What Fractal Level are you running? There are three types, Vial, Shard and Crystal, depending on the Fractal level you are running. 1-9, 10-19, and 20+.
You can downgrade or upgrade the mist essences if you follow the mystic forge recipe in the Wiki.
Thanks for the responses.
I often PUG CoE as Guardian but I enjoy leaping the gate while waiting for the NPC. I find it easier to do on Warrior because I can’t seem to aim Guardian leap right.
When I fight Subject Alpha, I usually just bring the fire field consecrations for (potential) might stacking. Next time, I’ll be sure to maintain stability during the fight by saving Hallowed Ground for the actual fight and having Stand Your Ground to continue stability for longer fights.
(edited by Miaire.5468)
How do you prevent getting all your skills on cooldown when fighting Subject Alpha? I read somewhere before that it has something to do with the timing of breaking the crystals but I can’t remember.
Besides killing fast, is there anything (as a skill from any class, or actions) I can do to prevent it from happening to myself/my group? Or if not prevention, are there actions I can do to recover or help others recover from it if they don’t know how to themselves.
Thanks!

not knowing who The Masked Paradigm is, smh
Today I learned that it’s Paradigm, not Penguin.
I post in GW2 guru.
I am hoping they just convert it to some sort of currency in the future. And then you can buy ascended crafting items with some gold to offset the buyable crafting mat.
Sucks for people trying to save money on crafting 450 → 475 by compacting dusts/ores/fragments though.
Hi! I’ve started playing more Engi recently and I remember reading someone posting about Condi duration to keep up more Vulnerability. Any info on that?
I’m still running Ruby Orbs but planning to change it to Scholar Runes, just confirming if there’s anything about Condi duration I should know about.
EDIT: Sorry it could’ve been use Condi duration food, and not at all related to Runes and Sigils.
(edited by Miaire.5468)
Sad about what happened, but maybe it’s just a rare issue.
I’m trying to not get left behind when Engineers make a breakthrough so I’ve started playing more as Engineer in dungeons. I’m not a top-level player of [insert class here], but I played enough as warrior/guard to mostly know which weapons/skills/traits for which particular dungeon situation, and planning to extend learn Engi as well.
Any science on damage increase? And if it increases his condi damage as well?
Christ I hate that, with the deadeyes.
Are you on EU? I can show you it if you want. You need to be on a class with leaps though… preferably not ele because it’s really annoying with LH as opposed to savage leap.
Unfortunately NA. Thanks for the offer though.
Do people mind jumping in PUGs? I used the old one but only with friends and guildies to save time doing P3 and P4.
I sometimes pug Arah when I’m in the mood to see how many times someone lures trash mobs to the team to wipe everybody. Things have changed, however.
This happens to me when we start fighting bosses without the full party because some couldn’t do the skip. And then later they will succeed but they’ve brought the deadeyes with them for Belka. I usually just tell late comers/skippers to just wait until it’s finished if it’s possible to bring trash accidentally.
On the other hand, I really need to learn this mountain goat adventure.
I see alot of people posting about these ‘grief kickers’ or people kicking. But in 2 years of GW2 I have had it happen to me twice. And I pug about 95% of the time. Therefore I am forced to conclude that those people regularly being kicked are doing something to deserve it.
This.
I PUG a lot too, and have only been kicked twice. Once during the “COF path 1 zerk farm $$$” season because I’m using 4 Orb/2 Boon Duration Runes (thanks Strife). Second because I loaded really really slow on 2nd fractal (my toaster was acting up), although I did get back in because my friend created the party.
I PUGged quite a bit that even though I’m not a pro solo player, I can adapt to having 2-3 useless party members that don’t read and play how they want. Most of the time I can suffer without having to kick them. Yes, I wait for disconnected people too.
Most of the time, I make my own group so I worry a lot less. For the rest, I really just keep to myself, answer only when asked, say whatever info is needed, and just try to play well. If the group wants to do things in a particular way, I just follow regardless if I know a better way. I wouldn’t risk my time spent to lecture people. Wipe one too many times, I’ll carry a ranged weapon on swap if I don’t already.
I always link food/potions during dungeon runs just in case people do have them and just forgot.
But often times people just don’t care.
I don’t play Necromancer in Fractals but can’t you eat the damage with Death Shroud?
I kind of liked the old system too, although then I used to play longer hours. I can run the dungeon again after the account wide dungeon path reward restriction and get max rewards on an alt char. I also run dungeons with friends so now I feel forced that I have to save paths that I might run with them so I wouldn’t be running a not-so-rewarding run. But sadly Anet wants me to play how they want.
As for taking less than optimal characters, my friends haven’t been playing much so I pug a lot more. I join parties when my character matches the description.
I’ve been PVPing on my necro (staff/scepter) but I really enjoy the dagger animation so I look for non-restricted parties and run him there even if he’s only wearing rares.
Wow, I could save some inventory space across all chars if I can pool them all to a bank char.
I can’t bring myself to delete these soulbound superior runes.
Hi! It’s not really that big a deal, but I dislike re-running Twilight Arbor skips.
Sometimes it’s because of people/myself getting caught by Stonetouch spiders, and be unable to move. It doesn’t occur too often, but sometimes people die during those times and it’s hard to res/get ressed.
I checked gw2dungeons/did some search to learn more about it (Like where the petrify is coming from [I don’t pay too much attention so spiders look the same], if I can break it or not [no?], if I can stability through it [no?]).
I plan to try running TA more often, is there a trick I can do to minimize getting myself/others caught by it?
Class specific tips are ok. While I’ll probably play Mesmer for pugs (for putting up reflects for longer because of poor PUG DPS), I can play different classes.
Thanks!
Until pugs get less dead eles/thieves, less max range bear bows, less I don’t know what I’m doing engies and less condi-tank necros, war/guard/mesmer will always reign even if it is years behind meta.
Runs taking longer than it should be, is similarly boring as hell. Usually I don’t mind it, but most other people are not as patient.
(edited by Miaire.5468)
How do you cross the CoF P2 Magg Lava field section solo on a warrior running the meta build? (30/25/0/0/15 or 30/10/0/20/10)
I have a list of things that I plan to do in my head but my execution fails more often.
I haven’t identified which things are effective and often I just get a deer in front of the headlights moment and die to immobilize+flames.
1) Wait for the extinguisher or not
If I ask them to go port out earlier, I’d probably be able to get an extinguisher. But if I fail, there will be no one to back me up other than doing the long run of shame and asking people to come help.
If no extinguisher, I can just YOLO rush in, finish faster and feel awesome.
2) Not getting immobilized and survive burning if not running with the extinguisher
I don’t know if it was just because of the very old meta of having 30 traits in Discipline that warriors are able to just use Disc 10 Mobile Strikes to break out of immobilize using GS rushes and sword leaps but since that is long gone.
Skills:
Berserker Stance
Shake it Off
Endure Pain – Does it prevent Fire damage or no because it’s condition based? If not, is Bull Rush better
Traits I can probably swap:
Shrug it Off if running with Tactics 20
I can use but cooler if I don’t:
Harpy Feathers
Will the living story achievements for Edge of the Mists still possible to do after the upcoming patch?
Thanks!
I noticed the Molten Facility Fractal chest as well, I was like, “wait, is that all of it?”
I probably deserve it for stacking in the corner to avoid tests.
Since this feature is probably gonna be with us for a long time, maybe it’s time to understand why you’re getting kicked in the first place and improve on it.
Unless you just unluckily join pugs with random jerks that kick all the time, then nevermind.
How do you deal with the mobs at the end of tunnel at the Molten Furnace fractal?
I rarely had trouble with this really (rarely encounter), but there was one time where it was kinda bad (several wipes).
What we did was: Wait behind the 3rd/4th circle, pop stability/swiftness, run as a group, turn left and hide behind the rock. When the mobs appeared, we pop another stability, and everything we have: hammer guard auto for prot, knockdowns/stuns, timewarp, reflects, purging flames, warrior warhorn for weakness).
But then we still die from invisible mobs (they go invis) then the mobs pop up and some of us go down, and sometimes we don’t get a kill and we don’t rally.
Is there anything that we’re missing (a strat that will be better, a key dodge timing to avoid some burst, a way to prevent mobs from stealthing)? Or is it all just poor execution/party composition (1 or 2 people arriving late, getting stuck somewhere [I don’t understand how it happened either] )?
(Before I used to run with a thief and he dropped blind, I think those runs went ok)
I play Fractals with a mixed group of friends, some are running meta builds, some running outdated/defensive builds (thankfully not cleric), but we have enough alts to cover most areas so please feel free to suggest anything.
I’ve been busy with other things so I haven’t learned by pugging yet, so I decided to ask here. Thanks!
(edited by Miaire.5468)
I really want to get Marionette Muter but I’m having a difficult time because on several of my runs, the first 5th chain group always seem to fail it. It’s so frustrating when the other pads just can’t finish it. And then the 2nd/3rd 5th chain attempt are the ones that succeed.
On my side,
I’ve tried optimizing my build to make sure my pad will always get it (or have the best chance)
I’m either using a Fractal DPS Guardian build or straight DPS Guardian build, hammer autoattack on swap for perma protection, fire field for blasting might, 2H sword for pull, or some runs 1H Sword + Focus for extra blast and blocks. Hold the Line for regen/protection, Aegis for extra block.
For the others,
I shout stack and do melee DPS on map chat, ask a few from lane 1/2 with no sickness to go over lane 5 (adjust if a lane failed). I also say stack and melee DPS a few times before the fight starts.
I notice several of my runs are like this:
Chain 1234 – all successful
Chain 5 – lane 5, fail
lane 1, fail
lane 2, success
During lane 2, my portal sickness isn’t ready yet.
Sometimes I just wanna skip the 1st lane 5 so I won’t have sickness for 2nd/3rd attempt but it would be incredibly annoying if it succeeds.
Any advice?
I don’t know myself, but maybe they mean the clown car takes up 1 hit so instead of cleaving 3 enemies, you only get to cleave 2.
Which salvage kit do you guys use when salvaging for insignias?
Thank you for the techniques.
I love the slomo at 4:20!
I dislike contested dungeons also.
For example when I run with a PUG, and we’re doing well, finished 1 or 2 paths, preparing for another one then bam, entrance is contested and members of the group fizzle out.
Or another, friends and I are preparing to go to a dungeon. Sometimes they get indecisive and then when we finally get to it, entrance gets contested. Now we’re back at deciding what to do next.
There are many threads like this in this forums but I think Anet hasn’t addressed this matter other than saying it’s difficult to fix because of the way they designed it.
Don’t get too discouraged though. Not all parties are opened by clueless people/jerks, sometimes you’re just unlucky when it does happen. To minimize the risk, run with people you trust (friends/guild), or if pugging, open the instance yourself.
I’m having a hard time convincing some friends to drop AH on Guard.
I don’t want to be a nag so I try not to bring it up often but sometimes they say that they’ll retrait next time.
Or there was this one time where he complained how squishy he has been after retraiting.
This was on CoF path 2, spawning mob room. T\he reason why it’s difficult for him, and in effect, for the rest of us was because he was scepter-ing mobs and not having a stun break.
While the only time I like to have underwater fractal is when there is Daily Aquatic Slayer on, that sounds like a good way to add it.
I wasn’t able to do Aquatic for the Fractured achievement because of this.
Try posting in LFG with:
LF Slow/casual run or some variation of it.
Don’t join other people’s group unless they say the same because a majority of people in LFG just want to finish the dungeon as quickly as possible so they can do more with their time.
It’s also probably better to join a run with your guild/friends etc. because random people you’ve never met probably just came for the loot/run.
Hi all, I’m a member of FOTM and would recommend it to everyone who likes running fractals and to everyone with a good attitude. I leveled most of my levels from 30+ to 40+ with FOTM guild (pre-reset).
Many people are experienced and at the worst case, someone can bring an alts more suitable for the job/party composition. Also, I don’t worry about rage quitters, or if I might get insta-kicked near the end of the run.
There are no representation requirements unless doing Fractals, so even though I’m busy with WvW right now, it’s ok. Occasionally I get random PMs if I want to run Fractals level so and so, no need to reply if you’re busy, and it happens also even at odd times where no one seems to be playing so it’s a good way to find groups. The leaders are also good people, and are happy to help you out.

Better get over your fear of failure if you’ll choose to PUG it. Sometimes there are smooth PUG runs but no matter how much you watch videos and read up on strategy, you can’t say the same for the 4 other people you’ll be running with.
I was expecting the method of acquiring the new skill during the Living Story is significantly cheaper (or free after performing some sort of quest) than to acquire it normally based on the Dev post.
I am thinking if maybe it’s because of the pet that causes the Spider Queen to detect movement.
Ranger Sword #2 and #3 causes movement too.
I’ve been playing Fractals for a while but haven’t noticed that killing tenatacles damages him.
Does anyone know how much damage killing a tentacle deals?
Assuming 1v1 in sPVP, how are you supposed to deal with Hammer Bunker warrior?
(I was actually playing solo queue but neither his team nor my team was of any help. )
I’m using a clone death Sword/Pistol, Staff mesmer. The most I got off his HP was probably half. While my opponent was really much much higher in rank, and I’m still learning how to do well in spvp, but it was really like hitting a brick wall back at that match.
I’ve read a post somewhere that what I would need is poison and mobility.
Poison I don’t have access to, other than maybe some random effect from Chaos Storm. As for mobility, I also don’t have it. The best I could do is hit for 100-200 with my staff.
— I forgot where I read it but if anyone can post a link, I saw a thread last Thursday/Friday if that helps, I’d like to read it again.
(edited by Miaire.5468)
I’ve been using Outlaw from what I read before, but I am not sure if it was confirmed.
Does anyone know now?
Thanks!

So it is not hopeless. We can make our own groups if this one sample can be believed.
This proves that as long as everyone is on the same page when it comes to strategy, it can be completed.
But when one is playing hardball and insists on not following the strategy decided upon by the majority of the group, then the entire group will fail.
Stop being difficult if you are joining groups.
If you’re going to PUG, you really need to stop imposing on your “want to experience the game,” “play the way I want” unless you’re forming the group yourself and noting exactly that on your post.
For myself, and I suppose many others, we just want to finish this path as easily as possible. If stacking gets that done, I expect everyone to cooperate and help with stacking.
I’ve completed X path before, I’m done with running around like a headless chicken strategy. I just want this content done, get the rewards, say “thanks for the run!” and leave this random group of people I won’t remember after, and probably never see again.
AC has changed, the spider boss has changed. If the headless chicken strategy worked before, it definitely won’t work when 4 people expecting stack, and 1 person going range. The spider boss will kill the stack.
It’s that time again.
I plan to cram as many world 2 and tribulation mode (fat chance) achievements.
Until patch hits, having only 400 Baubles and have done most digging in World 1, if I start World 2 now, will I have enough Baubles to buy all upgrades?
Thanks!
I think everyone needs to be made aware that dodging when the tree shakes makes him not spawn spiders. I don’t understand why TA Forward/Up always only mean reflects + max DPS team composition to everybody, even pugs who can’t execute properly.
Reflect + max Power DPS should be the alternate but optimal strategy which makes nightmare tree go down faster.
I faked my way by acting experienced in running Arah P3, then P2, and finally P1.
I finished P4 by opening it myself, and getting a group of friends that gear or can swap to gear berserker.
Preparation
- Watched Strife’s video
- Read the guide from gw2dungeons and incgamers
Some things that are different on my PUG run compared to Strife’s video, like P3:
- Crusher was pulled to a different location free of risen, separating him from the Hunter
- I’m bad at running back then, I didn’t make it to Magecrusher, the PUG group 3 manned it
- All phases of Lupicus were fought ranged. Range stack on P1
(edited by Miaire.5468)
Same boat as you, but I’ve given up and decided to either:
- sleep early and wake up during NA prime time
- sleep very very late, take down Teq and go to sleep
Gotten Teq twice, 6 AM and 4:30 AM (last night), on my timezone
Hi! Can I request an invite please?
I plan to join Teq take downs, even daily, and have VOIP programs ready
This was safe and easy, margin of error is larger. We would’ve done the optimal method if everyone could do it like that , sadly not everyone is specced for it, nor attentive enough to dodge properly all the time, so we had to do the alternative way.
Strategy 2 from Wiki worked, but the person standing in front still has to do some dodging during shake. I dodged sideways to maintain aggro range so the tree doesn’t reset.
Rangers back at 1500 range didn’t have to do any dodging, just continually attack tree
Missing 1 dodge seem to spawn around 3-4 spiders. Often small ones, sometimes 1 Recluse. Near the end, all 3 of us non-rangers are in front ranging + dodging during shake.
I hope I can get them to try other strats with me, if someone decides to come back here.
If my computation is correct, and you always run an even fractal once per day that is at least equal to your level (day 1 = fractal 1+, day 2 = fractal level 2+, day 3 and 4 = fractal level 4+ …):
day 22 – 1439 relics, enough for 1350 relics, exotic back
day 27 – 1915 relics, enough for 1850 relics, ascended back
day 32 – 2441 relics, enough for 2350 relics, infused back (Beta)
This doesn’t include:
- running lower level fractal for daily chest
- buying infusions to not die from agony
You’ll get it faster if you run more fractals in a day though.
(edited by Miaire.5468)
Thanks for all the feedback, I’ve gotten the response I need, which is, strategy 2 in the Wiki (pull+ranging) still works. All that’s left is for the one in a group to come online so we can get this over with, maybe some time this weekend.
I’m aware of the other strategies listed here in these thread, where max dps + reflect being optimal.
Unfortunately, organizing and build policing is not my line, so I will steer our strat to a more fail-safe method.
