Hi,
Does it give 6K Karma, or 600 Karma? I could have sworn it was 600 when I clicked it last night, but the wiki says 6K. Am I mis-remembering, or is the wiki wrong?

Well, I do. I love it.

Hi,
I left the game over a year ago and came back recently. The Mac Client was Beta when I left, and is still Beta. How come? Betas don’t usually last more than a year

Thanks. I play on a Mac. Anyone know where the cache file is on a Mac?

Umm, they’re not Dailies, they are components of Monthlies. Why do we only have to complete 2 components for the Monthly.

I have only encountered friendly players on Devona’s Rest. I ask questions and get answers. I asked for help yesterday on an Event and gave the WP. Someone showed up and immediately helped me out. Overall, I’m happy with the friendliness of the player base, especially on Devona’s Rest.

Hi,
Keeps on happening to me on multiple characters. Just spins and then is blank. Doesn’t bring up the Gem Store. Then same thing if I click on Sell.
Pretty game breaking atm.

Hey, a question to you guys then. Is DR for mobs based on the mobs, or the player. That is, if I log into another character, will DR already be in effect from my first character on the mobs she’s killed, or will DR start over with the 2nd character?

Problem is that some of us are on low-populated servers for a reason.
So, why not let the players choose instead of forcing the “multiplayer” thing on us?
If there are to be several map copies anyway, it seems reasonable to let players see which ones are highly populated and which are empty. Than choose what they prefer. Map selected by the megaserver system could display as a suggestion only.Umm, this is a multiplayer game. Perhaps you should switch to e.g. Skyrim if that is a problem for you.
The fact that it is an mmo should not be a reason to punish the players who prefer playing alone. Till now there always was a choice of choosing server or less popular map. I don’t see why should it be removed completely.
I honestly can’t see any reason why it’s better to be on your own versus having other players around you in GW2. They’ve made it so that everything is better with more players. Maybe you can enlighten me.
I’m sorry, but I can’t help but notice how many people are saying things like “I don’t see why that’s a problem”, “There is nothing wrong with this” or simply things that boil down to “I’m right, you’re wrong”. Basically, whether or not you agree with other people’s issues is not really relevant here. What’s relevant is that a whole lot of people have various problems with this and whether you understand them or not does not change the fact that they are there.
I think that while reading and posting in this thread, we could all do with taking a step back and properly try to empathise with other people’s concerns rather than to outright say that you just don’t get it, because I believe that does more harm than good. A minority’s opinion is far too easily overwhelmed and forgotten about if enough people say, “What are you talking about? There’s no problem here.”
I apologise if I come off as aggressive, I just don’t think it’s productive to question people’s concerns like this just because you don’t agree with them or understand them. With an example like the one above, one can easily come up with several reasons even if you don’t agree with them, like:
-They prefer to play alone because of the quiet.
-They don’t have time to commit to multiplayer activity.
-They want the challenge of facing the game alone.
-They’re just a lonewolf kind of person.People have very different priorities and therefore very different problems, and there is no guarantee that you (as in everyone including myself) will understand them even if they explain. That’s it.
I asked people why they enjoyed Low Pop, because I couldn’t figure out why.
They did. It added content to the discussion. sheesh

So, playing like a bot is killing the same stuff for 20 minutes trying to get mats for crafting? I remember killing 10 of something and getting 3 Tiny Claws. Then killing 10 and getting only 1. Then killing 30 to get my next one.
Updated every Monday
But I can’t see the distinction. Isn’t there already tons of Copper Ore on the TP? Why would it matter if there are tons of Tiny Claws on the TP. I’m not asking for one per mob, but if I get 3 after killing 10 mobs, I should get about 3 killing the next 10 mobs.

Hi,
How come we can farm nodes to our hearts content on multiple characters but when we farm mobs, we’re subject to DR?
I suggest they get rid of DR on mobs. If I want to farm Tiny Claws, I shouldn’t be subjected to DR on the mobs that drop them. It’s one of the main reasons I left GW2 before. I would like to see this addressed.

How would harvest nodes be affected by this change? Because I’ve still got lots of deldrimors to make and piles of iron and platinum to collect. I don’t mind going to a map to find the nodes once, but I’d hate to come back with another character 30 seconds later to find I’m in an entirely different instance of the same map.
^^ This is huge for me
Why’s this an issue?
Aren’t node maps the same on all servers?
And, if you come back after 30 seconds on a different character, couldn’t the only outcome possibly be positive, having mode nodes not gathered (if on a different map). There couldn’t possibly be less, just the same, or more.
No, every server reset the nodes are randomly placed per-server based on a group of potential spawn locations. Under the current system you could come back to a map with a different character and mine all the same nodes. Where as under this new system you could come back and it would be full of new nodes, but in completely different places, because they aren’t tied to your server anymore.
OK. Thanks for the explanation. IMHO, that’s sort of a exploit, and not actually playing the game. So, I welcome the change.

Skins allow the look of armor or weapons to be changed without changing the stats on the item.
Ahh. Like Transmog in WoW. Then I don’t care about them.
Updated every Monday
Probably not true. Just because there are more people on the map doesn’t mean they’ll necessarily be in the same place as you. If you want to go off and be by yourself somewhere out of the way, you should still be able to.

What’s the granularity of MegaServers? That is, when will it be re-calculated which map we’re put on? When we log in on a character until we log out of that character? Or every time we take a portal?

GW2 is not subscription based, so number of current players isn’t as important. Unlike WoW and ESO. So comparing these games with each other is a bit ridiculous.
Paradoxically, the number of current players is more important for a buy to play game like GW2 than it is for a subscription-based one.
If players don’t play they don’t buy gems, which is what supports the game. Conversely, in subscription-based games there are a minority of wealthy players that do keep their subscription active even in periods of time when they have very little time to play.
Fair enough. But investors look at actual revenue rather than number of subscriptions (which they pore over for WoW). The argument was made that GW2 is doing this because the game is dying. I see it far from that, as it’s an excellent feature to get more people playing the game.
And just to be real. Cross Realm Zones were like MegaServers. Connected Realms is essentially merged realms, which one could say WoW is doing because the game is dying.
Updated every Monday
Yes… yes it is… WoW had 13 million players, they lost 5 million so they needed to merge the dead servers down to keep the population up.
ESO is launching with this feature so that they don’t have to deal with bad press in the future if they ever needed to merge servers. This is a smart marketing move on their part.
As far as I know people didn’t ask for this feature until many months after launch when people started hitting max level and the mid range zones were all dead.
Also I haven’t seen any responses here actually calming that the game is dying… just that they are merging servers because the population is too low. Those are not necessarily the same thing. And the game is merging servers with this new plan, that is pretty clear.

Absolutely awesome. Anet hit a home run with this one. With the way the game is designed, the more people in an area the better.
WoW did this with Cross Realm Zones, and because of the way that game is designed, it was horrible.
Great job Anet.

Server reset is at the start of the new day, midnight GMT. For me on EDT it’s GMT -4, 8 PM (it was at 7PM before we went on daylight saving).
Thanks. Yeah, it’s 5pm for me, which is quite convenient actually. I have the evening to get the daily done. I’m going to see if I can do the monthly too this month.

Thanks. What I did was sell the extra copper ore which gave me a nice bit of cash. Yeah, I’d forgotten that I had started a Guild and don’t know if I have enough influence yet to get a Vault.
However, I’m now using GW2 wiki and will probably not have any more questions here.
Thanks for all the help getting back in the game everyone.
BTW: Bought the rare Rifle for my Warrior with 63K Karma last night as it was a good upgrade.

Hey BG. If you see 3 posts above yours, I said I found it by going to Mists. Thanks for the clarification though.
And, if I may, I have another question.
I deposited my stuff to my collection yesterday from my backpack, but some Copper Ore stayed there. Does that mean I’m maxed out in my collection? What is the max of an item in a collection?
I hope you don’t mind if I continue to use this thread to ask questions.

Thanks.
I’m 0/2 in getting the daily done since I got back, but now have a much better feel for what’s required and how to do the stuff. I’ll give it a real go tonight after 5pm.

Ha ha. I agree with you OP. I’ve been gone for over a year, and came back to the same zones, same number of levels, same way to get gear etc. Seems like most of the changes have been PvP related.

Go to Queensdale(human starting zone), unlock waypoints there, then join the champ train.
What does this mean? Is it High Level players going to Queensdale and doing Champions there? If so, I’ll have to give it a try.

Thanks everyone. Yeah, I new a bit about Lion’s Arch attack, but I thought maybe they would have put everything back after it was over.
Vigil’s Keep sounds a bit tricky to get to, but I’ll give it a go.
Shame about the Karma vendors. The Temples are never open on my server.
The easier way to get to Vigil Keep is to go through the portal in any city that would normally lead to LA. Or click the crossed swords icon at the top of the screen to go to the Heart of the Mists (PvP lobby) and use the portal there.
Yep, thanks. I did go to Mists and found the portal there.
Now I just have to try to remember, or look up, where all the zones are compared to the home cities.
Can you guys tell me at what time the daily resets? I was playing last night, and dailies had reset, I was back to 0/5. Why don’t they reset at like 2am or something?
And ChaoticStorm – Thanks for the vids. I guess it does sort of make sense now in a cheesy sort of way

Hi,
Haven’t played for over a year, and decided to come back and play again. So, I’m totally out of the loop.
1 What’s happened to the portals in Lion’s Arch? I used to take those to home cities all the time. Have they been moved to somewhere else, or are there no portals anywhere near Lion’s Arch?
2. Doing daily stuff. I recognized some stuff from before, but after getting 3/5 with the Kills, gathering, leveling, I was stuck. What the heck is the Mist daily stuff? Is that a new place? If so, where is it and how do I get there? What is ‘Activity Participation’? I was in events etc. and it didn’t seem to count.
3. One more question about Karma gear. IIRC there were a couple of vendors for this that you needed to get waypoints for somewhere. That is, take them over. Are these still the only vendors of good gear for Karma, or are there others now?
TIA. I’m sure to have more questions, but getting back to my home cities are the priority right now.

I’m thinking of maybe coming back too. The two things that I didn’t enjoy were:
1. Diminishing returns of farming items
2. Dungeons were hard and not rewarding
Are these still the case? Has anything been done about them?
BTW: I logged into a character for the first time in ages lately, and had tons of in game mail. Got tons of PvP items and stuff. As I don’t PvP, what should I do with it?

What’s the reason for lockouts? Slowing people down. And of course the rep grind, 25 daily quests, they want you slowed down.
Guild Wars 2 dailies are NOTHING compared to WoW dailies.
To be fair. You don’t need to do any dailies to gear up in 5.3, and they’re completely removing the rep requirements from gear in 5.4 So, I think even Blizz sees that these dailies were a bad idea.
Cheers.
How many years did it take them to do this?
Does it matter? Your point is fine. WoW is a gear grind, and they want you to take your sweet time getting that gear. They add new content all the time that gives you new ways to get the gear, and new gear to get. It’s a treadmill, granted. GW2 is totally different.
But to get back to the point of the thread, isn’t it kind of sad that it looks like no more levels and no more zones for GW2?
Cheers.

The game became un-fun for me because of:
A: Dungeons – too hard and rewards weren’t consistent with risks and effort involved.
B: DR – Why oh why do they have this. If I want to farm for Tiny Claws, why they heck aren’t I allowed to do it?
So, back to WoW for me.

If you like farming mobs for certain items – this isn’t the game for you either.
Diminishing returns is really bad. One of the reasons I left the game. I like the WoW model thanks very much.

Actually, no OP.
It was refreshing to go back to WoW and have some great Dungeon runs. It was refreshing to know what quest rewards I was going to get before I did a quest. It was refreshing not to have to do Jumping puzzles (I know they aren’t mandatory, but certainly felt like it).
GW2 has some great features, but also some meh ones.

I love gw2. a lot of things are done right. Dungeons are a mess and are the main reason I will not recommend this game to friends.
The starter dungeon AC (story mode because its first for new players) is insanely difficult and requires what amounts to throwing yourselves at your enemy until they die. over and over again. I’ve only succeeded when grouped with 2 or more level 80’s
I was coming to the forums to post my frustration at AC. I was going to use the phrase ‘insanely difficult’ so I totally agree with you.
I am a recent level 80 and we had a couple of other 80s and a 76 and 58 or something. We kept dying/rezzing/repairing. Eventually when we got to the two bosses that you’ve got to try to keep apart, we kept on wiping over and over. WTF? This is a level 30 dungeon.
So, given that dungeons are out of range, there’s not much point sticking with the game. I re-subscribed to WoW last night, and look forward to some dungeons with an actual LFD tool, and actually making progress.
Cheers.

Why don’t people understand randomness.
Why don’t people understand that computers aren’t capable of true randomness.
Yes I do. A psudeo-random sequence is generated. Then it’s used in the game. But the pattern of that sequence based on the seed is psuedo-random and you cannot predict it. This has no bearing at all to the
Say the next 5 values in the sequence are 56, 04, 67, 91, 99 out of 100. Then the first 4 could be the guy needing 92 or more with MF, and the last one could be guy who needed 96 without MF.
You guys don’t seem to realize that pseudo-random IS effectively random for any conversation ninvolving luck.
Cheers.
