may be based on how many characters you created during the stresstest.
guildie of mine deleted his revenant and created a mesmer afterwards, got 2 chestsWell that’s cool then cos I wasn’t in the test and I don’t have a portal stone, but yay I got me 1 Heroic chest and a letter of Influence… kinda blows that theory sky high I guess.
Personally I am thinking its either a bug or something to do with guilds in readiness for HoT.. but who really knows – ANET as ever don’t like to give out any kind of detail and prefer the…. “let em guess, conspire and blow bubbles out their ears”
Was it that you just didn’t do the stress test? Or that you actually didn’t even have the beta slot before? Either way, the 2 happened at the same time, they removed beta slots from all those that had been in it, and these chests were sent out. There are bugs at work here somehow.
But what we do know for sure at this time, is that at least many (if not nearly all) people that were in the stress test got the chest(s), and many people that got the chest(s) were in the stress test. There are not a lot so far that are indicating they weren’t in it, weren’t selected at all, and got the chest. We aren’t hearing of the opposite either, that people selected didn’t get it, however they would be less inclined to come here and find the thread until later when they find out they don’t have it.
Regardless, we are stuck waiting on Anet to officially state something.
(edited by Lunacy Solacio.6514)
I’d definitely reply back and say that although the weapon is out, you can plainly see that in the picture you are not in combat >.<
They just didn’t look at that…
Considering some got multiples, others a tome of influence and a chest… Don’t really know. Anet should be saying something about it soon.
Have been thinking for a bit now that it may be unintentional the same way some get a heroic chest after being unbanned, related to them removing the beta char slots.
Is it that you weren’t in the stress test because you weren’t chosen and didn’t have the beta slot before? Or just that you didn’t participate?
What is known for sure so far, is that we got a heroic chest, and had the beta slot removed.
From what I’m hearing, it’s all of us that were in the beta stress test not too long ago. I don’t know why we are getting it though…
were you in the beta stress test showcasing the demo for HoT? Seems we all got one that were in it.
Some stairs you can shadowstep/blink up, others you cannot. It has always been that way and the changes to pathing, etc., have likely changed which ones it works on, but some do still count. It has to do with how the wall ‘pieces’ and stairs are matched up, etc. If you can walk to it without jumping, it should definitely count as pathable, but it doesn’t always.
As for the LoS, some things hit box are somewhat in the ground, so the arrow is obstructed since it’s target is actually in the ground >.<

That issue was supposed to have been fixed a while back :/
Bugs do happen and even old bugs can occur again but ugh. Relogging sucks when you want to be on a specific copy of a map again.
I know that I’m not losing my mind (in this case). Easy to test no effect between with and without, walk sideways with a speed signet on, activate signet while still walking sideways no change, and the reverse as well. Or have someone give you swiftness while walking sideways. It’s never an increase in speed anymore, and this used to work fine, no matter what direction you moved.
Posting this here because I am hoping it is an odd bug and not intended. I have never seen it mentioned in any notes, and It used to be that swiftness, traits, and speed signets, etc., increased your speed not only walking forward but sideways and even backwards, but of course backwards was still the slowest overall. Now however only while moving forward is your speed increased at all by any of them.
I could have overlooked a prior post on this, but was not able to find one. I am not sure when this began, but first noticed it about 2 weeks ago, but it could have changed at anytime within a month or 2 as I have not been on much as of late.
But if it had enough people to do vinewraith, it should have reopened long before.
punishing myself to play gw 1 again what i dislike to unlock the fancy heritage armor…
You should not play a game you dislike just to unlock some gear. After all games are meant to be fun.

One thing about reflections :-)
There is a GIANT pool of water under MOST of the zones in the game. The surface of that pool is reflected when you use ALL for reflections. This kills performance due to this, so setting it to terrain/sky is the work around to this issue.I tested this in WvW when you could teleport under the ground and swim around. Setting to terrain and sky removes the reflection from the under ground water :-)
I had kind of wondered if it was reflecting there, but never enough to investigate to find out. That is good to know, but I always preferred it with all >.<

I am curious as to why the sudden shift in attitude. Any reason for it, other than “oh, we finally realised what every other online gaming company has known for over a decade, that RMT involves fraud, identity theft and account theft”?
Likely new tools to aid in the identification and streamlining of the process, as well as easier access of accounts from the GM’s side. They have threatened to do so before, and supposedly had, but now they are being aggressive in it.
This is the consequence of allowing any party size to queue, but in my opinion is far less of a problem than splitting up the community.
Well, no disrespect intended but have you paid much attention to the general outlook most people have on the current state of PvP/matchmaking/the queue system?
No matter what they do, some will be vocal in their hatred of the solution. People complain. In the past 24 hours I’ve seen tons of complaining on the forum even just glancing at it, and tons of complaining in gw1 even. Why? Because people complain.
As was said up, you cannot possibly please everyone. In old system 4 people couldn’t queue up together unless they found a 5th from HotM. They now can queue up and have one assigned. They have said many times that after they added the SoloQ that it was splitting the community too much. Now they have once again integrated it. I am sure there is more that can be done to improve it, but all the reasons for and against separating it originally, combining it, and separating it again were given. Continuing to argue it, and in some cases possibly attacking devs over it (general complaint due to things I’ve been seeing more recently when devs actually try to communicate and are effectively being punished by the community over it, not directed at poster in quote), gets really no where. 4+1 vs 4+1 is fair.

Unparking your cpu cores seems to work for older games like these, especially since GW2 mostly uses your CPU, not GPU.
That isn’t true like it was at release, at least the way many people throw that phrase around, like back when ~45% gpu and nearly 100% cpu was common for a number of people, because their cpu was weak and gpu overkill for that computer. GW2 actually runs fine at 30 fps, but of course we all would like more. 15-20 fps for a big zerg fight happens to most people, which again, fortunately it is still quite playable at that, although when you expect much higher can definitely understand the frustration.
Normally, GW2 won’t be hitting 100% total cpu usage, and most likely won’t hit 100% on one of the cores. Also probably won’t hit 100% on the gpu with only gw2 running. Is any core hitting 100%? Your #’s are what I would expect for usage, for only gw2 running.
One thing I am not sure if it is still true at all, but that I last saw stated a year ago, is that GW2 tends to run better without overclocks and running only on single gpu.
See if any cores are actually being parked, and if so, try what Zaruna said, to unpark the cores.
As I said, we are not going to be able to reach an understanding on this. I cannot understand why you’d have to make a reason to play a game, why you’d need a logical argument to do so. It’s a game. A person plays a game for the enjoyment, for the pleasure of doing so. That is the definition of a game, that is meant to be the reason to play a game, because it’s fun, because you like it and want to.
How about putting it this way then. In general, a person should play a game because they want to, not because of a title, or to justify prior time spent playing that or a prior game, because that can and does lead to a loss of enjoyment. If the person doesn’t play for enjoyment, I would have to ask them why play then, because it doesn’t make sense to me to play something if you don’t enjoy it.
But the whole point, was that this should not be something to destroy the fun of playing. If a person isn’t playing for fun, isn’t playing because they want to, as I said that I cannot understand, and again we’ll just agree that we won’t reach an understanding on this.
All of this is getting far away from this thread however, and there is no reason to continue it. Phrase is agree to disagree. You have your reasons to play, just as everyone does. People quit playing for different reasons. I’ve taken breaks at times, too.
Either way, this gwamm and skin issue is being decided how to proceed by anet, and we have to wait it out for the fix.
Fall damage is based on %. Whether you have 11k health or 30k health, whether you have 1800 armor or 4000 armor, the same fall distance will do the same % of health loss.
You are missing my point. Tenuous to play gw2 because you played gw1 is not what I was saying at all. I started playing gw2 obviously because of gw1. If this alone, this title bug that occurred, is what decides whether or not you play, that is the problem. You should play gw2, because you want to play it, and if you want to play it, this shouldn’t prevent you from doing so. If it is, step away and come back after a while.
Put another way, you don’t play a game for 6 months just because you played it the prior 6 months. You play it because you want to, because it’s fun, because it’s a game.
Hopefully that is clearer, but idk. It’s late, I’m tired,
I find it a bit curious that you say that about wants, enjoyment, reasoning, all in regards to playing a game. A game is meant to be enjoyed, not played just because it is reasoned out that one should play it. I don’t think we’ll reach an understanding on that point, but hopefully the other will be clearer?
snip for space
The only reason I ever wanted to play GW2 was because of the time I spent in GW1.
I feel this bug is devaluing the 10,000 hours I spent in GW1 right now. Arenanet’s actions involving this is going to be the deciding factor of whether I come back or not.Pretty valid reason if you ask me. The people here complaining aren’t brand new players with this issue being the deciding factor on if we stick with this game or not. We are veteran players, who have spent both time and money on both gw and gw2. I bet i can speak for Torvarren when i say we had a lot of fun on both. But not only is our time/money spent trivialized it’s also restricted and they have put the issue aside.
If it doesn’t affect you, that’s great, but it kittenes some people off. You might not understand why, but then why are you here? If you got the title without earning it, cool, rock it while you can.
Oh trust me, I’m not happy at all about GWAMM being available to some for nothing. I have full HoM, I have GWAMM, I’ve posted earlier in the thread.
My point though, a person should want to play the game, especially coming back to the game, because they want to play the game, not because of time spent in a prior one. Sure, that gets you to look at the game, can get you to buy it. But if this is the limiting factor, then it’s in effect a tenuous reason to play. Investing more time just to justify prior time that was spent doesn’t generally end with you enjoying it. Play because you want to play the game. Gaile has said twice they are working on a solution. There are a lot of things they have to consider, and there is risk with however they handle it. What I expect is the titles to be stripped and effectively re-linked with the account. The skins are a bigger issue to deal with, and personally, I’m less concerned that people have access to those, and originally that is all I was getting HoM filled for before GW2 release.
I’m not trivializing anything. But no one should decide whether or not to play a game because of one title. You play it because you want to, or you don’t play it because you don’t want to. Making it about that, is going to have a negative impact on the game regardless of the outcome.
I haven’t logged in since this bug hit. I am waiting for the fix to decide whether I want to come back or not.
You could be waiting a few days or you could be waiting months. If this is the reason you aren’t going to play, then I have to ask, what is the reason you want to play?
I like how the “How to Address Lag” post is basically a non-answer dodging questions about the lag. It has nothing to do with my connection or thousands of others with more than sufficient connectivity.
Just because your connection is supposed to be ‘more than sufficient’ does not mean that your connection isn’t at fault! It doesn’t matter if you have a direct connection to an internet backbone or are 1 mile from the servers. Even if you can 100% rule out every possible situation involving your computer, your home network whether it is wifi or not (hardware does fail you know, including modems, etc), the cable to your home could be at fault, or your isp, or the isp they connect through, or etc., etc.,
It is NEVER clear cut, ‘I have 500 megabit cable therefore I can NEVER have any sort of lag.’ I’m sorry but you share that connection at some point with everyone else in your area. That area could be just a corner of your city, or nearly half your state as mine is. Nevermind if you use wifi, and the things that can interfere there.
Does anet sometimes have issues? Yes, and this is to address those issues. But the suggestions on causes of lag have a very good point, because sometimes, it isn’t Anet’s fault.

I would just wait until they say it is fixed. All that was stated in the patch notes was that a client crash was fixed. Additionally, the dev only stated they were investigating it earlier, there was no way the fix would be out yet. It may take time to find and fix, and they will have to test it before releasing it as well, in hopes it doesn’t break something else and actually fixes it.
Hmm, if it really is only with youtube, it may be a driver issue, but more likely a combination of both.
well, hate to be the bearer of bad news, but eventually the problem will return and it will be worse. However, ensuring air flow, blowing out dust, etc., may prolong the life. I use SpeedFan to monitor and control temps and run mine a bit more aggressively than the default fan speeds would (because I don’t want to see 80C and don’t like it at 70 either). I don’t know if Nvidia lets you control the fan speeds at different temps in it’s driver or not, or if it’s just a set one speed and that’s it thing like AMD.
This is one of those… well Kitten if you do, Kitten if you don’t situations. Anet gets told they don’t communication enough. Dev comes and talks openly and candidly about the situation while working on a Saturday on a Holiday Weekend… Why? Because they wanted to monitor the situation in case an issue arose. And it did. Player feedback helps find the cause. And now plans can be put forth to fix the issue once and for all. Are these not good things? So why come out and attack a Dev that is #1 doing their job, and #2 going above and beyond what is needed to communicate.
Thank you for your effort, sorry you get to see some of the worst with their awful attitudes.
Usually that is fixed just by closing gw2 and reopening it. My isp does the same thing basically, but I think it’s a little different. However the trading post has worked fine for me, and that change shouldn’t affect it anyways, anymore than it would affect you going to any website (since that’s all the trading post really is).
edit: I don’t know if clearing the gw2 trading post cache would help or not. It may. There was a dev post that said how to do it somewhere…

wow… umm… the freezing is your video driver detecting an error, and possibly not resetting itself properly. The following picture though, is far more serious. You better check your card temps, drivers, etc. Something is failing with your system.
(and unfortunately, it looks like it’s probably the video card :/ )

Dear Anet
Is this the way you honor the people who died in the planecrash in the alps
I’m sorry but if Anet, or any company, does anything around any accident or tragedy, we wouldn’t have a game to play. Think about it. How many people are shot in a day? So no guns in game then. How many people are involved in wrecks? So no vehicles of any kind. Planes? occasionally they crash, usually through human error, sometimes mechanical failure that wasn’t caught. So there should never be anything remotely like planes either, because somewhere there was probably one crashed recently.
Oh and there shouldn’t be crab toss activity because someone had a heavy object thrown at them. Well there are cliffs in game and fall damage, those too should be removed because someone fell…
Somewhere, sometime, you just stop with this line of thinking. Yes there are things that can be done in poor taste because a tragedy happened recently. But at the same time, you cannot, and should not, plan everything you do around an event somewhere in the world because it might offend someone.
Lower your master volume and up the other sounds to compensate. The airplane noises are tied to it. ‘Problem’ solved.
Again, the graphic effect that you see on Post Processing at High is Sepia effect. On Low it has a bit more of a flashing effect, and not quite so pronounced on the color. With Post Processing off, you don’t get the graphic effect at all.
I want to say that I’m amazed that so many don’t know what that is, but I’m not.
It will be gone April 2nd, and no, it was not a day early. Server time is based on UTC. That’s why the daily ‘reset’ happens when it does as well.
As a Christian, I find the new bug highly offensive – everyone seems to be stuck in a crucifixion pose, and there appears to be no way to disable this. Even worse, I’ve heard this might be intentional.
Please remove this from the game, as I’m sure other Christians are offended also.
I’m offended that you think it’s a crucifixion pose.
And wow, all those children that pretend to be an airplane, how horrible they are, right? (please do insert sarcasm, because it is intended)
You can turn off the sepia effect by turning off post processing, without having to turn down any other graphics.
Additionally, this should not be in bugs as it is not a bug. It is most definitely intentional.
No, it is not fair that some got GWAMM with no effort. It’s a bug from something accidentally left in the client. They locked it down for now, they are aware of it, and are deciding/working on what to do about it.
Some know how much effort that title was in GW1. Some don’t care. That’s fine.
I played gw1, I have that title, and yes it does tick me off that some got it with no effort. Does that ruin my gameplay? No, it just aggravates me, and makes me wonder, “Did that person earn the title they are displaying?” Is it ‘ego’ that I have that title or choose to display it? No, not anymore than anything else in the game is ego to show off, or accomplish. And, for some Guild Wars 2 is Fashion Wars 2, as much as Guild Wars 1 was. Sure, I jokingly call it that at times, but that is what the game effectively is to some. That is their prerogative, as much as it is someone else’s to not care about the title, or cosmetic upgrades, or legendaries, or pvp, or pve, or whatever.
But that doesn’t give anyone else to right to bash those that are upset that some have the title that they didn’t earn.
You know, This attacking needs to stop.
I would take a stab at how many hours logged and Gems purchased!
That was already debunked numerous times, since some people that have spent almost nothing in gems, other’s second accounts, still others quite new players.
It’s RNG. Not everything is a conspiracy.
calm down, we all will get a chance, they did say there will be an open beta down the road.
That, there will be other closed, as well as open betas, and this is just a stress test. About all it accomplishes from the player standpoint is leave you wanting more. But it is putting a larger test on things Anet wants to try to stress/break while hoping it stands up than they can do in house. Went through all that the stress tests before release of GW2, you aren’t missing a lot except feeling left out.
Based on the info I’ve seen there is no consistency between who got in and who didn’t. Which makes me think the only condition was that you had to sign up for the newsletter. After that it was completely random.
Sign up for newsletter? What newsletter? HoT newsletter? Nope never signed up for it.
Selection was random afaik. It couldn’t have been based on amount of gems, because I was chosen, and there are definitely many that bought more than I did. No, it’s not a conspiracy like that. Perhaps time spent in gw2 could have influenced, but idk since new people apparently also got it. So I’d say random owners of GW2.
It’s just a stress test. I mean, how much are you going to get to look at in 2 hours? or even 4 if you get to hit both. They are wanting us to test the underlying system, possibly primarily the new integrated beta system itself, to stress it and see how it stands up. They are likely to make some changes to it between the 2 tests to see if it handles better on the 2nd. In addition it gives a few more people a look at Revenant so far.
as Gaile said, there was not a ‘free world transfer’ from beta. There were free world transfers for a while, but it isn’t like there was a ‘ticket’ or ‘coupon’ you got to redeem years later. Unfortunately you missed out on the free transfers, unless you did indeed delete all characters. That does work, but you have to go through the motions of transferring your character as if you were buying it. From the char select screen, you would click on World Selection, then the world you want, then click transfer.
Why not just attach a name to the siege, that way there is no guessing on who dropped it or false blaming someone else/guild? That way it’s easier for people to get called out on it and easier for Anet to track down as the person who dropped it will get reported much quicker.
you mean easier to falsely accuse people of wasting supply on ‘regular’ siege or yell at them for ‘poor placement’ even if it was a very good placement at the time it was thrown?
…. this is exactly what I was afraid of when the camera change was announced. I’ve just been semi-away lately so hadn’t gotten around to testing the camera with it.
Either lock the camera while on siege to explicit preset fov, etc. or better yet prevent wvw from the new camera changes, and punish those that ‘unlock’ the camera via any method (I know some of that was done already, the punishing aspect, but now it’s allowed?)
That or just fundamentally change wvw because with this, basically now everyone is zoomhacking, and it’s allowed by the client now…
Well, now siege has to be fixed to not allow this. I don’t think it’s fair that anyone can easily see what the defenders are doing inside either, but change siege, or I’m afraid many may be done with wvw… and I couldn’t blame them (all that would be left to have fun with due to the recent changes is small time roaming and that’s hard to get anymore) and I guess I will just continue to be semi-away and hope things improve, because this is disheartening. I’m hoping Anet will address this in some way, (as well as the gwamm issue from those that don’t deserve it, but that’s a whole other issue, but at least it’s already been stated they are aware of it).
Waiting for more official response on this and what steps can be done to address it.
Couldn’t Anet make it so you can only drop rams in a “X” radius of gates in the first place? other siege would be harder but at least other siege wouldn’t be completely useless
As has been said countless times before, flame rams have other uses than just smacking gates. If you want to limit how players use siege, then just do like siegerazer, smack a tower, ring pops up, you wait to ‘cap’ the ring and then siege appears, build it, ram a gate. Yet some people are going to think this would be a good idea too >.<
Kindly tell us what other use a flame ram has, please?
I like how I said something in a general sense to the whole thread and 1 person acts like I called them out and attacked them, (no not you Doll Mistress, but a bit above). .
On that subject, never underestimate the lengths to which people will go to troll. If anyone can remove any siege I throw down, what incentive is there to defend anything if someone is just going to come along and tear down my work?
As to what I quoted above: As someone else said, iron hide on lord, also can be put at the top of stairs for the iron hide and knockback. Or if bored, you take a camp for supply, you set up a ram in the middle of the field, and you knock around the rams with a ram. Why? Well… why not ask ‘Why not’?
If the suggestions are to prevent any creative usage of even 1 type of siege, then why not just prevent all creative uses of all siege? Why are we even able to throw siege at all? Why not have it set up in explicit locations, like with siegerazer then. Which… his ram still is bad. Catapult behind a gate, or a treb, so that it can only hit the gate is creative. Kinda sucks when every single tower or keep is defended that way and you wanna take it, but it’s hard to argue that it isn’t effective.
What about open field ram in a fight? 50 people just got iron hide for 5s. Well timed that could make a bit of a difference. Niche use? Definitely. Why prevent people from trying it though? It’s been done and worked, and it’s also failed miserably.
suggestions to add names, allow siege removal, etc.
Adding names would invite pointless trolling of innocents, allowing siege to be removed would invite hmm shall we call it ‘anti-siege trolling’? Only ‘commanders’ can place ac’s? lol. Do you know how many people have commander tags? And how is that stopping anyone from trolling?
Actually, I’m not going to waste time countering all those other ideas I’ve seen posted. So many are purely bad, were already discussed in a thread with a dev, and they were beaten to death with all the reasons against them. Many of those changes would not help WvW at all, and would in fact ruin so much, and make it even more stale… unless I suppose you are in T1? maybe T2… which if so, I’m sorry, but not everyone is up there, nor do they all want to be. (I would imagine even up there, and in some cases especially t1/t2 some of these ideas would be as bad if not worse).
As I said before, and will keep saying on this subject. Consider it from all angles, if it can be used by trolls to do even more trolling, or as much as they can now, what is the point in doing it?
“The ‘cure’ should not do as much harm as, nor more harm than, the ‘disease’”
Couldn’t Anet make it so you can only drop rams in a “X” radius of gates in the first place? other siege would be harder but at least other siege wouldn’t be completely useless
As has been said countless times before, flame rams have other uses than just smacking gates. Do GMs ever do their work while “offline”? I ask because last night I saw GM ProHeals go offline and about an hour later, after 9pm PDT, a flyhacking uplevel mesmer on FA that has been reported multiple times all week was seen flyhacking right in front of everyone in EB.
Yes of course they do. GM ProHeals doesn’t go online often afaik, just when he wants to be visible. They most certainly do work offline, and in fact most of the GM’s are hidden completely and never show themselves to any player.
You see someone doing that, report them as botting. If it doesn’t seem like it’s getting resolved, the GM has said to send a mail and will look into it. I would make doubly sure it’s the right person. Only problem is that they must see it themselves to take action, so it can take a bit of time, but they will be watched.
No one is arguing that troll siege wasn’t thrown. My point was to say that the so called easy solutions only open up more issues and even more trolling of innocents.
GM took action on the one that threw siege. What do they go by? What they see in person, and the logs. You know, the very thing the GM is being told to look at… No I wasn’t there, but what I am seeing is a bit silly.
This whole troll siege naming thing was argued to death multiple times. Rams have other uses besides being on gates. Granted placing them around a supply depot is a sign of trying to waste siege, but even this has legitimate reasons at certain times (example, when trying to remove supply from a keep before it flips, although personally I have used ballis and trebs for this)
Additionally, I rather would not like the idea of my name plastered all over siege. What if you accidentally throw siege wrong, because you were in a hurry at the time? Now, you have people yelling at you for placing it poorly, calling you a noob, telling you to learn how to throw siege properly. Or, you only had regular Arrow Carts and used them in an attempt to defend a tower, and now your server is yelling at you for not using Superior siege, even though if you had not thrown the regular that tower would be lost? These are things that ALREADY happen, and having a name on them would make it worse. If I was in there and wanted to defend, but knew people would do this, I wouldn’t bother. This would open up even more trolling, because it would give people an easy target.
btw, screenshots, etc, while it can be used to show actions going on, are not what Anet would use to ban someone. They use chat logs, and in game behavior. mumble/ts/vent are all outside of the game, and therefore outside of their jurisdiction.
Multiple people have had this happen. Often it’s related to windows updates and/or overwolf updates, oddly enough. I’ve had it once or twice. Sometimes it can take a reboot, or at least a log out from windows to allow it to work properly again.
Wish knew what directly causes it, because about once a week it hits one of my guildees.
I believe this was stated almost a year ago to be working as intended. They increased the chance for what it can drop from it I think the April Feature patch. That I know is about when you got a chance at an item to be slightly lower level than what you throw in.
Anet has already stated multiple times, report as botting and they will investigate.
emailing exploits@arena.net is for informing them of exploits, not about reporting the people doing it. Customer support is to report the people, and notifying via reports is more useful to them. Hopefully we’ll get a way to give more information than a generic ‘botting’ but right now that is what you use, and it does work. It may take days. There are some other ways to contact, if action isn’t being taken. I don’t think I can explicitly say it due to forum rules, but one of the GM’s has asked for people to contact him if they have concerns not being addressed in relation to hacks/exploits. I know the posts are around here somewhere.
