no such thing as a perfect 5 man team. a setup might be good for one thing and horrible for another.
guardian, guardian, necro, engie (or poison share thief), mesm, focusing targets and abusing epidemic works wonders against more disorganized opponents/pug zergs but any capable groups will give you a hard time. its still one of my favourite setups to run with.

it was a fun week overall for us, not the most skilled of fights but plenty of them, most of which fun.
thank you all that fought us in the open with less than 15 guys :p

scavenger should be the highest condition damage runeset if Im not mistaken.
I havent run them on my engie, I did on my necro and I didn’t really like them. Although they offer alot of condi dmg, they lack that extra something that makes a runeset good, the lifesteal thing doesnt cut it for me.

besides what was already mentioned, I always enjoyed runes of the adventurer. that extra dodge everytime you heal is pretty neat, I suppose you can even go medkit with a sigil of energy along with it and dodge all over the place.

personally I use boon duration stuff (2x travelers, 2x water,2x monk).

Im ok with that one, I use the bomb alot to add burst to my rotation.

Reserve mines however… ! remove please

ascended armor pieces get both runes and infusion slots
ascended weapons get both sigils and infusion slots

Really? Does it actually not affect the Toss-skills? (never tried that, but I reckon that’d make the trait balanced)

it does and its not that bad of a trait by itself, but I think it should do something else other than 20% increase in durations to be viable. there’s a reason every elixir build just goes fast acting elixirs, 409, hgh.

Let’s try to gather our feedback in one place again. Keep it simple, keep it short, keep it realistic.

my own:

-main hand pistol skills are still somewhat weak: short bleed on p1, ramdomness on poison dart volley

-almost all of our cooldown reduction traits are just that, they dont give any bonuses like you see in every other class

-glue shot needs it’s travel time reduced

-we need more reasons to use elite skills other than supply crate

-gadgets need more trait interaction to make them interesting

-reserve mines are more punishing than useful, if nothing else make it so they don’t reveal you when someone steps on them, a minor trait outside of player control shouldn’t work againt us

-coated bullets needs some work done. a master trait that works only on 2 skills doesn’t seem right

-normalize and/or buff tossed elixir radius so it’s less selfish and more support oriented.

-no real reason to use potent elixirs, ever.

why would you autoattack zergs with flamethrower tho, there’s so many reasons not to do it.

berserker is generaly very bad for roaming, unless you have alot of disengages.
roaming usually gets you into to outnumbered fights and you if you can’t stand the pressure of being attacked by 2-3 guys, your extra damage won’t help.

as someone who runs with small groups fighting zergs all day it’s very discouraging to have all the players you killed in the initial pushed ressed that easily.

Making it so every extra resser past the first one contributed less and less to the ressing would also go a long way.

I just don’t understand. WvW fighting is meant to promote zerg fights because that’s the type of PvP it is. If you want small scale, they have sPvP and an area to set up GvG. The options are there for people who don’t want to fight in a conquest/army style setting.

some of us prefer fighting in smaller scales, where you can actually use classes other than guardians, warriors, eles and necros and where skill is more than yelling stack and regrouping for water blasts . we also enjoy the challenge of fighting bigger numbers but in this game, bigger numbers have all the advantages and no downsides.

So basically you want to fight big numbers with small numbers and win, but not wit ha challenge, because you continually ask to make changes to give yourself an advantage over the bigger numbers or to “punish” them. I always thought the -challenge- part of the -zerg breaker- group is using what you have to beat the larger numbers. Not that I will complain if there are more options for me, but you aren’t really challenging yourself when you keep asking devs to even out the fight for you to make it fair. It’s actually making it less challenging because your guild is incappable of doing what you claim you love to do.

I asked for nothing, you just speculated all by yourself for some reason. For me the problem is not mainly with the devs or the mechanics, but greatly with the players who prefer to run around in a big group fighting nothing but doors. At some point these players have to ask themselves why are they playing this game and wvw.

I challenge myself properly, but there’s limits to what kind of fights you can pull off, and when my 5 man group can’t find a fight that’s not against a 30 man group hoping from keep to keep, things get boring. We still try it, but there’s a reason you don’t see small groups anymore, it’s hard to keep yourself motivated and you rarely get good fights.

And it’s funny when I think about it, the part of the keep farmer train that sometimes fights us and dies horribly, the ones that are playing the game for the fights and not for champion loot or ppt, are the ones getting punished. The others who just run away to join their blob get properly rewarded with w/e it is they find rewarding in destroying doors.

yea, this matchup was horrible for small groups, I didnt see anyone running a small group, barely saw anyone outside of the main blobs all week.

elona has a strange compulsion to waypoint in, destroy siege and waypoint out, because you know, fighting siege and doors is way more fun than fighting players.

I hope we never catch any of these servers again.

I played an Engineer in Warhammer (renown rank 90 something I think). It was a lot of fun. It was a pathetically broken class that changed the game into instant hard-mode, but all the craftiness from aoe pulls, aoe knockdowns, aoe heals, aoe stuns, gadgets of all sorts was definitely a lot of fun.

I tried that to some extent when I first got into GW2 and rolled an engi. It doesn’t really work like that with the way turrets work here though.

hah, I remember that. such a broken game sometimes.
I too played an engie. and magus, sorc, sh, bo, choppa, slayer, bw, sm, sw, shaman, kotbs, chosen, we, wh, rp, zealot :p

I’m trying not to use toss B or S on recharge. Sometimes I do it tho. I will use toss B on recharge on heavy cc fights tho. as for toss S , I try to use it for a breather or easy stomp, or sometimes to stack it with cloaking device (10 seconds stealth is something funny).
On fights against heavy condition spam I use them everytime I have high damage conditions, chill/cripple or poison just before a heal. I try to avoid being overloaded with conditions, 409 isn’t fast enough to deal with that.
And I’ll surely spam all tosses when Im fighting near water, since they don’t share cooldowns :p

On stomps (my S is also bound to the mouse wheel) I wait for the hand to be up during the stomp animation befores using S. Using it too soon can still get you cc’d right before the animation ends. I prefer just blinding if it’s the last person to be stomped.

About crate, although I do try to use it later in a fight, there’s no real problem using it earlier, depends on the situations. I either do it for the heal or for the interrupt. The medpacks linger long enough to still be useful and the turrets now actually attack your target :p

I don’t think these were very good fights tho, I could have done much better, but I barely roamed solo. As you know the previous patch cycle made this build really strong with stealth and stability on demand. During the whole season I only lost duels twice, both against necros with double signet (plague, spite) , corrupt boon and dhuumfire and still I manged to beat them more than I lost by going elixir C instead of S and even AR instead of hgh.
Now the ip change toned it down again :p

I’ll try to record something with the new patch changes, but I won’t be as powerful ofc.

nah, that wouldn’t work. in any build using conditions the ability to quickly reapply them is one of the keys to success. also. power shoes doesn’t make much of a difference in a build that already has plenty of access to swifness in combat.

to anyone wondering I’ve gone 20-10-10-30-0 after the patch.
exploit weakness is surprisingly good, still unsure if I’ll keep cloaking device or go protection on crit. guess I’ll change that depending on circumstances.

You may want to remove the links from your signature before posting such nonsense. The very first video in your list shows you handily winning a 2v1 by spamming conditions.

I play engineer as well, so don’t try to tell me how great you are or how bad your opponents are. If your build auto-wins by spamming everything on cooldown, even against mediocre opponents, it’s over powered.

you should have kept going and see me winning 1v3s too ! or check my vids from months ago when conditions weren’t considered a problem and see me winning 1v5s.

OR.. at least check the build links and see that Im not using either rabid or dire armor but carrion which is POWER vit and cd. that makes a world of difference against certain classes/setups. besides, I win 1v2s with my direct damage classes too, I just don’t play them enough to actually record stuff.

I have 7 different level 80 toons, I only play 1 as pure conditions, 1 as hybrid, 2 as healing/support and 3 as direct dmg. roaming solo or in small groups is all I do in gw2 so:

it’s very far from nonsense. any decently organized small roaming group will not die to conditions easily. any group running two guardians or a guardian and an ele will trivially cleanse stuff and keep cc at bay with near permanent stability. add in a warrior or two and try to beat that with an equally skilled condition based group.

conditions are great to beat bad players that like to zerg, or groups that lack cleansing but any half good organized group (or even solo roamer) will deal just fine with conditions.

I know my groups don’t die because of conditions, what gets us (besides vastly superior numbers) is chain cc and full berserker backliners.
and we run both direct dmage groups, mixed or condition depending on what setups we face or what we feel like playing.
those rare times when we face good groups we usually drop conditions and grab warriors eles and guardians. go figure!

Great vids, nice game play I use a very similar build apart from more condition based with dire armor and scavenger runes, a sometimes swap out toolkit for bombs when taking camps etc. and sometimes 2nd pistol for shield. If using bomb kit.

While Conditions are nasty, don’t pretend Power Damage isn’t easily as nasty.

Cool. Warrior pin down would still hit you for 18k and impale for 12k. And the warrior would be sitting on 1950 thoughness as well.

Yes, of course. Just trying to point out that condition specs can deal compareable damage to zerker specs while still being very tanky. It’s not really that alone that’s problem with condi specs, it’s also that many condition procs are generally difficult (doom) or impossible (dhoomsfire) to avoid.

they still wont be as bursty and subject to cleansing, even by sources other than the target. conditions need time to kill, thats what you trade for supposed tankiness.

fight against any decent group and try stacking conditions on a target. it’s not gonna happen.

I added the buids used to the original post. I had to upload the vid three times and didn’t really have time to add builds and tracklist. done now!

keep in mind that these builds will have to be changed/won’t work like this after december 10th patch.
also, I sometimes change minor stuff depending on the fights I expect, like dropping hgh for protection on cc or automated response, or dropping cloaking device for stabilized armor, ip for bomb radius, etc

Having fun this week, got wiped countless times (well, probably about 3 times) by [Tchuu] this morning in FSP borderland while contantly having a 5-10 man force with only 3 on TS, but for the rest it was good. ‘FOCUS THE .. kitten.. NECRO’S!’ > wiped.

we had fun this morning as well, match up got way more interesting for us since gandara ppt zerg is gone, now we actually find fights worth having.
it was such a strange morning tho, we stole a bunch of deso keeps and towers FSP was trying to cap. At some point we had both garrison and hills wide open while we ran from one side to the other wiping enemies and making last second saves as a 5 man team. I actually manned an arrow cart for the first time in months.

random gandara commander just before he changed map: “we can’t defend, they have 20 players and we don’t have enough”.

highlight of our morning was our fsp basketball on top of garrison, pullling people to that central hole is too much fun.

Yeah, good fights though we were a bit outmatched. Our thief and ranger are not so good against condis, but that’s no excuse for a lost fight. So much running away in the last fights.

On a side note: December patch makes my s/d thief cry

Top notch engi beats top notch anything else 1v1, except mesmer. Why go engi instead of mesmer, you say? Because we can 1vX better than a mesmer can, and really, how often do you get 1v1’s in wvw?

I roam on my engi, but it would probably still work if I wanted to zerg. But, you know, that won’t ever happen.

why except mesmers? we run similar builds and I don’t die to mesmers except if I screw up extremely. good necros however…!

and there’s no such thing as deadliest class op.

it depends on what you want to do.
just generalizing here because not everyone uses the same builds but:

-a mesmer would help you greatly with escapes and dodging much bigger groups. it does lack speed and condi removal.
-a thief would provide you with much needed burst, but will be near useless against more organized groups.
-a warrior would provide you with perma swiftness, heavy cc and blasts for the ranger water field. there’s hardly any downside. it might get tough when facing alot of melee pressure against bigger groups.
-an engie is great for target calling (pulling a target and giving it confusion and poison), secondary healing, fields and blasts, stomps and condition pressure.
-a necro is hard to make work in a small group like that because it lacks escape tools and gets tough for a necro under pressure to get stuff done. epidemic is devastating against less organized groups though.
-an ele (d/d or s/d) works great, can also blast that water field, has decent burst, cc, condi cleanse, boons.

some 3 vs many from me (engie) as well so you understand what you’ll generally face.

my personal opinion is that it’s just a tooltip mistake, if tossed elixirs gave 2 stacks of might, getting 25 stacks would be even more trivial than what it is.

Mask misspoke. He meant that you’d take Expose Weakness and then IP over Enhanced Performance. You don’t need Enhanced Performance – just take Elixir H and proc HgH, you will notice a difference, but you should have no problem reaching the proper stacks. It’s overall better.. remember, you have no points in tools for a better heal recharge on Medkit, and yet you have all the Elixir Traits to buff up Elixir H. The might stacking is great, but not everything.

Im planning on going 20-10-10-30-0 for wvw. ip is just too good to give up, it’s not only the burning damage.. the ability to put 4 conditions on a single opening crit static shot is just too overwhelming for some players/classes.

it won’t be crippled, it will still be very doable.

you can just use the same thing you using except with exploit weakness instead of enhanced performance.. you lose 3 stacks of might every 20 seconds, you get a long duration cripple. one more condi to be cleansed.

at least thats how Im planning to play it after the 10th.
