I’d love for them to introduce the Great Axe, and Ranger would be a perfect fit for it. Next to that, it really depends on what direction the next Elite goes. I could see Rifle, dagger or Hammer being fun weapons.

Just in case you aren’t aware yet, you can convert the stats on your ascended armor and weapons to Viper or most any other prefix, relatively cheap and easy.

Crafting and Loot Drop systems seem to clash

MachineManXX.9746

As Khisanth said they included many ways to achieve the same goal so that players can choose how they want to do it.

In most cases I use drops and story or level-up rewards until a characters gets to level 80 then use Karma or WvW Badges to buy a set of level 80 exotics for them to use. Other people prefer to buy it from the TP, or with dungeon tokens, or to always craft their own gear (I don’t think anyone uses mainly dropped gear, because it’s too unreliable, but I could be wrong).

Of course there are exceptions. I had to craft equipment for my elementalist because I wanted her to use celestial stats and those aren’t available any other way. But in most cases it’s up to the player how they want to pursue their goals and that to me is both more convenient and more realistic.

I don’t see how this is confusing, unless someone doesn’t have much experience with role-playing games. As far as I remember (and I’ve been playing them since the early 90s) they’ve always included at least 2 options – buy from merchants or get it as drops. Until recently (games like Skyrim and Dragon Age Inquisition) crafting wasn’t an option, except in MMOs and then it was often a big commitment because you couldn’t max out your crafting skills and your combat skills, so it was something only certain people did. But it’s been in pen and paper RPGs for decades.

Those things are not in competition with each other. It’s all part of the “get it however you want” thing even if they haven’t really embraced that anymore.

My opinion is because I think they’re not embracing any particular method and I don’t know the direction that arenanet is pursuing with this game.

Most likely there is a limit to how long they could embrace a eclectic approach to game design and game play before continuing it became less possible.

I wish they’d pick a direction that’s more consistent with role playing because when I buy a roll playing game I very much wish to roleplay.

The direction they’re taking is the same one they’ve always had – giving players choices. This is never going to be the sort of game that tells you “if you want the best possible equipment then you must complete this 1 dungeon because that’s the only place it’s available”, they’re always going to have options. We’ve been told this since long before the game came out.

I don’t know why you think it’d be impossible to keep it going. Sure it’s a bit more work to create a crafting recipe for a new stat combination or skin as well as adding it to a drop table and/or merchant but they don’t seem to have had any trouble with it so far.

And I’m not sure what you mean by “a direction that’s more consistent with role playing”. To me that means offering lots of different choices so they’re not forcing all of our characters to be the same and we can choose what’s best for them (or us). My elementalist takes great pride in having crafted all her own equipment (except her daggers which a friend, my thief, made for her). My ranger thinks that’s pointless – it doesn’t matter how you get it, what matters is that it does the job. She made her own coat because it was the only way to get the style she wanted, but she found her gloves and boots and bought the rest (although I think in lore things bought with karma are given to you as thanks for your actions). If they both had to use the same method that would inhibit my role playing.

Danikat wins this thread. Explained perfectly.

I think some of you are making this a bit too difficult. It is very easy to track as you get additional 2% crit chance per vulnerability stack. If the target has 7 vulnerability, then you gain 14% crit. This goes from 1 to 25 stacks, so 2% to 50% added crit chance.

Its not even a change, other than the name. Once you have unlocked your skills, what do you do with your excess skill points? You either hoard them or spend them in the Mystic Forge.

With the expansion, the excess skill points will get a new name and you can do what with them? Spend them in the Mystic Forge, just as always.

I have 500 skills points - What to do?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nothing is really changing with existing skill points other than the name. As it is now, you can spend skill points on skills (duh) or use them in the MF.

They are just separating the two now. You will gain new skill points used specifically for skills. That’s all they can purchase.

The hundreds or even thousands of skill points we all have hoarded will get a new name but will have the same use. That use is, to spend on MF recipes just as they are currently used.

Basically, just separating the current, two use skill points into two, specific use points with different names.

Spending ALL of your gold...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MachineManXX.9746

MachineManXX.9746

If you have all your characters with ascended infused, then yes. If not, then don’t buy it. 5-10% extra stats is not a lot but is infinite times better than 0 stats and 1 skin.

The ability to change stats is almost useless becuase you can’t change the sigils. So everytime you change build and try to use the same weapon you will either be running with wrong sigils or just lose the old ones. So when you decide to change again you will lose the sigils once more.

I think you are missing the point of this survey. Eternity from the OP was just an example of something someone might want to spend all of their gold on.

The question is, is there anything you would spend all of your gold on?

I would spend it if it was something I really wanted. I mean, that’s the point of gold in the first place right? To buy what you want? You only really NEED less than 1 gold for just traveling around to way points and doing just about anything in this game will cover those costs. You made the money in the first place so you can do it again.

How can we changed WvW to prevent the blob

in WvW

Posted by: MachineManXX.9746

MachineManXX.9746

I think the real problem is not the blob in itself. It is when one world outnumbers the other so greatly that they can field a large blob and the other 2 worlds can’t field enough players to counter it.

So in my opinion, this conversation should really be focusing on wvw population balance. Blobbing in itself can be quite fun, especially when you run into other similar blobs. But an unbalanced server population takes that fun away, for both sides.

"No-grind philosophy"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MachineManXX.9746

MachineManXX.9746

GW2 simply does not have a grind unless you choose it. So many people keep talking about Ascended being a grind. You may choose to grind it out so you can have it NOW. But you know what? If you just play the game, doing what you enjoy, you can still get what you want in time.

I have 5 level 80’s that have all Ascended weapons, trinkets and backs. I never grind. One of those characters also has full Ascended armor and I still never grind. I just salvage all my stuff and refine when I have enough. I buy some of the lower tier mat’s from the TP when I need them.

With this game, its a mindset. If you really want something, you can set it as a long term goal and just play the game the way you want. You may be surprised how easy you can get stuff. If you have to have in NOW, then you make the choice to grind it out.

One of the reasons you can take your time in GW2 is the lack of a gear treadmill. That Ascended gear that I took my sweet time making will still be my best equipment for years to come. I don’t need to rush it, knowing that in 6 – 12 months I have to do it again when the next expansion hits.

I’m now working on a set of Ascended light armor. I won’t grind for it, not even for a minute, but I’ll have it eventually.

I can only play Charr characters. Humans and Norns are just too plain for my taste. Sylvari to “dainty” I suppose and Asura too cute. I do appreciate other peoples non-Charr characters, just can’t play them myself.

I have a Warrior that is turned into a mule and never see’s the light of day. I just got bored with him. My Guardian rarely gets played other than a very rare stroll through WvW. Not sure whay I don’t like him.

I do play my Necro and Ranger alot and Mesmer sometimes. They all just seem fun to me. All Charr of course. And I have no legitimate reason as to why I like or dislike any of my characters.

MachineManXX.9746

I personally did not really like playing as Caithe. It was interesting and different but not what I would have chosen, given the choice between Caithe or my own character.

Having said that, I do not have a problem with it. Everything in this game does not always have to revolve around me as a player. I fully expect there will be things in this game that are not 100% to my liking. I would also hope that the dev’s continue to add a wide variety of interesting content that I may or may not jump up and down about.

If some people enjoyed it, then why be selfish and want that taken away from them?

GW2 endgame is grind...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MachineManXX.9746

MachineManXX.9746

Where is the treadmill? It doesn’t exist.

I already mentioned it. Legendaries.

Exactly as necessary to the game as raid gear is to other games.

In other words, only as necessary as the player chooses. If there’s no mandatory grind here, there’s no mandatory grind in any MMO.

But that’s where you are wrong. There in NOTHING in this game that requires a Legendary. In other games, you must gear up in T1 raiding (which is a grind) to even get to see the next tier. It goes on and on. If you don’t admit that, then you are just trolling.

MachineManXX.9746

I like how people demand “Something has to change!” to suit their play style, when in fact, it doesn’t have to change.

1. No, There are already speed boosts in the game and there is no place in this entire game that require hours to run to. Exaggerate much? Seriously, quit being lazy.

2. Refer to #1. Some people like to re-explore with each character, why must the entire game change to suit you?

3. You are not “punished” for anything. LFG is Looking for Group. It means just that. It helps you team up with others who have an interest in doing the same content as you. What does this have to do with porting? Maybe LFG should also kill the final boss for you so you aren’t “punished” into doing it yourself.

Maybe not the only, but the most consistent about it the past few months. It was annoying in Mad King’s labyrinth too, the door events where you had to kill all remaining foes where everyone just stacked aoe and cleaved with melee weapons to wipe them out? Rangers consistantly knocked enemies out of aoe, even out of their own barrages.

I can only imagine they were facerolling. Literally facerolling across the keyboard. Not putting any thought whatsoever into what they were doing.

You do realize that most of what you were experiencing in the lab was the level up blast, right? Or maybe you are not quite as knowledgeable a player as you think you are.

Best MMO game ever

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MachineManXX.9746

MachineManXX.9746

What makes this the best MMO for me is that I can pretty much do what I want when I want without pressure to have a certain level of gear. Meaning, once you get exotic level of gear (which is easy), the rest is just for fun.

I do have full ascended armor and weapons, but that’s because I wanted it, not that I needed it. I slowly acquired what I needed to craft it and when I had enough materials, I crafted at my leisure. No pressure what so ever.

Other games you are pretty much required to grind out the next tier of gear every 3 – 6 months or so or you get left behind. It becomes a job that you get caught up in without even realizing it.

The lack of the traditional trinity though. To me, that is what really makes this game work and will keep players coming back. I don’t have to wait for a specific combination of classes to form up into a party or raid. Whatever it is, I can go run it solo, or with guildies or just any random person or people who also have interest in doing the same thing. Sometimes things go smooth, sometimes not, but to me that’s just part of the fun and randomness of it.

And while DPS is king for PvE, there is a lot of room for build diversity and different roles in WvW. Try it out sometime if you haven’t already.

So, EotM is the best way to level?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MachineManXX.9746

MachineManXX.9746

EotM is more rewarding simply because the way the players choose to play it. Its all about capping everything as fast as possible. All 3 teams basically take the same approach and avoid fights (in general).

Normal WvW would yield similar rewards if all 3 teams had the same mindset as they do in EotM. If each team in WvW just alternated borderlands, capping everything and avoiding fights, and then when everything was capped, rotated to the next borderland, it would be exactly the same as EotM. But that’s not how we choose to play regular WvW and so the rewards are not as plenty.
