A couple of bugs have become apparent since I started playing my guard again;
- “Hold the Line” has no audio for a female Norn. I dont know if any other males or other races are affeced or not. But using said skill results in either total silence or once in a blue moon, a random quote with a female norn.
- Guardian sword skill #3 “Zealot’s Defense” – The skill missfires and mis-aligns the “barrier” on many occasions. Currently my character will face one direction and the barrier will be in another completely different direction away from my target, or I will use the skill and my character will change direction, AND the barrier will also be in the wrong direction.
I was a long long time player of GW1. I loved the game but it was not all roses and sunshine with its skill system either. The “power creep” in GW1 was “new” skills. For those that didnt biuy in to the newest release, they were consistantly “left behind” by the increased skills available from newer content.
Hell the old Imbagon paragon had half (if not more) of its skills from EotN, and if you didnt HAVE the imbagon build you could forget ever getting in a team for group content. This was on top of skill duplication, and frankly too many skills overall.
GW2 by comparison has too few skills, utility ones that is. I feel like I am constantly forced to cookie cutter. There is zero build “originality” or any real experimentation currently. Everythings been done already or tried by someone previously. Anet havent found the “sweet spot” in the number of skills nor the implementation of the ones we have. To many of the current skills are second rate versions of old skills from GW1 with idiotic cooldown times attached.
For there to be real build diversity and creativity we need more skills, but we also need better implemented skills. If Anet just tack on another load of pointless skills with extreme cooldowns it wont make a blind bit of difference to the game. Its just more of the same.
Dont forget; No magi ascended rings, amulets or trinkets either. Oh and are there even any Assassins gear either? Funny that, new prefix and zero effort to implement it for BiS gear.
Unfortuantely, yes it is a problem with your system. If your system shuts down without warning, your have a serious fault outwith the game. It is merely a coincidence that this happens with GW2. Because GW2 “stresses” a system its played on, any inherant faults (even minor ones) will become apparent.
If the system is recovering and giving you a “power surge” warning its likely that your power supply unit is starting to fail. I would STRONGLY suggest that you test the PSU with a DMM tester kit. If you are not comfortable with that or unsure on how to do so then take the system to a qualified outlet for PC repairs and have them check the system for you.
There are other causes for a surge issue, but they are all hardware related. So my advice stands. Have the system tested. Or it could well go “pop” and become inoperable.
(edited by Lexandro.1456)
Do you have AMD “Cool n Quiet” enabled in the BIOS? If so disable this, as it can lower CPU performance when the CPU is loaded, in an attempt to reduce temps.
my advice get a new system
I run an i7/GTX780. I can play in the zerg literally maxed out. I have never ever once gotten a DC at the start of a large event.
This isn’t a game problem this is a im too lazy cheap or broke to upgrade my system.
Gaming is a relatively cheap hobby compared to other hobby’s save up those pennies for a new GPU.
That would be true in most cases but not for GW2. I can run around at 50 fps in Frostgorge Sound on my own bashing stuff with little issue. Hell I can be in a zerg of 30+ people and still be well above 30 fps.
As soon as multiple people start attacking the FPS tanks massively. Primarily because the game is CPU bound and making very very little use of my GPU. But also because of the “stacking bandwidth” problem with conditions, and the excessive number of effects that are fired off at one time.
The games engine and the server cluster have issues, that are outwith peoples hardware. We should not need to spend money on a new high spec system JUST to play gw2, when other titles work much better on the same system.
And if it is really the case that you need an i7 or better to play gw2 at a stable framerate then Anet are guilty of false advertising with its “system requirements” for GW2.
Right click the games shortcut and chose “properties”. In the “target” window add
-repair
save and close. Now activate the shortcut and it will run a repair command on the game files.
Yes I did I. I explained the two most common occurances of a system shutdown. The fact is a game will not cause a system to power off. No matter what other games you try or software, if for any reason a system powers off it has a fault.
Even when hardware is not warm to the touch the thermal diode inside can be overheated or damaged causing a shutdown. Similarly if a sub-standard PSU is used, and the system draws more amps than it can supply it will also shutdown.
And 62c while gaming is on the high side for a CPU. A graphics card can take that heat no problem, but a CPU should in general never go above 55c at load.
BSOD’s by the very definition is a fault in the system itself and not with the game. Since the 4670 is an old low spec graphics card and is no longer supported by new driver updates you would need to download the most recent AMD beta legacy driver and replace your current AMD graphics driver package.
Are you getting a blue screen? Or just powers off? If so, what does your Windows Event Viewer show?
No blue screen, just power off. Says its that the system stopped working or the power went out. Kernel-Power event-id 41.
I doubt that the power went out since it only happens with this game.
Sounds like thermal over heat protection. When temps in side the system reach a critical level it will automatically shut down to prevent damage to components.
GW2 is known to be extremely CPU intensive and if the CPU is overheating the system will shut down with the very same message in event viewer as you posted.
It could also be the PSU that is going in to thermal protection mode. As the CPU is taxed it draws more load from the PSU. If the PSU is over-taxed and reaches a critical temp it will simply shutdown the system. Again this shows in event viewer with the same message as you posted.
PS; There are no apps to test your PSU temperature, you would have to physically check it yourself.

To be fair the amount of time waiting around on the NPC getting past the Champ, and rezzing her nearly the same as just killing it Though not sure on the animation for this myself.
]The human eye can only process 12 frames a second. 24fps is smooth and a standard in TV/movies. 120fps in a game is just an overheated system hehe
This is entirely false and the same false information that is passed on over and over. The human eye does not see in frames. If it did you would not be able to discern slow movement in the real world. The human eye registers light particles striking the back of the eye. There are no “frames” involved.
24 FPS+ results in fluid motion of individual picture frames. The human eye can discern frame rates in excess of 100 frames a second quiet easily.
It’s called “screw you guys, you can res after the fight”. I PUG’d COE a few days ago with some random guild group and I completely ignored their bearbow ranger who kept downing because they were useless and we might as well have 4-manned. I don’t think he even used frost spirit, he used storm and sun instead.
Again in COE with PUGs, they were all faceplanting and then I went to solo the rest of second alpha’s HP when my mouse and keyboard spazzed and I missed a dodge.
Seriously, don’t rely on PUGs at all.
Had this exact experience myself yesterday. Entire team faceplanted on Alpha and I had to solo him. And on the husk/bomb golem section again they all faceplanted from trying to faceroll the boss. I again had to solo the Husk. The alpha fight right after 3 died leaving my guard and an ele to finish him off. And this was with them stacked for easy dodge rolls.
I HATE crafting and I HATE gathering. These are chores; not intense game play.
That IS gameplay. If you’re looking for one-dimensional twitch, then MMORPGs aren’t for you.
Sorry bud; there’s nothing engaging nor interesting about chopping trees, whacking rocks and clicking on a wooden bench to make a glowing stick.
Seriously, whats next? Crafting a fishing rod and fishing for hours to catch ascended fish?
This game is an RPG. That is “Role Playing Game”. RPG’s of all kinds for decades have had resource gathering in some form or another. It is part and parcel of playing an RPG. I think you have chosen the wrong genre of game to play.
Mithril is a terrible “investment”, the market is flooded with the stuff. Even with the amount required for various crafting recipes the sheer amount of it is still 10x what is actually demanded. This is particularly true with the new “luck” MF boosters. People are salvaging everything and getting boatloads of the stuff.
Ive had bars and ores of mithril maxed in my bank slot for weeks. In short its over abundant and a waste to invest in it.
Numbering them would be a start, at least then you could tell others which overflow you are in.
why is my data getting corrupted every flipping time i play the game for five minutes?
There are numerous things that can cause data corruption. The most common is caused by over-agressive anti-virus software that interferes with the game files. Then there is the possibility of bad sectors on the HDD or memory that is defective or unstable overclocking.
most of the EU population is german.
Do you have any evidence to support this?
Well, it wont be the majority of all EU population (but it will be close, i assume) but german is the most common spoken native language from all players on EU servers.
Sorry but this is nonsense. English the most spoken language in the EU, its the “international buisness” language. Its taught all over Europe as a second language. Spanish and French players speak some english, many German players speak English and the Nordic counrties generally speak excellent English.
So no German is definately not the most common language. Its not even close.
Just because it’s the most common language in the region does not mean that it is the most common language on those servers. Pretty sure he is saying that a disproportionate number of germans play the game.
And yet he is still wrong because
- There are nearly double the number of English servers to german servers in the game
- The English servers in the majority are high population
- German speakers are outnumbered massively by French/Spanish/English speakers combined,
- And thats not even mentioning Nordic countries, Baltic countries, and mediteranian countries that all have some grasp of English who also play GW2.
He is wrong in his assumption. It is based on anecdotal evidence, which is proven false with actual RL information.
Happened to me a couple of times. Simple solution is to change weapon in the hero panel using the switch button (the arrows between weapons). This will clear the problem without needing to resort to weapon dropping.
I would suggest your run a repair function on the GW2 launcher. Its entirely possible you have a defecting file causing a lockup/freeze.
Im no expert with GW2 error logs but it looks like you have a memory access violation issue. This in my experience tends to happen when a program in the background intereferes with normal operation of the game. I would suggest checking your AV package and disable any non-essential background programs or tasks.

I dont know what it is recently but tbh most of the people sporting the dungeon master title have been atrocious. I think half of them have been carried through every single dungeon, because there is no way in hell otherwise they could have got the title.
@OP; I feel your pain. I main a ranger and I litteraly cringe every time I see a bear user. I explained to one bowbear player last night why the bear was a bad choice in general and asked him to take a ranged pet. Wouldnt you know it he upped and left saying I didnt know rangers because Ive never used one and I was being an elitist jerk. I was playing as a guard at the time and was extremely respectful, didnt use any offensive remarks and was generally very polite. Oh and said that I used rangers at least 3 times.
Some people are just plain ignorant and will remain so no matter what you say.
Here’s a novel idea, how ’bout players like you actually run people through the dungeon and teach them, instead of scaring them off with kitten like this. Then when you want to run you will actually have people to run it with.
Most players I know still haven’t even run all the dungeons after a year of solid play, largely because of players like you.
You’re like the industries that demand nothing but experienced professionals for years and years then can’t figure out why there are no more experienced professionals once that generation retires. People need experience, to become, experienced.
Why don’t you do that then. Lets spend 3-4 hours teaching 4 people their class and the dungeon mechanics.
While you are at it, give them gold for gear and help them level to 80. We need to help eachother yes?
You have failed to counter his valid point. No one taught you jack, you just went in all pro and kitten. Right? Idiots.
People taught me some stuff, but I did not join speedruns the first time I did X dungeon.
If party leader says he want XP people he has the right to.
Except in GW2 there is no party leader.
Ive had crapload of runs with people who dont understand their class nor ANY basic mechanics and who ignore genuine advice. Its extremely frustrating when onlly 1 run is “smooth” and 9 others are a total washout or take way longer than they should because members will not use mechanics that are required.
However its not the LFG at fault, the tool is perfectly fine as is. Its simply the bad and rude players that ruin it. And no I dont mean new people. I play with anyone, and if they say “I dont know this that well” its water off a ducks back to me and Ill help them out.
Bad players are those who ignore basic mechanics, run around messing up “puzzle” sections over and over again, and generaly make every encounter extremely messy. All the while ignoring players chat, not saying a word, and then have the audacity to then say its someone else at fault or try to use “lag” as an excuse for sheer stupidity.
TL:DR – Tool is fine; Its the players thats the issue.
I have linked my Gw1 and GW2 accounts, and did so months back. A guild member recently informed me that I should have access to “points” in HoM from just linking my accounts. However I was under the impression I was required to own EotN for GW1 in order to access HoM rewards.
Could Anet (or Gaile) clarify this and verify my account status? The site here states its linked properly and I have access to HoM in GW2 itself. However as I said there is nothing there for me and the historian gives a generic speach.
Thank you.
Kudos to those who took down Teq, its a “monster” effort (ho ho!).
After several tries at Teq with the new mechanics, it seems to me that the real issue with winning this is the adds. If there were no adds we the general playerbase could kill Teq in the time limit with some low level co-ordination.
Currently from what I have seen the cannons on either side are swamped at times by champions. In one battle I saw 3 of them spawn on the south turrets. Now champs in themselves are kinda tough when they scale up. But the thing here was that the champs were Krait. The pulls and poisons ON TOP of Teq throwing his AoE poison at the turrets meant that the defenders at the turrets went down extremely quickly leaving the turrets exposed. At one point a few rather dim people complained players were “champ farming” instead of “helping and defending”, when they clearly didnt realise the champs were going FOR the turrets and players were defending them. These champs dont drop loot, people are not farming them they are keeping them occupied away from turrets and trying to kill them so other people can stay alive.
So imo the key to victory lays with getting rid of adds ASAP around turrets and keeping it that way. It gives the turret users room to breath and work the skills as required.

Did you happen to tick or untick any shortcut commands or properties? I happen to know that several games change the save location, screenshots folder and/or game config files when you use compatability mode on Vista, Win7 and Win8.
The game is too alt unfriendly, I would like to be able to swap between different classes w/o being punished for having no fractal levels on an alt.
Wouldn’t this promote activate strategies, where a lack of class roles can be filled, more mesmars/thieves/guardians/etc where needed?
Fotm levels should be equal to all toons on an account, each can play different roles… This will great incentive for keeping the game fresh. It gets boring do the same fractal levels over/over/over again with the ONE class.
Terrible idea. You know ANET is most likely going to make the daily chest account wide as well if they did that. That will totally nerf anyone who runs fractals with multiple characters. It will be like the exp dungeon token nerf all over again.
Precisely why I am also against this idea. The op hasnt even bothered to consider that Anet changing fractal level to account bound would absolutely mean one chest per account. Also calling it “alt unfriendly” is completely opposite of the truth. Its alt friendly for the very reason of one chest per character rather then per account. It rewards those who chose to play with an alternate character, it does not punish them.
It also strikes me as rather lazy to demand a change to account bound levels because someone cant be bothered to redo the content on an alt.
The major problem the EU has is the language barrier. There are a lot of non-english speakers on EU servers and attempting to co-ordinated when people dont even understand basics like the language your typing in or speaking defeats the purpose.
The problem is excaserbated by the fact that people whos second or third language is english/german/french play on english/german/french speaking servers. Meaning we cant even gaurantee that our home servers have people who cant talk to one another and communicate properly.
Its going to take one of the big guilds to knuckle down and essentially force out players from the server who dont speak the same language well enough, AND those who are AFK etc before its done this side of the pond.
Do you remember the Karka Queen? I can’t remember when she died last time on our server. I think nobody goes there anymore. She was the first big boss with a time constraint and what happened? People realised that she’s not worth the effort and that the chance for failure is much too high to risk wasting a lot of time. The same is about to happen with Tequatl. Open world bosses with time constraints do not work. I wonder how many more bosses Anet needs to ruin, until they notice that.
The reward is well worth it now. Infact Ive been in a group thats killed Queen karka three times now on Gandara since the SAB patch and never ever even considered it prior to that.
Truth be told a lot of people want to do karka these days, or at least as far as Ive seen they have.
So because you cant roflpwns the content on day1 you think people are going to up and quit? Nay, infact the challenge is going to bring people back once its proven to be done. Hell its going to have bragging rights for weeks, just being able to say “I took part and we killed teq”. Thats worth more to some people than 10 legendaries or any number of minis.
Wait, how exactly do mini’s which do absolutely nothing other than run around your feet have any bearing on the actual game?
The game is B2P, you can get EVERY single bit of content in the game for in game gold. Yes its true you can. There is NOTHING in the gem store that actively forces you to purchase it to progress content. There is nothing in the gem store you cannot get by simply playing the game.
How is this in anyway related to a F2P model which actively requires you to purchase content to progress your class, or purchase access to BiS gear, or require you to purchase accesss to level up beyond an arbitrary level, or that requires you to purchase different “races” just to change character type?
In short it doesnt have any relation whatsoever to F2P.
Hamidon Raids in City of Heroes required a significant amount of players and a similar level of coordination. When they revamped Hami Raids to be more difficult and engaging, it took some time for the players to puzzle out how to take him down. The players pulled together, worked together, kept at it, learned the new mechanics and nuances. And once they figured it out, they were able to take Hami down consistently and reliably.
The GW2 playerbase still needs a chance to puzzle Teq 2.0 out. Don’t let less than a day of playing dictate whether or not the new Teq is impossible.
What you’re talking about is a raid. Were people enter with an organized group. Not a PVE mob where there’s lots of randoms upscaling it.
Not really. I did Hami on CoH with pugs and a couple of people telling them the phases and what to do. The level of co-ordination is similar, and can easily be done with randoms if they know what to do and when. The difference here is that no-one is entirely sure what to do yet.
JQ just got him to 60%. We might have been able to get to 50% but the whole server DC’d as he spawned. We lost 2 commanders and lost about 30 seconds just loading people back in.
The very same just happened to me on Gandara. Total disconnect and launcher refused to connect to servers for a full 5 mins the instant Teq spawned in Gandara. Im now stuck in overflow again, and I had only got in Gandara for the first time tonight not 10 mins before.
You’re nitpicking and arguing semantics. The point remains that rezzing your dead behind is wasteful and risky, and nobody should do it. Walk the kitten back.
Or better yet, stop dying.
As I said already Im not the one dying and demading a rez. Infact I am often the one pinging the two nearest WP for people to rez at.
And Im sorry you feel I am arguing semantics or nitpicking but to me there is a clear destinction between the two, which everyone ignored.
- Scarlet was a mass zerg event, with zero actual mechanics involved.
Yes, that’s why besides the first day barely any server has gotten to the actual Scarlet fight?
Eh? That was because of pirate farms, you could complete the event and get five gear bags, or you could get thirty five by failing it andjust spending twenty minute farming pirate champs.
No it wasnt. People keep bandying about this myth that farmers made the event fail. The event was easily farmable AND winnable if people bothered to play the content. Those that didnt want to farm, went for Minions those that did went after aeithers and molten shaman. In between both groups would attack the minion groups.
Instead what actually happened was that people would turn up late at night, complain about people “farming”, then leave. In prime time the event was almost always finished to a victory in the first week. The second week was different primarily because the majority of people no longer cared about “winning” becuase they had done so multiple times already.
5 people not attacking in 15 seconds is…………15 seconds. Not 1m 15sec. You dont multiply the time by the number of people.
Doesnt even matter really anyhoo because teq will down everyone ressing in 5 seconds flat.
If you’re trying to determine how much DPS you’re losing, yes you do. All 5 players are spending their 15 seconds not attacking. That is a total of 1 minute 15 seconds of DPS lost.
15 seconds is 15 seconds. You do not multiply time by participants. Its a total of 15 seconds of DPS lost per person, it is not 1m 15 of lost DPS. Its FIFTEEN SECONDS, precisely because that is the time lost. DPS is relative, it is totally different between players.
You cannot make 15 seconds lost per person become 1min+ because it is physically impossible.
I don’t know how to tell you this but… you’re dead wrong.
let’s say each player does 1000 dps
you can have 1 player spend 60s running back, that means you lose 60*1000 = 60000 damage
-or-
you can have 5 players spend 15s rezzing, that means you lose 15*1000 damage per player, times 5 players = 75000 damage
nothing is happening to the time something is happening to the amount of time the players are contributing effectively.
I don’t know how to explain it to you any simpler than this.
That is exactly what I was referring to. The damage is what is multiplied not the actual time. The time is constant and unchanging. It is 15 seconds, no more no less. Which is what I said specifically there is a destinction between the two.
Far to many people no longer use the term DPS correctly anymore. Infact one chap earlier claimed he did 50k DPS. Not spike damage, or burst, but 50k DPS.
- Scarlet was a mass zerg event, with zero actual mechanics involved.
Yes, that’s why besides the first day barely any server has gotten to the actual Scarlet fight?
What? Gandara has scarlet wipped the second time it ran on patch day. I dont know what server you were on or timezone but your statement is in no way accurate.

It’s kitten first day and you say it’s next to impossible.
Scarlet was beaten on the first day with concentration. Pretty sure that people managed to get to Liandri on the first day. Right now is the time that we have the most people doing it. We should be able to succeed.
Thats because ;
- Liadri was more about fighting the camera and learning the encounter
- Scarlet was a mass zerg event, with zero actual mechanics involved.
Teq atm has mechanics that require teamwork and skill. Both of which are in short supply imo. With practice it will be done, in time the majority will win the event.
5 people can rez you from fully dead in 15 seconds. it takes 1 minute to walk back. Until people learn to rez EVERYONE we probably won’t win the fight.
5 people not attacking in 15 seconds is 75 seconds.
1 person running back is 60 seconds.?

Also all those poeple laying around dead are scaling the event up and not doing anything to help. So yes, running back from the WP is the only viable option.
Yeah, this thing needs a nerf. I like difficult content, because I’m a really hardcore player, but after organizing about 200 people by dividing a certain amount for each turret/mega-laser, and then only getting him to about 80%, I feel depressed.
I even had 3 commanders on each turret, and 1 commander fighting Teq directly so people would know where to gather. There were still those genius’s that left the turrets to go and help fight Teq who killed them the moment they stepped into his poison rings after I repeatedly told them, “Don’t go there, you’ll die by the poison rings”. I laughed a lot during that fight.
All in all though, I still felt like we were organized and doing well until Teq wiped everyone out in one swipe and then flew away.
This fight needs to be difficult, not impossible. I even saw some Anet players that were standing and helping us fight. I could almost visibly see them shaking their heads when we only got him to 80%.
People on the turrets should be removing the poison, thats the whole point of #3 skill.
And Anet was there helping? Really?
Na, dont buy it.
Yak’s Bend cot to the 75% cannon phase this run.
It’s also worth noting there was no overflow on Yak’s bend.
People are already not going to the event.
Yet here I am, still in the same Splintered Coast overflow 4+ hours after the patch, trying to get back on Gandara. Methinks its simply your server pop and the time of day.
Not everyone is as easily discouraged as you. Go run CoF. You just made your 40 silver back plus some.
Because we all have time for everything in one day, do we?
Also I hope that not everyone is as easily discouraged. Else it will be yet another forgotten event.
CoF p1 takes less time than Tequatl. Infact its the shortest dungeon in the game. Its entirely possble to do CoF p1 twice in the same time as one teq encouter. Time constraint complaint rendered null and void.
There are many things to do on this fight. You can use your shattering build to protect the people that are using the turrets, for example.
and not get enough damage tagged on tequatl to get credit.
No need to “tag” for credit. I didnt hit him once and still got a daily chest first time out. The rewards are tied in to the event status not how much you hit him.
What chest? Did I miss a chest?
The “daily” reward chest, the one that pops up on the right hand side above the minimap. I got mines from defending turrets, nothing more.
Rewards for the event are tied to the status of the event. As long as you participate in any part of the event you will be credited for a reward.
PvE is for everyone. But success isn’t.
After a while, it’ll only be natural that those that aren’t up for it will naturally shy away from this event.
Then organized groups will start to work it. “Noobs” will slowly start coming back into it, get knowledgeable, and then be able to spread it.
It’s a natural process. And there’s no reason why it shouldn’t take some time.
And I have no doubt that if properly equipped, the event would be level appropriate (AC revamp anyone?).
Indeed I fully agree.
The vast majority of PVE players have used a guide at some point for something in the game, or have been guided by more knowledgable players. There are not guides atm, so naturally the vast majority do not know what they are doing. Until the skilled players take him down and post instructions on how the did so, it wont be completed any time soon.

Just got him down to under 80% on an overflow with near zero co-ordination. People were simply zerging and had to be reminded to kill fingers off. Bonewall came up twice in the fight.
If thats the level of difficulty for un-skilled and no co-ordination then imo its doable with proper team work.
