I will bet on language and localisation files. If you change the game language it will most likely require extra files for both the current and the newely selected languages.
They are not expensive and can be had for free from BL chest. Go play some content sell the loot and spend the gold on them, its that simple.
You are asking for a feature the game already has, it wont be changed any time soon if at all.
First step; Kill Trahearne off.
No its nothing personal against the character or how its portrayed. However this is exactly the same “issue” that City of Heroes had early on in its life. That is players were left second best.
What do I mean by that? Well its simple, Trahearne is the “chosen” numero uno head honcho in the storyline with the player relegated to a subordinate role. That means the players character is never the center of the story post Claw Island. Its always in relation to what is required for Trahearne to succeed as Leader of the “Pact”.
What that means for the general feeling of the plotline is that the player (after the initial personal story) isnt required in any substantial way. Sure we get “choices” of actions but they are always someone elses idea’s that the player has to go along with one way or another. And they all lead to the same conclusion in the story, with little concequence of the players “choices” along the way. Basically it doesnt make the player feel special in the game world. Infact it makes the player feel decidedly generic.
Simply put; The story should revolve around the player character and not Trahearne. Kill him off, reword the story to place the player in Trahearne’s former position so that our “choices” are those of a leader presented with options. Rather than as a suboridinate being given mission statements. Include those options in to the climax of the story (eg Orges turn up near end and make part Z easier).
Come on Anet you have done it before its not like you dont know how. You did it with Factions, where the players choices of companion in later missions changed the path to the boss making specific sections simpler.
I agree with the others here, map scraping was tedious, glitchy, and a extreme pain in the rectum. The new system is far superior in every way.
Transmutation stones, amirite?
Yup, spot on.
@Deimos ;
The system you are refering to was added late to GW1 life. There were people in high end armors that were “locked in” to stats and builds of previous versions of the game and had to be catered for. Hence the prefix switching in Nightfall and EotN.
Its one extra step in GW2 for the same effect. With it tied to mutation stones it gives the gem store a product it can sell to satisfy those that want it. That combined with the player getting basic ones as rewards for map exploration and sometimes fine ones as BL chest items, everyone is catered for.
You can change prefixes at will using mutation stones. So the game already has this feature as standard.
Intel graphics problem, most likely a driver bug. I suggest looking for updated drivers for your GPU.
Thats an entirely sexist view of women gamers. All game players are the target audience for the RMT. Simple fact is Anet is wasting its resources on this stuff that wont sell as well as other products in the RMT sphere, particularly things that have been asked for since launch (name change for instance).
Anet making clothing skins is fine, and infact to be encouraged. But imo the current ethos and designs of these pieces are wholely lacking. Its pandering to hipsters.
Its not 30 tokens, its 20. The other “10” are no doubt coming from your boss reward bags, as the game often gives extra tokens this way.
“Hoodies? Really? What’s next…….Nike and Sketchers shoes? Talk about breaking immersion. It just seems as if Anet is just wildly shooting in the dark with no real direction” Villious 8530
Actually my Elly’s shoes look like athletic shoes, including the logo depending on how it’s colored. So, they are already in the game.
QFT. Someone at Anet has a really strange notion of what people actually want in the game.
Plush backpacks? Hoodies? Riding gear? None of these things are what the vast majority actually want in the game. As many have pointed out these items are at odds with the worlds ethos and setting. It is not only jarring, its completely immersion breaking on every level.
Its Anet pandering to the idiot hipsters on facebook and twitter rather than actualy being original and doing some proper work, like fixing the bugs and making content for high level characters, other than fractals.
Wont see me wasting gold on this load of crap thats for sure.
Its not a “bug” or an “issue” nor is it overlooked. The developers are adding in new ascended items each month with various stats. Magi is currently one of the ones not yet added to ascended gear.
You just have to wait till its added to the game.
Glad to hear its not just me, for a time there I thought it might be my connection as its happening more frequently now. Tbh Im starting to wonder if its due to a windows update, because post game patch I had not seen this at all. But since I updated windows this week I have had these issues several times in the last few days.
Gandara is closed, AGAIN. Every time I go here its either uncontested and over-run. Or its uncontested, I get there and before I can even get to the karma merch is spawns the champion event. Been that way for a week and really REALLY making me peeved.
Anywhere in the EU open?
Bug fixes, bug fixes, big fixes. It’s not glamourous and rarely makes headlines and doesnt make any real money for them. But its the #1 driving factor in everyones experience. The more bugs you encounter, the less you enjoy a game regardless of how much content it has. Adding more content to an already buggy title can infact make a game much worse in perfomance / quality and in gaming enjoyment.
I suspect program interference causing corruption while in memory. Check your AV package by disabling it during repair and play. Also check for 3rd party “game booster” apps or motherboard “utility” apps as many of these are known to cause issues such as this (ie Precision X software = known game crasher/corrupter).
Best way to check this is with a “clean boot” procedure and repairing/ running GW2 under clean boot a couple of times.
I know you are talking about specific dragon events. That doesnt change anything about my post. I did Jormag last night and right before he spawned one of the guild bounty targets showed up right at Jormags spawn point. Bloody loads of players for guilds turned up to whack said bounty and no doubt made plenty of people go in to overflow since there was a crapload of them.
Anyone in overflow would not know that and irrationally assume they were ’flowed for a different reason, namely “guesting” since its been incorrectly bandied about as the cause when it is in fact several factors together and not just one thing.
As I said ; Anet lowered the number of players in an area before it will overflow, plus lots of players are now in areas taht have dragon events but are not there FOR the dragon event due to guild bounties, and the high pop servers are going to get ’flows more often because of these changes combined with the new gauranteed golds in event chests.
Its not just guesting, though that is a factor. Its several things all at once causing the increase in overflows.
(edited by Lexandro.1456)
If thats how you chose to play, then yes. My point was that GW1 you had little choice in how you played the content. It always required a team (bar one instance iirc), which absolutely needed “trinity” characters for vast swathes of content, and forced you in to pre-set “sripted” encounters.
GW2 gives me plenty of choice in how I go about playing the content, in that I dont physically need to group up to proceed at any point except where I chose to. I mix and match weapons for best effect as I want to, when I want to, for varying effects in encounters designed with that in mind.
I have four characters myself and the differing playstyles between them is very satisfying and enjoyable. More so that GW1 was to me. Dont get me wrong I loved GW1 and did almost every single bit of content at least once to see it all. Only thing I dont remember doing was the Jade sea dungeon (name escapes me, was the luxxon city one).
It is not guesting thats to blame. How do you know its guesting players, if you are in overflow? How do you even know a player IS guesting?
Map chat discussions are always bunkum, as rarely does anyone actually state facts or even tell the truth, or may even make a joke of it.
First off, Anet lowered the number of players that can be in an area before it goes to overflow. Secondly, new guild missions are sending large numbers of players to different areas of the world, including dragon event zones in order to complete said guild mission. Thirdly, high population servers are going to overflow more often because; Fourthly event chests now gaurantee a rare item and hundreds of thousands of players now NEED rares for the ecto to gain new ascended gear.
Thats all before guesting is even taken in to account.
I disagree. Its one of the things I didnt like about GW1 was the constant feeling of playing PVP in the PVE enviroment. Factions was a prime example of this. Everywhere you went each encounter was essentially an AI “team” that all had synergistic skills. This showed up the huge gap in player vs enemy skillsets, and was one of the reasons so many players were turned off Factions/Cantha as a whole. PvP is fine for those that like it, I have nothing against it and participated in plenty of PvP events. But when I am playing PvE, it is BECAUSE I dont want to play PvP and do not want the “same” experience with the game.
Thats why Nightfall didnt have this as much in PVE. Yes there were numerous encounters that were the same as factions but there was also plenty that were also just “units” and not entire teams.
Its why I believe that in this respect Gw2 is far superior. Much less enemy skill synergy, no PvP bleedthrough in the PvE enviroment, and much easier to understand enemies skillsets.
If PvE is like PvP for u, than you are saying that the AI’s in the game is smarter than you as a person.. Cus i don’t really get it.. If you see a group of mobs, you need 10 minutes to kill it in normal mode… cus that’s PVP.. so i find it really sad for u, but for normal people it takes 5-20 seconds to kill a group of mobs.
What? I cant really make sense of your post other than that you seem to want to attack me. Other than making a baseless assumption on my skill level in the current game or the previous one, could you make your point more succinctly.
Just so its clear to you what my actual point was; In Factions, world exploration and encounters were designed around PvP style combat. The developers Anet specifically said that Factions was heavily PvP focused in its design and implemenation in all areas. That means that a single encounter by you and your team was almost always a “match up” against an AI controlled team. Not individual units who are in the same area, a TEAM with synergised skills and AI tactics. It became nothing short of tedious that nearly every encounter was the same thing repeated over and over ad infinatum.
This is not the case in GW2, which is for the better imo.
The devs already said that they designed the game with level cap increases fully in mind for when they started looking at expansions.
You can add in an advancement system without the need to increase character level caps. City of Heroes did this exact thing, all characters got to level 80 as “max”. However skills could be gained and advanced through “levels” to increase a players ability and statitics. It would not be far fetched to conclude the same system could be implemented here, especially as both titles are NcSoft IP.
Yesteday and the day before I had two strange issues with partying with other players.
The first issue, which is a pretty big “wth?” was that I joined a group for fractals and we had 3 members to the team (including me). Subsequently 2 more players joined but they were not added to the party interface on my end. When we did fractals, the two players listed in my party interface were blue named, and the two other players were turqoius named indicating they were not in the party. It certainly made the fractals a LOT harder since I was unable to keep track of what they were doing in any way.
Second issue was that I again joined a party for fractals, and was waiting at the portal for team members to arrive. I was asked to enter the existing fractal while waiting, however I had NO on screen pop-up message asking me to join said fractal. I was required to enter the fractals portal itself before I had a dialogue box for entering the current active fractal instance.
Anyone seen either of these issues before?
Please speak for yourself and not me. I am a long time GW1 player, and I dont feel “bleh” as the op describes it. Only thing I see is a shortfall in content for post story (ie end-game). Fractals goes somewhere towards this, but imo a few more things like it are required for players to contend with after they reach level 80.
And that in no way spoils my enjoyment of GW2 as it is now.
Wait, what? How is this impossible? I got this yesterday no problem. And I barely do dragon events, Ive only in the last week started to bother with them.
If you want an engaging challenge, do dungeons or Fractals that are designed for multiple players. The rest of the PvE enviroment in general is designed for solo or team play. The choice is the players, not an enforced one by the game.
Nightfall had it just as much as Factions. The issue with Factions might have been that the ‘curve’ was steeper. The tutorial area experience gain was sped up, people didn’t like that, so they addressed it.
There were the kournan military, the djinns, the hekets just to name a few. Their synergies might not be as deadly to the player, but they were definitely present.
Nightfall had much less instances of “full team” encounters in the world itself. Yes as I said there were plenty of them in the game, however most were reserved to set piece events in the instance/quest chain. Generally when on “walkabout” you would encounter groups of 1 or 2 types of enemies.
In factions however this was not the case, it was ALL teams making it essentially PvP with an Ai team as opponents every encounter. The slums are a perfect example of this, almost every gang was a team consisting of wars/eles/mes etc all synegising as a team. Even when you thought it wasnt, and started combat there would be a pop-up team to “complete” the units you were fighting in to a team.
As I said I dont mind PvP and quiet enjoyed playing various events in GW1. But PvP is PvP, and should not ever bleed across in to PvE. Which is why I like the current enemy arrangement in GW2. It tends to be groups of one type, supplemented by one or two units of another type making the enemies composition less of an issue.
Looks like bad artifacting to me. Check GPU temps, graphics driver compatability and update as required.

System specifications can be changed post launch. The game even states on the back that requirements may increase at a later date than those stated.
System restore should not ever be used to “clean up” a computer. It is a safety feature intended to allow you to recover the system in the event of a serious failure.
But to try and resolve this; Go to Control Panel>Programs and look for GW2 and uninstall it if you find it. Then try re-installing the game again.
Did they remove the option of pressing Y then selecting your status as looking for group, which then gives you a small icon above your head? That was there at launch, has it gone now?
Still there, still provides no indication of what you want the group for, still entirely useless in Lion’s Arch.
Indeed. Many players dont even know wth that icon is for, nor where the current failed LFG tool is in the interface because its been buried by the bad UI layout. The game badly needs a working cross server LFG tool as standard. Those saying “but we dont need one, we have Gw2lfg.com” are missing an essential point; You dont NEED legendary weapons, you dont NEED full ascended gear, you dont NEED a TP. But the game has them because these are staples and standard features of an MMO title. By the logic of that statement we would have no advancement of anything since we dont “need” it.
Its absolutely required to be in the game itself. No iff’s, but’s, and’s or maybe’s.
I disagree. Its one of the things I didnt like about GW1 was the constant feeling of playing PVP in the PVE enviroment. Factions was a prime example of this. Well I for one wouldnt swap out a tripple core CPU for a dual core i5, and yes I do know how good an i5 is particularly in heavy single threaded apps. In my opinion more physical cores are the best option.
However in GW2 case it has a rather severe performance loss on AMD cpu’s compared to Intel chips of a similar performance range. Clearly the games code needs a fair bit of work for optimisation on AMD systems.
With that in mind and looking at your specs, my only real suggestion is a GPU upgrade. 66xx cards are mid range cards of the last generation. A 68xx or even 78xx gpu would garner better results across a range of games and not just GW2. Its the sensible option.
The email is log in verification by email which is an option the game has to make sure you account is not accessed by unauthorised people.
Secondly the password message is because you are attempting to use a password or combination of passwords that are already in usage by another user or have been compromised or extremely similar to compromised passwords and are now banned from usage as its a security risk.
Simply create a unique password and it will be fine. Stay away from obvious words or phrases and write the password down once accepted.
My definition of “grind” being essentially forced or channeled in to one “route” and having to repeat content over and over again till im flagged as high enough to do the next bit of content without major incident.
So like being a level 28 and clear a map to 100% and then be “stuck” either repeating the same map content over and over till leveled enough for a 30+ zone or trying to do battle in a 30+ zone and getting whacked over and over wasting money on repairs.
Thats grind.
The simple fact is the XP curve in the game gets way to steep to soon, meaning you finish areas off before you level enough for the next zone. It imo needs the curve lowered a bit so that its not as “grindy” and is more dynamic to the player (cleared map = lvl 30> to next zone ) kinda thing.
Soulbound/Account bound I get for unique rewards gear, especially with so many hackers that used to compromise accounts and sell all the top end gear from to make a profit. Some things though dont make sense, I mean exotic rings/amulets for instance. Account bound, sure stops it from getting out of hand with thousands of them around and stops it getting traded. But soulbound? Why cant my alt who could really use that ring or amulet not be able to to so?
Sure on ascended stuff I get it, its top end gear in the game and needs to be restricted or else theres millions of them on sale right away.
Its like at times the developers get a kind of dual identity crisis and on one hand make it easy for you to get one, so everyone can get one. But on the other hand, want to force you to do it over and over again for each alt, rather than share between alts.
314.14 sounds like the Nvidia driver build number. Which would lead me to believe that your graphics drivers are crashing (dont know why yet) and when they do, windows is trying to restart it and failing to do so. Since it cant be restarted widows is instead defaulting to a standard driver to run the card. As its not the proper one, its causing the game to go slow and other graphics problems.
The most obvious course of action I can see is a clean graphics driver re-install to ensure that there are no corrupted or damaged driver files. Download the latest Nvdia driver for your OS, and run the installer. Make sure you tick the box for a “clean install”. It may take a little longer than normal, so be patient with it.
Once its done shutdown and restart the system (important!). Now test GW2 and see if the problem occurs again. If it does, please let us know in this thread and we can try and track down the problem to a source.
best of luck.
When they are solo yes. When its 3 or more its infinite stunlock, you can not dodge before another bomb is already placed at your prone position.
- Risen – They move way, way, WAY to fast, excessive poisons, and in large numbers
- Dredge – Pulls/KB/and earth “rubble” attacks you can barely see make them a pain in the rectum
- Krait – Just and all around pain to fight, Poison AoE rings, KB,KD, and hard to see tells
- Gravelings – No explanation required, stunlock = bad game design
- Bandit Sabotuers – This one unit should be wiped from the game completely, I hate them that much. They are not “sabotaging” anything, all they do is lug barrels of gun powder around and stunlock you to infinity. Crap design, crap unit, crap to play against.
I have the same issue only much worse on my 3870, and users of both 4xxx and 5xxx cards have also reported the same issue with various different driver packages. Its a GW2 specific issue with the lighting system and how it displays it with AMD cards. If you notice, the lines are drawn on top of character models that pass through them which indicates its a lighting effect gone wrong.
What you describe sounds like HDD access problems which caused the BSOD. While I cant be sure, I would suggest that you make sure your system is fully updated with all the newest relevant drivers and OS updates.
Then I suggest you run a full defrag on the hard drive, and then do “Error Checking” also on that drive.
And if you BSOD again, please grab the code and the name string if possible as it will point towards a cause of the error, for example; BSOD IN_NV4dsp.DLL – indicates an nvidia driver problem.
The overflow is happening because Anet lowered the limit in zones before it goes to overflow, created new content that forces players to run around different zones in large numbers, and has increased the loot on meta event chests.
They are compounding one another to create increases in overflow populations. One thing though is that you can still kill shatterer and get chest loot in overflow. Its just not tracked on any site to timing it is almost impossible.
Fatal disc error points to data corruption of the GW2 files. Run a repair command on your GW2 instalation.
If you are having problems running Guild Wars 2, the data archive may have become corrupted. Please follow these steps to verify and repair the archive:
Locate your Gw2.exe file.
Right-click on the file and select Create shortcut.
Rename this new shortcut to Guild Wars 2 Repair.
Right-click on Guild Wars 2 Repair and select Properties.
Locate the Target line and add -repair to the end.
Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\gw2.exe” -repair
Click OK.
Double-clicking Guild Wars 2 Repair will begin the repair process. The game will launch when it is complete.
Note: Keep in mind that the verification and repair process will run each time you double-click the Guild Wars 2 Repair shortcut. If you would like to play the game immediately without repairing the archive, double-click on Gw2.exe or another shortcut without the -repair command.
Agreed. I was a happy bunny when I did my last fractal and got two exotics. Right away though I noticed they are both account bound. Really, REALLY peeved me that I could not sell them, especially as both were useless for my characters. Whats the point of rare/exotic drops and a TP if we cant sell the bloody things?
As the title suggests the Elementalists Glyph spell “Minor Elemental” is bugged atm. The tooltip reads ;
45 seconds recharge
60 seconds spell duration
Though it appears that those values are back to front as its
60 seconds recharge
45 seconds spell duration
The bug occurs when an elementalist takes the trait for reduced glyph recharge times. The spells actual recharge time is unnafected by the trait when it should be. The erronous tooltip notes the spell rechange time is now sub 45 seconds but on casting it remains at its default 60 second recharge time, regardless of trait or not.
Please fix thank you.
BSOD’s by the very nature of them are system faults not game ones. I would suggest that you check those drivers are actually correct for your system, as the system recovering from a driver crash is a standard windows feature and should not bluescreen a system.
Thats the real issue here, not the game im afraid. GW2 just happens to bring it to light.
Sucks you kicked, but pretty funny you were the instance owner.
Seems some people are pretty uninformed about AR. I’ve seen people on gw2lfg requiring 25+ AR for scale 20. Many people, including myself on an alt, have gone past 20 with 0 AR. I’m not sure where people get the idea they need so much AR at the early levels.
Tends to be the bad players who cant use dodge or escape skills to get away from agony activations. Personally im only runnin 5ar atm for 10-20 fractals, just because I could (got an ascended amu) and wanted the slot filled for later levels.
There are a lot of bad players with the entirely wrong mindset and hangovers from other titles projecting it on this one.
I read that piece and it actually said that culling would be “player controled” iirc. That means its just a slider or setting in the game now. High end systems can push the slider out and get less noticable culling or possibly eliminate it.
A LOT of people are still going to have culling issues, now though Anet can say its all their fault since they give you the control over it.
Comedy of errors by nubs to be frank. Ive done frac 10 many timed with no AR without issues. To then kick the party leader who started the fractal and complain, is funny. But the kicker for me is them then saying they would “see to it that anet compensates them”, which is pure gold dunce material.
Dont worry about the reports. Anet wont ban you for playing the game legit.
10 runs is not enough of a sample to learn anything about drop rates. You would have to do at least 100 runs, and even then that aint anywhere near enough for any kind of accurate data. More like 10,000 runs before it would yield sufficient data to give you a simulacrum of accurate data.
As we said its just RNG doing its thing. For all you know tomorrow you could have the best day ever in drops, its just random chance.
Yeah but there are whole lot more running around are doing stuff. 30 odd people standing around is not that big of a number of the whole. Fact is Gandara is high pop, its prime time for play, the new dailies and guild bounties are making players go all over the world map. So getting hit with overflow isnt solely because B is near his spawn window.
Thats all we are saying.
No it wont help with lag. It is all marketing speak to part fools from their cash. You are no fool my friend, you asked for advice first.
