I can’t run without it, I’d go insane from moving so slow. (Enter combat, move like snail. No thanks) It’s useful for stomps as an on demand blind, I hate how mandatory it is but it’s too good to pass up. I don’t run D/P
I think you’re right on the CD triggering even when you don’t have cripple, I thought it was bugged but I never thought of that. It really isn’t a strong trait because cripple is hardly a problem for thief, I’d rather it do something else like small heal if conditioned or something.
^I don’t think those people even play anymore, they posted videos only like 6-8 months back.
You’d be best to take some kind of costume and provide entertainment for the party while they do all the useful stuff. They call me the jester…
I disagree, you can customize your HUD in WoW any way you want. By default all the numbers and clutter is terrible yes but with a little effort you fix that right up. On my rogue I use 20+ abilities regularly nothing I have is useless like people seem to think. But defending a game that has a massive hate train for the sake of hating even though it has changed dramatically over the years is a lost cause ;p
@OP, nothing changes at high level, you will still be spamming the same skills… and get used to your auto attack because that will be 99% of what you do on a lot of the proffs and hilariously enough it is usually the best DPS as well. I and many others are still waiting for more skill variety but it will probably not ever come in current design.
I do find it difficult to level an alt when I already have a maxed out main.
I think it would be pretty fun if you could use an alt as a follower. Think the henchies in GW1. You pick one alt that follows you around. Only available to lvl 80s. Your alt gets all the reward except when it comes to looting. You would loot using your main.
That would simply be amazing. +1
Be careful what you ask for, they might make queensdale like Orr and get 1shot by crap. No thanks… but definitely damage is off the charts when you’re 80 and in full exotics being downscaled. Steam rolling everything with my shortbow AoE I can do any event in queensdale with my eyes closed. It is a low level area though and there is not much they can do without ruining a low levels experience, all you can do is go to higher area’s for a challenge. Sorry did I say challenge? I meant 1 shot mechanics.
I never took month long breaks in GW1 like I do regularly in GW2, just sayin’. Currently the game has nothing going for it even in the long run unless they add a ton of build variety and fix a lot of stuff which would probably take ANet years to realize. At that point I’ll have just moved on to the next big thing like ESO or whatever new MMO comes out.
And temporary content is horrible. It’s all we’ve had so far…
This isn’t Guild Wars 1, there are only 1-2 builds that each proff uses… and if you’re not using the meta you’re most likely bad anyway. Being unique is not efficient in GW2, for example go play some tourney with a unicorn sin and get laughed at.
If you did somehow manage to find a build that was both efficient and new in our extremely limited pool of traits/skills it was because an update just changed something with a buff or nerf and it will be mainstream soon enough.
You won’t contribute much anything more than damage unless you go venom share build.
I wouldn’t use it, the only thing I’d consider other than full berserker is valk with 100% crit trait if you reaaally need the extra vit.
I used to run AE sin in TA all the time
ANet totally threw away the idea of short cooldown or resource based elites though. The shortest CD elite time in the game is probably our basilisk venom and that kitten need either 1/2s cast time or none. First of all it’s an elite and 2nd every other venom is instant.. so where is the logic in a 1 1/2 cast time?
Personally I want Shadow Form, the assassins most popular elite skill from GW1… thieves need a type of invulnerability, doesn’t every other proff in the game have at least one? We’re lacking in many areas.
I’d be mad too if I solo queued into a premade game.
I like this thread. I think ANet should read every post in here and take some notes, but unfortunately.. we all know nothing short of new conquest maps and minor profession changes are coming.
Pvp will be fail until we get new modes, specifically from GW1. Guild halls and GvG, seriously what is taking you so long to put these in? Are we ever going to see them?
What % MF would I need to get glacial lodestones off ice elementals/ice imps and molten lodestones off fire elementals/fire imps (if fire imps exist…not so sure?), assume I just want 1 per hour?
I have had 140% MF and 10 hours later plus 1200 dead ice elementals/ice imps later, still no glacial lodestones…
Just keep grinding, MF is not that great for getting items that have a near-zero drop chance.
I’m a thief and I hate the implementation of stealth in this game. You’re so bound to it. The balance problem won’t get a solution until they completly remove or change it radically.
I played lots of games and this is the most lazy stealth mechanic I’ve ever seen in a big title. I kill people before they realise what’s going on and same goes for enemy thives.
If I want to run away from a fight, I leave whenever I want and again vice versa for enemy thieves.Lets compare mechanics to other games.
-I dont need to be behind enemey to be able to go stealth
-nobody can see me even if I’m dancing infront of thier nose
-stealth skills works from every angle, going behind just gives some bonus for some.
-no speed, regen, defence etc loss while in stealthAt least put a transparent vision of the stealthed thief when they are in close range and infront of enemy. (sadly like WoW)
Going stealth should have advantages and disadvantages at the same time. It must be a tactical move. Right now it punishes nothing. So logicaly its much better to go stealth whenever avalible. Thats how I used to play my thief. 2 stealth utility, 1 stealth from healing and a dagger in off hand. Cheesy…
Also look how the game works with it:
-Use stealth to blind enemy
-Use stealth to regen initative
-Use stealth to remove conditions
-Use stealth to regen health
-Use stealth to immobilize enemy
-Use stealth to apply bleed stacks
-Use stealth to interrupt
-Use stealth to %100 crit
-etc etcThe game screams that go stealth as much as possible yet they put a reveal debuff to fix the issue!!! Nonsense imho.
I completely agree, as a thief since beta I would much rather just not have stealth and get a buff to our condition removal and survival in general. Stealth is WAY too emphasized right now. I want to be an assassin from GW1 and S/D is the closest thing I can get.
You do know most of the people playing Gw2 don’t know who Rambo is lol, We are getting old man lol look at it this way a 25 year old playing Gw2 wasnt even born when Rambo came out.
I’m going on 24 and have watched first blood more times than I can count. You don’t need to be born when something comes out to know what it is o_O I’d say the majority, if not 90% of the playerbase knows exactly who rambo is.. HOW CAN YOU NOT!? He’s legend, plus the newest one was released not too long ago.
Assassin would dominate.
I have a counter for you, thief should not be blockable in stealth because after all it is a… wait for it… wait for iiiiiiiiiiit… SNEAK ATTACK!
Lol.
This thread is about pvp, not WvW. Nice vid jumper, dem dodge rolls…
Because thieves are annoying, doesn’t matter that they’re trash, people will continue to complain and ANet will continue to nerf.
My agreement level is over 9000.
Unless it’s a queue feature, which it won’t be as they have stated, people will just continue to use GW2LFG because it is the norm already. Honestly it’s a waste of their resources to put one in at this point, should have shipped with it.
Variety in GW2? BLASPHEMY, HANG HIM!
No lol they won’t bring back dual professions. The best we’ll get is maybe a new weapon set or two in 2015 at best considering the snails pace the game is moving at right now.
I don’t believe for one second the balance argument holds ground for more skills because GW2 is not even balanced, although that’s not a skill problem but rather everything except zerker is sub-par and weak scaling, slightly different story in pvp.
I’m still waiting for toughness vitality healing power so I can be 100% useless in groups
Wtf more useless town clothes that can’t be worn in combat, hello please wake up ANet I won’t buy any useless town clothing.
Dragon Festival meh won’t be the same I’m sure since Cantha isn’t allowed, gem store gets a bunch of temporary content as usual. Limited time only! Is that supposed to make me grab one before they run out, because it actually makes me not want to buy them out of spite.
And yet there is a rather clear part of the post that states that there is also armor-skins that CAN be used in combat.
Funny how people only read what they want, aye?
No I saw that, but those require transmutation stones on TOP of buying the full set. Am I supposed to get multiple sets of my zerker gear just to put skins on them, or would it be easier to just let me combat in my town clothes that cover my actual gear? Costumes were done a billion times better in GW1.
I’m guessing maybe something similar to GW1’s Dragon Festival will be next:

I main a thief and hate stealth, it’s a lame mechanic that should have stayed in WoW and other MMO’s. What made the assassin so awesome in GW1 was it didn’t use stealth but shadow steps with combo attacks.
ANet can’t even balance it correctly, mobs still hit you mid-attack when you vanish and the blinding powder trait has caused many of us thieves to drop that entire trait line because 90% of the time it will be completely useless and give you a nice sexy 4s revealed timer.
I knew from the start it was a horrible idea for stealth to be in the game, and I’ll never like it. Maybe some day they’ll get over the terrible skill system and add more options.

:(
Lol what, how TERRIBLE, I hope that’s a troll?
Because testing works SO well, lol.
Haha, the pally seal bug? I remember that at some point in Cata. It was hotfixed pretty quickly though and was a result of a change Blizz did. Worked in pvp too… seeing a group of 20 fall to a single pally in AV was pretty hilarious.
OT: We need a PTR. GW1 had a player test krewe but that was only for pvp I think.
Oh you all thought that scavenger hunt was really coming? HAH! GW2 without RNG massive grind, that’ll be the day.
Legendaries sicken me with the way they’ve been implemented… absolutely nothing legendary other than the peoples patience who actually get through making one.
The way DaiBash talked about a big quest to create a legendary made me laugh, because it’s exactly how you made them in WoW …. YEARS AGO. ANet for some reason just went with an RNG grind system that puts any koreon MMO to shame.
/endrage and disgust
Nah, not at all to be completely honest. Not with 1 shot mechanics and such, anyways.
GW1 Assassin, 10x funner than thief.
A Tony Jaa profession, which would come out of nowhere constantly and knee people in the face, easily dispatching its victims with incredible martial arts. I guess you could call it the Monk.
Well they’ve effectively made shortbow 1 completely useless at range in pvp but I never sat there spamming 1 anyways. SB has always been a melee weapon because our attacks take an hour to reach the target. This doesn’t affect me at all, although it’s still incredibly stupid.
They are changing/nerfing the way our basic attacks work for who knows what reason, to see how kitten off the players can get? Sb 1 was never a problem so idk what this is for.

It does suck, 1k life is crap. It should at the very least scale with precision on gear + base crit. The difference in zerker gear is running with 14k or 15k.. honestly you think that is going to save me somehow lol?
Flux was added way late in the game and was ANet grasping at straws in pvp because only a couple people were on the GW1 team.
It wasn’t good… wasn’t bad, meh. Forcing us to play around their own meta because they were too lazy to actually balance.
It was interesting but nothing special, and we definitely won’t see it in GW2 because hurr durr e-sports (ya right)
Zerker123456789
Daily is 3 times longer
Reward is just as bad
Sounds like GW2 to me, using a bunch of your time for a crap reward.
Kaineng city was huge, when I first played factions I didn’t understand it wasn’t just a zone but a plagued city I was running around in, then the wow factor came. I loved the look and feel, I thought it was great. The first time you leave the city and meet master togo in pongmei valley the scenery was amazing.
I couldn’t have got into GW as much as I did without factions, simply put. I want to meet shiro again and see where in the underworld he’s been rotting away at since the envoys said they prepared a special place for him… must be pretty intense.
The only place I want to visit equally as bad is Elona and ONLY because palawa joko is one of my favorite characters from GW, not because I especially liked Elona that much even though defeating a god was pretty epic. I need Cantha to keep me hooked, no doubt.
There is an underwater dragon. That speaks for itself. – This means a deap sea zone, or multple, and another underwater dungeon to slay the dragon. – Underwater combat will be unavoidable in the world of Tyria in the state of War with the Dragons that it’s in.
Oh yay… can’t wait for that… just kill me now.
I want Stats Variations like GW 1 so the game does not have a treadmill.
I want loot to be casually found and made like GW 1 through every aspect of the game
I’d like end game “skins” to be the final grind not overpowered crap
The Cash shop full of Armor set weapon set skins.
Story Quest Gives an Epic or Legendary Item, as per GW1 (not a rare)
Story Quests can be redone
Dungeons Scaleable to level and group size in difficulty..
I want Skills Capture and a lot more skills than we currently have as per GW1I’d just like Guildwars 2 to follow its roots better and appeal to its original fans more, i guess that’s too much to ask.
(my opinion)
Agree’d, nothing to add really but emphasis on more skills and skill hunting like in GW1.
Grind is easier to design I suppose. Decent pvp modes are needed, conquest sucks.
I hate underwater combat, .. they didn’t think too much on my proff how my build traits are completely designed around stealth yet the only way I can go stealth is my heal? The only good thief underwater build is constant initiative regen crit for godmode number 5 on spear.
They simply didn’t test all builds underwater and for that the weapons need a redesign to compliment everything, not just one build. It’s obviously unfinished, only 2 weapons useable, and if I can jab a spear underwater why can’t I have it as a main hand and dagger offhand so I can actually stealth?
Dat ice bow, must be pro MLG
The card game Magic: the Gathering was first published in 1993. People have been claiming the game is dying for 20 years. The folks at Wizards of the Coast laugh about it every time they cash their paychecks.
These threads are meaningless rumormongering.
Terrible example.
Not really terrible. Everyone I grew up playing the game with no longer do, and I certainly stopped playing. However, the game still is going with new crop of newbs to show off my Enduring Renewal Loop Deck to
Played a few games on my human deck against my friends vampire deck last night, game is definitely still alive, 4-5 of us still have our nerd nights quite often and I’m sure plenty people still play.
OT: I laughed at the part where ANet is focusing too much on pvp… riiiiight, but I’ll agree on everything else. They aren’t focusing on anything except a bunch of temporary content as usual.
Must suck not being an unkillable God anymore… lol sorry but I can’t take this thread seriously.
You can make gold in WvW though you get pve loot
With the new custom arena’s coming out and having to pay for them I don’t see why we can’t exchange glory which is our only currency in pvp for gems. Or let us exchange glory for gold, either way will work.
GW1 had pvp done right, even on pvp-only characters you could get keys by trading balthazar faction and sell for 5 plat per give or take, it was perfect. This would also bring a lot of pve-players into pvp.
I think it’s unfair we have to pay for our content, and this is the only decent content we’ve had in pvp so far… but at least LET US pay without having to farm pve or throw a credit card at the TP.. you’ve effectively given this game a monthly fee if you are a pvper and want to own a server, so grats on that I guess.
I also suggest skins get unlocked, I think the current system is horrible tbh.
Nowadays it’s standard to have observe-mode / custom servers and leaderboards in a game. They released GW2 just too early with the consequence that 80% of all players left after 1 month. So now they working under pressure to implement these futures for the rest of us. Imagine if custom arenas/spec-mode and leaderboards were there after 1 month of release. Would be a completely different game.
I don’t think its Arena Nets fault it was released to early, its probably NC Softs
I think so too. But as I don’t know it exactly I just put “they” as a placeholder.
We weren’t allowed to have factions thanks to NCsoft, pretty sure ANet are not in control of their own game, at least not fully. We had multiple districts with different cultures in divinity reach at beta, just like we had multiple game modes being tested before GW2 was released.
Really who knows, all I know is conquest sucks and if we can’t have more game modes because of e-sports then I don’t want e-sports. Same goes for variety.. I want more skills, and if e-sports or balance is preventing that then screw it, let’s have an unbalanced, but more fun MMO.
GW1 will never make itself into to GW2, that much is obvious but right now this game is nothing short of bland. Sacrificing variety for balance is never a good thing imo… at least not in pve. I so miss build wars.
I feed on your Ele tears.
