The whole idea of GW2 is that the game begins at level 80.

that’s literally the opposite of what GW2 is about. other MMOs “begin” at max level, and GW2 went firmly against that notion, which kittened off a lot of early players that rushed through content and found out there’s nothing exclusive to lv80s to do.

The entire point of the epxnaison is to give content for people AFTER level 80. That’s what they have been saying in all the interviews. The point of the expansion is to give players the chance to progress their character even after reaching the level cap. So what Argon is saying is totally accurate.

Yes Argon is accurate but still shows that Anet was dishonest in that area. They said that Endgame starts at level 1, during the pre-release period.

But hey things change I guess.

No he wasent or he worded it incredibly inaccuratly, the expansion is to give more to do at 80 yes the original game begin at lvl2 you do the same stuff in open world at lvl 2 as u do at lvl 80. ( the only thing you cant do at lvl 2 that you can do later, is instance dungeons i belive )

And ofcourse expansion should add most of its content for 80 people game have been out 2½ years pretty much they need new content so anet dident lie during pre-release period

Yeah, they did say it would offer more content to level 80 players, but they didn’t say that the expansion as a whole would be exclusive to level 80 players.

They stated that they’re trying to integrate as much as they can to the rest of the world too, meaning areas and challenges that are below 80.

Could you imagine if you’re a new player and you wanted the expansion like everyone else? you’d have no clue what to do, you’d question the presence of this so called expansion as you progress up the levels, you wouldn’t be able to reach this content you spent a good sum on until much much later… you’d feel cheated, right?

Not if said on expansion clearly stated this is for 80 only and you think all your players can actualy read.

Agreed on all counts but one! The events are the “quests” of this game. Don’t think of them as a break, think of them as advancing the story of the zone you’re in (plus they may be the main source of xp for you).

Welcome to Tyria, there’s lots more fun waiting for you.

I would say heart were added as quests since people couldent grasp that you can just go out in the world and find stuff they had to have clear markers on were to go.

All I can say keep exploring there are hidden areas you can find with no marker on them at all.

Bag/bank space should cost gold, not gems

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Linken.6345

It should start low and scale higher, the more you buy. Linking something as critical as space to gems is severely punishing to new players and people with multiple characters/accounts, and the problem is only going to get worse. A static gold cost is a far better option.

Currently having to buy ~1000 gold worth of gems to max bank tabs and ONE character’s bag slots is ridiculous.

Agreed OP.

Personally, I think anything available on the Gem Store should be available (with reasonable effort) in game without ever having to purchase gems. Obviously though having the Gems would still make it a lot easier to get them. But it’s all about balance and Anet has to make money some how.

And as clearly stated everything in the gem store is available since you can trade gold for gems ( if you dont find that reasonable your free to buy it straight up with real money for gems )
Want to grind gold for 6 hours a day for aprox 4 days gain enough gold ( 4½ gold an hour) for two bag slots.
Or work for 2 hours at your regular jobb and put those money into gem cards its all up to you.

Personaly I like playing and earn gold while I do what things I enjoy.
Given a friend enough gold for a server transfer back from na severs when his friend there stoped playing and a new friend here in eu started.
And I got enough gems from the 5k chests to buy max bags on 4 chars if i wanted to and gold for 13 more maxed chars if I really wanted to.

What the hell do you guys do with all your gold and gems you earn in this game, do you wipe your kitten with them?

When will you realize that x times 300%, 400%, 500% or whatever is meaningless without knowing what the x is?

Do you not understand how the magic find bonus works?

Every time you kill a mob one or more random rolls are performed to see if you get loot from specific tables. If your roll is higher than the threshold for that table then you get something from it.

The magic find bonus multiplies your roll. So with a 100% magic find bonus you have double the chance to get loot from every roll. On average that means double the loot, across the board.

No it do not mate he is right if the chance to drop is 100% then having 100% bonus is dubble the loot, Since we dont know if its 100% or 1% or 0.0000001 our 300% are pretty worthless if its 0.00000000000001% said item drop but if its 100% its friggin amazing.

I would guess its pretty low and if they boost your magic find % to 600 you can be sure as hell that the base value is devided to compensate.

We dont know x the base % stuff drops so our magic find dont need to be boosted more since we wont gain on it anyway only the persons who are low on magic find will lose more on it.

What do I do with all my extra gold?

I have thousands of gold I have no immediate need for. You demand they invest development time into creating an NPC especially for you. I demand they take a developer away from insignificant ventures such as a luck vendor, and add a specific one for my needs that has rare items that are exclusive to those with excess gold.

Those are nowhere near the same thing. Gold is the main currency in the game, there are tonnes of sinks for it and in fact that isn’t a whole lot that can’t be obtained via Gold. There are also plenty of things that Karma can be used for as well as an item to help eat up excess karma (karmic converter).

On the otherhand luck drops like crazy and has very few uses, especially in comparison to the other currencies you mentioned. It is a real problem that will become more and more prevalent as more people start reaching the luck cap.

Luck hardly drop at all stop salvaging mate only rare festivals that drop luck.

I actually get luck all the kitten time from common & uncommon stuff. Granted I use a slavage o matic

Maybe you should read what you quote since you do exactly against what i said you should do to stop getting luck.

The last few posts prove that most people posting here didn’t even read the information that ANet released on masteries. I can as well talk to a wall. A discussion is only possible if everyone has read the information that is being discussed.

Hello there, wall. Have you always been here… _

Through Masteries, players who’ve reached level 80 will have the opportunity to continue their journey by acquiring powerful new abilities for their entire account.

Masteries award account-wide abilities and bonuses.

Every Mastery you invest in will bring new benefits to all of the characters on your account.

Masteries have the flexibility to both take us to new places and revisit our old favorites, and since the Mastery system provides account-based progression, new characters are always welcome.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/reimagining-progression-the-mastery-system/

I think he was more refering to this part of the blog post.

How Do I Get Masteries?

The ability to train Masteries is unlocked at level 80 for all players that own Heart of Thorns. When this ability is unlocked, your character’s experience bar will change to become a Mastery training bar while in PvE zones. This bar will track your progress on training the Mastery track you currently have selected, showing both the abilities you are training toward and those already earned from the track. To see all your Mastery tracks, spend Mastery points, and change which Mastery you are currently training.

Training as in exping moving it forward in pve zones

Walks into a brick and mortar store
Tells the management there, he wants them to reduce prices for items because it’s inconvenient to be without these items and he doesn’t want to spend money on them.
Management agrees and reduces prices.

Yeah, I can definitely see that happening.

actually this happens all the time, its why you will often find different deals, locally even in fast food chains like mcdonalds, and if you haggle with owner in a store, you can often get better deals.
People think things are just the way they are, but people who try, often find out its open to negotiation.

but you got to give em a worthy incentive.

i know a dude who knocked like 4 thousand dollars off the cost of a pool table, and 20% and tax free of various retail goods. Its not my way, but yeah it happens.

Yea but you dont see people go in to a store, this is grass i cut on my free time i want to trade this for that pool table instead of real money.
Since my time is worth money.
Much more money then you could ever get for that pooltable, cuting this grass was what i did on said free time so it should be worth just as much.

1 month after release, cost of 100 gems, 43 silver
at that time i believe you got 28 silver for beating a dungeon path
1 dungeon run = 65% of 100 gems
now, you get 1.5 gold for beating a dungeon, but it costs 13 gold for 100 gems
1 dungeon run =11% of 100 gems

you literally got no money for beating the dungeon. Just greens and blues in the chest. Green/ blue buying power had to do with how much money regular people had, which was close to nothing.

before, each time a monster in orr dropped gold, it got you 1 gem roughly, now each monster dropping gold gets you .06 gems

how? They never dropped flat currency just items that could float in the exchange which was at that point very much gold free. Heck at Karka event people that got 30 gold for selling their precursors were happy because it was really serious money.

’You did actualy get money for the path since all the bosses droped was it 15s that you could use food to boost up.

Getting hard to reply to eachother now without it becoming a big wall of text, also quite suprised it havent got closed yet consdering how we derailed it.

I’m not your bud, guy.

I was referring to food. Food buffs were the car in this case, but it is an analogy that would extend to anything. I think you might have meant to quote someone’s response to my quote. All this quoting is getting out of control lol.

Someone said that the guy who buys gold has a distinct advantage in competitive WvW because they can buy more food, giving them better stats. I was saying that competitive WvWers have food already, you can only eat one food at a time. If you don’t eat food while in WvW, then you can’t really call yourself a competitive WvWer, because food gives you a pretty substantial buff. Then you’re more of a casual WvWer.

Even if that person were only to make enough money to buy one piece of food every 30min, it would be the same outcome as if someone had 1000s of gold and had unlimited food. Both players have the same food buff and can only eat food at a specific rate (whatever the duration is).

Having a bunch of extra food (which is all a bunch of money would get you in WvW food-wise) isn’t an advantage competitively as long as all of the other players have the same food access, which they do.

So, you could say that someone who buys gold, and outfits themselves with the best gear and food would have an advantage over a casual WvWer. But not from a money standpoint, simply from a player standpoint, because a competitive WvWer who didn’t buy gold would have the same advantage over a casual WvWer (top end gear and food). Money is moot in competitive play in this game.

I will admit that on a meta scale, having more money does give you an advantage, in terms of siege availability, putting plates of food out to save others from spending money, etc. In big picture the most well-funded side, player numbers and skill being equal, would have some kind of advantage.

Then again, you don’t need to buy gold in order to achieve any of this. So again, it’s hard to claim P2W versus P2equality.

I have no problem with P2equality. I earn my stuff, and if someone wants to pay money to essentially catch up to my gear/food, more power to them. They won’t have the years of experience I do. Can’t buy that with gold. I would still beat them.

TL:DR GW2 is p2equality, not p2w, and there’s nothing wrong with p2equality because when all is equal, skill is what decides the winner. Which is how GW2 works.

Your quote is for the first guy i quote to read since he conveniently skiped the first sentence and then keep brining gear into the conversation somehow trying to justify that you need food the same way you need gear.

Edit
I killed enemies in WvW with food without having it myself clearly since its borderline pay to win according to some people i must use hacks or something.

There should be a Person A, a Person B, and a person C in your example.

Person C was an early adopter to the car, and was able to get away with it for 500 dollars and it took him a month to scrape together 500 dollars. 6 months later….Person A and B were late, and had to pay 1000 dollars for it. Well, Person B had a way to secure extra funding. He used some other form of currency and through exchange rates, was able to buy the car immediately. Poor Person A, not only has to pay 1000 dollars for the car, but has to work twice as long as person C to get it, meaning, person B is equal with person C, and have a two month advantage over person A.

Well, Person A is driving the white car and wants to enter the free for all races. Well, Person B and Person C have a couple dozen wins under their belt, and were able to upgrade to the Green, Yellow, and Purple cars, which, while not much better than person A’s white car, is still better, and the tiniest fraction of handling ability or horsepower matter in a race.

Person B and Person C wouldn’t be disqualified for driving an illegal car, because the person who sold them these ‘illegal’ cars is the same person who sold them the white car and is the same person who is running the races.
Snip

Think of it like a race where everyone has the same car. The car costs $1000. Person A scrimped and saved and bought the $1000 car, cleaned out his account. Person B was given $5000 from his uncle to buy the car, but only needed $1000, so has $4000 left over in his account. Now they race, the exact same car. Explain how person B has an advantage in this race.

You can’t.

By your logic person B “wins” simply because he has more money. When in reality they both have the exact same performance and cross the finish line at the same time, which is the specific measure of winning in the context we are discussing. Having more money is irrelevant in this particular race between two identical cars.

Food in WvW is easy enough to supply yourself, especially if you play competitive WvW. Just because someone can buy gems to also supply themselves with food, doesn’t give them any additional advantage if the people they are competing against also have the same exact food. Does that make sense? Boy I hope this makes sense to you.

Keeping with the race example, the only advantage anyone would have in this race would be person B over, let’s say, person C who is standing on the sidelines not even competing. By your logic, person B wins because he has a car and person C does not. Technically that would be true because person C does in fact not have a car and if he wanted to compete in the race, would lose since he would be running on foot, but now I have strayed from the context of competitive WvW, thus negating the argument.
Person A scamped up and saved his money to buy car A. It probably took a few months. Person B has car A immediately, but the problem with your example, is assuming that person B is buying that crappy 1000 dollar car A. They got five thousand dollars and will surely buy the more expensive car B, which is faster, has better handling, etc, meaning they will win more often in encounters than person A driving crappy car A.

By the time Person A bought crappy car A, person B would have had the same amount of time practicing racing anyways, and with a better car, meaning Person B has the advantage. Therefore, Person B will win in a majority of the races.

No in his example person B would be disqualified for driving a car that wasent legal for the race so person A would win. Try again.

Still waiting on all those items that are worth to hold on so you can vendor them instead of salvage or tping them on the spot tho.
Are you even working on that list?

Now im not saying this is their actual policy, but you imply its one or the other, and i see no reason it should be

Name one btp mmo who have given away as much as gw2 please.

Comparing it to a sub game that can count on a steady income and have to pump out content to keep that income aint fair.

If you are power farmer it should only take you a couple of weeks to get the gold for an extra bag slot. If you are not a power farmer then the extra bag slot merely allows you to a bit lazier.

It should also be noted that the Silverwastes is very easy on bag space thanks to most of the loot being in containers, so the idea that this is some sort of cynical pay to win scheme is even more absurd.

Convenience items like this being in the gem store where a lot of players are encouraged to occasionally put in less than they would for a sub. fee is a much better system that the “lucky dip” boxes where they encourage a small percentage of “whales” with poor impulse control to buy an absurd number of gems.

Not against the gem store leeching money from people with more money than sense, but space should never have been a gemstore item. Even though it was fine when the game launched (when I bought everything), it is ridiculously cost prohibitive now and needs to be changed.

‘Hey new player! Save for a month and you can get a bag slot!’

Yeah, so awesome…

I am against the gemstore leeching a large amount of money off a small number of players rather than relying on a small amount of money off a large number of players because of what it does to game developers’ behaviour. I would rather ANet concentrate on keeping a broad section of the community happy, rather than a small vocal minority.

And thats exactly what they are doing small trickle of money from alot of people on completely optional stuffs

For example:

While I’m glad were getting things like Guild Halls, imho I felt its something that should have been there a long time ago.

The other day I watched the poi and thought it looks similar to stuff were doing in game now but with some gliding thrown in and gliding won’t be present on the older maps we’ve been told.

Does anyone else feel unimpressed?

I totally agree with you man.
I’ m waiting more infos about specialisation and balance feature.
If they don’ t balance or fix ranger pets I doubt i will buy the expansion. I’ m not interested in pve stuff or guild halls.

mystic salvage kit is your friend. We gain hundred of mystic stone for free. If your loot is filled faster than your mystic salvage kit usage, that means you are gathering a lot of loot and probably have enough gold to buy enough mystic stone for more mystic kit.

does nothing for the fact that salvaging many items gives you less value than the item itself, meaning there is still an advantage to having a larger inventory. Try again.

Except that you dont win. Its pay for looks and pay for conveniance.

Anyone in a stock ugly looking mismatched stock exotic set can still own your 4000 gold worth of skinned veteran ascended player in PvE, WvW and especially PvP. Even if you look at the worst case scenario which is food, it barely even cost anything, skill and build is more important in any given scenario.

If you call the above pay to win you have no idea what pay to win even means.

In a game where technically no one wins (which is all MMO’s), winning is being a higher level, having more gold, or looking cooler than everyone else. If I can pay for a way to get more gold (which gives me more frequent access to food/nourishments which will help you win in WvW), I’m paying to win. You apparently have no idea how to not take words literally in a world where words are never taken literally anyways. Try again.

You think food/nurishment make you win in WvW man you must be in a pretty low tier WvW server

Stats matter in WvW. Unless it somehow doesn’t, come challenge me in White gear while I eat you alive in Ascended gear with food/nourishment. I wait for your response.

we´r talking 100s against 100s here you not having nurishment or food wont affect that much, its not some 1v1 dueling arena. (spvp is for dueling and its that way -> and there you cant use either food/nurishment fyi )
Its how well your servers commanders organise agains the other 2 servers commanders really.
Edit
As you like saying Try again.

Yeah, a whole zerg with white armor against a whole team with Exotic/ascended armor and food, who, because of their gear, have 75% more armor and stats(from gear) than the other team does. I’d like to see that and watch the white team prove that superior tactics will help them win. Should be hilarious.

Stats matter in WvW. So, yeah, you said it yourself. Try again.

I dont know when this fight about food/nursihment not being needed in WvW turned into white vs ascended gear tbh maybe you should read what the argument was about a second time. Try again

Food gives you stats. You said food isn’t going to help you win, therefore, you said stats don’t matter. Lets take it a step further if that’s what you really think. Maybe you should read the argument a second time.

….
….
It goes without saying.

Yes food/nurishment give you so little stat boost that it aint going to help you win, I never said you should be pratikly naked against fully geared players.
Stop putting words in my mouth man and read what was said again.
And what items are worth more to vendor trash then you gain from salvaging, Im quite curious.

Therefore stats don’t matter to you. if any amount of stats give you an advantage (exotic gear over white gear) then any amount of stats gives you an advantage, no matter the source. It doesn’t matter how small the stat boost is.

Like in the comparison to Destiny I made earlier. Milliseconds matter and so does the tiniest advantage you get when getting gold. In this game, the tiniest amount of stats matter too, especially when two equally skilled players are trying to kill each other. An advantage is an advantage. Its funny that you think they don’t.

Were is this 1vs1 mode in gw2 you keep speaking about?
Secondly still trying to get you to say what items are worth more not salvaging mate?

Since players obviously have trubble cleaning their bags as these said items clog up all the space.
This is not a fps coop game so please stop comparing it to destiny.

Please make Masteries Character-bound!

then its just back to having nothing to accomplish any more

Aint that what usualy happens with games?
But with them being able to extend masteries endlessly adding new lines add more abilitys further along an existing ones, I cant see how you would get done so fast as you seem to imply.

No, you’re doing it exactly right. Your problem is the assumption that if the advantage is small enough, it no longer exists, and also failing to admit that. That is also the problem of the guy who replied to you.

Man, you guys would have fun playing Destiny, where all the weapons’ kill times are balanced to within milliseconds of each other, well, except for the part where those milliseconds count. Same as in this game when it comes to making lots of gold and making lots of gold fast.

Yeah, but let’s stop right here and you can tell me how having an apparent infinite supply of Gold (and nothing else) helps me “win” things like WvW. Or sPvP reward track items. Or Luminescent skins.

I can be sitting on a pile of gold big enough to make Evon Gnashblade jealous and . . . I win what exactly?

Tale Destiny, and I have tried it but it was so not my cup of tea . . . FPS games just can’t be entertaining to me anymore . . . but assume I go fight Crota, Son of Oryx at the end of the raid. Does it matter if I am not set up for complete advantage, so long as I’m actively not trying to die and managing to do the steps needed to be done (kill swordbearer, protect guy with sword, drop Crota with damage, and kill Oversoul when it shows up)? Do I really need to have the bleeding edge?

Experience, and experienced players, have led me to the answer of “no”. Squeezing every advantage point to reach the peak of performance isn’t something which needs to be worried about.

About the only thing I can win is the admiration of people I don’t know, don’t care about, and would probably admire me more if I did it without the Absolute Best. I mean, anyone can wreck a Tigrex . . . but how many people do it naked with a rusty sword?

I never said it was a bad thing, so stop replying to me assuming that I’m being negative just because I called it pay-to-win. Try again, or don’t reply to me. Either way, whatever. you have yet to prove yourself right in any way.

Eh, as I said, I’ve seen “pay to win” in spades. I’ve seen a lot, honestly, which makes me stop and look over at the people who label these things and go “really?”.

Now, on the topic of bag space being an issue and the Gem Store selling things? I’m mostly okay with it – 105 slots from filling up with 20 slot bags and a 25 slot backpack.

Make two of them salvage kits so you can salvage on the run, and do your salvages when you’re auto-attacking something. Sell your wares at any stop by basically liquidating anything (make a bag an Invisible/Safe bag and you can tuck important things there to keep em from selling on accident). Consistently hit your “Deposit Materials” button so you don’t fill up on the crafting materials. Need a bank? WvW Borderlands has you covered. Stash anything in there and if you get a full stack of materials in your storage, fish it out and start a new one.

Not sure how much of an issue it is to have the extra 60 slots to play around with and fill up when you are active about liquidating your loot on a regular basis.

Man your forgetting about all the items that are worth more then the salvage materials…… Not that I have seen many of those myself tbh

Edit
If your talking about rare/exotics you can tp those from anywere Chrispy.

So. Stop at nearest NPC vendor. Sell Junk. Salvage all unwanted salvagable items. Send mats to collection. If you don’t want to salvage the sell those unwanted items on the TP, no need to even visit a TP location. Now it’s only a problem if you want to keep all those items, for some reason. Other than ascended mats which are account bound, what do you need to keep for a rainy day? Skins go into the wardrobe now. Maybe BLSKs and a handful of GS items you get from the login rewards. I ran over a year with the original 30 bank slots and none of my characters have added bag slots.

I guess I’m doing something wrong.

1) Some pretty wild assumptions in your numbers.

2) The best looking skins cost no money to get. in fact they cannot be purchased with either gems or gold.

1. If it takes 10 minutes of hard event running to fill your inventory, it will take twice as long to fill an inventory twice that size. The actual length of time it takes to fully fill your inventory is irrelevant (so is the gold amount) and its sad that that’s what your clinging to. Even if it took 3 days to fill my inventory, the numbers show that the person with a larger inventory will still have a small advantage. No wild assumption there. Try again.

2. The best looking skins to YOU cost no money to get. For me, last I checked, a Mjolnir costs a hell of a lot to get. Try again.

It does not since it take afew seconds for you to salvage and be on your merry way, also there is heart vendors litteraly everywere except afew high level zones.

No need really use said bank feature.

its about convenience

No its about stripping money from anet, people who find it a hassle buy more then 1 set of infinite harvesting tools and salvageomatics.
If this was implemented not only would they lose furter sales they would have to reimburse said buyers their gems since they made their extra tools salvageomatics worthless.

With this expansion you will buy it once and have access to it’s content forever with no further payments. If you don’t buy it, you can still play the base game, but you won’t have access to new features such as the Revenant class.

I think masteries and specializations will be restricted as well, but only ones that have to do with Heart of Thorns (such as hang gliding). Don’t quote me on that, I’m not 100% sure.

How Do I Get Masteries?

The ability to train Masteries is unlocked at level 80 for all players that own Heart of Thorns.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/reimagining-progression-the-mastery-system/

The masteries clearly being said to be unlocked if you own heart of thorns. I would think the same goes for specilizations aswell.

I think they said there would be masteries for base-game content and old maps. Not sure why they would need to be locked behind the expansion if so. But maybe you’re right, idk.

Becouse they are masteries and you dont get it if you dont buy hot as stated in the line in copy pasted for you.
Same as you dont unlock the ability to level masteries without expansion you will still be in the old system gaining skillpoints each level up.

Then tell me, how long, as in hours directly contributed to leveling the masteries, should it take in your opinion to complete all masteries? That’s a question I want to ask each one supporting the account-binding of masteries. How long should it take to complete, so that it isn’t grindy, yet a meaningful achievement (As in achieving something, not necessarily connected to achievement points)?

I’ve already stated my estimate: 10 to 20 hours of leveling (not unlocking or goofing around) per character. That’s an amount of time that allows even casual gamers to have all masteries on 1 or 2 characters while giving frequent players the possibility to have a whole deck of maxed out characters.

Also: Yeah, you’re right. GW2 isn’t about grind at all. It’s either about praying to the gods of R, N and G or about grinding enough to pay for someone elses luck. Is that any better? No, and that’s why they’re bringing alternate ways for precursors. I sincerely hope that other RNG-items will get the same treatment as them.

Well I agree with you but your hours is abit low. Seeing as its account bound i would expect it to take bettwen 270hours and 540hours at the very least.
Divide that by 9 1 for each profession.
If its rng involved I would expect it to take quite awhile longer if all the rng stuff is account bound
