The real issue with the bigger servers is NOT NA. NA can be and often is equal numbers(not equal organization), but rather the off hours coverage disparity. So all of this talk about breaking up this server, locking those servers, capping this and that.

It’s obvious that offhours on MOST servers is significantly smaller than NA. Why not simply lower the OFFHOURS caps. Sure there are servers that are offhours hotbeds, but they are the outliers, and are often the fly in the ointment. Halve the pop caps during offhours if need be. Allow for cheap/free transfers for offhours players to fill in some gaps on other servers, and see what happens. It will spread those precious offhours players around more, and break certain server’s strangleholds on those timezones.

Completely agree. Higher queue times -> unhappy guilds -> natural transfers.

By bringing the zergs closer together, you’ll probably see glassy artillery classes stay further towards the back, dart in to get off a few bombs and then use abilities to escape out again. As it stands now these classes are at the front, trying to lob their AOEs into the enemy as much as they can. We want heavy classes to lead the line, and duke it out with other heavies, all the while protecting their glassy characters. If they do their job right then glass cannons should be hard to get to among the rest of the zerg. Overall I’d say being a glass AOE cannon would become riskier, but in my opinion this is the way it should be. As it stands, AOE classes have too much range to allow heavies to close the gap.

Not like it’s super hard to get into the opposing zerg’s backline now. Not to mention that once you’re through that long distance AoE you don’t take any damage at all. This whole kerfuffle is much ado about nothing.

No. GW2 was advertised as a game geared equally towards hardcore players and casual players. Lots of my WvW guildmates are casual players and will go play something else for a few months, then return and enjoy WvW for a while, rinse repeat. This would not be fair to them. And if you don’t like playing against stacked servers, just transfer off of the stacked one you are most likely on (in order to be facing the others) and to a lower tier. The fights are better outside T1, the lag is less prevalent outside T1, and from what I’ve seen, the individual player skill is far better outside of T1.

I would agree, but to many posters here, BG is the devil incarnate. Part of their success is getting guilds to cover certain time zones. They would organize a hibernation until the server opened, then have the guild transfer in. This was a way to reduce it.

Personally, I don’t care if T-1 stays like it is. People blame BG for most of the population issues.

I am happy playing with my guild regardless of where. We will continue to havoc vs small/large servers, and continue to be steamrolled by blobs that we pull to other maps so our server can be successful.

But people need to stop using a single server as the reason why they can’t have fun or can’t be successful.

People alter their play to avoid being matched against BG, because BG is simply not fun to play against. They roll in giant zergballs nearly around the clock. They “roam” in groups of 8-10, and their “havoc” groups are 15+. When YB is matched with BG I play just long enough to max my tickets, and then go farm.

They have stockpiled players throughout their history, and have a vast playerbase that no other server can match. The other issue is the linking does not take into account timezones or coverage, and so very often you will get two or more strong NA servers linked against BG, which does absolutely NOTHING to counter BGs timezone advantages, and with map caps in place the NA advantage cannot be used decisively.

Long story short. BG is the last true T1 server. It has retained most of its identity through the ups and downs of the game. It’s inability to adapt to the new reality is causing other servers to flounder, and eventually that will catch up to BG.

Then perhaps you should have thought it through before you left. The most populous server in the game should stay locked until populations are, at least somewhat, balanced.

Lack of variety in roaming roles

- The most potent and most-common small-scale classes aside from cases where things end up totally overpowered tend to be ones which are absolutely useless in zerg fights. When was the last time you saw a commander ask for rangers, thieves, or mesmers (outside of a veil/portal/blur bot)? They’re basically useless in big-scale encounters, unfortunately by design.

To give a little bit to the mesmer class here.
I’ve never been turned away from an organized group for playing a support chrono.

Boon sharing resistance is still pretty important, especially since everyone’s boons end up corrupted most of the time anyway.

Not to mention dropping gravity wells deep on a group’s back line can flat out stop small organized groups from standing a chance against your larger, less organized zerg.

I haven’t been in T1 in the past few months, so maybe things have changed, but last I knew, since the changes to boon sharing the mesmer was no longer included as part of the meta which is why I excluded boonsharing from the list.

Upped usage of necromancers and condi reapers and the likes for mass corruption pushed them hard out of their prior purpose AFAIK.

There’s a degree of utility which any profession can bring – I frontlined a bursty power thief meant for target prioritization/pin sniping in most groups up until this last patch which removed my build from the game – but there does come a point when people need to understand “yeah, I’d generally be more useful on a guard if I were equally as good on it.”

The mesmer has the ability to make some pretty big moves in highly organized groups, but historically so have thieves and mesmers. Most open raids won’t kick by profession choice – it’s why they’re open raids – and always want you playing your best, whatever profession that is. That doesn’t mean they aren’t secretly hoping for more of what’s on the top-end of useful.

Afaik it’s still reasonable to bring mesmers. Generally boons don’t last long enough that the change is going to screw anything over anyway.

Not that I’m on a T1 server, because frankly, I prefer my 20 man organized havoc groups over constantly running a blob.

Servers Forced To Fight Out Of Their Tiers

They each have their issues. Glicko was horrible at locking things in tight, and would not allow movement for months after movement was warranted. 1-up-1-down can be gamed so easily as to make it near worthless.

As long as we have rotating links tiers are meaningless. All that is left is to game it to get the fights you want, and hope other servers don’t game the system better than you do. That being said, the game mode is better than it was prior to linking. There are fights happening. You no longer roam around not seeing anyone all day/night, and there is generally a queue or two every evening.

Agreed. The real way to deal with this “issue” is to take accounts that haven’t been playing in WvW in like two months and mark them as “needing server” before rolling out some new WvW patch that brings a boatload of these accounts back into WvW. This way they must choose a new non-full server to play WvW on.

The disparity between a server’s actual population and their WvW active, regularly playing population is what drives these moments.

This has been going on for a very long time as well. People park an account, go off to play whatever new FotM game is out, and know they can come back to play GW2 at any time on a server that is dominating. I fully endorse Chaba’s means to solving the issue. Once they retire for, let’s say 6 months, they enter a pool of accounts that are no longer tied to any server. Prior to logging back in they must choose a new (open) server.

The best way to fix the uncompetitive problem with BG is to either lower map caps, delete BG and allow limited servers, or delete all servers.

Which would you choose?

You all realize with the next xpac there will be a lot of returning WvW players. Players who quit BG and will return back to BG boosting their population even more. Of course Anet could force inactive accounts onto servers that lack population.

I would simply quit allowing BG to game the system. Do not reopen BG until they have been T2 or lower for months, and then make really sure that’s their true population before reopening their server.

Once the new content hits the queues will disappear. Everyone will be out and about in PvE-land. That will last for a month or two, and then maybe populations will go back up to what they normally would be.

Besides maybe if the WvW population on the overstacked server(s) sit in queue for long enough they’ll destack.

I don’t think they should allow private “invite only” squads in wvw. Granted that does penalize guilds who want to do GvG activities, but I think they should already have their own game mode at this point since its called “Guild Wars.” Either way, I don’t think wvw should allow private tags, or the ability to kick people who want to join it.

Then guilds will run without a squad, like we did before we even had squads. Your argument is pointless as you cant stop this. Anet have themselves drawn the line at hiding the tag when using the squad function, but they wont dictate how people play.

True you cant stop a group of people from grouping together and following one another in private parties, but at least this change to squads, would show that anet is taking a stance on it.

Currently it’s ridiculous when you get a squad that is 32/50 “TS” only and you have a ton of people not in squad or balanced parties following along, that aren’t allowed in. They become easy targets and help to rez enemy downed players because they have no party support.

Then go find a PUGmander that has no squad requirements. Squads go closed for a variety of reasons.
>Some commanders/guilds do not want to run 50/50, and blob around.
>Some commanders/guilds prefer to only fight “comped” rather than catch as catch can.
>There are many other reasons, but the point is that ANet cannot and will not try to force guilds/commanders to include everyone.

Cant afford to switch servers – don’t think this is an effective answer to the problem.

I think Anet should get involved cuz its not just bad manners, its abusive and exclusionary and actually making it so players cant play in wvw squads for hours/days on end.

I have many reasons for not being able to join TS (not just that I am deaf.) as do many others.

TS is not noted as a requirement to play in squad in wvw, and playing in squad is advertised content for which I paid.

I am not just talking about TS requirement either.

I have heard from players of players in TS abusing people and ganging up on them. I have heard people in TS making fun of players and excluding them just because they don’t like them.

I don’t care if people don’t like me. They won’t like me whether I am in squad or out. Its whether exclusionary practices are being used to bully players and ruin their game experience and more importantly, preclude them from content. This is something Anet needs to look into.

I have seen people in squad type to exclude people from squad. They do this because the people who wish to join are already in TS, so they type it instead. And the people cant get in, and they are excluded because people in squad simply don’t like them. That makes no sense and its bullying. You don’t have to like the people in squad. It hurts the squad/server/players/all when people are booted/not invited for no legitimate reason except to be mean.

I have seen people say and lol about this: Give me gold and we will let u in squad. This behavior should not be tolerated.

I have heard from many people who left squads or TS because of abuse of players.

I’m sorry, but I think bullying behavior should not be condoned by anyone, and it is within Anet’s ability and arguably their duty to prevent player abuse when the community can no longer police itself.

This is a narrow issue/situation that should be curbed by everyone, not defended.

I understand where you are coming from in part, but your tone simply screams, “Wah people won’t play with me! ANet you better make them be nicer!” It’s not bullying to have certain requirements to be met in order to join a group. No one can MAKE me let you join my squad.

Do you think you can make ANet “bully” me into allowing you to join my squad? See what I did there. Are you going to demand ANet allow you to join any raid group you want, because raids are content you paid for?

It is NOT bullying to not want to associate with someone. It IS bullying to try to force your way into somewhere you either A. Don’t fulfill the requirements for, or B. Refuse to accomodate their requests.

BG may or may not be skilled in NA prime, but I can’t imagine they don’t know how to PPT.

The score definitely supports both PPT and coverage. They are winning every single hour without any competition. Not sure what ANets plan is other than allowing T1 to continue as a crap-hole few want to play in. The long term version of this is a lot of players quitting because few like to continually fight completely outnumbered all hours of the day.

Their population levels are high enough and their coverage is good enough that they can leave a constant core of scouts at every WP every hour of the day. It takes 5x the effort to flip any of their objectives because little is left undefended.

BG has been doing it for a long time. They know that scouts, callouts, and massive siege-mongering deters people from attacking their T3 stuff. YB used to be the siege masters, but BG has reeled YB in, and passed them by miles. BG has people dedicated to scouting towers, let alone keeps. Back that up by roaming map zergs, and yeah, no one wants to be there.

Right now there are no unlinked servers that can come close to BG. BG’s overall coverage is the best of all servers by a large margin.

You link a heavy NA with a heavy SEA and you might match it, but that would mean one of Mag, YB, or FA linked with JQ or DB. See the issue? Two host servers linked together, MIGHT match BG coverage.

As it stands T2 is a battle of tankage to not go back up to T1. No one wants to play that game anymore except BG.

They obviously need to allocate more resources to WvW. It’s like that reset where they admitted not allocating enough servers to WvW, and it delayed reset for several hours.

I care not a whit that they released a new PvE map. Did I play the new map? Absolutely, but come on. They don’t mind stopping reset for a PvE patch, but can’t fix these lag issues?

There was a patch before the NA reset.
This patch introduced the issue in Siren’s Landing.
So of course the problem was gonna get fixed asap no matter what. It was hindering players from doing things in the new map.

Would it be a good move to keep a map broken just to appease the 3 NA servers that even have queues on reset?

Then shouldn’t you criticize anet that made a patch that suppose to fix issue but break the game further?

Why are you criticizing the players for complaining?

Why does it have to be one or the other? It is anet’s fault for not properly testing their update before they released it and it would have been just as bad for them to leave a brand new map broken for longer than it needed to.

They should have tested the new content better, and released it on a Monday morning at 3am or something so that the few players at that time of day could report on the problems in a map, thereby allowing for the most populous WvW night of the week to go on unfazed.

I wondered if whatever was going on in the new zone might have migrated over to WvW. There were times I would be right next to our tag, then all of a sudden(no pulls or anything) I was at least 1200 units away. It was far worse than the old threeways at Hills between JQ, BG, and SoR.

Surely this is some kind of wonky issue that arose with the patch, and not some new feature we are going to have to deal with for months or years right?

This has been happening to me also, but in all game types, i had to just log out tonight since it was unplayable, however all my other online games the ping is perfect. The last 1-2 weeks ill be on all day with normal ping of 50-70. then around 7pm cst i get a spike of 2k or more with a good 30second delay, sometimes i even crash. Then at around 10cst it goes back to normal. I drive my guild so this is very frustrating not being able to anymore. The first few times I assumed it was just the normal WvW lag but even then my ping is usually fine just with low FPS, left WvW and did pvp, still high ping, then to pve, still high.

Most of us had a ping drop after 5 minutes to around 80-150, but the lag continued. It was unplayable, so I hope they fix whatever issue is happening atm. It seems they haven’t yet fixed the forum lag though so…..

So reset night, excitement is in the air, and then we log into green BL to a ping of 2500. 22 people in squad and everyone was worried about DC for the first 5 minutes of reset.

So we sit there in spawn til it looks like it might be better, but then skills are delayed, going through portals take 2 seconds, and everyone rubberbands.

I played through the glory days of T1, where mapzerg threeways were the norm, and have never experienced anything like this. Even dropping down to best performance didn’t help. Something has to be done by ANet to rectify this situation. Our entire guild left the BL less than an hour into reset over this, and that never happens.

Do people still roam?

the real problem is there is barely full and there is full full full like BG which anet dont care about. Server transfer is one way ticket, they let ppl in but they dont let ppl out.

This is the big issue. Full servers can struggle to fill one BL, but the REALLY full server can fill three BLs. The biggest issue is that ANet continues to periodically re-open BG for transfers. The other “full” servers are struggling with coverage, but cannot recruit coverage because they are full. If this situation continues you may as well pencil BG in as the eternal champion of the game.

Instead, BG was opened and a group of guilds moved on. Look at the T1 matchup results last week, and you’ll see that it is a blowout, with no other server able to match the coverage that BG has as a result of those guilds moving on. Now, ask yourself how that server as FULL is the same as HOD as FULL. And, many of the questions that I’ve listed become logical followups from thinking about that.

Does HoD have 4 map’s queued during NA?
Does HoD have 2 map’s queued during PST?
Does HoD have 1 map queued during OCX?

No, neither of the times??? Well, then you do not have the population BG has. In fact, no world has the population BG has. This imbalance is going to cause harm and the Dev’s are unaware there’s even an issue. So if you’re looking for clarity, it’s likely to not appear any time soon.

At this point at any time that BG is even remotely threatened they are re-opened for transfer. BG has stockpiled so many guilds that it is the last true T1 server (if you go by the old description of T1 servers). It is bad for the game to have a crowned king, which is what ANet demonstrates everytime they re-open BG for transfer.

There is ALWAYS going to be a problem with rewards set on a fixed timer. Either it’s “too generous” and people afk for extra rewards, or it’s stupidly unfair, and you get threads like these. In general, players are gonna appreciate when it’s more towards the former than the latter, but really guys. Why is there even a timer in the first place?

Make reward track points and pip gain like the WXP system: you get them INSTANTLY. A few reward track points every time you gain WXP based on what you’re doing, increased by EXP boosters as it works currently, and also a new bar that tracks “pip points”. Get enough and you get a pip, with bonus points based on outnumbered, WvW rank, etc. Boom, you’re REWARDED FOR ACTIVELY PARTICIPATING and get nothing for afking.

IMHO without reward track points and pip progress being instant like WXP, there’s always going to be this issue of the timer being too lenient or too harsh.

At the bare minimum, reward track progress should be based on raw WXP gain (like the PVP reward tracks do with rank points) instead of this degrees-of-seperation participation garbage. That would literally solve all the problems: rewards would be based on active play, and you won’t get penalized because you had to wait out RI on a camp or run halfway across the map to find something to kill/capture.

Agree with this. I saw my T2 tick down into T1 territory from waiting on the circle to pop(on a monument). The guards didn’t help me at all, and the drop gained steam the longer I sat there. This decay timer stays this way there will be nothing but camp flippers and zergs. Nothing else is worth the time.

Edit: Once I got into the T3-T6 range the decay timer never seemed to be an issue. It was just during T1 and T2 that I felt any pressure at all.

Truly you guys should read the posts here.. at least a couple of them. Since this new PIP system the populations have exploded. Queues are not uncommon and frankly splitting it all back up again would open the door to more of these people that want to come in but decide not to a lot of prime time because of the queues.

It’s NOT like it was before the linking.

NA T1 server here, and except for reset there is generally 1 BL plus EBG queued through the rest of the days, and generally that BL queue is less than 10. This whole queue thing you speak of isn’t a problem on YB, and I imagine it’s really not that much of a problem outside of BG.

ANet has allowed players to vote on permanency of linking, and if I remember right it was a pretty heavy majority that wanted linking to continue. Those of you that want to blow the system up are most likely sitting on servers that might have one or two major WvW guilds during NA. What about servers that have no major WvW guilds left? How fun would WvW be for them?

You are on YB and saying there are no queues? No idea why you’d say that because I know otherwise by experience and lately…

I just left YB, you, sir, must not be playing in NA prime time or many other times where there is no room on any BL for any players – queues are huge.

You’re on a host server. Host servers are not the ones who have no name, no presence and no help when one makes most callouts.

I’ve been on YB the last two years, and yes during prime time. If you are playing NA prime, outside of reset there will be a queue on EBG, and one other, with the other being less than 20, and usually around 10. The fact that you are calling me a liar exposes the fact that you will support your agenda regardless of truths and lies.

There nothing wrong with a given class excelling in a certain area such as roaming and nothing wrong with that ability to roam being tied to superior mobility. This “bring them back down to everyone elses level” meme is just code speak to normalizing all classes so they play the same. It leads to sterile type gameplay.

Ok, well, they excel at roaming so well that less players are roaming on other classes, it gets even cheesier when they start to run in packs. There’s a reason the roaming scene has been dying off, why players feel the need to run in packs or zergs these days. roaming isn’t fun especially against thieves.

There is a very large grain of truth to this. There is a much smaller variety of roaming classes now than used to be. It’s primarily thieves, mesmers, and rangers. Not that there are not other classes in good numbers, but primarily it seems to be those three I run into more than others. It could very well be that these classes aren’t part of GREN for zerging, and so these players develop more sneaky skills.

If they break links, are people going to come back in here to complain about how about their low server populations and how links destroyed their servers?, even though they were well on that way at the time of links. Because if they break links not one person should come in here to complain about populations again.

They were ghost towns PRIOR to linking. That’s why linking was placed in the game. The linked servers will not “rebuild” as someone alluded to earlier. If they were going to rebuild it would have happened. In NA there has always been heavy migration to the top. That will continue until there are servers that have ZERO WvW presence. “Last player left turn out the lights.”

Look, I have maxed crafting in every profession. I don’t mind crafting at all. What I find asinine is that I have to craft to get a WvW reward. I’ve never played a game that had rewards based on PvP/RvR gameplay that encompass a PvE aspect to acquire.

In WvW make the reward gain based entirely on WvW play. Do raiders need to WvW/PvP/craft to gain their loot? Do players that do FotM have to WvW/PvP/craft to attain their rewards? So why should WvW players need to craft/PvE to attain theirs?

Truly you guys should read the posts here.. at least a couple of them. Since this new PIP system the populations have exploded. Queues are not uncommon and frankly splitting it all back up again would open the door to more of these people that want to come in but decide not to a lot of prime time because of the queues.

It’s NOT like it was before the linking.

NA T1 server here, and except for reset there is generally 1 BL plus EBG queued through the rest of the days, and generally that BL queue is less than 10. This whole queue thing you speak of isn’t a problem on YB, and I imagine it’s really not that much of a problem outside of BG.

ANet has allowed players to vote on permanency of linking, and if I remember right it was a pretty heavy majority that wanted linking to continue. Those of you that want to blow the system up are most likely sitting on servers that might have one or two major WvW guilds during NA. What about servers that have no major WvW guilds left? How fun would WvW be for them?

Seriously, I don’t like thieves either but go play one.
Excellent ones are op,
All the rest get deleted,
There are so many bad thieves I could make a montage of me killing them with my hammer rev while solo roaming and even 1vX.

I’m a bad Daredevil, yet I have a better K/D ratio in one on ones than I should.(not a bad player, but as far as thief goes….yeah) I’ve found P/P thief is low skill deadly.

P/P one unload can turn the tide, and spamming unloads can win a fight before it really begins.

I’m not really specced to run away, and yet I can break off a fight far easier with my Daredevil than I can with other classes.

Once you spend a bit of time on thief to learn the tricks they really aren’t that hard to play(P/P), and you realize you are going to kill certain classes far easier than others. Then you start to pick out fights you are going to win(most), or be able to run away from(almost all), and enjoy being a thief.

Get Rid Of Grandmaster Marks

Make the marks able to be sold on the TP. PvEers can make a little money, non-crafters don’t have to craft, economy remains stable.

Unfair Tournament Ticket for new players

The veteran got thousands of ticket in the past three WvW Tournaments. They can rush for the new rewards faster than anybody. It is pretty unfair to the new WvW players. My suggestion is anet should launch another three WvW tournament for us. I will be awsome.

I love WvW. I just feel discouraged because it takes 20-30 hours a week to hit cap, and I just can’t hit the cap weekly. I think just from a general life perspective it’s ludicrous to have that extreme of a time requirement.

It’s impossible to hit without playing this one game mode 4+ hours a day. This shouldn’t be the case, because it seriously impacts a person’s health, and isn’t good for people with jobs, and an active life.

An MMO is already a time commitment, why make it a literal second job?

Okay, it’s all good here. Listen. You. Will. Get. It. Eventually.

I seriously doubt I’ll get the back, or armor in a “reasonable” amount of time, and I do put in the time, and max out tickets every week, but I will get it eventually. So who cares.

1. Fix the lag situation that has existed since launch.

2. Pop cap/map cap that flex with time of day to control bandwagons and/or severe outnumbered situations.

3. QoL: Invisible commander tag for guilds that want to more easily run as a guild.

4. If I were allowed a fourth it would be to cap condi stacks. anything more than 20 stacks seems a bit stupid.

Yeah, this is about what I was expecting, and you’re right. I’ve actually never even left the Defend Shaemoor instance in the human tutorial. That’s how I’ve gotten 25k achievement points and 5 legendary weapons and a legendary back piece. #Geniuses

Gonna be honest with you here. I feel the exact same way about PvE, but there are many things that you have to do via PvE that makes QoL better in this game. So i grit my teeth, and do my bit of PvE to get whatever it is that I need/want. If you’ve gotten 5 legendary weapons than a gift of battle is no effort at all.

I think most ppl are putting there hopes and dreams on CU more then any thing.

Camelot Unchained – been killing WvW so hard since people first said it was going to kill WvW 4 years ago its approaching negative death.

Tbh I am not so sure that CU will be anything “more” than a different game than GW2. Seems to be moving at a snail’s pace. Slower than other AAA MMO’s I’ve followed.

In a boring condition loving match right now, thought I’d give pvp a try. That game mode is just as worse. I can see why people find both wvw and pvp boring/frustrating. Both game modes just are not fun.

I think its more than wvw they don’t give a crap about Nikki, the entire game is getting really awful.

You should seriously give BDO a try. its 10 bucks now so what have you got to lose? I’m actually in a guild in that game composed mostly of former GW2 wvw players. There’s actually alot of former GW2 players in that game. there’s another guild of them we see occasionally that came from gw2 who named themselves “The Condi Meta” just to mock the state of wvw here.

Gave BDO a try when it launched. Did not like it even a little bit. Might try Crowfall when it launches, and hopefully CU when(if) it launches. GW2 WvW isn’t without hope, but it certainly is in decline.

I kind of think that it should be mandatory for every single server to have an ANet employee playing WvW for them at least 10 hours a week.

Thread will likely be locked as a “match-up” thread, but yeah the matches are bonkers this week. Anet really needs to pay a person per server to play the game, and report back what’s really happening. The manipulation we are seeing on both Anet’s part and the player’s parts are not helping this game mode at all.

I just want them to turn Divinities Reach into an Urban battlefield with different sections that can be captured and sieged. Fight in the streets, lots of chokes and sneaky areas.

This was probably one of the more fun resets i’ve experienced on mag in a long time. it is very refreshing to run with a smaller guild and not deal with a blob w/ a qq pin snipe.

Except now the other servers have to deal with Magblobs all the time. I miss Mag during the time when PYRO and kitten were the main Mag guilds, at least then no one ran more than 25-ish.
