1.) I know that and did write it in other threads. I would be pleased on locking class in Q :-).

If it ever happen we should get a possibility to change our builds in resp zones. If I will be locked on one class with one build that sucks because in opposite team have some hard counter to me, then there is no fun in play.

I don’t imagine we’d ever lock builds, just your profession. You could even swap to another character of the same profession since they’re share the same MMR.

How would you do this though? The allowing of a switch from character to character as long as its the same class.

If you have the same MMR on two different classes (theoretically possible, not sure how hard it would be to do exactly) wouldn’t it then open the the floor to the argument that you should be able to switch to that one too? I’m sure your initial gut response is “no” for mmr tracking accuracy (among many other variables, like team composition), but if you can accurately determine that the player is swapping from say one thief character to another, could you not also as easily determine that they swapped to an ele with an equatable mmr value and apply any changes from the match played accordingly?

Technically allowing someone to switch to a profession with the same MMR would be fine. The only reason we want to lock is so you can’t switch to something that invalidates what matchmaking just finished working with. Even if we allowed a particular MMR range of available other professions, the user experience of that feature would be bad and not worth it.

So, doable, but not worth the extra defensive coding and logic necessary. Thank you for appeasing my curiosity.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

You can’t die while doing it. Let the guy finish talking first and let Braham do his “you should see this” line. And occasionally one will get stuck IN the wall, which will bork you.

There are a couple extras so one or two in the wall isn’t a problem.

You know, I thought that too, considering I got the achievement on my first try. I had to go through it 3 more times with my husband before he finally got it.

You’ll be happy to know that you will get both the opening and end date for the Wintersday Festival. I agree with everyone who expressed opinions in the past that it’s very helpful to know the extent of a festival, and it’s my belief we’ll be more forthcoming about end dates in the future.

We appear to have only got the start date. No end date on the News blog that I could see.

Nope, they didn’t include it in the blog, but it was in the MMORPG article that came out this morning about PvP Season 5. I quoted it several posts above.

I know, but only a tiny number will see that. Since the blog is linked from the login page, if it is an oversight, better for it to be picked up sooner rather than later.

Technically, only a tiny portion will even see the post Gaile made stating they would give both the start and end dates. But still, you have a point. Such information should be readily available via their news posts.

They may not necessarily mean ‘drastic’ when using the phrase ‘shake up.’ It may just be verbiage with the intention of expressing “change is coming.” And it is.

Soft resets at the beginning of each season is a new change. Its also something many have requested.

Placement matches are new as well, and again something that the community asked specifically for.

The removal of pips as part of the match making equation isn’t new, but the separation of the pips/rewards from skill gauge are new. Looks like 2 new systems being implemented for this. I’m 100% certain they will have their bugs (what new system doesnt?), but we’ll see how it goes.

Overall, I am mildly interested in seeing how things work this season.

New players are being encouraged to rush

LanfearShadowflame.3189

I see a lot of this as well. The “get to 80 as fast as possible” mentality, and I actually blame other games for it. They encourage it, breed it. The whole thought process that the “fun” doesn’t start until after the leveling is done. The “hurry up and wait” game, so to speak.

So people rush, and then we see lots of people asking “ok, I’m 80, now what?” We’ve seen it on the forums. I see it in LA a lot. I see a lot of people asking really basic questions in LA too, because they “fast forwarded” through the leveling and don’t understand class mechanics or game mechanics and are confused.

Anytime I see people asking for leveling advice, I always inquire if its their first character and encourage the ‘slow path’ when I can. After all, life’s a journey, not a destination, right?

When stat swap utility on non raid armor?

Second Go look at most threads about getting Legendary Armor Most ask for either Easier raids to acquire it or it to be added to open world which by definition easier than Raids so yes it is asking to be easier to acquire. ( I.e. More time/more gold does not equate to similar difficulty)

I have read many of the threads. Many of the people asking for an easier mode just want access to the story involved in the raids. A lot of them could give a rat’s kitten less about the armor. Several have even explicitly said that the ability to earn items towards the armor could be removed from the easier mode.

There are ways to balance out ‘difficulty.’ You equate difficulty to skill, others may equate it to stamina and perseverance. You don’t view it that way, fine, that’s your opinion. Doesn’t make it right.

Third if they were interested in raids they would find a way to do them, if they have time to spend in game they have time to work raids into that playtime, it comes down to the players priorities and effort, I have limited time to play this game I am still able to get done what I want in my limited time. So yes it’s a lack of motivation/effort, they could put forth the effort to find a guild that Raids when the times they play, they can attempt PuGs during the time they play if they really wanted to raid and work towards the Legenday armor.

Sorry, but no.

I’m one of those people that would like to give raiding a try. However, I’ve not been able to find a NA group that does it between 8am and 10am weekend mornings when I’m available and PuGs at that time of day for anything are not plentiful.

Nor do groups want someone that can only give maybe an hour to an hour and a half on a weekday night on an inconsistent bases because my life doesn’t kittening revolve around a game. I’m sorry I’m a responsible adult with a job, a commute time, and a family. That’s not a lack of motivation, desire, or effort (because I’ve obviously looked and been turned down).

So take your self–righteous assumptions and shove them.

I have gone through those post there were maybe 2-3 people generally only wanting the story, when there were more trying to use that as a way to get an easier road to Legendary Armor.

There are more than just NA guilds that raid on NA servers look around you would be surprised by the OCX/SEA guilds that raid. And I am a responsible adult that has a full time job a Family and I am able to balance in time for this video game to accomplish what I want. you are providing excuses that’s fine that’s up to you, and it impacts me not one bit if you raid or not, or put forth the effort no need to justify yourself to me, I couldn’t careless, I am just a nameless person on the internet.

I’m aware there are more than just NA guilds on NA. My point is, I’m on a NA server and despite having looked, I’ve have 0 luck finding a raiding group that meshes with my schedule. There are a few on EU servers, but I don’t play on EU.

You’re assuming / setting forth that people that don’t raid do so because they are scared, lazy, or both and my point was that that assumption is entirely inaccurate. Its narrow minded. You seem to be of the mind set that because you can do something, so can everyone else, when that’s obviously not the case given that not all situations are the same. You see legitimate reasons as “excuses” because “you do it just fine.” Goody for you, we are not all you.

When Anet gives me 9 heroes with which to raid on my time, I’ll more than happily do so.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

When all you want is an easier way to acquire something since you don’t want to put the effort into raiding to get the rewards.

This comment grates on my nerves so very, very much.

First, many (likely most) have not asked for it be easier. They have only asked for an alternative option. So stop making assumptions that options equate to “easy” because they don’t.

Second, there are people that would be interested in raiding; however, assorted reasons may prevent them from doing so. Its not necessarily lack of skill, lack of desire, or lack of motivation.

Why is the endgame so "unrewarding"?

Some of us still feel that ascended should never have existed. Some left, some grudgingly came to accept it, some ignore it all together.

I don’t necessarily agree with the assessment that “endgame” isn’t rewarding, since to me the game is what you make of it. Do I think some things have exorbitant crafting material requirement? Yes, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I find the game “unrewarding” in general. There is a difference.

Reaper, Druid, Mesmer, Guardian can all do staff / greatsword.

Of those 4 I’d probably say Reaper or Druid, but that does require you to unlock elite specs. Granted, if you’re crafting Nevermore, you’re going to be out in HoT anyway, so probably not a big deal.

For Druid, I play staff / gs similarly to how I played lb / gs. Staff is just a bit more support based as opposed to lb’s offensive style.

I don’t typically use gs on necro, primarily because I don’t play a power build and I don’t like how slow it feels. However, I do see a lot of pve necros that run around with it (and minions).

Just Bought the Game, Feeling Overwhelmed :(

LanfearShadowflame.3189

Q1 – What is the best way to preview a profession and hence choose your starting profession? The level 3 PvP access or the level 80 boost trial? If the answer is the PvP access, then can you give me insight on how to test a profession in that zone? Do I try some skills out on the dummies or should I play a PvP match?

I’d actually recommend using the level 80 boost and running around Silverwastes on a few different characters to try to get a feel for what they can do. The only issue is the boost doesn’t really give you an assortment of weapons to work with. Just one set, which you may or may not like. But to just ‘get an idea’ it should be sufficient.

Pvp is ‘ok’ for previewing classes as well, but hitting a dummy is only going to give you half the picture you’re looking for.

Have you played a MMO before? What types of classes have you enjoyed playing in them? Maybe we can give you some suggestions on classes to try to help you along.

Q2 – Ok, after I’ve picked my profession and used the level 80 boost now what? What should be my #1 priority: grinding gear, getting mastery points or leveling up my elite specialization? Can I do all three at once? What zone or quests should I be doing?

I don’t recommend using the lvl 80 scroll on your very first character honestly. You can, I just don’t recommend it. My opinion on the matter is that you should take your time leveling your first character. Get to know the class. Learn its mechanics and the games mechanics by progressing in a more ‘natural’ fashion. As opposed to just diving in, potentially getting frustrated and overwhelmed, leaving you with a bitter taste for the game.

With the scroll, you’ll get a set of defensive exotic gear, which is fine to start. As you learn to play, you’ll probably want to swap out to a more offensive stat set. Ascended tier is currently Best in Slot, but isn’t completely necessary unless you’re doing hardcore raiding, high level fractals, or just have that completionist itch. The most reliable way to obtain it is to craft it, and it requires max level crafting.

Definitely start unlocking the elite, it adds depth to the class and gives you tools to play with.

Yes, in a sense, you can do all 3 at once.

Q3 – I know there’s PvE gear and what not, but is there PvP gear? In PvP does everyone have the same gear and just different skill builds/specializations or is that not correct? What are glyphs and runes, and where do I get them? Also if there is PvP gear, where can I get some?

As Terrowyn highlighted, PvP uses a different set up. The stats are a bit more ‘normalized’ in pvp and has a limited set of available stats. In theory for easier balancing. The general idea with pvp is that everyone should be on equal footing. You wear your normal pve gear and can use your normal pve weapons, but the stats applied during pvp will come from whichever amulet you choose from the pvp build window.

WvW on the other hand is a whole different animal. ‘Equal’ is not a word that exists there.

Q4 – What is the difference between dungeons and raids? Is there specific gear/things to do before I try this content or will the level 80 boost skills/gear be sufficient?

Dungeons are shorter than raids and are typically considered easier encounters. They only require 5 people, and don’t necessarily require you to be level 80. They also have a story mode and an exploration mode, with the exploration mode having 3 different paths, for a total of 4 different potential experiences for a single dungeon. There are presently 8 dungeons in the game.

There is currently 1 “raid” in the game. It consists of 3 “wings.” Each wing is a single path with 3 (major) bosses along it. These require 10 players and coordination (much more so than dungeons) to complete. You’re going to want to get to know the game first, and then likely find a raiding guild that teaches new members, in order to get in to these.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I need help, im a bit confused ...

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189

LanfearShadowflame.3189

Generally speaking, it’s not about grinding gear. Do you have exotics? Those are sufficient unless:

  1. You plan on raiding
  2. Plan on doing high level fractals
  3. Have an itch for BiS gear

If you want to get in to raids or fractals, exotics are fine to start with and you can work on building ascended gear. Its recommended that you have at least ascended trinkets to get started, and crafting gear will likely be more efficient so you’ll need to look at leveling your crafting to 500 if you haven’t already.

At this point, though, its probably more about finding things to do that you enjoy. The only thing to ‘accomplish’ in the game are goals you set for yourself, honestly. For some that’s weekly raids. For others its getting to fractal 100. For others its getting a legendary (or 3). Yet others enjoy WvW as their daily ‘end game.’ Others enjoy map completion and completing the story. Some, like myself, do a little bit of everything. GW2 doesn’t hold your hand or lead you around by your nose. It really does expect you to stand on your own two feet and just play (for the most part).

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

So until they give equal access to all modes across the board the armor should stay tucked away.

I was going to address each of your points, but I’m just not going to bother. You are stuck in your ways and are perfectly content to tell everyone else to go screw themselves until your demands have been met. Regardless of the fact that things have changed and will likely continue to change. You don’t feel any of our arguments are ‘valid’ because things don’t work exactly as you feel they should. Which makes continuing this conversation completely pointless.

No I see whining about items being locked behind certain gamemodes when this has been the case since launch, and the people whining now are the players with the access to majority of all Legendary items With the biggest gate behind their preferred gamemode, and are content with getting everything while other gamemodes don’t.

So unless you advocate for all gamemodes getting equal access to all Legendary types your whining is just that whining for a shiny you cannot get.

First, not whining. I was merely pointing out where you were wrong regarding the current state of legendary acquisition. Legendaries require components from all game modes presently. Some components are still presently locked behind specific aspects that do not have alternatives, but most have more than one option. Legendary armor, unlike weapons and back pieces, does not. Period. Thus, is a step backwards, not forward.

Second, if you look through my posts, you’ll see that alternative options have been something I’ve always advocated for. I’ve gone so far as to advocate for mode specific legendaries with a combining option for unique skins akin to how Sunrise / Twilight / Eternity work as a means of showing off that someone does mode ‘x’ or mode ‘y’ or a combination of modes.

As such, I’ve always stated that there needs to be other means of acquisition for the legendary armor as well, not just raids. Ideally there should be at least one armor set, back piece, weapon set, and trinkets of legendary tier for each major game component – Open world PvE, WvW, Fractals, Raids, and PvP. Each should have their own distinct look.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Up until the GoB putting in the reward tracks players did not have to participate in WvW to obtain the GoB, Now they can afk in WvW and have a GoB in 4-8 hrs so the amount of WvW is not even comparable

This is beside the point. Your entire argument is that legendaries are entirely an open world pve thing, which they obviously are not and have not been for a little while now. Keep in mind this change was done entirely at the community’s request, if not precisely how they wanted it done.

Additionally, you can’t just afk. You do actually need to do ‘something’ to get your particiaption up, and then continue to do ‘something’ every 10 minutes to retain your participation reward and as such get the reward track tick. It’s actually faster if you actively run with the zerg if you’re on a server where there is actively a zerg during your play time and its actually doing ok. Some of us run into issues with that.

Yes, there is always EotM, but that can be hit and miss as well. It also doesn’t generate as high of a reward track tick and as such takes a tad bit more time too.

when it takes a minimum of 19hrs of active game play to Map Comp for a GoE and that’s with a speed clear, not to include the Side objectives part of Map comp for the collections.

Not sure it takes even that long for map completion anymore. And it’s even shorted for HoT completion. The time sink there is generating enough currency for the assorted racial gifts, and even that can be cut down with the currency boost potions.

Additionally, with the changes to the recent Legendaries like Eureka and Shooshadoo, there aren’t even collections anymore. It’s just a matter of grinding the right currency and making the components. The currency can be gotten via reward tracks in both modes. The only catch being that you need to do the story to unlock the reward track. Perhaps they should be on rotation like the dungeon tracks and then doing the story just unlocks them permanently, but that’s neither here nor there. The alternative exists.

I wouldn’t be upset if they made each game mode have an equivalent amount of effort be required for all the Legendary Weapons then they wouldn’t be locked exclusively to Open World. It almost used to be that way at launch when WvW was needed for Map comp. but there has been a big bias on Open world players being pandered to for Legendaries.

They aren’t completely locked to “just” open world anymore, which was the whole point. They havent been for a while, and that’s completely due to the demands of the community. A lot of people actually felt people should have to do all modes to be able to obtain a legendary. Anet at least gave us alternatives on some of the items, for those that don’t enjoy doing other modes. Options are not a bad thing.

Yes, legendaries were heavily open world in the beginning, despite map completion requiring wvw borderland mapping and building badges of honor for the gift of battle (which, wasn’t necessarily easy prior to the implementation of achievement chests if you weren’t on an active wvw server). Of course, at that point the only means of precursor acquisition was to play the mystic forge or buy it off the TP too.

Things have changed and evolved as time has progressed. Locking legendary armor behind a specific mode is a step backwards, not forwards. They just need to get additional sets in (WvW, Fractals, PvP, open world) so that alternatives are available and all will be well.

If you do not multiloot you might also want to invest in ectoplasm. People are starting to hoard already (supply dropped from 900K to 700K) and the price has jumped from 28 to 34 silver.

Ecto was 50 silver before multiloot.

(disclaimer, I am sitting on 100+ massive globs of ectoplasm)

I want to say I have 750 ecto currently. All of which are earmarked for things I’m currently working on, and I’m still like 600 short. So I’ll be happily farming myself into a stupor this holiday weekend.

Oh really go try to buy the precursor to Chuka and Champawat, or HOPE, or Nevermore or Endeavor, or Shooshadoo again no options and buying a precursor on the TP is not an option for the other game modes not having options to Legendaries. So your argument is completely evacuated, there are no options besides Open World Pve for Legendary weapons even more so for the HoT weapons.

You really do not read/listen well do you?

OPTIONS to get the functionality of the legendary is what is discussed here.

You can buy any legendary weapon precursor you want and enjoy the functionality of it being a legendary. Only the HoT skins are locked behind the crafting collections, not the legendary weapon functionality.

You want a legendary staff? Do the part of the game you want and buy the Legend. Same for the short bow, the pistol, the axe and the shield. The skin is locked, but not the legendary property of the weapon. There is a HUGE difference. Read plz.

Again why should I have to buy it off the trade post and not be able to make it in any game mode I choose?

Technically speaking, this is something all people run in to at some point. Legendaries are not just ‘open world pve’ and many of their components now have options they didn’t have before via reward tracks..

Gift of Battle? WvW reward track only. You have to go play wvw regardless.

Gift of Glory? 250 Shards of Glory – PvP or TP

Gift of Battle? 250 Memories of Battle – WvW or TP

Weapon specific gift? Dungeon grind, WvW reward track grind, PvP reward track grind. No TP option at all.

Mystic clovers are no longer locked behind flushing materials down the Mystic Forge. They can be gotten through several WvW and PvP reward tracks.

Obi shards are no longer locked behind karma. They can be obtained from an assortment of map currencies as well as from assorted reward tracks in both WvW and PvP as well.

Even materials can be obtained, with enough time, completely through WvW and PvP reward tracks for the other components.

The only thing that remains truly ‘locked’ to open world pve are the map exploration gifts.

Yes, the collections require you to do an assortment of events and find an assortment of items, but you have to do map completion anyway, so meh….

I don’t have an issue with the name. I think it fits considering she kind of looks like the glass, color wise. She’s also mildly iridescent.

I believe it’s been stated before that they don’t consider it an exploit. This states that the see it as exploit-like, which is understandable. A lot of people see it that way.

This is just telling us they are going to fix it. So do your farming now, cause it’s going away.

u don’t need to do entire path, just need to be at the last one, that plant bomb on tree.

No, you don’t “need” to. However, from my experience (especially due to my play times) if you want to make sure you get it done in one go, get there at the start and just do the chain as a whole. Pop a mentor tag and ppl will come help. Should get it done in like 20 – 30 minutes depending on scaling (the wreckage scavenge is always awful).

We all pretty much agree that we want new armor sets (3 weights, 2 genders, 5 races).

They’ve stated that full sets are an “expansion thing.” (Not surprising, nor uncommon)

That pretty much wraps the topic in a nut shell.

This “can” be done with just the two of you, but generally I dont have an issue getting people to join in if a tag (mentor or otherwise) pops up.

Use the timer on the VB page (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Verdant_Brink) to know when the map is about to enter ‘Daytime’ and start the chain from the beginning. Should be able to work through it in plenty of time. You need to completely “blow up” the tree before the nightime warning pops up (Daytime is waning or whatever is it).

BL Chest Rant

I don’t mind some of the changes to the black lion chests, though I would have done a couple of things differently. Such as making the seasonal item being its own guaranteed slot in addition to the original 3 slots. I’d also make the uncommon / rare slot pop just a tad bit more often than what it presently does. It really should consistently pop ~3 times per set of 25 keys, with a heavier weight on an uncommon reward over a rare.

I have mixed feelings about 1 guaranteed “convenience” item and 1 guaranteed “progress” item in each chest. Especially with the seasonal taking up 1 slot, it really limits what you can get with a single key.

I’d be fine with solo / duo queues.

I feel matchmaking should take into consideration the composites of teams its forming though. So that sides are set up similarly if at all possible. While I’m sure 1,1,1,1,1 vs 2,2,1 is viable, there will be many that would be quite displeased with it. Hopefully that is something being looked into / considered as I know there would likely be equally as many that would be very unhappy if they couldn’t team up with any of their friends.
