Im afraid it looks like your having a hardware fault. Those two pictures suggest to me a failing GPU, since the graphical corruption carried over to the BSOD event page. Temps look fine generally but that “fritzing” effect is generally indicative of a graphics card on its last legs. Ive seen it many times myself with Nvidia cards that bite the dust, graphical corruption when stressed followed by system crash/BSOD.
If you have an onboard GPU its worth the effort to test it with GW2 to see if it has the problem. It would point directly to the card if the onboard ran fine.
Q; Ecto drop rate nefred?
A; No.
Conclusion; RNG is gonna RNG.
You didn’t miss much.
And it did say “fractal fortnight.”
As I mentioned in another thread. That word isn’t part of the average American’s vocabulary. :o
Its not the peoples fault for this issue, its Anet for not properly indicating the time frame. And taking the proverbial out of someone for not taking specific note of a term in a title in the game is idiotic. We had “BOSS WEEK” meta, how long did that last eh? That’s right it wasn’t a week was it. Its not the players fault for failing to take note of that kind of thing when developers cant even name events with the correct time scale.
Its defiantely not performance based as Ive had it happen while running at 60fps. The entire bar simply refuses to activate skills and hotkeys wont work. I can still move, chat, dodge and use the TP but I simply cannot use any skills under any circumstances. Respawning, downing and res’ing, and reloging all have sofar “cured” the condition once it hits but the fact it happens in the first place is the problem.
Having looked at your screenshot I noticed right away two issues. First off you have “Character Model Limit” and “Character Model Quality” on high. Lower both of these to see a substantial FPS gain. Its well known since the culling change months ago that both of these options severely impact performance.
Second issue is you have “High Resolution Character Textures” enabled. This loads high end textures for every NPC in visual range. In a town like LA that is guaranteed to lower FPS considerably due to the large number of NPC’s.
And as an FYI I have a better rig and see roughly 35 or so FPS in LA with all options maxed. So your scores of 21 fps (with the setting I noted enabled) sounds about right to be frank.
Ranger
1/ active condition removal
I have the feeling that one of the ranger’s weakness is that he has almost no active way to deal with conditions and that most of them need the pet to be alive and close to you
>> make lightning reflexes remove immobilize, cripple and chill would be a good start to adress this issue.
2/ the power build
when you want to play a power build u realise that the marksmanship tree is overloaded with useful traits while the skirmishing tree is quite lackluster.
>> add the piercing arrow effect to quickdraw ( like warrior’s crack shot would be a good way to solve this problem
Agreed completely. Condition removal is a serious achilles heel of Rangers. While we can remove all conditions from you and 4 others with the signet, it absolutely requires the pet be in close proximity to us and alive. And with no other real active condi clear skll we are severly hampered. Sure there are a couple of other ways to remove conditions (like bears/spring) however these are not “synergistic” as it were, and cannot be easily used by many builds. This combined with Rangers relatively low healing levels for direct healing means that many builds that are not specifically bunker builds crumble in seconds when set against a condition user. This can be seen in numerous game modes, and is not limited on one exclusively.
What we really need is a second utility skill that can condi clear, giving us more flexibility in skill selection. Your proposed change to LR would do this, however I feel it would need to have the dodge range halved to not make it far to effective.
Secondly as you noted a power build is limited in choice in traits, because so many that a power build would want to take we cant as they are all together in one tree. My view is that “Spotter” should move in to Skirmishing tree, as it provides a precision bonus and that is what this tree line specialises in.
That would free up choices in Marskmanship for Rangers to seriously consider LB viability across different modes. Hell to be honest anything that allows a ranger to chose all the bow skills in one build is a MUCH needed change.
Yeah I like using my LB on the ranger, because I want ONE character who can attack at range effectively. It would be nice if wasnt so crap.

The EU servers are not in Texas. Common mistake made by people who dont know Anets server setup. EU game servers are in the EU (Germany iirc). It is just the account verification server that is in Texas as far as I am aware.
“The 101 drop” as I’ve come to call it tends to be a generic error for anything that makes you lose connection to the game in some way. Personally I have had it may times myself, though some were my ISP at fault. However I have seen since the recent living story update that it seems to be more frequent.
I would suggest running a check on pingtest.net. If you have an A rating there the problem is most likely on Anets end.
Guardian imo. While yes the Warrior is most likely the best class atm in pve, Guardians have a major advantage for a newer player. As a class they are much more forgiving of mistakes. Like having Aegis to block that 1hk attack that may hit you from a miss timed dodge. Plus the DPS is comparible to warrior with some builds, and survivabulity is good in many situations.
So I say Guardian for a new player.
Why would a PvP’er care about ascended armors ? They wont be in PvP formats since the gear is stat capped. If you mean WvW, that is not classed as PvP by Anet therfor does not apply.
Unavailable through WvW
Another matter : they are completely unavailable through WvW, but the stat boost applies in WvW. How does that even makes sense? How comes in a PvP mode, to get the best gear, you don’t have to kill people to unlock the end-gear (i.e. badges? hello?) but rather gather materials and do crafting???IMO, the 2 problems need to be fixed:
- Ascended Stats way too hard to get, making the gap bigger for new/casual players
- Ascended Gear (at large) should be available through WvW, as always WvW is like the poor kidAscended gear is available through WvW or didn’t you get the memo?
Weapons=various woods/metals/ecto…the only portion not obtainable through specifically WvW is obsidian shards.Trinkets=laurels just like in pve. Guild Comms and fractals just make getting those things faster.
Backpieces=crafted in all forms of pve, WvW and regular world. Fractals just have the capacitor skins.
There are crafting stations in EB and your home BL. They are there for a reason. You can mine and cut down trees along with killing players to get mats also. Taking objectives get needed items too. WvW is just a slower way to do these things.
That is just to much work for some people. They want it to either be free and easy to get or banned from usage. Regardless of the fact they have the exact same option as everyone else in getting one.
Now see thats solid info on something that directly impacts my gameplay. We really need a master list of ranger specific bugs in here somewhere. At least then I would know what NOT to do.
Ive had a laugh the last few days using the Jaguar pet. Its F2 is “stalk” which makes is stealth for 6 seconds. Not great on the face of it, but with sic em active its bloody hilarious to see thieves in WvW turn and run wondering wtf has hitting them and then panic when they cant stealth.
For anyone wanting to try this, you have to be sure to hit F2 first, then sic ‘em. If you reverse the order, there’s a bug where the F2 will make the sic ’em buff disappear.
Didnt know about that, thanks for sharing. Funnily enough thats exactly how I have been triggering it, F2 first then sic em so the pet can sneak up and then chase down a bit after pet stealth wears off.
Nope. And while we’re at it… retaliation needs to be nerfed for the very reason you want aegis buffed.
I would say it needs a minor reworking and not an actual hard nerf. A lowering of the number of retal ticks on AoE would suffice imo.
Three most important issues with GW2 is the three most boring an un-sexy of them all. But they are absolutely required.
1.) Bug Fixing
2.) Class Balancing
3.) Performance Improvements
Everything else is pointless and a waste of time if those three are ignored as they have been. Every time I run in to a bug it lowers my enjoyment of the game, everytime a class has an excessive advantage over all others lowers my enjoyment of the game, and craptastic game performance severly lowers my enjoyment of the game.
In short the three above ruin an otherwise extremely enjoyable game.
Lol yeah right, the last thing a warrior needs is another skill that makes them more OP.
Aegis as it is currently is extremely lackluster. As said, any multi-hit attack renders it pointless. Either as said make it add invuln for a second or two or make it last for the entire attack skill, and not just one hit of it. Like if I have Aegis up and a war HB, it blocks all of the HB attacks before its removed. Basically a “per skill” block, not a “per hit” block.
No. Thats just another attempt for people to get legendary like effects without bothering to get a legendary. If you want stats changing on the fly, go craft a legendary or buy one on the TP.
Ascneded are fine as is.
No because even that dedicated WvW player has the exact same opportunity as the next player to obtain ascended items. What this thread amounts to is a person catagorically stating they wont play the content for better gear, and then complaining the are not rewarded for ignoring said content and wanting everyone else to be quiet litteraly penalised statistically for playing said content for the better gear.
All I hear is a lot of QQ from people who either dont want to craft an ascended item or dont have one yet.
Hey why dont we just remove ALL stats/buffs/gear/skills/traits/class mechanics from WvW and have everyone run around in underwear with a 1dps dagger and nothing else. I mean it would be balanced right? Everything else is irrelevant right?
Fact is ascended is here to stay. No amount of griping or forum threads or post is going to get rid of them now. Get with the program and move on already.
(edited by Lexandro.1456)
Thats the thing they dont. They either bugg out totally or they take me on even with them severly wounded, thinking i will be easy meat anyway. But dodges combined with barrage and a change to GS and it often takens them totally by surprise.
So in effect its; Spot them and LB2>thief stealths>Barrage>(stealthed thief then reveals) Evade>LB4> Pet F2>Sec em>LB2>Barrage>Change to GS>stun>maul> dead thief.
Long convoluted “rotation” as it were. But its extremely funny, and has worked several times for me since sic em change. Its simply the “panic” factor that seems to get me the win rather than my skillz though tbh.

It may not be a hard counter, or all that effective in the long run. But it is bloody hilarious to me.
The mesmer name is extremely similar to a Scottish slang word for “gentlemans parts”.
Thats all I got.
What role do ascended weapons play at all in the game? Nothing.
1) People already say that you can do all PvE content in rares (which you can), so ascended weapons (the ~6%-12% boost) do nothing other than make things “easier.”
2) If content comes out that is actually balanced around ascended gear (besides agony resistance) then you are punishing a large amount of players who hate crafting/don’t have that kind of money to sink into crafting/are not lucky enough to get a drop/etc.
This is exactly what happened in GW1. People are far to blinded by rose tinted glasses. Later title ranks in GW1 were vertical progression, for content specifically balanced around those ranks. And we have to PAY for it.
And its not a punishment, and never will be to have extra content added for free.
(edited by Lexandro.1456)
Agreed with OP.
I have absolutely no interest to invest my time on crafting in a game.
Need a second option at least, like getting tokens from dungeon/fractal to obtain ascanded.
I can support this idea. While I will probably craft most of any ascended armor, there has to be imo a viable alternative for those who want to actively play towards earning the armor instead. Current “RNG” based rewarding is frankly idiotic, and doesnt “reward” the player in any way for skill or commitment. Its pure luck.
I could envisage some kind of “uber” dungeon in a fractals esq setting that requires a lot of teamwork and with a lot of mechanics and the final reward is some tokens for ascended armor trading.
But whats more likely is they will “revamp” Shatterer or Claw to Teq standards and drop in more craptastic RNG based reward for armor stats you dont want.
Thats a good point; WvW will never be a “fair” fight, because its not designed to be. sPvP is where the “fair” and “balanced” combat is supposed to take place. WvW is just a big sandbox for people to run around in.
But it still begs the question as to why people are fine with legendaries needing boatloads of playtime and mats to craft, but are against a tier with a playtime/mats requirement lower than legendary.
Makes no sense whatsoever.
It does if you remember that Legendary weapons were supposed to be prestige cosmetics, not perma-BiS gear. That has gone out of the window along with a lot of other gear grind principles.
Nope, still makes no sense to me. The grind is fine for something that had zero effect on gameplay? Infact that makes even less sense to me.
Seriously? Not sure if serious or troll. Go play gw1 and try again.
Nice try but I played GW1 for 6 years. I didnt grind for any skins, infact I got all my prefered skins in GW1 from playing the game with friends and having fun rather than grinding for what some foolishly considered “leet”. And fyi, there was plenty of grind in GW1 for stuff that did have an effect on gameplay such as title ranks.
But it still begs the question as to why people are fine with legendaries needing boatloads of playtime and mats to craft, but are against a tier with a playtime/mats requirement lower than legendary.

Won’t ever happen. This game is almost entirely built around cosmetics and looks. If they make it so that no one can see your looks then the entire purpose of the game is gone and so is the carrot and by extension their money.
You can already give every other player a generic model, it just won’t hide their weapons or footfalls.
So no, they are not against giving players an option to hide certain cosmetic aspects of other players in the name of improved performance.
That’s strictly because performance trumps everything else. If you can convince the devs that these footfalls and weapons are objectively hindering your performance then they will probably give you the option. Otherwise I find it unlikely.
I personally don’t care either way. I’d be fine with people having an option, I just don’t really see it happening.
Of course is has an impact on performance. When in any kind of zerg with multiple players moving around with legendaries the engine is having to display numerous footfalls and weapon effects. Once that zerg starts shooting/meleeing, the game bogs down massively. Multiple effects from multiple sources all triggered in a short space of time will absolutely have an bearing on the games performance.
A toggle option for basic weapon skins, no backpack effects, and a further reduction in the excessive number of particle effects generated by skills and the game would absolutely have a performance increase.
Ok so you want ascended removed from WvW? Well if thats the case then that also means Legendaries would have to be removed. What? Legendaries now have stats of ascended weapons so by your own statement of “stats” disparity as your argument for ascended removel, they (legendary) would have to be removed also.
But what is all this hate of ascended tier? Its one tier, for what will be the final BiS stats. Legendary weapons are simple to attain, so much so I have 3 of them and almost enough mats for a 4th.
Yes for a new armor tier that means its 6 items per character, which will require a fair bit of time for every char, unless Anet takes that in to consideration and makes armor have a lower mats requirement.
But it still begs the question as to why people are fine with legendaries needing boatloads of playtime and mats to craft, but are against a tier with a playtime/mats requirement lower than legendary.
Makes no sense whatsoever.
All temporary content updates last a month, dont people pay attention anymore? Its a two week release schedule, with overlaping events. The event is “released” for a fortnight, then goes in to the two week overlap with the “new” release content. Its been this way for months.
Do people not understand the basic concept of “free” anymore? Just because something has a value attached to it does not make it “cost” you when there is zero cost attached to ownership.
If I collect an item, that has no cost attatched in doing so it is free, REGARDLESS of its value.
If I enter a competition for a brand new car, and I win and I am given the keys and ownership of it, the car is FREE. If I then chose to sell it, that is PROFIT.
All mats gathered in the world are free. There are GIVEN to the player. The “time” involved in collection is not a cost, as your “time” has no given value in the game world. You dont get 10 gold just for logging in each day. You are not “employed” in any way shape or form.
Support will not be able to revert your choice. It would require an account roll-back which is a last-resort system for compromised accounts.
However, dont worry to much as you will get another weapon skin choice later once you earn more achievement points.
Best advice I can give as another GW1 vet is to change your expectations. GW2 is a completely different game based on the lore of the original. Once you accept that, the rest is actually pretty good.
Bring in Bear McCreary I say. For those that dont know he did the score for BattleStar Galactica series remake. Some of those drum sections would be fantastic for combat music in GW2.
Something along the lines of this kinda thing;

Speaking of the TP, the buy page still has that unreadable font.
UI scale issue as far as I am aware. If you have it smaller the font gets hard to read.

I see pretty much everyone agrees that temporary content is bad, and everyone asks for new stuff instead.
So what does it take more than a wide majority yelling their voices out to make Anet understand Temporary Content was not a good idea?I mean Anet you don’t need to act like you’re beyond mistakes.
You are not, and everybody knows.
If you make one, and it is pointed out, don’t continue to do the same mistake. That’s my 2 cents
Temporaty content is fine as long as its fun. Temporary content thats boring as hell is the problem though. And lets not forget that some of what people class as temp content is actually event content that will come back around, such as wintersday events, halloween events etc. All of which were part and parcel of GW1 and proven to be good at retaining players.
All of the dungeons have portals in Lion’s Arch at the Fort Marriner Waypoint.
Lolwut? No they dont. Those portals are for the mists.
@OP
You will need to go to the map zone the dungeon is in. Once there you can join parties and a pop up menu will appear to enter the dungeon when someone starts it
Downed state has been in RPG games for decades. D&D for instance has always had your character get “downed” at zero HP but not die till you hit -10hp. The only difference is in GW2 you can perform actions when downed.
That would be made much easier if party chat wasn’t dropped as soon as you’re kicked. I find that “feature” highly annoying.
Actually this is not correct. Its not your fault though, its mis-information that people keep spreading. The chat gets cleared when you leave the instance, not the party. You can exit the dungeon while in a party, leave the party, and still have the entire chat log from the group.
…You’re more concerned about gear sorting than you are about the fact that we don’t actually have a working trade function?
YEP !
……….
QFT.
There is little to no need for a trade function precisely because we have a TP. There is no need to “trade” in gw2 when you can put it up for sale in blink of an eye, or sell it to someone who has placed an order for it.
The reason for the shift away from “personal trading” systems to a “trading post”, is because the former is exploited by con-men and scammers who take advantage of unsuspecting players, while the latter can be policed and reviewed by Anet for suspect behaviour.
The TP needs more filtering options, its a year since launch and you still cant filter for back slot items specifically.
I use KB strategically. If there is a unit “solo” when a group of them is standing near by, I will kb that unit in to his buddies to group them up for AoE.
However since champs have defiant, your example is extremely limited and a very rare occurance. Rarely do I ever see a “zerg” even bother to take down defiant stacks. And having to regroup away from banners should never cause the zerg to “fail” in taking out the champ. If it somehow does, thats a bad zerg with crappy dps.
I don’t get the daylies complain. I can’t play much during the week and daylies take me around 10 minutes to finish, I don’t see the problem.
Dont see the problem either. GW1 had a daily/weekly/monthly system too, people just like to ignore that fact when complaining about them in GW2. Fact is they are bloody easy to get, and 90% of the time I I have them done without even looking at the catagories.
Run fractals below your reward level for karma.
I already do. Even still, the current karma levels for everything else are still too low.
Glad to have helped.
Im not bored with the game. Im just looking for content to use my 80 where they are not down-leveled constantly. Im bored with the current “high level” content because Ive done it a fair number of times already due to its limited nature. Thats the only real issue for me, lack of content for high level characters.
Try this ;
Right click on the gw2 shortcut, and chose “properties”.
In the “target” box at the end add in;
-windowed
The game should start in a window now allowing you to reset the resolution you want to use.
I dont understand…am i missimg something? Why did they nerf karma?! Out of all the things they nerf the one currency which you can barely buy anything with..
It was a blatant attempt to suck karma out of peoples wallets, and massively reduce the karma in circulation in order to slow people down on ascended crafting. The rediculous thing is that it only half worked. It did NOT slow me down in the slightest, because I had enough in my wallet to splurge and get a fair whack of obsi to craft 3 ascended weapons and have enough left over for a 4th, but I am now “out” of karma.
The people this nerf really affects are newer players who will find themselves having leveled to 80 with enough karma for either an armor set OR an ascended weapon. The chances of having enough for both is extremely slim.
The karma nerf was way to hard. I was one of those people swamped with karma and nothing to spend it on. Now I actually HAVE something to spend karma on (obsi) and now also have extremely limited karma income. The net effect is that I have gone from near 2 million karma to………40k.
Yes thats a LOT of karma to spend. You see, due to Anet’s failures to address the issues with the Balthazaar event chain, the temple itself is almost never open on my server. On top of that when it is open on other servers it has been almost always outside of my playtimes. The effect of this is that I had no option but to buy orrian boxes and “RNG” obsi from those. And with the amount you actually get from boxes and the costs involved my karma went fast. (Oh and I have 7 extra crappy mini’s I dont want)
So now I have 40k karma, which is a pitance in the game and no real way to recoup what Ive lost.
It is my considered opinion that the daily/monthly allotment of karma needs to revert to its previous amounts (jug etc) at the minimum.
