Technically you’re making the common mistake that the Thaumanova Reactor fractal will take place in the area we can currently access. If you speak with people there, I’m almost certain they say that the accident was caused by Inquest experiments in an area underneath the Reactor. So it -would- be a new area.

Plus wouldn’t the Abaddon Fractal just be a ‘re-hashed version of Orr’, if you’re using that logic?

I think we would access some areas of the reactor that we did not have access to before, but it probably won’t be THAT different. At least the visual themes will be the same. And again same-old enemies.

The Abbadon Fractal battle did not happen in Orr but in/along the Crystal Sea, which is now the Crystal Desert. The battle turned it into a desert. But you put forward an interesting thought.

What if the choice was between the battle of the gods or the sinking of Orr? To fight in Orr when it is in pristine condition then get sunk below the waves.

Now THAT would be a tough choice!

Our group was recently trolled when the creator left right as the final boss reached about 5% health. I have heard other reports of this behavior. It seems to be getting more common.

If it is trollable, people will troll it. Anet should address this before it gets out of hand.

I vote for Kiel because I care about current GW2 lore. Not some old has been dungeon.

Also to much of the story is revolving around Loin’s Arch.

1. It wasn’t a dungeon, it was a mission.
2. This isn’t even the same event, pay attention. Exodus* , Crystal Sea*

I’d say the Evon supporters are actually forgetting that the Abaddon fractal they want so much may be nothing but underwater combat.. but maybe that’s just me.

Or it can be ship based combat, since Margonites were seafarers. Don’t you want to be a pirate? xD

We saw that Abbadon’s power slowly warped Varesh over the course of Nightfall, a few weeks probably.

One year could have been more than enough time to transform Jadoth and perhaps some other followers, if Varesh is an example.

Either way they will have to make new enemies. Human Margonites would still need a new theme for their own attire and attacks. Inquest and Golems.. not so much.

Why the Abaddon Fractal is Irrelevant

in Cutthroat Politics

Lucky.9421

Content NOT related to current events. If Anet wants Abaddon thats cool. But don’t sacrifice new lore for it.

It could be related, we know that the dragons have a important connection to the Gods and specifically their magic.

That said, I am not just in it for the plot points, I am also in it for new stuff! Enemies, environment art ect.

Oh look at all the people that have already convinced themselves that the fall of abaddon fractal will be infinitely better than the thaumanova reactor fractal. Even if the devs who came up with both the ideas are more excited about what the thaumanova fractal would be.

I am sure Anet will do their best no matter what wins, but it is unrealistic to think they will create a bunch of new enemies and a new map when the description does not call for it.

You already had four GW1 games and 6 years to experience GW1 lore, stop being greedy.

It’s same universe though.

Also it is not just about plot points, it is also about a fresh experience.

A new map with a new environment and new enemies with new abilities versus old stuff.

This is not an event that happened in GW1…

You will only learn SMALL details that lead up to the GW dungeon. Nothing will be relevant to the current lore.

This fractal takes place 1000 years before GW1. In will require creating a lot of new content.

Wow, you must show me this time travel device which you used to know the fractals that are to come out.

Also, the margonites are still humans during the Fall of Abbadon.

That is incorrect, we know Lord Jadoth was at least transformed prior to Abbadon’s fall and possibly others.

Get lore. xD

Also nobody knows anything for sure about the future…. but I am probably right xD

Lucky.9421

In the Abbadon fractal we are likely to get human and mutated margonites, the Forgotten and possibly Abbadon in full form + other gods.

That is nothing we have seen imagined the GW2 engine using GW2 combat mechanics. We have no idea what the Human Margonite army looks like at all actually. Not even concept art exists. We also have never seen the Crystal Sea environment. Again not even concept art exists.

In the Thaumanova fractal, it’ll likely be Inquest/Golems and possibly some corrupted minions. All of which we have already fought. And the map will most likely be a touched up Thaumanova but pretty much nothing new.

A vote for Kiel means you don’t like GW? I dont understand why people whould be playing this game then.

I didn’t say that. >__>

But definitely the Evon(Abbadon) supporters seem to be more from the GW1 ‘old guard’ who have been following the lore since many years ago. Except for good old Konig from guru. xD

One of the common mistakes I read is that people think this fractal will be the same fight as in Nightfall, when it is actually the cataclysmic battle that turned the Crystal Sea into the Crystal Desert 1000 years prior. That points to not really paying attention.

I don’t think more casual observers realize that the Abbadon fractal will require a new map and new enemies because of the nature of it, but if we get Thaumanova, we will likely tread through a mostly re-hashed map and fight copy-pasted enemies that we’ve already seen.

Of course some people understand all this and still like Kiel, and that is perfectly fine. It’s a democracy.. kinda. I voted 50 times xD

I think I may have found the culprit. Someone has been buying up Evon tokens as speculation and released 350 of them this morning all at once at 500% mark-up, which then satisfied demand as they got bought up anyway.

I did some napkin math and figure they made about 550 Gold in the ploy. Wow, that’s smooth. I wonder who it was.

I think Anet may be intending for Evon to win either way because of how much more benefits there are to voting for Evon

Have you considered how much more work(i.e. cost) Evon’s fractal is going to be from a production standpoint?

They have to make an new map from scratch. New npcs (Forgotten, Gods) and new enemies(Margonites, Abbadon).

With Kiel’s, they just have to touch up the reactor map. For enemies, it would likely be mostly Inquest/Golems and maybe Aaatxes/Shadowfiends but not much new stuff in the end.

Besides Kiel has the biggest single advantage in being an attractive human and that is probably more powerful than any one thing Evon has going for him. That is just how people are.

Much better if the epicness of the War of the Gods and the Fall of Abaddon are not reduced to a thirty-min-long, sub-par, Zhaitan 2.0 fractal instead of the God of War magnitude, DLC-length bonus mission it should be made into.

I’d gladly pay the price of 4000 gems if it were to be made a DLC.

It doesn’t look like Anet is going to pursue the dlc or paid expansion model in the foreseeable future. Not in 2013, going into 2014, at least. I think they are taking the route of Eve Online with many free small content updates, supported by the gem store instead of subs.

Even if they change their minds in 2014, we probably won’t see anything until mid 2015 at the earliest.

If they gave Ellen the Abaddon Fractal AND reduced waypoints, there would be no competition. Evan Gnashblade hinges entirely on that one promise, which is not relevant to me. I know the story already.

I know the story too, at least as much as any GW1 player could know. What I want see is what the Crystal Sea looked like. I want to see the GW2 interpretation of the Forgotten, Margonites and God avatars. And of course I want to see the creation of the Mouth of Torment with the striking down of Abbadon himself.

I already know, generally, what the reactor will look like because I do the Fire ele often. And I am pretty sure we will be fighting mostly Inquest, golems, aatxes and shadow fiends. All stuff I have seen plenty of already.

The more I consider the possible outcomes, the more brilliant this entire tangent to the story is for ANet… The absolute control they have over this while presenting the illusion that the player base holds the tiller is very,,,,,,interesting…..

Having played Anet games for almost 8 years and following their company for sometime, I have no doubts to the integrity of the vote.

If anything they would benefit more from Kiel winning because Abbadon would require way more time/money to build since it needs a new map and enemies, whereas the reactor has most of what it needs built already.

I imagine whatever boost in key sales they get would be balanced by the higher development costs.

For newer GW2 players that play fractals ask yourself…do I want to see another Asuran area or something that looks completely new and unique?

This is a good point. “Fall of Abbadon” will require a new map and new enemies.

We already know what the Asuran Reactor looks like and will probably be fighting Inquest again.

The forums seem to favour Evon, but honestly? I suspect the silent majority of GW2 players, who don’t follow the lore and don’t really pay much attention to the Living Story, will look at the two and go “Who’s this Charr? The woman looks prettier/hotter/friendlier. I’ll vote for her.” :P

That’s true. Too bad they gave the less attractive candidate the more epic content.

Also more people are affected by WP costs than use BL keys. Paying to WP is among the most common complaints I hear from players, particularly new ones.
