Did anyone even see the thief? from the video he was either in perma stealth or culled out or not rendered by you client due to your settings.

If in deed he is in perma stealth that is just kitten how can you fight or target something you can’t see further more how is that balanced? sure i can see tell tales of stealth application but he is long gone from that spot rather quickly.

Your point? Was he going to backstab one shot the gate? It’s not like the thief is drawing a battle marker, he’s just being a nuisance.

I see so much “OMG LOOK @ PERMA STEALTH” but I never see “OMG look…he didn’t do a single thing to anyone nor can he!” Yes it can be bloody annoying but really, what’s he gonna do in there? Port players in? Gank every character as they get out? Solo the entire keep? Kill all your outter wall siege? No. All he’s doing is kitten ing you off and guess what, people let him.

Yep it always comes down to this, 90% of thief kitten and moan threads all stink of: “I am kitten ed that I cannot kill this guy, even though killing him does nothing but satisfy my need to kill him”. The thief isnt gonna port people in, so unless there is a mesmer just leave the thief, and do not allow him to troll you.

Last night, in EB one server had SM walls down. I ran in on my thief just to get some intel for my server, as we neither owned SM nor had taken the wall down. I was laughing my kitten off the whole time as the defending server sent 3-4 of the 20 defending the breach after me. 2 minutes later 3-4 turned into 5-6, 10 minutes after that 10-12, etc…..

Eventually they had enough chasing me that the server that actually downed the wall in the first place was able to at least push in, because the “defenders” left their post to chase “one annoying thief”…

Thieves are one of the squishiest classes with one of the lowest HP pools, I have always seen stealth as the only thing that saves them as a class.

They are squishy because that’s how nearly all thieves are built – by choice. There was a very good thief who posted videos explaining a regen thief who had great sustain. He was not squishy at all.

So many thieves out there are zerker built, and just spam ‘2’ to win. Rarely do you come across a good one that is crafty and plays well. Most the time they charge in hit their 1shot combo+ heartseeker spam, if it fails they stealth again and run (teleport) away. Good thieves outplay their opponents and not rely on insane burst to win.

Mine has 3k armor, and does excellent damage all things considered. I build my thief (and all classes for that matter) for balance.

I find it boring to go full-on 12k crit zerker and skulk around looking for stragglers, I typically have minimum 2700 armor on any character I take into WvW. Over 3k on all of my heavy armor toons.

While I’ve been one of those mesmers that has abused the thief/mesmer combo, A LOT, I’ll say I think the big issue with this is that there are many things (besides walls) that you can stealth off of (heck there’s even the random outcropping bridge thing that does NOTHING in one of the spawn towers). The problem is they can stealth off of things which technically take no ‘damage’, which i think should be changed. I’ve seen thieves able to sit in stealth in a corner on a tiny breakable wall (I’m staring at you random tiny wall piece on south bay!), and then the moment they see someone coming, they just jump down to, for instance, the water gate walls in bay, etc. Since you don’t get knocked out of stealth if you take damage, they can easily move around. It’s not as much as an issue in keeps, where thieves mostly stay in the outer, and if there’s not mesmers, then they can’t do much. The issue I think is in towers, where unless you lay an AoE trap or something similar on every inch of wall, door, stair, etc, it’s very easy to miss a thief.

I personally think they should change it so you can only get stealth off of things you COULD damage as a thief. This wouldn’t affect the play on the field, it would only cut down on people stealthing off of walls, which is a really silly mechanic. People say “well if you chase a thief for 20 minutes, you’ve been trolled”, which is applicable in the field, but now think of that thief in your keep. You basically HAVE to chase him around. Even using my mesmer stealths I’ve kept 5 people in Bay chasing me for over 10 minutes until they brought a zerg on my head. (stealth, stealth, portal back somewhere, stealth, stealth, repeat), and I can’t even stealth off walls or gates or other people!

Personally I have no problem with any of that other than the ability to stealth off of a wall target. It is really just another layer of the game that is unique to two classes, I mean every class has something they do well. They might not all translate well to WvW, which I think is a problem for some people.

I think the thing that doesn’t bother me about it is that generally speaking for the scenario to work, you need 3 things:

Good Mesmer
Good Thief
Zerg/server willing to listen and organize to the portal

With that being said I have seen portal recaps fail more times than succeed. The times I have seen them succeed it was guild groups, or it was a situation where two portals or two mesmers were needed because the PUGs have no clue what is going on, as they don’t read chat.

The point was essentially: for what thieves gain in mobility, and damage (to an extent) they also lose in toughness/vitality (IE: If you hit them you do considerable damage).

So, to put it short…just like every other class in game

So no…..Not just like every other class, you have to sacrifice one for the other (to some extent) if you want to maintain the kind of DPS that a thief is accustomed to.

You are just clueless if you think so. Roll a real thief build and see how squishy you actually are xD. (If you are, you just suck :P)

Hey troll back to your cave, most would agree thieves are squishy….I have 3k armor on mine, and while it is tanky, it does not always seem as though I have 3k armor.

nor is it the intention of the WvW creators, who have spent much time crafting a balance between a fun and challenging experience.

For the most part I agree with you, but from what I remember back when Portals were the hotbutton kitten of the day on the forums, the devs said they were working as intended when applied to portaling people in closed keeps.

highly annoying… perhaps it is to prevent from stacking specific stats, or force players trial & error their way spending boat loads of gold to balance their gear… Regardless this should be looked at again =/

Ive kinda thought this in the past, or rather I have thought it is their way of pushing you to build (for instance):

All knights gear (pow/prec/tough) and soldiers trinkets (pow/tough/vital), at least that is the way I build, one side on armor the other on trinkets assuming this is the line(s) I am looking to build.

As someone who plays every class, and sometimes loses to thieves, I still will never understand why people are so kittening hung-up on stealth.

Thieves are one of the squishiest classes with one of the lowest HP pools, I have always seen stealth as the only thing that saves them as a class.

I do see what the OP is saying about the fatigue thing, that is an interesting idea as c/d and/or D/P thieves can be annoying…But I find 9 times out of 10 people are just unwilling to walk away from a fight, if I see a perma-stealth thief I try to kill it, then if I don’t I usually just walk away.

Every once in a while there is one holed up in a keep or tower, and that is a pain but not impossible to stop….People in general just need to stop coming on here trying to get every class nerfed to hell just because they don’t like countering them.

Learn to walk away from a fight every once in a while, and let the noob perma-stealth thieves do what they are good at (being useless in general). If you chase them for 20 minutes, then you have allowed them to troll you to hell.

OP isn’t talking bout fighting thieves, He is talking bout a group staying behind, stealth, after losing a tower, staying stealthed for 5 minutes and then reflipping it WITHOUT breaking down a wall/door. Completely different.

Sounds like he is talking about thieves in fights to me, at least in that regard.

Bravo to a well organized group of a thieves I would say, and for shame for not getting
together enough people to sweep the objective. My server has been guilty of shoddy sweep jobs, and we lost those objectives.

We have also stopped many mesmer/thief combos because during those times we were more than willing to devote 20+ people to sweeping them out. Granted it can be frustrating but just because you don’t see them doesn’t mean they aren’t taking dmg.

If you zerg an objective with 30+ people and leave it to be swept by 2-5 randoms that stay behind you can rest assured you will lose it if there is a thief/mesmer combo, that can organize the enemy for the portal.

One time this company made a game with all the same class, same skills, same traits….It never made it out of testing because players just couldnt come to grips with the fact that they were not as good as they thought they were.

I say that jokingly, because it is painfully obvious that people think that class “A” in player “A’s” control should always be able to beat class “B” in player “B’s” control. The variables always come down to: some classes simply aren’t good at beating other classes, and in the end nothing is effective with a poor player controlling it.

Anet already had to nerf two skills (confusion/retaliation) that do absolutely nothing unless you are too stupid to stop attacking. Thieves are hard to catch? They can stealth too much? They also have (one) of the lowest HP pools, and also are one of the squishiest classes.

Also in the original video, why did you need to catch the thief anyway? Was there a mesmer? I mean what damage is a thief gonna do in a keep/SM by himself?

TL/DR: Most thieves like this are trolling you, and the longer you chase them the longer you allow yourself to be trolled. If there is no mesmer there, more than likely the kid would get bored and bail out of the wall on his own.

I don’t think this is as much of a (thief) game mechanic issue, as it is a general issue with gates….Like it has been suggested 500 million times: “contested” shouldn’t occur until a set percentage (for instance) of damage is done to it, to prevent “tappers”.

Also I never felt as though anti-stealth traps were implemented for countering the thief mechanic stealth in general….Rather I feel it was more of a situational use:

IE: Breached wall, you see the enemy stack, lay down anti-stealth in the breached area to catch the incoming Mesmer that is trying to portal them in.

Or

IE: Thief and Mesmer hold up in a captured point, so you lay one down and run them over it so they cannot hide out.

In short, I always associated the traps somehow actually relating back to portaling mesmers more than just open field combat strategies to kill random thieves.

Had this happen to a ton of us on server VoIP last night…At first we thought we had it narrowed down to people with only AMD processors, then just before I logged someone crashed that had Intel. So no idea what is happening, a few of us crashed multiple times, I and a couple of others even had to “hard reboot” because even with task manager up the computer behaved like GW2 was still up in full screen, so we couldn’t kill processes or do much of anything.

I have concluded (from his one sided conversations, and 5-6 consecutive postings) that Hippologic is kitten, to my credit I have tried to unlock some type of soothing unguent or cream in the forge to ease the discomfort he is feeling, sadly to no avail.

Hippo, my dear sweet mammal….The idea of the “alliance” was to do many things, I shall list a few of them so you are not completely in the dark for the rest of the week, and to save us all from reading your 20 posts in a row of random blurtings:

-For SF to “help” IoJ push DH, during NA primetimes. This was the main objective as during the Isle of Janthhaven days, DH sat back and got fat on the hog whilst IoJ got 2nd. To which I am sure you are thinking: Well IoJ still got 2nd, they play for 2nd, yadda yadda yadda. Again the idea was to knock that lead down a bit and give IoJ a chance (and SF to whatever extent possible) the ability to close the gap between 1st and 2nd.
Now from my personal perspective, the issue with these agreements, is that not everyone abides by them. So the results were hit and miss, due to fluctuations in the “plan” by random guilds/pugs, but overall I think the past week the scores were about as close as they have been to that point.

-Similar to the first point, but for IoJ to stop cherrypicking SF during the oceanic/offpeak times, because once again this allowed DH to run rampantly unchecked.

-To change the culture/thinking process of IoJ/SF as a whole: Why fight for the scraps of 2nd/3rd, when together you can attack the 1st place overlords.

TL/DR: The idea behind it all was: Sure IoJ can cherry pick SF during offpeaks, but all that did was entangle SF/IoJ…All the while DH sat back and held their BL (100%), held their 1/3 of EB + SM, thus freeing up the DH zergs to roam wherever and whenever they wanted. This also allowed DH to hold a substantial PPT throughout the week, which led to the huge leads they (DH) were posting at reset.

The IoJ/SF “alliance” (as you call it), was merely a way to: get a better match going for all 3 servers (something I have even seen DH people claim to have noticed), and to keep DH “honest”, meaning that you could not always just PVGate your way to 1st all the while having IoJ/SF do your dirty work keeping the other server busy.

WvW players don’t have any laurels at all.

By making it require laurels, you are requiring the WvW player to do extensive PvE just to get any ascended equipment.

Please reconsider.

Sir surely you jest, as I have did every daily inside WvW. My guess is that you haven’t been doing them at all?

Also I SURELY want them to cost laurels, cause the thought of those badge horders gearing 8 toons with ascended gear in one day sickens me. Coupling them with laurels gives some time-gating to the acquisition so badge horders aren’t rewarded.

3 Identical maps, breeds repetition/boredom. Having 1 distinct map breeds massive funneling into it.

If at minimum ANET is not designing new map content for WvW I feel bad for what is coming for them. Stop fooling yourselves, WvW is dying at an alarming rate. In the lower tiers less and less people are playing, many have moved to PVE or other games altogether. It may be another year at this rate (assuming nothing changes), but eventually WvW will be fully dead.

Which is sad since it is all I do for the most part, I am personally hoping these changes that they are working on will rejuvenate it some. At minimum it will get some PVE folks back into WvW I think, hopefully they will stick. But again, 3 like maps, is fail…Hopefully they are working on it behind the scenes.

For the screencap you posted, Crimson, I wasn’t there and I don’t speak for everyone on my server but I would have built an AC in that exact spot. Why? Because there is a gap in the door where you can see over the door to hit any AC’s/ballistas behind the door, including on that bridge, and near the supply depot roof and with range, to the lord’s room as well.

Correct me if I am wrong (seriously), but I thought that screenshot was of Blue Keep SE(going from memory) outer wall, which would have made that siege actually at a wall not a door. Or are you referring to the inner door?

the double team worked as intended, it prevented us DH from getting a huge point lead
and giving us really fun battles

Nice to see a DH person “keeping it real” (I added that so the signet warrior would understand since he only speaks in wangster cliche’s :P). That was the idea, that if IoJ really wanted to go for first that we would help them, provided they assisted in focusing on DH primarily before just cherry picking us at opportune times.

I am surprised we haven’t seen more kitten from DH about it, (Ajax has been borderline a few times but stopped short of QQing, good on ya bro)but in all reality we knew DH would have enough folks to throw at the problem to make it competitive. So in the end, while not knowing what we would get by the next reset, we had hoped it would give us a more competitive match with possibly something to play for during the latter part of the week. It isn’t perfect, but I think this has been the most fun week for all 3 servers.

For DH’s part I think they have took it all in stride and, I do hope they are enjoying having some to play for at this point rather than just sitting back and PVdooring all day with a 30k lead.

to break WvW as the gloom and doomers had forecast. When I see them used, which isn’t all that often, they’re used tactically as opposed to being smeared all over the map. We don’t see thieves hiding in corners with their dangly bits exposed unable to stealth. We don’t see people abandoning mesmers in a pool of tears.

I think we’re seeing a classic example of people over-reacting before we had any facts to go with or experience to fall back on. At least, that’s what I’m seeing.

I know we use a ton of the supply ones, as they are ridiculously broken and can be made OP if used properly.

I think the main reason why the QQing about them went by the wayside is the method of obtaining them and arming them. It just makes it as so the average WvWer doesn’t bother with them.

But trust me, in the right hands I have seen the supply traps turn imminent/impending failure, into an easy victory while defending objectives.

Have yet to see a stealth one, that I know of, which makes my thief and mesmer happy.

Reporting in game is useless, as i did report a speedhacker for almost 2 weeks, 10-20 times per day few month ago and fought him day after day.
Few days ago i did a report a zoom hack user with 2 videos, a screen, the extact time of when it happened, the exact time when i also did a report in game and something has been done by anet this time (confirmation from Jade sea community), but i still got a reply from anet support to ask me to report in game if possible

Which is exactly the reason why I never bother with all the screens/emails/etc.

I truly believe that they just tell us this to send us on a wild goose chase, beyond that it is not my job to provide surveillance. I do not mind reporting legitimate issues, but even if it is remotely questionable I let it slide, but I am not going to waste my time frapping/uploading/emailing all for nothing.

I have been through their process before, all they did was apologize for my inconvenience, ignore all my questions about how their system works, and give me no information on who caused the issue, how it was caused, or what accountability there was in place to rectify the situation.

ANET made a great game, but it boggles the mind why little things like this slip by them day-after-day.

There are many things broken about this game and this is one. For instance, you do not see a players name in WvW, but you have the option to report said player for a name violation.

Before you haul off and say that this could be interpreted as reporting a “Guild Name”, I would caution you to realize that even when the ANET fairy follows through and bans the person it is just that singular person.

Also, regarding naming issues, it seems to be for all intents and purposes automated. In fact I truly believe that ANET never looks at these until you contest them, at which point you obviously have been already banned….I have seen/heard of more people getting banned for naming issues than anything else (language/hacking/etc). And in most cases once ANET finally does decide to get around to reviewing it (AKA doing their job), it gets overturned.

Looks like our tier is the most competitive this week so I think its a win win win for the tier. I finally finished the jumping puzzle in southsun and will be in wvw tonight looking for a fight to relieve my frustrations.

That was the main idea, to make a closer match that didnt just have one server running out to an “uncatchable” lead. We will see what the rest of the week has in store, but so far it has been much more fun.

this is just saying the infusions are for wvw, but the actual aquisition of the gear remains the same, which is impossible through wvw only atm, right?

From what I read you will be able to purchase ascended items as well as infusions. The bit about the infusions in particular was that they would be geared/traited toward WvW-related stats, rather than the previously offered infusions.

The gate/limiter is that ascended items will be purchased with a combination of badges/laurels, so all those hording 20k worth of badges wont be able to fully gear their 8 alts in one day. Still gotta get enough laurels.

Dear Asuran DH [Abys] Thief Commander,

We have watched your questionable camera angles for a few weeks now, and I personally have a couple of questions for you. Do you at least stay til the chest drops when you get your boss zooms?

Also do you tell your MZ (thats mindless zerg for those that never did time in T8), what you are really commanding them to speed build those ACs for?

Because I wonder if they would waste their time/supply to help you speed build AC after AC so you could simply try to farm badges (IE: kill players with your camera angles).

Just letting the DH folks know that if you follow this kid and seem to be not getting some success, it is likely because he is too concerned with trying to PoV some AC kills rather than capturing the objective. 4 times last night I watched him assault an SF tower, and 4 times he failed. As all 4 he had you guys speed build ACs, to which he shot at players within the tower and for the most part never touched our siege. While I built AC after AC and killed your rams. At Anz he had you build 2 carts because I killed his first one. Not sure how effective he is at commanding (maybe he is great), but figured you guys should know that he is using his camera for his own gain rather than anything for DH, for the most part that is.

Can’t fault the PVdooring, can’t earn a +50PPT with people actually on, so if we gotta give up points I am fine with giving them to IoJ. I am also guessing DH had much more of a resistance than us.

Not sure what you mean without some context, but SF fully expected IoJ’s night/oceanic crew to be at work this week. As long as they are hitting both sides equally it should be fine, if they are focusing solely on SF then this week will probably play out like the last 2 have.

Either way nothing SF can do about oceanic coverage beyond paying for oceanic mercs, etc.

This is what always happens. I try to color DH BL and then suddenly SF invades our BL so I have to go back defending our side.

Just keep in mind that you will always have guild groups/randoms/Breakouts hitting random things, which means you are sure to lose some BO towers etc.

Don’t get frustrated, it happens to us to. We have had to pull out of several offenses to go and clear a random group of IoJ pushing us.

Saturday night (I think it was, possibly Friday), we had DH’s keep on EB, and had no real serious intentions on keeping it and SM. We saw the IoJ guys pushing towards golanta as DH had walls down on the keep. The thought was this would be a primetime to back off the keep long enough to let IoJ and DH fight it out for it, we were wrong. Because IoJ turned and headed for SM, so we pulled out of the keep and protected SM.

In the end IoJ missed out on the keep, and SM, while DH was able to reclaim their 1/3 of EB while we mucked around at SM. The moral of the story is that things have a way of working out, once again the idea is not to 2v1 DH, the idea is to keep them honest. They have superior numbers, this is a known fact. If we keep their numbers in check (we being IoJ/SF) then they have to play all week. Whereas in the past they were able to cherry pick at opportune times, while IoJ/SF fought each other. All the while DH was stacking PPT and building up 30k+ leads.

As it stands now DH has to earn everything they get, and IoJ/SF does as well. Which is the way it should be, makes for a better matchup, and guarantees more fun to be had for all 3 servers.

SF is very aware both of you will make a substantial push during the weekdays now, but that push hopefully will not produce the lopsided scores, and the “playing for 2nd” mentality that has permeated this match so far in the past 2 weeks.

Let’s keep at this thing all week long and see where it takes us, hopefully all 3 servers enjoy the hell out of WvW all week, and this match continues to be fun for all.

I tried to suggest to IoJ a week (or more) back that they should focus more on DH and we could do the same. I was ofc met with criticism from IoJ, and borderline panic from DH.

As it stands now you both are fighting over the scraps that are left of SF, the more you push us, the more we push back (as much as we can that is). So you end up splitting your ppt’s and allowing us to drag you down with us.

But then again I guess I am crazy again….

As far as the PVE’ers, guilds taking vacations, bandwagoners, fairweathers, and any other kittenamamie excuses we have heard go: make it permanent. I would rather be able to depend on a group of people that are here day-in-day-out, rather than see the kind of wild variances that your presence and now absence has caused us. I am not saying make WvW your job, God knows that would be awful. But if you are kitten crying in a corner because of the PPT, or the outmanned buff I would say: SUCK IT THE kitten UP.

It is time for SF to figure out if we are a T6 server, or if we are really a T7 that is merely pretending, IoJ if you wanna play for 1st then you need to push DH and vampire some of that PPT. If you want to guarantee 2nd then continue how your are going. SF can hold off one of you, but not both. Do your jobs and we can do ours, but continue the way you are and get cozy playing 2nd fiddle.

This is not actually all true. Whenever I try hitting DH BL SF will try to kill our BL so I have to go back and defend our own BL. And then when I go back to DH corners SF will hit our corners again so out of frustration/s I will start hitting SF until DH dominates everything.

I just want to remind you guys, I pick DH first before SF but if you guys kitten me off then I have no choice but to hit your side first since you guys are easier to hit in my prime time.

Hopefully you have seen a difference this past weekend. When you are dealing with a full server of people there will always be those that are: ignorant of what you are trying to do, in disagreement, not on the same page, etc.

So while we have seen people push IoJ, our main forces have been on DH as much as possible.

Personally, I saw IoJ push Ogres last night 3-4 times in a row with an “orange swords” zerg. Each of those times we pushed them out and then capped umber for good measure but held off of the towers (brav/doritos), in order to go back to working on DH.

We understand there will be times when IoJ pushes us, and we are fine with that. In fact we encourage it, as I am sure you guys do. We do not want to make this an “alliance” or 2v1, we just want to help you guys focus on DH all week so the match will not be “mailed in” by Wednesday.

So far I think it has worked out well, let’s keep at it and see where we end up on Thursday.
