I like this suggestion and Loki’s addition. It would be great of some of the activities were easily done solo are with a very small number of guildmates.
Oh dear. Balthazar is angered. Perhaps he will rain fire on the upstarts who removed his shrine….
And warm his hands over Kryta’s flames!
Just curious.

The OP gives excellent feedback. I can’t say much about the gauntlet as I only tried it once and realized it wasn’t my cup of tea. However, looking over the suggested improvements, I see listed some of the reasons I didn’t like it. For example, the camera problem. I get so frustrated and aggravated with the camera showing me…well nothing good… walls, floor, ceiling, my characters innards… in jumping puzzles that I tend to avoid them. I ran into camera problems on my first gauntlet try and just decided to avoid it…. obviously that wasn’t the only reason I avoided the gauntlet. It was just a contributing factor. If I liked that sort of content I would have ignored the camera problem. I do support having that sort of content and jumping puzzles as I know some people really love that type of content.
I also agree with the kudos list. I too like the separation of the gauntlet entirely from the other achievement series. The beacons of kryta were fun to complete and gave a nice appropriate reward. And the balloons having 3 activities that rotated through were an improvement over the clickies of the past.
Best of all though is the rotating daily activities. I wasn’t sure about that when first introduced but adding it as a daily and rotating through the activities is a great idea. It ensures that someone is doing the activity when you do it. Very good design for that. When more activities are added to the rotation it will be even better with the variety. I have now added that as one of the activities I do routinely for my daily.
At this point I would also like to state that adding something from the current living story as part of the daily is something that I really appreciate. I don’t always do the LS choice but some days I do and that along with the daily activity rotation has added more variety to my daily.

It’s not RNG. They spawn in a set rotation with three types of events and then the champions within their slot.
I also was missing this champion since he spawns last in the rotation. I simply picked a tower and did its rotation. It took about 45 minutes to cycle through and finish the achievement.
No, it is RNG.
I have done 2 tower rotations for 4 hours now. Unless the sequence involves the shield champ 10x in a row. This is one terrible sequence then. To be clear I have killed every champ spawn in the 2 tower spawns in Queensdale not missing a champ. It’s RNG.
This is the experience I had. The same champion can spawn time after time. If it is a rotation, it is one that bugs out.
See this thread in the bugs forum. It isn’t the gauntlet that is the cause.
What’s bad is when you are stuck in combat and there is still fighting around the chest. If you are lucky it will despawn before you die.
To the mysterious Scarlet,
You may be brave enough defacing Queen Jennah’s likeness on a webpage, but do you dare show your presence here in the nest of vipers that is an MMO community forum?
I dare you. Heck, I double dare you.
:)
But seriously, I have to say this is an entertaining way to build up the storyline for the 20th. The poems and gifts sent to gaming sites were a very nice touch as well. I hope the story turns out to be an engaging one. We’ve needed a good, memorable villain and I think there is some real potential here.
Poems? Gifts? Where do I find out this info?
Yeah, they need to do this with all the achievement based rewards we got (and will get, with future LS patches). All the backpacks, minis, whatever else permanent (non one time use items) items that we get should be in the new achievement rewards section so we can get them back if needed, or get multiples (if we really like the item).
I might actually use some of them if they did that. I have many skins sitting in storage that I haven’t used because I don’t want to commit them to one character. The ones that you can use without making them soulbound are nice BUT often you would need to transmute them to something with better stats for practical use and that would make them soulbound.
No worries. I think the queue was an attempt to encourage player interaction and think it might be a good idea. I also think the addition of observer mode would be good.
Camera viewing I would love to have improved not just for this type content but also for jumping puzzles, but I know that is difficult for them to address (I’ve read discussion on it before by the developers in relation to jp). Since they can’t make the camera work in that type encounter, I think it would be better for them to work to not have it shaped in a way that messes with the camera.
Some of the things I think could be addressed though.

I agree also. I’d like items like that to be “unlocked” for the account. I’d also like for there to be something in the UI for holding the extra fluff items such as kites, balloons, minipets, then you could deploy them from the UI.
New skill – deploy kite! :P
The money you got for the support tickets was tiny. Insignificant. Minuscule. Not a lot.
Isn’t it more annoying to have to destroy items that you can’t sell for anything that “might” be useful “someday” but meanwhile would take up your bank or bag slots. For example, like harvesting tools you’ve outleveled or replaced by getting permanent ones?
I think it was a nice gesture on their part.
I think its good to have an activity such as this for max level characters only. I have no problem with that.
I would suggest that they label it as such and make the tickets account bound, not soulbound. It is misleading for each character to get tickets that are soulbound to an activity that really isn’t meant for them if they are not max level. It also means that you should only be playing on the character that you want to do the gauntlet with for the duration. Otherwise you will be getting unusable tickets on other characters.
You can really tell which people actually read the entire OP and then reply based on that and which people instead are “oh noes, words” and don’t read the entire post and then reply in the typical learn to play manner.
First of all, he is giving feedback, not asking how to beat the champions.
Second of all, he wants challenging.
Third of all, he doesn’t think walking back from the waypoint is fun or challenging. He doesn’t think waiting in a long queue is challenging. He doesn’t think staring at the blurred insides of his character due to the camera not showing what is front of him as challenging. He doesn’t think lagging out when a zergfest appears below him in the other part of the Queen’s pavilion is a challenge. He thinks that is punishing. The word I would have used for those things is annoying.
He thinks that fighting the actual target is the enjoyable challenging part.
And based on that he is giving feedback to ANET in hopes that they will improve future offerings. You may, however, consider all the things that he found punishing and that I find annoying as good features that improve your enjoyment of the game.
If you actually found that walking back from waypoints, waiting in queues, zergfests below you, and the camera not showing you what you should be able to see as fun and a pleasant and needed addition to make the experience challenging and want more of that in future encounters then by all means encourage ANET to have that feature more abundantly.
WTB: Decent Staff Skin. Anybody? Anybody? No? …….
dont you like tsunami?
That is a scepter. But it is very cool looking.
People need to not use the word exploit for everything. An exploit is not a general term for everything that might be nerfed in the future.
Did you all find some mechanism that prevents you from dying? Like are you glitching under the world? If so, that would be an exploit.
Are you fighting and winning? Using normal game mechanics? That isn’t an exploit.
System ate mail items when the new wallet went live. You need to send in a support ticket.
Maybe he could level one of each to around level 10 or so and put the items he gets into the shared bank. Sell everything soulbound and earn some cash that way. I know it is less than ideal but rather than fret over what is annoying, perhaps just look to see how you can creatively use the system to gain things in preparation to being on the same server.
I hope that they start making more items like this account unlocks instead of single items. Like the weapon and armor skins that we now unlock with achievement points and the hall of monuments skins. If they just had them as an unlock on our ui or on an npc such as the one in the hall of monuments, it would be more convenient to us and they would have less requests to support to restore items like this.
You will have to go to at least 15 different areas to complete this. You have to do thirty different balloon towers. You can’t repeat one at all and have it count more than once. That is for your account also. You can’t change to another character and go back and do a tower you did on one character.
You have a valid point about real world sportsmanship. But also, you don’t sabotage the other competitor in real life sports. If you are running a race, then you RUN your best race. You don’t put in things that cause the other runner to fall or otherwise interfere with them. In fact you get penalties in games if you do that type thing.
So how does this video game relate to real life sports? I don’t see that it does.
I feel it is poor sportsmanship to use the traps to mess up other people. I feel that is saying that you can’t win honestly, so you are sabotaging the other players to make up for your lack of skill.
However, they are in the game so obviously they are supposed to be used. They are obviously “intended” and the game developers I’m sure consider that to be part of the strategy of the game.
My point is, we may have different opinions on what is good and what is bad sportsmanship.
Yeah, all my tickets are on my wvw character and my low level character that I am leveling. Most of my 80s have no tickets. I wish they would change them back to account bound.
Because people kept remaking characters, putting tickets on bank.
Every character gets 5 tickets for free, so basically you could get infinite free tickets.
And they could have done something to prevent that. For example, not give the tickets out through the mail anymore AFTER the event started. Poor fix for the problem.

Excellent post. You did a great job separating the fun parts from the frustrating/annoying parts.
You need to do 30 unique balloon towers. There are two in each zone. They don’t reset so you have to always do one you haven’t done before on your account. You only need to complete one of the missions for each tower.
Hope that helps.
I’ve done most of the one meta but none of the gauntlet.
I’ve tried the first boss in the gauntlet and it just isn’t the type of content I enjoy. No fun. I’m not thrilled that I won’t get the mini but it isn’t a good enough reward to make me force myself to do it.
Can you do enough dailies and skip the torchbearer? I keep running out of time on those.
I think that they should consider when they design this content the following:
Is this content making the players compete for resources or not?
The sharing credit for kills, having your own loot and harvest nodes, being able to heal and rez each other promotes cooperation.
Some of the recent content has introduced competition for kills and other competitive elements that undoes the good that the game started out with.
Well. I supported both. To get the mini Ellen and Evon. o.O
I think it would help a lot of guild tags were available. These tags should be able to be set to be seen only by members of the guild or perhaps have a setting where they can be seen also by people partied with the guild members.
Regardless, that would limit the people following someone around to guild members and cut down on some pressure. However, that doesn’t help right now as it is not available.
Other than the “take a break” advice I would suggest that you use ignore as a tool to remove annoyance. When people get obnoxious in map chat with their kittening criticism, just add them to the ignore list. You can instruct your guildies to let you know if anything important is said by them, such as location of a zerg.
However, if neither of those would help, perhaps those are not problems contributing to your burn out. Perhaps limit your time in WvW if you don’t outright take a break.

I think 30 were too much. Not because it was too much to visit 30 balloons but because of running into bugs so much that it was more like 40 balloons and having to do the exact same things at each balloon. 10 would have been plenty. It was busy work.
I would have preferred a story that took the same amount of time and effort but wasn’t doing the same thing …. waypoint to balloon, do I of 3 things, waypoint, repeat. Bit boring. A quest series would have been more interesting. For example, I really enjoyed the ones we did to get the book back item at Mad King festival. That was more interesting to me.
I killed every single type of champion (more than once) getting the chest on every single type. I didn’t get credit until I went back and talked to each champion. Apparently it is an inconsistent bug. I was frustrated with it not completing and it would only give me credit for the last one when I did that. If he is having the same problem it might help him finish it.
This is the method that has been working for me:
—-When you get to a balloon, do not go up the stairs if the door is open.
Instead, wait for the door to close and do the next event.
If an event is in progress you can talk to the balloon guy and help finish the event but DO NOT go up the stairs for that one either.
Instead, make sure that you are there when the door to the balloon stairs closes, you talk to the balloon guy, you complete the event, and then run back to get the chest.
That way is most consistent in giving me credit for balloon events. However, you won’t always get loot from the chest. I have gotten loot from about half the chests. The others have been empty, even though they were unopened.
Ok here is what was slowing me down. You have to be the one to talk to him to start the fight to get credit. If you talk to the balloon person to start it and then someone else talks to the champion, even if you get the chest for defeating the champion and the loot from the balloon …he doesn’t count.
So make sure you stand by each type and talk to them to start the fight.
We should make a form letter for people to fill out, because these posts always follow the same format.

Only once…………..more words to make it 15.
I’ve only played the zerg events on Tuesday and enjoyed them. I got the kill 100 of all and had fun, made money, etc.
I think this was trying something like the southsun angry settlers (disgruntled?). That was a fun farm and we got to socialize in between. It was a nice change for those who like to sometimes mindlessly farm. This event seemed a little too fast paced for the socializing part though. The buffs from the emissarys were nice and similar to the buffs from southsun.
I agree the currencies are out of control. Even with the wallet, I still have baubles, bauble bubbles, and numerous other tokens and items sitting in storage waiting to see if I use them again. It would be less clutter if there was a unified festival/achievement token.
I would add to that, some of the crafting materials that are limited time availability. You will tend to store stacks of those because you might not be able to get more for a while and then they clutter up your space due to only stacking in 250 quantities.
(edited by Katz.5143)
Oh good grief. Can’t they make ones from the mail soulbound and ones from in game play account bound.
Now we won’t be perplexed?
Well, seems to me that this content requires a zerg. Probably by making it reoccuring you will have enough people when it is available to make it doable. For once I’m not going to complain about it being temporary.
I’m not a fan of the temporariness of content here in general though. I hope they make it work for them. I’m frustrated not know what is going to repeat and what is gone forever. I wish they would make it clear. Mark the things that will be gone forever with a mark that indicates that. Then I would ignore the other stuff since it would later return. -_-
I hope they revert these back to account bound. What reason should they be soulbound?
Nice feature addition. I wish you would add any token that could be used in the future to it. I’ve got a lot of temporary content stuff that I don’t know if I should delete or hang onto in case it is reused in the future. It would be nice if either these items went into the wallet or were converted to a generic token to cut down on clutter.
What-in-earth are you talking about? It takes maybe 4-5 hours to complete each meta of the latest round and that’s not even sweating it! You have two weeks to complete them. If you can’t spare 10 hours over 2 weeks, how in the name of everything that is good do you feel you should be entitled to get those achievements?
Every time I read these posts I’m beginning to feel my joke about people wanting the “achievements” mailed to them when they log in wasn’t a joke after all…
You make me lose faith in gamers. Gamers are supposed to actually play the games.
Did you read the OP post? It takes YOU 10 hours spread out over 2 weeks. It is taking the OP much longer than that. And no where did it say they did not want to play the game. The complaint was that they are TEMPORARY.
Why can’t they add in new things every two weeks for the fast people with a lot of time to spend in game and then just leave it in the game. Then the rest of us can finish it, just at a much slower pace than you super fast people.
In addition, things that I would normally just laugh and shake my head now cause me extreme frustration because of the temporary time sensitive nature of the current game.
I just posted a thread about my frustration of the buff wearing off and not noticing it….then the dungeon and daily complete and I didn’t get either achievement reward due to the stinking buff. Now if I would have time to recover from this, I would have laughed at myself. But since I’m going out of town for a week starting tomorrow, I am extremely frustrated and annoyed with the game. :/
And to top it off my daily completed at the same time I completed the dungeon. So I lost 2 achievements. I have plenty of representation buff buttons. And if you have to reactivate after an hour how will the permanent one help? You still have to remember. Unless you can toggle it on for good until toggled off?
That doesn’t matter now as I was down to the wire to finish these and that one thing has ended it for me. Which is why I don’t like this temporary content. If it would still be here after I get back next Tuesday, I could do it then and wouldn’t be so annoyed right now.
I got the Ellen mini. I wanted the Evon mini too. Each time something like this happens I’m a step closer to leaving for good. I was enjoying this game immensely until they started with the temporary fixation.
(edited by Katz.5143)
I went through a dungeon path with inexperienced people so we could get the achievement for doing a dungeon while representing. The buff wore off and an hour and half’s time is wasted.
I know I could have reapplied it if I thought about it but I was concentrating on doing the dungeon.
And now, I have to go out of town for a week so no way to get the mini now.
Why did the game go from casual fun to timed stress inducing annoyance?
Yes I know it isn’t hard. I did it all on one candidate. But it takes time. And it is temporary. And now I can’t get the reward for the other candidate and that is annoying.
After thinking about it, I realize the achievements is actually confusing people, including me, on what is more important regarding the trials.
The trials’ event reward (bronze, silver, gold) is based on how many Aetherblades are killed and more you kill, the more loot you get, even if you fail.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the most valuable prize from the trials are the Aetherblade weapon skins right? So the real goal when doing the trials should be just kill everything you see, so you can get more loot, for more chance at getting the skins.
Some of us just want to complete the kitten achievement and then never do the content again.
Right now it is annoying me. This is fast becoming the game that I “used to love”. I hope it improves. Currently I feel we are in a beta game that has no intention of making it to release (as they don’t keep the content).
As best I can tell they plan on keeping some of the content in the future by reusing mini games and putting dungeons in fractals. That is not the same as an expansion with new things for everyone to do. Fractals are ok if you have a group that you know and can do fractals with all the time. I don’t. Minigames are not content I want to concentrate on.
