You pick a mastery to level, once your bar is full you click on it and you can spend them.
Think the xp got nerfed.
With this said, to be able to unlock the elite specialization you only need 60 points, which isn’t that much, so you can still experience the new specialization by mixing the olds ones with the new ones.
Err have you played HoT? No one wants to use a kitten 60pt whatever intro spec. Especially in this difficult HoT content. You’d be 2/3rds of a character.
Yes I’m playing HoT and enjoying the new specializations, No one wants to start a game at level 1 either, maybe we should all start at level 80..
When you start a game at level one you are facing level one opponents. Starting an elite spec means being effectively sub level 80 while facing post level 80 content.
That was not even the point, the point was before you can reach level 80 you need time to reach it, the elite specialization is no different that is why it is called elite, there is nothing preventing you from using your old build to unlock 2 or 3 masteries to be able to reach the new hero points, and then start building the elite specialization.
It’s the same logic as anything else, before you can start bulding new gear you use the older gear.
So you say people should just run around with 2 and a half trait lines when most bosses will just one or two shot you? When the map was designed for lvl 80 in a decent gear? Hot is not where you’re supposed to level so please don’t compare it to starting as a lvl one when everything you’ll face there will be weak lvl ones, too. Didn’t see any mobs with just half of their skills in Hot, yet.
I don’t mind Hero challenge giving 10 points being slightly difficult, but some of those you need 10 people to bring them down, its kinda ridiculous.
Not to mention, those hero challenge are often restricted by mastery gating, so bringing people to them right now can be hard too. It’s launch day and I can sit near a hero challenge in the canopy for an hour without someone coming to help, and even if someone comes, that’s still 3 people short of killing the kitten thing.
Why are you playing alone in lunch day? Why you dont have party of firends who traind the same mastery and do same explorations?
Why don’t you let everyone play the way they want? I didn’t find a sing ‘’requires at least 4 friends to play’’ anywhere when I was buying hot.
Building the basics of your character should not be that place.
I think this is exactly the issue. People shouldn’t be gated by xp, masteries and the requirement to get more people just to progress with their own character.
While they thought it might be challenging, it’s rather just challenge of ‘’getting enough people willing to follow you to that kitten place where the HP is’’ and I don’t think that’s right.
I also feel bad for people who do not have enough time to play and will be progressing slowly and then have issues getting all these HP’s to unlock their elite spec just because there are huge walls in front of most content in this xpack.
I agree that masteries would be a more fun system if they weren’t region locked, but I can’t honestly think of a way to do that that doesn’t also make old content obsolete as new content and masteries are added.
Idk…complete this map to unlock masteries you will need in next map? At least you dont have to redo the same map over and over.
So, basically no reason to do a fractal at all if you have no daily?
You still get a normal, lootable chest at the end.
But the real “loot” previously was from the bouncy “bonus” chest after doing a set.
(Ascended gear, Fractal skins, etc.)I guess I won’t be doing Fractals until after I grind through the Fractal mastery.
If my memory wasn’t so horrible I could tell you if I got wiggly chests on 50 and 51, but alas it is. I think I got them, though.
Just saying that you can run different scales and still get some loot at the end, even if it’s not so great. Kind of makes me wish they’d take the rewards and toss them into specific fractals so you can farm them, but like that’s gonna happen
I did both 50 and 51 and only got 1 daily.
So, on the positive side, it isn’t quite a 66% nerf. The dungeons that gave 1 gold + 26 silver before now give 35 silver + 26 silver, which is closer to 50%.
On the negative side, dungeons give a lot less experience, which is what I thought was going to be their saving grace. This is quite annoying given that it is not what I thought was meant by “liquid rewards”.
On the very negative side, they paid absolutely no attention to our recommendations back when they were collecting them because they wanted to pretend they cared about dungeons. The one piece of feedback that was almost universally given was that Ascalonian Catacombs should be brought into line with other easy dungeons. This was ignored. You can count me among the cynical now.
The experience is quite huge as there are very little places in the core game to get xp. For just one mastery out of 4 in the legendary crafting you need around 1.3 million. Now when dungeons give you less than 100K…it’s pretty harsh.
Well that’s because of the bi-polar nature of the game. Always fighting between “casual” play, however you define that, and requiring as you put it “an effort”. In your case the effort was obtaining 100K or more T&T bags, likely from the TP or “grinding” (another word open for definition) the previous Halloween event.
That doesn’t make the mini rare, it makes it exclusive to the tier of players where gold or gaming time isn’t a limiting factor in play.
Yes, it actually makes the mini rare as not many people have it, ya know?
It was 1.5 million bags.
My point is its kittening ridiculous to hand it out for free this year.
If thats your point, then its invalid as it is not for free. People have to farm or buy 100,000 corn in order to get it. I know you are annoyed because rng was against you, we’ve all been there when someone who has played 2 weeks gets a precursor drop but its rng (which I hate) and all you can do is move on.
No, the point is that they added something, which was rare. Letting people spend gold and effort to get it only to make it WAY easier to get next year is complete bs. Getting 100 cobs takes close to no effort. No, RNG wasn’t against me, the mini was actually rare. Making it common is the reason why I’m kittened.
I don’t care if there was a 0,1% people who got it in just a few bags as long as the mini remained rare. I do care when everyone who farmed for it can only feel like an idiot for doing so since they completely ruined the value of the mini.
So you weren’t interested in it as just a cool mini but as a sign of “good fortune”? “Big bank”? “Carpal tunnel?” Since it was account bound it’s not like it’s price on the TP crashed.
I got the mini because I liked it and because it was rare. There is basically nothing rare in gw2 anymore since they just readd old rewards and let people have it for way less effort. I don’t know how people think that’s okay. Oh ye, let everyone have everything since it would be horrible if people weren’t able to get rewards for old content they didn’t play, huh?
My point is its kittening ridiculous to hand it out for free this year.

100 cobs is too easy and unfair? Get out. That’s like 400 gold.
So horrible. Totally comparable to buying 1.5 MILLION bags which each are worth 5s and opening them. You get some of the money back but it’s still way more than 400g.
And some got it in under a stack of treat bags as posted in this thread. What’s your point?
Yeah, it was RNG. There definitely wasn’t many people getting it under 1 stack. The sample size last year wasn’t that great. There were lots and lots people opening millions of bags to get the mini. My point is its kittening ridiculous to hand it out for free this year.
Does this also means people without HoT can’t get fractal weapons too since the vendor is walled off behind mastery?
It’s not, it’s restricted to completing lvl 50.
Your options are:
1. Sell unneeded ascended items to vendor for +coins
2. Salvage unneeded ascended items for Legendary crafting for -coin -relicsSeems pretty reasonable to me. You’re only salvaging if you are working on a Legendary and those are SUPPOSED to be expensive.
We know. It’s not a big deal in the end. We gonna salvage what we need to get the legendary, keep a small amount of rings that could be usefull and sell the rest.
But the point is that some of us kept hundreds of rings waiting for the salvage with no information about it just in case and now we get kind of a slap in the face since we could have simply sell 90% of our rings. We were expecting to get online with the expansion and salvage all of those rings.
It’s on us for expecting for something more from Anet.
What I was expecting from fractals:
1. Better rewards, gold especially. After all they moved it from dungeons to somewhere. But sadly I don’t consider getting 10s for a fractal an appropriate reward.
2. No freaking RNG on it. What’s the point of that? Someone gets 5g and someone 10s for doing the same content just because they’re not as lucky?
3. Not pay 1g to salvage one kitten ring.
I think this is pretty reasonable.
I just lost ~1g running 2 fractals, the stupid box at the end gives me 10s back even though i have to spend 20s to open it wtf?
I honestly don’t know why they thought this is a good idea. I’m actually losing money for running fractals, wth? Why are the rewards RNG based? Jezus.

Is it bad that I can’t recall who Eir is?
Put it in a kitteng spoiler.
I got Gwynn, I forgot when, but I was opening TOT bags trying to increase my luck when out she popped…and it was not after a million bags, more like one stack.
I am thrilled that she is affordable for everyone
I felt like I had to use her as my only mini as she was so rare.
Now, I can run about with my Orange Fox, and Candy Corn Skritt, and all my favorites again.
Lisa-Going to bash wolves with her new Pumpkin Hammer..I hate Wolves.
Yeah, it’s great people had to farm for it and now it’s given out like candy. Maybe you got lucky but there were tons of people trying to get it for months. It’s certainly not fair what they did.
vendor got Gwynn mini for 100 cobs
Yeah, not happy about this. After a couple hundred hours farming the whole year to get one, they do this. Then they remove Maize farming completely on top of it.
Looks like JS just keeps protecting traders as the only ones allowed to have any gold in game.
I’m seriously kittened by this. Opening freaking 1.5 mil bags to get the mini only so they make it totally worthless now. I’m so disappointed.
For making the mini Gwyn so easy to get this year. Was totally worth to open 1.5 mill bags to get it when now it basically lost its value. Ofc, you could make a new mini for people to get rather than readding this one, but why right?
Why is that an issue exactly?
All you have to do is to press reset track once you’re done and you can do it all over again.
You can get ascended accessories if you like.

It really makes me wonder why such people play games at all if they can’t put any effort in anything ingame and have to rely on $ to get good. Really quite sad.
Because farming to unlock a spec will make you good ^^
And because if the option existed to buy out certain pieces of content with gems, it devalues the effort everyone else put in to get those hero points the normal way. This on top of setting up a dangerous precedent in the future for trivializing content with the Gemstore.
Stop trying to buy shortcuts through content, and realize Elite Specializations are not the same as Core lines, they are character progression. I am extremely certain future specialization lines will follow this pattern of earning hero points to unlock them as well.
Oh, I’m not getting the spec for my main since it’s trash. I’m just saying that farming HP to unlock it won’t make you good. Another player could be using that time to get better a different way and you do not get to say what works out better for him.
Never implied that getting the hero points normally would bestow great PvE prowess. And I do get a say on what works out better because it directly correlates to how not just myself but everyone else feels with concern to character progression. Having the elite specializations behind Hero Points is one of the ways Arenanet could have had new lines come into the game since increasing the level cap was out of the option.
Elite Specializations are what leveling 1-80 was to the original core Specializations where you gained hero points often to continue improving your current character. It’s similar to asking to buy character levels with gems. Do you understand now why it would be bad to set a gem price?
Did you even read my post? Did I ever say anything about the idea of buying the spec? No. I replied to a comment who said people want to rely on money to get good. Farming HP won’t make you good. Period.
No, you don’t get to say if someone feels he’ll get better by actually practicing his class rather than farming, sorry.
And it’s not really, I’ve leveled most of my characters without doing any levelling. There is no other option than actually go and get the HP.
“Another player could be using that time to get better a different way…” is where I drew the conclusion that you agree with the opportunity of the spec being purchasable since you correlate the entirety of earning the HPs as a lesser learning experience or waste of time. Perhaps that wasn’t your intent but you came off as justifying to me as making the gems an option to pay for free HPs since it was a waste of time to ‘farm them’ for some people. I apologize if that wasn’t what you meant.
How is the in-game activity to reach and complete Magumma HPs not practicing his profession if he’s going into the jungle with it? We can’t even compare the difficulties of HPs in the core with what is coming out in HoT but it looks to be a bit more of a trial than aimlessly killing the normal ‘Bandit Leader and 2 cohorts’ HP we get in Queensdale. I would hate it if the Magumma HPs turned into ‘Farm level’ content too, but I highly doubt that is what they will be even if doing Magumma completion for the 3rd or 4th time.
…And I presume by your last comment you are referring to craft-leveling, tomes, ‘Not leaving LA’ activities to level? Everything has upsides and downsides, although you achieved level 80 quickly you did not go to the Core game and get HPs, ergo you have more to do on those insta-level characters than your veteran ones.
Maybe actually read what I was replying to again. Several million times I said that I was actually pointing out getting those skill points won’t make you good. Different people have different ways to get better. I do not find nor did in any in those beta open world be challenging at all and it definitely won’t be when everyone will be there doing it, hardly a challenge.
Doesn’t mean running around pve map should be the only option to get the elite specs.

its not as bad everyone is making it out to be, its really okay, really it is
4 maps with 10 HP x 10 = 400 HP’s and if have done map completion or just done all the HP’s in core game you already 1/2 way to unlocking full elite spec. You just need just 60 HP to just to use it.
It really is. I can’t imagine running all of my 16 lvl 80’s through the new maps just to unlock elite specs.
I have 22 lvl 80’s and I have no problem going through the new maps to get the HP’s done
Well, maybe you enjoy farming, I don’t.
No, I mean ACTUAL hero point items like the flower from Morgans’ spiral and the keg of iced spirits from the worm hole in the starting Norn map. The items you pick up at a few of the challenges – you don’t get the point/XP ’til you use them
.
I’ve been stockpiling them for this moment.
Oh, that makes sense.
-snip-.
Idk what you guys do wrong, but the mesmers I know nearly insta kill anyone with under 20k HP who isn’t ready. Like, its not even a fight. If the target survives thanks to a passive proc, they stealth and either wait until they can burst again or swap to their alt set and go to town.
And as for mesmers, the ranger is one of the best classes for countering the shatter-burst. All utilities are excelent against it. SoS is obvious, LR stunbreaks, clears immob, clears vuln, creates distance from clones/mirror-blade, QZ breaks stuns, clears condis and provides instant counter preassure – even gs auto hurts the mesmer under quickness and so does super-speed pet.
Entangle forces a memser cd to get rid of, roots illusions and clears condis (vuln). Bark skin takes the first hit passivly, shared anguish takes the first CC. Rangers burst is strong, low setup time, lots of CC and mesmer lacks stability, taunt can counter stealth, RF can track in stealth, barrage clears illusions, pet stays on mesmer all the time if you call it, it doesnt get distracted by smart blinks or stealth, helps with quick retargetting, pet is faster then the mesmer which helps land hits, LB keeps the preassure at range. This is not theory, these things work (well worked until chrono) in practice against good mesmers as long as ranger knows how to use them. If he just stands still and pew-pews a random target, ofc he will die.
How can a good mesmer get hit by entangle? And even if so, they have one of the easiest time to getting out of it.
I have some items you click that give you skill points saved up — so I can have the skill point AND get the XP towards core Tyria mastery.
When I cash them all in I’ll have 210. Pretty much lined up to play continuously from launch until I have one of the world’s first fully unlocked Dragonhunters. Snacks, drinks, and music standing by for action!
I don’t think it will give you HP, tho…all of mine were converted into the shards.
Gl with that.

I don’t have school on Fridays so I don’t mind that much. I honestly think it’s better anyways as not that many people will try to download it and log in, so there’s a lesser chance of servers crashing. It’s not a big of a deal not to play it right after release imo since there’s no event or anything like that you would miss on. It will be there once you’re back from school/work.
There is a timer because some reward tracks are only open for a period of time if you haven’t done the story for it. Changing reward tracks will make you NOT lose progress for any of the reward tracks.
Well, you get chests with weapons and armour from pvp but honestly getting all armour would mean you have to do the track like 4 or 5 times. You can buy exo gear from TP (whole set would be around 40g) or craft it. There are several ways if you do not want to do pvp or wait that long. You get reward track progress even for losses but in a way slower pace. There are several dailies you can do to boost it, too.
Karma is pretty much useless unless you’re going for a legendary and you’re fairly new or haven’t done much of wvw/specific pve. I got 2 mill and I have no use for it honestly.

Yes., Berserker gear has usually berserker gear on it. Anyways, it’s main power, minor precision and ferocity.
Condition damage was never really viable on ele in pve, workable in pvp and wvw, but definitely not the most efficient.
That weapon is berserker. Again, you still haven’t said what mode you play but this would be best for pve, yes. The sigils should bee Night and force for night time dungeons and there’s a selection of what to replace it with for day time ones on metabattle.
I was wondering why there was no preload, too. It’s also because tons of people will be trying to download it at the same time and I’m not sure that will go well. Ever bigger patch there were download issues for many players, don’t want to see that tomorrow.
They could at least enable us to use Tomes of Knowledge for the specs, not everyone enjoys grinding xp to unlock it.
I honestly don’t know what gear you use because all of your stats are quite low. Anyways, there are quite different builds for all three modes. However, you can use similar builds in pvp and wvw.
You can find all the builds on metabattle.
tbh i would still pick a support guard over a support tempest. guard just offers so much more than tempest and the aoe cleanse is also better on guard because you get 2x condi removal with soldier runes where you only get 1 on tempest.
i would even argue that heal druid is better than tempest in terms of support.
I would agree that druid as we saw it in the last beta could be better than tempest as the amount of healing from it was insane. However, it’s gonna get nerfed so no one really knows how it will do when hot comes out.
But I don’t agree tempest is a new way to play ele, it’s pretty much the same with added skills and longer cd’s on attunements. I doubt it will be on the same level as d/d ele due to the fact you take d/d for both support and damage, for pure support you will just take a guard as you said.
Yes, please let’s make the game even easier than it is ^^
Maybe play the game to get cold rather than using your credit card?
my friends sometimes laugh when they see that i have an underwater legendary because in pvp there is 0 underwater combat. i don’t have kraitkin but kamohoali which i use on all classes that can use a spear lol. it’s one of the single best legendaries in the game with amazing effects and animations; even the aura is very nice and available on land with certain tricks :P
i hope one day spears become land weapons. or we at least get them as staff skins.
I got an underwater legendary, too. I originally got Bifrost first and then got every single legendary possible for ele. My favourite is still Bifrost, followed by Incinerator.
Imo, get whatever you like the most, no point in getting a legendary you won’t like, but I assume dagger will still be used in many builds and staff will be used at least in the old dungeons, I don’t know about raids.
We still have d/d ele spec to fall back of tempest wont workout fot us. D/e spec will still be the strongest even with the release of new spec
After 3 years of exactly the same spec a lot of people get bored though. That’s why I’m gonna change to Revenant main in HoT, so much new fun stuff.
Exactly my thoughts, every gear for my Revenant is ready, I will main Revenant until something relevant happens with Tempest. Reaper, Chrono, Revenant are so fun there is no need to play same old Ele.
Godly D/D is still there, if I miss him, I will comeback to it.
So basically you’ll only play a spec or class if it’s confirmed to be more or less overpowered by the majority of the game’s community? not trying to attack your position or anything, but it’s odd to me that people choose to play only the strongest and most meta things when we have such a large pool of possibilities that allow for a high degree of creativity, and the builds that we can create can be on par with those meta options.
Then my question is why you would play something worse? To be less effective? To get carried more? In every game people tend to play the strongest stuff, especially in pvp. Not many people have fun playing a spec that’s just a downgrade something.
So from my point of view I would like to see players having the choice between focusing on either dps, healing or eventually tanking. And before you start with ‘’gw2 has no trinity’’ go back to them saying you can play anything you want because there are people who want to heal or tank. Raids are a good opportunity for this to work, but after the beta I’m a bit worried it’ll go back to the mindless dps once people learn the bosses a bit.
Edit: Yes, in every other MMO I’ve always played a healer.
You realize that raids will create an even stricter meta, where certain professions just won’t be able to join. Not because of a dungeon taking 2 minutes longer, but because it would actually be unbeatable. This is something quite funny, because it comes from all the whine about zerker meta being exclusive and now instead we’ll get an even more exlusive one. Good job.
Oh wait, i actually wanted to comment on “mindless dps”. There is no mindless dps and there never was. If you did instances with only dps in mind, you were doing it wrong and either wiped a lot or were carried hard. I’m sorry that you never found out that you can support your party with boons, reflects, blocks, invulnerability, condition cleanse, stealth, CCs. It means you never played the game to its full potential.
That’s the issue of a balance, though.
And I’m sorry, I don’t know what game you’ve been playing but most group content does not require you to think about what you’re doing. Midnless dps doesn’t mean spamming your AA, btw. The content is just easy, far from being challenging and doing stuff as you described is just natural to everyone who has played the game for a while. You can literally run everything without focusing 100% and still not wipe nor lose dps.
if u are using those traits for condi ele than u need to change those traits.
Man, if only he could unslot Burning Rage.
That’s not the only thing wrong with the skills, pretty much everything is. I’m not quite sure why there is such a difference between the defenses Rampage and Tornado gets, while also having more damage, but it doesn’t seem like they intent to fix the skill, so you might as well use something else.
It used to be quite powerful due to the power buff you got from it, but they removed that cause apparently it was too strong.
It happens on every class, it’s a bug, it might be fixed, but probably not.
What is the point of these threads when HoT is coming out soon and the balance will be broken anyways? There will be stronger and weaker specs, maybe wait a bit to see how things are? There’s no need to overnerf ele.
Also, your problem with stacking 25 might should go to the nerf specs who can do so, too. But why aren’t you complaining about those?
It cannot be saved. I predict that after some unspecified time period, maybe even a year, tempest will still see the low popularity numbers and Karl will overbuff its numbers. And the pendulum of ele balance will swing again.
This actually makes me sad and I really hope it’s not going to happen. It already seems ele will have a difficult time to find a spot in raids and god knows what’s gonna happen in pvp.
I’m still hoping some miracle will happen and Karl will make it viable somehow, but I’m afriad you’re actually right.
