Ran into a ranger that had a similar build recently exept she was using sword+warhorn and greatsword and healing spring at first I nearly laughed seeing her come for me with a greatsword (I play condition bunker) but quickly learned the b***h was simply impossible to kill and made good use of both leaps and blast in healing spring while still hurting me alot I needed to disengage in between heals both to live and to try and drag her out of the spring in the end we both stopped and just laughed before parting ways, first and only time this happend on a random ranger in wvw.

I don’t waste a slot for bloodlust or precision buff. Take 1 minute and you can get a full stack with 2 spare weapons.

You won’t after this new patch, if you unslot the weapons with the sigil you lose the stacks. you’ll however build them faster for weapons that have the sigils as playerkills will award 5stacks like in pvp, AI kills will give 1stack like now.

I’m with you on this, the advantage of bows is you can deal damage to opponents without being hit by melee but staying at range is very difficult in gw2 so regardless if you play a condition or powerbuild I think Sigil of Ice will be a very good second sigil to help keep them away the other sigil would depend on build.

This is the best 1 vs 1 build I’ve come up with and I feel that right now it’s quite optimal. I’ve used it in PvP and WvW conversely. Now, in 1 vs 1 regardless of your build you truly depend on your own skill + reaction time; that aside, what does my build bring to the table? An emphasis on damage matched with survival.

Survival factor: Signet of stone, bark skin, healing power, high toughness, a healthy amount of vitality, superior sigil of energy, lightning reflexes, signet of renewal, and don’t forget your pet!

Damage factor: Conditions + pet + well executed burst + your very own reflexes and battle intuition. My personal rotation depends on the enemy, but overall this ranger is quite tanky so I know I can lure enemies into a strong damage rotation.

A typical high damage rotation will be like this:
Entangle + wolf’s howl at the same time, bonfire on their location, plus serpent’s strike (for the poison) which will also place you behind them, followed by your wolf’s leap which should stun them, and some melee, swap weapons to concussion shot (from behind), followed by poison volley, swap to spider in case they want to escape the entangle’s immobilize so you snare them right away. By now your sharpened edges should kick in and you can set yourself at range in case your enemy decides to pull you into their own rotation somehow; this rotation (without entangle) should be available to you after 20 seconds, so if your enemy does catch you off guard and keeps you in melee range, swap weapons and drop bonfire, if you really need to you can use signet of stone and mitigate all the damage, or you can save it for an uh-oh situation, but I personally like to use troll unguent and mitigate most of the damage that way.

General advice as a ranger in a 1 vs 1? every action you take counts, don’t waste your skills in a useless rotation that your enemy can escape, you need to reel them into it, make them feel like they have a chance, be brave and risk some damage in order to force them to waste some skills on you, that’s how you add your flavor into the fray.

Disclaimer? heck yes, you’re fighting against some sturdy condition damage build? swap to Empatic bond, fighting that annoying hit and run warrior in a very open space? consider swapping your shortbow for axe/dagger, both your pets to spiders and your elite to RaO. The key of the build is in survival via signets, healing power, high toughness and decent condition removal; plus damage via a non stop stacking of conditions with a rotation with clever pet usage. I’ve had lots of success with it but success depends entirely on you, so best of luck!

Apothecary and healing power seems totally wasted on that though, no healing spring and no other regen application at all and not even signet of the wild so why the healing power? for troll? you gain 50h per tick for that might aswell go full dire or anything else than apothecary really.

Honestly that’s a good point, however given that full dire gear is a bit pricey for me to get, I haven’t had the chance to test with it other than in PvP. The benefit I get from this setup not only applies in 1 vs 1, I like to run with it in WvW and whenever I am in a group I benefit greatly from having higher healing power from the shared regen that you get in those situations, that’s truly the main reason I chose apothecary over dire. However if you do have full dire feel free to test my build and let me know how it rolls.

I’m pretty certain any regeneration you get from others is based on their healing power not yours, unless something changed.

Well then that’s news to me (and incredibly obvious now that I think about it). Now all I would need is to save up enough to get full dire gear and roll with it, but your suggestion as to use healing spring and signet of the hunt won’t be overlooked. After all this is the best condi-build I have and despite it being honed for 1 vs 1, it does really well in group situations added that I use more methods for healing power usage (shout build perhaps), I should be in a good spot with the apothecary gear.

I’m not saying you need/should change to a build with regen and wild, only that you need atleast regen and preferably wild aswell for there to be any reason whatsoever to invest in healing power otherwise it’s simply a completely wasted stat, as I said before you gain 50h/s for the duration of troll currently that is like, yeah you get the picture.

You could always stick with what you got now too and just use some mix of Carrion/Dire for the armor aswell would only mean more damage and more survivability since you’d increase your healthpool alot that way.

I’ve tried several variations of bleed builds similar to this, some things I think you would like that will give you even more burst:

Sigil of earth on the shortbow, it’s a few extra bleeds on the stack easily with the fast shortbow and this much crit.

Perplexity runes or possibly 4 perplexity+2 of any that gives 15% bleed duration even 3stacks of confusion hurt like hell with this much condition damage and it will also give an extra chance for high bleedstacks to no be cleansed or vice verca.

Perhaps put sigil of torment on the warhorn or axe for another extra condition again to make it harder for classes with poor cleansing plus an extra source of condition damage.

I always played this with sword though mainly to have the ability for escape when neccessary but then again it kinda is a “burst them fast or die” build in the first place so , yeah.

That is annoying, but I have something that annoys me even more. Whatever that trait is that gives your pets 25 stacks that increases all it’s stats, vanishes once you hit the water. Yes I know at that point you’ve changed pets, but still, why should we have to navigate around an entire body of water just to save those stacks. They should just swap over to whatever pet you have then get removed once either you or your pet dies.

it should be placed on you stacks on you that buff your pet so you should keep them until you die, in my opinion, I think across all traits and utility skills more emphasis should be placed on the ranger being the actual character that matters, boons and buffs etc should be mainly from and on the ranger and then placed/transffered on the pet with the right traits.

“Keen Edge” trait activates even if you don’t have Sharpening Stone on your action bar. So, you should replace that with something else.

I’m not completely understanding your point. Sharpening Stone lets me start the fight with 5 bleeds. I am pretty sure Keen edge then kicks in when the health threshold is reached.

It does, you will effectively have 2 sharpening stones with separete cooldowns.

I tried this almost the same as your build I always found using shortbow with sigil of earth to be way more effective because you don’t have much to sustain you in a prolonged fight so simply bursting and overloading them with bleeds worked way way better for me even people with good cleanse can be bursted like this and it’s absolutely brutal in the water where most opponents will bleed out in a few seconds, another little fun fact about that, if you do happen to get downed in the water your interupt skill will make the perplexity runes proc the confusion I’ve killed many people like this too xD

I did use many small variations of it I usually had more points in MM for the extra condi duration to stack the massive bleeds easier and the extra traits (spotter, pet condi duration) and also had rabid/dire trinkets for some extra health, it is great fun but you do quickly run in to trouble when outnumbered unless you can find a target to kill right away wich is very possible if you catch them off guard.

Yup Manekk,

I will use SPVP as an example but I find better survival with Soldier Amulet and 400-600 healing than Cleric Amulet pushing 700-1000 healing with 4-5K less hits.

For the record, I have messed with HaO using Dwayna runes and extending the duration via the Dwayna Runes duration/traited 33% longer/NM Line and you can almost keep dwayna regen perma up using HaO on the 20 sec RuT

You can do that with troll aswell due to the very long proc regen on hit from the runes, or do you mean out of combat purely with the 6th bonus? how long is that one again?

I always prefered having high health and armor with a low healing power regen over the high healing ones with lower health, I think the base regen of 130h/s is very strong as it is if using wild aswell you are already sitting on 200h/s.

Cause when you start your ranger you get to pick a bear pet as one of the choices it then works really kittening well to level your first levels with because bloody nothing at that level will kill it so they keep it plus it looks much better than all other bears and the cleansing probably sounds like a good group bonus when you are new, that is my guess but I have to admit I have not met a ranger in a dungeon group with a bear for many months.

If you want to use double bows for zergcombat I think you probably want piercing arrows rather than keen edge atleast, I would probably pick steady focus, piercing arrows, signet of the beastmaster/spotter and also healing spring instead of the anti toxin healing thingy, I think you should probably consider using greatsword instead of the shortbow for the mobility aswell or sword+warhorn, if you do that it would also mean dropping the carrion gear for berserker or if you want to keep the health more sentinel but berserker will serve you better I think since you already have a high health and armor.

Signet of rage doesn’t give epic stability, and most things that aren’t a signet don’t give passive effect, so nothing broken here. In fact RaO is one of the best elites in whole game overall. All boons from it (especially stability) are affected by boon duration and don’t get shut off the minute elite itself ends unlike so many other elite provided stabilities.

And not a warrior care was given, when you got stability comin outta your kitten … xD

Sic Em reveal issue

I haven’t seen this issue either. If anything, the biggest issue with Sic-Em reveal is that it requires a target. If you don’t autotarget (which a lot of roamers turn off), then it’s sometimes the most frustrating thing in the world just trying to click the thief let alone pop off the skill in time before it stealths away again. I’m sure everyone’s had that occasional issue when trying to use it. Then there’s the fact that you can’t make your pet rampage unless there is actually a target.

Keybind targeting, preferably to a mousebutton, of course if there are multiple enemies you might still need to actually click if he’s hiding behind his buddies but in most cases it will help to instantly regain your target.

As for the OP I haven’t used sic em much but when I have it’s worked like it should, haven’t noticed any reduced duration on reveal.

Only change on hunter’s shot I want is giving the ranger the 10s swiftness aswell as the pet, revealed would be too much on such a short cd attack like many already pointed out, however more skills in game causing revealed would be a good thing it can and is abused a little too much by certain classes and I don’t like how it works in gw2 at all and never have.

I pull a lot of condition onto my dog/cat all the time.

Some of the arguments here are so stupid that I simply facepalm twice.

Pet out of ranger for signet or renewal is not the games fault. It is you who sends the pet to the enemy. Just pick a ranged pet if you have such big issues with it.

Staying around in healing spring is not the same as “standing still”. The healing spring is a large field that you can kite around in.

I am always amazed at how many people can’t swap and manage pets properly. You should start out with ranged pets and then work your way to the most damaging ones.

It’s a simple argument and logical to want your utilities to always work not a stupid one, if even more funny you say this since it’s a complaint you had your self or maybe it’s only valid when you do it because you know how to manage and swap pets correctly right? so sick of this type of mentality here that everytime you don’t agree exactly with what someone says it’s because they can’t manage pets or fail at some other part of playing ranger, the warrior signet always works for a full cleanse why not the ranger’s? they have much better cleanse than us anyway, is it really so unconceivable to you the pets get out of range in a combat situation?

Signet of renewal is so close to being great yet almost always let’s you down in my experience, if you use it as an “oh kitten condition overload/immobilize button” your kitten ed pet is always out of range and it does nothing or if you swap pet to be sure it is in range, well then you know the pet will explode and you can’t swap it this needs to change it should either be a much larger range on it or infinite range and remove that it cleanses party the cd can also be reduced by atleast 15s in my opinion.

We could definetly use more active cleanses elsewhere too and something like the warrior trait http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mobile_Strikes definetly seems more appropriate for rangers to me than it ever did warriors.

Part of me would love this, because I feel it really suits Rangers aesthetically, plus it’s a huge combat advantage. However, it’d probably get us nerfed even harder.

That said, I love the idea of putting a short stealth on Signet of the Hunt. I would also appreciate a smoke field either via traps or pets so we can leap through for stealth.

I agree with you it does suit rangers, however I think this game needs less stealth not more of it, the ranger signet still has a long cd though so I don’t think it would be out of line like thieves and mesmers are who can pretty much stealth at will during combat wich I am totally against.

You can’t dodge sharpening stone, it’s not the 5 next attacks period, it’s the 5 next attacks that hit and I disagree very strongly with you because it does bring alot of damage you have to consider it’s being used in conjunction with other conditions and highly likely more bleeds from other sources, like i said it makes you able to burst like a mofo with bleeds.

No, you can dodge it like venom skills. Yes, it’s an extra source of bleed but the last one I would personnally use because it doesn’t bring a lot of additional damage…

Maybe it’s good in WvW vs unprepared players and because you nearly always have all yours CD but in sPvP…

If traited to apply bleed 66% of the time on crits, first begin a Barrage, at the beginning of Barrage activate Sharpening Stone (which won’t interrupt your Barrage) and watch 15 – 20 stacks of bleed appear in the blink of an eye. For 25 stacks throw down a Spike Trap. For sustained bleed use a Hawk’s “Lacerating Slash.” Bleed for daaaaaaaaaaaaaays.

It used to be nice with Barrage but it was nerfed.

No man you can’t dodge it, I am telling you the stacks don’t get used up if you miss your target, they’ll stay on you for the next attacks instead aslong as the timer doesn’t run out but that would mean you doing nothing for 30seconds cause that is how long it’s up, I can’t see it happening in that video as you described either I have no idea how you see that on those timestamps because it doesn’t show it and additionally I never lost the stacks myself if one of my attacks have been dodged, I do think however they get used up by blocks but I am not certain they do even then.

I use it for applying bleeds (duuh) it’s very good for bursting people down especially together with skills like splitblade or shortbow 2, I have no idea how anyone can call this skill useless I mean we have plenty useless kitten in both our traits and our utilities but this certainly isn’t one of them.

Even with an heavy condi build, it doesn’t bring a lot of additional damage.
Spike trap untraited is better even in a 1v1 situation, it’s an AOE and it’s unblockable.
If someone dodges your splitblade you loose your 5 stacks of Sharpening Stone.

But it’s not Ranger’s worst utility… Nothing can beat “Search and Rescue” and “Guard” untreated

You can’t dodge sharpening stone, it’s not the 5 next attacks period, it’s the 5 next attacks that hit and I disagree very strongly with you because it does bring alot of damage you have to consider it’s being used in conjunction with other conditions and highly likely more bleeds from other sources, like i said it makes you able to burst like a mofo with bleeds.

I can’t see a reason to use this or even slot this skill at all.

Probably need a redesign for something more useful.

You can’t have barkskin and empathic bond at the same time, having spirits follow you seems useless without spirits, spiders don’t have such long imobs even traited it’s kitten not 12s oh and no there is nothing OP about this several classes will eat it alive.

I meant you can trade bark skin and bond depending on who you’re fighting. I also meant to post 20/0/30/10/10 youre right i dont use spirits. As for jungle spiders immob, look at the tooltips. And what exactly can eat this alive?

So you plan to duel opponents knowing beforehand what they do? well ok then you can swap otherwise it will be impossible obviously, spider tooltip will be showing your extra condition duration without having it just look before and after eating food and you’ll see it, warrior will eat it alive bow/s+s does it with ease, that’s not to say this is a bad build I run a similar thing myself I know it’s strong but it’s definetly not OP.

..is that no one ever runs away from you! Anyone else notice this? I was roaming on my thief and it seems like half the people I run into don’t wanna fight and just run away but on my ranger, everyones game!

As for nobody wanting to fight you on the thief it should be obvious why really, I guarantee every single player in gw2 fought off a thief with their entire being focused and tense trying to accurately dodge and evade backstabs sweat pouring from their brows and dripping down to form a puddle on the livingroom floor, against all odds get him to 0,1% health a hundred times… then he runs away in stealth…

I want the invisibility attack to give me swiftness, the knockback to apply cripple and barrage to apply bleed aswell as have a shorter cd aside from that I kinda like it as it is.

Similarily in a group of players you will be targeted by everyone and first, hell if they have 10 players at 1% health when you arrive they will still all go for you.

I always facepalm when people say the ranger shouldn’t have a pet.

They don’t realise how much rebalancing, new trait and new skills it would require.

Who cares? it’s not my job I just want to be rid of a mechanic that increadibly frequently kittenes me off by not working properly.

a total joke what will you kill with 66 per tick anyway??? Theid need to put that condition damage bonus to 1200 and make it a grandmaster trait for the pet to even be effective as a cond damage

Just to clarify, that is 1 single bleed a cat will put up more than that with the bleed trait obviously, not that it will be superimpressive but it’s certainly alot more than 66damage per second overall like it sounds by your post

It is a nerf because you lose the power dmg pet with condi dmg specs.

Take a diamond skin ele and a shamans BM ranger. Since pets don’t scale off your stats your pet can eat through the diamond skin, which you could not do.

You could still have pets that have a base stat distribution like today and then get a percentage boost in some form based on your stats this way you loose nothing but gain a small bit of pet damage as you upgrade armor it would also make pets able to do decent condition damage based purely on your own armor instead of, well not at all as it is now (more or less)

Every time I see a ranger ask for pets scaling off our stats, I cry a little inside..Its like they don’t know they’re asking for basically a huge nerf to themselves.

Wouldn’t that depend on how they scaled? why would it necessarily be a huge nerf this could be done in a number of ways ¯\(?)

I disagree that you need offhand training. If your spamming your traps you won’t have a problem with cooldowns. The reduced cooldown won’t have any effect and oakheart salve will keep your regen up 100% of the time.

That said, I run almost the exact same build with celestial instead of apothecary and without the traps (but using offhand training). The benefit of a stun break, SoW and an extra utility far outweighs the extra conditions from the traps which will just get cleansed right away anyhow. With celestial you end up with 700 instead of 1200 condi and a whole lot more of everything else. Takes a month to farm out the celestial gear though.

Full set of dwayna will already keep regen at 100% combined with rejuvenation and nature’s bounty though, oakheart seems the least useful trait of all in this case.

Just a few things really..

Vipers Nest is generally considered the worst trap, especiall since rangers already have good poison options from sword and dagger. If you’re in a group fighting situation then of cause AoE poison is great, and it has a low CD so is by no means worthless, but I’d consider using the frost trap instead. Chill is amazing. You could also consider SoH for movement speed, or a defensive utility like LR or Protect Me, but thats up to you, just so you know you dont need to run 3 traps nessesarily.

Also I’d suggest condition duration food (especially since you arent using your precision at all). Its always worth it on my condition build.

And finally.. Consider Sigils of Geomancy or Tormenting, it will add a lot more to your damage than +10% bleed duration will, I promise.

I was going to say about this, about sigils though you could pick both geomancy and tormenting sigils as tormenting doesn’t seem to be linked to the icd of other sigils I know it works simultaneously with earth anyway worth testing perhaps?
