Ladies and gentlemen, what are forums for, if not to ask questions? (And, I was actually referring to map chat with my comment, not necessarily forums as the mentality carries over to in game too) To have conversations regarding topics we feel need discussing? And occasionally (ok super often) to whine and blow off steam.

“Well search for the answer first”
Considering the search function for the forum itself is borked, and most people don’t know about the google option, some tolerance might be in order. Perhaps instead of telling them “look it up” a more constructive response on how might be better. Goodness knows we tolerate innumerable duplicates of certain other threads….

“They are just shifting the work”
Really? Its so much work for someone that knows the answer to choose to take the time to answer. Which people did, because that’s what people do in this community. If you don’t want to, fine, that’s completely your choice. If you don’t know, you’re under no obligation to go look it up for them. However, it is also not your right to tell them or otherwise imply they are somehow wrong for asking.

Yes, he is asking people if they would maybe the first time they mention something to not abbreviate it. This actually isn’t an unreasonable request. Granted most people still wont do it.

“Not entitled to an answer”
You’re right, no ones entitled to an answer. However the chances that no one has one iota of politeness and knows the answer is very slim.

“When I have a question, I go look it up”
Wonderful for you. I do too generally. However, like a lot people, if I have the answer and someone asks, I generally don’t have an issue taking 60 seconds to share the knowledge. I may even go so far as to give them the wiki link for future use or metabattle or how to search the forums or a few others. Believe it or not, there are actually people that aren’t aware of these tools.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Would I be forced to change a character name?

LanfearShadowflame.3189

Potentially yes.

Considering we’ve had someone on here previously that was upset because they were being forced to change their character name for exactly this reason. Name in question: Moto. Player had an Asura with the name well before SAB came into play (according to the information we were provided). They got the “you must change your name” error. The forums advice was to take the issue up with Customer Service and argue his case. Don’t know how it ever worked out, but if they did make him change after he had the name first (if that was indeed the case), then I call bullkitties on that.

Lol Necrotic. I love people like you. Cause playing a game and trying to enjoy yourself is all about research right? Lets do some work so we can play a game.

I agree w/ Necrotic. When it comes to the choice of doing the research yourself or expecting others to do the work for you… well, do the kitten research yourself. Often it takes just as much time to do the research yourself as it does to post the question. If you still can’t find the info THEN ask… that’s cool.

~EW

There’s a difference between a simple question (like “hey what’s the abbreviation mean”) and something a lot more in depth though. Basically what you’re saying is that its not ok to ask a kitten question in map chat for something so simple. Goddess forbid we bother anyone with a simple question right? Because if you can’t be bothered to answer what an abbreviate means, I can’t imagine you can be bothered to help with anything else either (“anyone seen ‘x’ boss” “how long before ‘x’ is up” etc etc) . We should just tell everyone to make sure they have at least a second monitor and keep the wiki open.

And I wish they would bring the Marionette back as another meta event boss, on a long timer like Teq.

Agreed, me too. Maybe not quite the same as last time, since Scarlet is dead. Would have to be possessed or powered by something new for the sake of The Lore. Maybe, Steam Creatures have started to advance their own AI type thing or something on those lines.

Or maybe some Asura decided to tinker and things got out of hand… not like that would be a first

I can imagine that Asura being Taimi xD

It needs to involve raptors in some way, as Ploint in Metrica Province said, “Any plan that involves raptors is, by design, foolproof.”

So….she’s dragging the Marionette remains into the jungle, maybe to a ley line point for energy purposes, and she needs the raptors bones cause she can’t find the right filaments… yup…I can see this

Some how we end up a part of a whole re-activation chain, and then we have to beat it down after it goes haywire. Check.

“CC” Stands for Crowd Control and “DS” stands for Dragons Stand, Which is one of the games maps. Guys if u dont know what these Abbreviations are u can ask here or in game im sure others will tell you.

“DS” is also used to abbreviate “Death Shroud” as opposed to “RS” for “Reaper Shroud.” Although “DS” is used interchangeably for them too, and is more common. So, it’s all about context.

Which is why it needed to go. Keeping a map that was disliked by a majority of players is not good for business. And Spirit Watch map choosers may be stupid to you but those same people are cursing you when you vote for hammer. The joys of people being different.

Please note my previous post where I state that I don’t vote for Skyhammer. I don’t vote for Spirit Watch either. I will always vote for whatever the other option is. Stupid people aren’t any “smarter” on Spirit Watch, so it may as well go too as it’s just as disliked.

When you say people got what they asked for, who exactly are you talking about? Who asked for grinding stats-based progression?

When I say “people” I mean “people.” I try to leave it very general. Typically the largest or loudest prevail (not always are they the same). Just because you or I didn’t desire the change doesn’t mean it wasn’t asked for.

I liked playing GW1 because it was pretty, it was fun and I could do all kinds of crazy things with my monk/build…and it felt like a genuine game, while being true to the fantasy mmo genre, it was different to games like wow which attracted many new players.

I played GW1 as well, for years. I still play from time to time. In fact, I was just working through some Proph missions with a friend this weekend. I get where you’re coming from, to an extent, but GW2 isn’t GW1. We knew this well before launch.

you could change your secondary at will.

Sure, you could change you secondary “at will.” After you achieved Ascension, Weh No Su, or “Hunted” (depend on what campaign(s) you had). After which, you had to “do” things to change your secondary. For example, in Prophecies, it required you to go back to CD, and follow a quest chain. It wasn’t until they added Profession Changers (or maybe it was just a change to thier functionality. which was what late Factions, early Nightfall time period? its been a while) that you could really truly change your secondary at will, and only to any that you purchased the unlock for on that character (and you still have to be ascended/weh no su/hunted).

Yup, you had to unlock it. Have to unlock pretty much everything in both games. In both games full weapon unlock comes pretty early in the overall experience. The fastest I ever did it in GW was something like 4 hours (perhaps 5) from character creation to ascension. Much faster in GW2 of course, but still part of character progression, and still 50% more weapons for my main in GW.

I ended up preferring Factions for building a new character. If you did all of the shing jea quests you hit 20 before leaving the island, and then you could get Weh no Su in less than half an hour after hitting the mainland. Wooo nostalgia. I feel like starting a new character now. XD

Nope. I’d leave it as a mule character. It can gather birthday gifts (I have use for the scrolls and boosters), and kitted out with full bags, gives me “free” storage. Additionally, you could leave him somewhere (end of jumping puzzle or something) where you’d like to log in once a day and collect something (like flax?). And, if we get any type of content that can be done repeatedly for shinies (like lunar festival quests in GW1) he gives you one more option there.

On the other, this also sort of implies that the HoT power creep isn’t going away. Which I’m not pleased about. Sort of squashes the hope that they might still bring elite specs in line.

Idk the way i see it, also considering the ranger sword auto attack change that they tweeted, is that they are listening to the player base because both of thees things are something that was brought up by the players (and believe me i have been making post for sword change for like a year now).
So they might bring elites more in line, we shall see.

They’ve always “listened” to some extent. Not always do they act, or if they do, in the fashion we expect or desire. That’s something I’ve been pointing out for years now.

I feel like GW2’s game mechanics are purely about quantity rather than quality of gameplay.

Ha, and here I just wrote in another thread that legendaries only reflect the amount of time you are willing to grind… quantity over quality indeed.

Legendaries really aren’t a good example. They are intended to be a time sink grind. Just like Oby and Vabbian armor were.

They aren’t a good example? Because that’s the exact same way masteries, scribing (and guild halls), PvP leagues, fractals (agony resistance) work.

Pretty sure that’s quantity over quality. And I know that the devs are not able to create enough content over time to keep people busy, but really, if people enjoy themselves they will keep playing even if there’s nothing to grind for.

And GW2 does have a lot of nice content, but there really should be more tools for the players to entertain themselves with (i.e. sandbox elements).

Masteries are only a grind if you insist on farming them. With the exception of the hard stops to story progression on your first character, which only applies to players that bother playing the story. Still, beyond that, we knew exactly what masteries would be like when they announced them, and the feedback given during betas was that we wanted them to be grindy.

Scribing, I agree, no excuse for that. We’ll see how that gets changed tomorrow.

Halls, just aren’t small guild friendly. My understanding is that large-ish guilds don’t really feel there’s an issue.

I’m not touching pvp leagues. People got what they asked for, which kittened the average player over.

Fractals…again, people got what they asked for. They wanted that grinding progression.

Considering the huge fuss over “lack of content,” the whole “quantity” argument just makes me chuckle. Obviously if they were going for quantity, we’d have more. Now wouldn’t we?

Change race

Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189

LanfearShadowflame.3189

As others have said, there is no item to change your character’s race “after” you have started playing.

At launch, this was something that was discussed as a design decision. They stated that they didn’t want players to be able to just change race willy nilly, and wanted people to actually have to think about which race they wanted to play, and to have the choice mean something. And by mean something, they meant story wise, cosmetically, and flavor. They did not want to class lock by race, or make racial skills a “big thing” so as not to pressure players to play specific races for specific purposes.

Eventually, after multiple race change requests, the developers told us that it just wasn’t physically possible to implement any type of race change into the game due to how the system was coded. The potential game breaking bugs outweighed any benefit to the item. Not to mention the recoding that would have to occur.

Lanfear,

In GW1, by matching your secondary profession to your weapon, you could make very good attack use of a weapon not intended for your primary profession.

I’m aware, but generally speaking that wasn’t what people were doing. Considering there’s a word limit and sort of beside the point, I wasn’t going to delve into it.

But, yes, a monk may sink 8 points into Strength, Tactics, Command, or Motivation (depending on secondary) if they had a req8 shield (which was super expensive and rare) so they could get the other 8 armor if they could afford the points to do so. However, many didn’t.

Yes, in some cases you would see classes sink points in the weapons for their secondary profession (rt/a with daggers, r/p with spear, a/d with scythe), but I wouldn’t call those out as the “rule.” In those instances, the primary class typically ends up using the secondary classes weapon better than the secondary does when its primary (a/d with scythe is an excellent example of this issue), which simply highlights the flaws with some of the skills, professions, and overall system.

Why haven't you built a Legendary Weapon?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189

LanfearShadowflame.3189

Previously, I didn’t bother with a legendary weapon because I didn’t like that the only reliable why to acquire the precursor was by grinding out gold and buying it from the trading post. I have this thing about making other people rich…I don’t like to do it.

After pre-crafting was introduced, I did start working on Bifrost. I’m just….slow. I don’t have a whole lot of funds or materials to begin with (due to limited play time), which means I try to focus on one goal at a time. Right now, my goal is getting my guild hall built, so legendaries (while nice) are on hold for a bit (again). Which I suppose isn’t a bad thing, have they had their stat options updated to include the new 4-stat combos?

Perhaps it would be a better quality game if it was pay-per-month?

No. You follow this comment up with how you didn’t need to jump through the same hoops in GW1 (to reach max level, to get max gear, etc etc). Thus implying its a better game. Its not pay per month, therefore, you essentially answer your own question. No, pay per month does not, by default, make it a better game.

in GW1, where a player reached level 20 fairly quickly

Mild touch of rose colored glasses with this comment. Only in Factions and Nightfall did you reach level 20 quickly, assuming you’re playing the game in its intended linear fashion. In Prophecies, you didn’t hit max level until the end of Crystal Desert / Droks time period. Southern Shiverpeaks missions. At which point, you only had Ring of Fire left to do. People bypassed this by buying runs to Droks to buy max gear and be power leveled, which was a nice option, but not necessarily how it was intended to be played.

Now they’ve added even more extentions post 80. When does it ever stop?

I can agree that the new 4-stat options added with HoT aren’t something that please me either. I don’t like power creep, no matter how mild. Unfortunately this is just their means of sidestepping their “no more armor tiers” statement, though many don’t view it that way.

And while I can agree with:

Reliance on stats for weapons, armour etc…is also not a good way to manage player progress.

It is unfortunate that this is what people wanted. They wanted to feel like they were getting more powerful via gear. So we ended up with vertical progression a la ascended.

AND why aren’t all armour/weapons available to wear nomatter what class your character is?

Armor wasn’t like this in GW1. What you could wear was locked behind class, and soulbound on acquire. At least with GW2, if I delete a mes and make a new one, I can reuse the previous character’s gear.

Yes, in GW1, any class could pick up and use any weapon, but they didn’t use it for a weapons intended purpose. Sure, you’d see a monk with a sword or spear and a shield, but they only used them for the mods they could equip, not for the actual purpose of attack, because our skills weren’t tied to our weapon. Here they are. Its a different system, where actually using the weapon to attack is worthwhile and has an impact. (Anyone remember being laughed at for wanding a foe while out of energy?)

And why are there a million dyes to choose from?

There where a million dyes to choose from in GW1 too, if you think about it. Hell, they built us a preview system specifically for playing around with mixing the dye colors. Now they are just doing the mixing by default for us and offering us all the options, and we can even preview them! Its convenience, nothing more. Some people like it.

And why does my character have to ‘discover’ each dye before using it?

Why’d we have to “discover” a mod in pve for it to unlock for use in pvp in GW1? Its a very minor form of progressing that some people enjoy. Others find it annoying. They think they should have everything available right at the start, but then…what is there to work towards? Like with GW1 mods, there is a work around..just buy the ones you want and unlock them.

find a way to make the game enjoyable for each individual player

Not all games are for all people. I’m sorry, but it’s true. I don’t like wildstar, are you saying those game makers should absolutely have to go through and change or make something specifically for me so that I do like it? Lets multiply that across thousands of people. Seems a bit impractical does it not? (I hate the filter)

One of my biggest gripes is how player stats are changed based on zone levels

I love the downleveling feature. I do not like one shotting things all day long. Its boring. Beyond that, I like that my guildie can make a new character, and I can go play with him without worrying that I’m going to kill the foe before he has a chance to hit it, thus robbing him of being able to progress his character. I don’t want to have to buy a slot or blow away a character because I “have” to make a new one to play with him. Personally, I think the downleveling system still needs to reduce stats further than it does. It’s better after the last adjustment, but still needs some tweaking.

At the end of the day, a game should be fun to play

I agree with this wholeheartedly. However, you have to remember that just because you like something, or you find something fun, doesn’t mean everyone else will.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

How often is the air immobilize problem a problem? Every time? I’m only asking because I’ve never personally come across it.

I don’t typically run into in PvE, though I have a few times. Generally speaking, if I’m going to get “air locked” its going to be in PvP where cc’s are flying left, right, and center. And yes, it is absolutely annoying as kitten. The game still registers that you’re in the air, so you can’t activate 99.8% of skills, which means you can’t break out of it. So if you get caught by one of those classes that can really stack the immob (hello druid, I’m looking at you), you basically become nothing more than a punching bag for the opposing team. I won’t say it’s something that happens often, but you are powerless when it does.

Also, there would be all kinds of things that would need to be tweaked if the OP’s suggestion were implemented. For instance, ANet would have to rework the time limits on things like Guild Missions if they were to remove waypoints as it would take us longer to disburse around the world to find trek locations and bounties, etc.

I hadn’t thought about that factor. Considering I do the 5 location treks solo, and the majority of the 15 location treks (like 75% of it, while my husband does the other 25%), removing or limiting WPs would essentially be telling us (and other small guilds) to go kitten themselves yet again.

I don’t know wtf it is with people want mounts. After a period of time you’re going to end up with two groups of people – the ones complaining the world is still too small because mounts move too fast and those that whine it takes too long to get anywhere because mounts don’t move fast enough.

We already hear the latter whine (lack of waypoints, not enough run speed) because of the reduction of WPs in the HoT maps.

Ugh.

The 15 day achievement, 1 division cross, and a 3rd profession specific win are what I need under asc IV. shrug So, I should have mine in after that 10 day “waiting period” next season. I’m not necessarily against removing that achievement, but I think something else should replace it.

Many of the achievements either suck or are just overall detrimental to play, imo. However, how else could they have implemented “steps” to obtaining the legendary back piece that meets the standard they set forth? (Requires more than one season, but not necessarily more than 2. Obtainable by the average player, but still offers a modicum of prestige because more talented players can get it first/faster)

That’s an honest question. I’ve offered my suggestions before. Love to hear what others might like.

I couldn’t be bothered to learn my own generation’s slang. So I tend to wonder what makes people think I’m going to learn this new slang (in other words, I’m not). If I don’t understand wtf they are trying to say, I just ignore them. Until they learn to use proper sentences (to an extent, I can manage some short hand and such). English is a perfectly good language.

And while you’re at it…. pull up your pants!

Ascended Grind?

There is not such a thing as an “ascended grind” – it’s only a grind if you make it one. I’ve been playing for 3 years, I saw the introduction of Ascended equipment. In about a month, I had my first set. I didn’t change my behavior at all – I just salvaged literally every blue and green and white drop like I already had been doing. Now 7 of my characters have ascended sets, and a couple of them have more than one. I didn’t go out of my way to make them; i just made my dailies and traded types with guildmates.

I’m not sure where the concept that asc. armor is difficult to get came from.

Now see, I do much the same thing. I saw the introduction of ascended. I didn’t alter how I played, except maybe doing a bit more wvw for dragonite. I have always salvaged pretty much everything… and yet I never seem to have enough cloth.

It’s unlikely to be changed because ascended was introduced specifically to appease people who complained that exotics are too easy to get and then they have nothing to work towards. If they made it easier it would defeat the point.

But the only things you need ascended for is high level Fractals where you need the agony resistance and possibly raids (although I’ve heard raids are balanced around having ascended trinkets and exotic armour and weapons).

That is also highly unlikely to change – GW2 was designed to be a ‘casual friendly’ game where you can take breaks or focus only on the content you’re interested in without having to worry about falling behind and being unable to do new things because you haven’t got the necessary equipment.

Well, honestly…GW2 has failed on this part. I haven’t really played in 1-2 years. Whenever I do come back and look around, I do not have access to previous living story content.

I.E. I missed out on the breadcrumb content of the past because I didn’t sign in at least once during it. I.E. I am behind in lore. I.E. I am behind in achievement points. I.E. I am behind in any materials and resources that were rewarded for the events/LS.

So yeah, I would take the notion that you can take a break and come back without feeling behind with a grain of salt. Obviously I am behind in several areas that are directly related to living story.

To be fair, the statement about not being left behind was only made in regards to level caps and armor tiers. Attempting to apply it to any other component (story, rewards, etc) is asinine because it could never be true in those instances unless the game remained absolutely unchanging (which would kill it).

As much as I might like to see some changes come to ascended acquisition (among other things), I’m not holding my breath. We were essentially told once that they don’t classify ascended as a “grind” by their definition of what grind is. Granted, this could change, but, like I said, not holding my breath.

“Gear grind without better stats” is better known as cosmetic grind. You’re going after the piece because you desire how it looks or because you want to complete a collection/achievement, which makes it completely optional. You can stop at any point you so choose to.

Many of us much prefer this as opposed to the never ending gear treadmills where you have 0 choice. You have to keep chasing the armor.

I talk about ascended grind .. new ascended stat sets have no cosmetic value, they
are just the same skins you already have only with different stats.

THATs what i mean with “gear grind without better stats” ..

Ah, well…. I’ve already voiced my displeasure regarding ascended. Many times.

I wouldn’t say the new 4-stat combos aren’t better though. There is power creep there. It may not be extravagant power creep, but baby steps are all it takes to set you on the path to hell.

Woo boy this argument is getting old. Not to mention stale. Pretty soon, its going to end up like mounts with just one giant merged thread.

Mounts were never ingame .. armor-sets and optical stuff was more or less the so
called endgame of GW2 .. and now its simply gear grind but without even getting
better stats .. just other stat distribution .. and that is just soooo boring.

Mounts never being in the game was entirely beside the point being made. The point was that this argument (like many) has nothing new to offer (from either side) and gets brought up all the time. Its just stale repetition that could all get shoved into one mega thread at this point.

Stat distribution and the ability (or lack of) to easily swap them is a different issue. I can completely understand that complaint. I miss the ease of use in GW1.

You mean you need to get carried. That’s the problem with the season. It’s all about getting a good team. If you don’t, you’ll be stuck in your division forever.

Then how come many players gotten several accounts to legendary without ever being stuck in “MMR Hell”?

Ah yes, i forgot… it’s because they were lucky every single time to be placed in the “winning team”, right?

If you are in sapphire and you lose 30 games in a row you do not belong in sapphire thats how it is. Unfortunately you cannot drop divisions, which is something that needs to change.

The problem is that people can have drastically different experiences even across their own accounts. Same person. Different accounts. Says something is indeed a bit off with the match making. If your mmr isn’t on the correct side of the curve, and you can’t catch a break, you’re pretty well boned. You keep trying to dig out of the hole, and the game just keeps handing you larger shovels. Not fun.

Why are people so afraid of raiding?

So, I’ll reiterate a lot of what others have said already:

  • Not afraid of raiding
  • Haven’t played them yet
  • Was concerned about what they would do to GW2 when they implemented them
  • Don’t particularly care for their set up or what they promote
  • Not into “stand around and wait” for ‘x’ number of people (wasn’t that the entire reason they got rid of tanking, and monking, and instancing, hench, and 8 person parties in the first place?)
  • I don’t know 9 other people that I wouldn’t strangle for being kittenholes
