Huh – that’s almost an idea for people who are thinking of getting one of those – if sentinel would be even available.
Wouldn’t it be a kick in the pants if they didn’t? They leave out Sentinel and every stat combo goes down it price while it just keeps climbing. xD

How is changing the tint “improving”?
Sorry to those who spent a lot of time getting their legendaries and have gotten attached to them.
While improving visuals can be good, it should be done on either new gear, or gear that doesn’t take very long to get(i.e. not legendaries)
- Celestial will stay as it is minus the MF bonus on it.
- MF food will work as it is working now.
- Utility Infusion will still work.
Celestial should give boon duration now. Only thing missing for the “all-around” gear.
Ascended rings didn’t make exotic rings useless….and ascended weapons won’t make exotic weapons useless. The stat difference is pretty negligible.
An exotic knight’s amulet gives 273 stats total
An ascended knight’s amulet gives 296 stats.
That is almost 8% higher. Do that across all of you gear and it will add up. That doesn’t consider what new infusions will do to weapons, which we don’t know yet.
And I can’t take your take on the manifesto serious … everyone knows that it was PR-Bullkitten.
The manifesto wasn’t PR. It was written in 2010, over 3 years ago. Companies change. Especially when they lose a large number of longtime developers over the course of a couple years. >.>

As for clipping issues that have been fixed so far, I think I recall patch notes mentioning fixes every once in a while. Sometimes it can be hard because fixing a clipping issue with one armor/weapon combo can lead to a new issue with another combo. Sometimes you have to pick one or the other because the way it is designed is mutually exclusive.
You can try to limit clipping by working within certain constraints during design. But the more you do that, the more it limits your ability to be creative with the dimensions. Then you have a problem of all your armor/weapons looking too similar and not enough variety. That’s always been a problem with modular armor design in games.
Just my 2 cents from my old Oblivion modding days.

Last night our guild group did the funhouse.
All of us had a huge drop in framerate when scarlet used her pistol barrage in the first encounter. This is the effect with the red streamers. It is a completely new effect to the game, so maybe it has something wrong with the optimization.
By massive I mean it was a slideshow the moment she started shooting. The moment she stopped, everything went back to normal. Her other attacks during that fight, and other encounters, did not cause this.
Some of us have relatively powerful machines too.

That dynamic event is more complicated, and probably took more man-hours to put together than these simple spawn events, not counting the new enemies that were created for these. They need to take more time to flesh out their content.
AAA gameplay requires AAA investment in production.

As I mentioned in my initial post, Anet were the one who insisted on releasing content when they believe that it is done and looking at the release of GW2, it was well done. Now compare that to everything post-release, you’ll see a big shift in this philosophy, it’s like a completely different company with different goal and different mindset.
I don’t even recognize “this” Anet anymore as the days goes by.
I agree with a lot of what you say.
- 1 year from the release of Prophecies(GW1) was Factions
- Only 6 months from the release of Factions was Nightfall
- 10 months after the release of Nightfall was EoTN
Ask me why I became a fan of Anet.
Also they added full dungeon(SF) and a lot of quality of life improvements between Proph and Factions. So it wasn’t like that 1 year stretch was devoid of support.
The problem is now with this 2 week schedule, there are so many bugs, balance issues and production short-cuts being taken. Can you really say the franchise has moved forward in the past year as much as it did in the year between Prophecies and Factions?
yeah i think the full “motion concept art” thing can’t be done in the time frame required. it would put a hell lot of pressure on the concept artists as well.
i hope they do come back (maybe even more frequently) whenever we go back to killing dragons and stuff.
Yeah, I am sure they did a take a lot of time. I bet every dungeon was originally supposed to have something on par with AC as an intro but they just couldn’t make it in time.
They sure are awesome though.
These new ones are not bad, but they look like they are mostly just touched up in-game assets as a shortcut.
They really are not on the level of quality and impressiveness as the cutscenes from release.(IE: race selection, pact selection, Catacombs, SE, HoTW, Orr,)
I realize some of the major people behind those(Kekai Kotaki, Horia Dociu et al) are no longer with the company, but surely that body of work can be built and improved upon.
Again, this stuff is not BAD and I am not trying to be hurtful. It is just a very obvious step down. And I realize that it might be an issue of time, not skill.

We just did the Bloodtide invasion on an overflow there were at least 3 blocked events, which wasted a lot of our time and caused us to fail killing Scarlet(but we still got the full reward)

The thing is – how much discretion to the designers themselves have when it comes to following an overall design decision based on marketing considerations etc?
Sometimes what might be a poor ethical choice could be the most logical one from an economics point of view no?
I think that really depends on the company. We would have a hard time, as outsiders looking in, seeing how all decisions are made. Some things could be based on focus testing and what gets the most consumers, while others on the designers’s own artistic desires. People make games to sell, but they also make games for themselves. I think this similar to movies and music.
For what it’s worth, my observation of Anet leads me to think there wasn’t a marketing guy saying to the Art Team Lead “That robot needs to be sexier”
I never implied you were suggesting such. I was simply stating that a few perspectives would alter, not necessary opposite of their original stance, but most would ignore it.
I think discussion of sexism in video games is worthy of our time as gamers. The past 5 years or so has seen a lot more women enjoying the medium and they are now a major part of the community
One thing that I feel is really important is that for women to be able to be involved in the game design process, which has historically been a boy’s world. And not just low level positions, but positions of leadership.
With Kekai Kotaki’s departure as Concept Art Team Lead, and Jamie Ro’s move to fill his position, we have another woman in a leadership role in game design. As much as I love Kotaki’s work, Ro is certainly talented enough to fill that role from the pieces I have seen. I do not begrudge her taking over that job.
It is also worth noting that the lead armor/fashion designer is Kristen Perry. She has been making armors for Anet since the GW1 days.

Perhaps a few perspective will be altered but the majority here seem content on simply continue their false accusations and word twisting.
For clarity. I am not trying to say that a female designer can not possibly be sexist against women. I don’t think that is the case.
But if the watchknights were designed by a woman, I think it is at least something worthy of consideration.
Isn’t the current concept art artist team lead, Jamie Ro, a woman?
She also seems to be the person most skilled at character art left after the great artist exodus at Anet. It would be cool to get some dev insight, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she concepted the watchknights herself.
If such is the case, would this affect anyone’s viewpoint on the design?

Let’s not forget the mesmer magic she put on Logan to manipulate him which resulted in the failure to kill an elder dragon and the death of Snaff which broke up Destiny’s Edge, a guild based on defeating the dragons.
