Oh, so, by anet’s definition, having to kill a raid boss, for a 15% chance to get the sword I want = grind.

Being able to get that same sword after:

- spending hundreds of hours hoarding mats or gold to buy the mats needed to craft other mats needed to craft the sword (with time gating, because kitten)
- get that sword via killing any mob in game, with a drop chance of 0,00000001%

= no grind!!!

Give me back my grind, please.

/Thread

nothing more need to be said. False advertising and lies of no grind is what got me hooked into this game in the first place, only to find out everything is a lie.

There way of not making us grind is by making the grind so obnoxiously painful its like i am playing p2w game.

I trade lottery grind for raids anyday.

Engineer and Warrior (hard time deciding)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Engineer are pretty good in dungeons too, they have higher dps than warriors. The only reason pugs love warriors is because they are easy to play so less likely to get dead weight on your team.

I’d say go engineer because the class has alot of depth, you can invest hundreds if not thousands of hours and still find cool things to do with the class.

….atleast find a better game.

I don’t think you’ll find a much better game than this.

There are actually heaps of games better than this. The only reason this game is popular is because its so easy to succeed in, pretty much everyone is a winner.

Totally your opinion. I don’t think there are heaps better MMOs than this one, for sure. And every MMO that everyone said was going to kill this game that came out has struggled. Every single one.

So I’m not sure where all those better games are. And it’s entirely possible you might fight those games better than this one, but some of us don’t. It’s not like I can’t go raid in other games. I just find raiding annoying and a colossal waste of energy.

So what if its my opinion?.. subjects like this has always been preference mostly.

I do not look for raids though i wouldn’t mind them, i look for content where there is tension, where i have to learn things, improve to succeed. This game really lacks content for such things. 98% of the content in this game can be breezed through without even learning your class. This is why so many people are still clueless as to how to play their class, because the game hardly ever challenges anybody to give it their best or experiment.

The only thing that is even remotely challenging is fractals but it is so old and done to death a million times.

I believe tension is crucial to have in any game because if there aren’t any, then people like me fall asleep facerolling everything. But i don’t think Anet is going to change their stance as they continue to pump out mindless living stories and silverwaste map that even a 12 year old can beat with one hand.

When devs or manage makes decision that ends up detracting from the experience of the customers then the customers have the right to complain, voice their opinions and show distrust, especially when this isn’t the companies first time for doing it.

Who are you to tell us that we can’t express our opinions when you do so blatently?.. we judge because this is a product we paid for.

Whether the decision they make is easy or not is irrelevant because it does not concern the customers, its not our problem. All that matters is do you deliver what you advertised. When you don’t deliver, then the we have a problem and then threads like this will pop up.

I can’t deny that the news of no new race has me extremely disheartened. While this indeed doesn’t add any mechanics, cosmetic changes are a huge part of Guild Wars.

That said I’ll try to keep an open mind.

Pretty sure Guild Wars only ever had one race. And cosmetic changes were added with new professions and skins. In other words, HoT is following in its predecessors footsteps.

Irrelevant. Guild wars 2 already has 5 races right now and it’s commonly known that Tengu were at some point a playable race in development.

Also, while Guild Wars did not add races, it did in fact add nationalities with distinctive features.

Yes gw2 has 5 races adding more doesn’t add anything important other than a waste of resources and a check mark. Also funny the majority of people play humans which makes adding new races and even bigger waste.

All they need to do with the new races is make the female version of it as pretty/hot and many will flock to them. Just look at WoW, many people plays night elves and draenei and they aren’t humans.

Now the other thing I see people saying for some reason is that “well, if they were to shift the meta, there would be a new best build and everyone would have to run that.” What you fail to understand is that we’re not asking for a shift in the meta, we’re asking for an expansion of the meta. Imagine if I said “Eh, I’m getting bored of my zerker mesmer, I think I’ll switch over to condi damage.” And then I dropped my sword and focus for a scepter and torch. If that were viable, that would be amazing! And then I get bored of condi so I switch over to control. And then from control I decide I want to play a support mesmer. That would be the final result of solving the zerker meta problem.

Basically asking for a trinity like model ? Or in other words, you want the game to REQUIRE a certain gameplay/build to complete content. I’ll say it again, the game is designed to AVOID that all together. ArenaNet stated it (especially Colin) many times. And nothing stops you to play this controll/support mesmer. NOTHING but yourself.

Not a trinity, just more options. And no, nothing is stopping me from doing that, but I’ll say it for a third time just for you, you can feel yourself doing considerably worse if you switch builds away from your zerker build.

Mesmer also uses null field, arcane thievery, daze mantra, portal etc.. if you are just sticking to those skills, then it really tells what kind of player you are.

Why would I switch abilities when our parties run through the dungeon fine without doing so? That doesn’t make any sense.

With that logic, why run zerk if you can run pvt and get thru the dungeon fine then?.. i see some somebody simply use zerker because he was told too but didn’t actually bother to learn to play the class his playing in the dungeon.

There’s already a way to slow down zerkers and fix AI in general.

Wvw guards -> try fight those npcs. You will notice that they heal, albeit with an obvious animation, they still heal.
They also got either hard cc or blinds.

To fix Npcs and zerker meta you need ONLY 3 changes.
1 – higher attack rate with medium high damage
2 – npcs will randomly heal, cleanse conditions or use boons.
3 – npcs have two layers. (Think deathshroud), first layer represent armor. You deal less direct damage but it is not as high as the normal healthpool, second is the “life” which is huge, but you now do more direct damage.

Do this and every group must build more tanky or have a purely dedicated heal, or rely on excessive active defense spam, either way it will give you more, but better choices.

All those changes does is make thieves even more mandatory than they already are for dungeons, blind field + smoke screen to keep those attacks from getting thru and then headshot when they are about to heal.

Parties will be advertised as “LF thief” and not “LF tank and healer”

Since there are people that want to get rid of the zerk meta. I want to ask a fews thing, which gear set do you think would actually improve gameplay over zerk?.. is it pvt?.. cleric?.. celestial?

Another question is do these gear sets actually change the way your class plays?.. does a valkyrie thief play so different from a beserker thief?.. or a pvt warrior vs zerker warrior?

I honestly would prefer Anet buffing class skills, weapons and traits because those are the things actually changes the playstyle of the class, not the stat stick that your dood is wearing.

The dungeon meta is already very healthy, its just horribly misunderstood by the pug community. If people were to understand that “gear” is not a build, its the weapon, traits and skills you use, then everyone would know dungeon folsters constant adaptation of these systems.

Lifestealer.4910

This thread is just the same arguments going around and around, being constantly repeated. I really doubt this is going to get anywhere, just like every other thread concerning the ‘meta’.

I think one bigger problem is that if you truly want to endanger berserker players (which you should, PvP does this better, deal superior damage but if something sneezes in your general direction you feed rallies to the enemy team), your content has to do that, not the skill/class balance.

That is to say, content needs to be balanced so that berserker characters go down in 5-6 hits, while a Nomad character can not only sustain 20+ hits before going down but also easily heal themselves back up. Instead of the 1 vs 2 hits we have now. Likewise a berserker character should kill an enemy before they can utilize their own healing/CC, while a nomad character cannot do that. And so on.

The tuning of PvE has to be adapter to achieve anything. Ignoring that, current balance is good. Tanky setups give lots of tankiness, in the boundaries of the current system.

Not sure what you are trying to say, but a a zerker in most circumstances would be downed in 1 or 2 hit. People do fractal 50 with zerker despite trash mobs almost one shotting a player with basic attacks. In fact before the whole fractured patch where there weren’t reliable agony resist for high level fractal and most mobs inflicted agony and would one shot anyone, people still ran zerker.

Nomad can already tank alot of hits, not just 1 or two. Heck not even nomads, sometimes our guild runs a cleric guardian on fractal 50 and literally face tanks mossman and arch diviner like nobodies business.

The only times a zerker can facetank lots of hit is in the really low level dungeons, but in those dungeons anyone with other gear becomes a demi god really, impossible to die with unless you were drunk and not even then.

Those builds sucks because of the skills, it doesn’t matter what gear you slap on. A thief’s traps and venom are useless (mostly) even if you deck out in full sinister gear. In expansion there will be new specialization but i honestly doubt it will devalue the gameplay if it turns out that those spec could be decked in full zerk for maximum effeciency.

At least with thief, you have the most build diversity in pve, having three viable weapon sets (D/D for deepz), (D/P for stealth and blind spam) and S/P for survivability and synergy with the IP trait. Not only that, there are many different traits you swap in and out depending on the encounter and the weapon set you go with or the party comp you are in. Its completely irrelevant that you wear full zerk in all of it because the playstyle changes because of the other things i mentioned.

People need to start seeing that gear doesn’t dictate your playstyle, it never did. A PVT D/D thief plays exactly the same as zerk d/d, with the exception of how you can now play extremely sloppy as pvt and not die.

Alot of classes have many different build for pve, but its ALL situational. This is what i love about dungeons and i find it is the least understood part of the game, partially because of people approaching the whole thing with the wrong mindset thing as well as some dungeons being so easy that people join extremely uninformed parties that stack for everything even though its terrible strategy to do now and think thats all dungeons about.

Also if you think meta zerk thief build doesn’t use dagger storm then you are horribly misinformed. In fact, its probably the elite people should be keeping it on their bar 99.9% of the time.

What is zerking suppose to mean?…

If only anet made the dungeon so much harder than people would actually appreciate the properly played zerker guardian keeping them alive. Just be glad that the dungeon are so kitten easy that your average pug who doesn’t know how to effeciently do the run can succeed. Even the so called zerker pug party you have clueless people who don’t even know how to play their class properly.

This game has the foundation for an epic action combat in the line with dark souls. Actively fighting and dodging attacks, one mistimed dodge and half if nore more of a zerker’s life is gone. Now all Anet needs to do is make all content as challenging as dark souls, think lupicus before people started finding out exploits for him.

Also other gear stat should be irrelevant because they go against the action combat, allowing people to passive tank or heal fights, even a person in knight gear is noticeably more survival than a zerk in alot of situation, it cheapens the experience.

I also sense alot of salty people that dislike others for soloing and selling dungeon path. They don’t know that being able to solo a dungeon is a good thing, its not like soloing them is easy, let alone doing it effeciently. If you dislike parties demanding zerk all the time, you can always go solo a dungeon in whatever gear you want, any gear is viable, people have even solo’d arah naked.

Final thing i have to say is you can tell when somebody has no idea of what they are talking about when they say stacking is core for the “meta”.

Bring Back Holy Trinity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lifestealer.4910

Lifestealer.4910

People are approaching dungeons or whatever it is in the game with the wrong mindset.

As a player you are suppose to adapt, each class can do everything at once, there is no reason to be a dedicated healer or a tank because every player is expected to do those things while still providing dps. This is a good thing because it shows how good of a player you are. In any other MMO anyone can be a good healer if they look at their party members health bar and press healing whenever their life drops, anyone can be a good tank, all they need to do is round up a bunch of mobs and taunt them. If you die?.. then just blame the healer.

In this game, most (not all) of the “tanking”, “healing” and “dps” responsibility fall on every player in the party. The ability to adapt, perform proper dps rotation while timing defenses when necessary is what separates this game from all other MMO.

The only issue is Anet is refusing to update and introduce dungeons that are extremely difficult to the point where players have to fully utilize all that to the maximum capability just to finish it. Inexperienced players waltz into a disorganized pug where they use inefficient strategies to tackle the content and see it work and proclaim that the dungeon meta is bad when in truth all this “stacking” nonsense are actually not “meta”, real meta parties hardly stack for anything.

The good thing about the zerk meta is it actually makes good use of this games combat system, which is actively dodging and timing abilities.

If anything else that isn’t a pure glass was to become meta, it would actually degrade the gameplay (at least for pve)

Now all Anet needs to do is capitalize on this by making more difficult dungeon and bosses that follow the line of thinking when they designed lupicus and this game will become the Dark Souls of MMO.

Erm, lupicus takes less than a minute to kill with reflects. He’s one of the easiest/fastest bosses in Arah. In terms of ‘hard’ dungeon bosses, the HoTW bosses tend to be harder. Meleeing the boss at the end of HoTWp1 without getting downed is significantly harder, and melee cleaving the double quaggan boss in p2 even more so.

It’s enough that most speed clear teams range these two bosses, but nearly everyone melees lupi if they’re not new to Arah explorables.

What i meant by the line of thinking with lupicus is to have bosses that have different stages with different attacks that the player has to learn or risk party wipe. Anyone who went to arah for the first time or even after a week will think that lupicus is a nightmare to beat (if u dont exploit that is).

The boss encourages player to get better and learn which is what all dungeon bosses should be.

the trinity system in gw2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lifestealer.4910

Lifestealer.4910

Who made a trinity? Never encountered specific requests for class or armor type; Zerkers – occasionally; otherwise all groups I’ve been in consisted of all kinds of classes; except sometimes a person will switch to other class because group say doesn’t have a mesmer and they want to play mesmer on this fractal / dungeon – but they only switch because they want to, not because they are asked.

Maybe I’ve been lucky to avoid the “elitistest of the elitists”.

Lol necro nothing of value in above post, funny; I don’t have a necro myself I did consider making one because I see conditions becoming more important in solo roaming (fighting Mordrem in SW). Yet still I often encounter a necro in a dungeon group; sure they might not have the use of a guardian or mesmer but those conditions do hurt. I suspect that any new dungeon/mechanics added will have from time to time mobs like those husks where warriors have a tough time damaging them because you have to spec condi. And dungeon setting having only 5 people, necro would come in quite handy considering guardian can only burn, mesmers are never specced condi, and warriors also would have to change spec to go condi.

Also poison is a 50% healing debuff which has been needed in some places (Queen’s pavilion for instance). Thief can poison sure but necro I think has the most condi they can apply which can be very powerful on a tough armor mob.

If clearing dungen “husk” mobs was a thing, condi engi and warrior would be higher up in the list than a necro. Will a necro be a bit more useful?.. sure but thats not saying much since they will still be at the bottom of the barrel.

Warriors fit in dungeon comps only because of banners,

ele for might stack and deep freeze among other things like dps and condi clear and vulnerability stacking,

guardian: reflect/stability/condi clear/aegis

thief for dps, blackpowder, stealth and defiance stripping.

Ranger: spotter, frost spirit and dps

Engineer: vulnerability stacking, dps and condi clears

As a person whose done pvp for quite a bit in this game, i have never been happier to turn away from it. This is coming from mainly a pvper who likes to pvp in all sorts of games, whether fps, moba or rpgs.

There are quite a few reasons as to why i think this games pvp will never be popular. The main scope or “draw” of the spvp in this game is suppose to be its fast paced combat system, which it delivers in that sense. But what i found out is that setting up a system like this in an mmo ends up alienating anyone who doesn’t live next to the 3rd world buggy kitten servers. when your game favors reflexes, reaction time more than anything and then have me suffer latency issues is just infuriating.

Another thing is that it lacks depth, it reminds me that this game is like a call of duty version of mmos, fast paced heart pounding action but no substance to it whatsoever. The “strategies” in this game are so simplistic, just looking at the so called high level plays and most of the time its just rotate here and +1 the opponent and run bunker comp with 1-2 dps. Reflex being the only “skillful” thing to have as a player is quite shallow and its not even much of a skill to begin with.

It also doesn’t help that the classes in this game weren’t designed to feel epic at all, most of the skills feel dull and there are too many of these, there aren’t any “big plays” to be had with such a shallow skill system. Fights basically degenerates into who spams little spells as fast as possible and who gets lucky with the dodge spam. This also ties into the latency issue with players being completely outpaced by others simply because no matter how awesome or how fast you spam, you cannot outspam the next guy who has single digit ping. In order to compensate for this, anet made bunker builds that allowed people with poor reaction time and/or kittenty as latency to play, but then these builds by itself really don’t offer anything gameplay wise, in fact it degenerates it even more because fights drag out into pointlessness, sometimes never ending. Passives plays a huge role in this game which is also mind boggling when you have passives that are stronger than most actives in this game, its like watching a show of computer playing itself.

The biggest gripe i have though is how the devs have handled the pvp in this game thus far. The updates are not only lackluster, but sometimes ends up doing worse than good. Class balances are awful as always, in the name of “MOAR VIABLE BUILDS” they buff builds that offer nothing in terms of gameplay and should never exist in a competitive pvp environment like turret engineer, d/d ele or rangers in general (ok maybe except lb ranger bcuz that needed a buff), classes or builds that are auto pilot should never be buffed, i know somebody is going to come here and go "HUR DUR rangers aren’t even top level material) its still doesn’t change the fact that anet continues to try to buff passive builds and passive plays all for the sake of DIVERSITYYYY.

Now maybe i am spoiled from moba games and expect a well developed and in depth pvp system that gives insane amount of strategies and crazy plays but in the end, i found gw2 pvp underwhelming to say the least. The only reason i even managed to pump out months of pvp time in this game is because i am a masochist and would do things even if i dislike the game just because i get vs other players. When i look back at my time, i don’t see anything memorable about the time i spent in this game compared to all others like example, league which i played for 3 years and never regret that one bit.

another thing i forgot to mention is that the pvp community in this game is laughable, i wouldn’t even say toxic because toxic community doesn’t bother me as much as i have grown a thick skin from playing mobas. Its just laughable because alot of the players who pvp in this game think they are hot stuff or hipster like playing such dull pvp game and then talking down on anyone who plays the other game modes. Also the people who plays auto pilot build and think they are mlg pros. Its so laughable that i feel pity for those type of people.

People are already judgemental in this game, the so called “PHIW” judges others all the time. I have heard it all, for people playing it “wrong” for farming places out in the world map to things like oh you should play just for the sake of playing, who cares if you aren’t rewarded at all, you have the wrong mindset all along.

The “PHIW” group are all hypocrites and nothing more, just a bunch of sad excuse of people who think their way of playing is superior and that the game should constantly revolve around them, thats why whenever there is a feature suggested for another group, whether elitest or rp or whatevers, they come into the thread like locust and spread bs like “oh it wont enhance my experience and thus you shall not have it”.
