scrapper was a top tier class along with b/s mesmer bunker
mesmer got gutted and scrapper just got a couple of laughable cooldown increases, lol
Braindead option of d/p weapon set gives the class a bad reputation. It features every single annoying trait of thief identity while having next to no decision making or interesting interactions.
You can spam 3 until the enemy is in HP range for spamming 2, you can use 5+2 for a safe stealth and I doubt I’ve ever seen d/p thieves opting to use 4 to interrupt someone over using 3 just one more time.
Now that dagger auto-attack was buffed thief is in peril of getting smashed into the dirt again because of overpowered synergy of d/p weapon set while another weapon set which uses dagger auto-attacks (d/d) is perfectly fine and probably even could use a buff.
The bottom line is that its probably about kitten time to nerf d/p and buff other thief weapon options, except staff probably which seems to be in a good spot right now.
no more wall exploits for you OP
there should be an amulet with 1k power and 1k ferocity
thats all
bads dont realize that all you need on ele is equipping d/d and putting signet that heals on spell cast
after that you dont even need to target anything you just press 2345 while rotating your attunements and collecting free kills
And how exactly is stronghold easy boost to legendary?
because nobody plays it allowing organized groups of people to abuse matchmaking of that mode in their favor
also, bump
Tell me if I’m wrong, but reading you I have the feeling that you don’t really like Conquest. The thing is, you can’t enjoy GW2 pvp without enjoying Conquest (Stronghold is not balanced). So… this might not be the game for you. Have you tried Smash Bros 4? It’s a 1v1 fighting game, with a mix of offense and defense, and I don’t see why it’s so inferior to Melee, you bigots!
edit: also your character name is a bit lazy <3
thing is that I really like the identity of classes in this game, most skills are really fun and game devs did a good job in bringing to life the fantasy of most classes
also no doubt there are certain fun interactions such as combos (which unfortunately were extremely trivialized with that new update)
and im proud of my char name despite i made it up 12 years ago when i was 13 years old!
Anet fanboys can spit all the b/s they want in the defense of buying HoT update, but not when it comes to sPvP.
Because Anet guaranteed that in sPvP everyone is going to play on even terms and they destroyed their credbility by adding these pay2win specs in HoT and restricting players without update from using them.
There are several professions you can use to compete with. It’s only at the 5 v 5 premade level when it will really matter. I’m not sure why so many are getting their panties in a bunch, if you’re good enough you’ll have no problem playing core builds.
no its not only on 5v5 level where it matters and forcing people to play on uneven terms against those who pay is the definition of pay2win
take off your fanboy glasses man

If you do not agree pvp is now pay to win then you are fan boy cause, well……logic.
Lol. So ridiculous. New expansion, not everything balanced yet, just give it time. Also, I still do just fine on my vanilla necro, so maybe you all are just bad and can’t adapt?
i see you are having problems reading a simple sentence, let me explain this to you how they do this for people with certain issues
new specs are stronger than old specs
hence new specs win more often than old specs
to play new specs you have to buy update
therefore we get pay2win, see you next week on our special classes

Outside of typical complaints that sound on this forum (or reddit) Im going to adress problems which for reason never sound around. Probably because people got used to these annoying oddities or finding workarounds towards enjoying the game in some way.
1. Defense always overpowers offense in small scale fight scenarios.
2. Utility always accompanies defense builds making them even stronger than offense in teamfights and objective defense.
3. The entire pvp system is tied to fighting for small slivers of ground making it the definition of lazy idea and poor execution (outside of stronghold game mode which is mainly used for easy boost to legendary and doesn’t greatly differ from conquest anyway). Also the above two statements greatly worsen that problem.
4. Offense is not fun to play as or against. You either burst someone in a moment or get bursted.
5. Defense builds are even less fun though, I almost never see people going bunker chronomancer/scrapper/druid in unranked matches. Regular players suffer playing those boring builds only when they want easy rank points.
Thats all for now, going to bump this topic from time to time so that Anet can finally wake the hell up and realize that to make this game into anything fun they have to scrap the entire pvp system and get back to the drawing board.
you are all delusional if you think mesmer, crapper, ranger and rev wont dominate the meta anymore
those changes, even the mesmer ones are far too few for all the extreme advantages those classes have
nice traits m8, gl with ur stream advertizing
the best part about the whole stream culture are brainless fanboys making buttcults centered around foul and toxic behavior of their streaming idols
Agree, i think thats the best part about streaming too.
Lexander PM’d and said he wants to become a famous streamer too, please send him valuable advice.
I wouldnt become an internet clown even if I was offered a guaranteed revenue, but apparently there is plenty of people willing to part with their dignity just for a chance to milk the brainless twitch crowd for their donations
According to the recent Dev thread. Season 2 will rank groups by highest division. Meaning if one Diamond queues up with four Ambers. They’ll be facing five Diamonds.
Considering how groups are already weighed in with the current system. I don’t see how the solo queue experience needs additional rewards for queue’ing up as an individual.
5 premade diamond players on voice chat and with clearly defined roles are going to perform far better as a team than 5 random soloq diamond players, thats the point of that topic
premades should be matched against premades but i honestly cant see that happening
no idea what are you talking about, I easily access all the pods though which is the only real goal to achieve once DS is complete
agreed, a real man doesnt need those flowers, unicorns and rainbows
I don’t want a vast majority of the mechanical complexity of this game to exist, because it is too hard
/facepalm
this 4 year old meme? Seriously?
This was the exact same rubbish people were spouting back then, and we’ve all learnt it was and remains self-defeatist nonsense.
funny how u effed up all I said but still you dont sound convincing
conditions are complex and interesting as long as they help to disable the target setting it up for a kill with proper burst, such conditions are immobilize, slow, chill
however dropping 15 stacks of some kitten and then waiting for people to drop while hiding behind a bunker build has nothing complex or interesting and thats the sort of playstyle diamond skin punishes
actually having a scarecrow against condi spammer is making the game much more healthy since condi spammers cant bear a thought something counters them they have to play something else thus decreasing the amount of players with mad condi skills per match
To enable Replica Job-o-tron backpack phrases to work inside arena.
I just hate it that I have to go WvW to hear him saying “Kill—count—plus—one.” or “Commencing—search—for—loose—change.” when I kill a player.
Its time to share the fun of Replica Job-o-tron inside the sPvP too, especially considering how salty people get lately inside that ranked mode.
the PvE isnt that hard in that game to completely exclude some classes out of it just people are bad and filled with fear and prejudice and you cant do anything about it other than follwing the usual advice: “make your own raid”
tell your friend to not play when he’s on tilt
Anet is still tryharding to get their game into a cesspool known as esports and playing with your own team is a foundation of every esport game
so logically they will continue to allow full premades to kitten all over soloq since that is oh so fun for the premades
with all the free defensive CDs of rev i would hardly call him a non-bunker class, more like a mix of bunker and damage dealer
you wont even see any legit damage dealers such as sh?tter mesmer or d/p thief more than once every 5-10 matches
esports is the worst thing that can happen to a game
the only reason i came back to GW2 is because Anet’s attempts to break into esports fail every single time, thus promising a bright future to this game, unlike cesspools around such as WoW, LoL and Dota
faceroll tier:
engi, dh, rev, mesmer
unkillable tier:
elem, druid, mesmer
casual tier:
necro, dh
recycle tier:
thief, warrior
ye but HoT isnt about snow and norns so thats a huge plus
they stack
you get a 200% chance of doing a critical attack doooh
how to fix thief traps:
copy paste damage from DH traps and add an overkill of free buffs which are received upon trap trigger
the best part about the whole stream culture are brainless fanboys making buttcults centered around foul and toxic behavior of their streaming idols
the most difficult challenges have 0 RNG in them
while they are very hard to get gold at indeed you are just making up stupid excuses right now
it sounds like you are having really huge ping issues m8
something around 200-300 ms spikes
at the launch of the game thieves were dominating pretty badly but that was because the game was fresh and there wasnt any meta or builds so everyone was running full damage and getting 1-shot by d/d thief. 5-steal-1 instakills weren’t anything special back then
after massive QQ and thief nerfs bunkers stepped into the meta with guardians and engis being annoying af (apparently just like they are now), also back then necros cemented into their sPvP role which they still hold until today (not saying they are annoying though)
in 2013 i quitted until HoT so cant say anything about that period
Well done, mate, ignore the haters who can’t hold their spite, you really did something cool there.
Perhaps you can give some tips on how to deal with D/P thieves? I’m also running a staff daredevil and I have no problem fighting most other classes or at least staying on my toes but I also seem to be outmatched by D/P thieves most of the time (as rare as I encounter them).
actually Elementalists are totally fine simply because this game is all about trash ranged classes spamming projectiles or showing off their mad condi skills
that mechanic is already in game
you can clearly see it in work on the Temple of the silent storm map when you are 150 points ahead and your team gives up Tranquillity + Stillness and loses the game
You forgot some
Backstab received a special pvp damage nerf.
Dancing dagger used to be able bounce between the same targets. That was nerfed to dagger hitting only unique targets. Paired with the damage nerf the skill which once was great for taking down zerging baddies is now trash tier.
Stealth used to stack up to 30 seconds by spamming cluster bomb into smoke screen, now its capped at 15 seconds.
u already have that, its called mesmer’s portals
Most sure everyone has already posted a ton of repetitive feedback about certain broken Thief skills such as Flanking Strike (everybody’s favorite) and weird skills such as Dancing Dagger (lol damage and 50% slow for 4 initiative) so I’ll just say what I generally think about Thieves.
They offer horrible utility to the team. Seriously you make this game a team game giving completely no options for 1v1 or at least 2v2 pvp and in these conditions Thief ends up as a solo play class. Every other profession has a variety of skills to offer to their teams (hi Guardians), shield fields, combo fields, buffs, massive debuffs on enemies etc. Thief has nothing except decent damage [8/10] and moderate mobility [6/10] (people who actually play the game already know that GS Warrior has way more mobility let alone Mesmer’s portals).
But even in rare 1v1 occasions anyone who is smart enough to get some vitality/toughness can deal with Thief easily. Im not speaking of broken bunker Guardians, Engineers, Necromancers or Elementalists, even simple semi-tanky Mesmer can beat Thief by simply running around and spamming illusions while doing Blurred Frenzy sometimes to block occasional Thief’s burst. The only thing Thief can kill are dumb glass cannons who only think about getting more kills and then run on forums to complain about OP Thief. Thief always strikes first and thats why they easily kill other profession glass cannons.
Thief has the worst sustain and zero tankiness, every other class has a better heal skill than Thieves, of course Thief also gets invisibility, but seriously what serious player would be confused by 3 sec stealth now? You just keep swinging weapon or throwing AoE in the location where you saw Thief last time or behind yourself thus Thief only harms himself by relying on deceptive safety of stealth.
ANet wanted to grant Thieves good mobility and elusiveness instead of utility and tankiness but they only partly succeeded let alone that no mobility can compensate being useless in your team apart of doing damage (everyone can do that). And now ANet does weird stuff with cutting Thief damage even more while there already was no way for Thief to deal with bunkers no matter what Thief build do you use.
On top of everything else Thief has laughable crowd control, while of course it would be stupid to turn assassin class into a CC machine like in some other games, Thief’s CC right now is simply a joke. The only CC worth attention is Headshot and Venoms. While Headshot is a good interrupt for its instant cast you would hardly find yourself using a Pistol in off-hand let alone that it deals near to no damage and costs 4 initiative. Venoms… really? EVERY hostile action uses a venom stack: Heartseeker, Caltrops, Traps, Chocking Gas, even kitten Infiltrator’s Arrow that deals no damage uses up a Venom stack but doesnt give its effects. Thus if Thief has enabled poisons he cant use his 2 main mobility skills if he doesnt want to lose poison stacks.
About bunkers its a whole different story, seriously how could you make armor/hp completely outscale all the damage components in the game where the only competitive game mode consists of holding a point and not moving anywhere what clearly favors all this armor/hp stacking. Passive gameplay like this should be severely punished in conquest game mode but ANet isnt even going to move away from this. But thats unrelated to the topic.
Fixing Thief: add tankiness, add healing, add team utility, add at least 2-3 RELIABLE CC, if its necessary cut some damage and/or mobility. You’ll have to take away some assassin components from Thief because currently that option has no place in the game let alone that ANet keeps pointing at how they dislike the damage Thief deals. So it would be easier for them to remake the class than remake the game.
End of the rant.
(edited by Lexander.4579)
Im not sure if thats the case, but most likely you break steal’s stealth with auto attack because you use steal while already shooting.
Steal is instant cast and it doesnt cancel the animation of the skill you were using before Steal. Since pistol auto attack has a significant cast time its highly possible that you just use Steal during your auto attack, gain stealth, then finish your auto attack immediately losing stealth.
Its only possible to avoid that by removing auto attack and avoiding to use Steal during casting any other skill.
Possibly because you use it while being airborne.
Why airborne? Because its not the same with being stunned or knocked down, normally you cant use any skills in the air but some stun-breaking skills are usable in that state, but they dont break neither airborne state nor incoming knockdown.
You can see that yourself, try using Shake it off or Frenzy while jumping – unlike other skills you can use them before you land down.
So you should wait until you firmly land down so the “real” knockdown starts before using your stun breakers and then they will work. Probably ANet would have to add some game message or debuff which lets you know if you are airborne but right now the above explanation is the only way to deal with it.
Basically when you go full 30/30 in Thief’s Trickery trait line you only get ~10 seconds faster Steal recharge rate that is wrong because reducing 45 seconds (base Steal recharge) by 30% should lower Steal’s cooldown by 13,5 seconds.
When you take only 5/30 in Trickery it works correctly and reduces Steal’s cooldown by ~2 seconds (5% from 45 sec = 2,25 sec). The further you go in Trickery the less cooldown reduction is provided by each “5%”.
I think this is caused because each point in that trait line reduces Steal’s cooldown based on Steal’s post-calculation recharge rate instead of reducing Steal’s base recharge rate.
For example Steal’s base cooldown is 45 seconds. 1 point in Trickery reduces it by 0,45 seconds. The new Steal’s cooldown becomes 44,55 seconds and currently the next point in Trickery will reduce Steal’s cooldown by ~0,445. This goes on providing less and less benefit for Steal’s recharge the further you go in Trickery line.
I dont know if its intended but I doubt that, also those 3,5 seconds which I lose on Steal’s recharge rate can mean the difference between life and death. So please take a look at it.
it may go 7/6 because of the rune in the aquatic helm (even if you are on the ground) however runes are working correctly
Dont stand in thief’s caltrops and focus on removing conditions. To put a killing amount of bleed stacks condition thief has to spend all their initiative and it takes around 11 seconds to regenerate initiative from 0 to 15 while you can easily remove bleed stacks in water attunement.
I would assume you fought P/D thief since you mention conditions and going in stealth, its harder for D/D elementalist than backstab thiefs due to easy kite tools but still its a cake.
Hi all,
When main-handing Dagger, do you leave skill 1 on auto attack or do you manually trigger it to ensure best use of backstab?
Secondly, I see on the list of Thief skills a mainhand dagger skill (#3) called Twisting Fangs which is available when you have no offhand weapon. Why would you ever not have an offhand weapon?
Im not having problem with putting 1 on auto attack with main-hand dagger right now. Before it made sense to turn it off to ensure that you activate Assassin’s Signet before Backstab, but now… not much.
All kinds of theif’s main-hand weapons have a special 3rd skill when you are not using any off-hand but basically its much weaker than normal dual skills, left alone that you are losing weapon stats that could be in your off-hand. So using only main-hand weapon on thief isn’t making any sense, unfortunately, because possibly it could be a cool feature to use only one single-handed weapon.
Has everyone forgotten that the thief can use scorpion wire to drag you off the wall? As a mesmer, unless they’re sitting on the ledge I can only drag them into the ledge. A thief managed to pull me through the ledge into the zerg below. Not sure if it was a glitch or if they can do this constantly.
Scorpion wire requires the target to be on the ledge of the wall, it randomly becomes obstructed at plain sight and sometimes it fails to drag the target even on a terrain with no obstacles.
You forgot to mention mesmers sending their illusionary berserkers regardless of LoS to attack siege engines and multiple defenders that are unreachable for any other AoE or ability from any other class.
Mesmer’s don’t really have many other options. With a Greatsword from the ground there are only 2 attacks that can be used to actually hit something. It’s this or mind sword which has 120 aoe and can only be placed on the wall or ledge. If they’re standing on the ledge I’d be better off switching to focus and dragging them off the wall. Or we can equip a staff where the only attack that can hit on the wall is chaos storm with its long cooldown.
Plus, illusions don’t really take a lot to kill. To take down an arrow cart it takes around 8 berserkers (who take forever to attack again so they’ll be dead before take 2).
Mesmers already have a whole lot of strong and/or unique tools for attacking the walls, apart of what you and me mentioned there are also chaos storm and projectile blockers and possibly something else that I could forget.
That is in addition to insane utility that mesmers offer to their party and zerg such as portals, mass stealth and illusion of life.
And on top of everything 2-3 DPS-orientated mesmers are able to make wall defense impossible.
It is an advantage.
The only thing that can hurt you are siege and aoe rings.
You cannot be hurt by projectiles.
You forgot to mention mesmers sending their illusionary berserkers regardless of LoS to attack siege engines and multiple defenders that are unreachable for any other AoE or ability from any other class.
The game evolves and players start moving from 100% glass canon to more tanky builds, actually the majority of skilled players already did that, the only hope is that ANet will see this evolution before they give Pistol Whip’s treatment to Backstab.
