“We strongly believe that regular balance updates are one of the key pillars of building a successful competitive game. As such, prior to each season, there will be a balance update. "
Technically they have kept to that statement. Remember, we got a “balance patch” just after season 1 ended, which keeps with “before” season 2.
Yeah I chuckled at the patch notes. I don’t consider “bug fix”es to be “minor balance” changes.
A lot of those “bug fixes” affect balance.
For instance revenant skills no longer bypassing evades is pretty significant.
I won’t argue that bug fixes affect balance. However, “bug fix” is not what people equate to “minor balance changes.” Bug fixes are bug fixes, regardless of what they do or don’t affect.
Yeah I chuckled at the patch notes. I don’t consider “bug fix”es to be “minor balance” changes.
Though…maybe they missed a few things. Wouldn’t be the first time they missed info on the patch notes. (And weren’t they removing the Vigilant ammy?)
That’s what I thought Sigmoid, but like I said, I never pay close enough attention. ^.^

You can condi-tranfer it, or you can break it with a stun-break (like popping sprectral armor). I have done both playing as a reaper. In the case of plague sig, which is both a transfer and a stun break, I’m not certain which kicks in against taunt. I never pay close enough attention.
From the wiki:
“Taunt is a condition that forces the affected target to run towards and auto-attack the souce of the taunt, with all other skills disabled except stun breakers. Taunt is like Fear in that it also counts as a control effect, meaning it can be cleared by both condition removal as well as stun breaks.”

Showing off the mammaries is never overused and always welcomed XD XD XD.
I always see them when I look down, they get boring after a while. :P
Lol ^ so much this.
Not to mention my back aches due to mine on occasion. So it’s not like I can forget they are there.
1) Inactivity – do you kick them or keep them on? I’m talking over 3 months inactive and roster space is not the problem.
I’m very lenient with inactives. People take breaks. People have real lives. Generally, if I’m going to be recruiting I’ll clear out people I don’t know well or haven’t been with us as long, but people that have been with me for years, I just let be. There’s a loyalty factor in play there. I do always email people I drop that they are welcome to come back if they so desire, when they come back to the game.
2) The Zero contributors – They hardly ever represent or help the guild in anyway, but they might still be a friend of someone else in the guild.
These people I like to pull aside and discuss with them why they don’t rep and what might make them rep more. I’m not a stickler for 100% rep. My guild is very casual, and people aren’t always on. At which point, I actually encourage people to multi-guild, this way they have people to play with. No reason to rep a guild where no one is online at the time. However, if they essentially never rep, then maybe our guild just isn’t for them. Its not the “home” they’re looking for, and that’s perfectly ok. I don’t want people feeling like they “have” to hang out if they aren’t happy.
3)The off lines (invisible) – they seem to always be set to invisible, you know they have been online as you can tell when they last logged in, but they are never “online”
I’ve never run into this issue. I know people like to set themselves as “offline” when they are pvping, or when they just need some alone time, but I’ve never had someone that was always set this way.
4) “guild chat?! what’s that?” people that just ignore anything in guild chat and never respond or might once in a blue moon when it suites them.
Depends on why they are ignoring guild chat. Are they shy? Anti-social? Or just kittens? In the first couple of cases, it takes time, but with some effort and luv we can usually coax them out of their shell and into talking on occasion. There’s no pressure to do it all the time. Of course, some people just have a hard time typing while playing too (guilty!) so they don’t talk as much when they are actively do something. But give them voice chat, or chat outside the game and they just talk your ear off.
In the final case…I just boot ’em.
I’d like to know how observant you people are of other peoples looks?
I’m also going to go with mildly observant. I turn my character model settings down when I’m in a zerg, this way I can turn body count up (cause I’m normally in wvw), which kind of inhibits observation. When I’m running around the open world with the settings turned back up, I only sort of note in passing what people are wearing or wielding.
What does impress you?
I’m not sure anything impresses me anymore. I used to like finding people with interesting, well paired, mix and match set ups, but there isn’t much that’s “new” out there anymore.
What turns you off?
Garish armor / outfit set ups. Loud, over the top looks just annoy me. This could be due to color choices (“hi, were you kittened by crayola today?”) or multitudes of particle effects, etc.
Well….the next “holiday” that they used to do something for is St Patrick’s Day. So….
…maybe bright green wings, with gold trim, that trail shamrocks? Or golden coins?
Polymock
Maybe some mastery tracks or collections to achieve some unique pieces
More thorough story line. I do like a good story….
Not sure what else off the top of my head….Don’t have time to think about it right now.
I’ve popped “make it rain” before. And was subsequently mobbed by the opposing team. Don’t think they were happy with me trebbing them.
I have noted a high concentration of necros and thieves. At least in the games I played over the weekend. I’d queue as a necro, and there would be 3-5 other necros in the same game. I queue as a thief (was trying to learn) and there would be 3-4 other thieves. In the same game.
So I started queuing as the one I didn’t want to play, and swapped to the other once I loaded in to the match. Seemed to be the only way to make it so there weren’t half a dozen of the same class, that I was trying to play, in the match.
Overall though, I do see a lot of DH and Rev as well. I don’t typically run into too many engis, eles, or mes. And if I do, it’s usually the same few people.
Could we stop with the open world pvp kitten? Please? Thank you.
Considering the mega server exists, this suggestion is kind of moot. They would need to remove the mega server, or at least make some significant changes to it, in order to break servers apart to even open up this option for “pvp invasion” crap. Putting us back in that “maps feel dead” “this server is dead” “there is never anyone to play with” crap. We have enough of this already, even with the mega-server to bring us together.
So lets not. And not say we did.
Thanks.
More they just didn’t think to implement that shortcut is all. Just like they didn’t re-add the f12 → c shortcut to quickly log to your character select screen. that’s another one I’d like to see come back.
+1 here as well. I miss being able to do this.
From what I understood, you will lose 1 pip whether you lose 0-500 or 499-500 in a match. In other words, in a PuG party once you’re down by ~100 points its a GG for your team since there would be no benefit of making the match close anymore.
if thats true then its a bad change, last season i often saw in teamchat things like:
“guys even if we lose , lets score as much as possible so maybe we wont lose a pip”and i think that was a good thing , i remember how when i faced proleagues players and i knew its unlikely that i win, but at least i can try to score as much points as possible to not lose a pip, or maybe even gain one , even if i lose
and if that is not possible anymore then i am sure ALOT of players will just stay in the base once the score hit 300-100, saying things like “well we lost anyway, doesnt matter how many points we score”
I see your point here, and I don’t disagree with it; however my concern is with how that did work in S1. It was entirely dependent upon your personal score whether you gained, lost, or broke even. It tended to encourage a lot more yolo play as opposed to actual teamwork. We need a little bit of a happy medium to encourage teamwork, and encourage the losing team to keep fighting instead of just rolling over.
Maybe I don’t understand your post, but personal score is not a factor in the league system (season 1 or 2).
Then what were the factors used to determine who gained pips, who broke even, and who lost pips on the losing team in S1?
It certainly looked like the top 1 or 2 consistently earned a pip (sometimes 2), despite losing, and the bottom 3 either broke even or lost pip (more often than not, losing a pip). I lost a lot of games, and the only time I recall earning a pip for losing was if I had like the best personal score.
u had a personal chance of winning or losing, and depending on team score at the end u had a personal chance of winning a pip or not losing one. but the personal score never had anything to do w/ it, just coincidence that what u saw w/ top players being the ones to not lose pts or whatever happened
there was a chart somewhere that showed ur expected chances of winning/lose and the pip gain/loss that results. after a match if u gained a pip but lost the match, u could look at the chart to see, well u were only had a 20% chance to win.
Makes for an interesting “coincidence” imo.
I knew that the overall team score, and whether or not win prediction was in your favor factored in. But I’ll have to see if I can find that chart. I’ve never heard it mentioned.
Edit: Found what you’re talking about. I guess I need to frequent reddit more. Everything seems to be on there.
I find it interesting that on a losing team: some could gain a pip, some could lose, and others would not move either way. All in one game. Based on that table, and considering its based on a team score, you’d think everyone would gain or lose the same.

This thread pops up every time a new game or expansion launches. Same topic. Same conversation. The only thing that changes is the competition named.
ESO
Wildstar
Blade & Soul
… etc etc
sigh
Open a support ticket, it’s the only suggestion we can give you. Other than maybe reviewing the naming policy as well.
Reviewing the naming policy?
That’s a good joke! My name doesn’t break any policy. It’s completely inoffensive; as I pointed out there’s ARMOR IN THE GAME called “Stalker” so if my name is offensive, Anet should change the name of the armor too.
It never hurts to be aware of precisely what their rules are. This way when support argues the issue with you (and they might) you are aware and can argue your point accordingly.
I understand that you’re kittened off, but I didn’t do it so chill.
Edit: Also, just because you or I don’t consider the name to be offensive, doesn’t mean anything either. That decision lies completely in Anet’s hands. Like I said, review the policy. It states that quite plainly.

So….what I’m hearing from this thread (and a couple others I’ve browsed on this specific topic) is that I should finally do something with these?
Yes, you can sell them to make a nice profit or you can wait (maybe price will still go up, maybe not).
I might. Although with my luck, about the time I clean them out, they’ll announce Jeweler 500. XD

I’d kind of like to go after Bubbles next personally. I can see the underwater gripe that some have though. Granted, they could get around that though, just by having Bubbles rise from the depths.
But, assorted hints already point us in other directions. Hell, considering what happens in HoT, we could be heading for Jormag next. I could see a tie in there, and that would ok too.
Aaaaaand, it’s not a bug. Flesh just stuck this in his dev tracking post. Anet put it up on twitter that they expanded this:
We’ve also raised the Storage Expander upgrade limit by two–you can now have up to 2,000 items per material storage stack.
stunned gasp
Yes please, could we get some confirmation as to whether this is a bug or not?
If not, first thing I’m doing when I get home tonight is buying gems and getting these.
And then I’m going out farming…..

I had those same feelings once upon a time. Had them in Factions with Kaineng and again when I first ventured into the HoT maps. It just takes some time to get used to. Once you “learn” your way around, its not quite so bad anymore.
I still play longbow / greatsword ranger (not druid, ranger)
I play MM necro
I have a greatsword necro build
I play staff ele with fire, water, and arcane
I play d/d (or d/w) air, earth, tempest
I also have a staff + sword/torch build for mesmer (chaos, dueling, inspiration)
None of them are “meta”.
Do they always work? No. But neither do they completely bomb out either. Depends on the battlefield. Of course, I only play at mid-tier as well…

I want an umbrella glider. So I can totally make a Mary Poppins based character…
Would require some animation rework though, so…probably not an option.
…Though if you could…then you could do kites as glides too…
Dark Crystal reference! Gosh….been so long…
..and I feel old again…
Last time I felt thrilled in PvE? I dunno… I’m not a “loot centric” player, so I don’t think I’ve ever really gotten excited over a drop. Unless it was a skin I was specifically farming for. Which is more of “yay!” reaction, as to opposed to a “HELL YES!” reaction. Generally speaking I enjoy my open world play, even when it’s something as silly as farming mithril. Which I did…for an hour last night. ANd whooped the snot out of the vet risen chickens in Orr…twice. Felt pretty good (I remember when those things felt difficult ages ago).
Of course… anytime I survive a zerg on zerg class in EotM is pretty “thrilling” too. Gets the adrenaline pumping, and I end up grinning like a loony. Winning 1v1s on point in sPvP has that effect too.
So maybe PvE is more about “relaxed” play, as opposed to adrenaline pumping wall bouncing hyperness induced by pvp based activities.
And begging people to join JQ so I could map that arena. Such a headache.
The funny thing is that it’s now Fort Asepnwood you need to beg people to join in order to map.
I know! And it’s completely saddening. I love FA. Was always fun holding a door (even post turtle disenchantment) and listening to people rage.
Ah, I was just looking for the necklace (since that’s what the OP specified), and was ignoring the raid only drops (since not everyone raids).
Definitely have to agree with 500 Jewelcrafting though. Everyone keeps saying its not necessary, but it very much is.
Ouch.
You don’t have to stay in AB to progress that track, if you don’t want. Any HoT map is sufficient. Maybe see events are getting done in one of the others?
Or check LFG to see if there are taxis going for active AB maps?

Yup, I could work with that. Options are always a good thing.
If I recall correctly, Flesh, the krait point in the HI isn’t counted in that 189 total displayed for map completion. Just like the wvw, dt, and sw HCs aren’t included in the number. Those 189 are just the HCs across the core maps.
OP, you’ve moused over every map and checked that they all say x/x for HC?

Mort, I live in the US, and from time to time, even I have ping issues (kitten you ATT!). My options are….suck it up, or buy a different home. Sorry, moving isn’t an option for me for an myriad of reasons we won’t get in to here.
The point is that there needs to be more options for gaining enough mastery points that aren’t entirely ping dependent. Developers can take that into consideration. Its not like they don’t realize ping is a potential issue which players really have very little control over. Its part of the reason they made the changes to gliding, that they did (and I thank them so very much for that).

Silver on adventures can be done by anyone.
By anyone with a decent ping. My understanding is that some people that regularly run with high ping have a bit of an issue with this.
Different builds use different things. I was working on a sinister set for my necro originally, think I might just do Viper on her instead.
I enjoy a combination of celestial and zerk on my ele, just for the hell of it.
As far as I’m aware, this one doesn’t exist in trinket form. I believe this is Occam’s for weapons and armor. Maybe we’ll see corresponding trinkets as part of LS3 or something. That’s how we got Nomad and Sinister trinkets
Yep, GWAMM is certainly not quick to get and is not for the faint-hearted. I see posts on here complaining about GW2 “grind” and reflect on some of those GW1 GWAMM tasks. Cartographer anyone?
Oh gosh… I remember trying to do Cartographer without texmod. I got most of it, but some of those tiny obscure corners, UGH!
And begging people to join JQ so I could map that arena. Such a headache.
I can imagine Legendary Guardian is just fun now. (sarcasm)
Anet explained (sort of) when they introduced outfits that each armor weight uses a different mesh for programming. Its because of this system that they couldn’t “just make town clothes into armor skins.” Town cloths were essentially a 4th weight class with it’s own mesh system.
In order to do what a lot of people have asked for them to do (let us use any skin on any weight), this system would require reworking. They may or may not be entertaining such, though I highly doubt we’d hear anything if they were, until they were positive they could do it. However, I don’t think it would be financially worth while for them to sink the time into it.
I wouldn’t mind Tengu. But I think I would prefer to see either Kodan or Largos first (entirely dependent on which dragon we got at the time).
1. What should I start doing to ease me back into the game?
Depending on how long you’ve been gone, some might recommend starting a new character and playing “from scratch.”
If you still have the general hang of the game, try starting with things you used to enjoy. Or try jumping into some of the easier open world content (some world bosses, some zerg farming, some hearts) just to relearn the ropes. Up the difficulty as you start feeling more comfortable again (shouldn’t take too long).
2. How do new classes work? do i need HOT to get them? i’m talking about druid etc..
Yes, you need to own HoT to get the elite specs for the classes. To unlock the elite spec, you need to spend hero points on the track. To fully unlock the elite, you need 250 hero points.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hero_point
After which, it’s just a matter of slotting the elite spec into the elite slot on the specializations tab.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Specialization
Depending on how long you’re been gone – hero points replaced skill points, and only come from leveling from 1-80, and after 80 only from skill challenges, now named hero challenges. Specializations are basically what they renamed the trait lines.
3. Is HOT worth buying now or should i wait until i’m back on track with the game?
Personally, I love the elite specs and I’ve spent hours in Edge of the Mists farming scrolls (as an alternative to running around the maps for hero challenges), so I would absolutely say “yes, get it!” BUT, I am biased.
The better advice would probably be:
- get back into the swing of the game
- determine if its something you enjoy
- do some research on what HoT offers to determine if you feel its worth its price tag
- then buy it if so
Feel free to toss me any more questions.
I’ll answer them if I can.

No please do not start yet! I hope they fix necro, engi and thief before.
According to the “State of the Game – Q1 2016” posted by Colin, Season 2 starts Feb 23rd.
On February 23, we’ll launch a brand-new in-game PvP League season.
I don’t think so, but that’s just my personal preference. The down time gives me breathing room to do other things, considering I’m not a “full time” pvper.
Wtf are you on about. It gives you breathing room to do other things? Lol wtf? You realise you could just stop and start during a season and it doesnt matter.
During the season, some people feel more pressured to play, due to the time limit involved. (Not everyone plays 8+ hours a day after all) They have the desire to push themselves as far as they absolutely can, which means time dedicated. As such, having an “off season” allows for those people to take a step back and “breathe.” It’s really not any different than a “normal” sport.
Its a terrible thing to remove your only competitive pvp mode for 4 weeks.
Unranked is still there. It’s still conquest. It’s still pvp. As for “competitive,” it’s no more or less so than ranked, due to how the season had been set up. You had just as many people in ranked that didn’t give a kitten whether they won (or where in fact, intentionally losing to manipulate the system). Without an active season, that wouldn’t change. So the only difference between unranked and ranked, at that point, would be maps available.
Please, stop making me chuckle.
Lol.
Just 3?
Try this one… it was fun
Who hates this game now because of HoT?

I don’t hate the game. I don’t even hate HoT. I do occasionally dislike what HoT has done to the game.
I do play a bit less right now, but it’s not entirely the expansion’s fault.
The game just feels lonely for me. HoT is all ‘must group, must group, follow the bouncing dorito’ content and I’m nobody anymore. Another barcode in the mob moving en mass through whatever meta event.
I still enjoy playing the core content. And I enjoy hopping into EotM or pvp, but I get bored because there’s no one to talk to or play with anymore, that I know. And apparently, I’m not very good at making new friends. (Yet I have like a mile long followers list. Very creepy) shrug
I have seen ranked and unranked games as bad as that…yeah. Just the pit falls of solo q-ing in conjunction with the…uh….“interesting” matchmaking system, I guess.
