While I don’t think they need a new recipe, I do think its strange to require mithril and elder wood both to craft the curio and then to also use the curio to craft the shard of ______ for whatever weapon you want. Its weird to double up on mithril/elder wood like that imo

My assumption is so that it maintains a high price for the legendaries but also a material that can easily be farmed and/or obtained naturally by playing the game.

Not quite what I meant, Khisanth got it though I think.

Why split the mithril and elder wood into 2 recipes? Why not just have 1 recipe require them in higher amounts, and remove them from the other?

As it stands now, you can bypass needing stacks and stacks of mithril and elder wood by buying teh curios off the TP, but then you turn around and still need stacks and stacks to craft the shards. Why not have the entire mithril/elder wood cost in the shards? Or have the entire mithril/elder wood cost in the curios so that you could not require any stacks of elder wood/mithril in your inventory to craft your shards? I just don’t like how its split up into 2 recipes like this.

Might be to help stabilize the market.

In the period between releases it helps to keep the materials from dropping too low by having people buy them to craft curios while materials are cheap. When a new weapon is released those previously crafted curios help to restrain the spike in demand by offering a buffer. The prices would still rise but not as much. The people doing it would make a nice profit which serves as motivation for them to keep doing it.

Now you could argue that the can could be done with just one recipe as well but I think there are more people willing to hold on to a few hundred curios than people who are willing to hold on to tends of thousands of ingots, planks and t5s.

Legendary Trinkets Collections

I’ve yet to see any evidence that the items dropped by the bosses are bugged tho. Those are guaranteed drops if you meet the requirements, which admittedly aren’t always clear. In every case that someone has claimed ‘bug’, it’s turned out to fit into one of the known special cases, e.g. Hablion’s drop won’t happen unless you participate in the first phase, when he’s health is above 50% and you can only get one of Ignis or Aestus hearts on the same idea.

It doesn’t have that requirement or it is significantly lower. I just killed Ignis yesterday then when over to Aestus which was at around 20%. Got both items in a single cycle.

Not sure if it comes from the corpse or the chest. If it comes from the corpse then there can be an additional problem. If you are too far away when a mob dies it doesn’t any loot. This includes stuff that are normally guaranteed such as champ bags from a champ.

It’s not really all that strange. They wanted the shards to cost a certain amount of elder wood and mithril. If you are making both yourself the total would have been the same no matter how they decided to split them between the two recipes.

The more interesting question would be why is it split into two recipes …

There are massive amounts of mithrils nodes all over the place not to mention all the mithril from salvaging armors and weapon …

As for elder wood, I guess there is always pagga’s and prices should be back to previous prices in a week or two anyway.

Well I’m not quite older than the internet but I am old enough to remember it being a ridiculous pipe-dream a few universities wanted to set up with clearly minimal applications beyond saving them a bit of money on postage when they wanted to share documents.

I don’t think I ever encountered this type of puzzle outside of video games. Same with the Tower of Hanoi, and that one with the fox, chicken and bag of grain you have to get across the river (or the 1001 variants) and most other things I now get to encounter in training workshops where they act like it’s some kind of revelation that will change your life once you “really” understand it. Telling them it was in some silly game about fighting goblins 15 years ago really kills their enthusiasm.

For a workshop making fried chicken should be a valid answer to encourage thinking outside the box … :p

I know the story is squiffy, but fitting Abaddon or Shiro in is beyond stretching it now.

He was the god of secrets, it wouldn’t be very surprising if he has more than a few.

The most garbage fight created up to date. Like what were they thinking? Development inside a box with no play testers…

Agree. Got so frustrated using my main (Ranger) I just forced quit out to take a break. Come back to try again and it’s the same old garbage, start from the beginning , redo previous test, can’t skip cut scenes. Guess I’ll grab my warrior or just forget about it for a while. Hope the exp doesn’t continue with this.

It’s one of the easiest fights in the game. Interact with the NPCs to gain a special action ability, then simply kill it. Ignoring that mechanic and brute forcing it is the optional achievement.

Without any idea you can even interact with the npcs, its the most garbage encounter ingame.

I wouldn’t go that far but slowing things down to a snail’s pace has to be one of the worst design choices for trying to come up with a challenge.

I saw Livia using Fragility in the story insances. That’s an old Guild Wars 1 mesmer hex, which is interesting because she’s dressed like a guardian, casting mesmer spells, while was originally a necromancer. She’s just that pro.

Got to remember GW1 armor wasn’t weight based and prof wise you could run two at a time.

GW1 armor was profession specific but in both games it is just a game mechanic thing. AFAIK GW lore doesn’t have anything like specific types of armor interfering with spell casting as might be the case in other settings.

Enjoy the thread now, because it won’t be long before we get dozens of posts saying “I figured it out in 3 minutes because I’m amazing!” Followed by chastising remarks about hand holding.

Generally, though, this games community is helpful and it’s awesome.

Look at the hyperbole and whining some of the responses are in this thread and then ask yourself why there are any sort of ‘chastising remarks about hand holding’…

Dont’ see the connection.

Some few, vocal people want to act like this fight (which isn’t hard if you engage your brain ever so slightly… hard for some people, I know…) is the end of the world, ruining their lives and making them want to contemplate suicide… when its just a dang game. And not even that hard of a game either.
When you come off as /that/ whiny and over-entitled over something this trivial (and it is trivial…) then yes… people are going to respond with sarcasm.

But hey! If people just want all these fights to become ultra-boring ‘Press-the-big-butten-here-to-win’ kind of snooze-fests, then all the more power to them, I suppose…
I’ll laugh when the forums become full of ’I’m bored! This game sucks!’ kind of posts… likely from the very same people.

The fight is already like that if you speak with the NPC and use the new ability.

What a lot of people are complaining about is going for the other achievement that requires you not to speak to the NPC. This makes the fight much more difficult because of the very long cooldowns and need to endure through the enemy’s attacks. Currently the only way people have found to do this is either with minions/turrets/clones doing the damage or setting yourself up with very high sustain (e.g. warriors healing signet) and just whittle away at the health bar.

The problem with the above is that it excludes some classes. Now, if there was a reliable way to avoid the debuff, as dodging doesn’t appear to be working, then there wouldn’t be an issue.

I just did it with a condi necro.

Break -> apply condi
Run around until the bar is breakable a gain
repeat

I made the mistake of using the shout heal as well which was probably not the best choice but it was successful anyway so I guess it didn’t matter that much.

Edit: also had Epidemic so that is two wrong skills … >_>

So how do I get to spawn the Icebrood Quaggan Champion? The event where the Svanir kidnap the little quaggan needs to fail, so it can become the champ, but people just play the game and do the event. Asking them to let the event fail doesn’t help, either they speak no English or they don’t give a kitten.

What am I supposed to do? Get online in the middle of the night, wait for the new episode to launch today so people are less likely to be in that zone? Is that how the designer envisioned this step in the HOPE quest?

I don’t get it really, and waiting for the event and then watching someone kill the few Svanir kidnappers in the last 10 seconds of the event is just enraging.

Here’s a tip Anet: don’t require events to fail to do a quest. It causes anger, trolling and a feeling of wasted time.

Champion Icebrood Quaggans can also spawn during Claw of Jormag and the torch defense events in Bitterfrost Frontier

Quick question about level scaling in PVE

in Players Helping Players

Khisanth.2948

If you still have the old gear you can just compare the stat values in the hero panel.

Something to keep in mind is that mobs can also scale up. There are also a couple areas in the game with very bad level transition. Take a step in the wrong direction and suddenly enemies become several levels above you which will simultaneously reduce the damage you do to them AND increase the damage they do to you.

[…]
I don’t see the need to change this when players can either join those squads or create their own and use the LFG. If there’s so many players that do this every cycle, it shouldn’t be a problem to fill your map.

Btw, I didn’t suggest to change the current behaviour. I was merely suggesting that commanders can improve the current situation by taking their squad to another map if half of them can’t join the current one. Which was the original topic of this thread: people being stranded on non-organized maps when there would be plenty to fill another one.

It works well every time for me and leaves less people frustrated. Hopefully.

That doesn’t make sense either. If they did that now you have a map that has an empty lane. The people who can’t get in should form a separate squad in another instance.

What should happen is that when a map is full people remove their ad from the LFG.

If anything needs fixing it would be a situation where there are two groups of people in two different instances(you can extrapolate this to any number of groups and instance combinations) which does have enough people but when combined they would be enough. How do you get those groups to become aware of each other’s existence and to merge them into one instance?

It was a bit jarring for the male Charr PC, but the sound team did a very believable job sometime after the first episode or two the switch was made. I was pretty impressed.

Now if they would fix the writing, dialog options, and let me punch Braham in the face, that’d mean a bit more. >.>

Nowhere as jarring as the charr NPC that repairs the wall in Silverwastes …

The asuran arc is about the little asuran girl and her mentor arguing all teh friggin time. There isn’t any need to add a new progenitor or whatever like zojja when u alrdy have one in the mix.

That event with Dawkurra can also spawn them. Use range attacks and stay to the sides of you are not able to melee it.

There is also one that sometimes appears near the north gate. It can be up at the same time as the mordrem events so it shouldn’t be the one left over from Dawkurra. That one is obviously much easier since armors can easily break its bar.

Difficulty

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Khisanth.2948

Khisanth.2948

Also for WvW please reduce the size of commander squads so we can have actual pvp instead of 50ppl following a diamond literally not doing anything else but following that diamond. If there were small groups there would be more activity across the board more points of interest thus a more fun and warlike feeling instead of a giant train running around the map there should be multiple fronts of war not just 1 of them.

Not everyone around a commander is in a squad. Shrinking the size of a squad isn’t going to have a significant impact on the size of blobs. The reward systems encourage blobbing over other things.

Some abilities with huge tells and a good window for avoidance can certainly be made absolutely deadly, but regular attacks do not.

On the other hand we have tendril roots that can one shot with a slight wiggle. The main tendril doesn’t even have anything like that.

The condi version of Soldier is Dire … so just use the right stat instead.

I have reasonable doubts a set without Power stats will be good, once you need to leave Fire attunement. You could use D/WH, Sigils of Smoldering and Bursting and try to stay in Fire, but once you swap out into something else you damage will drop significantly (and you have no Healing Power or Boon duration to recover). Ele needs a baseline of Power (IMHO) or some of its main attack skills hit like a wet noodle.

Condi beats Power at least according to the benchmarks http://qtfy.eu/benchmarks/

That is for top end damage. When scaled down they shouldn’t be much different even in the worst case scenario.

I have also tested my elementalist with condi gear. Despite having the wrong runes and sigils(borrowed gear from my necro) the damage output was still comparable to the power gear with more appropriate runes and sigils. That was for general running around in HoT.
