I actually like Trahearne, I don’t like the excuse the writers gave him. Even if it’s not a dragon threatening the city, Lion’s Arch is a location of tactical importance to the Pact. Letting it fall would cripple the allied forces. Trahearne shouldn’t be that stupid.

There was good reason to believe a dragon was involved somehow any way, and we know the Priory at least knew about this (they followed all the releases and got into Scarlets lair with paintings of dragons etc). It’s just another NPC being dumb in this story.

That’s the thing.

A: NOBODY knew where Scarlet’s armies were. He can’t order an attack on an enemy he can’t find.
B: If they marched into LA and set up defenses, it’d be treated as a MILITARY OCCUPATION. Captains council and citizens would both flip out and possibly riot/attack the Pact.
C: Even if they saved city (with damage from falling airships and molten/toxic attacks) the Citizens could turn it to a “The Pact made us a target!” in their grief.
D: Captain’s council never asked for help. You can’t march into a city if they don’t ask you to help them out. It’d also set a mindset for other cities of "Oh, the Pact may march in without warning or care, and basically occupy a city to ‘defend’ it without any permission from the leaders.

Ehh, ok, even if no amount of defenses would save LA, it dosen’t mean that ther should be none, right?
And the ideology that PACT was established to fight of dragons so they have no reason to do ANYTHING other than that, is like saying that POLICE was established to fight of crimes and enforce law so they have no reason to help citizens that are in danger, thats one BIG BS right ther.
AND FFS!!! we ARE a 2nd in command in PACT, why anyone from PACT didn’t even bothered to help us, lets forget the fact that we didnt even bothered to ask for asistance from soldiers that are under us, and that was an all out invasion to both.

Ther is a limit to lack of sense in a story, and gw2 went overboard with it

I’m saying even if there was defenses in place (which I agree, the captain’s council is dumb to deny), LA would be ruined from debris.
ALSO. IF the Pact marched into LA and set up camp, the Captains council and citizens would see it as an unwanted military occupation. They never asked for help.
If we asked Trahearne for help, and he asked the council, and the majority vote of council was “Nope, we need no help as of this moment, thanks for concern!” he wouldn’t march forces up there. Local Order forces helped us plenty.

@Kalavier: It’s been 2 weeks. Isn’t that long enough to clean Orr?

Sure, if we are stupid and take gameplay as lore and have a zerg run through Orr.

snip

A: Yeah, because doing nothing for the past two years seem okay for the Pact to not partake in defending LA in the first place.
B: That didn’t stop them from helping the people of LA when they were being butt rump the the Risen invaders.
C: Only further proving that Trahearne’s cleansing does jack crap to Orr and/or how the Living Story isn’t so Living. You would think that in two years, they would at least clear some part by now.

Its funny how they split the Pact and Order with the story seem so “convenient” for the writer to twist their own needs. The Pact would have dealt with Scarlet long ago if they were given a chance to but alas! Everyone have to play idiot just so some Mary Sue Sylvari can invade LA.

A: Pact has been rebuilding and dealing with Orr, as well as planning their next campaign.
B: You mean the orders, before the Pact was formed, and done as a response to the immediate invasion of Claw Island? That’s entirely different then arriving before the attack and announcing they are here to safeguard them when the city never asked for it.

Also, it could very well be twisted by the grieving citizens (Gravity exists, destroyed airships would still rain wreckage on LA, and the toxic or Molten forces causing damage) into “Scarlet attacked us because the Pact was here! THEY MADE US A TARGET!”
C: IT. IS. A. NATION+. OF. RISEN. + Dragon champions still alive and active which could turn fallen into Risen. Among other aspects. The Cleansing of Orr ritual was stated as I recall that it’d take a long time to fully heal Orr. Yeah, they may have cleaned out a section (lorewise, not gameplay wise) by now. But it’s still a nation they are combating. Many artifacts held enough corruption to spawn Risen. They have to be very careful in their cleanup operations.

The Pact explicitly (IIRC) was stated to be rebuilding as of LS. If other times when she caused trouble by the time they mobilized, her trouble had been dealt with, why both heading up. She was (for all they knew) a troublemaker cause issues locally. Not somebody trying to wake a dragon.

WHY would the Pact march up there before the assault on LA? Hm? Aetherblades? oh wait, adventurers and lionguard dealt with that quickly. Molten alliance stuff? They dealt with that too. (And the orders were involved) Toxic? Orders helped out again.

Again, if nobody knew where she disappeared to, how the kitten would the Pact stop her? or Kill her?

Also, what if we sent Trahearne a letter personally asking for reinforcements, then he talked to the Captains council only to get told the overall thing was “Oh, we don’t believe she will attack us. We don’t need your help.” He marches forces in, he’s defying the council openly.

Its funny how they split the Pact and Order with the story seem so “convenient” for the writer to twist their own needs. The Pact would have dealt with Scarlet long ago if they were given a chance to but alas! Everyone have to play idiot just so some Mary Sue Sylvari can invade LA.

I’m sure the Pact would have dealt with Scarlet if they were given a chance to, and we’d see more threads about how Trahearne was a Mary Sue Glory Hog for the Pact getting involved.

The less the Pact is involved in anything other than steadily making Orr safer for all of Tyria? The better.

Traehearne never stole glory from the player. If you did personal story and paid attention you would see that.

He hasn’t responded, so maybe he swallowed his pride and admitted he was wrong. Or maybe he ignored the post. Either way, it’s there for the other people who would also claim that “Oh, GW2 has no ties whatsoever to the first game.” He was just the mouthpiece I used to get all this info.

And that’s just off of memory anyways. I’m sure there’s more that I can’t remember.

Fort Koga for one. The Maguuma PVP map. It’s in Brisbane. In brisbane is also several named ghosts referring to GW1 events/people.

The tombstones in Granite Citadel are reference to GW1 henchmen/NPCS.

In Rurikton there are four npcs descended from GW1 Ascalon henchmen. Anton is in Gendarren Fields. Lots, and lots of Gw1 references. Even the broken statue of Dwayna in Lornar’s pass is where a statue of dwayna was in GW1.

It seems to me that the pact had a few hundred “commanders” fighting this battle. I’m not sure why you want an organization that is dedicating to fighting dragons defending a bunch of pirates.

Did I miss the part where the captain’s council formally requested help from the pact?

This. If the Pact had moved into LA (as I said on another topic) to “protect them” the Captains council and citizens would be up in arms about a military occupation.

Considering even DURING the Marionette, the answer to “Where is this army threatening LA?” was “Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm……….. we don’t know…………” The pact forces can’t be deployed from Orr (which is still a major thing, LOTS of Risen even if their numbers are thinning from not getting as many as fast) when the enemy isn’t even located.

And before Marionette, by the time Pact forces may be ready to go the reply would be “Oh wait, it’s dealt with. Scarlet and her forces disappeared…” What’s the point mobilizing the Pact for a long travel to LA?

But yes, the captains council never asked for help before the attack, so the Pact had no reason to march to LA.

shut the gates on escaping people, when did that happen? did kiel tell you that?

During escape, roughly the time when NPCs start evacuating, Evon Gnashblade is among the Dolyaks. At getting to the gate, he ORDERS Shud aside telling her he HAS to get his merchandise through.

She replies with “Hurry it up, I got civilians to get through before I can shut down the gate.”

His action then is to go “That’s what you are worried about? I got your back.” runs through after his Dolyaks, and shuts off the gate in Shud’s face and several citizens, who are then forced to run for another exit from LA.

Also, we didn’t save millions. I seriously doubt LA has a population even close to a million.

the refugees of lions arch

Kalavier.1097

currently theyre in refugee camps near the bases of the orders – in my opinion we can relocate them to three places:

1) orr, providing that pact did SOMETHING in the past 1.5 years and cleared out some of the undead – it only needs citizens to help bring life back into the dead land

2) ebonhawke – the fortress is safe (relatively), away from the leftover miasma, there is a bank, crafting stations and trading post – there’s work as miners, shops can be re-established along with asura gates to divinities

3) southsun – the consortium would be happy for extra workhands

what are everyone else’s ideas?

1: Orr is a nation of Risen. Dragon champions are still active (See Tequatl). It’s not going to be safe for a long time

2: Ebonhawke is a full city. Where would they fit more people? True, they now own all of fields of ruin (The treaty gave Fields of Ruin to humanity), it’s not a super awesome safe place.

3: Southsun explicitly is dangerous.

Really, as Magnus said, if the Captains council can get connections reformed with the lionguard havens and trade restored, LA can be rebuilt. It’s only if it got attacked soon (or something else happening) that they’d be forced to abandon it. The refugees from LA will return to LA, sooner or later.

Just because the pact is for dragons, doesnt mean he can’t help others. Look at the vigil, made to fight dragons, protects everyone.

A: Redeploying the Pact forces is a big task. It’s not worth it to redeploy when the question “So where is this force threatening LA?” is answered with “Uhh…. ummmmm…. we don’t know….” Because NOBODY knew where Scarlet’s forces were between attacks.
B: Pact forces moving into LA to protect them would be answered as if it was a military occupation by the citizens and bulk of Captains council. So he couldn’t do that.
C: Orr is still VERY dangerous, with a few dragons active and a large number of Risen. Pact is busy with the cleanup.

The orders helped out a lot, and their forces nearby responded to the situation. The Pact is mostly in Orr, with some at Frostgorge sound area. They can’t quickly respond to something and if by the time they are ready to move they get a letter going “Oh wait, the Scarlet attacks are handled… she’s disappeared”…

It’s not cleaned up YET. It’s in process.

It’s not going to be an easy cleanup.

Pact is made to fight dragons. Scarlet is not a dragon. Wasting resources to march armies and airships all over to TRY to stop her is pointless. Her fleet of airships was hidden, so flying his airships all over does nothing to help.

Orr isn’t a vacation land, they have to try to clean up the risen presence and remaining dragons around Orr while rebuilding and planning their next campaign.

A: To ANYBODY saying air defenses would’ve saved LA, look around the city. A number of those chunks are the size of airships and you see the damage done.
B: Scarlet attacked in a manner NOBODY EXPECTED (leadership wise). A massive air attack by airships hasn’t been done before (toward ground targets). The Aetherblade airships flew above the clouds and dropped down right onto the city.
C: LA, as it is/was, has little natural defenses. It’s a hard city to reinforce (would be hard to build walls effectively with all the cliffs and water), and even if they had, the air bombardment and deployments would’ve ruined any hope of defense anyway.
D: The PACT was formed to FIGHT DRAGONS. The orders helped out a lot fighting Scarlet, but the pact forces were busy rebuilding, cleaning up Orr, and planning their next campaign. As Laranthir puts it, until the evidence that Scarlet was doing this kitten to stir a dragon came up, the Pact really didn’t get involved. Them charging off to fight Scarlet is out of their operations zone, and they have enough in Orr and planning another campaign to not warrent charging off trying to chase down the Aetherblade airships. Airships which I’ll note nobody knew where they were before the attack.

there is not even a hint of ascalon, droknar, hedge of denravi, temple of the ages (and no, the swamp isn’t ToA, the statues are not even the same and they are not on the same location) so unless you have even a shred of evidence they are still there, i take it with a grain of salt.

oh and the 250 years is a poor excuse, there are buildings of about 5000 years ago that still stand today IRL yet in GW2 nothing is left, a game only 250 years later.

she did nothing in the battle for LA or the extended version of battle for LA we currently play.

A: She’s 13.
B: She’s disabled and can’t walk much at all

WHY should she be in a major battleground where the enemy takes no prisoners and could disable her golem?

Yeah, and she already learned that the hard way when she blindly ran into Scarlet’s portal to the EotM and couldn’t go anywhere because Scruffy was broken and the parts she needed to repair him were near the Aetherblades who would love to kill her because that’s what they do.

+ the Miasma in Escape (Still there, but not as badly in Battle for LA)

And this time the lionguard and vigil are all over and neither group would let her close to Lion’s Arch.

She learned she can’t charge into battle or warzones in Edge of the Mists. She learned just how bad Scarlet was by talking to the Refugees. In future adventures, we hopefully will see more of her.

Now, I’ll admit they perhaps could’ve done an instance of the Lionguard, orders, B-iconics, and Captains council planning out the counter attack, and Taimi could’ve jumped in with Vorpp and figure out the teleporters and such… but that’s all outside of LA.

ummm… I’m not sure if some of you realize this, but the OP makes it clear that Scarlet’s goal was always the dragon. She also refers to him as Tyria’s new master. This is a strong indication she wants to wake him, not kill him. Any theory that states she wants to wake the dragon before killing it is just bone headed. Seriously, would you alert your target to the fact your trying to kill it? Regarding the statement that you will either fall to Mordy or fall to Nightmare – How? Especially when you consider only a minority have fallen to nightmare and only one has fallen to Mordy, how do you come to this conclusion?

Also, Mordy wasn’t content, he was asleep. He was asleep because he wasn’t given enough magic. It wasn’t until he receive the jolt in magic that he woke up. Your theory runs opposite of the facts.

So Malyck is a servant of Mordy? You say he has a dream that makes him a servant of Mordy? Really, got a link to evidence?

IF she wanted to kill him, that was early on when she was mostly free (and likely didn’t understand what the voice in her head was) As time went on, the plans would’ve shifted as the control became more and more secure. IE, “I’ll kill you!” turns to unplanned “I just gave you what you needed!”

Yeah, the evidence points to the disruption being a sudden blocking to cause a surge throughout the lines, which jolted Mordi awake.

Also, if Malyck was a servant of Mordi from the start, why did he act so similar to Sylvari from the tree?

What I don’t really understand is that if they’ve designed the knights around having 150 characters in a map…

Why don’t they institute “underflow” style maps for servers with low populations?

Or just abolish individual servers entirely? (Which would likely be bad for the overall community feel.)

Make it all one server and have overflows as necessary.

Yes, because that’d make a great press release. “Okay guys, we are getting rid of your server.”

“What? Why? We have very high rating on the list.”

“Oh, you don’t have as many people arrive for these specific events, regardless of time of day, what day it is, or other factors (Like guilds doing their missions, or commanders leading various runs in other areas of Tyria).”

Sure, I could believe it if say, a server was constantly failing things across the board for every style possible, but you REALLY have to ask yourself this question

“Is it truly a low population issue, or is it a LOW interest issue for our server?”

Also, you know, Anet has GUESTING ingame. You can easily guest to another server if yours isn’t beating the bosses or you need a specific achievement.

Regarding the ending to this story, Colin Johanson said that 1 in every 10,000 people had guessed it right.

And just about EVERYBODY guessed it was a dragon.

That puts the ratio of people a little higher than 1:10000….

Was he just trolling us? WTF.

EDIT: I just read his post regarding this… Apparently he didn’t mean “dragons” he was referring to people guessing it was Primordius… Nevertheless, dragons were the most obvious guess, and everybody guessed dragons. Still kinda feels like trolling.

Ok so her journal seemed to indicate that she wanted to destroy the “voice” that taunted her… but that “tyria’s master”crack seemed to indicate she was working for the voice… or maybe some of both.

So perhaps it started as a quest to defeat the dragon, but she was being twisted around until, in the end, she WAS serving him, totally subsumed in the end.

But she also left a note, on the back of the blade backpack plan, that said “Caithe, you will see, Tyria needs me,” or something like that.

So, I’m confused. Or maybe she was confused. Split personality, played like a puppet, or something else? Or maybe ANet’s trying to pull a fast one and make us realize that we stopped Scarlet from, in her lunacy, saving us from the Elder dragons, or something like that.

Simply put, it’s a case of she wanted freedom. She most likely at first WAS planning to destroy the voice, but as time went on she got more and more twisted and corrupted by it. When you face her in the control room, all of her former self is gone. You can see that by her being DEATHLY serious instead of joking, and how she talks about everybody bowing to a new master.

How can you win our hearts back ANet?

4 patches in 2 days means they are responding swiftly to bugs as they appear, instead of letting them sit there for a while.

As I said, there are ALWAYS some bugs that never appear until you release the product to the masses, those are the bugs that appear. IIRC, I heard the very first go through (or the first few) worked 100% fine, and then everybody swarmed online and things got buggy. That tells me it was a sheer volume thing, and not something that could’ve popped up in their private playtests.

And once those bugs appeared, they squashed them, SWIFTLY.

edit: Also, in order to fix the bug they must replicate it. IE, a story about something shaking on an airplane, and when the techs went to fix it they couldn’t. Why? Because they couldn’t produce the conditions that caused the shaking on the ground, and thus didn’t know WHAT needed tweaked.

Nope. She was seeking to cause a spike in the ley-lines, which woke the dragon and caused him to feed off the spike.

Yes, but why? How does waking a dragon tie to her journal/story? This is not very clear.

We have this quote:
“But I reject that call. I reject the notion that that I must choose the Dream or be lost to Nightmare. The forces that push us this way or that can be redirected. They can be set against one another to the detriment of both, and now I know how.”

But…wouldn’t raising a dragon have the opposite effect, if any?

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Kalavier.1097

Kalavier.1097

So, Marjory was hurt decently bad. She got knocked out, looked a little roughed up, looked dead.

Braham broke his leg. That’s it? Why? And by the way that whole part of the scene, I was just thinking about Peter Griffin clutching his knee, going “ssssstttt ahhhhhhh” for 45 seconds.

I get I’ll get flamed, probably, for this response, but honestly, I don’t understand why Marjory got so hurt and Braham basically didn’t even have his life threatened.

(Side note, during the cut scenes, did any of you think it was weird and immersion breaking how your character just stood there, still, staring in one direction or the other?)

Norn are far tougher. Some of the most powerful norn can take on entire charr warbands solo as of EOTN. They naturally are tougher and stronger then any human. Besides the whole “Marjory was closer” bit Norn simply can naturally ‘tank’ more damage in lore.

As for the last bit, I was more bugged about how Braham landed to the right and Marjory the left, when they were standing opposite of their landing locations. (IE, Marjory was standing to the right and got flung left, Braham to the left and flung right).

Lol, while I love the idea of a Norn being built like a freaking tank, we both know that isn’t realistic. Bones and flesh of Norn guardian versus Human Necromancer are essentially equal (especially considering that necromancers have super high health pool and guardians super low) in terms of the game mechanics, I really don’t think it makes as much sense as you’re implying.

Game mechanics make an Asura warrior equal to a Norn warrior. Realistically in the canon and lore, an Asura warrior is not only far weaker, but slower as well (They’d have to jog or run to keep up with a Norn walking/fast walking probably).

Norn are far larger, stronger, and tougher NATURALLY. More powerful Norn can solo entire charr warbands (EOTN) and very few(aka, super rare) humans actually can match a Norn or beat them in a straight fight.

It’s probably just a combination of different body structure/size and Marjory landing badly enough to hit her head (and according to Kasmeer, breaking a rib or two).
They both stayed behind in Lion’s Arch to help get the rest of the refugees to safety, so Rox’s medical skills must be really good. Braham was even able to walk around and fight with a broken leg!

Rangers are known survivalists. It’s not surprising she was able to do some field medic action to stabilize both. Most likely once they got off the airship lionguard medics did a bit more before we meet them again in the zone.

Poor Marjory, you’re not wearing enough clothes!

Come to think of it, with Kasmeer wearing nothing but aether and a smile, how is she getting through these fights?

Um, she was only naked for the Tower of Nightmares. It’s never implied she didn’t wear her typical outfit anywhere else.

I believe a mistake that several people have made here is directly comparing Human anatomy to Norn anatomy.
Humans and Norn are only superficially similar. By nature of their development, their skin (hide) is thicker, their muscle and Bone density higher. In short, their environment guided their development into 8 foot tall Mac Trucks.

The second assumption that people are making (which has been covered), is that with everything being equal, both individuals should take proportionate amount of damage.
This is simply not true. Sometimes people just get ‘lucky’ and are able to avoid the worst of the most horrific accidents.
In short, Braham ‘won’ the RNG lotto, Marjory lost.

9 foot trucks actually. Norn average at 9 feet, my female norn at max height is taller then a kodan ingame so she’s easily over 10 feet tall

Also, about the impacting, based on the location of them post striking, you could say Braham flew through the air and his leg caught on the railing, and that’s what broke it. Marjory meanwhile landed face-down or went all the way into the wall and crumpled.

Nowhere to Hide (Very Frustrating)

I tried it earlier, I did the “dodge to the left and run back” but the SECOND I got back to Scarlet (and I was very close), she instantly did the big orange circle attack.

It seems HARDER now then it was before.

With Jory NOT dying and if LA gets rebuilt, you’re essentially saying that the threat of the entire last year has had 0 consequence. You’re teaching people to not care about the living story. You HAVE to be brave enough to make significant changes everything can’t keep ending up all fine and dandy ><

They said LA would have permanent scarring. Stuff like the gate hub and those collapsed stone towers just can’t be fixed easily.

Also, saying “LA gets rebuilt that means Scarlet’s armies had no consequence/danger.” is just foolish IMO. It’s like saying “The risen attack that took Claw Island has no consequence because we took it back and the Lionguard rebuilt it.” Towns get conquered, towns get reclaimed at rebuilt. It happens all the time.

N
Also, I’m more interested in Taimi. After all, she is wanted under suspicion for aiding and abetting Scarlet.

When the heck did that happen, ever? I’ve been involved in all the LS elements with Taimi and that never was mentioned. It’s Heal-o-tron that’s wanted for that.

Scarlet was about to spill the beans and Braham tells her to shut it. I can no longer like Braham. Moron. I’m shocked Jory didn’t smack him and said “yes, give us free intel.”

Braham acted like his established character would act. Why do people hate him for that? He’s a simple man. Bad guy causes problems. Bad guy is right there, let’s smash the bad guy and be done with it.

He’s the person you send to smash/break stuff, not question enemies. At that point NOBODY in universe wanted her to live. Magnus’s letter was clear “Show no mercy to scarlet.” Hell, even the Quaggan lady in that one couple wished death on Scarlet.

If the player had a thing to stop Marjory (After her line, before the downed explosion thing), I’m fairly sure everybody else there would go “What the hell? WHY do you want to keep her alive? You’ve been there since the start and seen everything she’d directly or indirectly done, all the death and suffering. She deserves to die.”

As I’ve repeated myself to death, Scarlet is known to have voice controls on stuff. She’s known to have teleport/portal tech. Letting her go into a monologue could cause who knows WHAT to happen. Her teleport away, a mob of enemies teleport in, traps active, anything.

I honestly couldn’t care less about the characters in this living story. Rox and Braham are ok, but I’m not too keen on the forced romance. Don’t get me wrong, a well thought out and subtle romance is fantastic, but if you read the dialogue from the Living Story Kasmeer and Marjory could have just as easily been friends. The only difference is that there was sexual attraction, apparently? Even Caithe and Faolain had a more interesting relationship, due to their conflicting ideals.

Marjory and Kasmeer are less forced and intrusive then the Quaggan romance that started after the Tower of Nightmares. IE, where they meet in the camp and instantly go full force flirting.

My fear regarding future content and Mordremoth is that the story will continue to be exclusively about the Asura and Sylvari since it will take place in the old Maguuma Jungle which happen to be closest to them. It’s like Anet is making excuses to try and erase everything about GW1 in a fruitless effort to cultivate their so called ‘unique’ experience with this game.

Crossing my fingers that this won’t happen. :p Maybe we can revitalize the old Druids and ask them to help us in defeat Mordy? Maybe we’ll run into the mursaat? Pretty please? I know we will never again have the same caliber of writing that we did in GW1, that is very clear. But more emphasis on the original lore, creatures and the very land itself would be nice. Just something resembling anything at all related to GW would be fantastic.

Why would he be Asura and Sylvari only? That’s like saying “Oh, campaign against the Icebrood, Norn only.” Charr are heavily involved in the war against the Risen and Zhaitan’s forces aren’t even a threat to them ATM.

Gw2 has a lot of landmarks from GW1. The thing that excites me is the possibility of finding that old temple of Grenth, or the gift mysterious pool of water in the falls.

guys you forget the most important things: will be new dragon in new area or just added to sylwary/asura area??

Based on the cutscene, you are looking at the dragon awakened all the way in Magus Falls, the lush region at far far left of the map. The Ley-line goes through the Tharmuava reactor.

Killing of a character is such a cheap and cliché way to create artificial drama that I’m glad anet didn’t go down that path. Hate when stories do that just to be dark and gritty.

And having them all wake up and kiss isn’t cliché? It’s just as bad if not worse. It’s pandering at it’s finest. Also you know, rangers know their kitten concerning survival. Rox doing a bit of field medic work on Marjory is acceptable and fine.

Tired of hearing that Taimi is only 13 and therefore can’t be in the story. If that is the case, then why make her 13? She becomes less interesting the more she sits on the sidelines and does nothing. She has her golem which is supposed to protect her. Part of her character is not listening to adults. So we have 2 stories where she doesn’t listen, and now 2 where she does listen and sits outside. Which of those 4 stories were more interesting for her character?

Cliche/tropes are everywhere. A kiss for somebody you thought was dead is fine.

No, she CAN be in the story. On general adventures, that’s fine. A battlefield with patches of Miasma that downright kills even the most hardened soldiers? No. Her golem was built to help her move around, protecting her is a side thing in comparision.

When Braham heals and the ‘guild’ goes off to do stuff or explore, she’ll come along. When they are facing an enemy army which has in history disabled her golem, and will slaughter children, she’ll sit safely back. She’s smart enough to know that she wouldn’t be allowed in LA.

SHE CAN BE IN THE STORY. Realistically. Having her in the middle of the Escape of and battle of LA instances just makes zero sense realistically or storywise.

Exactly. So many things just kill characters for no point. Personal Story did it, but when they did it it was to show “Hey, this is a major war against undead legions. Not everybody makes it home.” And when it happened, it was well done.

Majory dying in the drill wouldn’t just been meh. Also the fact Rox is a ranger, and rangers naturally are survivors. They know medicine and field healing. Rox stabilizing Marjory makes perfect sense, especially if she wasn’t hurt as kittenhe looked.

•Taimi, I would have had her be a healthy little arsuran child up until Escape from Lion’s Arch. During that update I would have had her talk Braham into letting her come into the city to “study” the drill. When Braham turns his attention from her for one second, a piece of debris falls on her, crushing her legs. Braham’s guilt and Taimi having to learn to live with her condition would have been excellent character building opportunities.
•Jory and Kas, Jory getting knocked back and possibly killed while Kas runs in to avenge her was wonderful. However, I would have had Kas take a killing blow for the player character and Jory wake, permanently scarred, and call her name right as she is hit and killed.

This actually sounds amazing…

No, it sounds like a typical “look how grimdark we can be” gratuitous dramafest which young people routinely mistake for good writing. Makes me glad Anet’s writers are adults, not emo teenagers who are obsessed with misery and death.

Also you know, the fact Taimi is 13 years old. Braham would basically get smacked around HARD for letting her into the battlefield. When Logan stumbled across her at the Marionette, he instantly took her to LA and off the warzone. ALL of the people involved wouldn’t let her get close to LA because of the Miasma and the fact Scarlet’s people were slaughtering ANYBODY they could find.

Even if she wasn’t disabled and was perfectly healthy, her being in LA would be kittened. Moreos if her legs go crushed and she was forced to live with it.

Eh, there’s a necromancer in the party.

Run for the exit
More ominous necromantic chanting

“Now, you were saying something about an evil plan…?”

Yeah, besides the fact bringing spirits back from the dead to ask them questions is implied to be a high level, dangerous ritual. You see it happen in PS.

Also, about letting Scarlet live. Note Kiel and Magnus had zero intention of taking her alive. Throwing her in a lionguard jail cell would likely result in some ‘tragic accident’. Infact, just about the entire city refugees and Lionguard (alongside order members and such) just want her DEAD.

And from an out of character viewpoint, by that point she was fully enthralled by the dragon. “Tyria will serve a new master” and being deathly serious instead of joking.

Hell, in character it was obvious Scarlet was mostly gone. Her recordings and journal make note of the ‘voice/being’ in her head, and how she was fighting it because she wanted freedom and credit for her actions. Then she mentions bowing to a master?

edit: Hell, the female quaggan of the quaggan couple in Gendarran fields (from tower of nightmares update) wished DEATH on Scarlet, and cheers you for causing it to happen. If Scarlet hit the point of making Quaggan wish death on her, she’d never survive in jail without a tragic accident followed by an “Investigation that produced no leads/results.”

Didn’t toxic krait appear side by side with other krait communities without incident when they were first introduced?

Also worth nothing, were any of those things communicated in the game?

Not clearly ingame, but word of God from Anet on these forums stated that was the reason for those two groups staying with Scarlet thus far, and why they didn’t simply take what they had received on just ran back to their home factions.

Of course, that appearing side by side can also be an element of gameplay, as pretty much bar the obelisk shards and the three witches, toxic krait were purely in one region.

Killing Scarlet was absolutely wrong. She should have stood trial for her crimes and so much more could of been explained. Suppose she was too dangerous to be kept alive by ArenaNet’s standards.

Yeah, only with her history of voice commands, teleportation, and other feats, letting her monologue may summon in five enraged twisted nightmares. Or one of those assault knights.

Or teleported her OUT of danger. Or started a self destruct.

Besides, Braham letting her explain herself would just fly in the face of HIS established character. What has been his approach? “We know the bad guy is there, let’s storm in, and just smash him.”

Besides, the trial would be over before it began, that’s assuming mob justice didn’t get her and you had the angry refugees (and/or Taimi) murder her in the jail cell or on route.

To be honest, I think personally my biggest problem is Braham – acting as ANet proxy – saying “we don’t want to know more”, as in, “we don’t have all the answers to give you so go away please”. I was like, the hell I don’t! I’ve been waiting for Scarlet to spill the beans for ages, but then Leroy Marjory and Ham-Boy here just go RAAAAARGH and I’m standing there fiddling with my gear. Great.

Given Scarlet’s history with voice commands, and teleporting out of danger, not giving herself time to monologue is the most reasonable course of action. You have all her ‘computers’ and panels right there anyway to review.

Besides, Braham GIVING her time to explain herself runs completely contrary to his character. As in the topic about “braham ruining it”, he’s a simple man. Bad guy causes problems, bad guy is right there, kill bad guy, problem solved.

The Molten Alliance will probably fracture, with the Dredge and Flame Legion returning to their perspective factions with their new technology and/or magic. They may be punished for their initial desertion, or perhaps their new techniques will see them welcomed back. (I’m inclined to think that the Flame Legion will be less welcoming, however. They would not look kindly on “heretics” being gifted with their flame magic, or the shamans who gifted it to them.)

The Toxic Alliance is the only group who may possibly follow Mordremoth, or the Nightmare Court faction, anyway. It seems very doubtful that the Krait would see an Elder Dragon as their “prophet”, but any Toxic Krait who returned would likely be seen as apostates and be executed.

It’s actually been stated by Anet on these forums that Molten Alliance charr would be killed on sight bt the other Flame legion if they returned without some sort of AWESOME victory and rep.

Likewise, the same thing was said for the toxic Krait, other Krait would just plain murder them on site.

Also you can inspect her terminals after she dies. It basically says you’d need to bring in the team of experts to figure it out.

To people complaining about lack of Taimi.

A: She’s 11-13 years old. She explicitly states NOBODY is letting her near the city in the camp with the updated dialogue (And she asks you to confirm the refugees tales of destruction, and tells you to tell Scarlet that taimi will become more powerful then her, and will find her and make her pay). Also she and other npcs have added/change dialogue after you kill Scarlet.
B: SHE CAN’T WALK. At least, she can’t walk very far. That’s why she built Scruffy. That’s why in EOTM we gathered parts for Scruffy to be repaired. If Scruffy was to be disabled, damaged, or destroyed, she’d be stranded in the middle of hostiles with no issues slaughtering her.
C: She’s smart enough to understand point B, and is smart enough to stay far away from the Miasma (it’s still around, but not as heavy). Braham and the others wouldn’t stand for it either.

They might, they may not.

I can’t see how we’d go fighting for LA, while theres STILL civilians to rescue.

to make sense story wise, there would be no more citizens in LA, there would also be less time we could stay there as there would be a lethal dose of miasma around. (unless of course we all get gas masks or something)

Notice, attack and escape paths clearly marked. Escape paths that match the ones we see Civilians run through within LA atm.

(Evon’s betrayal of Lion’s Arch and deactivation of a gate). On one hand, they’ve done great things to build a story around Evon. On the other hand, they’ve had him do something that should get him executed, no excuses.

What the hell are you talking about? What gate? What betrayal?

The final Dolyak escort in LA before the end of the event has Evon Gnashblade along with the Dolyaks. Once they reach the end, there’s a bit of dialogue between the Lionguard there telling Evon to hurry up and get his Dolyaks through so they can resume evacuating civilians. Once he’s through, the gate shuts down (They blamed it on Evon, but it was probably closed on Kiel’s orders), the guards run for the exits.

Not a lionguard, Captain Shud of the captain’s council. And IMMEDIATELY after he goes through (And he does say “I got your back”) she goes “What the, how did he turn off the gate. RUN FOR THE EXITS!”

Do we even want to rebuild LA?

It is obvious that LA is a very poor area to defend. It can be attacked by land, sea and air. It have zero natural protection. It is an excellent location for trade. But with Kaineng and Elona out of contact, it is pointless to have such a city in the location of LA.

I believe the future city should be build around/outside a mountain and cave system, which offers much more protection. In case of emergency the citizens can quickly find shelter. This would also give the future council some time to hold out and plan their next move, instead of losing the whole LA in less than an hour.

For example the Glisteriece Caves.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Glisterice_Caves

Cave system provides risk of Destroyer attacks, other cave settlements have faced them.

Really, LA’s area can be defended, Claw Island covers the sea, and if you built walls/battlements around the ways inside/around the main city, it’d be feasable (I’m unsure how well a sea wall would work, given how the depth quickly increases the closer to the lighthouse). But that’d be something that requires a ground up rebuilding.

If Peter is MIA/dead, and the council holds a vote on next member (Which I believe is how it was stated, the Evon vs Kiel election was purely for trade agreement and whoever won that got the seat), I don’t see Evon getting in easily or smoothly.

Kiel and Magnus likely aren’t going to be fans of him with the bashing, and Shud may hold a grudge at his closing the gate in her face and several civilian’s faces.

While that is true, he was the only other person really in the running during the last vacancy, and we haven’t seen any other citizens come to the fore of the Lion’s Arch community since then. Unless they pull a new character out of the blue (sadly not outside the realm of possibility), Evon is really the only choice.

What about Lionguard Thurma? from Southsun and the Aetherblade TA path? She’s in the lionguard tents in bloodtide near the south entrance to LA.

I could see post-attack them wanting to promote another Lionguard to the spot, to better help defenses. Of course, unless we see another major LA person (Maybe not to us, but to LA) come forth… Evon is one of the candidates.

Odgen’s Hammer savings guy for council?
