This is such a terrifying prospect that I just want to cry. Cause you know there will be an achievement tied to it.
When will LS3 part 2 come out?- Predictions [Merged]

I’m vibrating with readiness!
I I’ve RP’d with girls who turn out to be guys.
They always turn out to be guys bro – FeelsBadMan
Not always. My guildie was surprised to find out that I’m female when he assumed I was male. I almost felt bad for the guy, the shock I gave him when he heard my voice for the first time.
Track it on a speadsheet?
Make yourself a note?
Utilize something like gw2efficiency.com?
Easy… Hard… Gonna be different for different people. From my husband’s perspective (who died several times), it probably felt “hard.” For me, it was probably “about right.”
Over all though – I enjoyed myself, that’s all I cared about.
Has anyone else reached this point in their GW1/GW2 lifetime? And if so, what drives you to keep logging in?
My husband reached this point about 5 years in, in GW1. He only logs in to help guildies out. He got to that point about 2 years in for GW2. He only logs in to work through the new story components or to help guildies out with something. Primarily because he doesn’t enjoy farming (although, I think there’s some depression issues involved here too given other symptoms).
Me personally? The only reason I don’t play GW1 often is simply because I’m playing GW2. Real life makes it difficult to play more than one game at any given time. 4000 hours (or so) in and I still have plenty to do. Granted, lots of it includes oodles of farming, but I enjoy doing that to some extent (thankfully). However, if I feel “bored” I also have no issue simply not logging in for a day (or 3) to give myself a break. It helps reduce the burn out for me.
It sounds like you need to do something similar. Just take a step back and have some breathing room. Read a book. Binge watch a series or two. Go enjoy some family time. Then come back in a few days, or even a few weeks, and see if you feel a bit more invigorated to play.
Shared inventory slot could be like the level 80 boost that we got, a separate shared inventory slot that stacks on top of what we have already purchased because there is no limit.
There’s no limit that we know of. But, that’s what I figured you meant, which should be sufficient.
And there’s always a use for shared inventory slots
While I agree with you on this, I know many that don’t. Like the people that complained about getting the free one with the booster. “One slot is useless” kind of complaints. Not the “let me move this out of my way” complaints.
When I meant unique skins I kinda meant like the dragon we got for the security set up.. You can only get that dragon by doing that, so maybe something similar.
Unfortunately unless its a set of items which we either can select 1 of or get 1 at random, we’d just end up with the Queen Jenna issue all over again.
Good points about Gems and gold, honestly that idea only came from Big Achievement chests n stuff we already get.
That’s what I thought of too when you put them in the list, which seemed fine at first blush. Then I considered potentially how many people would be getting those items at the same time and what the influx of those items could potentially do (and cringed).
We have a great team of customer support agents who follow these policies, and the hacker tried a bunch of times and found one agent who didn’t.
Sadly, this is not uncommon in the customer support world. Established policies or otherwise. Could be the person was new, could be the person didn’t read any notes on the account from previous CS members (assuming they have some sort of ticketing / note system that reliably searchable and or tied to user accounts). Could be any number of things, including simple negligence.
I am saddened to hear this happened to Gaile.
Shared inventory slots.
Unique skins only available through birthday gifts.
Unique dyes only available through birthday gifts.
Unique Minipets only available through birthday gifts.
Gems
Gold
I’d be fine with any of these personally; however, there are things that need to be taken into consideration:
Shared inventory slots.
Would these still work for people at their max purchasable slots or would it be a “dead gift” for them (ie, can’t use it due to being maxed out)? If so, how many people would this affect? (cause you know, like the OP, they’d be on here up in arms)
Even if it didn’t count against the max slots (like I don’t think the booster slot did), you know there would still be people upset about getting one because they “have no use” for it.
Unique skins only available through birthday gifts.
Unique dyes only available through birthday gifts.
Unique Minipets only available through birthday gifts.
Any of these would be awesome, but I feel they would absolutely have to be trade-able. First, because there would likely be a modicum of rng involved in what you got (like the original GW1 bday minis). Second, depending on how many are in the set (which I’m assuming would be yearly, like the old minis), and potentially your luck with RNG, you may not necessarily have enough alts to collect them all without being able to trade.
Gems
Gold
Gems I could see, maybe, but if they went that route, I can’t see it being more than like 400 gems so as not to affect either their bottom line or the in game economy.
Gold, I think is even less likely than Gems, imo. If we got gold, it would have to be a pittance so as not to harm the economy in any fashion, as well.
I don’t really bind much. I have strafe left and strafe right on my side mouse buttons. I use x for dive under water. My G2 (next to my tab key) is bound to f5 so I can quickly hit it with my pinky. I’ve never rebound 6-0 just due to muscle memory.
They are kittened if they do, kittened if they don’t regardless of what we get. Someone, somewhere won’t be happy because they cannot please everyone all the time.
As such, I’m just putting my feet up and waiting to see what we do get. Hopefully another couple of birthday boosters (as we have every year thus far). I love those things, and could always use more.
Why would you have more then 1 of each class slot (9)…70 just seems ott.
I started out with the intent of doing 1 of each class as human, and then 1 of each armor weight in each of the other races. After rev was added, it would have been a total of 21 characters.
Somehow I’ve ended up with a full set of each race just for the hell of it…
If someone where to do that for each race and gender (cause some people like to do such things), that’s what….90 characters?
I get that some people just like their alts. I’m unclear, however: if you like your alts to the tune of over six dozen… what’s wrong with buying a second account?
I can’t speak for others, but I would think convenience might be part of it. I’m sure some people find it a hassle to log out of one, and into another, and then have to mail things between accounts.
Personally, I’ve been doing that for years anyway (4 accounts in GW1). shrug
Non Raiders blocked from XP bar spirit shards
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189
I said this in another thread, but I’ll reiterate here:
I don’t feel that raid masteries should block players from re-establishing spirit shard generation. I sort of feel that raid masteries (while tied to HoT) should be their ‘own thing’ as raids are intended (by Anet’s own words) for a minority of players, not the majority. They are a tier of “optional” beyond even what basic hot masteries are, imo. It’s why the story components where (supposedly) kept as “not necessary” to the larger story. As such, they shouldn’t be integrated as a requirement for the spirit shards.
Either way, it doesn’t bother me overly much since I have oodles of spirit shards (imo) and seem to regularly get a few as random drops. Still, just my 2c.
Yes, the Areodrome is in LA, but that doesn’t matter. The raids themselves are a part of HoT. As such, are HoT based masteries, not core. That is logical.
Regardless of this, Raid Masteries, should not be a factor in the regaining of access to spirit shard generation. I doubt the majority of people will even do raids, but I could be wrong. Even still, I feel they should be their “own thing” that shouldn’t act as a barrier to the ‘average’ player.
My guess is that it won’t increase the maximum amount, as it’s just telling you how many times you can make use of the sale price.
But I have to ask. What are you even using 70 character slots for?
Some of us just like our alts.
I’m predicting a new map with the LS3 update tomorrow.
“Are you impatient for tomorrow’s #GW2 update? Pass the time by training your gliding masteries–we think you’ll find them helpful."
Gotta be some new place we’ll need to glide in or to.
Possibly updrafts added to core Tyria.
~EW
Hmmm, I missed the twitter post. I’m glad I just finished this track on my main account, and started working through it on my second. Just lacking ley-line gliding on that one.
Not sure about updrafts in core Tyria. Might be interesting I suppose.
Also, thinking ahead, what happens when the next elite spec comes along? Another weapon type, 5 more utilities, and a new class gimmick?
Actually, that’s exactly what we expect with future elite specs. The choice of which elite you run is a trade off. Its about making choices. The elite lines are a “package” that changes your class into something slightly more than what it was; however, you can only be one specialty with all that it entails. In the long run it “should” help keep some potential power creep issues in check, but we’ll see.
Are they going to rework the old specs to feature the same?
I’m assuming you’re asking are they going to change the core lines to have some weapon or skill locked to them? So you can’t use that weapon and skill set if you don’t take it? I doubt it. They’d have done it with the revamp of the system, and from what they said when they introduced “specializations,” locking was something special to elite specs for assorted reasons.
Ahh, so they intend to add more “elite” specializations, which will be mutually exclusive? That makes more sense. With just the one it’s a bit awkward, since you lose out on a lot of power/utility by not taking the elite spec, even if one of the other specializations would be a better fit if only taking into account the traits themselves.
That should work, as long as it’s balanced properly.
Yes, it’s a bit strange right now with just one. But we’ve been told that they are working on the next expansion already, and they’ve told us that elite specs are something we’ll see with each expansion. I’d go find the super long specializations discussion they had on twitch when they first introduced the system where they explain their thought process on elites and only being able to use one at a time so on and so forth, but I’m lazy.

In some instances they will refund you the difference. Contact support and ask politely if this is something that could be done. But it may depend on whether you bought it from their site, or from somewhere else.
It would match up with the propaganda achievement we had recently, where we were ripping down posters, as well as with other information we have from the original story line / dungeons.
So, as OP quoted:
“It will not be necessary to play Forsaken Thicket—or any future raid—in order to complete Living World or expansion stories. Raids do not gate main story progress.”
This doesn’t say that raid story won’t be relevant to the open world story, only that it won’t block it.
I don’t necessarily think they will go the synopsis route either, since that would make the raid story itself sort of pointless.
I think what they’ll do is take an alternate path in the first part of the first episode that takes us to approximately the same story point where raids stopped, and then progress the story from there. Something closer to a “Meanwhile in location b” set up, like the initial branching of the original story.
There was an interview where this was discussed, if I recall, waaaaay back near launch. Actually might have been before. It’s been a while…
Anyway, you can think of Vibrant, Leather, and Metallic in terms of armor weight – Light, Medium, Heavy. The general idea being that Vibrant will be brighter on cloth (light) than on leather, Metallic will be more shiny on heavy (which is metal) rather than light (which is cloth). Make sense?
You can use any dye on any armor, but it will “behave” a bit differently as you’ve noted based on what it’s “ideal” material (cloth, leather, metal) is vs what material you’re applying it to.
“Also, each race has a cultural palette that reflects the character of the species. This means a red color for a human may not look the same as a red color for a norn or charr. " -straight from the wiki
I know there is more to it (and probably explained much better than I ever could), but I haven’t been able to find that interview.
Oh yes, let’s penalize new players. Players that are trying out new builds. Players that might be learning a new class. Cause you know, pvp is just so effing friendly already.
While you’re at it, why don’t we just scrap everything that isn’t a kitten bunker. I swear people don’t consider the ramifications of their suggestions.
I get it, you’re kittened off that you’ve gotten games where somebody (or multiple somebodies) just kept feeding the opposing team. Been there, ground my teeth in frustration, cursed at my monitor. However a blanket “penalized for dying” will affect others that it doesn’t necessarily need to.
You also neglect to mention if there should by varying degrees to this penalty. Do you accrue less if you die defending a point vs dying off point? Does it take into consideration if you’re 1v1 or 1v3 or 2v2 (etc) and how long you last? (In other words is it smart enough to be situational, because death very much is. Even the pro players die.) How much do you accrue each time? Is it applied per death? If so, how do you “work if off” since just dying less wouldn’t be sufficient? How does this affect your matchmaking?
You want personal score to mean something, which is fine. It, along with matchmaking, would need a good chunk of work to make it worth paying attention to.
Accordingly to the Massively article, and Dulfy’s notes on it, no you don’t need to have completely the HoT story to be able to play LS3 (You do need to own HoT though). However, it will start where HoT’s storyline left off, and I should expect that it will reference parts of it as though the character had.
Yeah, it’s two different XP boosters. The old one (the Fine quality one) is the one you can convert; it also no longer drops and is no longer available for purchase on the gem store. The new one (the Rare quality one) cannot be traded and does drop/is available for purchase. The Rare one is honestly a good booster to keep, if you ever have alts that need leveling.
Or masteries to work on.
Or to just blast through some pvp reward tracks.
I pop these things like candy. And I think they stack with the birthday booster, if I recall.
Different XP boosters. Look closer. The one you can trade is the fine version, which was discontinued. What you have in your inventory is the rare version.
As Donari pointed out, this was something that came about with HoT. It has the kill streak built in, and you get 50% experience from everything, not just kills like the old one.

I still need Migraine and Flights of Fancy so I’ll be happy to help others in need
I need Migraine on my 2nd account. Drop me a line and I’ll hop in and help out.
Given Mo’s previous comment about talking about things they’ve delivered as opposed to hyping up things that have yet to come, I doubt we’ll hear anything about anything (balance, LS3, etc) until its here. Not exactly what’d I’d prefer to see happen, but that’s the route they’ve opted to go.
I think only part of the issue was with development requirements. It’s not exactly a secret that mmo’s cannot create content at the same rate at which its player base consumes it. If they are done revamping core systems (which supposedly, they are), that should help the consistency issue.
The other part of issue came due to the backlash from (seemingly) significant portions of the player base. It was that backlash that resulted in LS2 being permanent. Their changes to the system, in addition to actually creating the content, which caused delays.
The expansion (and subsequent drought) can be placed quite firmly on the community’s shoulders, imo. Even with the changes to LS2, there was still a huge outcry for an “actual” expansion. The fact that we ended up with a content drought during that time period should not have been as much of a surprise as it was.
As an old player I completely disagree with this and hope that Anet reintroduces more skins that are no longer available.
Seconded by another old player
thirded by another oldie
You can add me to this list.
I do agree with the general sentiment that we shouldn’t have to go to outside sites (be they the wiki itself or a third party site like Dulfy) to know what we need to do. However, I do feel they have done a decent job of notifying us in game, each time a new segment of these “current events” has become available, and they do an ok job of pointing us in the correct direction. Once we head down that path, finding the achievements seems to happen relatively naturally. Is some of it still obscure? Yes. Never said there wasn’t room for improvement.
Should be next week, after the pvp season ends I should think.
I hope weight restrictions aren’t lifted, because otherwise we’ll probably see more of this:
lol
I agree that the skin restrictions should be lifted. As mentioned above, outfits tossed out the armor weight “look and feel”. My elemental can wear plate armor outfit. My guardian can wear raiment of the lich.
All well and good, but there are technical limitations as to why they can’t “lift” the restrictions. They’d have to redo a major component of the game code in order to do this, which would not be financially beneficial for them
I don’t think that the intent is to keep people ignorant of available content, Bridget.
Its more for those people that have previously raised a ruckus about missing achievements, incomplete achievements, or achievements they just don’t care about showing up on their lists. It bothers their OCD apparently.
Granted, I think they should have just hid them if no progress was made after they finally get archived, but that’s not the route they took.
Additionally, I’m sure there’s the factor that some people like these explore and discover type things, without the achievements leading them around by the nose.
If they had wanted to keep people ignorant, they wouldn’t have bothered with the tip offs in the patch notes and we wouldn’t be getting emails each time something new makes itself known.
Using a movement skill (ie: lightning flash) doesn’t seem to work reliably for me anymore. Using an emote still does though….if I live through the kitten whooping that’s generally in progress when I get hit with this darn bug. grrrr
Teleports don’t work – it has to be an actual movement skill. A teleport will usually teleport you but you’re still stuck at the location you teleported to.
(It’s probably a matter of most teleports not having an animation on your character, just an effect and you’re in the new location.)
Odd. Guess I was just lucky with it working previously. At this point I just type /sit as quickly as I can and then escape out of the emote animation. I’d love to poke their code to determine how some of these things work.

I think part of the ‘hidden by default’ is probably due to the number of people that don’t want to see them if they aren’t doing that stuff. Some people find it irritating to have stuff like that on their list, and when they eventually get moved to “archived” all they see is stuff they missed or didn’t complete and they blow a gasket.
When I see the new little tidbit hints on the patch notes, I just check dulfy later in the day. Other people will have found and filled in the necessary information on what to do long before I even get out of work.
I prefer to keep the GW1 tradition where the birthdays are character bound. Which is as it should be imo.
So at first blush, I can agree that my initial gut reaction is disappointment. However, I also know that’s jumping the gun and putting the cart before the horse, so to speak.
Whether or not this will be “ok” is going to entirely depend on what all we get with each patch. I don’t mind having a bit more time for between the patches, since I do multi-mode, but I also don’t want to have it turn out to be something I can complete in a matter of hours either. And no, time gating it behind “do ‘x’ for ‘y’ number of days” is not what I want to see either. Though, I’m certain we’re bound to see some of that.
I was really hoping to see LS3 start up when the pvp season closed on 7/12, but it doesn’t sound like this will happen. That’s a huge bummer for me.
- what is your main character name (or well known as)?
“Well known” is likely pushing it on any of my characters:
Lanfear Shadowflame – ele
Ebony Shadowheart – necro
Nhaggi – necro
Çirra – guard
- do you believe you are in MMR hell?
This season? No. Hit a bit of a wall in ruby thanks to afkers and people that preferred to type more than play, but meh.
Last season: A bit, but not as bad as many that where having issues. From my own personal experience last season, there was a drastic difference in the types of matches you would get depending on which side of the curve your personal mmr was on. If you solo q’ed, this could kick you in the teeth quite easily. However, if you had people you could q with, you could bypass this issue to some extent. The run to diamond on my main vs my alt was as different as night and day, which was super frustrating.
- what division are you now?
T2 Ruby.
- what division do you think you belong to?
Honestly? No clue. A guess based on where I clawed my way to last couple of seasons – Mid to high Ruby maybe. Probably could have stubbornly hauled myself there again this season had I not stopped playing ranked 2-3 weeks ago. However, I’d met my back piece requirements, there was no further need to subject myself to the depravity that is currently ruby. So I just went back to playing unranked. So much less stress.
Well kitten…. I missed that.
Back to wvw!
Don’t tell me I can’t have a specific tier of armor in a game based on cosmetics where stats are’t supposed to be a “big deal” just because I’m not interested in running your one specific brain dead rat race.
Umm… if it’s a cosmetics game wouldn’t you be more worried about the skin than the color of the letters for the item?
If I were after that specific look, then I’d be perfectly happy to do that content. Which is sort of the point of tying specific looks to specific content. But a lot of us aren’t after the look. We’re after the functionality that comes with that tier and no other.
Which is why we’re asking for that tier to be available via other alternatives. Be it pvp seasons, fractal achievement collections, pve precusor treks, wvw tracks, etc. The raids can keep their specific skin set (in fact, I insist that each has its own unique skin set).
But this argument isn’t about the skin.
Fair enough. I do agree with you that WvW and PvE should also get some sets. Just be prepared since they are going to be expensive and VERY grindy if the HoT legendaires and price of the raid set are any indication.
I for one will probably be just getting the 2 ascended sets that come from raids unless the skin is absolutely amazing
I expect nothing less than grind, frustration, and gold sink. Just like with the weapon pre’s. And they should be comparable to the raid effort to an extent (though I hear mixed reviews on that). Bring it on Anet. Bring it on. (I guarantee I’ll still whine, but it’ll be good natured whining.)
Generally speaking, I’m always happy to lend a hand if I’m not busy (or playing with my husband). You can add me to your list of helping hands.

Legendary items are pretty spotty for me. Most of the skins I don’t care for, and the tier, well I care about that not at all.
I only like a few of the skins myself. Most legendaries (when I finally choose to collect them, and I will eventually) will end up reskinned to fit the theme of the character they reside on. I don’t care about the purple text either, in truth. I care about the promise of always matching top stats (in case they ever do go back on “no new tiers”) and the functionality that legendaries possess (the ooc stat swap).
Yes, people will argue that its cheaper to craft ascended and rune / sigil them as needed because there is no easy way to swap these things out on legendaries, short of overwriting them, which can get expensive. However, how much that convenience is worth (not to mention bank and inventory space) is going vary from person to person.
(edited by LanfearShadowflame.3189)
Once again people are missing the point of the argument being made. It has nothing to do with the skin applied to the raid items, and everything to do with the tier tied to the items. The point set forth is that there is no other way to obtain that tier of item via any other means, and that’s where the issue lies. Not with the raids having their own skins. By all means, they should absolutely have their own skin sets.
Most of the examples set forth are skins – wvw armor, chak weapons, aurics weapons, glorious armor. Yes, absolutely, specific skins for specific tasks. That’s as it should be. This is not the problem.
Even the legendary back piece offers two routes of acquisition (fractals or pvp). They are different skins tied to the specific means of acquisition, and that’s fine. That’s great actually. But that’s all people want – more acquisition options for that tier of item. They aren’t asking for it to be “easier.” They aren’t asking for it to be “handed” to them. They just want options.
^ This exactly. I don’t care if the skins are raid exclusive. I, however, want a way to get legendary armor (I don’t care if it’s ugly) via another route. Legendary weapons and Legendary armor have much more use for general players, hence why most MMORPG’s use armor and weapons as the most popular things to attain.
Raids being the only specific game mode to obtain legendary armor is hogwash. Way to alienate and chase off players ANET.
What they should do is implement it in WvW as well and release Legendary armors in raids at the same time it’s also obtainable in WvW. God knows that game mode could use much more loving.
Ideally I’d like to see a set for fractals (maybe matching the back piece in theme), one for pvp, one for wvw, and maybe one for “general” pve. The pre’s could be collection hunts just like the weapon pres. Hell, give me a collection (or 3) for each individual piece per weight. I’m ok with that. I never said “make it easy.”

But it does have to do with the skin and the assumed prestige of the item since legendary items are the same stat tier as ascended items.
For instance people craft Twilight all the time, (chose Twilight since it’s one of the most popular Legendaries) even though according to GW2 efficiency it costs 2361g 66s to craft. For that same price they could have 26.2 ascended greatswords (90g 7s each)
Now according to Anet they want a full set of Legendary armor to cost the same as a legendary weapon. The new legendaries in HoT cost between 3027g 89s (Astro) and 3217g 79s (Nevermore). Now ascended armor costs between 534g 97s (Heavy) and 620g 29s (Med) a set.
So put these numbers together and at best a player could have 6.01 sets of ascended armor and at worst 4.88 sets for the cost of 1 set of legendary armor. As an added bonus each one of those ascended armors could have a rune set tailored to the use it serves vice some generic set that kind of works or one that does not work at all.
You’ll note that a lot of us that are discussing the legendary armor could give a rat’s kitten about the actual skin involved. We’re looking for the functionality that comes with the legendary tier essentially. This way we don’t need to stick a couple dozen sets of armor and weapons in our banks for purpose “a” and purpose “b.” It has nothing to do with “prestige” and everything to do with that fact that changing a rune/sigil set and swapping armor to another character is easier and less hassle than having to dig through an entire wardrobe of armor in my goddess forsaken bank! (Not to mention bank space is a bit of a premium)
You want the raid skin to show off your raid kitten? Fine. Great. Have at it.
Don’t tell me I can’t have a specific tier of armor in a game based on cosmetics where stats are’t supposed to be a “big deal” just because I’m not interested in running your one specific brain dead rat race. OPTIONS are not a bad thing. Get your kitten on elsewhere. If you feel having as legendary tier of armor available via another means somehow belittles your acquisition of them through raids, that’s your own insecurities talking.
As interesting as this discussion is to watch, I have to say, cloth is something I never seem to have enough of. I used to have lots of leather, since it was easily salvageable, but with the changes to how much was salvaged from items, I’m getting a bit behind on that too. I tend to get a lot more weapon drops than armor drops when I play, so I salvage plenty of ore and wood.
So, since some of you seem to have “plenty” of leather and cloth, do please mail them my way.
