Well good luck to you… but im one of the people that are kitten ed because of that “polish”. Everything was doable without that polish it was hard and we got rewarded a unique skin…. now that they patched it its really really easy compared to before and many more people will have access to those skins -.-"

Well, I was talking about NM and our guild groups, not solo TM runs. Some of our guildies were getting frustrated, especially with the glitchy river part. I know I was.

Well, I have been very happy in my guild of the past 5+years. Yes there was drama occasionally, but overall it has been a good experience for me.

EDIT: And, for me, that was one of the key selling features of GW2. The dynamic events allowed me to do group content without forming a party.

I agree that is a positive aspect of the game.

But back to SAB, a group won’t make anything easier other than teaching. You still have to make all of the jumps. The enemies only take two hits and are really no big deal. King Toad’s attacks are not targeted so it is not like teammates will take some of the heat off of you.

Why should i down the graphic settings if my computer is good enough for it? The game looks bad enough with this terrible anti aliasing the game has to offer, reducing quality further is a no go. Its anet job to make a stable game for all available graphic settings. Otherwise they must disable them.
And my memory is working perfectly as I said.

In the meantime I sent a message to the customer support, hopefully they can help more.

It is not about how the game “should” run. It’s about about finding out what is going wrong.

The game already has an internal supersample option, which you probably have checked if you maxed everything. So you are probably going to have some kind of negative interaction from that. I recommend that you use this option rather using the hardware, but at least do one or the other. Not both.

And, if you are intent on using the hardware option, be sure to follow a proper guide(I still don’t recommend it)

Sadly those of us whose internet bandwidth is less than stellar will be missing out on this. When there are 20-30 players, my fps is less than 1, which makes playing annoying. I cannot imagine it with 80plus.

Internet bandwidth has nothing to do with FPS. Bandwidth has to do with lag. Lag issues and FPS issues are completely different.

It is important to understand to difference so you know how to address it. There is literature online that can help you with this.

With some exceptions:

  • Lag usually means you need better internet service.
  • Low FPS means you need a better computer

That being said, GW2 has very poor software optimization and even a 3000$ machine can’t run large events at a proper framerate.

Well, I tried it. I made it to King Toad, wasted my supply of twenty-something continue coins and logged out. Whomever states that SAB is solo content is out of their gourd. No offense but it’s true. Now, if you will excuse me I must go out and purchase a new keyboard as King Toad has left mine missing a few function keys.

King Toad’s health is 5 times less when soloing. If anything, it is faster to solo him because you don’t have to watch your teammates get knocked around and fail at dps. I have killed him both solo and in a group of 5 and solo was faster, but the group was more hilarious.

No to jab, but if you really used 20 continue coins on King Toad then maybe you need some guidance. What’s wrong with joining a nice guild of friendly people to show you the ropes? “I don’t group”…ok but why not?

I know that I would not and can not improve as much and as fast without my guildies. I try to reciprocate where I can.

One thing you have to learn about how our jumping/collision works is that you can’t jump up against things and slide up and over the lip like any normal platformer. You need to start your jump further back. I know this is frustrating and if I had the power to change it I most certainly would. Along with making player’s collision match their body/size, and not hang out over the sides of things. As I’m trying to push the skill of jumping it means I’ve had to bring these wonky issues to the forefront. That’s unfortunate, but in my opinion it’s worth doing for the sake of more interesting jumping challenges.

I didn’t realize you somewhat addressed my last post.

To respond to the last sentence. I think you should reconsider your stance, in light of all the feedback that you have received on this point.

Games are an extremely visual experience. If what the player is seeing is out of sync, it can be very damaging to the experience.

I believe it is still possible to make interesting jump puzzles while addressing this. You just need to move any offending jumps a couple of feet. Granted, that is a lot
of jumps on world 2.

Lucky.9421

I’m trying to ease players into more difficult jumping.

That’s good but you should keep in mind what visual feedback players get when jumping. What the player sees does not equate to what is going on with the physics and hitboxes and that can be very frustrating.

For example, often when I try to make a jump at a ledge, I am unsure if I can make it. My character slams into the ledge chest level and I think, “surely I am doomed”.

But no, I make it!

It turns out that the base of my character is slightly higher than its midsection when in the middle of the jumping animation. This means that I can make jumps which would seem visually impossible. You might think this is no big deal. It is not as bad as not making jumps that should be visually possible, right?

But it is a huge problem. Let me explain.

This false feedback, other than just looking buggy and cheap, serves as a false learning experience. If I am jumping around thinking that the base of my character is only “somewhere around my midsection” I can not properly learn to make precise jumps. I have to guess a lot. Sometimes, I guess wrong and fail in what seems like an unfair jump. I end up second guessing what jumps I can make, and not in a fun way.

Games like Mario can afford to have precise jumps because the physical base of the character is always in sync with the visual base.

What makes it worse, in GW2, is that it seems like the base of your char varies in relation to the jump animation depending on the stage of it. At zero, it is exactly at the feet, as it should be. At the start, it is slightly too high. At the apex, it is way too high.

Assuming this is a problem with the engine that can not be resolved. I recommend that you ease up a bit on the razor thin jumps. If designing a jump requires that your character slam into the ledge at chest or knee level to make it, move it slightly closer so the character’s feet are the first thing to touch the platform.

World 1 had a few of these jumps, but world 2 is full of them and I think that is the source of some the jumping frustration.

To further illustrate the point : http://youtu.be/J9-aUFHIt7c

It’s not difficulty, it’s not even lag, it’s terrible detection. If Josh can watch this and claim everything is fine with the hit detection and the player was at fault in each case, then I really don’t know what to say.

No. That is clearly a terrible experience. Something is obviously terribly wrong there. If I saw anything like this during testing we would have reworked everything. I’ve never claimed anywhere that anyone’s poor experience is because it’s the player’s fault. I don’t think that way. I like to make people happy, believe it or not.

Is this issue (dying randomly and getting pushed off rocks constantly) happening to you? If so, is it happening as frequently as this video shows? If this is anything more than an edge case than we have a serious problem that will necessitate some serious solution. Thanks for pointing it out.

I experienced bizarre knockbacks in that river portion as well. It looked just like that. I am guessing it is a synchronization issue.

Like I said, I likely fail at browsing, but I finally found it buried in a 6 hour video here. The title did not reference the tourney or PAX at all.

http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2/b/454437568

So here is some feedback for Anet:

Cut the tourney out into a separate video and label it as something specific, so that people can clearly see that it is a video of a pvp game just from the title. Then post it on twitch and youtube. Reference it on facebook, twitter, the website news feed and perhaps a sticky in this forum.

If a casual fan of the series can not find the video by using search terms such as “PAX” “PVP” “final” and “tournament” then that is not very effective promotion.

PS – Put “PAX” in the title for everything relating to PAX if you want youtube and twitch users to see any of your GW2 videos, PVP or not, during the PAX media frenzy.

The matches were really close, and they strike to me as very decent and nice guys.

actually downsampling improves graphic quality, since GW2 does not support MSAA or SSAA I have to downsample. Sadly I can only do 25% because my monitor has problems with 50% or more.

You might want to try my suggestion anyway. Just for giggles. See what happens.

2400×1500 pixels, which is about 70% more pixels than full HD.

What is the native resolution of you monitor? If it is lower than 2400X1500 then I recommend you change the game’s resolution to match. Otherwise you can have all sorts of issues.

Besides, it will look better at native because otherwise the monitor will have to downsample, interpolating all the pixels in the process.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

We have folks constantly working to improve performance, we’ve actually made quite a few perf updates this year. You’ll see more perf updates in the upcoming releases, we have a team working entirely on performance at all times that won’t be going away any time soon.

But are you going to rework the engine from the ground up? Because that seems like what it will take.

‘Tweaks’ aren’t going to to do anything when the problems are so clearly fundamental.

It is a shame, because GW1 had such solid performance for it’s era. It was actually kind of amazing. What happened at Anet? How did you guys get stuck in the past?
