You missed the various pet skills – Bleed/Stun/Regen etc. Plus the knockdown on canine pets is very handy against many enemies.
Its RNG. I got nothing less than golds yesterday in fracs chests. RNG is gona RNG ya.
I understand efficiency extremely well. However, stating that zerkers are for those who “mastered” content is a quiet honestly a lolworthy comment, seeing as there are thousands of “fail” zerkers in the game. Its equally true there are plenty of fail rangers.
No, mastering the content does not mean “all thats left is DPS”. It simply means playing the content in a different fashion. Whether thats from changing your build or from a different class its all the same thing. If you want to obsess on zerkers and use it solely that fine go right ahead, I dont care what class you use. I play the game for fun, not as a grind for kitten waving. I dont care if you can kill a boss 3 seconds faster, speed is not the be all and end all. Though playing through in a timely fashion without incident is what we tend to strive for.
It STILL does not make rangers crap by any stretch of the imagination. Particularly with so many players in the game of all classes who quiet frankly are atrocious no matter the class or build.
Yes they could do with a buff, but even still they do perform well in a group and solo when someone is a good player.
Yes but that could equaly be from a guild event or even a guild bounty. You need to keep in mind the new content is throwing players all over the shop in order to get to it. So some are camping out in areas. Thats outwith the B camping itself. Plus it is “prime time” atm so populations are going to be on the high side.
I awlays fear for my groups well being when a gs-zerker-warrior joins us. They usually do more damage to the group than good. Never met any decent zerker warrior.
Precisely. Thats what Lolflux doesnt seem to get. TTK is not that important when the team falls over consistantly because the zerker hit the deck, someone tried to res and got 1shot by a dungeon mechanic, someone tries to res them…………. you get the point.
Lolflux; Its clear you entire argument is one based on DPS. Nowhere in this thread have I claimed that rangers have better DPS than a warrior. Does an ele have better DPS than a war? Does a Necro? Stop obsessing on numbers and start looking at the game as a team effort.
If it was only about DPS/TTK there would only be one class; Warriors. There are multiple classes for a reason. Meshing various different classes skills so that they supplement and improve one another is a basic fundamental of MMORPG’s.
Buddy Im on Gandara and have no problems getting in queesdale 99% of the time. The fact is that the area has lots of events and is the first human zone. Its not because B is 2 hours from spawn. The area is just full because its a busy zone and the server is high pop. Hell a lot of guilds use it as a meeting point for events, which will trigger overflow easily and has nothing to do with the spawn window for B.
It still doesnt make a ranger crap. Sub 9 min runs with a team having 1 war is an very quick time for a dungeon run that does not utilise 5 man zerkers. Again stating rangers are crap solely based on a comparison to a warriors DPS is nonsense.
Oh and FYI I have 4 toons; War/Rang/Ele/Guard. Its my ranger who is requested more often than not because every idiot runs around as a war/guard/ele and yet still manage to be crap in the role compared to my ranger.
(edited by Lexandro.1456)
Considering my ranger can do CoF p1 with a team using only 1 warrior in less than 9 mins I would say the “time” factor is a nonsense argument.
2 Equally skilled player plays a warrior and a ranger.
The warrior achieves X amount of dps.
The ranger achieves a fraction of X amount of dps.No matter how hard a ranger busts his kitten off trying to compare to warrior dps, they will not come close unless the warrior underperforms.
Which is completely irrelavant, as a ranger is not a warrior. Rangers are not front line combat units. Warriors will always out DPS a ranger, especially with things like the GS that hits multiple targets with each attack skill.
DPS is not and never will be a measure of how good a class is. This is why so many “glass cannons” fail miserably in teams. Far to obsessed with DPS to consider that survivability and tactical ability are equaly as important in an RPG game.
Also note that in underwater combat a ranger is superb, particularly with an armor fish pet since this pet gets regen on attack skills by default and has a stun F2 skill. Again those kicking players solely for being a ranger are fools who dont understand the class role.
Some total nonsense in this thread about rangers. Rangers are not that bad, infact I as a ranger have never BEEN kicked from a party becuase of my class. Infact I get INVITES to join parties where peple have played with me before and know that I play well as one.
Yeah… pretty sure that if rangers were as awesome as people such as yourself keep spouting, there wouldn’t be these threads talking about why a very large majority of players hate having them in their groups. Even in groups that are successful with a ranger, it likely would have been done a lot faster with a different class.
Sorry but it is what it is. Rangers need fixing.
Many rangers that I know have rerolled because they are acutely aware of how godawful they are compared to other classes. At some point the blinders have to come off and you have to just accept it for what it is and wait for the (hopefully) incoming buffs.
I didnt say they were “awesome” and infact pointed out that imo they need a damage buff. And I would agree that pet mechanics need reworking. However they are definately not as bad as people make out. Infact I will wager that the people stating they are crap are in fact just crap players as a ranger.
Compared to a zerker warrior OF COURSE a ranger will have less damage as rangers are not a faceroll class. Which is where most people fail badly. They cant faceroll content and then complain the class is garbage. Being a ranger requires co-oridination of your skills.
Like if warrior is in the thick of it, ill pop regen from my fern wolf to help him out and hit the target with vulnerability to stack with the warriors and get it up 25 stacks. Thats just one extremely basic example of how a ranger should perform in a team. It is not a front line combat unit. Its a ranged attack role intended to supplement the teams attack skills and improve effectiveness.
At the end of the day, my ranger has plenty of people who will invite me to join them because I can play rangers properly. I get in to dungeons and fractals easily, and very very rarely do I have issues. When I do have issues its normally due to another player sucking and dragging the team down, not because of the class they are, simply because that player dragging us down is crap fullstop.

As with any class its all in the build. Far to many people simply do not understand how a ranger works, and instead say that suck in general. Yes rangers could do with a damage buff, but people always forget that your pet is where the rest of your “DPS” is. A ranger who knows when to leash or switch pets for best effect will help a team massively. Similarly knowing what weapons are best for your style of ranger helps massively. In almost every team I play in, when things get tough and player die I am the last one standing and I am the one who saves the team from a bad wipe. We get protection on dodges for both us and our pet, regen when poisoned/burning etc, plenty of support spirits (that can actually come with if we want), and base regen with troll ungent that can be buffed to go party wide (dwayna runes), party wide regen from pets, etc etc.
So if you are kicking rangers just because they are rangers or think they are so bad that they are of no use, you are frankly an idiot. Stay in your little clique away from the rest of us right minded players who dont CARE what class you use as long as you can play and the rest of us will be happy.

Not in the case of a valid suspension.
There are people who are just misunderstood or who dont speak the language correctly. They can seem offensive to some.
However I agree that those who are deliberately abusive and offensive need to be dealt with. Though Im sure that Anet remove such players often, it just that we dont get huge press about it. In GW2 the report function is there to inform Anet of problem players, and all chat of all kinds is logged. So all it takes is for Anet to review said logs around the time frame of the report for that player and make a decision.
Many people thought Obsidian armor from GW1 wasn’t that attractive… But yet would still grind for it, because of the “prestige” behind having it.
As a 5+ year vet of GW1 I can say with pride that I never bought obsi armor at all, ever because it was bloody ugly. I sold my shards and ecto to those people grinding away for fugly gear and was always happy to do so.
Personaly I much prefered Kurzik faction armors and fair number of Elonian armors. Vabbi armor for instance was nice on my sin.
Thats just pedantic with semantics. In game chat if you type GS people assume you mean a greatsword not the gem store. TP is used in the game as short hand for anything in Black Lion.
I often hear people say " I can’t buy gems, its the TP down?" due to issues with the browser not connecting properly or timing out.
Which I am sure you know already and are just, as I said, being pedantic with semantics.
my apppoligies I read your post wrong it seems. How ever I recently ran a dungeon where I was kicked – why? My attack as a mesmer was not 3100 it was 2950
The only times you would see me kick someone is;
- Excessive AFK without warning (tell us first and we are normally fine to wait on you)
- Deliberately abusive to other players (self explanatory)
- Going offline and not coming back ( again self explanatory)
Other than that, I almost never kick someone. I really dont care what you use, and how you use it just as long as you can be a productive part of the team. I dont need to see your gear, nor your skillset. I just ask if you know what you are doing, and if you dont I will explain what happens in the mission/dungeon/fractal.
But if you join in and act like a kitten be abusive to players, and deliberately go out of your way to mess up the team I kick you. No gear score will ever show you a players skill or mentality.

This is a joke right? there is no logic to back this up.
Back up what? I have made no claims, Ive asked a specific point. Where does the cutoff begin? Who sets the cutoff? And for what and when? Who gets to say whats the “right” way to play or what gear is “best” for any given part of the game?
When its left to self styled “pro’s” (who are anything but), numerical based requirements are always highly inflated over and above and actual requirement that the game may impose. Since GW2 places very little requirement to any of its content, the entire premis for the need of a inspect tool is suspect at best. Rather its more like the “other games have it so this should” demands that plague game forums these days, where a minority demand a feature from a different game that is out with the current games design style or aspirations.
Market forces at work, its an ecomony for a reason.
If you put something up for sale above the vendor price, expect to get undercut.
Complaining about it is ludicrous.
I wasnt aware it was a bot at first, as the harpy fractal was #2, and since they were chattering in french I wasnt able to keep up with who said what when to whom. The first fractal was underwater (dolphins), so it completely masked the bots behaviour. As I said though I did leave directly after that fractal.
On the update part, its actually very simple. The stat type is listed in the weapons data (zerker/soldier etc). They just update its prefix to the newer stats, et voila upgrade.
You may not be aware but Anet did this very thing in GW1. Weapons had stats changed up when newer content was added that increased or changed the stat prefixes.
So what if they are wearing MF? It doesnt stop them from attacking/supporting the team. They might not be as effective, but it doesnt stop them being useful.
By wearing Magic Find, I do about 35-40% less damage than if I wore my normal Berserker’s gear. I slow the party’s overall speed down by about 15%, and this speed reduction is the price they pay for me gaining approximately 60% more loot. The lack of an Inspect feature, and the benefits of Magic Find, are what facilitate this “playstyle.”
For YOUR kit selection (zerker) you are less effective to a value in your estimation of up to 40% less damage. Well first off Thats for YOUR kit, not everyones. And only if you wear a LOT of MF gear instead of zerker. Players can mix/match stats so that MF is not as much of a reduction in damage as you claim.
What if I do only 10% less damage, or even 5%? Where does the cuttoff begin?
And that right there is why inspect is a bad thing. Teams become a game of “Arbitrary numbers based on anecdotal evidence, backed up by faulty logic” dancing.
No amount of gold is too much to pay, WHEN YOU GET TO LOOK LIKE RYTLOCK!!! OMG
Lol, ok I can’t dispute that :p
Sorry browser failure, please ignore post
And if you really think A-Net are going to offer free upgrades to legendaries when they release ascended weapons, I think you will be disappointed. For a start it wouldn’t be fair, you only have to look at the current ascended gear and the grind it requires to get it to realise that people will have to grind 50 laurels or some other nonsense. Why should people with legendaries get that for free?
Im afraid its you that is disapointed. Yes Anet already stated legendaries will rise in stats to the highest available tier, they will always be the “top tier” in statistics. Thats why they are “legendary”. It is why ascended items are priced lower and easier to aquire than a legendary, because it is stats will never change.
Ascended gear is not that much of a grind. I mean I already have some and Ive only played since the F&F patch late Jan.
I would just like to point out that those saying “make it optional” are missing a flaw in that argument. That is that it will quickly become mandatory to get in to teams for certain content. By that I mean anyone with “inspect” off would be kicked/ignored/blacklisted, or told to put it on or get kicked/ignored/blacklisted.
Personally Im more convinced by the “no” argument, having seen gear based selection in action and by the points raised here. This is a game, it is not a job, it is made for fun. There is very very little content in this game that even has a gear restriction, and even that (fractals) doesnt kick in till 10+.
Now if you are playing fractals 10+, and players dont know wtf to do that has nothing to do with the gear thats just a bad player. But if players know what they are doing, then whats the issue with what they are wearing? So what if they are wearing MF? It doesnt stop them from attacking/supporting the team. They might not be as effective, but it doesnt stop them being useful.
So really all inspect would do is create a bias towards an arbitrary number where there isnt a bias in the game by design.
Effectively reducing the cost overall
Why are you pushing so hard for the price to go down. Seriously.
Would you be okay with it being just skins, no stats, but still keep the price at 119g?
The games economy can suffer badly when people percieve prices to be exorbitant for items in comparison to its percieved value. This is an issue for GW2 and its gem store as it allows direct purchase for real world cash.
Its perception; A player see’s an item in the game and likes them. They then see the costs relative to other comparible pieces with same stats. They quickly notice the price discrepancy for exo vs rare and can then percieve that if one thing is priced “funny”, there must be others. They are then less likely to buy gems from the store as the perception is that prices across the board may not be correct.
Its the cost – value – worth decision that people make for any purchase.
Though if both items are of exotic quality with similar stats, but one is more expensive and restricted to one particular race they then can see its because of its rarity that the cost – value -worth is altered making it more expensive.
Just so people reading get this – I dont want them, I can afford them if I did want them but I still would not buy them as I dont percieve them to be “worth” the “cost” because I dont “value” it.
The gem store in game is accessed via the TP. I assumed people would understand that with the TP shorthand.
Effectively it should be the same manner as “guild” armor skins. That then gives us players the “skin” for sale solo. Effectively reducing the cost overall, as it would translate to gems.
Legendary Weapons are priced around 1500g-2000g and they’re just a cosmetic skin as well.
No they are not “just cosmetic”. They will always be top tier statted, no matter what other gear is released. Anet stated catagorically that when gear is released that has better stats than a current legendary, said legendary will be bumped up in stats.
Thats value for its high cost, in that it will never be superseded, it is the pinnacle of gear stats.
Why does it need to? Please answer that.
Economics. An item that is percieved to be “expensive” only maintains its value when said expensive is in comparison to its worth. In a game based on gear stats, an item on the higher end of the price scale should reflect that in stats, or it wont sell as it should.
Less gold sinks is a bad thing and ruins game economies.
Again – for the skin alone Anet is better served selling it on TP.
(edited by Lexandro.1456)
I wont be buying them, can you not understand the concept of pointing out flaws in a system?
Again – The stats should reflect its costs, this is SOP in a game economy based on gear. If its sold as a “skin only”, that can be done via the TP. Its not however, its sold as a armor set, and as such at “rare” quality its over-priced for the skin alone.
Value – Cost – Worth ; Concepts its seems some people have real trouble grasping.
No you might not buy items for stats and say that it doesnt matter. Thats not what I do nor many other players. In point of fact I do NOT want any of the cultural t3 armors as they are all extremely fugly.
My point is that if they want to sell it as a “skin” they can do so via the TP with a costume set. Its not however, its ARMOR of RARE quality. The stats for a high cost item should reflect its costs.
How about you stop saying that stats dont matter. If that was the case, people would not grind for gear. Oh but wait they do, because stats matter to them.
Total logic fail on your part AGAIN.
Ps its not “inflation” its “deflation” when prices go down. LMAO.
This thread is not about me wanting them, its about getting the developers to realise Cultural armors are now pointlessly expensive in comparison to the rest of the items in the game.
Skill>gear min/maxing
Really its true. The only thing inspection does is allow all the anal kitten to create an artificial barrier on people joining teams. A bad player is a bad player, doesnt matter if he or she is in Exo’s carrying a legendary weapon if they suck at playing. Similarly a good player in rares can easily keep up with an exo team if they are smart enough and play well.
In short; Inspect gear is a bad idea, full stop. Thats why the devs didnt put it in.
Listen dude. There is no barrier for you to do dungeon. The only barrier is you can’t join those group which require a gear check.
You said other people shouldn’t discriminate against you because you have bad gear or no ar. Why are you discriminating other people similar as you? Form your own group. And dont’ insist you should be allowed to join those gear checked group.
And besides you should work for your own stuff, not go in those elite group and expect to get carry.
Excuse me but what the hell are your talking about? Who said I have bad gear? Really you need to learn to read the information properly.
I said I as a player would RATHER have a good player in sub powered gear than a bad player in max gear in my team. Why? Because skill trumps stats every single time. A “gear check” is a moronic way to make a team. The ONLY gear requirement this game has is in fractals above 10 needing some AR. Since anyone can get AR resistance from laurels/fractal relics, that is not a problem.
What is a problem is fools barring other players based on statistics alone. This is why the devs did not implement an inspection tool in the first place.
And FYI I have 80s fully decked out in exos and with an AR specced item (Asc. amu.).
(edited by Lexandro.1456)
All of those issues can arise from a bad network connection to the games servers. Normally caused by either AV packages scanning the game data and exe and messing with it or from a firewall/router blocking data and/or messing with the data coming in and going out.
I suggest you try playing the game under a “clean boot” procedure (google for guide) and testing the game again. That will show if its a program causing the problem. Also I would strongly suggest you troubleshoot your connection and ensure that GW2 is allowed access to the web properly and that your router/modem is configured correctly.
The rare part doesn’t really matter, you can use fine mutation stones to change them to exotic, and if you’re spending that much gold on the armour,I doubt the 4g for the gems will be too much of a hassle for you.
Perhaps you failed to read the part where I said getting the money is not an issue. Its justifying the cost of the armor. Legendary cost a packet because they are time consuming to make and will always be top tier gear, exotics cost a bit because they are top statted atm. Cultural armors are illogically expensive for a rare item. It is precisely because they are “rare” that makes them illogical to buy.
Skill>gear min/maxing

A bad player is a bad player, doesnt matter if he or she is in Exo’s carrying a legendary weapon if they suck at playing. In short; Inspect gear is a bad idea, full stop. Thats why the devs didnt put it in.
This is known as “chat lag”. It happens when there are issues with the account server, since all messages are tied to your screen ID and account. Or when you have an excessively laggy connection There isnt much you can do about it really, other than troubleshoot your internet connection to ensure its working properly.
But these armors are needlessly expensive for its stats.
That’s the point—no-one is buying cultural armour/weapons for the stats; they’re buying them for the unique look that cannot be found anywhere else.
They are expensive because they are luxury items i.e. items you only look to buy once you already have a full set of level 80 exotic/ascended gear and just want to customise your character to look perfect as well.
Sports/luxury cars are expensive for the exact same reason; you sure as hell do not need something that expensive to drive to work 5 days a week.
Yes but you dont buy a Ferarri new with a Fiat engine in it. You pay for the quality, expertise AND the technology.
Same logic applies here; I buy items because they look good AND they improve my characters ability. For that money I expect them to be at least on par with dungeon gear for stats.
Logic failure by the devs;
Dungeon gear = easier to get, better stats, and some really nice skins.
Cultural gear = expensive costs, crapper stats, some decent skins to chose.
As I said I could understand the price if they were exotics, though I would still think them a little pricey. But at “rare” level, they are over-priced just for a skin.
If the devs up them to exotics, the price makes a bit of sense. But imo currently its nonsensical. Making the money to buy them isnt a problem. I simply cannot justify in my mind any reason for purchasing them currently.
They are vanity pieces, and people use transmute stones.
Indeed you can use fine mutey stones on them. But even so, the cost of the piece is far to high for the item itself.
I mean I “get” that higher scaled items cost more, thats understandable logic. But these armors are needlessly expensive for its stats.
As the title suggests, Im just wondering what the point of the exorbitant cost of cultural armors is?
I mean the skins are nice enough, but they are only “rare” quality. Im not about to spend 50+ gold to get a set of armor thats underpowered compared to karma exo gear or TP stuff. Im serious, what is the point of the high cost? Skin alone? If so make it Exotic, and worth the money. Right now, its completely pointless to spend the gold on them since the gear is rare only especially when I can get exotic armor for 40k or so karma a piece ,or spend a one or two gold in TP or even just use exo dungeon gear.
T3 Cultural armors – waste of time and money.
I dont do dragon events, mainly because its pointless for me. The amount of people in a zone makes it a slideshow at 1 frame per second. So the whole argument is moot to me. Im just suggesting a rather obvious solution to the ops point. To me guesting is not a problem, it just means someone else gets “my seat” at the event.
Obvious solution is to make dragon timers span across all servers at the same time. If Dragon X is due to spawn at 3pm, make it spawn on ALL servers at 3pm. Problem solved.
Obvious solution would be to make the chests per account instead of per character.
Not really, doesnt stop people from other servers coming across to play for events. If dragons spawn at the same time serverwide, there IS no reason to leave your own server for a dragon event unless you want to do it with friends on another server (which is the intent of guesting).
Obvious solution is to make dragon timers span across all servers at the same time. If Dragon X is due to spawn at 3pm, make it spawn on ALL servers at 3pm. Problem solved.
Whats the point of selling these fun items if you can’t find novel ways to use them?
Novel? Using them to further exploits and glitches is not “novel”. But I agree with the first point you made. What is the point of selling these? None, its simply a gold sink. This one though needs to be looked at again, as its allowing for exploitation of the game.
yes you should not be able to have a legendary Lexandro, legendary is there to be special ! there is nothing special about them if anyone has them.
Its not special in itself its just a couple of pixels. Really I have to wonder at some folks. This is an MMO people, there are millions of players. Your so called “special” item is in the hands of hundreds of thousands of players. It is not “unique”, its just a fancy skin.
Who are you to say that a player is not allowed to have a particular item? What gives you the right to say that player X is not “worthy” of owning it?
In short; Its for sale in TP, its going to stay that way. Get over it.
How on earth would the bot know to use the portal?
It didnt thats the point, the french people had to leap all over the level to get portals to open up on the off chance it would “use” it. Thats what took all the time. And as I said it got stuck on the lower zone below the boss.
so you should be able to get a reward that you havent worked for ? Sounds more like casuals crying, that they want the best items but not work for it…
Its a weapon, in a computer game. It is not a pulitzer, nor a nobel prize. It is not a “reward” its just an animated skin. Selling unique skins was the sole reason for sales in GW1, there are zero point otherwise as every lvl 20 weapon be it blue/gold or green had the same stat combinations. This trend has continued to GW2, where once you have the stats the only thing to consider is your looks in the game.
Again the only people here complaining are elitists who dont want anyone else with the same stuff as them.

Motherboard settings and/or insufficent PSU. Your system is going on to “throttling” mode. Reset the system to stock and DONT mess around with OC settings at this time. That will only make matters worse.
Check that your PSU has the wattage required for your system. The also update the motherboards BIOS if there is one, and set it to stock/automatic setup for your CPU.
If you could buy one directly from the gem store I would see a problem.
As it is, some player some where went through the work to create said Legendary.
Exactly. Its not a store purchase, its buying from another player who went out and made one. They deserve to be compensated for the effort. The poeple complaining are infact elitists who dont want anyone with the same gear as them. Its frankly none of your buisness how anyone else gets a legendary item.
If YOU dont want to pay for one, thats fine. Just go craft one.
Problem solved.
It’s just hard to believe that hundreds of people have suddenly defect hardware, problems with AV or unstable systems.
It has to be a fault on Anet’s side. I’d be happy if they prove me wrong and give us some possible solutions.
Not really, especially when you consider that the vast majority of players are less than savvy on the basics of PC design and maintanance. I am a long time PC gamer, and have hundreds of PC titles. I have seen quiet litteraly hundreds of thousands of people who dont know how to defrag let alone set up a PC properly and complain its a game fault. Ive even seen people stupid enough to torrent a game and come to the companies site saying its broken and wanting support for a pirated version.
As I said, there are faults with the code but the OPS log indicates its his system and the data on it that are at fault. And as I said with my rig that BARELY scrapes by on minimum requirements it never crashes, and I play for several hours on end at a time.
And yes, lots and lots of people can suddenly have an issue out of the blue. Windows updates, system changes, hell even a bad shutdown can mess with a PCs software.
