We had to find out about the total Hero Point count required and acquisition method from Colin on the 6th page of a player created post, why wasn’t this mentioned with the revenant+elite specs blog post earlier is beyond my comprehension.

Pretty clearly because they knew there would be a negative reaction.

That’s my point, there wouldn’t be a negative reaction if they had disclosed all the information pertinent to obtaining the new elite specs all at once, because given all the information we have received now the process doesn’t sound bad, and in fact it fulfills ANet’s commitment to provide multiple means of acquisition of nearly everything while still encouraging people to not stick to one game mode.

Remember that masteries are account wide, and you will ever have to grind for it once, so you won’t have to start from scratch everytime you want to get an elite spec on an alt, and it’s new content so you won’t get bored anytime soon.

I disagree with some of your premise here. Yes, the mastery is account wide, but it’s still 16 million xp or whatever. PvE is not fun for long periods of time(to me). PvE is boring for a large segment of players. Now I would still get through the content eventually, but that eventually would probably be a significant amount of time.

The way this works out is that if I want to play elite specs it would be far more reasonable to grind it out in PvE rather than to grind WvW ranks in EotM. Grinding ranks in EotM takes far more time than doing it in real WvW. EXCEPT, I expect large numbers of the HoT hero challenges to be locked behind masteries.

Have fun getting the masteries maxed out to reach map completion to get those HP’s lol. I do believe its 300 level ups after 80 per mastery? Or was it closer to 600?

Someone was saying 16 million-ish xp. That’s the equivalent of leveling up 800 times from level 80.

So…..get the elite specs?

That’s the core of the complaint, having the elite specs gated behind expansion content. This means we’ll have to play new expansion content with the same ‘ol characters we’ve played for the past 3 years. Likely have to do masteries in order to unlock some hero challenges.

It’s just boring and disappointing to have to play these same ‘ol characters in the new expansion, and have to repeat it over and over and over and over until you’ve done it for all your characters and unlocked their elite specs. All this just so we could play the new elite specs in the new expansion content both in PvE & WvW.

If you don’t understand this, then I’ve got nothing further to say to you. I wish Colin would come back and talk with the playerbase more so players don’t have to tear each other apart on behalf of Anet. It’s clear some are ok with it, some aren’t. No sense letting players kill each other over it because nobody’s going to change anybody’s minds here.

I understand it, it’s just ridiculous that people thought that they were just gonna get their elite specs with no work.

No one was expecting no work, but the amount needed seems high to some, especially to those who have a number of alts.

That’s the life one chooses when they decide to have alts, IMO alts are suppose to be expensive, and time consuming. I would be really rich if it wasn’t for my alts, ( seriously, I made my first legendary for an alt).
Thb, the amount of work is not that high, for what you need, could get done in a few hours.

See the PvE players keep saying, “You can get it done in a few hours.”, but the truth is no one knows how long it will take. What if 30 of the 40 Hero Challenges you need are xp gated behind masteries?

“Hey, want these 5 challenges? Okay master ley line gliding.” 16 million xp later you can go get those 5 challenges. “Hey here’s 7 more challenges, but you have to master super mario mushroom jumping first.” Okay there goes another giant time block. “Ahhhh learn to understand the mysterious language of C’thulu and gain access to 10 more hero challenges.” Get what I’m saying?

Well if it’s 170 points to unlock the trait lines I can live with that. As long as I don’t have to buy weapon skins as well to get the traits unlocked.

A pewpew ranger in WvW is useless but a druid won’t be. 170 points is the minimum required to even bother logging a ranger in to WvW to get more points by doing WvW. 170 points is the starter level to not being useless.

I grinded out those 170 points in Tyra and didn’t enjoy one second of it. I did it only because that is what was datamined. I doubt more then 10 hp in the new maps will be available without masteries.

Already confirmed to be 400 hero points. A character who has done everything in Tyria, should have around 200+ points. Then you can get 10 per hero challenge in the Magumma. So you’ll need to do at least 20-40 hero challenges in Magumma to get your elite spec.

As I read it it will take 400 for the entire unlock, which will be traits and cosmetics. It is entirely reasonable that we could unlock the entire trait system with the 170, and then spend the other 230 on cosmetic items.

So basically I have more than one of every class, and don’t want to do WvW. So does this mean I’m going to have to grind through the entire HoT storyline like a dozen times? If so, I’m at a loss as to how to not make that feel like 100% grinding after the first few runs through…

It would be faster to grind them out in HoT than try to pick up the levels fast enough in WvW. I’m close to pure WvW, and I’m still feeling forced into PvE to get my elites in a reasonable time frame, but it is what it is atm.

Nah, that would be pretty dumb.

What’s the problem anyway with today’s announcement? Is not like you have to do 400 challenges. HoT area challenges are 10 points each and half of the track are runes/sigil/weapon skin anyway. I just treat this as lvling up for the expansion.

Leaving WvW out of the equation completely for a second.

How many of those 40 HoT HPs are locked behind xp gated masteries? Maybe we can get 10 of them at first? 20? 30? No way will they give all 40 on easy to get to areas.

So lets say we have to get to five that require high end gliding mastery. They say that requires 16 million XP. That’s the equivalent of levelling to 80 what 800-ish times?

My plan, and I hope there are no new announcements that stymie my plans, is to go ahead and get my Scrapper and Reaper traits first, and maybe some distant time in the future go ahead and fill out the cosmetic stuff. How I’m going to get Revenant off the ground I just really don’t know.

Honestly… if you can’t spend 2 hours getting the hero challenges unlocked then you don’t really have enough time to play MMO’s. You should consider a different hobby. The MAIN form of progression in this expansion is elite specs and masteries. Why should you just be able to fully complete the main portion of the expansion instantly upon downloading it?

Because most of the expansion means zero to me. I don’t particularly care for the PvE in this game, and WvW, while watered down compared to how it was 3 years ago is much more meaningful to me.

Yes they introduced a system to unlock elites in WvW, but if it is how it reads then it will take far, FAR longer to unlock a single elite spec in WvW than all of them in PvE. If they allowed us to use the hundreds of rank points going unused then I would be good with everything, but as it stands WvW players are sitting far behind the curve.

If I have to grind it out in PvE to have the elites in a reasonable time I will, however I don’t have to be happy about it, and neither does anyone else.

At this point I am cautiously hoping that retroactive rank points can be used, but not optimistic. Honestly, I will probably spend offraid time grinding in EotM, however being red most of the time could hamper that signigicantly.

Gotta do some PvE to get the guild halls so maybe grab some PvE HP here and there. Dunno. Kinda disillusioned by the whole thing personally.

I don’t think so. SI has won multiple weeks in a row. Why are we still playing against them then?

Well atm any match you get OTHER than the one you are currently in you will either steamroll or get steamrolled.

The populations are so stratified right now that the chances for new, entertaining matches are slim. Hopefully enough players come back with HoT that there will be some shuffling, but I’m not counting on it too much.

To those of you asking if it will be retrospective, the answer is clearly no.

In the interest of fairness to PvE players, we didn’t want to allow any WvW players who may have been stockpiling liquid world experience to instantly rank up a bunch of times and immediately begin unlocking the new expansion hero challenges the moment the expansion released. To that end, we’re making the following changes to liquid world experience.

Retrospective rewards would create the exact same instant hero challenge unlock scenario as stockpiled Liquid WxP. As they have specifically avoided that scenario by getting rid of liquid WxP, it seems highly unlikely (to the point of being pretty much guaranteed IMO) that they won’t award retrospective proofs for the same reason.

[edit]

IMO, the best chance of getting some quick proofs would be to use up any Liquid WxP the night before the xpac hits, leave the bouncy level-up chests unopened, log out and hope for the best when you log int post-release and open them.

Kinda wondering about those of us who are totally maxed on WvW skills with 400-500 rank points leftover. Doesn’t seem that it would be fair to allow PvE players to stockpile HP, and then take away the WvW equivalent.

Edit: went back a re-read the ANet announcement, and it could be taken two different ways.

Since there are already so many old world HPs unlocked it seems that they will be retroactive, and it also seems that perhaps the old WvW ranks will be retroactive.

Taken another way it could be that only new ranks earned after HoT launches would be used to unlock these hero scrolls.

I’m happy that WvW players will be able to unlock the elites without grinding HP in the world, but hoping that old ranks can be used.

YB is full, and has been since the “full” metric came into play, but we rarely run full maps. Saturday night there were no map queues at 7:30 pm CST, and I think one flashed full for an hour or two later on.

When we first came into T1 we were running 4 full maps for a few weeks, but the last 3-4 weeks we will fill two, and occasionally 3 maps during NA prime outside of Friday night(generally EB and home BL).

It’s a far cry from when I was on BG 2 years ago. Then the weekend was a queue-fest, and even during the week activity was pretty high. Guess the population really has shrunk as much as people have been saying.

Just glad I didn’t spend the money on hot.
Same old Anet, making changes that the player base doesn’t want.
Please hire at least one employee that actually plays WvW on a regular bases to be our voice within the company.

I am glad you didn’t as well. I would hate to see you enjoying the new Elite specs. You seem to confuse a very very small subsection, of complaining vocal minority, with the actual player base.

The problem though, it that most posters seem to prefer being angry over the option of being logical. What 500 posters (that is a high estimate of how many posters have complained) hatefully demand they think they want, and what the game as a whole and the other 3.5 million players who bought NA and EU accounts need, are not the same.

True, but it’s the sample they have. Decisions are often made from smaller sample sizes than this. Extrapolation from smaller sample sizes often deviate from the norm, but not by as much as you might think. There are a few players white-knighting this change, but far, far more complaining. Some are complaining more vociferously than others, but all in all the take-away anyone rational would gather from the response is that the change is a large negative for the WvW community.

Servers should die. Alliances should replace them and Guilds should be able to declare their allegiance per season/quarter/whatrver. You should only be allowed to rep one guild for wvw per season unless you quit the guild entirely. This would resolve issues and make it so anyone could play with their guild.

Or, or players could join WvW guilds on the server they reside, and have fun that way. Of course optionally they could all pay to move to the server that this cross-server guild decides on.

Everything is an exaggeration. Wvw has nodes for farming as well as materials that drop plus you can salvage and use laurels there as well. Only thing from your small list is the elite spec that will “force” you into pve land.

Haven’t played alot of WvW have you? Seriously the mat nodes in any WvW map are few and far between, especially for anything useful. Laurels? Yeah sure, How many laurels does it take for an ascended zerker GS? I can and do get most of my mats through WvW bags, but that is completely hit and miss.

Now perhaps I misspoke a bit. Sure I could get “nearly” everything I needed through WvW. It might take a month or so to grind the items needed for a night or two of WvW, but hey happy tradeoff there.

The plan was/is to unlock Reaper, Scrapper, Beserker, Druid, and perhaps Chronomancer.

I personally feel that Core Guardian brings more to the table than Dragonhunter.
Don’t play thief much(at all).
I also think that the core Ele is a bit better setup for what I like to do with an ele than Tempest.

It all depends on the unlock mechanism though. I have the 170HP to unlock a Reaper and Scrapper. Sitting at around 145HP for the Beserker. Poor old Druid sitting at ~90HP, so I don’t know if that grind will be worth it. Then the Chrono, my poor little WvW-only Mesmer has a whopping 45HP.

It’s ok to breathe buddy, it’s only feedback.

It’s just the hypocrisy and the double standards being tossed around… It’s a pet pevee if you will.

It is a pain in the kitten to deal with game-modes you rather have nothing to do with, for me, those game modes include anything remotely related to Player vs. Player combat, I just have no interest in fighting other players.

But, Anet has forced us to do it if we want certain things… And clearly hasn’t back down from this stance. So if that is the case, Why should WvW’ers get special treatment?

The ONLY thing I can think of that any PvE player has to enter WvW for is the Gift of Battle, and that only if you wanted to make a legendary. And it’s only 500 marks, which you could earn in a few days easily in the PvE-centric EotM. WvW players have to enter PvE-land for virtually EVERYTHING. Now with the new legendaries the PvP/WvW items will be tradeable so PvE players never ever have to enter WvW/PvP.

Want mats for food and oils? PvE-land
Want gold for upgrades? PvE-land
Enough mats to make ascended to keep up with the Joneses? PvE-land
Now; Want to unlock elite spec? PvE-land, and for long periods of time.

If players wanna “lvl” their characters via 5k tomes, fine by me, but don’t demand everything. Elite specs should not be easy to unlock.

I for one would not wanna see every “n00b” unlocking the elite spec of his class in 5 seconds…

First you don’t wanna “grind” for exotic armor, then you don’t wanna “grind” for Hero Points, then…

I’m sorry you can’t have it all from the moment you logged in. This is not an FPS game. It’s extremely casual friendly as it is already, don’t ridicule it…

So how bout those “noobs” that WvW the vast majority of their playtime? How bout those “noobs” with well over 4,100 hours in the game that have 15 character slots filled with 80s. HP are fundamentally PvE. There are very few available on WvW maps, and tbh I’ve spent the last 5 days grinding HP, and it’s mind numbing.

A quest I’m fine with. An event I’m fine with. Letting us use WvW rank points to substitute for HP I’m fine with. Grinding weeks to unlock elite specs on the 5 characters I want to continue with….not really fine with it.

If you’ve done enough WvW to warrant an insta-built character, you should have thousands of skill points.

Give me a break. My oldest character with full world completion has 200 HP. There are only a little over 200 HP total achievable. Characters that I build purely to WvW with over the last 9 months have 10% or less total map completion, and have 30-50 banked HP each. Based on datamined numbers over on the HoT forum they are talking about 170 HP needed to get your elite spec up and running.

Simply not enough time in the day for me to unlock the 5 elite specs I want to play in WvW. Would take about 3 weeks game time to do so, and that means 3 weeks of PvE, not 3 weeks of WvW.

Well I spend very little time at the mystic forge, but i do have around 8 characters that I play pretty much purely in WvW, and yeah a few of them will have enough, but the newer ones(that I actually play on the most) won’t be anywhere close.

People need to calm down, its not that hard. I have one of each class with 214 hero points, it took me like 2 weeks to get every class like that. While you’re all on the forums complaining you could easily spend the next 2 weeks preparing instead. Or you can spend the next 2 weeks complaining and have to do it at launch.

Simple question for you to answer. Are you a WvW player? Sure if all you do is PvE you will have all your HPs no problem, but most WvW players won’t. Especially if they have alts that they play with any kind of consistency. Now if they allowed WvW players to use rank points similar to how they allow HP we would be fine with it, but atm rank points are useless for most WvW players(already maxed everything out), and as soon as they devalue the WvW skills they will be even more useless.

I do less than that due to WvW obligations, and ya know PvE burnout after a certain amount of time there. Not to say I’ll ever get a legendary, because I won’t, but a ton of players that have many more hours in this game than I do won’t be able to finish this in “3 months easy”. There will be pure PvE players that will get it in 3 months, but that’s the same as every game. Some players enjoy massive grinds and some don’t.

Low pop servers are already about done, so maybe this once again caters to the T1 servers, and not to any one else. Whatever anet has made it clear that they do not really care for the wvw game mode. I think it’s not fair to take words out of context. I don’t think they were talking about server performance. They might have been talking about the routine and WvW has more or less been running on the same schedule (golem weeks excluded). Also, I really haven’t been lagging or skill lagged in anywhere besides EB— that map DOES seem problematic.

On the other hand, stability HAS been nerfed, so maybe they should reconsider the wording.

I think you are right about what he was talking about, but this change will undue significant amounts of the stability he is touting. Saturday afternoon is, if anything, worse than Saturday night. This is really going to be a challenge to get guilds in during NA prime as many many folks will just jump in during the afternoon, and not leave.

This smells alot like population molding on ANet’s part. Bear with me here conspiracy theory incoming.

Anet sees T1 guilds, and after an exodus of GvG guilds leaving T2, T2 guilds staying put. This runs contrary to what they thought would happen with the locking of servers, and their desire for guilds to move down to populate the lower tiers. Anet sees that their plan is not working, and decides they need to help it along. Some /s wunderkind /s on ANet’s staff decides to try to make a play to get ANet upper management to notice them. They propose moving reset day to a day that would, at best, inconvenience a ton of WvW players. ANet’s upper management, without any better idea of their own, embrace this person’s idea, and congratulate everyone on a job well done. WvW community flips their collective lids, and ANet is /s SHOCKED /s that their wonderful idea is scorned. So in a panic move they make it worse by making WvW reset occur on a Saturday afternoon.

Ugh, so for the past two days I’ve gone back to PvE world trying to bank some HPs on the 5 characters I intend to unlock elite spec on. 3 of the 5 have less than 20% map completion.

I went ahead and changed my original plan for my warrior, and went back to the human warrior I started on, because after unlocking the first 20 on my Asura I couldn’t anymore. At least the Human has ~140 banked.

Then decided to work my engineer a bit to get some on him. My Norn engineer has ~180, but went to an Asura engineer 4 months ago that I prefer. Got around 25 more HP on that one before my eyes started weeping tears of blood(figurative not literal). Seriously considering playing Norn Scrapper even though I really hate the way he looks just so I can stop hunting HP on the Asura.

Necro is close to set as he was an older character with ~160 HP banked so I’ll worry about him later.

Debated between Charr Ranger and Sylvari Ranger that I haven’t touched in over 9 months. Charr has ~35, Sylvari has ~90, guess I shelve the Charr.

Looked at my mesmers. Charr sitting on ~110, Asura sitting on ~40. Hate the Charr, love the Asura, but now it’s down to how much torture I want to endure, and I think for a Chronomancer the effort is too high.

Now I’m down to 4 elites I can conceptualize unlocking. I just obviously don’t spend enough time in PvE-land to make the numbers work for me, and honestly I’m pretty unwilling to avoid WvW for long enough to unlock the ones I want to play.

Is there any plan for alts with this elite spec thing? Surely they don’t really expect people to unlock anywhere from 100-170 HPs for each class they play?

This reminds me so much of some self-important, new-to-middle-management person thinking they came up with a brilliant idea at work that they manufacture reasons to implement it so they can impress the boss.

Reset is and always has been Friday 8pm CST. People plan around it, guilds schedule for it, and communities prep for it. It’s been the one thing that has continued to inspire excitement in a game mode many have thought was going downhill for a significant length of time. Reset on a Friday is, in large part, responsible for WvW players continuing to put in longer hours on Saturday into Sunday.

This decision will, in effect, invalidate half the weekend. Even changing the reset to noon CST on Saturday is still going to invalidate half the weekend, and will still push WvW players away.

How about this John, “Due to the overwhelming response to our announcement of the reset time change we have decided to put the change on hold until we can gather more data. Reset will return to Fridays as usual on Friday, October 30th. This allows us one Saturday reset to check our metrics, and to decide if Saturday reset is still something we want to follow through with.”

Well that the thing about GW2 they want you to play all game types at least on some level. Most ppl who wvw have at one point at least pve (in the early days) its some of the newer players who simply want to wvw and never went to pve but are missing out on gold items etc.. and now classes that are something you need to run quest to get. If you need the new classes so badly i bet your guild leadership will help get them because some of the elite spec will be worth having in wvw for guild groups.

That’s some flawed logic, since when has Anet forced PvE players into WvW or SPvP ? They even made it so they don’t need WvW for map completion because the care bears cried so hard. A PvE player can get everything they need for Legendary gear and weapons, Ascended, and pretty much anything worth while without ever stepping foot into WvW or SPvP.

When they start making some real rewards such as Legendary armor WvW or SPvP exclusive then you comments will be valid.

If the pve player wants to pvp or wvw yes as there is no open pvp in GW2.

Pvp of any type only real reward is beating another player beyond that your simply asking for more pve in your pvp.

Argument is fallacious. The “real” reward in PvE then should, by your measure, be beating the encounter. Does anyone believe that if a PvE encounter garnered no loot , or progressed your toon in some way that anyone would do it? Loot, rewards, assets, progression, these are not PvE specific.

If you fear that the karma-friday become a karma-saturday, then it’s up to you real world versus world players to deny such request.
Defend structures, crash your zerg into the opposite karmatrain, hunt them until they log off or fight back.

I think you misunderstand the lack of care that occurs at the end of a match when the score is not close. Now at least no one will feel they are wasting gold on upgrades. There is still siege that will disappear because of reset.

Friday is already a joke UNTIL reset on NA servers. Now Friday will be like Thursday in that it will be a scramble for the 3rd server to not drop too much Glicko as the other two take the day off, and Saturday, ALL day will be a joke until 8pm CST. So THE day they have most of their WvW activity for the week becomes a big fat waste of time.

Brilliant move ANet, the genius behind your masterplan to make WvW players disappear is the height of wonder.

AH HA !!

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/its-the-final-countdown/

“Our journey is nearly over—very soon, you will be gliding through the jungle canopy, battling to level 100 in fractals, building a guild hall with your friends, overcoming challenges in the jungle to unlock your elite specialization, competing with your friends and guildmates to get to the top of our new minigame adventure leaderboards”

Well there you have it folks. Looks like the elite specs are going to be unlocked via “challenges” in the new map.

This is what i always wanted! Although, they could mean new Hero challenges, lol. But i hope it’s another type of challenge.

“Unlocked” is the key word. We “unlock” item collection achievements. We still have to collect all of the individual items.

ANet may have jumped the shark here with me. I have 5 of my 15 level 80s that I want to unlock elite specs. Some have plenty of HPs(100+) as they were the ones that are “old” characters, but 3 of them have single-digit world unlock sitting on 30-40 HP banked. I will be terribly letdown should I have to spend days and days in the PvE-land unlocking HPs while my guild is raiding in WvW-land.

Wanna Bet?

Too many changes all at once. New WvW maps/reset changed to Saturdays, Halloween event, Entire new zone, and the biggies new classes/specs.

Too much to go wrong in too short a time-frame. I am cautiously optimistic that perhaps we will only lose 6-ish hours over the weekend.

Blah, no wonder the red names stay away.

Any single change results in mass protest.

Lack of change results in mass protest.

They can’t win.

And who’s fault is that?

They neglected WvW since launch, not us!
We’ve given them great ideas, but they implemented their own awful ideas instead.
Any red post will be met with much criticism now, even if it’s the best thing for WvW. We simply do not believe in Anet any more.

Ya know I have tried and tried to figure out this change. The whys of it. The are two things I can come up with.

One is that on Friday, October 23rd they want everyone to be in PvE doing Jungle work. Regardless of what people want to play they want your kitten in the jungle.

Two is that they know for a fact that there are going to HAVE to be hotfix after hotfix for super bugs that crop up from launch of the new borderland and the new zone, and by putting reset off a day they can concentrate on the jungle Friday and WvW on Saturday. This makes sense in that apparently the WvW available on Friday will be beta-ing the new desert borderland, and will have zero effect on anything.

If two is the reason then I would hope that a permanent change to Saturday reset would be unnecessary, but it looks like Saturday will be the new, permanent reset night.

ANet makes a fundamental change for a group of players that already feel abandoned and undervalued without any input from said group? Yeah, they get mad.

Let us use our rank points to buy the unlocks we need, and everything would be fine and dandy.

Just freaking launch HoT 3am on Wednesday or something. Give a couple days to patch this and that before FRIDAY reset. Patching the game on the busiest WvW day of the week is the height of stupidity anyway. Get your head out; I defend you to people, but jeez you make it hard to do so.

I was going to make a post about this. It seems a little out of line with what ANET claims to be their intentions. As a wvw player, a large number of my characters have 2% or less map completion on them. By making these elite specs cost 80-170 (250 for skins some are claiming) it forces any wvw player to devote a huge amount of time to pve grind these points. This isn’t something that I think is appropriate nor does it fit with the play how you want mindset anet tries to enforce (and typically does a good job at).

I shouldn’t be considering rerolling a class simply to have the hero points open to me to spend them on the elite spec.

Now how to solve it, one possibility is to reduce the number needed to unlock the spec aspect (not the skins); another is to reset hero points on release and allow those who have already spent points to redistribute them as they now wish with the new options.

The characters I play currently all have around 20% map completion. I “retired” my old characters for a variety of reasons(not deleted due to crafting levels). I took a fairly long break from WvW to bank 80ish HPs on the characters I do play so that I would satisfy the “65” number that they put out there at first. Farming another 100 or so HPs would be torture.

I’ll give you one right now. I don’t want to only do hero challenges. I want freedom to progress through a multitude of methods. Its a serious problem that anet should address.

Actually it isn’t. It’s only a problem for those that don’t want to do the work and play the game the way it’s being designed.

I don’t want to have to sell junk. I want it to just be converted into gold for me. That’s a serious problem, but I don’t expect ANet to do anything about it because that’s not how they designed the game.

Oh give me a break. Remember the wahwah about having to finish world completion on the WvW BLs? That was how the game was designed, and due to overwhelming griping by the PvE players it was changed. Remember the wahwah about not sharing WvW points? There have been lots of wahwahs about things in this game that were changed to appease players.

Really the only players this inconveniences are the WvW players, and that’s still a fairly large portion of their playerbase. Most of the characters I play have around 80-90 banked hero points. I have these due to taking a large break from the game mode I enjoy to play a game mode I dislike. Now I’m being told I might need 80 or 90 MORE HPs that I have to snag from a game mode that I still dislike to play for content I am paying for.

Give me a storyline quest that I have to go through. Make the HP needed to unlock 65, which is what was said would be the amount needed beforehand. Heck, let me “sacrifice” one of the level 80 engis(I have two of each class at level 80) that I leveled to make my remaining engi a scrapper. BUT don’t make me go farm HP on the 4 characters I want to unlock elite spec for in a boring manner.

uhm i do have more then 170 hero points on like every lv 80+ char i have ..coz u get them also from lvl ups . as u also get xp in wvw u wont need pve for that.

Have not noticed getting HPs from leveling past 80 anymore. Though I haven’t looked at my HPs since I maxed skills back when the change took place. Thought they discontinued the point/level when they made the change. I’ll have to take a look at my HP bank on my characters again. If this is still the case I’m a happy guy.

Forgotten voices - non prime players

in WvW

Posted by: Kaiser.9873

Kaiser.9873

Oh I agree with you Yuffi that the lower tiers are generally ignored, and even if vocal their thoughts aren’t lent as much credence due to pure numbers. Also as on most NA servers the trend is for more NA population than non-NA, and so the NA tends to be more heard than the non-NA. Even servers that dominate non-NA prime trend toward having more NA, just not more NA than the other servers they fight. Non-NA are most definitely appreciated by those that have them, and reviled by those that don’t, which is why the NA players are crying for more, and/or less of them.

I’m not sure the solution, as numbers tend to win out in most instances. I would kind of wonder though if ANet would introduce pure low cap BL tiers for players that enjoy that style of gameplay, and move the players that don’t to higher pop tiers for free would that solve some issues. If this kind a system were introduces you could have a tier with BL caps at 30 for instance. The players that enjoy low cap WvW would stay, and the others would get a free move to a higher cap tier.

There will be no pleasant solution to this problem. There is no win/win here. People don’t like compromise, because compromise means no one wins. At best we can hope for a solution that only makes everyone mildly irritated, or it will just be more of what we are dealing with now.

Okay so spent some more time over at the HoT forum, and yeah it’s all speculation at this point over there, but some numbers keep cropping up. They are 80 and 100. Some are still throwing out the 170 number, but surely that isn’t right. Right?

Will there ever be a fix for Nightcapping?

in WvW

Posted by: Kaiser.9873

Kaiser.9873

Night capping sucks but the only fix is for your server to recruit people/guilds from those other time zones to come play on your server. Pointing a big middle finger at everyone who doesn’t play when you do is not the answer.

If those players were more available for recruitment I would agree with you. Or in the case of full servers, able to be recruited.

So lemme get this straight. I intend to unlock elite specs on an engi, warrior, and necro, and quite possibly on my poor neglected Ranger. All for WvW, since that is pretty much all I do. BUT in their infinite wisdom I am going to be forced to go open world to garner hero points above and beyond the ones I have banked and waiting for me?

I took a week off of WvW already to get 60-80 banked hero points/character based on the 65 number they popped out earlier. Now we’re looking at 170? I ground through world completion on 2 characters already, and that was a horrendous experience for me. It’s not like there are an abundance of hero points available in WvW, and tracking down the open world ones take a ton of time that could be better spent in WvW.

Pretty much.

Only sPVP gets the full unlocks with out doing anything.

I really hate the current unlock system. The first system was better, skill point based and you got skill points every time you leveled past 80. That is how the system should be. Forcing players to go out and map on every character to get the spec (mind you, mapping outside of HoT content too…) is stupid. It takes away from other areas of the game and forces you to commit time to mindless boring tasks to collect points. And its not even time gated…..So, IMHO, there is no real reason for it to be this way.

Ugh if we got a hero point everytime we leveled past 80 I could deal, but exploring over and over with different characters seems like overkill to me. The characters I play the most with nowadays have for the most part under 10% world unlock(all doubles of original characters. 18 total and counting on the same account.) so I suppose it wouldn’t be terribly ugly to get them, just very time consuming.

New Legendaries need PvP & WvW, and it's ok.

This thread is so biased it hurts.

You don’t have to show ‘legendary’ effort at all to rank up in pvp or in wvw.

The opportunity to obtain a legendary should be based off of extreme demonstrations of skill at a minimum, which means not something from casual PvP or WvW.

I’d rather farm Teq for two years for a Hoard than step foot into a PvP arena for a Legendary, but that’s just me.

I come at this from the other side of the coin. I couldn’t stand to grind away at the PvE content to earn a legendary. I’ve done the world bosses a time or two, and it was mind numbing. Would much rather deal with the spontaneity of WvW everyday rather than the scripted aspects of PvE even semi-regularly.

(assuming ofc that the vets don’t wine to much that its no new content for years and scare them off)

I would say highly unlikely, though there is that chance.

The good news is that many veterans have been waiting for Shadow of the Mad King to return since the Ascent to Madness dungeon was so much fun! Blood & Madness was / is fun also. It just never felt like a true guild wars 2 Halloween with out Mad King Thorn not only joking us to death, but beating us to a pulp or tossing us off cliffs. So yeah, R E A L L Y excited about Shadow of Mad King and Ascent to Madness making a return.

As a WvW player dungeons are not something I do, but that dungeon was one that I did over and over again. It was super fun, and I am indeed looking forward to it.
