She has an unbreakable Defiance Bar so stun isn’t going to do much.

The high damage wouldn’t be so bad if not for the additional attack speed as the fight goes on.

On my 12+ runs the adds always respawned so I am not sure where someone got the idea that they did not. Maybe they were referring to a different fight. After the first couple runs it became obvious that fighting anything besides Adrienne was a waste of time.

Losing my guildies due to HoT XP/MP demands

Well, if the LW3 maps are in fact accessible without having played the story, that definitely changes things. I interpreted what the wiki called ‘unlocked’ meaning ‘played’, probably because I couldn’t get into Bitterfrost Frontier myself until I entered it as part of the story. If TP to friend does allow people to get into LW3 (while having the episode and HoT, but not having played any LW3 yet), then we can do those maps together.

Unlocked is the same as owning it.

The thing is, when you don’t have much time, taking the long way around isn’t great. The Golem HP on AB can’t be reached with just Updrafts and Bouncing Mushrooms, for example. (At least not according to the wiki.) I’ve been trying to find ways to put in effort on my side to find the right way to play together, but the frustration is already there with my guildies. Since I just enjoy messing around, I gather XP slowly, but for those who do not have time to mess around, the lack of progress at the end of the evening is frustrating. I’m not saying they expect to get a new mastery every three hours, but seeing the bar go from start to maybe a fifth in can be terribly frustrating if you know you the next time you play will be two weeks from now for the same amount of time, especially if you also want to things that don’t give you HoT XP.

Golem can be reached with just lean techniques. I’ve had leyline gliding for ages but I never use it to get there because that leyline is so unreliable. There is a branch you can glide to for recharging endurance and to get up slightly higher. I think it is covered in the dulfy guide.

As for the rest … don’t go tripping over pebbles on the road because you are too busy trying to stare over the horizon.

However, some more of these tips are very useful. Like I said, I do it all slowly, so I don’t really noticed where the real XP is to be had that is fun to get too. I know about the HP, but moving around slowly on the map does make those less attractive, since they aren’t in very easy to reach places. If you don’t have the closest WP, it can take forever. The adventures are a good tip though (they tend to be close to WPs, and we should put some effort into getting those, like on any other map), so thanks all who suggested that!

Adventures are very much a hit or miss if you look around the forum/reddit threads. They are great if the person happens to like them but pushing them onto people who do not like it will probably end very poorly. Some also have mastery requirements, either implicit or explicit. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/Guide-Adventures-Silver-Gold-and-beyond/first has both written and video guide on all of them.

I think it would be nice if gliding masteries took less XP. It’s not needed for crafting legendaries, but it does make HoT so much more enjoyable. It’s ironic: the grindiness is meant to make people play the maps more, but it’s only driving some people away. Now that I have finished most masteries (especially gliding), I enjoy my time on the HoT maps much more, so I’m more likely to be in AB, TD or DS. Constantly running into something you can’t do is not fun, IMO. Getting to ‘FINALLY’ use that leyline that I already knew was there for forever was far less exciting than discovering leylines for the first time in LW3 when I already knew I could use them.

Leyline gliding is also unexciting because much like the other higher tier masteries they are borderline worthless. That is also another not to be overly concerned about getting all the masteries. Many of the high tier masteries are not very useful things. In the case of Exalted Lore it’s not even worth going further than 2.

I think a lot of it has to do with understanding the mechanics of what you’re up against. It’s true, using gear with more toughness and vitality will give you more time to react to your enemy, but it also means that it takes longer to finish them off. This is a good way to take time to learn the mechanics of enemies that you struggle with, along with taking traits and utility skills aimed more toward survival, though. Then you can ease your way into more offensive builds once you’re comfortable fighting whatever you’re up against.

I know it’s a bit of a vague answer but if you need more help or have any questions then feel free to message me in-game too. Good luck!

There is also the need to properly prioritize what to kill first.

Losing my guildies due to HoT XP/MP demands

I love GW2. I love it even more when I play with my guildies. But playing with my guildies has become problematic, because we do not share the same HoT masteries. I’ve grinded to get nearly all masteries completed, but I also have guildies who just do not have the time to play enough to earn even close to that kind of XP. (To illustrate just how little time they have: one of them runs permanently with a birthday booster on. He has only three characters.) This results in them barely having Updrafts and Bouncing Mushrooms. One has more progress in the Itzel tree, another in the Gliding tree, a third in… well, you get the picture. This significantly limits our chances to enjoy the HoT maps together; several HP are just not reachable for at least one of us and map navigation on the new maps is cool if you have the masteries, but terribly confusing or even a drag if you do not. (Everyone remembers how problematic gliding could be in VB before they had Updrafts, right? Especially if you’re trying to play in a party. Or how bothersome it was to walk around a cliff instead of using Bouncing Mushrooms…)

With 3 characters parked at the VB flax farm you can get enough exp for Gliding, Updrafts and Bouncing Mushrooms in 2.5 month. That would just take around 5 minutes a day.

I myself took a long break after Wintersday because I got tired from how long it took to get my HoT XP. LW3 helped me a lot to get more XP faster. (It’s also great how little XP it costs to master the new ways of movement compared to in HoT.) I’d love to show these new maps to my guildies, but I cannot until they have completed the story episodes. They all have the episodes unlocked, but as long as they have not played the story, they cannot join me there.

If they have the episodes unlocked they can use a teleport to friend. Except Bitterfrost Frontier. For that they can just walk in through the portal.

I’m not sure what the solution is, but the problem is how complex navigation on the HoT maps is without the appropriate masteries, and to a lesser extend the limited access to the LW3 maps. If Tomes of Knowledge could be used to gain some HoT XP, this problem would be a lot smaller already, since most of my friends have played enough GW2 before HoT to have earned at least a 100 of them each.

At least 90% of both the Jaka Itzel and Pale Reavers event chain can be done with nothing more than walking. The Itzel hunting events also repeat very frequently.

Completely either chain is a minimum of over 100,000 exp.

I don’t understand the issue. It’s a skin that some people covet. Why does every skin in the game need to be affordable for everyone? I like that I have to carefully consider my budget in deciding which skins I prefer; it makes my choices more important.

Price aside, right now there are 2 available for sale, while there are 974 buy offers up. That’s 2 orders of magnitude (nearly) more buy offers than there are scythes available. Clearly demand, while still fairly low, is far far higher than the available supply. Thus its not unreasonable for someone to request a new way to obtain the skin.

Well that is just simple economics for you, which tends to hold more so for limited available items.

If it was an essential item that was not available aside from a high gold/gem from the tp, then I would agree they need a way to find another way. However this is just a weapon skin (not going to kill you if you don’t have it) and if you want it you gotta pay it’s current value.

In terms of real world equivalent, say I want a 1962 Aston Martin DB4 Zagato which went for $14,300,000 usd. Would I like it, yes, will it kill me if I don’t, no. Am I going to go to Aston Martin and demand that they make another way/lowering the cost of this limited available car, again no.

Again, price was irrelevant to my comment. Sooner or later those skins will be sold, though imo they will sell for less than what they are listed at. Then you have yet another skin that is no longer available to newer players for no good reason. Anet has already introduced other older skins, I don’t see what’s so wrong with someone asking for them to introduce a new way to earn this one as well

They are rare but not completely unavailable

Rare item/skin = More Gold, simple.

There is no “paywall” since that is just what the skin is valued at the moment due to supply and demand. Not to mention it’s 6k in game currency and not gems and therefore set by players (again supply and demand).

If in game currency is a “paywall” then you can say that for everything on the tp or any high price stuff you craft.

So if you really want an item you have to save you gold, you can’t expect players/Anet to accommodate the fact you can’t save or grind.

I would have that 6k in gold myself by now if I didn’t craft a bunch of ascended armors/weapons for my characters, let along going to go craft legendary stuff.

I’m still holding onto the holographic wings from living world season 1, currently it’s not worth too much ~200 gold on tp. However in the future I imagine the price going up, as more people bind them their accounts and lowering the supply. As it’s not available to get anymore via the event.

Who knows if the price rises much or it could also potentially drop, I’m not a psychic but I can make some educated guesses and “if” at some point it reached something like 6k in gold, are you saying I should be penalized because someone wants it but doesn’t want to pay said amount for the limited available item?

That one is probably never going to reach that level.

1) it’s price is capped by the price of Zhaitaffy. While not being supplied in huge quantities it is supplied by the ascended material gobblers.
2) plenty of wings in the game already
3) probably more wings will be added via the gemstore

1) 4) Do you move during combat? Not just avoiding red circles but to avoid attacks and kite enemies. That also makes a huge difference. It is possible for some characters to survive in some situations while just standing in 1 spot, but it’s relatively rare compared to other games. (Don’t forget you can move while attacking too, so it’s not like you have to stop what you’re doing to avoid enemies.)

I think this is a really important one. Hitting from the back or sides is supposed to do more damage (not sure if it does), but it keeps you out of the way of most of their attacks. When kiting make sure you pay attention to skills that plant you. In melee this is even more important. There’s an option called “Melee Attack Assist”, when it’s enabled it prevents you from walking through your enemy. I have this disabled so I can dodge through them right before an attack and immediately hit them from behind.

Hitting from the side or back only matters for specific skills and/or trait combinations. It was like that in GW1. In the case of being attacked the only thing I can think of is mordrem wolves who will do more damage to you from behind.

Well how prepared is the party?

I just checked the wiki and dulfy. I don’t think either stress the usefulness of the Adrenal Mushrooms or importance of the breakbar enough. Ideally you break garm, kill it, use the mushroom to recharge your break skills while Eir runs over to garm, break her, repeat until dead. As for avoiding the flame the each person to stick to a separate area and move like in the green line in the picture. Nobody is going to move exactly like that of course but the idea is to be able to run to avoid the flames while not having to intersect with anyone else. The attack also doesn’t last so long that you would make it to the center if you are making tight turns.

Depending on what issues you are running into you might want to look at which food would help the most. For example you can have more endurance regen or just reduced damage to you.

I just start that and go read a book. The NPCs will clear it eventually … until they get the spiders then you need to nudge them along.

The svanir brutes(might be the wrong name) just have a ridiculous attack though. It’s pretty much a dodge or die if you are fighting close enough to be in range of all the projectiles from it but it has a very short tell. That one is more of a poor mob design than ‘ele needs more survivability’.

weapon sigils...whats the best?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Khisanth.2948

Khisanth.2948

There is no best sigil.

Sigils are directly connected to your build and which game mode you are playing in.

If there is maybe a close to must use sigil it might be Superior Sigil of Force on most pve builds.

Price of Sigils is not only dictated by demand but also supply. Some of the very expensive sigils on the TP just have a very low supply, thus they are very expensive even though they are not that useful.

As far as overall pve open world, it doesn’t matter what you use. I’d probably place Superior Sigil of Energey quite high simply because it’s 1 extra dodge every 10 seconds thus making survival a tad easier. It’s certainly not must use though.

Are you using condition damage? Which class are you playing? Torment isn’t usually a first pick as far as sigils go unless you have a coockie cutter build for it.

That really reinforce the “directly connected to your build” since a thief could also use that extra dodge for more damage as well.

In other instances, with the classic example being the poison mist produced by the plant enemies in The Silverwastes, running into or passing through this mist automatically deploys weapons and acts to (a) irritate the hell out of me and (b) slow me down considerably – it accomplishes nothing and frankly causes more harm to my gameplay than good. Worse, when it happens all I can do is attempt repeatedly to re-stow weapons only to have them pop out once again. Sadly the only cure for this is to walk around unarmed, but even then the unarmed avatar automatically adopts that ‘ready for combat’ pose.

Anything that deals damage to you is going to put you into combat which will also reduce your movement speed.

Khisanth.2948

These aren’t really new.

There are several bugs in this map for the past few weeks

Teku Nuhoch Outpost:
- Larvae population won’t increase, Its stuck at 75% mostly
- Taking beetles on chak patrol will get stuck at the 2nd location. Mostly because some chak gets stuck in a wall where we can’t reach it, or the kill counter breaks and the Nuhoch & beetles won’t move anymore

Both of those have been like that since forever.
Neither is truely broken.

For the larvae you have to kill the chak fast enough and heal the grubs.

For the patrol part you basically have to run around the whole cavern and cleanse the area of chak. The mobs are being spawned in the wrong area. I just went through that situation twice today.

SCAR Outpost:
- When Sonic Resonators broken, they can’t be repaired and Shrael gets stuck in a walking loop and won’t be repairing them ( Yes i know he has a salty nature but come on. )

Another long standing bug. Heard some people claim that it is triggered by aggroing the moas and … something.

Rata Novus: Chak gerent event.
- Extremely high ping in only that lane? Last time I was there my entire squad was unable to pick up any ley-line-energies because of input lag they kept moving over them instead of standing, picking up, and throwing.

Either the DDoS thing or just the usual “server having problems dealing with the amount of skills being used at the same time” thing.

Map closing at full squad:
During my afternoon of encountering all the above bugs, we also had to move map once when we had a squad with 47 people in them, and suddenly we got the message that the map was closing within 10 minutes. Kinda weird when the map is also almost full.

47 is an almost full squad but not an almost full map. There is also then thing where a map’s “closing” status cannot be reversed.

The dye packs already impact the price of dyes – the most expensive dyes you can get from the packs always crash in price shortly after a pack is released. But I suppose making them un-tradable limits the impact to those specific dyes – it stops people selling them and making a pile of gold from their birthday gift.

Shouldn’t be selling your birthday gifts anyway. Maybe just drop some strong hints to just go with a gift card next time instead?

On the high end an event can give 10 crowbars while the cargos can give more than 40 that is a total of 400 from one event versus 400 from an hour.

Also the most expensive thing costing crystalline ore is 250. The cheapest you can buy the recipe sheets is 325 and that requires tier 6.

As others have said, the likely reason why we haven’t had alternative methods of acquiring Crystalline Ore is because ANet needs a hook to keep people coming back to Dragon’s Stand. (This problem will only become more acute when the next expansion is released.) It’s similar to how people keep coming back to Dry Top because it’s the game’s only source of Quartz (aside from the HI node).

I’m curious about why moving their offices from Seattle to Texas or New York is included in the list. What benefit would that provide?

How does it outweigh the disruption of requiring employees to relocate hundreds of miles away, or leave the company and be replaced?

and then we can take a look at what happened when another company did that -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/38_Studios

I don’t see any connection with Kurt Schilling’s failed gaming company. 38 Studios spent money faster than they earned it. They did cross state lines, but moved less than 70 miles, not that much more than moving from Seattle/Bellevue to Tacoma Washington, which is a far cry from moving from the West Coast to Texas.

And sure, the reason they moved out of Massachusetts was that they got very favorable terms from Rhode Island on a US$75 mil loan, but there’s little indication that they wouldn’t have gone bankrupt anyhow. Even with someone writing personal checks to cover the loan, they still couldn’t meet payroll.

That’s not to say that there’s any use in a kickstarter to try to get ArenaNet to move to a less DDoS’d area; it’s just not a good example of a company that could have succeeded and failed because of a poorly-executed move.

A company of ANet’s size would either have to pay for their employees’ move(assuming they are even willing to) or they ditch most of the employees. I am sure losing a huge chunk of money or number of employees would do wonders for any company.

I’ve forgotten about it since I’ve stopped using grenades but I used to interrupt Grenade Barrage on engi from using the other grenade skills as well. It could also be a result of how skill queuing is handled for specific skills.

Actually the annoying part is that leashing doesn’t actually break combat. Either choose to fight me or don’t, not both. Additionally this can cause the mob to rubberband.

People like the idea that there’s some stuff that you can’t just get with a big wallet (whether RL or in-game) and others dislike the idea that most of the stuff we get from dedication to the game is available via multiple sources.

I guess it is true that a big wallet alone wouldn’t be enough since you would also have to be someone who is willing to pay ridiculous prices for things.

If your wallet is big enough, then the definition of “ridiculous” changes. I know people who can’t afford to buy coffee, let alone pay 5 bucks for a blended drink at Starbucks and others who can’t seem to make it through the day without it. If people are willing to pay, it’s not ridiculous to them.

Regardless, that’s besides the point I was attempting to make — it can’t be a special reward if there are multiple ways to acquire it. And that’s sufficient reason that some things are exclusive to birthdays or to BL chests or to whatever.

Making anything obtainable from BL chest means it CAN be obtained by throwing money at it. Your post is its own counterargument which makes things very confusing.

This is not perfectly on point vis a vis the WvW bonus to PvE. But it does point out the concept that if you use something long enough with no one barring you, you gain the right to rely on the availability of that something. So for those who relied on that gathering bonus to boost their mats, I can see their feeling that something’s been taken away from them.

On the other hand it has been getting mostly taken away on a weekly basis since the game’s launch.
