Also, there’s a reason why they went back to putting the tickets in the BLTC chests – I’m sure that the “deluxe” dragon coffers sold on the TP were not a hot item when you could get a stack of the regular ones from the TP for a gold or two.
The items from the Southsun crates and dragon coffers weren’t worth it. At least with BLCs even if you ‘lose’ on a ticket you still have a chance of getting something nifty like a makeover kit (at least I prefer that to Karka shells or Zhaitaffy :P).
I didn’t expect Anet to give up on RNG boxes, but I’m glad that they seem to have gone back to BLCs. I’m much more likely to open those than bother with separate containers that usually only contain event specific crafting materials at best.
The super skins from last time started out moderately high. I think the GS was originally listed for somewhere around 40g? (Okay, that was high at the time. :P) However, as more and more people played SAB and got the skin drops the prices dropped by half or more, the GS went to about 16g.
Then the price spiked because (assumed) speculators started buying up all the skins. Then it started falling again due to supply. Then it was announced the skins were a one-time-only deal and prices skyrocketed (mostly among speculators). However, demand was really low after the fact and after reaching a peak (GS at about 80g) prices crashed hard. GS went down to below 20g at one point post-SAB if I recall correctly.
People thought the prices would go up again, but they never did. They’ve been steadily falling since May. A lot of people got burned on super skin investments, so I don’t even know what to predict this time.
Huh. GS started off higher than I remember, but by April 3rd they’d already fallen to ~20g. Though gw2spidy isn’t showing when they peaked around ~84g, they must not have been at that price long enough.

implementing ‘’colorblind mode’’ so that colorblind players aren’t excluded
I’m not even colorblind. The problem is threefold:
1. They semi-recently changed what used to be solid red circles with this new smokey/wavy animation. While that’s fine on solid surfaces it does not work for…
2. The grated floors of the domes. It breaks up the consistency of the circles too much. Paired with #1 that makes it a problem.
3. You can’t zoom out/angle the camera inside the dome well enough to see any kind of pattern. That’s why I said I had to get lucky finding safe spots because visually I had a very difficult time telling where they were.
If you look at any of the numerous threads about this many non-colorblind people complained of the same things. Regardless, I agree, there should be a colorblind mode, but I’m pointing out the issue affects those of us who can see color as well.
Have you read any guides in how to deal with her fight phases? You can also turn off Post Processing to remove the ‘blind’ effect she randomly chucks at you. The aoe circles that 1 shot you follow a fixed pattern everytime you fight her. Knowing what you’re getting into is half the battle. Understanding how the red circles pattern work will give you less trouble than you would’ve had. Oh and the cosmic rifts spawn at the same places too during phase 1 :p
I thoroughly researched the encounter before setting foot in there. None of that changes getting screwed over by an orb in P2 pulling you underneath a Shadowfall even if you’ve played flawlessly until then.
I had no issues with the blind, but the Shadowfall patterns in P2 mean absolutely nothing if you have difficulty seeing the red circles as I did. It’s a frequently complained about issue for a reason.
I’ve beaten Liadri and I can honestly say it had absolutely nothing to do with player skill. I basically kept feeding tickets to the Ringmaster until I got lucky with 1. orb RNG and 2. being able to find safe spots in P2 because the red circles are nearly impossible to see.
Any encounter that relies on RNG and visual limitations as heavily as this one does as a means of “difficulty” is not indicative of skill whatsoever as far as I’m concerned. I wanted a real challenge and instead I got this. It was a very poorly designed fight and by far the least amount of enjoyment I’ve had in GW2.
Meanwhile people can bug the system by buying a skin on the TP, stacking it with their account bound skin and…. voila, both can be sold.
I can’t even do that. I have never seen a Fused Shortbow on the TP, which makes me think I may be the only one who has one. :P
Unfortunately, silly me, I spent my ticket the last day of F&F because I thought the vendor was going to be removed. Despite my apathy towards the fused skins, I figured it was better to have a skin than a worthless ticket. Apparently that decision has now cost me over 200g. >_> Unless it’s fixed, of course.
What I find interesting is this:
Complete Your Super Weapon Set
Moto’s prepared for another round of fundraising with the rest of the Super Weapon Skins! Trade in Bauble Bubbles to pick up a stylish new look for your weapons.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/september-03-2013/
There was a thread over in General Discussion about mini collectors who were peeved that Mr Sparkles was a (potential) Gamescon exclusive and therefore it permanently ruins their ability to complete the collection.
Honestly, if you want to collect anything, especially pets, GW2 is the worst MMO I’ve ever played to do it in. Anyone who wants to collect minis is just unnecessarily setting themselves up for a LOT of heartache.
As an aside, I hate RL event specific goodies. It’s one of the things that drove me nuts in WoW (especially the Tyrael pet from Paris for gods sake) since they were virtually impossible for most people to get. (Hell, the annual Blizzcon alone was almost a $1000 trip if you included travel, lodging, etc.)
All they’d really have to do is make sure Aetherblades don’t show up until the final wave. It’d actually force everyone to get through the first two waves ASAP so they could get to the farming. At that point, there shouldn’t be any issue in winning. Farmers will handle the Aetherblades, those focused on winning stick to the minion portals. Problem solved. :P
If they don’t come back they will absolutely go back up in price. People wanting matching weapon sets (it’s surprising how many people didn’t get to do SAB last time) + a new batch of speculators who will probably start buying them.
There’s certainly enough gold in the economy right now that the SAB skins are very affordable. I’m biased, but aside from the Zenith weapons I think the SAB skins are the best looking in the game and they’re also the cheapest by a decent margin.
That would alienate anyone who bought 2 or more sets, what is “a little” exactly. Or if they were, say x3-5 expensive per tool, out-lash from people who haven’t bought them yet, saying it’s just a money grab. People would not be happy buying 2-3 sets (or even 1 set) of soul bound tools if X months later they released account bound ones.
You really think Anet cares? If it’s going to make them more money, they’ll do it.
Look at weapon skins. If I were one of those suckers players who spent $300+ on RNG boxes trying to get a supposedly one-time-only weapon skin only to find out they’d been added back permanently and made sellable I would be furious. (Especially the jade ones, they are so cheap.) I’m actually really surprised I haven’t seen more QQ threads about it.
You wouldn’t be the first or the last to feel slighted. That’s just how it is.
They were in southsun crates which people could farm… so no doubt they are less rare than fused.
I think it’s the opposite. The drop rate on the crates was terrible and then the drop rate of the skins from the crates was even worse. It was RNG on top of RNG unless you bought the crates from the gem store.
They don’t have to revert these tools, just make new ones and price them a little higher.
As an altoholic, the soulbind was a deal breaker.
I finally killed her yesterday after going through at least 100 tickets and 3 different classes. Finally managed it with Healix’s defensive warrior build, although, I had a difficult time hitting her in P2 with a sword and ended up switching to rifle for some of it.
I wish I could say I felt the same exhilaration others have expressed, but all I really felt was relief it was finally over. It was one of the most miserable gaming experiences I’ve ever gone through (the 8 orb achievement can suck it), but I was determined to get it done. Hopefully next time I won’t be trolled into thinking overcoming a bunch of one shot mechanics, RNG, and visual limits equates to player skill.
Same. I need a pistol & focus for my mesmer (to match her SAB sword & GS) and a pistol & dagger for my thief.
Then again, my ideal MMO is one where every player can acquire the look they want without breaking their bank; making yourself stand out in an aesthetic sense comes down to choosing a unique or unusual combination of armor, weapons and dye rather than just going for whatever’s the most expensive.
I totally agree with you.
Allowing investors to break even on their investments is also something that doesn’t win a lot of sympathy from me, I’m afraid.
Well, it’s less about the investments and more about reducing the supply. Unfortunately, a precedent of “exclusivity” among weapon skins has already been set. Despite the new availability of previous skins their rarity is still being preserved through the amount of tickets it takes to claim one. I see no reason why SAB skins should be any different. I doubt there’s any hope for the Wintersday toy skins (unless they never make a comeback), but SAB skins could still potentially hold the same amount of value as any other skin depending on how they’re handled.
I’ve been waiting for a bank space sale forever. I’m not sure they’ve even had more than one since release.
Secondly, the fact that the Winter’s weapon skins (along with probably the Fused/Sclerite skins in coming days) are now available again tells me that ANet may have changed their strategy when it comes to limited time skins (which is an approach I approve of).
SAB skin acquisition was/is significantly different than the RNG box skins though. While I’m sure the sale of them has been profitable, I’m not sure that the distribution of their rewards was very high. (It’s anecdotal, but the amount of people I saw running around with RNG box skins was a fraction of the SAB skins.)
The scelerite ones in particular weren’t in BLCs and the crate drop rate was so terrible you practically had to buy them from the gem store, which probably alienated a lot of players from obtaining them. Even with their re-release they cost multiple BLC scraps/tickets (RNG) so they’re still not easy to obtain, but at least the option is there.
Conversely, SAB skins were so easily obtained that the extra ones that dropped saturated the market. I think if they reintroduce the original SAB skins under the same system that the existing ones may go the way of the Wintersday toy skins in terms of a massive price drop. There will just be so many of them and no reason to ever purchase them from the TP, especially with SAB being recurring content.
I’m not in favor of limited/one-time-only content either, but if they’re going to reintroduce the previous skins I’d prefer they did it at the 1 year anniversary of SAB and not with this upcoming release. Give investors a chance to at least break even and reduce the amount of supply available.
As far as I’m concerned, Liadri is more of a “gear check” than anything. The fight is so heavily choreographed around one-shot mechanics that if you have significant latency and/or an out of date computer you’re going to have a much harder time. Even a one second delay is likely going to be an instant failure.
There’s little to no room for human error either, which I personally find unrealistic. It’s not uncommon for people to make “fat fingered” mistakes in gameplay, but Liadri punishes you severely for those.
Then there’s the RNG with the orbs so even if you’ve had a flawless performance up until that point a pull into a Shadowfall at the wrong time is game over.
I actually think this is one of the most poorly designed encounters I’ve ever come across, but that’s just my opinion. If others want to tout it as being the pinnacle of player skill, well, more power to you.
I actually think they will go up because people want matching stuff.
Agreed.
Depending on whether or not the old skins are reintroduced I can see speculation driving the prices of the skins up again too.
Yes, please!
The achievement driving me nuts right now is Dive Master. There are 40 locations and I honestly do not remember which I have and haven’t done.
While I agree with you OP, the bigger issue is that the Pavilion was sealed off at all. I think that was a really bad decision. The worst part of the gating are the 6x invasions required before the instance since it’s soloable.
Then they should stop labeling it as ‘suggested 5 players’.
Agreed. For the longest time people thought it was impossible to solo SAB because of that.
Also agreed.
The sad thing is you have no guarantee of getting a new map even on the same night. The past couple of nights zones have been recurring back to back. Last night I swear Lornar’s Pass came up 3x in a row.
Considering that you’re completely shut out of the Pavilion until you complete every part of the Queen’s Speech segment of the Living Story I thought one invasion should have been sufficient. There’s no reason to have people doing it 6x, especially when the invasions last 45 minutes a piece (35 of which are mandatory since you cannot zone into an invasion past the 10 minute mark) and there’s no guarantee you’ll get credit. (It seems to be hit or miss whether a loss counts.)
I was wondering what your thoughts are on Giver’s weapons (trading condition damage for more duration)?
Does anyone have a response for this? I’m genuinely curious if trading 180 condition damage is worth it for another 20% condition duration.
I’ve never found mobility to be enough of an issue to warrant warrior over ranger. It only costs 5c to port around and the longest run you have is from Divinity’s Reach to the bandit cave, which isn’t that far.
Plus, I don’t have to unlock anything on shortbow. I can get by solely on the bleed from auto attack, anything else is just a bonus. I guess if you have the personal banker (I don’t) and can start out with GS then unlocking #5 isn’t that difficult, but otherwise it’ll take longer than going through the personal story. I often don’t even have #4 unlocked before the end.
My experiences are the same as LadyRhonwyn. Human commoner is much shorter/faster/easier. My personal preference is to use a ranger w/shortbow (tried warrior and didn’t like it as much). I can finish it in 30 minutes or less, solo, and underleveled (usually level 6 by the end).
I was wondering what your thoughts are on Giver’s weapons (trading condition damage for more duration)?
What you need to understand is that when you walk into the dome a farmer is using and go straight to failing Liadri, without asking if you can use his dome (There are five other domes, one of them will surely have people actually doing the gauntlet, and thus will res you), he’s not going to see you as a human being. He’s going to see you as a piece of filth that gets in his way, wastes his time and then wants him to res you, so you can waste more of his time.
It has nothing to do with community, it has to do with you being rude and getting in the way of someone who wants money, repeatedly, without even asking.
Flame me all you want, but the fact of the matter is that you’re the aggressors, the farmers JUST WANT TO FARM, so stay away from my dome.
The road goes both ways, pal. My first time in the gauntlet I bounced through several different overflows trying to find an unoccupied dome so I could get my feet wet with some modicum of privacy. (Newsflash: Not everyone likes to have their potential failures displayed to everyone in a fishbowl, Anet.)
I finally found an unoccupied dome and started on the opponents. I don’t remember which one I died to, Windcaller probably, but no sooner than I did a thief rushed up to my dome, ran over my corpse, and immediately queued up for Dead Eye farming.
I’m not colorblind and I find the red circles difficult to see. Not only does the texture of the grated floor break up the consistency of the circle outlines too much, but red is not a particularly easy color to distinguish in there in the first place. Since, again, the flooring is grated the color of it is always changing based on what area you’re above among other things.
I was doing gauntlet achievements while someone else at the dome was trying Liadri. I’d mentioned I had about 500 tickets on a character I didn’t want to do the gauntlet with and he said he didn’t want to do Liadri on the character he was on, but it was the one with all the tickets.
I’d say it’s a flawed system, but they probably want you spending your gold on tickets than actually using the ones that drop.
Release and head back to the dome, pick an easy-ish boss you know you can handle. Drag the fight out for as long as you can. Your coin loss will be less than the farmers. Laugh.
Excellent idea. Heck I’ve spent my money to res and then went right back to the same dome just to waste the farmer’s time. The coin isn’t worth that much to me but if the inconsiderate farmers don’t feel they can take 30-45 seconds to res somebody, I’ll waste a full minute of their time. Now do the math on the ROI for the farmer’s time… Is that a sound enough argument? Need to beware the golden rule, sometimes people treat you the way you treat them.
I’ve done this once. The inconvenience to me was worth it to not reward the farmer’s behavior.
Having said that, I was frustrated because I’d been overflow hopping trying to find less occupied domes so that I could start the gauntlet for the first time without being watched. I thought that was a horrible idea from the start. Some of us don’t want our failures displayed in a fishbowl for every passerby to see. :P I finally found one and the first time I died a farmer took it as his queue to take over the dome.
I spent probably the next half hour going back to that same dome, continuing what I was doing, and disrupting his flow as much as possible. Someone nice showed up and we began resing each other before re-queuing, which finally got the farmer to leave.
If I see Dead Eye in a dome I keep moving. (This sadly has more to do with not wanting to get involved with jerks than being considerate of others’ farming.) Your best bet is to find people still working on Liadri or basically any other boss since that usually means they’re probably working through the tiers and/or achievements.
I try to find at least 2 people at a dome since 3 is typically the perfect number so someone’s in and someone’s out to revive. They’ll usually appreciate that, otherwise (if you’re a really nice person) you’ll have to wait to res them before you queue yourself.
Having said that, I was in a dome group yesterday with a Dead Eye farmer who had no issue waiting between 4 of us trying for various achievements before he got his runs in, so there are cool people, but I’ve run into more people that aren’t unfortunately.
The whole system is flawed and I can’t believe a lot of this wasn’t addressed prior to release, but it is what it is. Hopefully next time it’ll be better.
I think one-shot abilities are a lame way to inject “difficulty” into a fight anyway. Especially in the gauntlet’s case where you have skewed camera angles, graphical difficulties, unclear ‘tells’, lag from below, etc. You have about a .5 second reaction time to an instant game over ability when just about everything is already working against you.
Enemies should have devastating abilities that cause you to have to adjust your gameplay to something smarter or safer, but there should be some kind of possible recovery. No such thing exists with these insta-kill abilities. You blink at the wrong time and you’re dead. That’s not difficult, it’s just BS.
Well, I for one find it somewhat rude to hijack someone else’s farming arena. Polite people find their own arenas where they don’t disturb anyone.
The road goes both ways. I’ve had farmers ‘hijack’ domes I was at. They refuse to res so they can get in more farms while you have to run back. Classy. Whenever someone does that to me I purposely stay at the dome. Even if it’s an inconvenience for me, I’m not going to reward that behavior by giving them exactly what they want.
I started out passing by domes with Dead Eye since I was trying to be respectful of farmers, but now I do it so I don’t have to deal with jerks.
Try being color blind. Her 2 second red ring warnings are practically invisible against the floor. Throw that in with horrible camera angles and I simply can not even play against her.
Might as well try beating her with your eye’s closed.
GW2 has a lot of content that requires you to see the AoE. If your color blindness affects you that much then GW2 is prolly not the game for you. It’s not just Liadri.
I am not color blind and I have great difficulty seeing the red circles. I don’t have that issue anywhere else in the game, so I can only assume it’s because the flooring is grated and the circle consistency is so broken up it’s difficult to make out when it’s there.
As far as I know, character slots have only been on sale twice: once after New Year’s and again some time in June, I think. Based on that if you wanted to make any speculations it’s about 6 months between sales.
Unless they do a sale for their 1 year anniversary then you’re possibly looking at December/January for the next one.
My build is not Soldier build its a Cavalier/ knight mixture. Nothing is wrong with PTV but its a separate build/ playstyle to what my build is.
5 Points would be for the PTV build, i recommend re-reading the original OP!
Thanks for the response. My questions were based off of suggestions I read you give others in the thread. As I said, I was going off memory of three pages of posts and additionally I’m sure the lines were blurred by others discussing PTV builds since I didn’t realize there was a significant difference between the two.
Think of what kind of build you want and maximize your potential there. Necromancer has many viable builds but they are not good in all situations, only specific ones.
I want this build for WvW, that’s why I posted in this thread. O_o It’s actually almost identical to one I’d already mapped out on my own with only a 10 point variation.
The reasons for my questions are because some of the responses suggested modifications and substitutions if you’re new to it and/or don’t have the ability to obtain the same level of gear. I’m sorry if that wasn’t clear, I thought I’d been specific.
Let me preface by saying that I’ve never played my necro in WvW and I’m not in a particularly competitive tier. It’s usually just PUG zergs running around on a “karma train”.
Having said that, I’d like to try this build, but I’d like to get a better idea of where I should start. I’ve tried to take mental note of everything I’ve read, but just to be sure:
- Beryl orbs would be acceptable in place of Melandru runes?
- PVT gear (Power, Vitality, Toughness), correct?
- Use Exquisite Charged Quartz Jewels in accessories? Should I also use Charged Quartz accessories or keep with PVT stats?
- A bit confused on the sigils, should I use Restoration or Blood?
- Do you suggest taking 5 points in Spite as a starter build or is copying it as is fine?
Sorry for all the questions, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
The Halloween skins are more expensive because they were awesome in addition to being rare. Some of the Aetherblade skins are cool, but I don’t know that they’re going to be worth hundreds of gold to anyone especially since new weapon skins come out every month or so. The only one people really seemed to want was the rapier, which wasn’t even included in the set and the most popular weapon, GS, has arguably the worst skin of them all (as opposed Halloween).
Well, the way I see it is Abaddon is as relevant to GW2 as The Silmarillion was to The Lord of the Rings. Knowing about Middle Earth’s past explained everything that was going on in LotR, but was it essential that you know it? No, not really.
I agree with you though. I know people just want to see the encounter even though they already know what happened (unlike Thaumanova Reactor).
As someone who did not play GW1 the whole ‘Fall of Abaddon’ means nothing to me. Outside of a sunken temple in Straits of Devestation, which I was only briefly introduced to by making specific choices in my personal story, I know nothing about him. Since the human gods 1) no longer have a presence in Tyria and 2) apparently did their best to erase him from existence I suspect it will stay that way.
I feel they went too far back in lore with Abaddon and as such it seems more of a GW1 fan service than anything. If the fractal had been a pre-cataclysmic Orr I would have been all over that and felt that it was relevant to the current game. Depending on your personal story choices Abaddon’s not even mentioned anywhere (that I know of) in the game outside of a point of interest. In that respect the Thaumanova Reactor has a much larger presence, especially if you note its effects are evident not only in Metrica Provice but in Brisban Wildlands as well.
Personally, I would have liked to have seen both, but given the choice I’m going to go with what’s relevant in the current timeline and not something that significantly pre-dates anything I’ve encountered in the game to the point of meaninglessness.
I’m with you, OP. I think this is actually one of the worst events they’ve had so far (and that’s saying something). There doesn’t seem to be anything in it for a player like myself. I don’t do fractals so I’ll never see whatever’s implemented except via YouTube. I also hate PvP minigames (the only exception being Sanctum Sprint). I don’t buy keys and I don’t WP enough for it to make a difference. I also don’t care about either mini.
The achievements are also the worst I’ve seen, with you having to do them all to get the meta and they all frankly suck. I started out not doing them because none of them sound even remotely enjoyable, but now I may consider it my silent protest to just a bunch of awful. :P
Alright, I think I’ve figured out what the problem is. I am almost never in a 1v1 situation. :P The only players who either 1) stay to fight me or 2) come after me are other thieves.
What usually ends up happening is I’m against 3-4 other players, I panic, and I die. It’s making me feel like the worst player ever. Maybe I should have started with a more familiar class and not my most recent alt. :\
Does the +10% condition duration on Nightmare runes provide a significant difference? I don’t run dungeons much, so Undead runes would be much easier for me to obtain. Also, would you go for 6/6 Undead or something else? 5% Toughness→Condition Damage should be around +60 condition damage.
I’m also struggling a bit trying to find a good ‘rotation’ for P/D. I guess it takes some getting used to, but I feel like I’m using stuff when I shouldn’t and not using it when I should. :P Other thieves are still such a royal pain too.
(edited by Lane.3410)
Okay, I’ve pieced this together mostly based on Travlane’s input, but also taking into consideration some things others have posted.
I’ve tried to fill out as much as possible. I wasn’t sure about armor upgrades since some seemed to go with Undead runes and others with Nightmare. Also wasn’t sure about underwater weapon sigils. :P Should I assume Exquisite Chrysocola Jewels for all the accessories? If there’s anything you see I should add or change please let me know. Utilities seem to be subjective for the most part.
Side question: What sigil would you suggest for a short bow in a zerg setting?
Lastly, this build came highly suggested to me if anyone wants to take a look at it, it’s 0/0/30/20/20:
Thanks for the replies everyone! It looks like I’ll be needing to play around with this build to see what suits my playstyle best since there are so many different suggestions for traits, utilities, and gear.
Please keep posting though, I’m sure to have a lot more questions once I begin field testing.
I’ve seen 0/0/30/20/20 frequently listed as a P/D spec for WvW, but I’m having a difficult time finding any links to a build and/or what traits are suggested.
I am very new to thief and to PvP in general. I realize traits that I think look great on the surface might not be and vice versa, so I’m deferring to the knowledge and experience of the thief community rather than just making assumptions.
Can anyone help me with what traits I should get for this build? Thanks.
I had issues with not being able to interact with the door, but it fixed itself. Only thing I can think of is maybe someone had just finished doing the event when I tried the first time since about 10 minutes later it was fine.
