All this for a fluff mini? Difficulty is not in line with reward and temporary content.
So when are we getting a nerf for this?
Never. i finished so its possible.
II think he meant that it should be nerfed when there is more than one person. Right now it’s incredibly easy to solo, but much harder with one person. It increases with difficulty because of the lazy “more hp, more damage” philosophy that Anet seems to have adopted from WoW>
They changed it last night I hear. Solo it today and come back and say it is easy. Perhaps it still is. I don’t know.
Variety is good for the game, especially a balanced variety. If we make too much of any one type of content, eventually that type of content will become tiresome. The purpose of my reply wasn’t to naysay jumping puzzles or activities, but just to let you know that something different is coming. Personally, I’m a huge fan of epic open-world dynamic events and since I’ve had a hand or two in the upcoming releases, you should get ready.
As the late Captain Mai once said, watch the skies.
I’m going to be blunt here. I’m sick of the current renditions of the living story. I hope it changes to something that seems less beta disposable content. I actually love minigames. The game has managed to make me start hating them.
My friends and I played gw1 for years and eagerly awaited gw2. We loved it at first.
Two things have spoiled it for us.
1. rng/gambling/gem store weapon and armor skins for my friends as they are really into gearing up their characters in looks they like and they HATE rng/gem store chest methods combined with ingame-temp-content-small-rare-chance of getting it. Quite frankly this makes the company look overly greedy and manipulative of people with poor impulse control. We don’t buy the chests in the gem store. We have been buying other items that we like (you know what you are getting when you buy it items) because we wanted to “support” anet. Now we are not inclined to purchase more items from the store.
2. Permanent beta-like temporary content with the following problems.
- forced jumping puzzles
- instances that need “raid-like” coordination and planning combined with temporary achievements and rewards. This would be fine if it was permanent and the rewards were good enough so that people would continue to do the content. But it is neither.
If this was permanent achievements and rewards so that we could work towards it then good.
If it was temporary easy content then ok.
In watching the video interviews and seeing the posts on the plans, I guess my friends and I are out of luck. As best I can tell, this is how it is going to be from now on.
My question is, am I right? Is this how all new content will be from now on? I’m finding it more annoying than fun at the moment. Yes there are things I like, but those things are mixed with enough annoying things that make me want to rage quit and drives me away from the game.
I’m not whining or trying to be a entitled-easymode-learn-to-play-carebear. I’m just trying to decide if I want to devote anymore time in this game. If the majority of players prefer it this way then who am I to want it to change for me and my friends. I just want to know if there is going to be content for people like my friends and me. If not, I have my answer.
It could be set to toggle off automatically in LA and other cities.
Or they could put the jumping puzzles into the game, but not tie them to other achievements. Have a separate jumping puzzle achievement that does not contribute to a reward that is unrelated.
My oldest son LOVES the JPs and he is very good at them. He does not look up how to do them. Instead he figures them out himself. Therefore, I understand how someone can love them.
I, on the other hand, might rage quit the game if I have to do them for a reward that I really want. I’m terrible at them coupled with I don’t enjoy them that much. If I was terrible at them but enjoyed them and wanted to get better that would be different.
With that logic should take all rewards / achievements away because some don’t like JP’s, some don’t like dungeons, some don’t like…. I would love to see them be more useful for leveling. JP’s are a big part of GW2 but they are useless for leveling or loot. You get some AP the first time you do them and thats it. I would prefer leveling ,my alts with some very hard JP’s over doing hearths for example. Or I would prefer earning skins by doing JP’s in stead of doing dungeons. You can level in this game with dungeons, WvW hearths and events but sadly JP’s is not an option. So I would see giving them a bigger role.. of course not a unique role so people who don’t like it can reach there goals in other ways but if there would be some unique item/ skill only as rare drop from one JP chest (providing the chest is available every time you do the JP, not once a day) then thats no problem if they also put another rare skin in a dungeon.
Uh..no. I said have a SEPARATE achievement. That means they have an achievement.
That does not contribute to a reward that is UNRELATED. So it has its own achievement and its own reward.
And why can’t they have more achievements and rewards for each category? A dungeon set, a fractile set, and jp set, a minigame set, a sPvP set, a WvW set, a PvE set.
(edited by Katz.5143)
You need to get away from that roommate. No telling what else he or she will do. That’s pretty rotten.

I should play this song when my ele runs through wvw. :P
For some reason the answer to every critique is one of the following:
-You don’t need it.
-You aren’t forced to do it.
-or something with carebear, entitled, QQ, crybaby, or some other inane stereotypical buzzword.
I wish people would expand their conversational abilities.
It’s a game. We don’t even need the game, or to play it, or to do anything in it. No one is forcing us to play the game. Now that that is out of the way, can we accept that the game was not made just for you or just for me or just for any one person and that we are not all exactly alike.
The OP has a right to express what he likes about the game and what he does not like about the game just as much as anyone else does. He is expressing his opinion to the people who actually can either explain why the armor is account bound or change it so that it isn’t account bound, and that isn’t you or me. That is ANET.
Giving feedback to ANET lets them know what people do and don’t like. Would you like for more and more armor, weapons, etc to become crafted account bound? How about from now on, everything that is released requires you to craft it and be max level crafter because they want everyone to craft? They have said that they are trying things out to see what works, what doesn’t work, what people like, what people don’t like. If we don’t give them feedback then we may have this become a feature.
Greedy as hell, dudes.
Anet gives ability to choose next content and your answer is “SHUT UP WE WANT BOTH GIVE US BOTH WE DON’T WANT TO CHOOSE WE WANT EVERYTHING”
It’s politics. That means greed, dirty sneaky deeds, underhanded bribes, and so forth.
I’m all for this one. I wish we could craft picket signs.
I like the jumping in the bazaar with the aspect crystals. I didn’t mind getting the 40 crystals although I didn’t like the fact that I felt pressured to do it quickly so that it got done before the content disappeared. The jumping in the race is fun to me also except when kittens leave traps.
Jumping and jumping puzzles (jp) are two different things. There were some jp that were required for part of the content. I think some people just don’t like jumping at all while others just don’t like the jp. (and yes I know some people like everything about everything).
Well, I can see how it would work that way. Having to do the mapping in WvW got me into playing WvW.
However, I’m horrible at jumping puzzles and this did not make me want to do jp more than I am forced to. I don’t want them to keep requiring jp for the overall achievement. I wouldn’t mind having them as a separate achievement all their own each time though.
I did however, very much enjoy using the aspect skills to travel around in the bazaar area.
Anything with “guild” on it means that your guild will be helping out on purchasing any “guild” related items.
Lol, no. It doesn’t. All it means is it displays the emblem.
Really? So if your guild members aren’t representing your guild, do you think you’ll have enough points to create even a guild banner on your own? How about the guild missions? Guild bounty perhaps?
It is unfortunate that your guild is not as helpful as mine was.
No. You can get the guild emblem to appear on your armor, on a backpack, on weapons. Are you really supposed to get your guild to pay for that? Those are inexpensive and any one can afford them. It is not the “guild” on it that means that the guild should work together to get it. What makes it a guild effort is that it is something useful to the guild as a whole.
The commander tag has a use. The commander tag is a useful tool for the entire guild as long as the person you chip in to purchase it for stays around and does a good job. The Guild mission and bounty are useful to the guild as a whole.
The kite emblem is a toy. You can’t even fight when it is displayed. I don’t see that it would be something the guild should fork out money so that one person has. It is frivolous. On that note, since they are permanent additions to the game then I have no issue with the price. If I want one, I will get one when 15 gold is nothing to me.
However, I would like to know if the kites that you need to reskin will be continuously available. I assume so, otherwise it makes no difference that the guild emblem for the kite is permanent. I would also like some ingame ways to get kites. I’d like one on each of my characters but I can’t justify paying gems for them to myself.

well there were books planned for GW2 in the past, I wonder why it got scrapped?!
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/story-accessible/first#post2432398
The plan was to make lore accessible to the players in the game. So that they could read it again and again, whenever they choose… without leaving the game. I agree, it would be awesome if those blogposts and further lore pieces would be available in some form ingame.
You know, I didn’t know about books… it would certainly make all the book carts throughout Divinity’s Reach make more sense.
I don’t mind the lore on the website, but at the same time, I do rarely look there by default, so I constantly either miss things or have to actively remind myself. It seems that while putting it there is a good idea, putting some sort of interface in game so that people can read in game also would be a good idea.
I really do like the idea of collecting lore books, though we’d have to have some sort of separate inventory/bank space for it so it doesn’t clog up my already clogged bank vault space. hehe.
I think we need housing where we could put place-able books. Then we could collect the lore and have it on shelves to review whenever we wanted.
I am the only one of my friends that reads the forums and website content. If you don’t somehow get the important information in game they will not even know it exists.
Then do the grind then for the 16 achievements without doing the JPs there are 16 alternatives.
1. Strangers from the Sky
2. Voyage to the Bazaar
3. Ascent to Zephyr Sanctum
4. Diverse Trader
5. Grandmaster of Om
6. Sanctum Sprint
7. Parachute Pilferer
8. Kookoochoo the Incredulous
9. Poor Man’s Kite
10. Kite Bombing
11. Colossal Kites
12. Like Clockwork
13. Crowd Favorite
14. Crystal Obsessed
15. Pickup Completionist
16. Lessons from the Sky/Speedy Sprinter/Sanctum Sprinter/Kites of Iron/Kites of the Night/Best. Dive. Ever.So yes you have a lot of options. The sky crystals aren’t JPs they are easy to acquire with very little jumping at all. You mostly have to be creative with your 3 abilities. Sanctum Sprint is easy as well and it doesn’t involve jumping except a few vertical ones (which isn’t complex). Best dive is easy to acquire and even if you aren’t that great there is a video by Dulfy that makes it easy and do know Dulfy doesn’t like JPs either but she managed to acquire these achievements. Kites of Iron is easy and it is simply jumps (something I know most people do in this game already moving around). When it shakes just pause and take your time. Kites of Night is easy too and the kite isn’t located at the end either. As you can see you can easily acquire 16 achievements and if you don’t mind grinding then certainly you shouldn’t mind having to try a few times instead of just getting the first time for some of these. Kite Bombing just requires some drops and jumping small gaps very easy to acquire the achievement.
Pretty much it is easy to acquire 16 achievements and for different people it might take more time because you might fail a few times or you just need to put a bit more effort (trial and error). So in a sense you can grind your way to it.
Lastly, the node isn’t mandatory at all it gives something for those that complete the achievements. But if you don’t have it you will just miss out on a few quartz per day which isn’t a big deal. If you wanted the boxes you can always grind the other materials to trade it in and you are willing to grind. On top of that, you can only make one charged per day and most people have an excess amount of quartz around.
I think you didnt do it, 50% of thing you posted are in jp ! ;/
Which ones are jp then? I don’t think you did them, since I have done most of those and they’re definitely not jumping puzzles.
explaining:
kite bombing is a jumping puzzle on hard mode, on easy mode it’s just pve
collossal kite is a dungeon, and a very easy one at that (lvl 1 fractal, kill 2 mobs, get kite)
poor man’s kite is in the open, no jumping or anything. All other achievements in that list ain’t jumping either.
So you are saying that if you don’t use the bomb in kite bombing, you don’t have to do any jumping?
Kite in the night was easier to me than the other two jp’s mentioned. If you watch the video its pretty easy to get to and if you luck out and other people are there the door may already be open.
Ok, got the last achievement. I appreciate all the suggestions.
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I’ll work on the race and jp and if I get a group the fractal.
Tell your friend to not use that skill. I don’t ever use the pets on my ele. There are other useful skills.
That’s a very comprehensive list.
I would like for them to move all of the skins that we get to a system like they have for the achievement skins now. And give us a choice to make it retroactive. I would like the Wintersday skins on the achievement tab and off the character that is holding them all in her bags. I would like the back items that had stats to be convertible to skins in the same place. The book from halloween, the two from Southsun cove (flower and tentacles), the wind, sun, and air catchers. All the skins and anything else that is appearance. I would use them more and be more excited about them if they were there. As it is I don’t want to hassle with moving them from armor to armor.
Sort of like GW1 districts?
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/District
I want that for PvE too and including the European servers.
Katz, maybe you know this already but you don’t need to complete Griffonrook to get the kite. Taking ones time without the bomb nor trying to complete the jp is much easier.
Yeah, I’ve watched Dulfy’s video about it and haven’t taken the bomb. The problem is I am falling and dying early on. I just truly fail and jumping puzzles.
I love parts of it, am neutral on parts of it, and hate parts of it.
I enjoy new things added every two weeks or month…but hate temporary and rushed for time result due to it not staying in.
Another thing I don’t like is for example the current Bazaar quartz node reward requirements. You have basically two rewards from achievements. One you get from jp like sky crystals. I managed to get that one. The other, more important quartz node reward has many achievements available and I’ve gotten 15 out of the 16 required.
But now I’m faced with ones left that aren’t due to time invested or perseverance, but are based on certain types of player skills and luck or being able to find a group to go with you. I hope I can get a fractal group together because then that one should be doable.
I’d rather they separate these things out and give separate rewards for similar tasks. Have the jp give a reward and achievement. Have the minigames have their own reward and achievement. Have the quartz crystal node not tied to jp and minigame winning. If for example I could finish this up by just trying over and over and over, ok I would do that. But you have to win.
Sadly, I love the new area. I love the looks, the activities, pretty much everything about it. I love the race. That is soured by the fact that I can’t by persistence finish that last achievement.
I also don’t like not knowing what will never come back, what will show back up, when it will show back up, etc.
(edited by Katz.5143)
I like the active combat and that you can cast skills while on the move. I like that you can fight together without being grouped. I like that we (mostly) don’t compete for kill credit, harvesting nodes, and loot. I also like WvWvW. Those or the things I miss when I play my other games.
What prompted my question was that some guy gave his friend cash so he could use his friends credit card to buy gems then his “friend” disputed it on his card which caused the original guy to lose his gw2 account permanently. I would have felt much better about the situation if they had let him make good on the money owed using game cards or paypal or something to recover his account.
Although I will never use anyone else s credit card, I was playing a Sony game back when they got hacked and they gave us all a free year of enrollment in some organization that watched for misuse of the info. Unfortunately they were over zealous and when I tried to purchase secret world when it first came out, they blocked it as “suspicious” which resulted in the account being banned. Problem was, I had earned all the stuff from their facebook build up to the game so that annoyed me enough I didn’t even try to make another account and play the game. They could not or would not let me switch from the credit card to paypal on the same account.
The point of that story is that was when I realized how easily an account can get permanently lost. If paypal or your credit card company messes up, you can’t switch to another payment method and fix it. You are just out of luck. I’d rather be able to buy things at a store and then apply a code. That seems less risk to me.
I wish they would handle it in a way that doesn’t put your account at risk. Like I mentioned before, don’t let you have the item until the payment goes through or let you pay it some other way.
(edited by Katz.5143)
Everyone has been helpful so far, thanks!
I need only one more achievement to get the quartz node. Here is what is left for me:
- drinking minigame – you have to complete all the drinking minigame activities in order to play the guy in bazaar who gives you the achievement – correct or incorrect?
- race – getting in the top three would do it. Don’t think that is going to happen I’ve done more than 50 races and haven’t gotten closer than 6th place. Plus, I enjoy the race but if I continue trying this I will hate it and I don’t want to go there.
- jumping puzzles. I’ve done the two easy ones and have been trying for 2 days to do griffinrook run.
Questions:
Is anyone else in this same situation and would like to join a party with me to do the fractal kite? As best I can tell it would be the easiest one to complete of those left in the jp list.
Am I right about the drinking game? Do you have to complete everything to get the achievement?
Well, where is this recorded? People leave the race so the list that pops up isn’t accurate. Is it listed somewhere so that you are all famous for wining bunches of races?
What I hate are the traps placed in areas that are guaranteed to knock you off and set you back, sometimes a lot. I don’t use the traps against other players. I know they are in the game by design but personally I see them as the cheap way to win. When I run a race and there are few or no traps, I enjoy the race no matter where I place. When I run a race and there is trap after trap set to knock you off a platform, I want to slap someone and I feel very hostile towards the rest of the players. I don’t say anything but it reminds me of the competitive jerks that hit people in the throat with their elbow when the ref isn’t looking.
Traps are, just like in Mario Kart and similiar games, only useful for extending your lead. And yes, there are brutally mean places to put them. But that is the game and how it is played.
Remember that you still can see the false power-ups and you can activate your Grounded skill to avoid getting affected by them. Which you should. And it is easy to tell the false ones. They’re the ones that are in odd places.
It’s difficult to see them when you are using the lightning jump. And I’ve gone through races where they have been on consecutive lightning jumps. I know they are meant to be there and used, obviously, that’s why the developers put them in the game. Some players will feel this is strategic playing. That’s ok. I feel that it is saying, I’m slow, I can’t win by just going through the race, therefore, I’ll just win by having you thrown off a platform. We have different points of view. I see it as winning the “lazy” way.
Probably its because I like to compete against myself. Do better. Do better again. Make that jump faster, make that turn quicker, etc. I don’t care how the other players do, I’m not competing against them, I’m competing against how I did last time. I’m not going to put traps down for the other players. To me that is telling myself, well, guess you CAN’T do better.
I’ve done 40 races and got one skin – the sun catcher.
Thanks for the kite. It was an unexpected nice surprise.
Sorry for the delay – Kites of the Night
Thanks! Ah yes I’ve done that one before. Dark, traps, use torches. Got it.
Ok, I did that jp and the poor man’s kite one. Now I either have to place in top three of the racing or do one more jp. Which is the easiest of the remaining jp?
(edited by Katz.5143)
i before e, except after c
Except when sounding as “A” in neighbor or weigh… or dozens of other exceptions to the ‘rule’ that in fact, outnumber the ones that actually follow it, making this a completely useless mnemonic.
It’s a reasonably good rule of thumb to get started.
The OP is right though. Way too many people in this game spell it “Theif” and it drives me nuts.
Having “their” and “thief” in the same sentence drives me even crazier.
Whoever come up with these spelling rules ought to retire…seriously.
I think they are long dead. Those rules were made up way before our time.
People,
Just as we should not be pressured to not wait at the line, we in turn should not pressure Vinyl or any other to concede their wins. That is their personal choice and they are no less a person for choosing it.
I don’t think people were asking him to concede his wins. They were criticizing his attitude towards those who let people win. At least most of the replies I read seemed to be saying that.
I think a lot of people are like me. They just want that stupid quartz node for their home instance and would rather get the progress towards that as much as possible in the fun race than go do annoying jumping puzzles that they hate. I’ve only gotten as close as running in 3rd place for a while but not all the way to the end where it counts.
If it were just knowing the route I could do it, I just get knocked off the platforms by the traps. Is there anyway to tell a trap is there? What’s the strategy on not being slowed down by the traps? Other than of course being in front of people placing them?
(edited by Katz.5143)
I expect it was due to people leaving and I only thought I was in 3rd. Thanks for clearing that up. So if you get first place does it give you two achievements at once? 1 for being first and 1 for placing in top 3?
I have all three. I’d have to say I enjoy my necro best in WvW and she does well in PvE also.
I thought frequent sprinter would count … but it didn’t. I’m guessing you have to do all 6 of the other guys before you can do Master of Om and only Master of Om counts? What about the jps. Do they each count towards it?
I’ve gotten 12/16 and have two more I’m working on that I’m pretty sure will count. That puts me 2 short. It’s unlikely I’ll place first in the races. So I’m guessing I’ll have to do two jp’s.
I placed in the top 3 racing and it didn’t count. Why is that? Are there certain circumstances when it doesn’t count?
How in the world have these flying ship people been around with no one having heard of them before? And we go there and we are acting like, no big deal this is normal. This feels totally chaotic to me. Like someone is flipping through channels on the TV staying on each show 20 seconds. There was no lead in to it. No back story. Everything is disjointed. So what is this? Is it a story or just unrelated activities to do every two weeks or so?
I think they need to hire someone who can be the overall story person that organizes it all.
(edited by Katz.5143)
I’m assuming they meant that to be level 80 to wear the armor and just made a mistake. If not, I’m not affected because my crafters are level 80 but I still think it is a bad idea. Some people have crafting alts they they don’t plan on leveling.
I’m guessing the frequency of the LS updates is what keeps people here. (Or else why are devs making their own lives so difficult?). So the question is if they changed and were brought out every 3 months, would you quit? Would you stop spending real money in game? Would you be so un happy? If you read the interviews about the LS the devs make it sound like without them the game would die. Is this true?
And another thought occurs, does their current schedule cause you to spend more real money in game, and play more?
Just curious.. I truly think every 2 weeks is nuts and quality will suffer. Your thoughts?
They are beginning to have the opposite effect on me. I don’t do well in things that are timed .. whether it is a jp that has timed parts or a race. I don’t like content that is around a limited time. I’m terrible at jumping. I don’t have the super fast reflexes needed to jump, spin, etc to win. I’ve got 5 level 80’s. I’ve got 95% map completion. I play WvW. I don’t play sPvP. So its not like I can’t or don’t do “anything”. I just can’t do a lot of what the last two living worlds have required.
And before people come in with the “entitled” etc complaints. No, I’m not wanting to spoil other peoples fun and sense of achievement. No, I don’t want things just handed to me. People who thrive on this type content will be happy.
I’m just trying to decide if this is the game for me anymore.
I’m getting bored with the repetitious killing a certain number of things and clicking on a certain number of things and getting frustrated with temporary content, jp requirements, and content that requires you to have a really fast reaction time.
I completed all of Flame and frost and most of southsun cove and dragon bash. I completed one achievement in sky pirates – krytan aetherblades killing one. I’ve completed 9/16 of this last one. I have 3 more achievements to do that I’m looking forward to doing. That leaves 4 more. I doubt I get the sky crystal done. I have 28/40 but getting to the last 12 is proving more frustrating than fun. I did 1 of the jp ones (because it wasn’t a jp). I may or may not do the drinking minigame. I love the race but I’m not skilled enough to place in the top 3. I had fun at first in this living story but now not so much.
I hope that they have something else they will add to pve for those of us who aren’t into the current trend. However, I got the impression that expansions are out and living story is in. So if the PvE content continues to be this way then no I won’t be playing more. I’ll be playing less.
Keep in mind that these are awarded to the account and as mentioned before are coming faster due to needing to catch up with the number of achievement points.
Once it reaches the point that the backlog is gone, the badges will come more slowly for a new player and combined with needing badges for alts, you will still have to supplement the achievement chests with wvw obtained badges.
Well said, Harbard.
I also signed up to play an MMORPG.
There’s a lot more I could add, but there have been many on this thread that have expressed the same sentiment. Harbard, thank you for your voice here, you echo my feelings and my guild’s feeling very well in your posts.
I feel for you…because genres evolve. What used to be an RPG is nothing like any MMO really. MMOs are TERRIBLE RPGs. I’m an RPG guy from a long time ago and this is the first mmoRPG I can play for any length of time.
The genre is evolving. Rift had some jumping. SWToR had some jumping and I suspect future games will have a lot more of it. Genres evolve all the time. If you don’t like the way it’s evolving, it will simply evolve without you.
How far will the game evolve if a-net continue to evolve along a path ( going by this post) a large % don’t want? will gw2 be another rift? a game that started great but is now laughed at.
Say your playing rift and most respond …Rift lol
EDIT: What is interesting is thou both the games you mention are fail.
And you think they failed because they had jumping? I think they failed because they had nothing to offer but gear grind. I know someone personally who loved Rift, took a break and couldn’t catch up with his guild after the update. He just couldn’t spend the time and got tired of playing alone even though he wanted to play with his guild. It had nothing to do with jumping.
SWToR didn’t fail because of jumping either. Nice try though.
Most games that fail, don’t fail because of “one” thing. They usually fail because players leave. And why they leave will vary depending on the type of player.
Although players leave games for reasons of their own, it is often it is an accumulation of things that build up and then the “last straw” happens. One thing to keep in mind though is that even minor irritants can contribute to this. It could be that there are a lot of little irritants that bug you but aren’t enough to drive you away. Then the “big” irritant rears its ugly head and adds to the cumulative total of irritants.
We all know players are motivated by different goals and annoyed by different things. We all know you can put us into categories by what motivates us to play, what we enjoy, and what we mildly dislike, and what absolutely irritates us to the max.
Whether a game keeps enough players to remain a healthy population or not depends on the enjoyment/irritant ratio for the different types of players.
Unfortunately, for most games when populations are very high and cash shops are raking in the money, there is a tendency to ignore the irritants and to a certain extent the motivations. Then if populations decline, suddenly there is an attitude change and more attention to the irritants that were previously trivialized. Usually it is at the “too little, too late” point.
I know that for a game to be fun, it needs a enough players for the world to be populated and all areas of the game (pve open world, dungeons, sPvP, WvW, etc) to be bustling with players. For that reason, I want the enjoyment/irritation to weight heavy on the enjoyment side as much as feasibly possible for all the different types of players.
This can be difficult because what makes it on my list as an enjoyment might make it to your list as an irritant.
Right now I’m using paypal and haven’t had a problem. However, suppose I bought some gems and then paypal did something – would that be considered a charge back?
I may just try and find some Gem cards somewhere.
Thanks for the link to the video. I have the same concerns he does. I don’t really see a story in the living story. Right now it is more like my weekly grocery list. What little story there is gets buried in the noise of completing the list.
I love his idea of adding a tab for the story elements. Especially if it helps you find the part that is actually story. I also would be fine with the have the rewards available for the 2 weeks (or one month) or whatever but have the activities stay. I don’t know if everyone would be ok with that but I would.
Giving us an “expansions worth” of content released slowly and constantly is a good concept but the expansions I bought for games always contained permanent content. It can’t be an expansion substitute unless the game grows in content.
I think if they follow his suggestions, especially about the longterm story addition, they will much improve and go from the level of grocery list to actual story. A friend suggested that they could put in books similar to the dungeon guides in gw1 and have the books let you turn the pages reading the story and replaying (or playing for the first time) the content.
I do like the content this week. I am participating. But I feel like the game is disjointed and chaotic. I see no way that this story fits in with gw2 lore. In fact at this time, I don’t even see a story here. What is the story?

I’m wondering if I should just not buy gems anymore. I see (from reading other peoples problems on the forum) that you can lose what you already purchased in the past and paid for due to paypal or your credit card messing up. I expect that it is even possible for game cards to glitch, after all nothing is completely perfect. As best I can tell, once there is some sort of problem, your account is permanently closed. You are not given recourse to pay in a different way than the one that messed you up.
I would hate to buy $20 worth of gems and have something go wrong and lose all the investment of time and money in my account.
Saying it is unlikely to happen isn’t a solution. The chance that it could happen and that an optional purchase of gems for fluff could cause me to lose my account makes it not worth it for me.
My question: is there any way to separate the purchase of new things from the gem store from your actual game account. For example, I would be willing to sign up for an option that does not deliver what you have bought UNTIL your money is in ANET’s hands. This would protect my game account and allow me to purchase the fluff items without fear. I can wait a few days or even a week or two to receive an item just to be sure that something doesn’t go wrong with my account.
This is a common confusion. I actually logged out of the character I was on and logged in on the character that I wanted to get the first skin on because on hover the skin said soulbound on acquire and you couldn’t accept the chest without acquiring the item.
However, it doesn’t work that way. It unlocks the skin forever on your account. You go to the achievement tab and then can get it for ANY character.
I’m not complaining about getting free stuff. It sucks though that my achievement points are being wasted on stuff I will never use. You can’t get the rewards back, so seems like a complete waste and doesn’t seem like much of a ‘reward’.
I’m pretty sure everyone gets the same thing in each chest. How are your points wasted? They are NOT “charging you x number of points for each reward item”. They are rewarding a chest that contains specific items.
