I can’t believe people still cry about thieves. mug damage was nerfed, quickness was nerfed, heartseeker was nerfed. If you still can’t react to a thief ganking you, the thief is not really the problem. If they hit very hard with their berzerker initial burst, you can hit them equally as hard in the follow up moves. If you got killed by the initial burst then you are doing something wrong.
Guardian and thief always point finger at each other reagarding OP class. After I try each prof myself, I think WvW is only about 3 class atm, namely guardian, thief, and ele. The rest are expandable/redundent (not even mesmer is needed anymore).
For example, for a small group, you can have 3 thieves (2 offensive 1 support), 2 quardian, and 1 ele. This is all you need to wipe any small group with ease. If you need a zerg, just have this same setup x N. It can handle any zerg. This 3 prof can do anything other prof can do in any situation (with the right utilities/skills of course).
I run solo or in a small group (5 or less) daily since release. We fight groups of 20+ guys and we end up winning lots of those fights. Lately we stumbled into a new party composition that destroys stuff so fast while still keeping alive, it’s ridiculous. We do have a guardian, but normally no ele or thief. We tried running 2 or 3 thieves and while its decent and comic, its no where near as effective and easy as what we have now.
And what gives us problems is not thieves, eles or guardians either. Necros however…

[team] on AG do too. They attacked our 20 or so a few times and offered more of a threat than some 40 man groups funnily enough.

yes, we [tchu] typically run 2-5 (we are very rarely 5, but we have lots of friends from other guilds and always pick one or two up) , never more than that. BT from gandara also roams in a similar fashion. judge does it as well but they have more members.
[team] were fun to fight against, the few times we met.I don’t really recall fighting any other small teams like us, except for them.
We dont really mind though, our “thing” is fighting against impossible odds and see how far we can go. having more 5 man groups around to fight every so often would be nice, but I really enjoy those 5v20+ we keep getting.

Highlight for me was you guys chasing me from your spawn up to Foghaven to meet the rest of our group. I waited at ruins and saw you start to follow, swam through the water thinking they’ll never chase just one player this far, you were still on me at upper senrtry so I thought ok F it you can meet the rest of the group
I really don’t remember that :p the one guy I remember we chased for longer was a charr engie that I went after underwater from ruins across the lake, dieing near garrison.
I don’t recall any XxX on the map either, only Speller, the necro who was with us.
anyway, good fights, there were some really great moments there for us. I hope this morning tradition keeps up for the rest of the match up.

it is. condition duration is capped at 100%. so is boon duration.

the build looks solid but I just can’t uderstand how you can click skills and use grenade kit. I mean, clicking skills confuses me enough, but when you have ground targeted stuff I can’t stop thinking about all the mouse movements you constantly have to do :p
this is not criticism btw, if you can make it work, good for you, I just can’t understand how or why you do it and I’m sure u’d do much better if you’d avoid clicking skills

elixir H will give you a defensive boon
toss B will give you an offensive boon
toss S will give you a chance at stomp or flee
toss H will give you a defensive boon
toss U will give you projectile blocking
when traited they will also give you might and cleanse conditions. in most fights longer than 1 minute the good will outweight the bad.
I can understand the frustration over toss S, sometimes it decides the outcome of a battle and it shouldnt be so but its very hard for me to decide if I’d prefer always stealth or always stability or a kittenized nerfed version where you got both but for 2.5 seconds or something weak like that.
as for X, it’s just bad and lazy design.
poison dart volley is decent enough. at close range you won’t miss any hit and you’ll get permanent poison on a target. just don’t shoot it from 900 range expecting miracles, it’s obviously not the intent of the skill. there’s a risk vs reward thing to it that works fine, just like blowtorch.
a change I’d support would be making it a projectile finisher tho, I get very jealous of warriors longbow or thieves shortbow when I notice the lack of projectile finishers in our pistols.
also, be careful what you wish for, elixirs are still in a very good place atm any change will most likely result in a nerf, even if they removed the rng.

trust me, this build is very solid. I had the chance to play with amadeus in a group of 3, later 4 and we were bringing down 15 guys at a time; I’d just grab all his burn duration and spread it with epidemic on my necro; spreading 30 seconds of burn in aoe is pretty kitten destructive :p
meanwhile he’d save my necro kitten with his good heals.
at one point we messed up, got overrun by a zerg and he was the only one escaping.
I’m considering a similar build but with TK instead of ft and a few different traits. also, carrion ^^

you don’t really need speedy kits if you are running an elixir build with 30 points in alchemy. even without any extra boon duration you shouldn’t have much problems keeping swiftness up while in combat. 13 seconds of swiftness from B, 13 from hidden flask at 75% hp, 13 from H randomly and 13 from toss B randomly.
elixir S is still great, even after the nerf. it is still a guaranteed stomp, which is awesome in wvw, extra might stacks and cleanse.
C is ok, especially if you are fighting a necro, it’s cooldown is faster than corrupt boon so you can always counter it well.
EG is a good choice as well, especially now that the toolbelt skill is a stunbreaker. its another source of swiftness, a blast finisher, an area heal and perma weakness on one single utility slot.

also, boon duration is capped at 100%, not 50%. I run +70% boon duration now and I have gone +90 and 100 (110) before.

I’d consider necro having it worse than engies and warriors because the number 2 skill has a very long wind up and the #3 skill is lacking. also warrior #3 can change some fights around and engie #3 is very good when we actually get to use it.

I also liked how that worked out with the thief, especially because it was a do or die thing with tekno downed.
we always worked very well in a duo but I’m really enjoying guardians strenght in numbers trait. +150 toughness just from being next to him.. and he is up to some 3200 armor or something, pretty insane considering the ammount of healing he can do as well.

there’s plenty of room for variation. I wouldnt use acidic elixirs because I consider it a very flawed concept. the only time I think there might be some usefulness to it would be to remove stability from opponents transformations (tornado, plague, lich)

just a couple of post patch fights recorded yesterday. the first one is very long, I hope its enjoyable to watch as it drags on for a while; we end up getting about 15 kills in 7 minutes of non stop fighting while outnumbered. that ranger about 5 mins in was bugged and a stomp just wasn’t possible.
second one is a 2v6. both times a 3rd joins in towards the end of the fight.
my guardian buddy is The Tekno Viking, I’m not really able to answer questions about his build. All I can say is when we die, he is to blame. always.
we had a few more fights like those and even better when we were 4, but sadly I can’t really record them.
I’m enjoying this patch very much and guardian’s Strength in Numbers is awesome.
my build is the same as before, just with coated bullets instead of protective shield. I might go in a whole new direction soon, last patch opened up even more interesting possibilities.

it’s still a decent trait, you are forgetting about the minor traits in firearms, sharpshooter, target the weak and target the maimed which go very well together with modified ammunition. I’d be looking at +20% damage (10 from mod ammo, 5% from sigil, 5% from target the maimed) and 70% ish crit rate against targets at less than 50% hp which isnt bad at all.
I’m unsure wether to take it or not, mainly because I dont want to give up on anything else. I may have to finally let go of cloaking device :<

Coated bullets is a little enticing, but you have to remember that it’s only going to benefit pistol 1 & 2. And, because pistol 1 is bugged, you’re only going to get the bleed on your initial target.
I know, I’ve used till the last balance patch before this one. pistol 1 + coated bullets will hit twice on the same target at max range or when shooting from above. also when enemies clump together, perfect to stop resses, especially combined with p2 and p4. you have to play a bit with your positioning but tis well worth it. just useless for most duels. if its true we can get it for 20 points instead of 30, then Im happy :p

There seems to be a lot of focus on permanent swiftness, which yes, is good. But as I said above, it’s not a teleport, or a leap. A teleport to me is fundamentally different than just running faster. The ability to move instantaneously, without regard to cripple or chill or even immobility in some cases, is powerful, and its something thieves and mesmers have in abundance.
I’m of the opposite opinion actually. There seems to be alot of players thinking that mobility is only about teleports, leaps and passive signets. those do not make you escape or catch someone any more than things like permanent swiftness, box of nails, glue shot, glue bomb, chill nades, elixir S, toss S, gear shield, magnet, etc.
also, mesmers and thieves getting torment is because their condition builds are laughable right now. it has little to do with mobility and won’t change much in that regard either.

yea, this is pretty much the same as my last build, except you run power shoes while I run protective shield.
you should just run ac a couple of times and get superior runes of the monk instead of major water :p
is power shoes really worth it tho?
while in combat I never have any issues with speed, swiftness its pretty much permanent and for escapes I just drop glue shots and box of nails behind me, while avoiding damage with S/gear shield/throw S.
My shady math tells me protective shield is about a 7% total reduction in direct damage in a long fight and probably a better choice there, but I never really tested power shoes, always dismissed it as unnecessary.

I’d like to see videos of you beating thieves who are trying to gank you open field in WvW. Those videos need to show you being taken by surprise, because that’s the problem. I don’t doubt you can do it, I just want to see how it’s done. We L2P losers need some graphical aids sometimes.
most of the times I dont even bother recording those, not gonna press record key half way through a fight :p
it’s still easy enough to fight them tho, only ones giving me trouble are good s/d thieves. or d/p who can just run away. they can’t do much else anyway.

I don’t really miss the range but I do miss coated bullets some times. Last couple of days I was playing my necro, small group against the zerg and I was so happy when our enemies all clumped up to ress and I just dropped marks on them. I miss doing that with my engie build.

but I’m pretty sure your build is different from the ones I posted, tho similar. I think you have might duration stuff instead of general boon duration and you are not using either cloaking device or protective shield.
anyway, like I said before, there’s lots of room for changes in this builds as long as you keep 30 points in alchemy, fast acting elixirs and hair trigger.

Good WvW’ing this morning-afternoon on MS border AG VS Ms (+vs awesome TCHU gandarans).
Good lone siege of us on hills did the work, and rids of the dreaded WP for today. We on AG had a blast hope MS had GG too.
Ended loosing it to a very timely and powerful golem rush after countering 4 attempts prior to it.
Thanks to gandaran TCHU for being pesky both on us and mainly MS, every time you picked at them we ran right in to clean up the field, helped much!

we never really favoured attacking either side, just attacked who we could and who seemed to have more players in a skirmish.

regarding wvw, I run with a guardian as a engie alot of the time in wvw, in a duo or a trio. the guardian usually provides the heals and boons while also dealing with most of the stomps while I do -mostly- condition damage. my opinion on a 3rd member is that ranger doesn’t really help much. a mesmer or a thief fits my group better because they can provide you with easy escape mechanisms.

I have been running staf ele in a zerg buster roaming group (5 or less of us) against huge numbers.
I made the tankiest staff ele I could and I’m really happy with out it turned out, unless there’s 5+ guys focusing me for a long time I’m not gonna go down. Meanwhile I’m doing alot of healing and support (all the fields, insta blast on earth dodge, aoe snare, aoe stun, perma boons up, cleansing, etc)
what I run is the typical 0/0/10/30/30 , ether renewal, mist form, armor of earth and lightning flash. Cleric armor, azurite jewels, sigile of energy and boon duration runes.
Im sitting at 20k hp, 1780 toughness and I just feel unkillable.
I don’t do any damage, nor do I bother with it much. I lay the fields, do the heals, give the boons so others in my group can kill and survive the zerg trains we unleash on us.
I might make a vid of it soon since it’s been so much fun playing a staff ele like this.
