Linsey Murdock post middle of page 1.
Thanks. Nov 16th. That’s why I didn’t find it. I didn’t go back far enough.
BTW: Read via google that Linsey doesn’t work for Arenanet anymore. How come?

That’s an old blog post. I’m talking about a recent post in a thread on these forums.

Hi,
Wasn’t there an Arenanet post by Linsey Murdock about working on the Precursor Scavenger Hunt but that it wasn’t the only thing she was working on and that she was human after all?
Well, I can’t find it. I’ve looked at pages and pages of Dev posts, and it’s not there. What the heck happened?

You go to a Master Craftsman in any main city, and tell them you want to learn their craft.
Go to a city, click on your map, and then click on the little eye in the bottom left corner, and turn off everything except the Crafting Stations. Then, you should be able to see them fine on the map. The Master Craftsmen will be by their respective Crafting stations.
Then, use the guides here: http://www.guildwars2-crafting.com/
BTW – when you click on a crafting station (that’s how you open up the crafting menu once you’ve learnt the craft), the upper most left button is the ‘Discovery’ button.

BTW Oglaf, I don’t feel the same as you do.
You only need Crude Salvage Kits, and only need to salvage white items. You get enough cloth and leather doing that, along with all the bags that drop that contain that.
I’ve never had a problem with Cloth and Leather. Fine materials however, is another matter!
Cheers.
The issue of Oricalchum and Gossamer is a different beast though; both are randomly gotten when salvaging and in order to maximize your chances you need to use the higher quality Salvaging Kits which cost around 15s each.
Except that Oricalchum can also simply be gathered.
Repeat after me – Orichalcum, Orichalcum, Orichalcum

All right!
I’ve HAD IT with perceiving cr@p! Time to bring out Judgement!
GW 2 is a prototype and that it will remain. Too many half-arsed things. Too many broken promises. Grouping and loot are basically non existant unless you tryhard. I relish people looking at me in awe because I have Purple weapon, not this half arsed communistic cr@p. I AM LEFT WING, but what is too much is too much kitten
Shame on me for allowing the emotions to get a hold on me. And shame on Arena Net for outright lying about their product! The product that is for 14-18 year old kids! No gore. No maturity. Cabbage people and ugly gnomes(at least they were scary n ugly in GW 1). No loot. No Sense of accomplishment. Only Total carebear attidute. Meh…
Perhaps I’ll be playing something else…
I don’t understand what you’re saying about no grouping and no loot. The grouping in low level zones has been fine for me, and what kind of loot do you expect at that level? Make sure to talk to the Heart guy after you’ve done the Heart, because he will sell you good gear for Karma.
What gore were you actually expecting? IMHO, the races are well done, and the Personal Story is likewise, very entertaining. I don’t know what you were expecting here. Not much Gore in other MMOs either.

Yeah, that’s great.

Good luck.

As we most things, it’s probably better just to farm gold and then buy them off the TP. Molten are about 13s right now, with Destroyers at about 39s.
What are the obvious reasons that you’re not willing to buy them off the TP?
Cheers.
Keep in mind that even buying them off the AH isn’t that cost effective because you need two and 25s per combine because you need to buy wine from the mystic forge merchant for every 2. So you are still spending at least 1.05g per combine. It is even less cost effective combining shards to cores because they still have the 25s requirement per combine.
You don’t need to combine them for Incinerator. You need 100 Molten and 100 Destroyer.
Cheers.
He’s talking about converting Cores into Lodestones. Yes you need 100 molten lodestones and 100 destroyer lodestones.
That’s why I deleted that post. After paying close attention to what’s needed on the wiki
Cheers.

Good point. I didn’t know the recipe for the Legendary.
You can just buy the Lodestones then.
Destroyer is 1g 35s and Molten is 75s.

One thing I’ll mention. I don’t think I will ever be able to go back to having to stand still to cast. I didn’t really like the Combat in GW2 at first, but now, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I agree on most parts but:
Hearts are actually worse than quests imo, dynamic events are good though. I much more enjoy questing (hearts) in GW1/WoW.
I’m interested in why you think this. I can see no possible reason that anyone would think Hearts are worse than WoW quests.
Cheers.
Because in WoW I can actually accept and turn in a quest collecting rewards ranging from weapons, armor, gold, and reputation that gets me access to unique pets, mounts, and gear. I don’t like the karma system in GW2, and the hearts just magically showing up and getting completed without so much of a turn in takes away from the experience for me.
I like conventional quests and events, but hearts are just a dumbed down version of conventional quests. Oh sure, I can ‘choose’ to either fix some traps or kill mobs but honestly I just go for the fastest route on any heart to get completed because they all have crappy rewards and are boring. The ‘choices’ it gives you aren’t anything revolutionary lol.
Every WoW quest opens up with a story and a reason why you are doing what you are doing.
Thanks for the explanation. I agree that the loot system for WoW quests is better, but as to the other stuff you mention, each to their own. I was never interested in ‘why’ I was doing a quest in WoW.
Cheers.

it’s not unfair…armorsmith needs to mine + salvage to get cloth….yet you can sell all the ores you gather.
Incorrect.
You do not need to salvage for Armoursmithing. It is an optional way of getting extra ore at the expense of Salvage Kits and loss of loot.
Duh – Armorsmithing needs Cloth. That’s what he was talking about.

1. I have 2 lvl 80’s with 100% map completions, I understand how the NPC Skill challenges and the dynamics of the game is supposed to work. so please stop responding like I am an idiot.
Well, nothing of that was apparent in your original post, or your second one, so how were we to know. And we came to reasonable conclusions. No one was treating your like an idiot.

The only issue I have with WP costs is that they scale with your character’s level, not the zone level.
I think it should be much cheaper to use WPs on my level 80 in low level zones.

No issues for me now. It was really bad early today, but it looks like (hopefully) this emergency maintenance might have fixed it.

OP,
1. For events, they give a bit of coin that probably covers the WP cost, and then you get Karma and XP in addition. Not bad.
2. While out there doing other stuff, maybe the mobs don’t drop much loot, but make sure to pick up all the crafting mats out in the world. You can sell them on the TP for a bit of money. For example, I was in Southsun Shore the other day. I had no clue what the Passifloras were for, and was dis-heartened when it only gave Passion Fruit (a low level component), but then two in a row gave Unidentified Dyes that I sold on the TP for 11s each.

Why are you shocked? So many play this game that there are bound to be those with issues that they talk about on the forums. We all have different expectations for the game, and some people aren’t satisfied.
And, for every thread that is negative, you’ll find plenty of positive stuff inside the thread too, so a newcomer to these forums shouldn’t get the impression that everyone is upset over the same things.

There’s something here you aren’t aware of. The Karma vendors are only unlocked when the various Temples become uncontested. And getting them uncontested requires a chain of DEs in which the last of them is really tough.
So, don’t expect them to be uncontested too often on your server.
There are other ways to get level 80 Exotics though. Crafting (or buying the crafting ones on the TP), Dungeons (getting dungeon tokens and exchanging them for Exotic gear), and there’s also WvW PVP, where you can get tokens and exchange for Exotics (so I believe).
What I would recommend you do first, is go to Frostgorge Sound (70-80 zone) and do all the Hearts there. Talk to all the Hearts vendors after completing the Hearts and get the Green gear with Karma.
Also, if you want to skip that, you can get Green level 80 stuff from the TP pretty cheaply.
Good luck.
BTW: Orr is composed of 3 areas (Straits of Devastation, Malchor’s Leap, and The Cursed Shore). So, being in Straits of Devastation, you are already in Orr

I have a level 80 and 4 alts. Sometimes I play my 80, sometimes I play one of my alts.
With my Alts, obviously I’m leveling, and do zones, and personal story and gathering and crafting.
On my 80, I am going for Map Completion, so currently doing high level zones. I also did my first dungeons yesterday. Also, gathering and leveling crafting up.
I’ll probably play my Alts more now though.
Cheers.
Thanks for they reply. Isn’t this the same thing people do in WoW?
Don’t know what you’re getting at here.
But no. The only thing the same in WoW is having a level 90 and several alts.
But on the main, you would probably be running 5-mans, or LFR, or Raiding, and not doing any sort of Map Completion at all. You’d be striving for the best gear. Other than that, you’d be doing dailies non-stop to grind Valor.
On your alts, yes, you’d be leveling and crafting.
BTW: I forgot to mention that I make sure to do my Daily achievement on one of my characters every day.
Cheers.

Great feedback, thank you. If going for dungeon armor, do tokens from different dungeons add together? Meaning, do I need to farm a particular dungeon for a particular armor set?
Each dungeon has it’s own type of token. For example, AC has Ascalonian Tear.

Wow. This shows that people will complain about nearly everything. You want to mindlessly kill enemies, OP? GO ahead. Why you want to level up that way though is totally beyond me. Exploration is the GW2 way of doing it. If you want to grind, grind Exploration.

Thanks all for the tips.
This story has a happy ending.
Last night, I decided to try out Southsun Shore and see what it was like. It was tough running through Karka, but I did manage to get some great crafting mats, and two passifloras in a row gave me Unidentified Dyes
. Then, I decided I was dying just a little too much so went back to LA to see what was on offer dungeon wise.
I got in a FOTM level 1 group. We had a blast. I told them about gw2lfg.com and we got one member from there. We did the Volcano, and the Icy one. Then one person DCed, and we decided to call it a night. But we all agreed it was a blast.
Thanks again everyone.
EDIT: BTW – I finally figured out the chat system. You can change where your text ends up by right clicking in the little box to the left of where you type. Now I have one chat with Map, Party, and Whisper, and am a happy little camper.

To those who support an extended level cap: what do you gain from this other than an ego boost? You wouldn’t actually get any stronger. The same enemies and content that are hard now would still be hard due to level scaling. All you’d be doing is forcefully outdating all of your gear making everyone grind again for a new set. Why would you want that? Is your life so devoid of accomplishment that you need to have a bigger level number just to feel good about yourself?
It’s more content. More zones to explore. Better gear to get. Different gathering stuff to raise crafting to 500 (?). Isn’t that what people are always saying about this game, that the journey and leveling are the best parts? People are always saying there’s no end-game in GW2. Why not give them 80-85 or 80-90 content?
Cheers.

Thanks Recycle for making me aware of a couple of things I didn’t know. I had no clue about popups, and the whisper thing was pretty stupid on my part. I just can’t get used to the chat system in this game at all. If I select more than one thing, I can’t seem to control what it sets it to when I type. So, that’s why I’m using different tabs. But I realize now not to do it for whispers.

I’d love it. Have new 80-90 level zones, and raise the cap to 90, or 80-85 zones and raise the cap to 85.
Why would people be against this?

a lazy solution for the situation , is that a level 80 player can get his ‘events’ daily achievement only from level 80 events in orr.
I tried that once, got everything except kill variety. Kill variety was 2, I know one was risen whatever, but I still don’t know what the other was.
Too true. This was me last night. Got all my events, gathering, number of kills in Orr, but only had 3/15 kill variety LOL.

Sorry to the OP but most of the stuff (aside from poopie loot) is not Anets fault. This is an MMO, Orr is not meant to solo ever. It stinks but it’s fact. I understand where you’re coming from I have had similar experiences but they were mainly my fault thanks to rushing.
There is a solution for everything you listed. Patience, practice, and Google/Wiki. I hope tonight is better for you!
So, who’s fault is it that I didn’t get a popup when others in the group entered a dungeon? Who’s fault is it that I didn’t get whispers in my map chat because I had a whisper window (well, I guess that was my fault a bit). Who’s fault was it that all the NPCs dis-appeared after I checkpointed?
And, did you read what I read? I never said anything in Orr was problem. I didn’t have a problem with not being able to solo a Skill Point. I know I needed help with it.
Anyway, as always, the GW2 community has shown itself to be really great and helpful with their comments here (except you and Vol).
