Whichever one requires the most grind.
None of them. Because none of them have a story.
Per Merriam-Webster:
Legendary: “of, relating to, or characteristic of legend or a legend”
Legend: “a story coming down from the past; especially : one popularly regarded as historical although not verifiable”
Haha great post.
Even Orr is dead on my server now, I checked in yesterday and today just to confirm and yeah the game totally feels abandoned at this point. In map chat I kept getting told “just join another server” … when only 4 people show up for melandru that is just pathetic. Both times I was logged in at 4 PM PST.
Goes to show how unrewarding gameplay is.
Ignoring half the glaring problems in spvp like progression, variety in game modes, etc. on a purely neutral standpoint no I highly doubt it. Too much stuff going on and it’s not easy to get in to. GW1 had esport potential with GvG because you could tell what was going on.
Spectating anything except for 1v1 duels looks like a massive zerg fest with a bunch of particle affects. They shouldn’t have abandoned sound queue’s and animations that were in GW1 if they wanted e-sports imo. And this isn’t just a problem for spectators but players themselves while fighting, combat is too chaotic. A problem in both pvp and pve. I think the biggest culprit is LOLFIREONYOURSCREENLOLEXPLOSIONSLOLMORESTUFF,RUBLINDYET?
Oh and getting downed instantly without realizing what the hell just happened, that’s not very friendly either.
And when is this supposed to start? When I clicked the link I though he was implying you were streaming for 4 hours. Def something got lost in translation.
I’m confused too but BLU42 is streaming right now http://www.twitch.tv/blu42
Why not just L2P and go to your own class forums, leave thieves alone we have been nerfed enough.
I don’t get to run with [GF] on my server because I still need to L2P, friend. :-)
It isn’t a nerf unless you’re a thief that is bad enough to backstab even when your foe is blocking, dodging, etc..
If you’re a good thief, this won’t affect you.
If you’re a bad thief, it will affect you.
I don’t know who GF is. And if this won’t affect skilled thieves then why punish the casual player base? Sounds like you just got your panties in a bunch, or are you one of the bads that want thieves to fail on every level unless they’re MLG pro?
I personally believe rangers and mes are faceroll OP right now with certain builds but I wouldn’t dare waste my time posting in their forums crying because I am too busy trying to up my skill level and find counters. Go ahead, search my posts… none of them are anywhere but the thief and general or spvp sections.
Thieves aren’t going to be nerfed into the ground just because you want them to. I’m not happy with the current state of our class either, I personally am tired of stealth builds but our defense is trash without it. If not for back stab we would be useless, and what you’re wanting to be implemented would have a much bigger impact than you think.
We already got a 1s increase on revealed, honestly what more could you want? Play a thief at competitive level and you will change your mind VERY quickly, and I’m stopping our convo there.
Let me be clear because it’s obvious many of you aren’t reading.
I only think a thief should be revealed when:
- Their backstab hits, but is countered by a block, dodge, etc.
I do not think a thief should be revealed when:
- Their backstab (or any attack) is out of range when they use it
- They dodge
- They use a non-attack skill
What does this guarantee?
- A thief that doesn’t pay attention to their foe’s dodging, blocking, etc. will be punished just like anyone else that tries to attack when their foe is doing the same
- A thief will only be guaranteed a backstab if their opponent isn’t wise enough to use a counter
But hey, here’s an idea …
When a thief’s backstab is counted by being blocked, dodged, etc., backstab goes on cooldown until the thief leaves stealth.
This could be easy to implement:
- Backstab, Tactical Strike, etc. require 1 “charge” and being in stealth to use.
- You can not have more than 1 “charge”
- You gain 1 charge any time you transition from “not stealthed” to “stealthed”
- You only lose the charge if you use backstab, tactical strike, etc. and it is countered by a block, dodge, etc.
- Having your attack countered does not remove you from stealth and does not give you the revealed debuff
Why not just L2P and go to your own class forums, leave thieves alone we have been nerfed enough.
Play a thief then come back and realize how dumb this suggestion is… lol.
Really need LFG feature.
I bet their child will only be temporary content.
They got nerfed along with all other drop rates. 0.0001% chance and only on a fool moon when the stars align and only after captain planet is summoned by the planeteers.
I think our burst is fine. What I’d prefer is not to die in 3 seconds when going toe to toe with a boss. I am still dying for a source of protection…
We have that role but it’s not how people want it. We have evasion where others have invuln. Only problem is you need to be quick and jumpy where most other classes can melee bosses with the reaction time of a sloth (for periods of time).
I understand that, I could evade all day and do no damage or spam my shortbow like a boss, which is about as fun as watching ice melt.
Ah finally someone that gets it and actually plays/played modern WoW, I swear everyone bagging on that game remembers it from vanilla and haven’t tried it since. It’s completely different, hardly any RNG or grind at all anymore. Want full epics? Take you a few days, no problem. Want legendary? Do awesome quests and catch up on the lore on the way, and by no means grind for it.
The game is less and less about gear every day and more about experiencing the game entirely even casuals can ‘raid’ now, this has been Blizzards mantra for a while.
when getting from level 80 to 90 requires around 3000 quests (watched my friend do it) I doubt that you can call modern WoW not grindy. It’s less grindy, sure, but nowhere near not grindy at all.
I certainly don’t nkow about 3k lol but 80-85 was a completely different expansion than 85-90 so it’s to be expected. Leveling always takes longer in new expacs, in Cata leveling an alt 1 to 85 took a few days in full heirlooms. I’m not sure about pandaria because I haven’t rolled any alts I leveled straight from 85, you can be sure everything before 85 will be a very fast experience though.
Amount of quests don’t really mean much since there are a ton in WoW and a lot of them are very interesting and touch on lore which is why I don’t mind them. I don’t consider leveling a grind at all unless you’re racing to the finish line. I would experience it all again if I didn’t have every character at 85 or higher.
this is an excellent point! and one we agree on. i have also given up (for a while now) because of the horrible rng. its disgusting.
and if to complain about rng. EVERY single mmo on the market has it! Go back to old ones! They have it even worse! Ever tried to complete a quest on WoW? “get me 10 apples from these mobs” and the drop rate is 0.005. Good luck not going insane sitting there laughing at your screen after killing your 200th mob. Guild Wars 1 had it. “Bring me 2 naga pelts” “I don’t have any, I guess I should kill the naga at the beach. kitten out of naga. Need to reset the instance and do it again…” Every single MMO had RNG. New MMOs have the least RNG out of all MMOs.
The RNG in wow is laughable. It’s not bad at all unless you want something that is actually rare and not just colored yellow and called rare. You can do raid finder and the rolls for gear is RNG but it’s a joke since you can go in the raids with pvp gear on. Getting gear in that game is beyond easy and I get a drop from EVERY mob.
Wow has the best loot and reward system of any mmo I’m playing. Neverwinter is a complete cash grab joke and probably won’t make it a year and Tera is just teraible. GW2 is no different but the keep their push to the gem shop under the radar with hidden loot nerfs and DR and RNG.

The leaderboards are already pointless because it gave everyone that did their daily since release top rank and people like me that only started when laurels came out have no chance and will be forever behind. Already unfair so why not make dailies character bound?
Farming makes you gold and that is not allowed in this game. Although it’s obviously possible to get rich, they want most of the playerbase poor for reasons I don’t understand. I think ANet believes and endless tunnel of grind for legendary and such will keep people going, but for me it does the complete opposite. If I were able to get the stuff I wanted without getting crap drops 24/7 and being a legendary garbage collector I would be playing this game a LOT more.
They keep some things casual, then throw in ridiculously insane RNG to cater to the ‘old ways’ which is funny because it’s even more grindy than other MMOs I’ve played for years, simply because of the RNG. It’s not so much the nerfing of farms that gets me, but the abysmal drop rates on everything. Being able to farm won’t fix that just make things even harder which ANet have accomplished..
I’ve been grinding for months and it feels like I moved maybe 2 steps closer to my goal which I’ve since completely given up on.
I think our burst is fine. What I’d prefer is not to die in 3 seconds when going toe to toe with a boss. I am still dying for a source of protection…
I’d adore watching some of you even try to play thief at any competitive level… so you entered WvW and got stomped by a glass cannon, please just stop crying about it.. Thieves are definitely not the golden child and neither are warriors. Try playing a class and understanding it before screaming OP, OP! Makes you look ridiculous and whiny.
WvW was never and will never be balanced, nor is it meant to be. You want balance? Enter some real pvp, and keep quiet. Wanna hear something amazing? Thief needs buffs not nerfs, although I am not talking about damage.
I don’t think Eddie Murphy plays GW2 so the thief can’t be the golden child.
Lol
nice reference love that movie.
(edited by Mathias.9657)
ANet completely ruined balanced thief when they nerfed C&D, the completely wrong thing to nerf (as always) by 33% IIRC which was a big part of balance damage so no.
This is pretty useful as what else are you going to use the mats for? Already got a white dye from the first 10. But wow does it take forever to click the same 4 mats over, and over, and over, and over, and ooooooooooooverrrrrrrrrrrrrrr why can’t I just repeat the same recipe x50? Terrible mystic toilet mechanics are terrible.
Please stop getting trolled by OP.
Yeah that thread is ridiculous, I had to stop reading all the trash in there.. they should just close it.
I don’t think MF has a place in the game at all, it’s an MMO… but if it must remain then your suggestion sounds ok I guess, only one person needs to hamper themselves in order to benefit the whole team but that would bring up the obvious “but I want my MF to be my MINE”.
I would personally just remove it from all gear and double/triple the amount given on runes. It would simplify things a lot and you won’t be sacrificing too much. I do run a full set in open world but I don’t enjoy doing it one bit.
I’ve probably gotten around 6 or 7 since release, drop chance 0.0000000000001% just like everything else useful in the game. The up side is 2 of those exotics sold for around 6g on the TP… but I had no use for any on my character.
I’m not counting the ones I’ve gotten from map completion or the useless halloween jumping puzzle boots that couldn’t even be salvaged or sold, those are guarantee’d afaik.
(edited by Mathias.9657)
hilariously enough it is usually the best DPS as well.
DPS rotations are boring and unnecessary. They don’t add anything fun or engaging to the gameplay. Why do you feel that having 4 (filler) skills that have to be used in a particular order to be of any use?
Synergy is more entertaining to me than sitting there having my auto attack do a rotation, and yes they have a built in rotation. It’s just less engaging.
There is never a be all end all rotation that you do every time. GW2 definitely has rotations they are just hidden well. Thief: autoattack until revealed done, stealth backstab repeat. Mes: get clones up, shatter. I could go on, but you get my point. I could even go so far as to point out the amazing builds like unicorn sin that just spams 3 and autoattack, 2 buttons not counting the occasional caltrops and dodge.
It surprises me (and it doesn’t) that the vast majority of players don’t use Combo Finishers when they’re available. They add a lot to the effectiveness of attacks and adds a different dynamic for each class/weapon.
Most combo finishers are very, very weak and the only useful ones are splash heal and might stack. 90% of the time your typical DPS rotation would be better. You think getting a fire shield or fire bolts on my thief would be more beneficial than another backstab/autoattack? Lol no way, that stuff is useless. Fields need a massive buff to them to be worth using at least in the damage catagory. At current they add almost nothing to the game except screen clutter besides the two I mentioned.
So what I’m getting from the counter argument is humanity just isn’t intelligent enough to handle GW1’s in-depth skill system… /sigh. Why couldn’t we of evolved from dolphins or something?
It would be nice to be able to remove the skills useless to my build on Thief and replace it with one that’s actually useful to it.
Completely agree, GW was just too hard apparently (not). Onoes we make our own build? GW2 is like, lolhere have everything you’ll ever need on one weapon set. Enjoy autoattack city with hilariously long cooldowns on your utility skills.
I HATE how I can’t switch out crappy death blossom and dancing dagger when all I use is 1,2,5. Completely pointless skills on my bar, and no way to swap them out. How is this even remotely good design? At least let me fill the useless skill slots with something else.
So game is built on GW1 engine.
That’s where you went wrong. No it isn’t.
Modified GW1 engine, so ya..
(edited by Mathias.9657)
If a called target (ctrl+t) would remain targeted so you can press t to get on him again that would fix these stealth issues, but as I’ve experienced I’m pretty sure it disappears every time. That simply should not happen imo.
Yeah but rogues in WoW can’t stealth every 4 seconds, it’s more of a ocrap button to escape or CC after your initial stealth before combat. I’m sure it was the same in all those other MMOs too.
GW2 targeting is trash that’s why it has come to suggestions like this.
You can reach them standing outside the circle, a couple ways you can counter D/P.
Start at 1:40
Let me get right on a balanced thief build so I can be completely useless, yeah no thanks we aren’t D/D Ele’s it just doesn’t work like that. Glass is the only viable option for thief and yes we have TERRIBLE survivability outside stealth other than the obvious running away. If we can keep points neutral in stealth for a few seconds it would be a different story.
edit; nvm this is about WvW.. no idea how I skimmed over that, fail coffee is fail!
(edited by Mathias.9657)
Actually, I’m not really interested in nerfing Blurred Frenzy all that much, it’s not hard to deal with although it is annoying. I want to nerf Phantasms.
Vouch x 1000
As a thief I completely agree with this suggestion.
Ranger can definitely kill a mes 1v1 because they’re just as ridiculous right now.
My point is they are too passive, most of their damage comes from just letting their clones do all the work. No skill at all, at least shatter builds have to time their burst and actually blow the clones up.
I am just not in favor of builds that have you doing none of the work to take a target down, maybe it’s just me but that is lame gameplay. I imagine it would be pretty faceroll if I could summon 2 thieves guild worth of NPCs and just sit back loling as I watch them do 3-4k crits, don’t you agree?
It gets worst in group fights.
You could be targetting the mesmer then all of a sudden he’ll stealth and then you have to retarget, but usually by that time theres 3 clones, not to mention other junk like necro’s minions, rangers pet, thieves clones and stealthing, ele’s with ADD painting the screen, engineers dropping their 100 turrents and grenades and bombs on the ground. On top of that ele’s can summon elemental pets, people can have rock dogs, you can get jagged horrors running around. Its as if kindergarten kids are painting the screen, nothing elegant in group fights just messy mayhem.
The couple of seconds for you to regather your thoughts and find the real mesmer means he either got away or your in a world of pain. Tho it goes both ways in group fights, I can’t imagine anything uglier then 5 mesmers vs 5 necro minion masters.
I kind of agree that there is too much clutter on the screen sometimes, especially during group fights. I don’t know of any other mmo pvp that has this many npcs. Its kinda ridiculous, but it is what it is.
This is a MAJOR problem in both pvp and pve. We never had this crap in GW1.
You aren’t fighting the mesmer though, you’re fighting its clones. Bad design all around , at least you are fighting a ranger even though he has a pet. Mesmer is like 90% passive gameplay, I don’t see esports in that at all especially in phantasm builds where they just keep their clones up the entire time and lolblurrfrenzy. They should not last that long, imo destroy that entire build and force mes to blow their clones.
Spectator doesn’t fix bad pvp… I’m willing to bet GvG would bring in a ton of GW vets, however ANet refuses to. Most serious pvpers have already quit, too little too late.
#conquestsucks
I recently started playing guild wars again cause i was busy for the past 5-6 months and had stopped playing.I decided to play a thief (Mostly for playing pvp). But after looking at the forums i lost any will to play a thief. All i hear is how nerfed and hated the class is and this is happening only to thieves(at least to this extent). So in the end making a thief is a waste of time? Because i would really hate to level a class to 80 and then realize that no matter what i won’t even be able to be average in pvp no matter how good I am?
Honest answer: Dont roll thief -not worth the grief and frustration you suffer from other professions and/or nerfs that seem to come on a monthly basis. (coming from a thief main since bew3.)
Vouch + don’t roll thief.
~also thief since BWE2
I can’t help but feel this change was done solely so those squishy little glass-cannons in PvP and WvW wouldn’t cry when being dumped on their squishy little heads. God forbid they slap some +Toughness armor on…just nerf the thief’s 45 second cooldown Steal – their class mechanic – that may or may not critical so Berserker Billy doesn’t get hit too hard.
Exactly, …berserker billy rofl
That combo was never hard to counter… see a thief with basilisk on him or casting it he is going to do one thing, open with steal. Good thieves don’t do this though and it does take skill to land a burst if your opponent isn’t mentally challenged. If you were dying to that you were never built properly anyway or simply don’t know how to play, especially as a guardian where you can easily counter that with a simple virtue.
It’s too difficult for the majority of players in this game to refrain from spamming their abilities instead of using them when they benefit you most so yeah thief is meant to be a punishing proff for newbs. L2P while thief continuously get nerfs as a weak class, BM rangers and D/D ele’s along with phantasm mesmers all being OP and basically playing themselves continue to run rampant. Funny that no one seems to notice, just because thieves are annoying. Ah almost forgot HGH…
Mug nerf totally not needed, and I would much rather have a source of protection on the thief than a crappy heal. It’s so obvious that devs don’t play this proff, they die just by getting breathed on.
I still haven’t logged in to experience the rest of it since I did the rox and the w/e the charrs name event, nor do I care to. Why bother with temporary content?
Temporary means you are forced to log in within a certain time frame to get everything done and see it all, that is BAD design. Enough of this living story crap, I don’t care for it.
It also just a total waste of all the hard work the team did to put it in the game, only to be seen for a month. I mean really that’s dumb. I feel kinda bad for those designers.
Wasted potential!
I never took month long breaks in GW1 like I do regularly in GW2, just sayin’. Currently the game has nothing going for it even in the long run unless they add a ton of build variety and fix a lot of stuff which would probably take ANet years to realize. At that point I’ll have just moved on to the next big thing like ESO or whatever new MMO comes out.
And temporary content is horrible. It’s all we’ve had so far…
When did you start playing GW1?
2005 I think? Not long after the game was released, I was there for the failings of trying to do ring of fire mission for like a month because it was hard as hell back then. GW1 didn’t need a bunch of content, build wars and amazing pvp saw to that.
IDK just try servers at random, I’m on Kaineng no idea if it’s working though.
The only trap that is worthy of the utility slot is Ambush. The rest should be F3-F4 so we can use them in conjunction with venom.
Example:
F1 – Steal
F2 – Needle Trap
F3 – Tripwire
F4 – Shadow TrapThen we can get new Utility skills to fill the 3 spots.
That would be the day I started playing religiously again.
No it’s not more involved, and I was using random build examples obviously.. pve is faceroll man everyone does the same rotations every time, don’t even try to deny it lol. Playing your build, all you do is get phantasms up and watch them pwn while you autoattack. I’ve played every proff and the most engaging character is the Elementalist, it’s unfortunate I don’t like caster classes because I would love for my thief to play that way.
inb4 sometimes you switch to S/S and blur frenzy.
I don’t know, dungeons are part of PVe and some of that stuff isn’t quite faceroll easy.
I will give you that one but even dungeons besides fractals are not hard with a competent group – in fact you see some decent play there, the only time I ever use my group utility. In places like CoF though it’s just zerg boss with quickness > collect loot > repeat.
I’ve been in groups where we take the slaver down in literally 7 seconds, it’s hilarious design. That is supposed to be a dungeon boss?? Youtube some dungeon speed runs for a good laugh.

Synergy is more entertaining to me than sitting there having my auto attack do a rotation, and yes they have a built in rotation. It’s just less engaging.
Why do you feel pressing 1 button as opposed to 4 is more fun? Rotations like in WoW aren’t just 1234 either, it all depends on the situation you’re in what skills you use after. I don’t always have 4-5 finishers on my rogue up. It isn’t that simple, sometimes I go straight for burst and ignore increased attack speed and healing which are more for prolonged fights.
There is never a be all end all rotation that you do every time. GW2 definitely has rotations they are just hidden well. Thief: autoattack until revealed done, stealth backstab repeat. Combat isn’t quite as dynamic in other MMOs but they certainly excel with skill usage and variety. Maybe if utilities weren’t on hilariously long cooldowns I wouldn’t get so bored? GW1 did it right with autoattack not being a skill, then having 8 skills to work with and you can change them out at any time in an outpost in a pool of thousands of skills, plus elites actually felt ELITE even with their incredibly short cooldowns in comparison of what we have now.
How we went from that to this is… I don’t even know. Baffling.
Lol. I’m glad I couldn’t give 2 kitten kats about WvZerg.
Becoming more like WoW every update. Stealth can now be detected, what’s next.. we take damage and it reveals us?
Lol wow rogue is so much better then gw2 thief. Doesnt even matter that it has at most 2x in combat stealth under cooldown or gets kicked out form stealth with aoes.
Agree, but I was mostly joking ;p
Stealth wouldn’t be a problem if ANet didn’t throw it in our face as the only viable means of CC/burst/survival. Now even more thief QQ to come, honestly don’t think it’s fair that they can get detected in stealth now but hey they will succumb to any thief crying on the forums so this was bound to happen eventually.
Stealth will now be 100% useless as a tactical move in to keeps and such, since you KNOW everyone will have the traps up. Good job, ANet!
