I don’t have a set schedule. Right now, if I log in on a weeknight, its usually to get my 3 pvp ranked games. On the weekends its pvp in the morning or central tyria mastery grinding on my alt, and HoT progression with my husband in the afternoons.
Will you pre-order the next expansion? [Poll]

I hate the simple “yes” “no” options. I have no issue pre-purchasing depending on if I like what I see when they start feeding us information. So it’s really not a simple “yes” or “no” answer.
sigh
Remember the days where you’d buy a physical game, and it had a warning right on the box that if it was opened you couldn’t return it? Good times.
Remember the days where you’d buy a physical game, and it would be a full game, with parts not taken out like a jigsaw puzzle, or missing entirely until a later date and then outright cancelled? Good times.
Actually I remember buying full games that were short and sucked. Maybe you’re wearing some rose-coloered glasses, but there were plenty of short kittenty games that I paid full price for.
Or games that sounded great, or that you thought you’d like, and then you couldn’t play for more than like 10 minutes and then just sat on your shelf gathering dust. Done that a few times (ok, more than a few).
Or paid for a game, that turned out to be so buggy that my quest line stalled and I was unable to advance further, on multiple characters and reinstalling the game.
/off to shelf to gather dust.
Or a game that looked nothing like the demo footage or screen shots used to advertise the game, I’m looking at you Aliens: Colonial Marines.(I still enjoyed it, but was let down by it not being anything like the hype)
But man, the good old days of the consoles. Streets of Rage 2 is still.probably my all time favourite.
Not just console games. PC games too. Nox and Arcanum were two I thought would be great and couldn’t stand.
And it look like SAB is indeed back….
.. for 3 weeks.

there are whisper’s about SAB coming back tomorrow on reddit. (not to get anyone’s hopes up)
guess we’ll see
There are whispers (and often shouts and begging) every year on this day.
Yes, but now the SAB based achievements are showing up in the API under festivals
(I had to check it out on gw2 efficiency just to see for myself)

Well that would be no MMO….ever. lol
I understand the anger with the legendary weapons. I really do, but I didn’t do it. So let’s not get kitteny with me.
I’ve been gaming now for many moons and i never knew games could be “refunded”
You bought it, you played it- It’s yours. That’s the policy i’ve always known.
So considering they atleast did that for you is shocking.
Do you have experience returning games? You use the word offensive as tho you have something to compare it to? i’m really curious, spill the beans.
Just imagine the people who would return games a week later after they have beaten them.

Checking through the patch notes might be a start
Checking youtube for any type of new or returning player vids might help too. I think BogOtter and a couple others have some of these. Nothing recent but still mostly relevant.
Also, maybe starting a new character and playing “fresh” might be helpful too.
At what time the April Fools update goes live usually?
If I recall correctly, it should happen at server roll over tonight. (Which is 8pm eastern right now) I think that’s when it kicked in last year. Since technically the server thinks its tomorrow at that point.
Tomes of Knowledge and how they might affect mastery tracks was a hot topic before HoT launched. The concern (and a valid one) was that people that had a crap ton of these would cheapen the mastery tracks by just tome’ing their way through them, and many (if not most) of us were very happy when Anet stated bluntly that tomes and writs would not be usable for mastery experience. I am hoping they stick to this decision, considering I’ve seen pvp players with rows upon rows on stacks of tomes in their bank vaults.
If you want to build your masteries, do what we do, come play pve. If we want the Ascension, we have to come pvp. Its good that there are some mode specific things that require you to actually stick you toe into something you’re not necessarily “comfy” with.
there are just naturally lots of crap humans
This was all you needed to say Chaith. You didn’t need to qualify it with tying it to Sapphire. These people exist across all tiers, and it only seems to get worse as you climb.
They did switch things up this past holiday; however, we could still turn in the old items to get them out of our inventories. I would assume the option will still likely be there next year, but we won’t know until it rolls around again.
They aren’t useful right now, but you should be able to trade them next time Wintersday rolls around, depending on what all you have. You should probably just check the wiki.
I can’t wait for the crying to begin.
When did we all lose our sense of humor? We used to love this / look forward to it in GW1.
Last years April fools was just annoying. I play with in game sounds but to hear brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr killed my ears.
Yes, I’ll agree that least years got annoying after a bit, but it was still chuckle worthy. I still laughed until my cheeks hurt when I first loaded in (and the initial wtf is happening moment passed). After that I just adjusted my sound or my graphics (depending on my mood) and carried on.

First of all, but I might be wrong, I think there is a difference in armour rating?
And to me it would render the classification of soldier, scholar and adventurer (?) professions worthless. I just dislike the thought of a necro or ele with heavy armor. It just doesn’t make sense to me. But as I said that’s personal
There is a difference in armor rating, but what a lot of people are asking for isn’t actually to be able to change their armor rating. They just want to be able to apply any of the skins to whatever armor tier they wear. Like, my ele would really love to wear some of the medium pants just for the look. However, the issue with what people are asking for lies with how the underlying code for the skins is set up, something that was delved into a bit when town clothes went away. Anet would need to do some (probably major) work on the underlying mesh system in order for this to even be remotely possible.
I agree with you. I think a roll back to before you owned HoT is reasoanble.
I’ve spent money on gem store items that would be wiped out, that’s atrocious business from Anet.
I don’t get you, I’m agreeing with you and you’re still arguing with me. Force of habit maybe?
Wow you guys are still playing this, that’s dedication.. I left years ago but just purchased HOT now i’m a bit worried what i’ve bought…
And the prize for most pointless comment goes to Dante! Congratulations!
Wow i see the community hasn’t Changed, kudos..
No, it (the community, at least on the forums) really hasn’t.
HoT isn’t to everyone’s liking, but that’s a given for any product really. I have mixed feelings on the expansion. I play it, but it’s not my absolutely favorite content atm.
This is what happens in ruby since I’m stuck there. Not a single good game in the last two weeks.
I feel your pain. I’ve been stuck in Ruby since the 12th, on my main account. For a while I was stuck in T1 (a long, painful while), but caught a break. Now I’m mired in T4. It’s really hard to care when I see things like all 4 of my teammates mobbing home. I can only do so much as one person. sigh And of course, if I say anything then I’m the bad guy.
And yet…I just breezed into Diamond on my alt, yesterday. After just 5 “days.” The difference between the two accounts is/was absolutely astounding.
I added you to my friend’s list yesterday Donari, but haven’t had time to play yet this week. Vet appointment Monday. Tuesday was my son’s 15th birthday (and parent teacher conferences, lucky him). Had car issues yesterday (blew a tire) which required immediate attention so I could work today. I can only imagine how today is going to go…
How about they just make a smarter system so your mmr can be allotted in a better, more meaningful manner.
Oh boy… I could fill a book with some of the thought process behind many of my character names. But I’ll try to keep this simple.
Some of my names come from predecessors in GW1 (which has it’s own story behind naming).
Others, I try to take into consideration the lore around the race as well as what the name itself means. So, for example, for a Charr I may spend time perusing old Roman names, while I’d look for something Norse or Gaelic for a Norn.
In some instances, names pay homage to books, shows, or characters I enjoyed of felt connected to. Nhaggi is my newest necro, and an Asura. Her name is a reference to 2 things – a character I liked playing an a console game (I could actually go into more depth about the specific character and why, but we’d be here all day), and a cartoon I adored as a child.
While I don’t have anything against removing the safeguards, per say, I kind of feel if they are going to go that route, then they need to either:
A) drastically improve their team matching
or
B) remove rng altogether and eliminate any ability to play as anything less than a full 5-man queue.
You either want it actually competitive, or you don’t.
[Its] time to face up to the fact that you’re never going to have an actual competitive ladder of any kind with any sort of random solo queue. The fact that certain legendary tier players are repeatedly helping boost other players to legendary just for luls has proven this.
Its also time for a smart goddess forsaken filter, Anet.
Srsly? Just one? Well kitten….
uhm…..
Its casualness- the ability to walk away for a bit if I need to and not end up punished for it.
kitten …I always miss out on the freebies…
You have to considering the affect this would have on other AI using classes. If your attacks, by default, auto target the player and bypass the minion, this pretty much negates clones.
I’d like to help you with your GH claim. I’m in NA, Eastern time zone. I have a commander tag, so we could go in with a group of more than 5. In fact, I would advise that you please hold until you can get a group of 7 to 9 if you’d like to get the claim in one try. Which hall are you trying to claim? What voice chat do you use?
I hope things go well for your dog.
Going after Lost Precipice, and I use Discord typically. I “have” teamspeak and ventrilo clients since other ppl like to use them, but both of them tend to lag me.
Pup is doing ok. She’s on some pain meds, though they seem to be making her really thirsty so I need to keep an eye on that, but no joint issues. Looking like she might have simply pulled muscle in her shoulder.
So many of those questions…. I felt like saying “uh…neither.” Depending on which test on which site, along with my mood and time of day, these results definitely vary for me:
Your gaming style is
Achiever: 33%
Explorer: 60%
Griefer: 47%
Socializer: 60%
OMG I Love it! Lmao!
I’ll add you guys to my friend’s list. Won’t be on tonight, have to take my dog to the vet to have shoulder and neck xrays done. So I’ll just keep an eye out when I’m on, to see if you guys feel up to it later this week.
Most of this issue could have been solved by just making those wings a skin or by making legendary tier backpacks available via additional acquisition methods. Multi-tier, mastery gated, gold sink collection grinds. Raiding. WvW. Right now the only alternative is fractals… and when it comes down to fractals or pvp… I’ll pvp thanks.
I’ve tried goading my guildies back into the game….
I’ve tried asking in map chat…..
I’ve tried using the lfg…
Now I’m resorting to asking on the forums…
Could I get a hand claiming my hall from like 4 people?
I don’t have a commander tag, so I can’t personally make a group larger than 5.
NA
Eastern time
Typically play an hour or so in the evenings and on the weekends
I’ve submitted my resume to Anet, since it seems like they are in need of some people lol.
Alt-a-holic here….
18 characters on main account
17 characters on one alt
2 characters on my baby alt
/votes no
Abso-kittening-lutely NO
That is all.
You know, normally I wouldn’t argue overly much with the “pro” players, since they play more than I do. However, given the distinct (and rather drastic) differences Ive had on my two accounts… the system needs some tweaking.
Things holding GW2 back:
Its kittening leadership…
I …. have no words. I guess I’m a little late coming to the party here, but just… wow. SO many conflicting thoughts regarding this.
Main vs Alt
Primary difference: caliber of teammates grouped with due to MMR of the account
I only just started the ranked climb on my alt this passed Saturday morning. Made sure I had it tracked with www.gw2pvp.de
Red = loss (includes forfeits)
Green = win (includes byes)
Ranked games are highlighted in yellowThis only gets interesting when you get to the same division and tier as your main account is atm, before that? It just shows the system works.
So, just an update on this.
I just broke Ruby on my alt. Ruby, 1 pip in. Same place where my main was at my original post. In just 36 games played.
For easier tracking, I will pick up ranked play on my alt account tomorrow and we’ll see how many games it takes to make it to where my main sits now (17 pips in) as opposed to how many games that account has needed (well over 80 games in ruby at this point).
This is a really great analysis. I appreciate all the work you put into this. We recognize the problems that the season 2 matchmaking is causing and are looking into solutions that will provide a good experience and satisfy our goals for the league system.
abolish mmr and just match people randomly within division? Can’t be worse than it is now
They need a combination of S1 and S2 and maybe smarter mmr, as opposed to no mmr.
Why do you need any MMR any way? If you are a strong player you will ascend along with other strong players and eventually settle where your matches will be as close as can be. And on top of it you will do so without tarnishing your prestige because having an even easier climb than you would have had otherwise.
MMR is fun as a statistic to inform you about your team (if you have a regular team) but using it to build soloq teams is problematic.
BTW: Ty for replying here Evan. It is nice to have some feedback from you guys about matters like this.
I’m not a huge fan of the “just throw ‘x number’ of players together” at random ala GW1 FA, JQ or RA. I don’t necessarily want to be teamed with just 4 other ppl that queued at the same time as me so long as they fall in the right pip range.
I got a lot of enjoyment from the 50/50 system because a lot more matches were close and exhilarating The issue with MMR is its simply not smart, nor is it truly “individual.” (If I understand how it presently works)
You’re assuming the pip system alone is not an MMR system. Without the hidden MMR, you will be more likely to find a spot where you get 50/50, but only if they also take the bias out of the pip reward system. No more rebounds, safety walls, and lose 2 pips for 3 game losing streaks.
The hidden system is dual redundant and can only work against the first. Season 1 carried newbs by pairing them with pro players, which held the pro players back. Season 2’s system was just completely divergent based on luck and timing.
Both pips and hidden MMR alone do the same thing. They give you score value when you win or lose. Having 2 systems working at the same time will cause errors and fail to represent actual ranking.
You cannot take out the safeties from a random pug group game, you could if all we had was premade 5v5-s then the team itself has a rating (like in wow arena) you cannot penalize a soloQer that much for what he doesn’t have control over (what the other 4 players are doing)
I had much the same thought. In order for them to truly do what people seemingly want Anet to do, they would have to remove solo q as an option all together. 5-man premades or bust.
Which, if they want to go that route, fine. Just give other alternative route to work towards my legendary goals.
(Keyword is work ladies and gents. I am not asking for anything free here)

If they decide to go toward a reward track I’m backing you 100%. It’s if they insist on going toward a ladder that what I say matters.
Just the way they have set forth how the back pieces are to be done, it’s just a glorified reward track.
If they want to turn it into an actual, competitive ladder, then the back piece, among other things, need to be removed. Titles fine, unique minis fine, hell unique skin fine. 1 of only 2 ways to get the actually legendary tier item…nope.

The difference between gw 1 and 2 in difficulty was that gw 1 had a paty of 5 was it? So for tough enemies you had to plan your skill usage and even leave change up skills and return
It had a party of 8. In the beginner areas it was 4.
It was also entirely instanced and you didn’t have to rely on people.

The Draconic Aegis is one that I’ve listed many times over the last 3 years as one I’d like to see come back (basically any time these types of threads pop up).
I used it and a tormented spear on my monk, along with the Greater Highlander Blade dyed green. (Her theme was a minty green and purple)
It’d be nice to see the Voltaic Spear come back (as a land wielded weapon) too.
I’d like to get the Elemental Sword as well. Maybe with some animation for those dual colored flames?
Sorry I meant by progression “character stats”
For example legendary should have higher stats than ascended
snip
No.
This is not what the game, or it’s predecessor, was developed around.
They have stated that there will be no more gear tiers. No level cap raise. That the game is aimed more at horizontal and cosmetic types of progression.
If stat increases are what you are after, there is a laundry list of other games that you can go play.
We have no desire to be one of those games.
Thank you for your time.
Now get out.
