And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.
Rant over.
Sorry that not all of us have multiple hours to read every post in a single thread where every post is an essay.
I’m sorry if you thought my momentary rant was anything other than expressing the desire for posts to be concise, easily absorbed, and better serve people who have limited time to view or contribute.
Yes, I for example have set aside a lot of time to provide volunteer assistance in these threads. While I throw ideas out, I also spend hours in dialogue with fellow posters, either encouraging them or trying to provide constructive criticism that challenges them to make their offering better. I am not alone in this, and I’m glad to see others trying to talk with their peers. I want the process to be inclusive. I don’t go around stomping on people’s faces trying to drive them away so that I can lord it over the CDI process.
One thing that concerns me is the threads have consistently grown so long that they scare people off. I hope we can get a change in process/format that helps make the CDIs less scary to people. Its going to take improvement along a couple of fronts and while the structural changes are in Host-Dev’s hands, we can also do a better job of making reading those pages and pages of posts a more entertaining, rewarding, and brief undertaking.
The Host-Dev is reading the entire thread. Any player who does that too is automatically going to have a leg up on being in tune with the Host Dev and an edge in writing posts that resonate for them. That is unavoidable. So lets make that barrier to entry as small as we can
.
I agree, for the most part. I guess my largest issue is that when the thread starts, I’m totally on top of it. But then I go to bed, and it’s already unmanageable for me. I can only imagine Chris’s after break reading.
This is why I think the idea of having a specific format (with spoilers and tl;dr summaries) are important for the average reader. I’m a very avid forumer. And even I can’t keep up with it. I can only imagine a new person to the CDI must feel.
Any stat type that is currently craft able (with gossamer/ori , ecto, and t6 materials) are not salvageable. So those are berserker, cleric, assassin, knights, etc. stat types that are salvageable are items (not pearl weapons or crafted exotic armors) with soldier, magi, dire, etc are able to be salvaged for insignia/ inscriptions.
I’d like to point out to everyone that while I was following a thread in Account Issues, this was brought up by MR and Gaile Gray recommended she post it here. I said my piece, and basically it was agreed that it should be taken here for discussion.
This thread is likely being watched by developers and CCs, so keep it clean and please present your thoughts and ideas positively and constructively.

When has this stopped us before?
Just wanted to say it because I know I act differently when being watched by authority.
You have my sympathy. Started pugging recently and it has put me off since if you can’t read the leader’s mind for their tactics, you get called an idiot and kicked. Can’t even report them due to party chat disappearing afterwards. I know it’s the same in every mmo, but I hope tighter restrictions on kicking are put into the game down the line.
Many forget there was a time they didn’t know the tactics themselves..
If you admit that you don’t know what you’re doing before the run starts (assuming it isn’t a speed run) you most likely won’t be kicked.
Communicate, and things are fine.
Agreed in some cases (and I do), but I know diff tactics in other circumstances to them so it is difficult to judge. But asking has got me kicked too. It’s a vicious circle
It’s better to be kicked at the beginning of a run though, so… Yeah. Always say that you aren’t aware of the current pug tactics until you are sure you know what to do.
It’s better to not be kicked at all
But that’s not realistic. I get kicked still. I’ve seen several funny posts from fabulous dungeon runners who have gotten kicked.
It’s the way it is, and if a group doesn’t want you, that’s their business. But it is ALWAYS better to be kicked before you waste your time. Always.

Yeah giant eyes apparently drop from large moldy bags, not heavy.
But the drop rate is ridiculously low. I simply put buy orders in for my giant eyes. My immobulus is still my favorite weapon, and worth it in the long run, to me.
Wrong – they also drop from heavy moldy bags. They just have an incredibly low drop rate, which is reflected in their current prices.
Well aren’t you just a snarky little kitty.
I’ve seen them drop from large but not from heavy, which is why I provided the info I did.
For your review Madam Ajit,
I adore the cohesion of your armor, hair, and dungeon background. Also, the armors make you look ready to tear someone apart (almost barbaric ;D ). I never much liked the hairstyle, but it does look good here.
Fabulous.

Edit: people say that they drop from heavies, but the likelihood of that is very dismal.

I honestly can’t understand why this thread has not become a sticky yet.
I actually think it might be a bad thing but only because the first sticky up there (the one that essentially serves the same purpose except is very self centered and relies on only 2 mentors) the authors of that appear to me to be very … Well, not interested in any one else doing the same thing. When they posted to my sticky it seemed more like they were condescending to me, and I bet if this became a sticky they would request a merge.
I used to buy Arah p2s for levels but now they all require me to help kill Brie.

Well aren’t you just gorgeous!
Really, everyone participating, your screens are stunning.
How do you programatically distinguish a person who is legitimately kicking someone vs someone who is maliciously kicking someone?
You can’t.
Or or..remove the kitten merge button.
What would that solve, apart from that particular form of griefing? This is about kicking folks in the middle of a dungeon because they aren’t pulling their weight.
Mesmer has offhand pistol… But okay.
This was beautiful, stunning, and by all accounts worth reading.
Aw, no video? I’d love to see it.
Can you try to video it with cof?
Very nice idea.
I’d like to see this implemented. Good horizontal progression for dungeon runners.
The subforum idea is nice but it doesn’t solve the “i didn’t read previous <ascendant material required> number of posts”. Also a “free for all” forum CDI section would just generate more of this threads and definitely cause more fragmentation and chaos.
As the subforum idea goes, and i like it, i suspect it would need to be like one of the “News and Info” forum section. Anet make a CDI subforum, the currently CDI thread get open and sticked, no user can open new ones, as interesting topics come up on the main thread Chris open a new thread regard that. This is the only way i can think to have a productive subforum.
I agree with your points.
Headline
Short summary (a.k.a. TL;DR)
This is an example of what a structured post could look like.
It is easy to navigate and you can see what the person is arguing about directly without reading it.
The post is visually short and easy to look at and easy to skip looking at.
Then if you’re interested you can expand it and look at what the person is talking about. You can also combine it with Malchior’s type of writing so that here in the short summary you can write that:
As a <role>, I want <goal/desire> so that <benefit>
And then expand on it in the spoiler tags. And you write about the first topic here.
And the second topic goes here.
And so on.
I think this is perfect. Would be much easier to read through.
My pugs are better than yours…
If pug don t communicate i quit and look for another pug party….i suggest to do the same.
Well, I try to make it work with my pugs.
And now, who’s the elitist here?
I mean, really.
This infact is not a zerk nerf thread.
Its more about bosses that walks straight agaoinst a wall to eat firey GS in the aoe of warrior sbanners with players full buffed by a guardian.
Elitist thinking they are the only “organized” party are silly….
Pug coordinates and communicate….
First reason for booting in pug is infact people not listening/answering…..
I pug. I only pug, really. There’s no communication because no one designates a clear leader.
I’m sorry, but you’re so wrong it hurts.
Also this post by Kyubi is a not so clever attempt at masking their previous thread where he literally said: “I want to murder the berserker meta” in those words.
How can I consider balance from pugs pov when I don’t pug
Your fault…
This is a mmorpg…..in a mmorpg you are expected to pug…..
And balance team is expected to balance for pugs and not for you being the exception.
Funny, that’s what we’ve been saying to Kyubi when he complains about Lupi speed kills. There’s no reason to balance around organized groups. So why nerf zerk? Casual pugs aren’t abusing the zerk meta. I just don’t get what you people want. You’re hot and you’re cold, you’re yes and you’re no.
I don’t think it’s fair to say that all kicks are griefing, cause they’re not. Sometimes kicks are warranted and it is not fair for anyone to even get a single point (whether it affects their debuff or not) if the kick was warranted.
I think your aversion to “dungeon elitism” is clouding your judgment here. You’ve probably been in very few groups where a single player or two were just simply, not pulling their weight. It’s always obvious who it is, and when you ask for an experienced player, or berserker, or whatever, it is not fair for a casual player to impose their ideals onto the speed runners, and of course vice versa. However, it is very rare for a speed runner to enter a self stated casual group and expect anything else, because they have felt the pain of people not reading their group descriptions and wouldn’t do the same to anyone else.
I just think you should be looking at this through a different lens, or maybe 2 lenses instead of the one you’re currently using.
I think it’s fair to say that it sucks that very little, if anything, can be done to legitimate griefers. However, as you very well know, what is and is not griefing is very subjective. What you would get here, with this system, is people who don’t deserve any punishment or debuff getting it, because it isn’t fair to anyone to have to carry someone.
Basically it would be a kitten after kitten saying things like “haha you can’t kick me because then you won’t be able to do dungeons so I’m going to sit here and do nothing.”
It’s a bad bad precedent, what they did in pvp, IMO. Doing it to dungeons would make serious dungeon runners who occasionally pug just stop playing, or perhaps pugging altogether (thus leading to not playing) because why should anyone who paid for this game be denied the right to play a specific part? I think it’s despicable, what they did to pvp. I don’t want it to happen to us too.
I just have to say it:
TL;DR… Have people gone bat-droppings CRAZY?
What are they teaching in schools now that after you go to the trouble of boiling your entire screed down to a couple of one-line statements that encompass your complete thought in stand-alone easy-reading form… you then BURY IT at the absolute back end of your post?
If you can deliver your core thought in a couple of one-liners *&(#$^!@ LEAD WITH THAT. Make those points when people are still extending you the courtesy of their polite attention rather than assuming their eyes glazed over and hoping you can pick them up at the end when they are more likely to have gotten up and fixed themselves a sandwich than they are to be still scrolling down past a wall of blather.
Rant over.
Sorry that not all of us have multiple hours to read every post in a single thread where every post is an essay.
The closed party is essential as it allows folks to play with who they want. However I see a huge issue with denying people the ability to enter dungeons.
I know they do it in pvp, by disallowing tournaments with the debuff, but I think they can still do solo pvp, right? I’m not fully informed about pvp though.
Anyway, I don’t think this should be implemented. I think that the issue of dungeon kicking should be solved with the change in the lfg system (like you mentioned in b) and possibly through a couple more votes required. Kicking is always going to happen. There’s no way that I’m going to wait the entire 15 minutes when someone DCs to replace them, to avoid a silly debuff.
I am however not opposed to someone who has been labeled as a griefer (legitimately) getting some debuff on their account to warn other players. A certain H word name comes to mind.
I opened this thread, expecting to see a video of a 10 minute fractal 49
Because of my sorry sucky butt it was an awful 2.5 hour fractal where myself and 3 guildies got carried by a single Necro pug.
It was like… What?
I didnt do HotW in a few months actually, so I amcertain I wasn’t involved.
As Gaile asked, I will start the topic. very likely tomorrow (well today my time but after I had sometime to think bout it). Just bare with me. Considering the delicate subject… (there is a thin line between ‘name and shame’ and harashment, as some has pointed out) I want to take time to make an easy to read (short) topic that is also to the point and taking both sides of the balance into mind.
The main issue is that Harashment (false reports) should be filtered outin any way while the people who are doing bad and hide in the shadows are exposed and are NOT marked as bad people, but just excluded from party’s for some time. I do believe it is in the numbers (how much wrong doings and how long excluded is making an accaptable split between good and bad?).
As said. I am going to try and make a good proposal in the dungeons forum (and not the pvp-forum as Gaile recommended, I think that was a small typo). But pls bear with me. This topic is complicated.
I agree that it belongs in the dungeon forum. As a regular there, I’ll just ask that you not take any snarky or non constructive posts seriously or personally, things have been pretty heated up in there, so it’s been hard to listen or stay positive.
I look forward to the thread.
Using the dungeon forum as an LFG tool? Now that’s just blatantly a bug.
#ModHowYouWant
xD
My first and only time. :P
Looking for 2 more no need to be a super elite (cause im not)…. just hoping for folks who know what running a fractal is and I hate lfg.
Lemme know, on an NA server!
If the forum software permits it, to keep multiple posts from happening, you could do a flood control of a few minutes in the thread. For some people, it’ll matter, but for most who post something and leave to come back in an hour, it would be nice to see that the same person isn’t flooding the thread with posts.
In addition, I don’t feel any topic should be so broad that someone needs longer than a few paragraphs to make their point.
Kyubi, I don’t know if you realised that, but this forum is called Professions Balance.
i’m reading “Dungeons”… ?
It was moved an hour ago from Professions Balance.
Tbh the CDI really ought to have its own sub forum.
The suggestions forum was closed because it was moving topics away from the people who needed to see them. We still get “What does CDI even mean?” questions every week. Putting CDIs in a forum where only the well-informed can find them is hiding them from the players they touch on most.
The suggestions forum was axed so that developers could get the relevant information in their own sub forums, not because players and non anet forumers couldn’t wade through it.
Placing CDIs in a top forum near this forum or even near news would give it the visibility.
…they’re very attractive skins, so that’s how they justify the prices. For a couple races, cultural armor is the only armor that doesn’t clip with their unique features. So it is, in fact, worth it to some people to buy it, but never for the stats. They really should just come as skins, tbh.
Tbh the CDI really ought to have its own sub forum.
Wow it seems it works, but new guild members need to be in the guild for 72 hours before they can withdraw
So people with same problem: ask someone on previous server who you trust to withdraw the items.
:) glad it’s going to work out for you.
MMO fight are by definition supose to be lenghtly,
I’d like to see your dictionary please.
I don’t see why these are server based.
I’ll try to get someone who is on Desolation take them out for me. But I suppose the items are gone already, so server switching and this won’t help, but I’ll try.
Personally, I doubt the items are gone. Also I think you should be wary trusting other people. Your buffs on the other server will remain, so there’s no reason to think the items would be gone.
If you transfer back to your last server, iirc, you can get your items back. But it will cost quite a bit in gems.
And this isn’t a bug. It’s a thing that happens. Guild buffs are server based.
1. I think word limits on posts would be useful for me, if not, a requirement for a tl;dr. It’s tough to read through massive blocks of text.
2.It would be nice to have you, or other developers, decide on what they want to talk about, because that way our suggestions have a better chance of being considered, as it is on a topic that interests you and the devs.
Bumping this to top, make sure it doesn’t get buried.
Not realy its more like i shoot down a tentacle and take crystal and when targeted i take one and shoot it in his eye. I could longbow or rangestaff the tentacle the whole fight never actualy taking damage. Risk in Jade maw is not rewarded well enought and it realy doesnt mather if you got 1 crystal faster because jade maw is so slow at attacking and so easy to evade you might as well just auto attack tentacles one by one with a staff or a rifle to gather crystals while dodging the ray. I could somewhat stand in the same place (aka left corner) the whole time while gathering crystals from the tentacle using ranged attack and id still make it trought. Just get a ranged weapon and a melee alternative weapon and start choping the elemental one by one while dodging the ray and you likely could solo the fight on your own.
Damage on killing the tentacle? If it ever existed it was on melee range only because i never noticed any (unless you talking about the agony from phase 2 and 3).
It used to be that killing a tentacle did damage to Maw (and I guess isn’t anymore since after Fractured? But I’m not sure on that) so you could effectively speed up the fight by killing the tentacles.
I just can’t imagine why anyone would feel the need to range a tentacle.
Killing it for its crystal quicker will always be better.
didn t they remove maw damage through Killing tentacles?
i got molten 15 times in a row and i almost never get maw anymore.
Did they?
I haven’t gotten maw for a while either, but I mean, why would they get rid of that? It promotes active play. Oh wait, maybe they don’t want it to be active. Never mind.
I love that your screen is from gw1. I love the look of it.
And yes, Norns are fabuloussss
Well lets be honest Maw is way to easy as it is right now and i could actualy afk during fight if i wanted to. Do you have an idea of how they could increase the trill in this fight without actualy harming the dodge mechanic? like idk make it so boss have a random very large tentacle slap in a line where a player located so to force movement and awareness?
Well I don’t know what game you’re playing, but i move around the map A LOT in Maw to kill it quicker by killing all of the tentacles. I think you’re basically saying that you just wait there with a crystal hoping to get targeted and to hurt the boss that way, and don’t actually know the mechanics of the boss fractal that actually promote teamwork and movement and kills.
That’s the scribe guy with the banner that he summons.
And lol at wanting to not be able to dodge Maw’s beam. Let’s take the little bit of skill required in that fight (understanding when to dodge) and replace it with a mechanics that will likely make parties wipe due to the lack of crystals. GG.
The dps meta is that for a reason. And I never have trouble finding a dungeon group on the lfg with my non meta elementalist. Or any of my classes.
When I try to get a group full berserker or meta builds, it takes significantly longer due to people not reading, or they do read and don’t join my group.
Go to lfg and type LFM for x and you’ll get a group in under 5 minutes. The only exceptions I can see are less run dungeons, like Arah p4 or TA Aether path or SE p2.
People keep saying they wait hours. That’s the biggest lie I’ve ever heard.
Not sure if srs >_>
From what I’ve seen of Patrikan, and his posts in the fractured update, I think he’s just playing the devil’s advocate =)
I’m not as sure as you are. But maybe…. Maybe….
