Ice fractal - svanir loot nerfed?

Hey folks,

What was happening here was that some of the mobs were respawning in the dark forest area, and they were dropping loot. This meant that the spawns could be farmed continually in an instance, which is something that poses some danger.
We have the tech to turn off their loot without having to patch. Our next content patch will fix the issue with them respawning, and they will have their loot turned back on then once they can no longer be exploited by farmers.

Do you guys have the technology to do that without impacting stuff like on kill sigils and traits? This is more to do with the Personal Story aspect of things but it’s extremely annoying that both of those things stop working at a time when they would be most useful.

Interesting!

There are two items that I am interested based on the OP’s picture.

1) 10 Unidentified dies
2) Advanced Harvesting Sickle

I wonder how many uses will the sickle (and assuming the other two tools) get?

Picture shows 10 uses. Same as Black Lion Harvesting Sickles.
Assuming all green tools are equivalent in terms of their “increased efficiency”, I think they should remove those tools from things you can buy with crowns. A 25 use Foraging Sickle can be bought with 658 karma. You get 1 crown per daily so that is 3 days to get the Advanced Harvesting Sickle. In that time you also get 3 Jugs of Liquid Karma which is enough to get 20 Foraging Sickles.

Advanced Harvesting Sickles – 3 days 10 uses
Foraging Sickle – 3 days 500 uses

Even if the Advanced Harvesting Sickle was better it would have to be more than 50 times. This seems unlikely. If it was at least 50 uses then at least it can be partly justified for the space saving.

Short answer is usually a hybrid, but you also have to wonder how much is long term investment for profit and how much of it is investment against inflation. Holding liquid wealth in any economy is a mistake.

But there is an achievement that requires holding on to at least 200 gold!

I was just doing the Vigil story step that had you going into the sewers in LA earlier today. I noticed that whenever the jellyfish used their spinning charge attack they would end up inside of the walls and apparently unable to get out. Luckily for me Forgal and my pet seems to have the same abilty

My main interest in this is that it seems like it could be a similar thing with the shark skill point in Sparkfly Fen. Sharks have a similar charge attack.

I don’t play a necro, and I don’t want to, but I would like to find this weapon. I am going to try for the shadow behemoth. He seems to be the rarest boss in the game. I have spent as much as 8 hours at a time trying to get him to spawn. He hasn’t spawned on some servers for days at a time. When he does spawn, there is a chance you can’t target him. I think that qualifies him for a rare boss event, and he has a large chest. If I do find the weapon, it will be on the TP, 1000 gold.

The Shadow Behemoth is rare due to bugs not by design.

As some already mentioned:
- WvW loot bags:
Autolooted, account/soulbound lootbags are needed and a better way of handleing things

- Chatting with the enemy:
Chat wars can be harmful and hunting/griefing individual players, BUT why not allow x-server talk via “say”?
This way players can decide for themselves to give away their name to the enemy and even start face2face flameing without bothering too much other players/chat channels. And spies would be able to meet up… and can be sought out/punished by other players.

I’ve been wondering about the chat thing. I remember some pre-beta stuff mentioning that one of the reasons for having a 3 side battle was so that you could potentially have 2 of the weaker sides team up against the stronger. Obviously this would require the two sides to somehow communicate but there doesn’t seem to be any in game way to make this happen.

I think it may even be fair to eliminate farming and say active TP players have by far the most wealth. The amount of gold earned by farming or playing the game seems very linear with a blip or two thrown in due to RNG on something like a precursor. The amount of gold earned off the TP can be exponential. There are probably a substantial amount of players with 1000G+ who have never finished the final mission, got 100% world completion, or gasp hit level 80…

1) Plenty of people who do not like the story.
2) No reason reason for 100% unless you want to make a legendary. The other benefits for 100% are irrelevant if they are as rich as you claim.
3) ANet’s fault for not giving exp for trading.

The main problem that i am experiencing with the current system is that i try to socialize with people, even when i just picked up a random party to run some dungeons. If i meet friendly and competent players, i add them to the friendlist so that i can find parties more quickly in the future.
However this does not work as intended – even though the Accountname is shown in the friendlist as well, i usually remember the Charakter that this player played when i (first) met him. Thus it happened to me several times already that i was looking for some people that i met some days ago, but since they logged on on another character and i didnt check their accountname before, i was unable to find them in my friendlist!

You can do that already. Right click on a name in the contact list and set the nickname to whatever you will remember the person as.

add a list of “common achievements” like: you have completed following dungeons X times together, and first entered a party to play World vs World

Don’t care one way or the other but if the experience was truly memorable then you wouldn’t need the game to remind you of this.

How about this as a solution:

ArenaNet appears to be able to easily change where the loot bags drop on the ground. Since that was their quick and easy solution.

What if they have the loot drop at the nearest Waypoint to be picked up after you inevitably die and port to it?

That would require dying every 3 minutes or less since loot despawns in 4 minutes and there is loading time. On the other hand having all your loot deposited at an NPC that you can “pick up”(like picking up stuff from the TP) later would be nice. Could even use the same queue system as the TP and the game won’t have to render any bags!

Extra: Players from different servers can instance(PvE dungeon) together. Which will prevent players from switiching servers to PvE with their friends and will encourage people to transfer only to play WvW together with their friends. This will help preventing certain servers to turn into PvE only servers and stay competitive in WvW.

This is already possible for dungeons assuming people are in the same region(Europe/America). For open world that is basically the guesting system but they haven’t mentioned when they are enabling that.

Fix Charged Lodestones prices

They just need to add a lot more high level Lightning Elementals strewn across the surface of Tyria and the problem will take care of itself.

That wouldn’t help honestly. The drop rate is ridiculous no matter the number of mobs that can drop charged lodestones. Take a look at the TP, it’s not like there isn’t a lot to be had, but the sellers refuse to drop the price because they are so hard to get do to the new drop rate. Just like ecto’s, I haven’t gotten 3 ecto’s from a rare/exotic in a couple of months now, I usually get 1, if luck 2. Look at the price, nearly 30s ea. and the TP is chuck full of ecto’s. ANet needs to restore loot and salvages back to what they were at launch.

It would, maybe not by much. I tried killing the Air Elementals outside Arah a couple of days ago. With the number of elementals there and the spawn rate. It barely kept up with how fast I was killing them. I wear full Cleric and use a Knight’s hammer so it’s not like I was killing them at an amazing pace. That spot is supposedly a good place for Air Elementals but it is barely enough to support ONE person killing them slowly.

Finishing the personal story must be a requirement for advance in the future expansions. In GW1 you couldn’t access different things unless you finished the story. I want this feature for GW2 too.

None of the expansions required finishing the previous ones. War in Kryta and Winds of Change did but those are much smaller than an expansion.

I find the MF stacking ideas to be terrible. You are still pitting getting guaranteed rewards against an increased chance to possibly getting something decent. Additionally I am not a fan of giving people more reasons to be going into dungeons with full MF gear(if you are going to stack MF then you might as well stack it even higher).

Just add the GW1 thingy, where you could kill all mobs in an area and gain some completion if you succeeded. This could be like the FotM daily chest, only giving extra dungeon tokens and maybe even a chance of dropping a precursor or something along those lines.

So 30 minutes to clear the dungeon. Then another 10 minutes searching for that last patrol?

The other quandry that comes to mind immediately is WHY would a player be keeping gold? For a dedicated trader I would imagine money sitting is money wasted. For me, as a completionist-style player, I look forward to having 200g in my account bank once, for 1 second, ever, to trigger the availability of the Golden title and score some achievement points, but after that keeping large stocks of coin on hand is mostly superfluous to me – it’s better to get that coin turned into gear, outfit my stable of characters for maximum performance, and get back to swinging that sword or mining that ore. I might like to have a cushion on hand to be ready for new content (“Ooo, new armor skin – wantses it now!”) But for me as an adventurer-harvester, shiney yellow coins are a by-product of my gameplay, not the goal of it.

Don’t forget the cultural armors.

Infographic please John.

Can we have some proof that the 1% indeed kittens everyone over by flipping precursors and selling legendaries?

The real question here is, if the infograph would show that 90% of the money is carried by 40% of the players and the distribution is considerably better than Real Life, would you believe him or call him a liar? Because for John Smith, there’s no win scenario here.

Imagine a guy with commander, +30 AR and a legendary and all miniatures yet has 3gp to his person. One could consider him poor, yet he has a ton of wealth. Merely counting gold on a person doesn’t mean anything.

Very good point you made there. Solution would be to assign a price to every item the account holds (problem there would be the prices used – can’t use vendor prices, perhaps somekind of average of TP price + assume minimal value for bound drops, I doubt having 20 different infused rings makes you much richer than having 2 random rings ).
There’s also people with multiple accounts, idk how much work would that be to add them together and if they even represent a statistically relevant population.

I was thinking of myself when read marnick’s response. I’ve spent probably around 50gold on bank and bag slots. Am I rich, poor or just average? You can’t put a TP price on a slot. Does ANet track where your gems are from? I’ve also bought some gems using my credit card for the bank slots. What about the exchange rate at the time of purchasing gems with gold? Some bank slots cost 9gsomething while others were over 10g.

Look Ritualist lives in the guardian and engineer. But what you really want back is the Whoop-Butt SoS builds.

I’ve always run spirits, even before SOS was buffed (sure that was awesome). What I do miss is the speed to take your spirits like you could with summon spirits. Either turrets or spirit weapons, Cooldowns make both of them just not practical right now.

So you are agreeing with Captain Seyo?
Even if Ritualists return I don’t think Summon Spirits will unless ANet wants to repeat past mistakes. Overpowered PvE skills being one of them.

I don’t think the spawn rate is an issue in the majority of places. I play on an European server from the US so I usually end up soloing most things. On the other hand waiting 5 minutes per respawn when trying to kill things for a heart? No thanks. This game needs fewer things that try to waste my time not more.

Orr has too many enemies that seems to use some sort of CC as their auto attack. As if the default amount of CC on them wasn’t bad enough, the presence of certain Acolytes can give every risen in the area a chance to immobilize on hit.

Will the new update stop skipping?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Khisanth.2948

One possible solution. There are some champions that don’t drop any money but are difficult to kill. Perhaps either declassify them as champions, or have them drop money. If you had them drop money, then most probably people would not skip them as frequently.

That isn’t necessarily a good incentive. Some things are still not worth fighting. For example anything in AC that involves scavengers is on a list of things which are potentially not worth fighting.

The scavengers are either broken or broken by design. As is every other place that involves being chain CC’ed. Having enemies with CC is fine. Having enemies with extremely long knockdowns with an extremely long duration that keeps knocking down even after the initial attack is not. Then there are enemies/environments that render condition removal pretty much irrelevant because all the enemies’ auto attacks will reapply anyway. The fact that you can get knocked down/back/pushed/pull mid-dodge doesn’t help either.

Those things are not limited to dungeons but they contribute to making dungeons not fun and that is only a tiny excerpt of the full list. When there are things that are not fun but is the only source for something (weapon/armor skins) then people are going to try to minimize the time they need to spend there.

I generally prefer to kill everything in the path but I don’t feel as strongly about things where I feel the content designer has basically cheated to attain a certain difficulty/time to kill. The things mentioned above contributes to that.

Last but certainly not least, people in these sort of threads always seems to confuse skipping with exploiting. They are not the same thing. Some skipping might require using an exploit but that doesn’t make them equivalent.

I imagine you all at Arenanet have already considered/tested this, but just thought I’d throw it out as a possible solution:
Diablo III “solved” their problem with skipping by making each elite pack the player killed increase their magic find value while in that chapter (here translated to instance).
If GW2 trash mobs would slightly increase a player’s magic/gold find values during an instance, I’m sure most if not all players would take the time to kill them all off.
Since different dungeons/paths have radically different numbers of enemies to kill (AC gravelings come to mind) the values could be percentage based, i.e. : kill 50% of enemies in the dungeon and get +15% magic find, kill 100% get +30%.

At least two problems with this. Certain mobs are just completely out of the way. In CM some seem to be behind closed doors. Many paths do not have a chest at the end, for all those there is never a reason to go for 100%.

I see where you’re coming from. It would be pretty cool if the dragons would just attack random places. The only problem I see, is how would people know where they are attacking? There would have to be some notification to the player no matter where they are. There would probably be some problems with implementing this, though. They would still have to make specific areas where the dragon would land.

I still think they need to make the encounters more mobile. It’s boring sitting in one place fighting a dragon that doesn’t move. Jormag is the only dragon that moves positions causing the players to move and fight him in another area.

For the notifications they can use the global meta event notification they’ve used for Halloween/Karka/Wintersday. They dragons would probably need to land in some cases if only for variety but it doesn’t need to for every case. You could fight them in the sky in some cases.

I do agree that the dragon fights could be more interesting and less stationary. A bit of work on the scaling wouldn’t hurt either. Claw of Jormag took 1.5hours with 3 people(and 2 others that were not quite there).

What would you buy with real cash?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Khisanth.2948

Khisanth.2948

Of the things on that list the only things I would not buy are the dyes and tonics.

If the skins actually worked like GW1 costumes(meaning unlimited uses on all characters and didn’t take up extra storage to keep them around) then would buy then even at current prices. With the way they work now I am not going to buy them at ANY price. I do not like the triple cost of the item itself, storage, Fine Transmuatation Stone AND THEN there is still the inventory management overhead.

I am almost maxed out on bank expansions from a mix of buying gems with money and gold so that is mostly irrelevant. At current rates I can probably max out all bag expansions on characters that need it as well. I have 8 characters and in practice it seems only 2 of those actually need bag expansions, the rest are getting by just fine event with 8 slot bags. I probably don’t need those bag expansions if I upgrade to all 15 slot bags(20 slot bags are too much for what they provide but that is for another thread).

As mentioned above I already have 8 characters so character slots aren’t a big issue. I COULD use another 8-16 but that is mostly because I want one of each profession set up for open world, dungeon and WvW.

I don’t think dying weapons should be a gem shop item. Weapon skins are fine. Obviously if they add in dying for weapons then there should NOT be anymore weapon skins that only differ in color.

Neither banker nor trader is all that useful. Permanent merchant would be tempting but probably not.

Town cloths are a big maybe. I find the current ones unappealing and I want to see an option to auto-switch when you enter a city. They also have the same problem as the armor skins minus the transmutation stone issue. The fact that they are account bound is irrelevant.

Oh and the current prices for stuff are already cheaper than what they used to be in GW1 so that is probably I find them more acceptable.
Except the skins, GW1 had better deals for those even without GW2’s effective triple price increase from transmute/storage.

Crafting exotic armor vs TP

I did my exotics from AC, I’d recommend doing the same. Afterwords, just from that I had enough gold from rewards to buy full MF exotics. 3 paths is about an hour. do 3 paths/ day (no dim rewards) get a piece. So ~6 days you have a full set. And plenty of time to run around doing other things during those 6 days.

That is assuming the AC armor has the stat combinations that you want. Doing all 3 paths in some other dungeon could take significantly longer. On the other hand I don’t thing full exotics is a necessity.

Path of Exile has something like that but the game is more like Diablo.
There is no currency but there are items that can be used to trade for stuff so you can still have NPC vendors. The item themselves can also be used for various things. For example one of the items can be used to turn a common white item into the equivalent of a rare.

Basically as I level I find myself piling on lots of goodies for crafters and want to know whether I should be focusing on leveling a craft as I progress or learning there value and sell the goods? How important is it to mess around with crafts? Do they bring anything other then buffs and crafted items? Just a complete noobie at this point looking for some straight answers. Whether its something I can just work on when I hit max level or well worth tinkering with as I go?

Sorry if this is a repeat topic that shows up here.

Crafting gets you 3 things. Experience, potentially cheaper rares/exotics and the ability ty craft a particular Legendaries.

Pretty much all Fine and Masterwork items are going to be cheaper to buy and until you hit 400 you are not likely to make much from crafting(not entirely true depending on how much value karma and some other factors).

Edit: Oh and if you are selling don’t forget to factor in both the listing fee(5%). The projected profit shown on the Trading Post window only factors in the 10% tax.

Things that increase movement speed do not stack. Whichever is highest is the one that is applied. Using One with Air and the Signet of Air is still only going to give you 25% speed increase, not 50%.

The error is in the tooltip for Signet of Air’s passive effect. The same error is on necromaners’ Signet of Locust and rangers’ Signet of the Hunt.

a ok :/ i planted the charges on the lower deck (it let me put them any where) on the mid deck then i ran around the ship for abit and i was not promted to do anything else then when on you tube to find out what to do next. I didn’t see the trip wire you speak of but i ran up both stair cases from the bottom deck to the mid deck.

I decided to run to the tower becuase like i said nothing promted me and the asura (in the bomb suite) said we need to get to a higher level canr remeber he exact words.
Thanks ben

The tripwire is not literal. Basically you have to run back up the same stairs you used to go down, assuming you went down using the stairs that were closest to the plank from the other ship.

Maybe they can add another tripwire to the other stair as well. I ran into this as a result of using a mesmer portal to speed things up but luckily I remembered where the update triggered the last time I did that story step.

I experience this as well but it is inconsistent and it would sometimes land at a position other than where I aimed.
