This game isn’t a sandbox it’s a themepark, the way you described this game sounds more like minecraft…
How can a game with a vast, logically designed world ever come close to being “theme park”…. ?
You go to different parts of it to do specific things. Just like a Theme Park.

Thanks Astral. I already have a personal Guild with Bank just opened up on my first account. That’s the guild the ones from the second account will be in too.

There was a red reply posted on a reddit thread that gave a bit more info:
Tivac Lead Web Programmer 7 points 37 minutes ago
This latest problem is related to changes our CDN providers made to protect users against http://heartbleed.com/ – the Mac client doesn’t deal well with HTTPs certificates changing.
New Mac build should be happening soon with a fix for this.
Thanks for finding that. Makes sense now.

As you’re just starting out, let’s get one thing straight. This is not WoW. There are no Classes, they are called Professions in GW2.
Now that that’s out of the way: Welcome!!!
I personally love Sylvari, and the other Race I’m fond of is Asura. I would recommend those. I enjoy Ranged combat, and enjoy my Rifle Warrior, and Ranger the most, but your mileage may vary.
The game’s a blast. Have fun.

Hello all,
I talked to the Mac team this morning. A fix for the most recent TP issue is going in today. Regarding the on-going issues in this thread, they tell me that it it actually spans across more than the Mac client. And they’ll have more information on those fixes later.
Thanks for the update. I can’t imagine it spans more than Mac though, because I booted up in Bootcamp Windows this morning and it worked fine.

At 10g for 112 gems (my current price) it would take 70g for a character slot. I only have 40g right now, and I want to level my characters, not concentrate on making gold.
BTW: What’s the maximum number of character slots you can have on one account?
Updated every Monday
… why not just get more character slots with gems?
You can convert ingame gold to gems and buy the slots directly. And this way the achievement points, etc are all shared.
It’s only 24.99 for 5 more slots and lots of bag space. It seems like it’s a slam dunk while it’s on sale.
Updated every Monday
I just want the extra account for more Character slots and more bag space. I don’t intend on playing them at the same time. So it all looks good from my end.
I guess is there’s a really hard skill challenge that one of my characters can’t handle, and I can’t get help from anyone, I could fire up the other account to help out, but that will probably never happen once we have Megaservers.

Just to put a cap on this discussion.
I went and updated the wiki with this information:
10-20 (2-4 each of 5) fine materials
for each of Tier 1-5.

But you can make the same or more running the champ train and you’re not “stuck” in a dungeon. You can always try a couple and see if you like it. If you do, I suggest watching video first so you can at least know what to expect.
How do you make good money on a Champ train. Don’t they only give a few silver each? I guess the gear you get nets a bit more, or maybe I’m running the wrong train?
Salvage and sell my friend. If you do the Frostgorge Sound champ train, you can make average 7-8g per hour (sometimes little less, sometimes more). Personally, I salvage all except exotics worth 1g or more. you get lots of T6 mats, and with salvage, you’ll get lots of silk. You get lots of blues and greens as drops. You also get dropped silver plus whatever silver you get in the champ bags/boxes. If I do the champ train Saturday and Sunday morning for a few hours I will net about 50g.
Ahh cool. That’s where I’m going wrong then. I’m still leveling all Crafting so I always just deposit all to my collection where ever I go.
Thanks, I will do Frostgorge soon. I’ve been running the Queensdale one.

Here’s the workaround that worked for me. Not for everyone though. I booted up Windows in bootcamp, waited about an hour for the latest GW2 to download, and then played in Windows. TP worked fine. It certainly beats messing around for 10 minutes trying to get the Mac version to work. Now that it’s fully downloaded, it will only take me a couple of minutes to get to the Windows version.

What do you mean ‘Loot is not random’ with your definition of random.
It can’t be predicted, so it’s random.
It may have an algorithm for how likely, but then it comes down to random whether you roll right to get it.
It may not be able to be predicted by you, but it is not random.
It’s like how to you, meteorites are random because you can’t predict when they will show up but to an astronomer or astrophysicist, the meteorites are completed scheduled.Loot drops based on a formula. That formula is hidden from view and further veiled by an algorithm that selects a number to give it the appearance of randomness. It is not random though.
You’re talking about a fixed percentage chance of getting something. Fine. Yes. However, whether you actually get that item given that chance is totally random.
If it’s a 4% chance, you have no idea whether you will roll 1-4 to get it, or 5-100 and miss out. That’s the random part.

Wait, the math doesn’t work. How can 18-slot cost less per slot than 15-slot? Something is very wrong. Did you, Mystic, take the additional cost and think it was overall cost, or something?

Alright, I’m in.
Item Name: Superior Sigil of Frailty
Quantity: 100
Total Purchase Price: 23g 99s
Listed Selling Price: 79g 95sI do not understand your return on investment formula, the total purchase price divides by itself, which will always come out as 1.
In my case (if all sold): (79.95 * 100) – (23.99 / 23.99 * 100%)
= 7995 – 100Makes no sense to me. But I guess we’ll figure that out after the april 15th.
I guess you missed reading the part about the initial purchase being under 7.50

Sure you can have 2 accounts with 2 different e-mails, and log them at same time, but for that you need to buy 2 copies and register each one.
Thanks very much. And sorry for another question. If I make sure the 2nd account is on the same server, can they all be in the same guild?
This seems like a great way to get more character slots and more bag slots given that it’s on sale for 24.99 right now.

*Chorus of yeses on the forum
*ANet puts in their updates “Good news! Commander tags now account bound!”
*People post complaints about wasting hundred of gold buying multiple commander tags.
- People demand that ANet refund them because they “lied”.
- People threaten to leaf teh gaem.
People with only threaten to leaf teh gaem if they play Silvari.

Hi,
Can you have 2 accounts with different emails? Do you need to buy 2 copies of the game to make this happen?
If you can, can you launch two copies of GW2 at the same time with your two different accounts logged in?
Thanks.

Also, once you’ve become good at it, it’s a really lucrative way of getting a lot more gold.
Hmm, well that’s something to consider. The more gold I get, the more gems I can buy, the more I can improve my account.

Nice one Dave. Looks like you’ve pretty much beaten the game. However, there are still Legendaries to get, right? Also, have you played all races? If you haven’t, play the ones you haven’t for the different Personal Story take on things.

Why not? In fact I am. I did them last night.

TLDR: Drop the Living Story and start delivering new, permanent content.
To be honest, I’m actually amazed we get any new content at all in a non-subscription game. I’m really surprised they didn’t just make GW2, leave it as it was, and all started working on GW3.

I just did more research over on the wiki and followed links that said ‘verification requested’ where some people had actually posted their drops.
It really seems like, for all the bags except the Heavy one, it’s 2-4 of each of five fine materials. That would explain the weird spread on tiers 1 – 5 that I got. It can be anywhere from 10-20 and doesn’t depend on the Tier.
I will get one more set, just to make sure they do all fall within 10-20.

Thanks everyone. As a pretty casual player, nothing much interests me in what you have described I could get in Dungeons that I can’t get outside them.

- Consider spending the gems on a set of permanent harvesting tools. I would never have suggested this before they became account bound items (they used to be soulbound to just a single character), but now that you can pass them between your characters they can be quite convenient.
Permanent harvesting tools? Are all three available, and how much are they?

Hi,
What will I really be missing out on if I don’t do Dungeons at max level? I am having fun with Champion trains and the like, and don’t really feel like doing Dungeons at all. But what am I missing out on?
Thanks.

Thanks for that Darwin. That seemed like really old advice that doesn’t work now. I’m actually thinking of bootcamp tonight just so I can actually sell some stuff on the bleeding TP. Nothing seems to work on the Mac side atm.

So back to my original question. At the current conversion rate, how long would it take to grind enough gold for 800 gems? If I have the choice between working a fraction of an hour, x, in order to earn enough money to buy 800 gems and grinding in game for x+1 hours for the necessary gold, why would I do the latter?
I checked in the TP for the conversion rate on my server and it was 10g for 112 gems. So, it would be about 70g for 800. Your mileage may vary though.

BTW: If anyone else has bought any of these and has their own results, please add them here. That way, maybe we can figure out a range, or whether there’s a range at all.

What most players havent realized yet is u can put 4 different colored bags in the mystic forge and a 25 slot rainbow bag will pop out. Only works for players who have transfered to JQ server.

Hey Scotty,
One of the things we’ve seen fix this issue is if you to delete the Guild Wars 2 folder located within your users library folder. Here are some steps to how you can do that:
1 Click on the “Finder” icon located in your dock or the desktop of your computer to make “Finder” the active program in the finder menu bar.
2 Hold down the “Option” key on your keyboard while clicking “Go” in the finder menu bar. A drop-down will appear.
3 While still holding down the “Option” key, click on “Library” in the “Go” drop-down.
4 Once in the Library folder click on Application Support > Guild Wars 2
5 Move the entire Guild Wars 2 folder to the trash and then empty the trash. The next time you launch the BLTP it should load up.
Has this worked for anyone?
Do you do this before launching GW2, or while GW2 is running?

Hi,

So, I bought 1 of each. Here are the results:
Tiny – 19 Tier 1
Small – 18 Tier 2
Light – 12 Tier 3
Medium – 11 Tier 4
Large – 16 Tier 5
Heavy – 3 Tier 6
Don’t know if the numbers are fixed, or if it’s like xx-yy for some tiers. I might buy another set when I get more Laurels to see.

Leaving the game for over a year.

Well, obviously they would have to boost xp for regular recipes a little bit to compensate if they take discoveries away.

I also think that’s why they added the ability to buy them from the Laurel vendors for 1 Laurel for a bunch of fine tier materials.

BTW- Is there a Laurel vendor in Vigil’s Keep? The wiki is no use. It says there’s one in Lion’s Arch. I know where the one is in Divinity’s Reach, so I’m not stuck, but I’d prefer to use one in Vigil’s Keep if there is one.
TIA.

5-slot bags have been dropping from starter zone champions since the game started. They aren’t part of the champion loot bag.
OK. My mistake. I thought they dropped from the bag when I made the post, but remember now that they just drop from the Champion itself.
My bad.

Yep, want more players in the maps I’m leveling in. I sometimes get help when I need it, and sometimes don’t. With Megaserver, I hope I’ll always be able to get help when I need it.

Hi,
One of the key parts of crafting is Discovery. But, if you’re leveling a craft, you don’t just ‘discover’ stuff. You go to a website that tells you what to do, and do it. Discovery is not serving it’s purpose in the game, and one wonders why we even need it any more.
Just let us learn the recipes at the right levels and get rid of Discovery IMHO.
What do you think?
Updated every Monday
Take another look at the map of Tyria, be hyped for a new zone, don’t think about an expansion.
Why do you even want an expansion, what do you expect in it?
New Race or New Profession
Level up to 90
New 80-90 zones
New crafting material and Craft to 600
New features
Updated every Monday
1) GW2 doesn’t follow a traditional levelling curve. It takes just as long to go from level 2 to level 3 as 79 – 80. Which means that although the early levels can seem slow compared to other games later on it will seem quite quick.
This is the key point. Coming from other MMOs, the first 10 levels can feel incredibly slow. Just enjoy the ride, and the levels will come.
Updated every Monday
I don’t know the exact figures either, but the lower level crafting bags DO give more of each. You will get more total T3 mats than the total T6 (3) mats from Heavy Crafting Bags, for example.
Economically it might even be worth it if the amounts are high enough (again, I don’t know exactly how many are given), but given the incredible prices for T6 mats, odds are that even if you need lower level mats, you’d be better off trading Laurels for Heavy Crafting Bags, selling the T6 mats, then buying the lower level mats.
Hey, that’s not a bad idea, if I give up my – no buying from the TP, and change it to, only buy from the TP after selling stuff of more value
