Not guesting. Your server population is too high. Especially on JQ,TC,Gandara, and the other top tier ones. Like on Blackgate the 2 guesters I saw at my last event didn’t have much impact. It was the 400 people from my own server showing up. Open your eyes…..

^This. Guesting isnt the problem, its the fact the server is overpopulated from the start. That and all the AFK’ers, bots and parked characters taking up valuable space.

Its a vote system for a reason. You dont like it, leave the group.

A group is perfectly entitled to restart as many times as they like. Whats more aggrevating is the kitten who join a team then quit. Dont join a team if your going to leave, you are just wasting your time and that of the team.

choice is, if you dont want to work for a legendary, then there is many exotics you can get instead…

That not choice, thats forced to use 3rd best equipment. See this is whats wrong with games these days, far to many elitist who think they are the bee’s knee’s and no-one else is allowed to do the same.

ITS A GAME. We all paid for the same content, we are all entitled to utilise said content any way the developers allow us. That means we can buy Legendaries and Ascended gear.

Frankly; Deal with it.

Portal guns should be removed fullstop imo. Did a fractal the other night with a french canadian team who had a bot in the team. The bot couldnt do the jump puzzle bit of the harpy fractal so they used the portal gun to move it up the level till it got stuck just before the boss.

Really peeved me off because it ended up taking nearly an hour for us to get to the top. Only reason I stayed was I dont like to quit as I was party leader and wasnt about to lose out on my fractal rewards. As soon as that fractal was done though I was off like a shot and reported them.

As I said earlier in a previous post, the mechanics for the new encounters is not bad, they are simply overdone in execution. To much 1shot, to much stunlock, to much AoE damage in general.

Pro-tip for Anet – Vast majority of gamers hate “quick-time events”, or “press b not to die” modes. Get this in to your mindset and go with instead a “three strikes” mentality. It should take 3 major events/mechanics/effects to kill the player characters, that way we get 2 bites at the cherry to survive and if we fail on #3 we die. Thats a mechanic we ALL can get and work with.

I have a system that runs C2 fine, infact the only game taht ever game me trouble is Gothic 3 which is widely known as a bug ridden POS that should never have been released.

It doesnt matter if a game worked 20 minutes ago, system faults can appear in seconds especially for intermittent errors (like a PSU undervolting).

Instead of attacking me you should look at your system closer. Its obvious that you have a fault somewhere but are simply unwilling to sort it out and instead blame the game.

Lexandro.1456

Most of the errors in that log show “memory could not be read” and “missing component”.

That indicates a system error with memory allocation. And possibly a broken install. Normal culprits of memory errors are active AV scanners or firewall packages interfering with the games exe, defective system ram, or an unstable or badly done overlock.

Run a repair command on the gw2 exe (see thread at top of forums)

Do a “clean boot” procedure (google for guide) adn test the game again. If it doesnt crash that shows a program on your system is interfering with it.

If thats no good, run memtest on your RAM looking for faults in the modules. Also any and I do mean any overclock should be removed and the system should be defaulted to stock. As a long time overclocker, I have seen plenty of unstable systems exibit similar problems.

Hell. the FPS issue is nothing.

Have you ever tried being on the short end of the stick where the game either doesnt start at all or it crashes every 5-10 minutes of gameplay?

Yea, FPS problems are the least of many others worries.

If a game crashes on you every 5 minutes, then the logical thing to do is fix your system. Especially considering my rig is ancient and runs the game perfectly well. Ive had a grand total of 2 crashes, which were in the first two days of ownership. Since setting the games compatabilty options correctly it had never crashed.

Instead of blaming the game, sort out your system.

@OP a lot of the lag is due to other players not the game. A fair number of poeple have really really crappy connections and insist on playing MMO games. It doesnt matter how good the games networking is when 30+ people with sub 1mb connections group up and start firing off effects. Everyone around them is going to suffer as the data gets choked on the sub standard connections.

@OP; Any kind of BSOD indicates a system error or fault. Best thing to do is grab that BSOD code as it will point towards the culprit in 99% of cases.

No BSOD, no error codes and seemingly “random” shutdowns? Sounds like your PSU is on its last legs. Seen this exact thing many times, as Ive had my fair share of PSU’s fail over the years. It can happen after 2 mins or 2 hours, it all depends on the load the PSU can handle effectively at the time and its internal temps.

If you not comfortable testing and changing out a PSU, get a second opinion from a reputable brick and mortar computer store and they will probably do it for you for a small fee.

First of all, I’ll state that I believe the new Ascalonion Catacombs is great. This is coming from someone who farmed a lot of gold from that dungeon, has 3000+ tears, and has LvLed two characters to 80 through it.

And thats where I stopped reading. Why? Because your view is skewed by the very fact that you have played the game that much and are well versed in the mechanics, have plenty of resources and characters and probably have plenty of people on hand from your guild to join up with that are at the resources/character/playtime as you.

Im dont proclaim to be any kind of gaming god, but I am not a fool either. I see the potential in the current AC setup, however the scale of the challenge is just to much for the very people the dungeon is advertised to; New level 35 characters.

New players, with 35-45 characters and no real resources have very very little chance of passing this now without wiping multiple times along the way. Consistantly wiping over and over is not “fun” for most people.

The curent encounters and mechanics are good, they are just OP in execution.

Honestly … if you’re a brand new player and you want to push to do “end game” (scaled dungeon story/explorer) as soon as you can, I would expect you to make a point to not only learn how to use your skills, but also look online to figure out how to participate in the content. And I would also expect you to invest in having the proper equipment for the situation.

I’ve got nothing against people wanting to do things as soon as possible, I just don’t expect content should be “walk up and face roll it without needing to study, prepare or come properly equipped”.

Join a guild, level up, get some equipment, read about what you want to do before you just jump in.

Where does it say that AC is “end game content”? You get a message at 30/35 to tell you its opened to you. This is what people just dont get. It is most certainly not end game content, its a lvl 35+ dungeon.

If you were talking about Arah and making the same point I would concur with you 100%. However its AC, and it is not end-game content, its an early game intro to dungeons.

Let me repeat that again, because it seems like people keep making the same mistake;
AC is not end-game content.

As to a further point made earlier about players not acting as a team; I currently have an ele @45 who was playing AC pre-patch and having fun doing so. Being new to the ele class and wanting to “tune up” my casting skills so that switching became normal I played it a lot with icebow and FGS so that on any mounds the team has the firepower to take them out fast. My play came from using them when needed and backing up the team with AoE fire damage and a bit of water healing. Things worked great, I made friends easily. Hell that ele did AC explore mode path 1 at level 33.

LVL 33! Because I knew the mechanics, I had the skill, and I geared my char I was able to pull my weight in the team and not get spanked every 2 seconds by the mobs and bosses. I had FUN! right up to lvl 45 and the patch hitting.

Same ele, better geared, higher level, with a competant player at the controls (me) with 2 condition removals and a stun breaker utility skills; Post patch = wipe, wipe and wipe again. Not even fun, never mind FUN!

The difficulty has been skewed to far towards experienced and hardened players. Do that for Arah or CoF but doing it in AC is a a terrible idea.

Arah IS beyond their wildest imagination if they fail AC…

I doubt that, especially as last night I did Arah exp1 for the very first time. Had very little trouble with it at all. Frankly it was a fair bit easier than I expect. I did have a group who were seasoned but only 2 members who had actually done Arah previously. I did die, but only a few times and only as we were a little unfocused at the start and I made a mistake. After that it was plain sailing, and lupi was a walkover.

And yet I still think the new AC is pretty crappy.

I do not see how a random lvl 35 pug will learn anything other than that dungeons are not fun and make you die a lot.

Hammer→Nail head. You got it spot on. Almost all the people saying “its easy” have plenty of experience playing GW2 and generally have plenty of time spent doing AC.
Folks, its not that we dont want hard dungeons in point of fact I want harder ones myself. The point however is that AC is the first dungeon anyone who plays GW2 gets access to at level 30/35. “Old” AC was a gentle way of showing players “mechanics” for encounters, teaching them to avoid traps, explaining simple tactics for each class and generally, what americans would call a “kindergarden” dungeon.

Sure it had a few quirks and issues, but once you explained those to the team they understood and could either go with it or work around it. The bugs were known, we could avoid them and show others how to do likewise or how to resolve it (like the bug in P1 mounds where you get spit out the far right doorway thats locked).

Now all new players get is frustration, anger and are turned off dungeons completely unless they are informed they are not all like this. It doesnt matter if someone with alts and weeks/months of playtime thinks its easy, sorry but your opinion on AC is skewed by the fact you have alts, and weeks/months of experience in combating various foes and learning your class and various roles on a team.

New players have jack; no alts, no gear, no experience in team play or in dungeon encounters, no money, nada. They need somewhere to be blooded or broken in to the way the dungeons are structured, how to use the skills they have for best effect, what skills they should focus on for the style they like, etc etc.

I am a relatively new player. While I have over 5 years of play at GW under my belt, GW2 is a new challenge with new mechanics. I have had the game a little over a month and gamed hard to get some characters that I like playing leveled and geared. While Im not really a min/max’er, I do like being able to be useful in my role and that requires time, effort, and gear.

Old AC I “got” in a few runs of each path, it quickly grew on me as a fun place to group with other new players to take on a challenge. As I said I many times took new guildies through AC as a sort of “tour guide” showing them tips, tricks and tactics in the dungeon.

Now I really, REALLY do not want to bother as there is simply to much going on now that new players wont understand or understand and think its simply crap.

As I said tone down the creature damage a fraction, give “HINTS!” to players on the first run through, and get rid of idiotic stunlock BS (which is the WORST kind of “mechanic” ever created) and you have yourself what would be a nice dungeon for beginners. Exactly what AC should be as a 35+ dungeon.

Anet – If a group of new sub 50 players join up to do a dungeon run of AC, it should be doable for them even if they are a group of unco-ordinated “headless chicken” running around like buffoons. Why? Because they have as much right to enjoy themselves playing the game as anyone else. Tailoring it to “savvy” gamers with alts and gear out the wazzoo is moronic and defeats the purpose it being labled “35+”, when what it really means is “experience gamers only”.

Im with the op in some respects. I understand I wont do “everything” in the game with every alt I have and I appreciate new content, especially when its free.

However its clear from the way things are going that Anet are scaling high end rewards for long term consistant play. And by long term I mean several months of daily play. Now I understand where they are going with this, they want to keep us playing as it generates profits. However I cant help but think that some of Anets expectations are unrealistic for the vast majority of its actual customers.

There will ALWAYS be hardcore players who live and breath a game, and will complain when they are repeating content for weeks on end for no reward. Those though are a minority, while the majority play less than them but for the same general reason (fun!).

Its not so much fun to be told “new content!” and then view the content and realise you wont see it / play it / get it for weeks or months. If Anet really intend to keep adding content monthly they need to reduce the scale of time required to access the content so that everyone has a reasonable expectation of accessing it within a reasonably time frame prior to more content releasing.

Personaly I have no real hope in hell of getting legendary anything, and I know so I simply dont bother even trying towards anything for them. And there in is the rub. If people think its reasonable and attainable they will do it. But for many things in the game, its not reasonable so they dont.

AC impossible for PUG's

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Lexandro.1456

Lexandro.1456

I already read up on the changes to the SQ and new what to expect in general. However the actual amount of damage done per ring is way way higher now. Yes its simply a matter of dodging it, however you cannot do that if she immobilises you and then drops one on top of you which is her new favourite trick.

Coupled with that is that due to the size of her, and the massive rings in triplicate there is no room TO manouver. You evade one, and purge condition and get smacked with another right away and/or get immobilised. The cooldown on most “purging” skills is to long compared to the cooldown time on her AoE, so at some point you are going to be poisoned with no removal option.

Unless your team is hyper attentive, getting them to stagger things like “Shake it off” with your own condition purge skill on cooldown is extremely hard. Especially when they are also dodging/purging/healing every 7 or 8 seconds.

Yes its doable, but it is in no way “fun”. Reduce the damage on the AoE alone and it would be a better encounter. 1 or 2 seconds worth of the base line AoE damage will kill most sub 50’s before the team even gets to focus attacks, leading to players just leaving.

I cant even speak for the rest of the content as I simply have not seen it yet, and dont hold much hope of doing so with the current mechanics and bias towards high level characters.

Lexandro.1456

The pet system is simplistic, but annoying to use. Special skills should be F1 for ease of use instead of F2, with F2 / F3 attack/defend

On top of that there is little other than spirits that rangers have in the way of party support. Personally I dont bother with spirits as I stick to trying to make my ranger survivable (which he is atm happily) for most encounters.

What I have noticed is that ranger attack skills are under powered imo. While things like barrage are pretty good, things like poison for some reason is terrible. It doesnt last long, is hard to maintain without support, and does minimal damage even when specced for condition damage. Similarly stun~confuse/knockback/cripple effects are worthless against most bosses as they are immune.

That leaves you (as a bow user) with either the crappy poison or using vulnerability from the longbow. Not much of a choice really, especially as poison as an effect is extremely nasty when the AI use it. But for ranger players its extremely lackluster. In point of fact, I speced my bow with a sup fire sig and do a LOT more damage from that proc’ing on its own than from my normal poison effects.

Posted by: Lexandro.1456

Lexandro.1456

I tried AC last night just after the patch. Had three different teams of well equiped players of higher levels (50+) and each time we wiped at the spider queen.

Now Im not a noob, I understand perfectly how to dodge roll and use status removal skills. However it is nigh on impossible to survive when SQ does the AoE poison rings then subsequently immobilises you right on top of them. If you wait to get immobilised before using removals your dead from the base ring damage. If you use status removal before immobilise, you then have nothing to break the immobilise (which also does damage).

In short; The difficulty scale for this dungeon is now horribly broken without specific classes and skills. Any hope of 5 “randoms” passing this dungeon are now gone. And I was the person In my guild who took new players through AC explaining it to them as we go. Now there is little point even entering the dungeon, since the vast majority of newer players simply are not capable of playing it.

Ill stick to CoF for “fun” runs.

Ascended Armor - WvW Exclusive!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lexandro.1456

Lexandro.1456

No

Ascended armor makes all the exotics and unique named items worthless and pointless. It would kill half the games economy.

Rings/amulets etc are minor items that can easily be added for ascended gear. And thats why thats what we are getting.

I have a VERY VERY hard to believing that they won’t extend the ascended gear into armor and weapons. Ascended gear is an entire new tier, nothing really suggests otherwise.

Just like there have been rumors (and perhaps some small comments) regarding the future of legendaries, and how there will likely be legendary armor as well in the future.

Think for a second ok, what happens to all the legendary gear at 1k+ gold if Ascended weapons come out? They tank in price that what.

That kills gem purchases, which kills Anet profits, which kills the game as a revinue stream, and then kills the game. Added to that is everyone who had legendary/exotics would now be totaly kitten taht they uber gear they have is now essentially worthless
and you have a massive drop in the playerbase which again kills gem purchases, yada yada.

Rings and the like are fine to do, because they are non viewable “extra” items that are generally attainable for everyone with a bit of effort.

No

Ascended armor makes all the exotics and unique named items worthless and pointless. It would kill half the games economy.

Rings/amulets etc are minor items that can easily be added for ascended gear. And thats why thats what we are getting.

Just power it , and the modem down. Wait 1 minute to ensure power has cycled out and there is no residual charge then restart them. Modem first, router second.

Thats not how it works in the real world.

I could be offended by someone called “milk drinker” lodge a complaint and threated legal action. Anet have ZERO obligations to respond to that, because milk drink is not and never has been a racist or derogatary term.

Nipper has never been a racist term, if you think that is the case then more the fool you. This is almost as stupid as someone claiming “niggled/niggling” is racist, when its an extremely widely used term for something that irritates; IE “The player had a niggling injury last season” or “That burn mark niggled for a while till I put cream on it”.

Words have meanings. If we go around banning every word that someone has used in an insulting manner there would be no names left.

PS It is not a “name” it is a noun;

I find most of the Elites Ive tried on various classes to be a total waste of time and completely useless. They either last a pitiful amount of time and take ages to recharge, or the last a pitiful amount of time, take ages to recharge, and are totally pointless.

For instance why does the Asura have TWO golem summons? I mean one fine, but two? That just lack of immagination and/or lazy design.

Basically I just take whatever elite has the shortest cooldown and longest effect time. Otherwise there aint much point. Having 10/20 seconds of something and then having to wait 2-3 minutes for it again is just idiotic.
