Commander armor stats

Just to make sure, can one change ascended gear into the new 4 stats prefixes with the mystic forge without having to craft it that way? Simply by using an exotic insignia/inscription? What is the freaking point of adding fulgurite and all the other garbage to the ascended recipes then? LOL

Yup, you sure can. This is how I’ve gotten my viper’s gear on my necro – just changing out stats on random ascended drops I didn’t want via the forge and exotic viper’s insigs.

Fulgurite still has it’s uses though, for those that make the gen2 legendaries → cystalline ingots for the gift of maguuma mastery. Other components are used for assorted guild hall upgrades.

As someone that’s not exactly rolling in gold or these materials, I like having the mystic forge option.

That said, whether you personally like it or not is subjective. There are people who do like it, and people who don’t. I don’t particularly like the color choice myself, but not liking it doesn’t automatically equate to it not being worthy of “legendary” status. Anet purposely wants scholars, adventurers and soldiers to be visually distinct.

While I don’t disagree with most of what you said (there are definitely a multitude of issues with either option), the quoted statement isn’t necessarily true anymore.

Yes, anet originally wanted the 3 tiers to be visually recognizable for “reasons.” Which was understandable. However, with the change over to outfits that are usable in combat, that statement pretty much got blown out of the water.

Untradable weapon skins

ANet, this set would feel special to me if it were tradeable AND remain always available at 1 ticket. It would mean that the skins would be reasonably obtainable on the TP and the BLWS simultaneously/consistently… and that would definitely be a special set.

As it stands I do want it… all of it… but I doubt I’ll pursue it. I’d need to approach it from both means as I listed above in order to feel the price is worthwhile for the effort to obtain any more than a couple of the skins.

~EW

I think if they want to go the untradable route, the set needs to give something amazing for completing the collection (in addition to never going away and never going up in price). Something better than 7 tickets anyway.

While I can empathize with a lot of the things already mentioned – map verticality, power creep (especially power creep), short lack luster story, etc…

My biggest fear is timers. More maps that are just one big event timer. Ugh.

You just hit the nail right on the head for me, I hate timers more than anything else in this game. I am considering time gates a part of that as well.

Looking back at GW1:Factions and all of the timed missions and sneering.

I didn’t mind the time missions in Factions. Its actually my favorite expansion. The difference between Factions and HoT though, is you can /resign and restart if you so desire. Or you can just play through and take as along as you want if you don’t. And you could do it any time you so choose.

With the HoT map timers, if I need to do an achievement at the start of the map or the end of a map or at a specific time, I need to watch the clock in real life, and sync up my real life with the game to be able to work on those things. I can’t do it “at my own pace” or “in my own time.” At times, I really feels like I need to make my life revolve around a game to be able to do certain things.

Reading this thread, we understand your questions and want to share a little information: This set is designed to be a special, exclusive set and therefore it’s a little different than most. There are a couple of other interesting factors that you’ll want to know: The set is available for one ticket. It will remain priced at one ticket into the future, so someone who wants it now doesn’t need to be concerned about it becoming unavailable or about it rising in price in the future. Other sets currently available are not account bound, such as the Cavalier Weapon Set which was recently released at a price of 1 Black Lion Claim Ticket and remains at that price now. In addition, we do intend to continue to offer tradeable sets in the future. If you’d like a preview of the new set, go to your bank wardrobe and filter for “Privateer.” We hope this answers your questions, and thanks for sharing your thoughts.

-Sarah

Why is the set special? Why would we think it’s anything but you testing the waters on how much you can screw over customer before there’s backlash?

“Why” is pretty much what I want to know too.

While I am not necessarily against having a set here or there that aren’t tradable, there should also be a solid reason as to why they aren’t. People should probably note the bolded part of the original post. If these indeed never go away (never get rotated out), and never go up in price, I can see that as part of a legitimate reason behind not letting them be tradable. Granted, I don’t necessarily feel that accounts for “enough” of a reason, but it’s a start.

HoT PVE: Worth it?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189

LanfearShadowflame.3189

1. Is the pve in HoT something that is enjoyable? By this I mean is it something you can pick up for an hour or 2 after work or on a day off and not feel lost or bored?

Yes, it is absolutely something you can do after work for a couple of hours and make progress. That said, some words of caution:

Transitioning from pvp to pve is not going to be a smooth process, or at least it’s not for most. I’ve seen several pvp primaries wander into pve and wonder wtf they are supposed to do. Do not hesitate to ask for help, it is not always completely straight forward.

Fighting an npc is nothing like fighting another person. It is very likely that even with the bit of AI that HoT foes possess, you’re going to find combat boring. It is no where near as dynamic, but don’t let that alone turn you off to pve.

Now, if you’re not into exploring, or seeing the beauty of the world, or experiencing the story, then there may really be nothing in pve for you except fashion and achievement collecting. It all depends on what you’re looking for.

You’re going to feel lost in HoT the first time you wander in. Even pve mains felt lost with the new direction HoT took maps. It may be frustrating at first, but with a little bit of time and familiarity, it should get better.

2. Is it repetitive grinding to high ends or do things get shaken up a bit depending on what you are looking to do, such as building a legendary via the precursor quests?

You’re going to have a little bit of both. You’ll have specific tasks that take you all over the place (ie: achieve silver in a specific adventure, go do a specific jumping puzzle, go kill this boss for an item, go complete this fractal for an item, complete ‘x’ map for an item) as well as having some currency grinding for specific maps. The gen 2 legendary pre collections tell a better story than the gen 1 collections, as I understand it. I haven’t done a gen 2 yet so I can’t confirm.

3. I understand that some professions have an easier time than others in the new zones so I’m assuming there are some challenges. However, are these challenges based on enemy mechanics or just rapid scaling to where everything can “1 shot” you and has x10 health?

I think a lot of this depends on how well you know your class, and how used to active combat you are. If you stand still, yes there are several foes that are just going to flatten you. As a pvper I don’t think you’ll have too much of an issue with this, since in pvp, active defense and combat movement are kind of a must. (Watch out for the kitten mushrooms)

4. As with every game, entering something late is not going to be easy to adapt but I have a fairly quick ability to learn. Are raids going to be “semi” friendly to join or are people “know it or gtfo” kind of mentality? I ask this having no active guild atm.

I don’t raid personally, so I have mixed feedback on that. If you’re trying to pug them, its pretty much a toss up whether you’re going to get friendly people or kittens. My best suggestion, if you intend to raid, is to try to find a raiding guild that works for your schedule. I’d offer my guild, but we aren’t raiders yet, and I’m still trying to build an active member count (which, trying to do post HoT is not easy).

5. Similar to question 4 and 3, does HoT content demand specific builds in raids/world events or are they flexible based on player skill? Similar experience I’ve had in the past with fractals with people demanding build x only to watch them die over and over and ultimately giving 0 dps while they run back or get revived. I’d rather just know what I’m there for and run it on my terms, does HoT content demand something else?

I think fractals have chilled out a bit, unless you’re specifically running speed clears. The only requirement I’ve run into in fractal pugs is having enough agony resistance, which should be a no brainer.

Open world, just whatever works for you.

Raids, absolutely require specific builds and gear set ups. You can use metabattle for reference material. You can also check out the raid section of the forum, there are a few helpful threads, including one for training sessions if you’re interested.

Did Heart of Thorns ruin the game?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189

LanfearShadowflame.3189

I don’t feel HoT ruined GW2. I will agree that it changed it.

I will agree with many that it was definitely a different approach to the game that wasn’t necessarily “casual friendly” to at least some extent. I usually do ok, my husband has issues. So I have front line seats to both sides of that issue, so I can understand and appreciate both views.

I have mixed feelings on raids in general. I don’t think they were necessarily a “bad” idea; however, I also cannot say with any conviction that they were a “healthy” addition either. “The road to hell is paved with good intentions” That said, it’s only been…what 6 months -ish? I’m going to take a step back, give it time, and observe closely before crossing the line to one side or the other.

The elites…those were a sound idea. Probably worked better on paper than in actual implementation, but time should help smooth that out. They still have some balance tweaks to work out, and those should be fine.

Fewer maps with greater density, replay-ability, and verticality: I don’t think I’m a fan of the entire map being one big timered meta-event personally. I don’t mind the layered maps. Its super frustrating at first, and I still have a hard time navigating through; however, I do like that they aren’t just flat landscapes. It makes them more “real” to have that depth, that layered tiering, despite how annoying it sometimes is.

All in all, it’s just “different” and sadly, a lot of people just don’t like “different.”

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

“The road to hell is paved with good intentions”

This statement applies to this suggestion.

Its a nice thought. Its a good intention. Its the start of a slippery slope that I do not want to see Anet fall down. Not walk. Not roll. Fall. This is Anet we’re talking about people. (I love you Anet, but you certainly have your flaws. I’ve been here for a decade, I’ve seen some doozies.)

Why don’t we just suggest that they offer a 5 dollar gem option, rather than $10 being the smallest. Maybe add some bonus gems to larger packs purchased (like 50, 75, and 100 $ purchases). The smaller pack might tempt more people to purchase that don’t currently. Bonus gems might tempt people that do to spend on the larger bundles. It achieves the same goal of generating revenue for Anet without the slippery slope, and without people screaming about pay to win in the forums.

Beyond that, some of us do (to some capacity) already do “voluntary subscriptions” in the form of purchasing gems on a regular or semi-regular basis. You can do so too if supporting Anet is your primary purpose, without sticking a “VIP” tag on it.

Edit for the dumb filter that won’t let me use $5 after the letter “a.”

I’m sorry, but you can be a casual player and still be competitive in your play. You can approach the game as a game, and realize that winning or losing doesn’t really matter in the grande scheme of things. Winning is nice, we all want to win, but people need to understand that it is not the end of the world. If people think that is the wrong attitude to have, the wrong way to look at it, then they are the ones that are wrong. Not us.

I understand that people are going to get frustrated, and they are going to spout off; however, that doesn’t mean we have to accept poor sportsmanship from our teammates. Especially to the extent that some people take it.

Lanfear displays GWAMM for the character which she is named after (and earned the title originally) and in tribute to the years spent in GW1. Of course, she’s also a bit arrogant and self-centered.

Iylla uses “Chosen.” She’s a mesmer, that should explain everything really.

I tend to use crafting as part of my leveling process. Not always these days (once upon a time, every character I made had some crafting on it to help with leveling), and even if I don’t necessarily, I think the option needs to remain there for others to use. Making crafting an account bound thing would remove that experience option.

Now, I’m fine with adding a QoL option which makes certain purchased recipes account bound, this way if you have multiples of a craft that can use it (like you have 2 cooks or something) then you can on either one.

Or maybe just a better option for tracking ‘x knows recipe y’.

At this rate, someone is going to post and ask for full map completion with full rewards as soon as they step out of the starter instance.

GW 2 [HoT] - Worth paying and playing?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189

LanfearShadowflame.3189

Whether or not you feel it’s worth the cost is probably going to depend a lot on what you enjoy doing.

There are still lots of people playing, the game is by no means dying. Conversely, the megaserver system for the HoT maps seems to be a bit borked presently, so you may need to spend a few minutes finding a taxi into an active map at times.

Personally, I do enjoy the open world HoT maps though they can be very confusing to navigate at first and take a bit to get used to. The downside (for me) is that each map is essentially just one big meta event on a timer, and if you can’t sync up with that timer, doing some of the tasks/achievements might get a bit frustrating.

HoT introduced raids into the game, which, I have not attempted yet. I’ve watched people do them on twitch and they look fun, although there seems to be a mix bag regarding pug-ability of them. Although, from the sounds of it, it shouldn’t be too hard to find a raiding guild if you want to do that content. Just have to find a group that meshes with your schedule.

Masteries are a mixed bag as well. People seem to either love them or hate them, will either tell you to rush through them as quickly as possible (which would be a slog, I won’t sugar coat that) or to just play and take your time with them. Personally, I don’t mind masteries, they remind me a lot of the rep grind from GW:EN, and I’m just playing through normally. On the up side, they are account bound, so I can work on progressing them on any character I choose to play.

Revenant still seems to be the golden child of the devs. Like the elite specs, it’s gotten some nerfs, so they are all slowly coming back in line, but (as always) balance is still a work in progress. Rev and (most of) the elite specs are super fun to play though imo.

The story is..on the short side. It’s not bad, but they could definitely have done better on it. Some of the instances still have a couple of bugs (to be expected I should think), but I think people can typically work around them. I’m not aware of any that stop progression (doesn’t mean there aren’t though).

In summation, I found the expac worth it’s price tag without an issue, but I’m also relatively causal in my play style.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Go have fun.

I’d love to “go have fun” but sometimes that’s difficult to do in HoT. I log in with the intent to do “x” in VB, but it’s nighttime, and I have to wait for it to be daytime or vice versa. Or I’m running around AB and Octovine pops up….ever tried doing Octovine with just 3-4 people? Or I want to do it, so I try to find a taxi when I get online, but all the taxi-ing maps are full all because my schedule doesn’t mesh with the HoT map schedules. It’s a really kittenty feeling when you can’t really do anything during the week because you can’t plan your schedule around a game.

I understand what you mean, but have you tried joining a big guild? I think people forget this is really an mmorpg, I can think some better casually fit games for people who dont have time for this kind of game, there are some wonderful multiplayer games out there people can try enjoy until you can get to a place where you they can play gw more frequently again.

I’ve been trying to grow mine, but its hard to compete with the larger guilds. I have tried joining a couple others, but ..we’ll just say they didn’t work out.

Thank you for essentially telling me that I need to take myself elsewhere because I’m an adult with responsibilities and don’t play for 8+ hours a day. Retirement is still a few decades off thanks.

Nah, facerolling wouldn’t be that consistent. Drinking on the other hand….would do it…

Ever tried doing Octovine with just 3-4 people?

I have. It’s pretty awesome!

We weren’t that lucky

Well, we didn’t win…but I don’t believe I have to win to have fun

Oh I know. Sometimes the best fun comes from just being goof balls (which, you end up dying left right and center). Unfortunately, 2 of the 4 of us were ragers and I just ended up turning map chat off.

takes a bow

No problem guys, just wondering if it will get me infracted lol.

But in all seriousness, something like this would just open the door for other things. The level 80 booster I hope will never go into the gem store. It would be the start of a slippery slope.

I did the last time I put it that way. Thus why I approached it differently this time (and many others). But, I support you either way.

Yes, it absolutely opens the path to other things. They’ve said that they don’t have any intention of selling the lvl 80 boost in the store, but whose to say that won’t change? I’m very concerned about that possibility.

Yes, I know they have “No plans”, but we all know plans can and will change. I just hope this is not one of them. Same for anything that “takes away” from or “cheapens” the effort people up.into the game. There are enough short cuts to 80 as it is.

I agree. I can work with things like tomes, and writs, and such. Cause you still need to “do” stuff involving game play for them.
