Agony and conditions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Khisanth.2948

The rebalancing needs to happen at the source of conditions where each class has 1 damaging condition and 2 covers max. If you’ve ever played condi Guardian, it’s probably the most balanced condi class when it comes to this. You have burning as your damage and if you spec into DH you can gain cripple and vulnerability as covers, unlike other condi classes that just look at you and you gain 5 conditions really. Though if the rumors are true, Guardian will be joining the other classes and probably kitten out conditions like no tomorrow come next expansion.

Then you run into an Ember/Fire Elemental/Destroyer and realized what a terrible mistake it was to rely only on burning. :P

The idea of cover condition is also subverted by the fact that some condi removal target specific conditions or specific types.

That change is for attempting to loot the grand and great chest multiple times in a cycle. I swapped from a failed to a successful one and still managed to get the daily bag plus one or two grand and great chests. The only reason I was limited to one or two was because there was only around 1:30 left before I swapped.

100% world completion but no gift of explorer

Khisanth.2948

It seems from the screen shots that OP has indeed done world completion. The map shows 100% and the achievement is there. He even says he got the achievement. As I read it, he’s curious about the Gift of Exploration. Correct me if I’m wrong on this.

I just finished completion on a toon this past week and, as I recall, a small “star” appeared down in the lower right hand part of the screen. Not a treasure box. You click on the star and it awards the Gift. If you didn’t see that, or didn’t click on it, perhaps CS can get you the Gift. Should be easy enough for them to see.

But to answer your basic question, no, you do not have to do anything else or talk to anyone else. Good luck.

The thing about the star instead of a chest is a good point but if that was the case it should be visible in the second screenshot.

There might also be some weird interactions resulting from the removal of WvW from world completion.

GW2 Remastered?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Khisanth.2948

Khisanth.2948

GW2 is not yet at the stage of needing nor benefiting from a new gfx engine. It is too young and still performing strongly enough as it is. The gfx and art have never really been the loudest criticism of the game.

There are other things way more important to the game (a content dump from the forthcoming expac, a wvw focus just to name 2) right now that will help it continue to compete with the other Triple A MMO’s.

I could probably benefit from a new graphics engine or I should say an improved one maybe.

Redoing all the art assets? Very doubtful.

Worst cat addition yet

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Khisanth.2948

I agree that getting the piranha to the cat can be super frustrating, but there are a few things that may make it easier:

-Clear the path to the pagoda/gong building beforehand. Not having to worry about assassins or frogs is nice.
-Every few seconds, drop the fish and hit it to pick it back up. Don’t wait for it to leap out of your hands and cause knockback. Better safe than sorry, especially on the pillar jumps. Two-three jumps, drop fish, hit, repeat. I know you mentioned this already, just reiterating it.
-Climb around the outside of the pagoda building instead of fiddling with moving around dart traps on the inside. You can interact with the cat through the wall.

It took me about an hour from the very start of the zone to get the cat. Not the most fun thing to do, but kind of fitting for a SAB-themed cat imo.

Alternatively … stand at cat, wait for your friend to bring the fish. :P

We NEED 30-40 Slot Bags

Khisanth.2948

We don’t need bigger bags, we need better inventory management. Currencies should all go in the wallet. All base and 1st tier refined crafting items should be in mat storage. That would already free up a lot of spaces in most people’s inventories. The rest is just on you

Let’s not forget a Bookcase for all those logs/journals/historical items, instead of carrying them around. Especially since every new LS3 map seems to have a journal set as a collection. I don’t mind the extra lore component, but it’s a chunk of inventory bloat that could be better managed.
Something like: 1- Complete book item/collection, 2- Right click completed Book, Send to Library. Boom, item disappears and the entry shows up in the home instance library or some kind of Lore tab.

Not sure about the BF books but the Lake Doric book can be tossed. You can get additional copies from interacting with any of the notes.

On characters with 160 slots I rarely run into issues even while carrying a lot of extra junk like 4 mini ho-ho-trons and foxfire clusters.

On characters with only 85 slots it does feel a bit cramped. Just 10 more slots and it works a lot better.

As long as there is enough space to handle the loot from the AB chests or the Bitterfrost Frontier chests I don’t have much issue. A salvage-o-matic in a shared slot helps a lot for the characters without maxed inventory.

Also, your assessment of the usual “group comp” at Vinetooth is … sadly on point. :\
What’s sadder is that a legion of bearbows actually stand a decent chance and popping Vinetooth’s bar, since he usually jumps far before starting it, and there’s a very small time window to hit with it. It’s very likely that the long-jump/short-charge combo contributes to most groups not breaking him enough to overcome his HP sponginess.

I think you are forgetting an important factor here: timing. Badly timed CC is one of the reasons those bearbows are annoying to have around.

True enough. The ones most likely to contribute to Vinetooth failure are the ones who will explode every icon on their bar for lack of anything else to do. That’s a very difficult thing to unteach to a zerg.

Blegh. I’m not looking forward to having to do a full write up and copy/paste while my apple is up. But I need that kill, so… osu, and stuff.

“Hit it as hard as you can and don’t die” is a much simpler explanation. :P

Explaining the attack where it jumps up and then lands on someone would probably be good too. If the person that is targeted runs around like a headless chicken it is much more likely to get more people downed than staying still and everyone just get out of the circle.

Do we really need a farming spot for coins?

Wouldn’t adding a clover farming spot balance the market a bit more than that of coins?
How many coins get flushed for the sole purpose of clover collecting plus clovers can’t be sold on the trading post so the people farming will be the people farming it for us not to sell. That means your not flooding any market either while reducing the demand of coins and ectos while increasing the demand on other mats because people would craft more. More coins means more crafting and more clovers means more people pushing towards their legionaries and people talking on map chat about clover uses in the farming area further spurring legend crafting.

In the end not only would clovers still have the desired effect on coins but farming clovers makes a lot more sense than farming coins because farming coins basically means your a pickpocket, murderer, and thief.

There are several guaranteed ways to get clovers already but clovers are also not the only things that require Mystic Coins. Clovers are probably the least expensive in terms of all the things that use them since most of the other stuff produced by the clover recipe can be sold.

It scales on the assumption that large groups also bring larger amounts of CC. When people ignore the mechanics, it doesn’t work.

Same thing as the guano hero point: a couple of people can do it trivially, if they do the mechanics, but bring along a third of the group just DPSing all-out and ignoring the mechanics and suddenly it’s failure city.

Ayup. Also, the HP bars are smaller with small groups. Golem Mk-II with 5-6 people drops in about 2 minutes. With a whole map on it, 5 minutes. Vinetooth probably has similar problems in that not only do players have to manage CC for much longer, they have to DPS like crazy, without falling over, to smack down his bar.

Depending on what kind of CC skill you are using you also have to pay attention to when you use them. If you use it as soon as the bar comes up there is a good chance of wasting the CC.

Khisanth.2948

I thought of one other tip: Hearts and Minds is one story instance that it is fairly easy to find a group for in LFG if you wait a few minutes. Almost everyone hates it and struggles with it; at least in a party you increase your chances of one person clearing all the bugs and hurdles to see the thing through to the end. It’s basically using other players to save your progress the way the game should. And if you don’t beat the odds you have each other for moral support.

that is debatable … had one up for a few hours once after too many run in with rocks thrown at me right after getting in to the air. The only response was from a person who apparently just started the game and didn’t even have any clue where the instance is located. They were on a level 50ish character.

so that is about as true as “I’ve never ran into any bugs”

Yassith’s is one of those second-gen, super-ultra-expensive prefixes; my understanding is it’s cheaper to make a basic ascended weapon, like Zojja’s, and then swap it in the Mystic Forge. Is this correct? If yes, what is the cheapest prefix to make before swapping away?

Viper’s is actually cheaper than Berserker’s.

Powerful blood and black diamonds are around the same price but you need 5 blood versus 5 diamonds.

The main issue with the HoT stats is fulgurite which requires obsidian, airship oil, auric dust and leyline sparks. Those items used to be a pain to obtain prior to the patch April of last year. They can be as long as you don’t have other people around scaling things up. Assuming the fight was meant to be soloable in the first place. In the case of Mordremoth during the last phase I have broken its bar solo when scaled for 3 or 4 people. Had to use Tornado but most other classes have equally “good” elites.

To a lesser extent this is why it sucks to have more people around for the wyvern at the end of the noble’s chain and the jaka itzel chain, wyvern matriarch and vinetooth prime.

I thought I read somewhere that battles don’t start scaling until a fifth person is in combat.

I would have to say it is inconsistent at best. In VB I see lv82s and elites spawning when it is just me or one other person around.

One place where the scaling is extremely noticeable is the skritt captain event in Ember Bay. If I am the only person there then I can break its bar with 1 thrown bottle. If another person shows up it requires more bottles. Sometimes other players are your worse enemy in PvE.

The problem isn’t entirely new. We noticed similar issues while trying to do Temple of Balthazar with a few people before HoT was ever mentioned. I forgot the exact numbers (though we were maybe 5 people total) but just one person more or less made a noticeable difference in how many stuff you had to deal with for the defend event in the central assault just before the escort to the temple.

You can swap between the different weapon types for 1000 unbound magic. You will also need to replace the sigil in the process so that choice isn’t majorly important unless you are going to put in an expensive sigil. Changing the type also lets you choose that stat again. In that regard they are similar to a legendary.
