i played 3 matches yesterday… all of them 4v5 (except one where it was 5v5 but 1 was afk)
funny that none is able to give a serious reason to play 8 team tournaments, not even ANet…

it has been already discussed, QPs should have been an entry point into them, but looks like they have changed their plan… we must hope they did it for better

just a serious question…
why should someone play 8 teams tournament? it takes more time between matches, more wait time before all 8 teams get into queue and lesser rewards because old paid tournament rewards are now in 2 team tournament…
so whats the reason behind the scenes? why ANet think we should play 8 teams tournament? what roles are both tournaments supposed to have? i though 2 teams will be for soloers and “not enough time” to play players and 8 teams tournament will be for premades with huge reward for THE WINNER, which compensate the time spent for it and skill needed for 3 wins in a row, but that didnt happen… so im a bit confused what to think about it… :/

and the fact that players on higher rating should gain more glory or rewards overall because their wins are just more worth is another problem, rewards overall are wrong solved and needs rework, but about it in another thread, if you are interested
In beta you could have those slots. But then they shoved all the stats into one item. (your amulet)

bad thread, only complains about solo/duo queues and no exact solution has been suggested…
how would you want to do it? let solo players to play only against another solo players? if yes, what to do with duos? how you will make a 5v5 match from duos? only way is match solos/duos together… and if you do, will you discriminate friends who are 3 and dont let them play together? and if you dont, who will you match with them when you need team of 5 and solos/duos are separated? this is too complex problem, its not only “implement solo/duo queues”… and this becomes much harder then you take 4 player teams, solos dont want to play against team, but how you will get team of 5 from 4 players? they just need 1 solo player to match with them…

they already said they move rating to the top tier of their priority list, custom arenas dropped lower obviously
we dont have many features which are important, not only custom arenas
diminishing return on multiple targets is a good point imo… but if they would add it, they would need to improve the dmg of some AOEs, at least some smaller which are quite hard to hit, to make them almost as strong as single target in 1v1, but weaker in team fights then they are now
got 1v1 with ranger in WvW today… he goes underwater when he was losing… then got downed… then his pet ressurected him against all my dps even when i used sink on his pet

the rewards are to differentiate those that spend more time in the game.
how else would you reward those that put the most time in?
at first, PVP isnt about spending time for a reward… PVP is about spending time to get better and then win for a reward… that is how it should be, not like how it is now…
i hope they will change the reward system, this is terrible… they took all the grind from PVE part and spit it into PVP, kinda sad… we got all the same equip to have a skill based game with farm mechanic rewards, too ironic…
matchmaking is making teams from players, then match them with other teams for tournament… you cant change team when it is already matched in tournament just because one player is ignoring invite…
the more i think about it the more i’m sad how this “ended”
SPVP needs more then just hidden rating in paid tournaments to be good

i agree with OP, WOW’s arena system and its reward system were best part of its pvp
if we could combine it with only cosmetic rewards and combat system from GW2
add game modes from both, like arena deathmatch, conquest, CTF etc…
and we would get the best pvp game imo
agree with OP, orb neutralizing the point is bad idea, its like a godlike buff, not a flag to capture… no need to think before capping…
i dont think we need GvG, but some sort of GvG style map for standard 5v5 rotation could be nice

i mean really focused on defending/killing Lord
aswell as CTF or TDM, sweet memories are from WoW… why we cant get WoW pvp system with GW2 same-items-for-all and playstyle? i really like GW2, but spvp overall is just a big fail

Banners CD starts immediately upon being planted.
Spirits CD starts immediately upon being planted.

when you are that worried about your personal rating, you shouldnt play RANKED matches with anyone else than with your main team

drazzar: all rewards are based on rank, not on skill or anything… so rank really means something
ofc its cosmetic, but its the only reward/progress in spvp
they really need to do something with it… some skill based rewards, not farm based…
i agree with mr. Sharp, separating solo and team queue completely would be bad… + it would discriminate anyone else then solo and 5man team queue, how about teams of 2? or 3?
best solution is to implement algorithm which will match only limited team sizes against each other, e.g. soloers vs team of 3+2, team of 3+2 vs team of 5 etc…

have you any plan for rewards? i mean, when we wont know our rating, it sounds like having rewards for 1500 rating, 1600 rating etc isnt possible… do you even plan to change actual system of rewards?

i hope its invisible due to testing, not as final state… because ladder and rewards should be focused on rating too and if it wont be visible, it wouldnt be possible
sounds interesting… just add “falling” state the same way as stealth and when someone gain this state, his first skill would change for something else, just like with thiefs stealth
many people here dont even know what is the purpose of hotjoins and try to make it a serious mode with matchmaking… its a bit funny

they want people to get used to the map and show actual meta game on that map
this will probably stop when patch will go live, at least i hope so…
i just hope they will add new reward system soon too, so it will be dependant on rating and not on glory farming like a crazy kitten…
anyway, this patch looks good and we are finally moving forward
i dont like rewards in this pvp system, so im looking forward to spvp updates along with new system focused on ratings… then i will look at rewards and think if they are appropriate…
nothing new that all eles are going some kind of Auramancer build or heavy water/arcane
nothing else is worth it… some eles traits really need rework
i was playing 0/25/0/15/30 for a long time but it still thing its some kind of heavy water/arcane build… now i switched to 0/15/0/25/30

i dont agree with removing of downed state… but i do agree with reworking of rally, its annoying as hell when in 5v5 you down 3 guys, they down you 2 mates, its 3v2 with a bit of help from downed ppl now, then some thief do invis-quickness-stomp in 2sec and whoah its 5v3… thats not fair…
i would add limit only 1 rally for 1 stomp or make rally working only when last player around die… or something like that

when someone begins to stomp while stealthed and then he leave stealth, stomp animation plays visualy from begin… animation should play whole time while enemy is stealthed and when he leave stealth, just display him, not start the animation, thats weird…
maybe this have something to do with your stealth bug, where game isnt able to render thief fast enough when he attacks from stealth…

what if someone have only 1 profession on their account and you would ban it? hm? so bad…
they need to balance them, so none is interested if they are facing more thiefs or mesmers or not…

and i just hope they will do it better then this one, because its terrible, if i dont count almost PvE system with levels, rewards itself are terrible too…
seriously, who is responsible for them? crafted armors from PVE lvl 30 for rank 50 in SPVP, ugly culturals (not all, but most of lower tiers are) for rank 80? PVE lvl 80 exotics as free tournament tier 2 reward? and when i look at the time needed to get on high rank, oh god…
and where are exotic weapons with particles? or even legendaries? rating and monthly/yearly tournaments offers so many options to give rewards a real skill limit on them, i hope you will implement it well and give SPVP players a choice to get really nice items aswell as PVE players can…

did you play GW1? i think expansion in GW is very different from expansion like in WOW etc… and they didnt say if they will do it as before or with some new form…
i think there are only weak traits and weak skills
every profession have at least 1 good build, but most other traits and skills are often almost useless… they need to adjust them
everything you mentioned for daily WvW doesnt have anything to do with WvW, very bad idea… its redundant to add PvE things to WvW achievment when they are already in PvE achievments…
Hi, did you think about something similiar to Opening of Anh’Qiraj in WoW in your Living Story?
If you dont know what i mean, it was kind of realmwise quest, where all ppl on realm needed to do something to achieve next step in story, e.g. gather a lot of something, craft a lot of something etc and bring it to NPCs for a small bonus (something like LA repairs)… when realm collected everything what was needed, story evolved and new dungeon was open on that realm

thief, as others say, they are taking ppl down too quickly, combined with stealth, seems to be a bit over the top…
mesmer, portal isnt seen that much as before, time warp is good, but usually you dont have full team fight in spvp, so its not that big problem imo… but what is problem is Deceptive Evasion trait, you know, something is wrong when EVERY mesmer get 1 trait (and its only tier 2), this trait makes shatters OP and mesmers overall survivability too…
or another option, go play free tournaments

I can’t blame anyone in here for the pessimistic attitude towards this “update”. My biggest concern is getting past the things he listed so some new content can actually be enjoyed, you know like maybe a DIFFERENT GAME MODE?
you know they cant do everything at once right? and if they are working on these few features, they cant make new modes at the same time… just be patient and wait until one thing is done, then ask another one
i just hope they will increase glory gain on higher rating games (when implemented) + they could increase glory gain for tournaments even more (not first win, but rest, e.g. 200/400/600 for free and 300/600/900 for paid)
yup, anet thinks this is a fps for some reason. casual people want set single map matches that penalize quitters and reward winning. instead we got hotjoin zergfest where everyone runs glass cannon circle zeros cap points and quits when the water map comes up.
go play tournaments… hot join is what it is supposed to be
not 1v1 please, its stupid… duel option is nice, but 1v1 as a real mode isnt…
i would go from at least 2v2 or 3v3 to 5v5
or what is more likely, i would go ONLY 5v5 and add it as a map with normal queues in random rotation…
separating players in more queues could cause quick death of some parts of spvp, just as paids
Compared to WoW GW2 feels like its still in beta.
it is ofc… WoW is 2004, GW2 is 2012… do you see the difference? if you dont count graphics etc, they had much more time to implement all those features and fix bugs
