Very fun video to watch, it also shows one of my favourite aspects to trapper runes with longbow especially, you can chase down runners like there’s no tomorrow keep them in combat speed while running them down like a kitten cheetah xD

I’d also add that RaO is absolutely amazing with this build the stability really makes it shine against multiple opponents and with might your condition damage goes through the roof with a well timed drake F2, it’s simply much much better than entangled in my opinion especially now since the update when it can’t so easily be dispelled RaO always useful for you both offensively and defensively while entangled is sometimes very good and also sometimes completely useless there are too many blinks, stealths and other ways to get out of it in a split second a warrior with dogged march and food will just walk out or sneeze on the vine to make it shrivel like a raisin not to mention a single tiny blind will ruin the entire thing before it starts.

the point of entangle when running survival of the fittest is that it is a 48s CD, cleanses 2 conditions, gives fury, gives an immobilize, and does about 7k worth of bleeds. RAO is a great skill but that 120s CD is a joke and imo offers nothing compared to a traited entangle. Running entangle lets me avoid using the horrow that is empathic bond.

The immobilize part of entangle is the least important feature of the skill to me. You’re right that every class can get out of it almost instantly but I don’t care if they walk out of it 2s later. All i need it to do is land it so i get the bleeds on them and have time to drop a bonfire. After do that i can just sit and wait for them to keel over.

I know this and I think I explained when, where and why RaO was better in a tried and tested condi roaming build that works extremely well but perhaps you somehow missed that.

I do understand where your frustration comes from though because with the build you use wich is probably the most common condi build used in spvp wich I often play myself or the celestial version Jcbro made with shortbow and while it is fun as hell and you can skirmish away for days it’s really really hard getting a stomp off, fears, knockbacksstuns you name it there always something to ruin your day with xD

Nature’s Voice and guard is better for roaming, permanent or nearly permanent swiftness along with your tankiness is enough to escape and survive multiple enemies assuming you don’t get chain rooted but that would kill any rangerbuild against multiple opponents if you are alone, combined with signet of the wild and renewal you’ll have stability on demand for stomping with full dire or dire mixed with settler/apothecary you can just eat the damage while stomping assuming you are high on health, wolf fear also works if there are more than one aside from the downed or just condi bomb ontop of him while fighting the second/third it depends on who they are if you should fight or run but condition regeneration ranger can be quite amazing to roam with once you get used to it.

It’s diffrent characters, diffrent accounts again and again you will see this same thing, same runes, same amulet, earth/hydro sigils on a longbow usually no other weapon, grandmaster “forgotten” in wilderness and full spirit traits but no utility skills exept heal.

Arc Lightning. It is a constant … as opposed to a 2.5s channel that can be cast every 8 to 10s at most … so 10.5 to 12.5s. It’s not interrupted by their other damage which has no telegraph and simply smacks you in the face.

It also stacks with their abundance of ways to proc on-crit.

Let’s look back at counters to Rapid Fire:

  • Daze
  • Stun
  • LOS
  • Block
  • Reflect
  • Dodge
  • Invuln

Plenty of ways to mitigate Rapid Fire. We don’t need to add “move slightly to the side” to this list.

A buddy of mine was trying Dagger+Pistol Thief. He didn’t know what to do about Rapid Fire at first and died to it quite a bit. Then I pointed out to him that his #4 is an interrupt and it was never an issue again. Add to that that his Steal dazes and it’s even less of a problem.

Later he was trying Sword+Dagger Thief. He can still daze with steal every ~21s so roughly every other Rapid Fire and can easily LOS with intelligent use of Infiltrator’s Strike/Return.

Mesmer has daze via shatters and plenty of weapons also interrupt in one way or another.

Warrior has plenty of blocks as well as interrupts depending on their weapon sets.

… and the list goes on and on.

Complaining about Rapid Fire is like complaining about conditions when you don’t bring any condition removal.

At least it does its damage with a telegraph and over 2.5s from an interruptible channel. There are other abilities with no telegraph that do the damage instantly and from range.

I very much disagree. Yes there are ways to mitigate RF, but no build/class has access to even half of those abilities at any given time, let alone all of them at all times as everyone seems to be making it sound. In fact, given the short cooldown of RF, you are realistically only going to be able to counter the first RF, you then have to eat the second or dodge twice to avoid it, which then leave you having to eat all the rest of the ranger’s damage.

Im not saying that RF is the most OP ability in the game, only that it needs changes to it’s mechanics, and a damage buff, in order to balance it out with other high damage channeled attacks.

Yeah and guess what? you are not supposed to be able to avoid every single bit of damage in this game, seriously stop crying about this kitten rapid fire is fine and needs no changes there’s a kittening million ways to counter it wich has been pointed out over and over to you stop crying you moron!

I think that change would be a rather large nerf given how the meta involves large amounts of mobility. Now you’ve added “move” to the already sizeable list of ways to counter rapid fire.

There are plenty of other skills in the game that track just the same but can’t be reflected. Many are also channeled and allow the user to move while channeling them as well.

The Rifle probably isn’t as good 1v1 as the Longbow. Longbow does have both stealth and a ranged knockback which help considerably. The Rifle is better for being that shot out of nowhere in the middle of fights when you can’t keep your eyes on the warrior the whole time to see if he’s kneeling with his gun pointed at your head.

Or if he’s an asura in wich case you can’t tell the diffrence of any of his skills or movement lol xD

As I said in my own thread, I do not think any change needs to be made in the damage, RF could even use a slight buff in damage. The only change that should be made is to remove the ability to move while channeling RF. This change would bring it in line with nearly every other high damage channeled attack such as 100b.

This would kind of make it stronger, there are plenty of cases when you don’t want to move while using rapid fire one of those are when your target stealths wich is one of the biggest complaints we get about it, if it did more damage the complaints would be even worse lol.

You are all making some pretty big asumptions about my abilities. Yes there are ways to mitigate the damage of rapid shot (when it is used by itself) but they are limited when compared with other abilities of other classes, such as 100b. These abilities are even more limited when rapid shot is used in conjunction with “Entangle.”

And yes, actually, RF does track the target. Go and see for yourself.

And when did I ever say that my class doesn’t need changes? I called decap engineers abominations that need to be destroyed.

Wouldn’t you just aswell feel any high damage skill is OP if it’s bursted in your face while you are immobilized? 100b would be much worse for you if immobilized? yes it would, it’s the immob making you angry and in my honest opinion it shouldn’t stack duration.

They each get their own. Even dual pets (like white and black ravens or the two immob spiders) don’t share cds, it might look like their F2s share cool downs… but they don’t. You can still use the second one even though the cd from the first pet will show over the F2 skill.

Yeah it’s a bug with the interface showing petskills on CD I think, but they always used to work independantly anyway.

I can’t play longbow without read the wind there are plenty cases where I dearly want to put points elsewhere for a build but simply can’t unless I replace the longbow for something else wich is not what I want in the first place.

I use a similar build although I prefer running it like your zerg version only with full points in wilderness over survival and going with signets with celestial armor.

In your case I would consider using Mad King runes and also gettting the cactus fruit salad food I think it would benefit you more, since you also use greatsword it might work well to get barkskin over empathic bond if you swap to healing spring instead, the double leap gives you roughly the same healing as troll but in a burst heal with some added regen and condi cleanse ontop.

I have 3 rangers originally this was only because I like to make diffrent armor sets as a hobby and needed diffrent races and/or sexes, they have diffrent builds now one is my fractal ranger and the other two have diffrent wvw builds and armors basically if I want to change the style of play.

The F2 could be “I’m on a break” making your turtle crawl inside it’s shell reducing damage taken by 50% giving the turtle retaliation and reflecting projectiles lasting 1minute, your turtle will also be large enough that you can go sit inside his shell if you need to make a sammich.

I find it humerous that people using a new toy that a net gave them with the recent longbow buffs all of a sudden want everyone else to l2p and adapt their playstyles to counter it when before the buffs were the same people who cried that longbow just wasn’t good enough for them instead of learning how to use it and position yourself and use your pet to position your opponent etc. You say that the skill ceiling is so low??? You asked a net to lower it. And they did. And now you want everyone else to l2p. I say lol.

Again you can check my post history I’ve been playing power longbow since shortly after release. I am not crying for nerfs. I am calling out hypocrisy.

Well the developers didn’t agree with you and made improvements. Are you done stroking your ego and kitten. Tell me this did you enjoyed the time when players could strafe dance to avoid the projectiles from the longbow?

I enjoyed the time that it took some coordination with a cc pet, positioning and some skill to use the longbow. I know you play a lot of ranger cus I’ve seen you post on these forums a lot. Can you honestly tell me that when you play power ranger you don’t win most of your encounters?

I really only play my rangers and I win most of my encounters no matter what build I use I also win most my encounters on my:

Warrior (I don’t really know how to play it)
Mesmer (I don’t really know how to play it)
Guardian (I don’t really know how to play it)
Engineer (I don’t really know how to play it)
Thief (I don’t really know how to play it)

etc…

This doesn’t lead me to think I’m a natural talent at this, it leads me to think most players are really terrible and/or beginners they are also the ones that complain the most.

I can’t help but feel there should be a sticky detailing the uses of each pet class. This question comes up a lot, and unlike some other topics it’s pretty universally agreed by all experienced Rangers what each pet is good for.

I dunno, for some reason we still get the occasional person trying to argue that devourer is useful.

Read the wind doesn’t prevent anyone from dodging the attacks, it only prevents them from slowly walking 2 steps to the side to avoid them like they have been able to since before this trait, personally I don’t even think read the wind should be a trait that should be default velocity on arrows.

Oh okay thanks. Well I was around, kind of. I have been playing GW2 since release, but I’ve taken some breaks and that must have happened during one of them.

Anyways, I don’t see the relevance of the health buff to this subject….

Of course it’s relevant it’s a big increase in the healthpool so having your pet die is really really your own fault when it happens (not you personally the hypothetical ranger) it would really only happen if the pet is focused or in a giant blobzerg of aoe, in any case nobody is complaining rangers are too OP and can solo anything in pve without effort with this buff so I can’t see why it would be seen as a problem in wvw or pvp, would it make flipping camps easy? yes but that is already easy and any class can do it, soloing keep lords would also be supereasy but also that can already be done solo without effort if nobody defends.

Recharge penalty needs to go. There are too many encounters in PvE where if your pet is not a drake it’s gonna die.

It only gets worse in WvW.

Don’t you think that could be crazily unbalanced in some cases? I’ve always read the example of two rangers able to solo essentially all pve encounters when Anet tested adjusted pet mechanics, and the complete removal of the recharge penalty would enable that strategy.

It’s not because they are hard to down or defeat…its because they ALWAYS are running with 2 or more people backing them up. Talking WvW that is.

I despise LB rangers in WvW, because it promotes the ‘no skill’ mentality. I have seen probably 1 in 10 that can legit roam or at least hold their own. The rest…goes like this:

1. Rapid Fire
2. Barrage
3. Hunter’s Shot
4. Run around in a circle while invisible
5. Repeat

That’s right, never pull out the GS I know they have. Just spam LB and collect bags as the people around them do all the work.

Oh and to be somewhat on-topic…yes Rangers are in a lot better place than they have been previously. Could still use buffing here and there (SB for instance). But…I have a feeling Anet’s ‘attention’ will be ‘look staff!’.

Well to be honest if you don’t have to pull out the GS or wichever melee set you use you really shouldn’t or you’d be doing it wrong, the longbow does the most burst damage and it does it while taking the least in almost all cases.

Yes, taking the least amount because the user is standing at 1200+ range behind 4 other people. How again does that help the general population’s view of the class?

It’s ok though, extra money for me in the form of loot bags.

That mine cart is like 50% transparent when it comes to projectiles. You can’t walk throught it, but you can shoot through. Yesterday I had a downed 1v1 going on and the mine cart was between us yet we were able to throw dirt/rocks at each other. And it’s not like projectiles were only going through the edge of the object but rather the middle of the cart.

Not actually related to the OPs question but I realized the other day your own pet will obstruct you if he’s between you and your opponent when you are both down your oppnent will still hit you however.

You’ve got that backwards. Your pet can block an enemies projectile but not your own.

It might be some uncommon bug, usually your pet will not stand right in between you and another downed opponent I assumed I never noticed before because of that but I am not mistaken I was spamming the attack skill and obstructed message followed every time and we where quite close to eachother on even ground so I don’t see what else it could have been.

I know it doesn’t make sense but no pet related issue surprises me anymore in this game.

For leveling nothing beats drakes, they tank like champions while still having decent single target damage, cleave and massive burst in the F2 skill and they also grab aggro wich a bird or cat will not do wich just makes life so much easier while leveling up, if you also use axe I don’t think there are even many champions your drake can’t tank with ease.

Anyway, Entangle is horrible IMO. I do love when other Rangers carry it though…one quick LR and they just wasted an elite.

Or you just wasted LR. They’re on similar cooldowns, but many rangers only carry a single stun breaker or immob cleanser. Every now and then I’ll kill some noob with no cleanse at all using entangle, but for the most part I chain it together with a half dozen CCs to secure the kill.

Drakehound + MT is like the noob test for people that want to fight you 1v1. If they can’t get past 900 range without getting aced, well…

Might take a split second longer but a single maul will free you aswell.

It should be fairly easy if you fight against 2. Down one, send your pet on the him. Start fighting the second without your pet. Works exceptionally well when you got control skills. No stomping, though

This is the safest way I think, exept if it’s another ranger you have downed then he will likely get rezzed by his pet before yours can finish him, aside from that way it’s probably best to either stealth stomp or try to burn the downed from range I wouldn’t use defensive CDs to stomp anyway, unless you know the one/ones left are very easy to kill.

It’s a plant coming out of the ground grabbing on to anything in the area. It shouldn’t require "sight’’ or a “target” to continue it’s effect on players.

Since we are using fluff as arguments for balancing: Rapidfire should track through stealth since the ranger couldn’t possibly know where the thief is. Also, longbow attacks should be restricted to like 20 before you have to buy new arrows at a vendor. Rangers shouldn’t be able to carry unlimited ammo.

Seriously, if you still have problems with thief after Ranger was promoted to god tier, no amount of buffing will help you anyway. Are you also complaining about daggerstorm reflecting?

I’ll buy arrows, if my opponents die from the first hitting arrow since I placed it in their heart

This is one of the reasons I don’t like entangle the other one is that it doesn’t do anything if you are blinded I think it should place roots just the same just that the initial hit might miss but anyone still standing there or walking into them by accident should still get caught once the blind is gone.

In what way was it tested?

I ask cause keep in mind norn with/without speed boost run very slow in animation. Using signet of the wild makes you even bigger and you will still look slow after using sotw.

Now with that said, does sotw affect siege weapon dmg?

I did it in numerous ways the most apparent one is probably using the active of the signet and racing your pet to a mob… and see him shooting like a rocket ahead of your own slow kitten , but even just watching your character run it would be visible just by looking, I mean you can instantly tell if the 25% is on just with your eyes so how would you not be able to spot 50% then, I tested on both human and norn btw.

My pet got the protection every single time not only my pet I guarantee that my noncombat mini zuzu got it aswell wich made me giggle a fair bit, that said the last encounter was buggy as hell for me and it took me ages to kill the vortex crystals not sure if it had anything to do with pets or if it was simply buggy though but they wouldn’t take any damage even though I was getting the “fragile boons”

I would like to keep pets too but change it so they get increased survivability in all content but do less base damage the BM traitline could then boost them more than now and rangers themselves could have a small increase in base damage so the end result would mean the exact same total damage as now only the damage is focused more depending on how you build and pets would keep the exact same utility functions as now.

Yes I do believe it’s entirely fair because of the simple fact that there is such a high number of counters to both the heavy ranged damage aswell as the range of the longbow, if dodges, reflects, blocks, immunities and leaps etc didn’t exist the longbow would be OP but they do so anyone not using any of these things to counter a longbow ranger only has himself or his build to blame for not being able to fight back.

I honestly think QQ is directly tied to the number of players playing that class. Warriors got buffs way back, and for months it was nonstop QQ about warriors. Then hammer nerfs, trait nerfs, healing signet nerfs, warriors aren’t as common and nobody complains anymore. I have this theory that it’s the same with ranger, because lets be honest, they are the only thing around right now due to the recent buffs. I kill people with my shortbow and they call me a LB noob. I kill them with my sword and they call me a LB noob (actually happened to me). Eventually the fair weathers who came just for the patch will leave and people will complain less because the class will be less prevalent. This is so true, the exact same thing happened to me just yesterday or the day before that this warrior kept spamming the chat with “22222222 noob” like rapid fire was the only skill in existance and just likehappened to you, he said it when I killed him with my sword too xD

I’ve tested it on my norn and my human ranger neither gets any speedbonuses from this the pet definetly does the ranger does not, either both my rangers are bugged or everyone saying they get speed are simply mistaken.

Point blank shot is a perfect candidate for a charged skill instead of the current function the knockback and damage could be increased the longer you hold the skill before releasing it.
