Sigh
Well, thank you all for your astonishing comments…
They fill me with… oh, so much more want to see the world burn…!
But anyway! As for they Any and All – it is true, that Any doesn’t neccsarily mean All.
But if you say for ANY of you charachter, and – again, like I said – with the price they ask for, I think it would be fair of them to just add a simple code that makes it send multiple copies to each one of your charachters. And it isn’t about this being “Ugh! To hard rocketu-siencu bullkitten…”
It’s about a quality of life improvment that they could easily provide to us players that pay for it.
But, clearly, you fanboys are to dumb to see waht things could be, and jsut accept things as they are – as long as it means you justify your investments to yourself…!In all seriousness, it’s not any different than buying say… a bag slot. You can use that on “any” character too, you don’t automatically assume you buy it and you get that extra slot unlocked on all your characters do you?
You could compare it to how buying an armor skin in the gem shop used to work, but it only semi applies now with the wardrobe. You only get one physical item which you can apply to a character. Additional items still require some type of “investment” though.
Just because it says you can use it on “any” character does not mean you should automatically assume that you get it on “all” characters. Just requires little bit of common sense.
Taking it further, and thinking about it logically, considering what the infinite gathering tools are – ie convenience items – they are an excellent item for Anet to monetize. So yeah, they are going to want you to buy multiple if you don’t want to keep swapping them from character to character. Just giving you one for every character would be foolish.
(And once upon a time, they were soulbound after you equipped them to a character)
The thing about bags though is that people don’t usually take the time to move them between characters so it isn’t the same compared with gathering tools because people actually do move them around. Wardrobe is an easy answer and fix. It will make the game even better than it is.
Some people don’t move their tools either. shrug But it’s more a discussion of the wording involved and the expectation of that wording.
I don’t think I agree with your idea of sticking them in the wardrobe, which is for skins. Unless you’re talking about allowing us to simply skin our regular tools (like the ori mining pick) with the infinite look if we own the infinite. However, I don’t think that’s what you’re going for.

Generally speaking I don’t notice most bugs. The only one that really gets me though is the immob bug, and only when I’m pvping. Its killed me due to inopportune “stuck” moments more than a few times.
And now we know why he’s called “The Brave.” XD
In all seriousness though, congratz OP. Well done.
Wow, we can just taste the pve hate this morning. Wtf
I support this. Give me something else if you must, just not that…
My alt isn’t a f2p, its a full HoT account. The last time I played ranked pvp on it was back when the leaderboard was still around. (Long kitten time ago) I played a handful of games on mes (and did really well / got really lucky). I only recently started pvping on it again, its been all unranked (for obvious reasons) until I hopped into ranked over the weekend. Day and night difference between it and my main.
“New characters begin with five bag slots and a Starter Backpack equipped in the first slot. Up to three further bag slots can be purchased through the Gem Store, for a total of eight bag slots per character.”
We had a similar discussion regarding unranked a little while back. Apparently they track profession specific mmr, but it isn’t applied to match making for a variety of reasons.
We still track profession MMR, but it won’t being used for matchmaking unless we have some form of profession locking.
Allowing people to swap to other professions not yet on the team isn’t something we can support. This becomes ridiculously weird/impossible to support when more than one person tries to do it at a time.
We could possibly matchmaking off of unique builds and still allow more than one profession per team, but that means no one would be allowed to change their build then entire time they’re queued or during warm up. Forgot you were testing that other weapon set? Oops!
You don’t need to obtain something of such big value by playing a game mode that you can’t even use it in. WvW on the other hand can use something like that. (if anyone still plays it)
I agree, a set for WvW would be good too. This is something I’ve actually been saying for some time now (not just regarding a legendary set, but regarding mode specific rewards in general).
I don’t agree with the opinion that you shouldn’t be able to obtain it in pvp just because it doesn’t have any “use” in the mode. That never stopped the out cry about legendary weapons (and not being able to get them via pvp, having to actually go pve, etc) long, long ago. It doesn’t matter that the stats can’t be used, even pvpers like having the skins.
If they were to do armor (say an armor that matched the back piece maybe?) that would be nifty. (And I do think pvp having a uniquely skinned legendary set is a good idea)
Unfortunately they’d either need to stretch out the time it takes to achieve (2 pieces this year, 2 pieces next, or some such) or they’d need to make the requirements more stringent. Given some of the requirements for the back piece…. I could see a lot of people up in arms either route they went.
in pve legendary armor will be created as a whole set not piece by piece. meaning if they do that in pvp it will be the same.
Yes, but in pve you have tiers of collections and multiple raid wings required in order to complete it. We’ve been told that “Envoy Armor I: Experimental Armor” is just the first tier of the collection, and it will require all 3 wings in the first raid to be able to complete it. We don’t know if the final result will require 3 collection tiers (like Ad Infinitum) or 4 tiers (like the HoT legendaries), or how many more raid wings will be required per collection. We know raid wing 3 comes this summer (June-ish I think?) which completes the first collection, but how long do we have to wait for the follow ups?
They would need to make something close to the same difficulty for a pvp legendary armor for it to be done “right.” One method should not be “easier” than another.
“I know I am the constant but my teammates are still bad.’’
That isn’t logic, thats excuses. Sometimes you get bad teammates, sometimes you get good teammates. So consider those two cases a wash. In the games where its pretty even for teammate skill, YOU make the difference! It really isnt that hard to comprehend.
If you continue to blame the system for all your failures and yourself for all your success you will never improve. Its really that simple.
I’m not explicitly blaming my teammates and only my teammates. There is more to it than just “they aren’t skilled enough.” There is team composition. There is communication. There is synergy. Granted the matchmaking can’t look at all of it, but some of the people…I’m sorry, but you can’t carry it. I’ve seen enough games where pro players like Chaith or Helseth couldn’t carry their pugs and they are absolutely miles ahead of me in terms of skill. Regardless of what anyone claims, you cannot carry every time.
You people keep getting caught up saying “you cant carry every game” well no duh, you cant carry EVERY game but if you are actually good you should be able to carry MOST games over a long period of time, you might get some lose streaks every now and then, but pretty much anything past 5 losses in a row is most likely a personal skill problem.
Defaulting back to the “how am i supposed to carry this team of 5 quadriplegic warriors” isnt going to improve your games, your GOING to lose games, but if your actually good and play to win EVERY game, you will eventually carry enough games to progress, otherwise, your skill could be in question
People citing 10+lose streaks are either having an UNGODLY amount of bad luck ( i doubt it), OR they really just arnt as good as they claim to be
I cite it because a lot of people are claiming you can. Which, I’d love to see them do. I’m well aware that I am not uber great, and I keep saying as such. However, I find it questionable that I keep getting paired with people that don’t rotate, don’t talk, can’t stand the thought that far might be an option, and think running 1 by 1 into the mass of red at mid is a good idea.
When I keep getting these kinds of players over and over again, they just drag me down with them. There are have been several games this season where I have been on a team that won, then in the very next round it get 2 new pugs, and 2 from the previous losing team, a team we beat by more than a couple of points at times. And I try not to judge too harshly, cause we’re all learning, but when I see them just do the same kitten and we end up getting stomped, it’s super frustrating.
I fully expect to lose games, that’s fine. I can fully appreciate that ruby is probably where I belong, skill wise. I’m aware I’m not perfect, that I don’t always make the right call, or may not rotate optimally. I will be the first person to tell you, quite clearly that yup, I’m still learning.
A lot of people seemed to have issues with the in-game advert in the upper left corner than they couldn’t shut off last season. Might be why they didn’t do them. Or maybe it’s just a bug. Who knows.
I do kind of miss the pvp buff though.

Main vs Alt
Primary difference: caliber of teammates grouped with due to MMR of the account
I only just started the ranked climb on my alt this passed Saturday morning. Made sure I had it tracked with www.gw2pvp.de
Red = loss (includes forfeits)
Green = win (includes byes)
Ranked games are highlighted in yellowThis only gets interesting when you get to the same division and tier as your main account is atm, before that? It just shows the system works.
Well, considering I made more progress on my alt (mid sapphire) in just 2 days (like 10ish hours?) of play, vs 2 weeks-ish of play on my main…its much faster. I wasn’t tracking my account on the pvp tracker until recently, wish I’d known earlier. Right now, my alt is just 12 pips away from where my main sits, which broke into Ruby on the 12th.
Yasi has a valid point about only once you reach Ruby will it get really interesting. That being said, logically, knowing how the algorithm works, once you hit Ruby with that W/L ratio (instead of your main W/L ratio) you should avoid a lot of the effect of being too close to the bottom of the barrel when teams are made. If you are of that level or higher it will likely show by you progressing instead of stalling because the teammate you “deserve” will be of better quality on your alt account than on you main. In other words, 80% of what decide the outcome of any match all things being equal should be of better quality.
I wasn’t necessarily saying he didn’t have a point. I was just pointing out the drastic difference I was seeing, even between the amber/emerald/sapphire climb that I previously experienced via my main. 10hrs-ish in 2 days vs I have no clue how many hours over the course of two weeks play.
I plan on continuing to track progress. So we’ll see how it goes.

-Repeatedly feeding mid
-Skipping home entirely to mob beast
-Everyone following the thief far out the gate (at which point thief afks in base the rest of the game)
-Capping home and then rushing lord 60 seconds into the match
Personal Favorite:
I’m 1v2ing a tempest and dh on far (which is neutral, had been, for like..ever), 2 of my teammates come from mid to help me and insta die to traps while running up to the point. sigh

Titan it’s extremely hard to swallow your arguement when on one account I get people that feel even so much as considering far is anathema and hardly say a word, not even to call who is taking home. Yet on the other, we can regularly push 1-3-1 or even 1-2-2 successfully and rotations are being called out in chat.
Yes I’m aware I am the constant. However, I don’t have the power to turn coal into a freaking diamond despite how hard I may try. The game “thinks” I suck because I have less than a 50% win rate on my main (think I’m down to about 48% now) while on my alt its over 60%. It’s like night and day difference.
I have no issue stating that I am not a great player. I’m pretty solidly average; however, even average players can shine when given the right tools to work with. I’m not asking to be carried. I’m not asking for legendary rank. I just want some decent freaking games!

1) what are the best ways to do this? I was thinking I could buy it online with my credit card and then give him the HoT key so he could download it.
This is what I did for my husband’s / my alt account. I bought both of our xpacs via the website. The keys were emailed to me. I logged into my account here on the website (Services → MyAccount) and registered the key to the appropriate account.

Lol, I can only imagine what that would do to queue times in ranked. As it is, some people whine when they have to wait 5 minutes for ruby. We’ve had complaints of hour long waits at legend, which has actually led to several legend ranked players to either a) level alt accounts or b) just queue unranked anyway.
Reducing the pool even further would just make ranked laughable. Ranked needs to have some “shiny” reward to work towards because, let’s face it, we ain’t playing for the “enjoyment” of it by this point. If we were playing for enjoyment and decent match ups, we’d be queuing unranked.
Funny…I swear I’ve heard this suggestion before….
…like a billion frickin times.
Funnily enough, we just had someone bring up the mount suggestion and complain we didn’t have enough waypoints in HoT.
lmao
I’ve seen quite a few very good thiefs that knew how to do their job. Thiefs honestly, atm, are ok and balanced in PvP..it’s all down to the player.
Warriors?…myeaaaaaah…..i won’t comment.
I’ve seen some good thieves too.
And I’ve seen some really, really bad ones, which made me as a thief look really, really good. Which is saying something, cause I’m awful at thief. (No not teefing in the same game, just relatively speaking.)
The same goes for warriors. Some good, some bad. Even if they aren’t in the best place right now.
And of course, it depends on what you’re up against too.
April Fools came early I see….
Well, actually, this year it came two Tuesdays before April, the same time as it did last year.

Must have missed last year’s. Thanks for the chuckle.
Warrior: Weezer – Why Bother?
Well if we’re going down this path. Stone Sour – Bother would work well for Warrior too. lol
I have distinctly mixed feelings on raids, if I’m being honest.
On one hand, they aren’t anything more than elaborate dungeons with better challenges. On the other, it’s another segregation tool for certain types of players. You all know who I’m talking about, and you can’t say that they don’t bring some negativity into the game. Maybe not as much as many feared.
It’s probably content that I’ll never get a chance to do. Not that I don’t want to try it. I just not a social butterfly. Making friends is not my strong suit.
And I’m still miffed that raids are the only way to acquire the only available set of legendary armor.
I pretty much always use YSIM in pvp. I’ve tried going back to Consume Conditions but with 1.25s cast time, I have a difficult time getting it cast. I lag, I interrupt myself, or someone else interrupts it.

Warrior:

Art of Dying – Die Trying
Necro:
Sixx A.M. – This is Gonna Hurt

Regardless, without the ability to backslide into a lower division, a glorified reward track is what this remains. As such, making legendary is going to be a goal for many, if not a majority of players. All it takes is time and determination…and some matchmaking luck with this current system.
That’s the reason why we should get rid of that bad designed league system.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Your-Top-5-Suggestions-to-ANET-sPvP/first#post6032969
I’ve browsed that. I only agree with some of the suggestions personally.
My favorite is winning with one group of people for 2-3 games, and then next game ending up with 2-3 of the people I just helped beat (sometimes by more than a few points) in the past several matches. I swear matchmaking hates me.
Leagues are not a reward track. Not everyone is entitled to progress past ruby.
Ya know… people keep saying this; however, the way Anet set it up contradicts this statement…
I know that it’s easier to gain pips then to lose them, but this thread is full of people complaining that they can’t progress past ruby. So I wanted to make clear that it isn’t the goal for a league system to have everyone entering top league.

It has been stated that even after the new back piece is released (which I’m assuming will be this winter, they said a new one every year), we’ll still be able to continue working towards the old one.

I’m gong to say it again, here I’ll even emphasize it:
PvE is more than just dungeons!!!!!
It is also open world event trains. Solo and small group map exploration. World boss training. Even raids and fractals.
Its. Not. Just. Dungeons.
However, yes, you will find some rather…not nice…people if you’re trying to do instanced content (not just dungeons, but fractals and raids too). People that expect you to have wikied and youtubed the content, and as such just “magically know” wtf you’re doing.
Not everyone is like this, and those type of people exist in pvp too. I find a metric ton of them it seems.
I broke into Ruby over the weekend (think it was early Saturday), and lost every game since. My “give a kitten” is apparently finally broken because I don’t think I care anymore. It doesn’t matter how well I play, I just can’t apparently carry hard enough, so I’ve pretty much stopped trying.
At this point im considering investing into teamspeak server so I can voip too.
Just get Discord. Free with same or better voice quality.
(edited by LanfearShadowflame.3189)
How do you even know you’ll be able to switch the stats? I mean, I assume this too but it’s not like it’s a fact. Like I said, it’s all speculation.
No, I’m pretty sure it was said somewhere that it was stated to have this functionality. And it makes sense that it would, considering the backpiece does….(at least, I think it does. Don’t have one yet)
(edited by LanfearShadowflame.3189)
I realise this will sound strange but to me HoT and the new expansion are largely unrelated.
Nope, not strange to me at all. Which is why anytime someone poses this question my answer is always “depends on if I like what I see.” Each expansion needs to be judged based on its own merit. Yes, it’s wise to keep prior failings in mind, but just because expansion ‘a’ doesn’t suit your fancy doesn’t necessarily mean expansion ‘b’ will be more of the same.
You will be missed, Colin.
Everything else I keep trying to say keeps coming off as corny, so I’ll just leave it as:
Blessed Be.
I think it would be more interesting to get a quest chain / trek / collection / whatever that taught use the ability to add and “save” runes on armor. Where you would need to physically acquire the rune and add to each piece, to slowly build up your rune swapping options. As opposed to just do ‘x’ and get a rune that does it all. I’d like to sort of see similar for sigils.
It would increase the demand slightly for the less used ones, because some people are completionists and won’t be happy unless they have them all. And other people can just add the half dozen or so they want.
shrug Just my 2c
Depends on if I like what I see when they start talking about it. More than likely, yes, if just for the elite specs that we know will come with it.
I never said it was smart. I simply stated that they considered it “acceptable.” Whether you or I agree is irrelevant.
That’s why season 2 will make more people leave and less people buy shiny things from the shop. That’s what Anet should consider when they think it’s acceptable.
I still don’t know why anyone after years of experience in the gaming industry thinks it’s a good thing to mix premades with solo players. That never worked in any game.
They have to consider more than just that though. They need consider the mode’s population, the sub-group populations within the whole, the affects these kind of changes make on queue time, etc etc. Its not like they can just flip a switch and everyone will be happy. It just doesn’t work like that. No matter what route they take, someone is going to be unhappy.
We play together ever since, yeah sometimes we face enemy premades with voip while we do not use such a thing.
But do you know what so cool about that?
– No more blowouts.
– No more rage in losing because I know everyone is capable and they did what they thought was the right thing at the time
– No one talks back at me
– No one AFKs
– They all cleave and stomp and peel and ABOVE ALL ELSE
– They avoid outnumbered fights, instead they/we rotate somewhere else, even if it costs us a capture point. After being stuck at sapphire T1 from soloQ I went up into ruby fighting teams of primo legends all the freaking time. But I kittening did it. Got me second tier in ruby, lost some pips, it got late. Will continue later otnight
No, you’re not allowed to do that! Making friends is against the rules! Go back to being miserable!
Still miserable and frustrated here. I’m sure I can make up for Raven’s good luck with my bad (and then some).
As I said in another, similar thread, this is considered an acceptable match up. The only match permutation that is not allowed is 5 v 1,1,1,1,1 which is not what the screenshot shows. That is 5 v 2,1,1,1. Not much better, but falls within their “acceptable” match ups.
That just shows how stupid “acceptable” is defined. You will, under normal circumstances always lose against a group when you are a 1,1,1,1,1 team.
I never said it was smart. I simply stated that they considered it “acceptable.” Whether you or I agree is irrelevant.
Read what the statement actually says. Not what you think it says.
No… those should come as alternative legendary back packs via different modes.
Ok, that would be fine too, so long as the wings looks identical to the Ascension. If they looked different, like the Fractal wings, then that would be somethng else entirely, like someone saying “I’d like chocolate cake.” “Sorry, only Billy gets chocolate cake, but you can have some carob cake, it’s basically the same.” It kitten-well is not “basically the same.”
All with different skins. It incentivizes participation in those modes if you want a particular skin.
No.
None of that.
Elements designed to encensivize you to play different systems should be short and sweet, achievable within a day or so, not over several months. They should give you enough time to decide whether you enjoy that content, but then, if you decide that you do NOT enjoy that content, you should be free to do something else, prize in hand, rather than having to continue to grind away at somethign you do not enjoy for several months if you want that thing.
In current terms, the “Recruit’s Wings of Glory” is probably a perfectly fine goal along those lines. They cost ten tickets, which you can get by passing out of Amber division. If you get through Amber and still aren’t having fun, then you shouldn’t have to stick around.
This is not how games, especially MMOs, work Ohoni. Shinies are the easiest reward with which to entice players out of their ‘comfort zone’ and into trying other game components. As such, those shinies need to have a modicum of uniqueness to be the draw. If it’s just the skin you’re after, then it should absolutely have specific requirements, such as being locked to pvp. If you’re after the functionality, then it needs to be readily available via multiple means.
