people are not playing seriously in hot join
learn to fight and other profs skills there and then switch to tournaments if you want serious games
and find some friends to play with, its not funny when you solo join and your enemies are team of 5 people on team speak
even if they were the squishiest one, armor doesnt have extreme effect so even on not squishy target it would deal maybe 20-30% less? its still over 8000
thats more than half hp of usuall ele in one hit
edit: i mean difference between low and high, doesnt count player without armor, because that ele obviously were not naked

go play tournaments, i never realized why people even care about play style of other people in hot join… none takes hot join seriously, just dueling, glory farming, daily achi completing etc, but not serious play
my advise is pick a class you enjoy and master it
i support this, just pick what you really like, what you enjoy, what theme fits you
well, all professions are quite balanced so you can choose what you like and you will be able to do well with it
you dont want a pet class… so no ranger, necro is partially pet class, but not necessarily, he can be played without them, mesmer is illusionist and illusions are AI controlled, not sure if you consider it as a pet class
you want to be mainly dps… not many guardians are dps specced, its possible, but they are always a bit support/defense from the concept view so guardian is probably not for you
and here we go, remaining profs are thief, warrior, elementalist and engineer… maybe even mesmer and necro, depends on you
THIEFS are more single target, low support and very subtle oriented, biggest nuke in game, good noobstomper
ELEMENTALISTS are very aoe oriented with good support but they need to be specced properly to be effective, pure dps eles are usually not worth it because they die too fast without at least mediocre defense, anyway semi-bunker ele is a FOTM as he have very good dmg and surviv
WARRIOR just got some buff, he is a bit brute force oriented, can even support a bit, i dont know him well
ENGINEER is mechanical and alchemical guy with lots of bombs, turrets and elixirs, usually ranged only with limited access to weapon types, but he can use his special kits like flamethrower, quite variable class if specced properly
MESMER is an illusionary duelist, he is focused to single target dmg, but have decent aoe, very variable class, but not very mobile without specing for it, offers tons of utility options, he is a bit of noobstomper due to illusions which are hard for new players to deal with
NECRO is interesting, mainly condition focused, even aoe, transmuting condition to boons and vice versa, can even profit from conditions on himself, very survivable class
maybe im wrong, but this is my point of view, not very deep, but i hope it could help you with decision

Even though I doubt match making even works as it is, I think a rating reset would break it even further.
Maybe when a solo que is brought in there will be a full wipe.
i dont think there is a reason for full wipe, when you are winning a lot you get the boost to rating and you are matched with harder enemies, so you get even more rating when you win, you can bring yourself from zero to hero with not very long winning streak so it doesnt really matter how deep you are now
I am also leaving quite often when I see I play with pug vs team……sorry but I wont waste my time just because ANET isnt competitive enough to split it for solo players and teams….everytime I log off I can do food for me or other things till match is over so….
at first, you should die in hell!
on topic, im reporting those people for scamming, not sure if they can ever get some infraction, but i try it… they should definitely add some better leaver protection than just give them a lose…

Player vs Player, by definition, is competitive.
yes its fine, its for fun, for testing, for nothing, if you want fair match, go play tournaments, where at least you are matched using a serious rating and not randomness of who join the arena…
its not because of daily, its because they are farming glory in hot joins… and if they do it in tournies, they are just bad… this habit is in game since beta
matchmaking is fine, find some friends to play with
soloing is bad if you are not matched to team of 3 or 4… or just play until your rating fall down enough so you wont meet any teams or only VERY BAD teams
im usually playing with 2 or more friends with around 85% percentile and im ok, +-50% win rate with fun games, matchmaking works good
hot join is fine as it is, its not supposed to be competitive so there is no reason why you shouldnt be able to choose your team or even switch teams

what I find more annoying is skill queuing.. so many times I lose my downed 2 ability because I pressed 2 seconds before my death..

and if you mean a chance to drop, its variable… if you dont know how it works, it increases base drop of item… 1% drop + 100% MF = 2% drop… you can ignore that if you know it
Wow that’s genius. I wonder why no one ever thought of trying this against a 2 mesmer team. I’m thinking even 2 spirit rangers might be good. Or maybe 2 longbow rangers staying far away all the time hitting them with arrows it could be good because that would mean 2 pets for twice the power!!!

PS: im not sure about what teams you are talking about, nothing like 2v2 setups focused on 2v2 fights are not in this game so none could actualy think about it, not on competitive level for sure… maybe some duel like fights with your friends

I thought it was still 8v8 but noticed it seemed more zergy and looked at the scoreboard and it was 10v10.
so they increased number of players to allow spectators and players are regularly playing instead of spectating? oh god, such a failure
rangers pets should be able to do meal for you while you are playing! definitely!

now i know what you mean… but its supposed to be hard, there shouldnt be trilion of guilds (i remember this from WoW, everyone wanted to have their own guild, then all people complained they dont have enough players in guild for raiding), not everyone can have a big working guild, it just doesnt work like this… without friends or already existing guild from another game its hard to build completely new one, especially this long after the game started, dont take it personally…
your suggestion would ruin whole point of progress and limited access to guild missions, there is a reason why they are this expensive, just saying
you can still wait for another opinions, if any will appear
number of curencies is quite high, but as long as they are account bound and you can expand your bank with gems (or gold) there is no problem in storing them all in one place… at least i dont have a problem with it
and im not sure if that master token idea is good, particular tokens are meant to be spend on particular gear, something what is harder to get and thus less common and more valued now would become easier…
i didnt play GW1, but this sounds like a good idea, but im not sure if its possible to recreate all mechanics in GW2, you know, its another game with another engine and another ingame systems

do you see the point? none wants you to create a big guild, but more people just works faster and better if coordinated properly
you have two options…
1) get rid of small guild and grow your guild bigger or join another bigger guild
2) ask some bigger guild to cooperate and join it like an “aliance host”, play guild missions with them so you can earn rewards for yourself and keep your small guild as a friend house
you choose… but please, dont complain that something is too hard because you want to be in small guild

just a logical deduction from the team fights in SPvP and 2v2 mode in WoW
not really, you could say this about many profs… 2 DD eles using port+stun and then nuke… 2 thiefs with steal+backstab combo… 2 warriors with frenzy+bulls charge+100b (yes with 2 stuns you could maintain at least 1 full 100b and a part of second)… etc
but why not all 2v2 teams wouldnt be full glass nukers? they would be dead if someone survive their burst (e.g. in guardians shield, AOE knockback from second player, etc)
i was wondering why broadcast shows when someone is downed, why? he isnt dead, he didnt award any points and he can still win that fight or get ressed… why it shows downeds and not deaths instead? i dont think that downing someone is something what deserves an annoncement in this game…
just for sure, im talking about the list of downeds in the middle of the right side of the screen

well, after 1 year in 1 game, its still NEW mechanic in the world of MMO RPGs which lasts more than 10 years…
and no, its not more annoying, its less annoying because people learned how to ged rid of it (blind, stability, stealth etc or just nuke profs with low hp)
you are not only one, but majority of players like it
and even if they didnt, im not sure they would remove such a big part of the game just because its new and people are used to something else…

Or maybe leave it exactly like it is, with both bosses, but make it the 4th bonus fractal so we have some alternative to Jade Maw’s Solid Ocean fractal. Okay maybe there could be a slight reduction in trash mobs since this dungeon can take a while.
not really, low level fractals take maybe 10-15 minutes to complete? this dungeon is MUCH longer and harder, it would need huge nerf to make it faster or making fractal only from a final part
In fact, just make a fractal out of every 1 time event (when possible). Would stop a lot of crying when ppl miss out on an event. Karka event for example.

well, if team of 5 is attacking you, they really should be able to stunlock you and kill in few seconds, seriously, its team of 5 you know? 5v1! its dagerous to focus with 5 people on one point in SPvP, they deserve an advantage in that fight and you deserve to die
would be stupid to be able to hold 5 people more than few seconds even as a bunker

i agree with the change suggestion, this could bring focus into the game and make offhand dagger more CC oriented (as it already is CC oriented with Earthquake, Updraft, partially Frost Aura)
anyway, i dont agree with RTL 1500 range and 15sec CD, its just too much… 1200 range is what all other profs got, its reasonable, CD 20sec would be ok…
seems like a suggestion for whole new game or at least datadisk… anyway, some ideas would be great as new SPvP mode
interesting idea, you can look at it from two different angles…
1) MF is selfish and thus you should choose the players who you want to take with you carefully if you go to hard dungeon, BUT there is no way to inspect someone and going only with trustable people isnt the best way, especially to not very popular (read as harder to farm) dungeons…
2) they could make MF party wide, but not as a sum, but as a diameter to maintain the final value if all members would have the same amount of MF… anyway, i think it could be hard to implement

no it isnt, even developers said it, its completely different new game with just the same lore
and i think that some dev replied in another topic to something similiar, he said that they wont fully customize the UI, because it would need much more ressources etc… so they choose wisely what should be customizable and they are trying to make it simpler and good enough for everyone without need of customization…
Ranger Axe is almost comparable to the thief shortbow because it acts exactly the same, except oh yeah 1/3 to 1/2 the damage…
is there any reason for this? i always though my staff ele had lower dmg because its ranged and thus must have lower dmg than melee builds… but thief? he have 900-1200 range with shortbow and still outdmg other ranged builds without any problems and even some melee builds of other profs

mesmer didnt get any buffs few months ago, 3 or maybe even more, only small nerfs and bug fixes… why this post now? why you think NOW that he is OP? why not before month? or 2? everyone was too worried about ele that they didnt have time to post something about mesmer? or someone just cant stand he got owned by him? this is silly, they nerf someone and the day patch went live, people start crying about someone else being OP without any change in the game…
edit: oh i forgot they increased hp of pets and effect of signets, this affect mesmer as well, so he got even few buffs, true, sorry

most CCs in WoW are 10sec due to limit in PvP and usually without any cooldown, without DR they would be UNLIMITED… average CC in GW2 is … 2sec? and with solid cooldown on the top of it… and dont forget the fact that everyone in GW2 have heal and dodge, its not like they would be dead against 2 nukers in few secs while their healer is in CC… we dont really need DR

try to join sever with less players, worked for me today
before this change, dailies was just 1 match + 2 more matches due to 1 achievment which requires 3 matches, thats not what i expect from DAILY… now its a bit harder and seems to be ok
BUT the reward is still like it would be a cheesy easy, so reward with extra glory (and rank points) would be nice, at least until they revamp whole reward system to something inteligent and not glory…
dueling in The Mists would be cool
well, same goes for many thief skills which gives evade, would be too bad for mesmers and not fair :P
i see that if someone want to make their own tournament, they can spend some money for it, we can call it sponsorship… or if everyone from the players who will play on the server will give some gold (in purpose of training, dueling or whatever), it wont be very expensive imo
PS: they said from the very beginning it will be rented, you could expect it
gems were ALWAY meant to be purchased with money… gold purchase is second way if you dont want to spend real money and its very nice from devs, so the point that you cant get gold in pvp to buy gems is irelevant imo…
