I am fairly happy with where stability is right now. I have a lot of stability put into my build and I still get knocked around a bit, which is probably where it should be.

I agree. Too much stab is almost as bad as too little. Where we are now melee has become viable again, but not like the hammertrains that existed before.

I am from a T8 server, and want to go back to T8. My reasoning is that I enjoy low population fights. I think it can also be a bit more strategic than “let’s blob over everyone and make it blob v blob”.

If you want low population fights try PvP, because WvW isn’t designed for nothing but that which happens in T8 brackets.

Blobbing is strategic, just not how you’d like it. I don’t think blobbing is healthy for the mode, however this is entirely a different issue and it wont be solved by reversing the process.

In the olden days you would still have X number of players, but instead of one blob there would be 4 different groups running around. Now those 4 groups of 15-20 voltron into a giant blob, and it isn’t as fun as it used to be.

I agree that low pop fights are better found in PvP as WvW is meant for larger clashes, but I do wish that the blobs would separate a bit more.

Personally I love the linking. I do wish that the linking would reset every week or month seeing as some matches are completely wonky. WvW has been more fun lately even though my server hasn’t been performing as well as we were before the linking.

It’s beyond time for a server merge. I get the idea that announcing server merges sheds a bad light on a company, BUT so does bad gameplay. Bad gameplay is something that is impossible to overcome, server merge is not.

Knock it down from 8 tiers to 4, or even three, and you will see activity on par with game launch.

exactly, i couldn’t agree more. The pvp community left because winning a wvw match is nothing to brag about.

how can we make it something to brag about ? there has to be another way to win.

Make PPK more valuable than siege humping. The largest amount of points should be gained by killing other players and without the use of siege.

This would promote blobbing even more. It would also make it so that no force would engage another unless they had superior numbers than that other force. We saw this the first time PPK was a thing.

At this point I don’t know if WvW can be saved as we knew it. The fun I find anymore is running with my guild, and fighting. Whether that’s open field, defense, or sieging; the fun is in the fighting, attacking, and defending. No one I play with even really cares too much about PPT anymore except as a way to draw fights.

not to be a stick in the mud, but doesn’t “after” april mean anytime?
and was wvw not suppose to be the priority after HoT? or did they say the shatterer was the priority after HoT, i can’t remember?
If april was projected to be the actual test, would they not have concrete plans in place for March that are actually mentioned?

Nah they keep saying WvW is the priority, but then insert PvE/eSportz item X,Y,or Z before it.

population imbalance (and emptiness of most maps most of the time) is what killed WvW, not the BL. The new BLs just had the problem, that to few people for the smaller old BL maps are much to few people for larger new maps.

The thing we urgently need in my view is map-capacity fits player-numbers, neither to much map such that WvW degenerates to a PvE(D)-race nor to few map such that you sit in queue when you want to play.

If their balance work solve this WvW-problem, WvW get a change to restart, if not all they do is useless.

Nope. It was indeed the new BL that put WvW into its current death spiral. Just look at the queued EB maps with totally empty BLs. Just look at the fact that WvW population fell like a rock, never to recover, after HoT came out — despite everyone promising people would flock back to WvW at release.

Hey I dislike the new map too, but we can’t put all of that on the map. Let’s remember when HoT released there was the new map, but you also had to grind elite spec, go play in Maguuma, and PvE your kitten off to grind your guild hall to regain what you lost when they botched that situation.

Granted the map contributed, but those other factors were, most likely, even greater contributors.

ANET is dying. They aren’t the same company that use to honor the player, now they are all about selling outfits, wings and other useless junk for gems.

WvW will never be good again because ANET has lost their soul. You can thank Mike O’Brien for that.

Was Mike part of ANet with GW1? I never played it, but have heard good things about it. If so perhaps it’s the publisher that’s the issue. Who knows, but it’s not the game now that it was 2 years ago that’s for sure.

Oasis event lag persists

It’s completely unacceptable that this event single handedly ruins the gameplay for everybody in the zone. It’s equally unacceptable to have this issue unfixed since HoT launched almost 4 months ago. Please disable this event until the lag issues are fixed. Either fix the extreme lag, or disable the event. Don’t just let something so broken run continuously and turn a blindeye on it.

Be a hero for once Anet, nobody will miss this event. I get that you folks spent a lot of time designing and developing it. And disabling it may seem like you’re admitting you did something wrong. But the lag is killing everybody’s enjoyment. It’s one of the top things cited when people talk about why they dislike desert borderlands and why they refuse to play on the new BL’s. Things like these are pushing people away.

Fix the lag, or disable the event in the meantime please.

1. Reward tracks similar to PvP.
2. Server merges (3-4 tiers instead of eight)
3. Enhance stab or rollback CC; either would be fine.
4. Alternating Alpine with Desert, or get rid of Desert altogether.
5. Lose the PvE garbage.

Some have suggested a cool down on stability removal. Say if you get a stack removed your immune from removal for 0.5 seconds. I think that could work.

Or just revert it to what it was before the whole “stacks of” issue cropped up. I like simple solutions to problems. Before stability reigned supreme, now CCs reign supreme. Old stability and new CCs should, for the most part, cancel each other out. And if they cancel each other out maybe we can get away from this pirate ship garbage.

They’ve shown they have the ability to separate skills between game modes (PvP, Pve)… This really needs to be done. The combat is just -not as fun- as it was 2 years ago. Skill groups are dead and now its all a boring blob numbers game.

Honestly if Anet reverted stability in WvW it would reduce the toxicity and lack of faith in these forums by 83%.

I’d say 83% might be a conservative estimate. And you are absolutely right that the stab nerf/rebalance killed skill groups. Pirate ship meta favors those with the most cannons.
Even though it took a lot of skill before to wipe a mapblob with a guild group it could be done. Guilds practiced this and many were very good at tackling larger, and sometimes, much larger groups.

Insert stab change: guild group heavy parties can’t disrupt like before, and are relegated to supporting the ranged / trying to fend off small charges by the blob’s heavies. Blob simply outputs too much CC/AoE for the guild group’s heavies to impact the fight in a meaningful way as they did before, as their stab is being ripped away too fast, permastun/immobilize/dead.

Too many players invested too much in their heavies for them to be relegated to buff/banner bots. The current meta, that ANet either overtly or covertly endorses with the decisions they have made, is not fun. It punishes aggression, and it encourages blobbing, which makes good fights hard to find and messy.

Going back to old BL maps is not practical

Anet must have spent a lot of effort devising and creating the new BL.
Asking them to go back to the old BL is taking a huge step back and wasting all the time and effort they put into designing the new one.
Do you think that’s sensible? Are you asking for something that is impractical?

Lets give them more support and fine-tune the new BL instead of asking them to go back to the old BL.

At this point i dislike the new map so much I would advocate making all borderlands into the EB map, and the current EB mapslot into a modified EotM map. That would be better than three desert(ed) borderlands, and a stuffed EBG.

It’s not just the map though. The map gets all the hate, but it’s the auto-upgrades, the PvE event, the increased PvE elements throughout the map, and the removal of guild upgrades that were earned prior to HoT. Add to that the forced PvE that all guilds must do to unlock any new upgrades, to gain any of the new ascended, and to make any of the new foods, and you have an angry, disenchanted player-base. A player base that just wants to be able to WvW.

I certainly hope so. Missed less than a handful of resets since launch on Fridays. Missed all but one since they moved to Saturdays. Of course they said they’d put orbs back in when they balanced those, and here we are.

Now I am being honest when I ask this. I am on my first character (level 50) and I was wondering…Whats the point of WvW? I mean it seems entertaining and I was having fun while playing it but I don’t see myself playing for long periods of hours without some actual goals besides “capture this just because you can say your the best server”.

And I am pretty sure that I am missing something or the actual point.

Well in the older days there was significant server pride on the line, but now with everyone changing servers looking for activity that has lessened.

If they buffed GS AA, and increased the pull range and reliability I would be great with power necro. As it is though the WvW meta doesn’t make GS Reaper feel very valuable.

I don’t want to defend a-net because i do agree that it takes to long and wvw is no longer bleeding players we are flat out pooring out players from wvw, but to be fair here, it is not the same devs that works on wvw that works on pve bosses. And if one area get their stuff done before wvw devs, they will ofc release it.

What you can ask your self though is why wvw is not done yet whilst shatterer is, maybe a-net need to put more people on the wvw team and preferably before also the top servers going empty in wvw.

The top servers are already shells of their old selves. 4 maps queued heavily to one map queued lightly. tin foil hat time Perhaps they are intentionally bleeding it like this so when all WvW is EotM-style they can say that it will be an improvement. By that time the only “WvW” players will be EotM regulars anyway.

Can We have SAND in WvW for Guild Upgrades?

They require SAND for wvw upgrades but don’t have SAND at all in wvw! The item should be ADDED or remove the requirements.

You mean RvR is dead becuse there no other rvr game type out there other then GW2 WvW and that not surprising becuse RvR never last all that long at high number in NA. Its just not a game type that has a long life becuse it going to burn ppl out becuse of the 24/7 game play.

daoc is a clear example that this kind of gameplay can live over 10 years with monthly subs if you do it properly.

That good at all but daoc never was that big and it needed that sub fee to keep going with its pop. At the same time daoc was in a different gaming time where rvr was a comply new thing and with out other pure pvp games out there it has no real composition for both game type and from other pvp like mmorpg games. Times are very different now something like daoc (the old one) would never make it becuse its way too much time investment to have the number of ppl to keep it going.

The truth of things is its worth a lot more money to keep these games going (mmorpg) you need a good size pop to make it worth making/keeping it running. RvR at least pure rvr games do not have that power any more (all though they never realy did in NA its just not a popular game type).

yes, it takes money so generate revenue to sustain the service is important. But can you explain why does Anet keep pouring money into sPvP game mode that’s clearly failing, instead of another game mode that has way more population? The streams are not watched by many, and meta and class balance are terrible. It seems they are sacrificing WvW development and trying to force a successful venture in esport in sPvP, but everyone can see they are failing.

They are locked into eSportzzzzzzz. Who knows why. Perhaps one of the devs has a nephew that likes it or something. They could have launched PvP a little more like WoW’s PvP, but they like the 5v5 style. It seems that they should have put that money and development time into a game mode that has/had 100X more participation(or more). I don’t care to watch or keep up with their PvP tournaments, but isn’t it the same two or three teams at the top every time anyway?

We don’t get anything, because none of the devs give a hoot about us. The “WvW” dev got pulled off of WvW to work on PvE junk. Whoever they have in that position now, if they really have anyone there, is likely a very junior dev with little to no power in the design process.

Their disregard for WvW is very evident.
Exhibit A: letting the PvP dev institute golem week. This was incredibly disruptive to WvW players, and went on far too long with major bugs the entire time.
Exhibit B: Going ahead and launching the desert BLs half-tested with all the problems the early testers mentioned still intact.
Exhibit C: Keeping the stab nerf even after giving every profession and their dogs major CC abilities.
Exhibit D: Never addressing population issues, core gameplay issues, exploits, and a myriad of other topics mentioned ever since WvW launched.

I haven’t played in over a month now except to get my daily login bag. I was a die hard WvW player, and they lost me. Now they have to do something to get me back, or I won’t be back. There’s too much in my daily life to keep me busy to login to a game where I, and players like me, are ignored.

Something like this might make me play again.

I’ve essentially quit for the last month. Logged on for about 3 minutes per day to get my daily login bag, and then right back out. Yesterday stayed on for an hour going Bl to BL looking for something to do. Couldn’t find anything then played EotM for about 30 minutes til I got bored again.

Of course if my server was facing total elimination then I very well might login to play long hours knowing that both JQ and BG would definitely be motivated to get rid of us. So yeah the idea has merit with bringing players like me back, but I wonder if the population has fallen too far.

At the end of the day it isn’t about free or subscription. It is about a company that takes this format of play more serious or puts it in the forefront. Right now with HoT it isn’t the case nor has it been previously. Their focus right or wrong is:

1. Raid content
2. eSports

You got that wrong, their focus is:

1. Gem store
2. Grind to facilitate players buying gems

I have never understood why a sub has to be $15/month with no gemstore, or no sub with a focus on gem store. I haven’t played a sub game where the price was different from $15/month.

Why not $5/month with some kind of gemstore? The gemstore would need to be toned down somewhat of course, but the $5 sub would allow lots of new content; all the while paying the bills, with the gemstore being the profit.

They can offer the finishers, boosters, some outfits/armor sets, and the mining tools, plus a few other little QoL goodies through the gemstore. This really wouldn’t impact gameplay at all, and still be attractive to many/most players.

Urgency requires competition or a threat of competition. Until CU and Crowfall start stealing gw2 players, there is absolutely no reason for anet to do anything about wvw.

I disagree. They are losing players in bucketloads; not to other games, but to sheer boredom. That, if anything, is even worse. It means players would literally rather sit around playing single player games than your game. It’s really pretty disgusting. Reminds me alot of what happened in WARhammer online.

It’s the whole overkill aspect of it all that has me sidelined for the time being.

It seems like kind of a tightrope situation. Most of the time that extra bit of toughness/vitality helps you survive, but then you lose a bit of the ability to quickly kill things. This is how it should be imo. Granted there are places where you are going to be challenged quite alot, but part of it is finding the sweet spot gear-wise.

I will echo what some have said about breakbars. Limit that kitten to champions.

It takes a lot to get just one of the banner your not going to see them that often and when you do you out right kill the person holding it making sure they do have another for some time. The problem atm is with chron who can double up the banners effect (though i must say chron and its effect has destroyed a lot of balancing in wvw and i guess spvp).

I dunno I’ve been seeing quite a few lately in T1.

EotM has had a few more fights recently than some nights in regular WvW. Other nights reg WvW is really active. Of course this is NA T1. I do like that when I go into EotM to farm proofs there will occasionally be real fights, but unfortunately it’s still mostly 1-pushing uplevels.

Well, to be fair, people were crying and complaining about needing a badge sink before HoT. Several people had well over 100k badges with nothing to spend it on after farming Edge of the Mist for so long. Now, it’s a lot harder to get and a significant badge sink was introduced. Par for the course for most of HoT to be honest.

That’s the problem. “After farming Edge of the Mist for so long.” Anet just automatically assumes everyone is a Platinum+ rank with 100K extra badges sitting around waiting to be used.

As bad is winding up GD on someone ~40%, and by the time it hits they already dead thereby wasting the CD. Way too slow animation imo. Would rather have CD reduced on a faster hitting GD as have zero CD on the slower hitter.

So anything that has AoE skills gets where they’re going faster than the other players that might be playing their kitten off?

Contribution yes; purely based on kills? not so much.

I wouldn’t even mind the size, its the veriticality and layers that bug me. I don’t want to feel like I’m going through a kitten jumping puzzle and maze that takes me forever to run somewhere just to find its a dead-end or the edge of a cliff.

This is the core of the issue. Relatively straight line distances wouldn’t be bad on this border, but half the time the opposing group is close enough to range, but melee would fall to their deaths.

Suggestion for free transfers

Given that server mergers seem to be off the table for a variety of reasons, and megaserver WvW is unappealing to many WvW purists what about a compromise?

Create 9 new worlds. These would be for WvW only, and population counts this way would be far more accurate. When not in WvW you revert to your PvE server. Allow players to choose spots on the new worlds, but within narrow parameters. No super-stacking of timezones allowed. Guilds can transfer en masse, but only accounts that have been active in the last month or two.

Now you have three tiers. Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Theoretically the populations would be similar allowing for unprecedented movement up and down tiers. PvE servers are preserved for those that would rather sit on dead servers, or wait in queues for things. Reset Glicko completely(or move away from it), and allow a natural progression where these new worlds fall into their own spots.

WvW rewards has always been a tricky thing to sort out. Many are afraid to have it improved to much for fear of people focusing on farming and taking up spots on the map. At the same time wvw has been a giant gold sink if you want to stay competitive, gear tiers matter unlike pvp, food/utilities some of which can be very expensive especially since its constantly used, siege consumption etc etc.

I have been a supporter of wvw reward tracks but it should only have rewards that are specifically usable for wvw, like siege, commonly used food, ascended mats/craft mats commonly used, etc. And it should only be progressed when earning wxp and only in wvw, not eotm. This would help make wvw more rewarding for players and help reduce gold costs while also making it less common to have to farm pve maps, because not everyone is into that. While also deterring farming.

They could just match the PvP reward tracks. That way players could pick the rewards in either version of the game.

What I’m tired of is the PvP tournament/gamemode love with little attention paid to WvW. We constantly hear about $200,000 prize money or whatever that are funneled to what? Three or four teams total? They could’ve pushed GvG as their eSport, and had far more players, matches, and seasons.

well it is easy to make high damage add the aoe spam to the recipe, and everyone needs to get defensive stats…. not that hard to notice.

Not to mention with the, now old, stability change the frontline has a terrible time getting through the mess. It’s no wonder most frontliners are running Nomads.

I’d rather go back to the days of hammer trains than deal with this continued pirate ship playstyle.

Of course last night in TD I hit a small lag spike while in an updraft, and I flew over the map. Ended up in an odd place above everything. Nothing really up there, but I was able to find kitten to fall through to get back to the playable area.

Who cares about the “scarcity” of one of the only new armor sets in the kitten expansion! You can’t even sell them, so their value as a skin only matters to the people who want that skin for its own sake.

It’s absolutely insane that after the effort you have to go to in upgrading your guild hall, you still have to pay through the nose to get the armor (and I’m sure it’ll be a similar price per weapon for every weapon in the set too, so that’ll be fun).

This is my issue. The absolute cost of upgrading the guild hall should factor into the cost of the armor more. In my opinion the armor should be priced based on contributions to the guild for all the effort and expense/time that goes into getting the guild hall to that level. They either need to add reward tracks, or add jungle mats to Heavy bags, and dust, sparks, and oil to champ bags.

These are some nice changes. The zerg has enough built in advantages, and the rally mechanic really favored them in almost every clash, but with a 1:1 death to rally ratio that advantage is mitigated.

PPK is awesome, but let’s hope it doesn’t make groups that think they might lose avoid fighting. That was one of the disappointments we saw when it was tried out the first time.

Okay so merge the low end servers. Then all is good again, no? Bottom line is we have way too many servers for the number of players we have.

This isn’t a sustainable model and reflects poorly on the health of the game to stockholders/investors and to potential prospective players.

WvW is in the state it is in for a variety of reasons. Those reasons will continue to perpetuate until a lot of core issues are resolved, many of which are an extension of the current server vs server model through population stacking and time-zone imbalances.

Alrighty then. Instead of merging/closing servers, let’s do something to make the “Big WvW Overhaul” a real deal. Make 9 new NA worlds. These worlds are only for WvW purposes. You want to PvE you can continue to PvE on YB/JQ/BG/FA/SoS/whatever server you belong to, but when you go to WvW you go to an assigned WvW world.

No picking and choosing worlds to get the best matchup that week like “alliances” would promote. Each world has X number of slots per timezone based on some (hopefully) equitable formula that makes all worlds have similar timezone numbers to each other. Current servers are divided up into these worlds based on activity, and that’s your WarWorld.

Best of the megaserver idea, but still retains “server loyalty” to an extent. Everyone’s assigned a world so it’s not really different than what we have now except there are more players. Pretty quickly people will learn their new “world-mates” tendencies and personalities. Shared TS is still a very real thing since many of the guilds will be seeing familiar faces.

This wouldn’t be closing servers, but could be sold as a very positive new feature of the game.
