Known issue with TP.
Re-log.
Nipper is a lesser known racial slur for Japanese people.
Since when? Im sorry but thats completely nonsense.
“Nipper” is english slang (now in the dictionary) for a child. It is also the name of the dog used in the painting “his masters voice”. I have never EVER once heard it used as a curse, nor have I ever heard of anyone from Japan every complaining that it is used as such. Nor does google support your view as every search for “Nipper” provides ZERO references to racist remarks.
Methinks someone just made that up as an excuse.
Airlink could very well be the problem. Wifi connections are spotty and prone to data loss especially when a lot of electronics are in between the computer and the router in another room.
It is reccomended to play connected directly to the modem/router at all times with all online games.
It doesnt matter if other games run ok, as I said Black screen with looping audio is a system problem and a well known one with AMD cards. I myself have had this when my GPU is stressed heavily in games like Batman Arkham City.
While the GPU might only report 60c, that does not account for the heat on the memory nor on the rest of the card where the sensor cant detect it. My suggestion is to clean out your systems fans and graphics card fans with a can of compressed air. Heat is the usual culprit for this issue, particularly on the memory of the graphics card.
As the title suggests, the Black Lion trading post desperately needs a filter for back items. As it is now, Its far far to difficult to find anything that fits in this slot. And when you do its normally only a handfull of items with a similar name.
This is a bit of a major oversight.
Oh and while we are at it, could you fix the filters properly? Looking for and item and using weapon&upgrade filters only ever shows up gems. Its a bit rediculous that crests, sigils and the like dont show up when they easily fit to weapons.
I am going to move this to the Technical Support forum, so that someone with expertise in that are can help you. Thanks for your patience.
WHOA WHOA WHOA… Gaile I am shocked!
When did this get moved to technical support?! This has nothing to do with the technical specs of our machines hardware.
Gaile this is a software based issue and is not relevant to the tech support criteria. It got shoved down into the abyss because of this move and I will be reposting it into the correct subforum.
Tech support is not just about YOUR hardware. The point of this section of the forum is to give precise technical help from dedicated staff . Im shocked you dont know that and made the incorrect assumption its only for system hardware.
Black screen with looping audio is a known issue with AMD graphics cards across the board. This happens when the graphics card and the driver stop talking to each other correctly. Windows will automatically restart the GPU and drivers and give you a message such as “graphics driver has stopped responding and been recovered”.
The most common reasons for this happening are;
Out of date, corrupted or incorrect drivers / Overheating GPU / Defective power supply / Defective GPU and last but not least incorrectly overclocked hardware.
Thats not the game at fault. This is known as connection “flooding”. Basically your connection is not able to keep up the connection speed it is supposed to and is getting “flooded” with information then crapping out.
Any game, (and I do mean any game) that has consistant internet access requirements will have issues of flooding when the connection is unstable.
Things to try;
Ensure you firewall is correctly set to allow the GW2 exe access to the web
Ensure your AV package is set to “ignore” the GW2 exe, and is fully updated
Check your router / modem is configured correctly and has Upnp enabled
If problems still persist, contact your ISP and lodge a complaint for technical help. It will likely require an engineers assesment, as most remote tests by ISP’s wont show up many issues (like bad line quality / excessive signal noise etc).
As Kirito said already, there is another program running which is interfering with the game and causing you to go back to desktop.
Any AV program with active scanners, any firewall with popup messages, and any program that has info bubbles in task bar will cause issues like this with games titles.
Basically you need to reduce the amount of programs you have running to a minimum.
Get rid of display fusion, its a waste of time and system resources. You have everything you need to utilise the second display properly in your graphics drivers.
If you want to run a game on a 2nd display just set your 2nd display as your “main” screen. Move all your shortcuts/start bar etc to your original screen which is now your 2nd display and your good to go.
Every time you start a game it will fire up on the new display.
done! seya in game peeps!
PS – soz didnt catch 100% size but hey 800mb is a nice round number to say
Anyone who’s almost got the patch finished know exactly how big it is (in MB)?
Aprox 880mb / 436mb @ 50%
430 megs @ 60%
So under 800megs…
Probably localisation differences causing the size discrepancy.

Just be patient and leave the launcher running. Constantly closing/opening it will likely cause more issues, since its probably queing people as its overloaded.
why cant they just use a torrent principle on the patch distribution?
would solve such issues in the future. The Client doubles as a “closed” bittorrent client… thus players seed players, less server overload (the first few minutes will always cause overload since noone has the full patch right away)
The main reason I would assume, is that numerous ISP’s these days deliberately throttle down any and all torrent traffic it detects. Some even put restrictions in place that after a set time of day and data usage you are throttled down for the rest of the day. So they have you coming and going with torrents, which kills a lot of the point of torrenting updates.
Usually those kinds of features are an app running in the background and not from windows itself. My suggestion is to look for any programs running that are from HP. Stuff like HP Help Desk or HP Support etc.
Same here, couldnt log in earlier and now cant get update.
Not very well handled for a patch. Last months was a way better release. What a difference a few weeks makes. :/
UPDATED Download has started for me. had to wait on GW2 restarting itself from errors a few times. Be patient peeps!
The whole story/explore locking thing just doesnt not make sense. Sure level requirements, no problem I get that and understand. But essentially forcing players to do a mode they may have zero interest in before allowing access to exploration mode is ludicrous to me.
I mean ok, we get there is a side story to the main plot thats fine and understandable. But dont force it on us as a requirement to progress exploration mode.
this is two issues combining imo. On the one hand AC is essentially an “introduction” dungeon, one that is on theory and on paper designed for characters of 35 and up. THe problem with that is for new players the dungeon itself is needlessly difficult when they dont know whats going on, or only have a thin grasp of it. Once you become season enough “dungeon running” with a group and know wth your actually doing in the place you find it much much easier.
The learning curve is needlessly steep for such an “intro” dungeon.
That leads to player frustrations, team wipes, parties imploding, and generally being “not fun”.
On the other hand, high level characters when downscaled get such a huge advantage over players who are not downscaled that its almost comical. So some players then assume level = competancy and will only party with those of a similar level.
So that means we all lose out as new players are turned off dungeons as “not fun”, others only group with players they assume can handle themselves leaving most without a clear understanding of what or why then are then “blacklisted” from parties.
Fix the learning curve by giving players HINTS on the first run through so then know wth is going on. The address the scaling so that level power is actually equalised relatively to non scaled players and things wont seem so bad at all.
Akuma, you have a laptop graphic card thats why the driver package of recent releases says its not compatible as AMD dont officially support these cards.
However, they do have a “test” program taht will check if you device can actually use new drivers.
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-32.aspx
Go to that page and run the AMD tool. If it says your system is compatible, then you can try using official AMD drivers.
Strawberry – Your issue sounds like a similar one I myself used to have with my connection on my XP instalation. I would often have speed losses for no apparent reason, and have my connection “flooded” and dying in the same manner as you describe.
In my case it was a hosed windows instalation combined with a “dirty” line connection and an older modem. Basically my ISP said there was nothing wrong for years, and when I put in a fresh windows install of Vista I got the speed back, but the “flooding” still happened sometimes. Then when I took a new package out they found a fault and had to fit a signal booster and give me a new modem/router.
Long story short; Its not the game itself “flooding” the connection, its that the connection isnt able to keep up the data flow rate it should under normal circumstances and then crapping out and re-cycling the connection.
My advice is firstly to check the connection with another computer capable of at least connecting to the game and waiting around a bit. If that system also has connection issues, its an ISP error that needs looking in to. Almost certainly a line quality problem that most basic tests by an ISP would miss.
However if that PC is fine, then its your windows install thats busted. In that case I would strongly advise a fresh windows installation.
The game going to a black screen and then returning at a lower frame rate is a system problem. Basically your graphics driver crashed and was restarted by the OS. Thats why it blackscreens.
Graphics driver crashes/restarts are commonly caused by over-stressed components, ie GPU overheat or “dirty” voltages from the PSU fluctuating due to excessive load.
There is nothing Anet can do to resolve this, as its a system fault with the players computer. Ive had it many times with other titles on my old AMD card (Batman Arkham for instance) when its heavily stressed and running flat out. My solution was to add more cooling and clear out the fans I have on the system and on the GPU.
Can't create a Party due to an server error.

When you start a party using the party bar you MUST type a name in to the panel for inviting players. Otherwise you get “the game client us unable to connect to the log-in server” message.
On top of that there was a connectivity error yesterday that caused problems for players trying to party up. These appears to be resolved today.
Jokermo, this thread is not about your problem. This thread is about the original posters error with the game.
If you want support for your issue, post a new thread with full details of the issue and a DXdiag.
Reading your DX diag, your system is out of date.
You should have the DX11 update for Vista “(KB971512)”.
You also do not have service pack 2 for Vista which is absolutely required
Your graphics drivers are also from last year and should be updated to the latest release version.
And your audio driver is from 2008 and should also be updated.

Overheat shutdown of the PSU is definately a possibility, Ive had that myself from a dying PSU. I would suggest running a stress test on the system, such as prime95. If the system shuts down or restarts, I would concur that its a PSU problem.
No I read the ops post entirely and understand precisely the problem. The graphics drivers are causing a blue screen for the OP. How? Well graphics drivers are extremely easy to corrupt, anything from a bad shutdown to a minor power fluctuation right the way through to a simple AV update can cause drivers to become damage or corrupted.
The issue is not the game, or it would be a different error code in the BSOD event. As the op stated he had data storage problems already, so its extremely easy for the drivers to then become damaged.
My earlier advice stands; A clean instalation of the graphics drivers is required. If BSOD’s of the same type continue after doing so, then that points to a system hardware fault; quite possibly a HDD in the throws of failure.
I use MSE myself and dont have that problem, so I think we can rule it out for now and come back to that later.
Trial and error time – Do a clean boot but enable one program at a time and test the game. If it crashes when you enable a specific program, then you have your culprit.
First just to check; Do you have MSI afterburner or another similar “gaming” app for graphics? These softwares 9/10 times are the cause of such problems when they are installed, removing them is reccomended.
Now if you dont have that kind of software, first ask yourself what do you have running normally you dont actually NEED? Any program thats not critical to the comp staying on and working, disable. Test the game. If you have no joy, try disabling your anti-viruses “real time protection” and testing the game. If taht works, then you would be best to create an “exception” to the GW2 exe and game folder to stop the AV scanning it while its running.
Basically its trial and error till you find whats causing the problem. But hey, at least now you know it works fine under clean boot. So best of luck.
Discs only have the “release” data, ie the version of the game that was available when the discs where printed. They dont have all the latest updates to the game, for that you need to download it from Anet. There was a 2gb+ update earlier in the month, so that cant be on the disc obviously.
Other suggestions are to tick the Windows compatability tab and select "XP service pack 2 and also tick “disable visual themes” and “disable desktop composition”. That forces the game to work as a 32bit app properly, and use the systems resources as if it was in XP (ie no shared mem pool for graphics).
Well if its in good repair and passes a repair test, that points to an issue with your system. First check your have the latest graphics drivers for your system, then ensure that no other programs are interfering with the game. Google “clean boot” procedure to test the game. If its stable under a “clean boot” of windows, then a program you have is messing with it. You will need to figure out what, but most common cause is an anti-virus program or badly configured firewall software.
Its not the game at fault for a hosed OS. Particularly since Windows crashed on startup, games simply dont do that to windows these days.
Run a startup restore from a windows install disc, rather than from the OS drive.
Looks to me like defective files in there causing errors. Run a repair command on the GW2 client.
Locate your Gw2.exe file.
Right-click on the file and select Create shortcut.
Rename this new shortcut to Guild Wars 2 Repair.
Right-click on Guild Wars 2 Repair and select Properties.
Locate the Target line and add -repair to the end.
Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\gw2.exe” -repair
Click OK.
Double-clicking Guild Wars 2 Repair will begin the repair process. The game will launch when it is complete
Well you already know the culprit, its your graphics drivers. There is nothing the developers can do to “fix” this as its your system at fault.
You need to re-install your graphics drivers. When doing so make sure you tick the box in the nvidia installer for a “clean install” option. Make sure its the correct drivers for your operating system, and ONLY use official drivers to ensure correct operation.
Its probably the resolution difference between the laptop and desktop displays. The larger the display area, the longer the load time. This is true of many games not just GW2. The smaller laptop display doesnt need as much vram as a larger desktop display does, so its easier for the gfx card to load up the data.
It wouldnt hurt though to fully defrag the desktops main drive, and if you dont mind doing so; re-installing the graphics driver to ensure its in properly.
Mouse losing focus -right click to turn not working [Merged]

Ive had this issue with two generic mouse products and with my new logitech g600 so its not a specific issue to logitech. The real problem for me with this is that, because I have two displays almost every single time the mouse loses focus it causes my system to alt-tab back to the desktop from the mouse going off to the other unused display. Since my comp is frankly ancient, it takes over a minute to get back in to the game once this bug strikes. Its caused many deaths of my characters as I am a sitting duck while alt-tabing.
Needs resolving asap Anet.
Sounds like a corrupted file somewhere is actually causing a Blue Screen Of Death, but you have the system set to auto-restart on a BSOD so you dont see it.
If you could grab the BSOD error code, it normally points towards the culprit. For example something like; "BSOD_In_nv4dsp.dll " or similar would tell you that Nvidia graphics drivers were crashing the system. Obviously in your case the example would be for ati drivers but you get the gist.
Its best to disable automatic restarts so you can grab the error code and manually restart the system. That way you can find out the cause and fix it hopefully.
Heres a link explaining how to disable automatic restarts in Windows 7. Its a similar process in other windows OS.
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/ht/automatic-restart-windows-7.htm
Check your graphics drivers. Frame locking on state change (ie 3d to 2d) is almost always a corrupted or broken driver at fault.
Droodey, you have not verified your email address and IP, thats why you are asked to check your email each log-in. Thats your fault for not following the registration system properly.
My rig is an ancient 5 year old machine and doesnt DC that much, maybe once a day. I have not needed to change anything other than tick compatability mode for XP, and thats just so it works as a 32bit app properly in my 64bit OS. As for your router/modem, you should enable uPnP then you wont need to disable the firewall to play. If it doesnt have uPnP, then your should really get a new one from this decade.
As for the 101 disconnect, for me it seems to be related to Black Lion. If Im playing and black lion fails to log in properly or takes a very long time to do so then a 101 disconnect tends to follow shortly after.

check spelling, caps lock and ensure your using the email address you used to register.
Eh what? The client is the installer, its not seperate.
Register your account and game key. Then you have the option to download the client from the site directly and install using that one.
Its possibly a bad installer. Have you tried downloading the client from this site and installing that one?
He is not talking about macro, hes talking about a mouse profile. I have the g600 and it was extra buttons that can be assigned to ingame actions. That is not macro, thats simple keybindings.
Hey guys this does appear to be a known issue with HD 7000 series cards that is currently being looked into. At this time there is no workaround currently available. Sorry for any inconvenience!
Hi Ashley, just wanted to inform you its not JUST HD 7xxx cards having these problems with “lines”.
I myself have an older 3 series card ( HD3870) and I am also suffering the problem of lines as shown by others in this thread. However I am also getting bright lines in towns such as Rata Sum at night.
I had a look at the issue in the game in close up, and the lines appear to be a lighting problem. When these lines appear they are displayed on top of the player character when I move through them. My issue with the older model combined with 7 series would suggest to me that its not a hardware or driver problem. This indicates its an issues with the lighting effect (imo) and not just these cards.
Please see attached screenshot of the issue. As you can see in the picure I am positioned directly along the axis of the “line” issue. Its clear in the picture that the “line” is drawn on top of the player characer model.
My system is fully updated and maintained with every possible update be it driver or OS or BIOS. I have re-installed graphics drivers cleanly many times and done two repair commands on the gw2 client. The lines issue still remains.
No other title has displayed this kind of lighting error, it is unique to GW2.
