Anet don’t like harassment, so they will act if they have prove of it. Reporting such people is the right thing to do. Those have to be removed from the game in order to protect other players.
Don’t forget, there are kids who play here too. We have to do our best to protect them from such crowds.

No, once you fixed it and restarted your PC the game should show the right tasks for today. At least that was the way to go for the other cases. I linked the thread for this problem.

The problem is caused because the PC and server time are not in sync. I have never heard the server to be wrong.

@RaveRumble: Kill Variety is not the task for today. Look in the link I provided from the wiki. It tells exactly what should be the daily achievement for today. Check your list with the wiki list. If it is not the same, it is your PCs clock that runs a different time or date.

First, there is a cooldown involved in the change. If you really made an error the first time you tried, you will have to wait 2 hours.

Read Brian’s text about the hacked sites again. He is the one to say which kind of variation is used by the hackers. It is not far off to assume that Anet added the same kind of variety to their way of checking against the blacklist.

The blacklist – as I understood the information about the mandatory change – contains the list of passwords from hacked sites plus the passwords that have been in use with GW2.
In fact it seems to be 2 lists – one blacklist plus one list of used passwords. I don’t like to call the old passwords to be part of a blacklist, just because many passwords there have been ok.

A bit of theory which came out of years of practice. As Gaile said, I don’t need to know how the sausage is made, I just eat it. Although there are lot of ways to do things, I strongly believe, that a designer for security features will try his best to keep the data safe. And he will always check for improvements, because the bad guys are not sleeping either.

Some of the special event letters fill up the private email of 10 letters too, but they don’t show up on the counter.

Hearts or exploration letters are ok. They are NOT private mails, so they can stay.

The question is not “what is in the blacklist” but more “is it sufficiently protected”?
If I would do a design of something like that, I would never put the blacklist or it’s access on the frontline – that is on a server, that can be reached via the internet. I would put it behind any kind of security walls and the question would be passed from their own server to the blacklist system. That system would check and it would only give few possible answers:

  • ok
  • not ok – maybe with an error code

Even the question could be coded. So their would never be a password flowing forward and backward all the time. Only when a new password will be choosen, is any need to get access for writing the new password. There is no need to read the password AND send it to the public server. Just one way – getting a password in. Anything else for outward bound is either yes or no. No clear text necessary.

Otherwise, if each map shows full completion, is the sum of all those hearts equal to the complete sum.

  • some maps have hearts not finished yet
  • some hearts count on the map, but not on total (should be worth a ticket)
  • some maps are missing yet

I guess that the current mandatory password change is partly for getting all players away from their assumed standard password. The change will unlink GW2 accounts from all other accounts and websites.

The problem I see, are the new players. If there password is not on the blacklist, they might reuse a password that is new for Anet but common for the new player. In order to give them the same security level as all the old players are getting now, there will have to be a mandatory password change for new players down the road as well.

There are several options:

  • make a mandatory password change for every new player once (after 1, 2 or 3 months) or
  • repeat the mandatory password change for all players within a limited time (1 or 2 years maybe) or
  • combine both methods mentioned above.

I would opt for the first option, because it may cause less revolutionary feelings in some players while giving easy security advantages.
The most secure way would be the last option.

Do you really believe, they would answer such security related question? If they would do that, they would open the door to any would-be-attacker.
So, I guess that you won’t get a satisfying answer.

BTW I would think, that the information is available in clear form. Believing that it might be stored in hash-form is an idea, that I have found nowhere. When it is about security most sites using passwords don’t tell much. So, anything is possible.

For me it is insignificant, how the passwords are saved or compared. There is only one thing that matters: is the procedure safe and are the stored informations safe.

It is not you who has been hacked (not in the real meaning of that term), it has been other websites that have been hacked and lots of emails and passwords have been harvested. As explained by Brian those looted details have been used to gain access to GW2 accounts – even if those never existed yet. When there have been numericals in it, they might have tried one number up and one number down, if that didn’t work, they tried the next email / password combination. No brute force attack. The attackers simply KNEW the necessary combination.
So, Anet blacklisted those combinations and maybe some small variants from it (just like I explained). But this approach only covers the spilled or harvested known websites and combinations. What this did show, was that to many people used email and passwords for almost anything they do in games or accounts. THIS is the group that Anet is targetting now. By forcing anybody to change their passwords they hope to unlink GW2 accounts from those combinations that have NOT been harvested from other websites yet.
That don’t change the situation for any NEW customer of GW2, but it improves security for most that are playing GW2 already. For some people – like me – it would not have been necessary, because I had a unique combination for GW2 already, but that is something that Anet cannot know. To be on a safe side Anet could not do something else.

Attention: But Anet will have to FORCE any new player to change the password at least once. Otherwise the new players may fall victim to the same “reuse mail and password” trap too.

There is a cooldown period. If it failed once, you need to wait 2 hours for trying again.

I would say just go ahead. Of course I would not consider that the normal way, but if you know, you can do it better, why not give it a try. People at support are human beings and they will try to be understanding as well.

@Avani Silver: password and email change can be done using support if the normal ways don’t work. That it is not working, is not a general problem. I did my password change successfully several days ago.
If people put there valuable belongings behind a smoke screen of same passwords? IMHO that is really childish. All that Anet tries to do is to secure our lazy bottoms. That Persons that are shouting now “I don’t need it” will be the ones that are crying loudest “help me” when they are trapped. Nothing is 100% secure. Anybody should know that. Trying to improve security is never bad, but it is always additional work.

What if someone sent ticket and didn’t recieve any informations for 2 days? My neightbour has the same problem and he can’t login to account and doesn’t recieve any answers.

For any ticket older than 3 days without an answer, there is a special sticky thread on this page. Post the ticket number and some information and Gaile will ask for a review there.

They only know the passwords from sites that have been attacked. They DON’T know the passwords used on numerous other sites. By blacklisting ALL existing passwords, they attempt to get NEW and UNIQUE passwords for every GW2 player. If some of them recycled passwords on several sites, they are now forced to change to a new one. It IS a healthy movement, but it won’t help those that had unique passwords already.

So, I guess they will have to ask all new players to do the same too. Somewher in the future. Maybe after they played it for 2 or 3 months.

Your achievements will be exported via Kimmes the Historian in Eye of the North of GWEN. You can see them with the external Hall of Monuments calculator, which you can call by talking to Kimmes in GW1 too.
In GW2 you receive a stone (or you pick it up at a trader for free in Lion’s Arch – some first characters don’t get it automatically). With the help of the stone you go to the Hall of Monuments and there you talk to the ghostly Kimmes, who offers most of the benefits.

As you need Kimmes, I guess you need GWEN too.

It might have to do with the Hall of Monuments.
There has been an update on it close to release of GW2. For getting the HoM up-to-date, you have to enter GW1, visit the Eye of the North and talk to Kimmes the Historian. You request him to show your achievements in GW1 (I switched from account view to character view and back again), Then you ask him to open the external HoM calculator. There you look at your achievements too. You can exit now and you can enter GW2 again. Go to Lions Arch and enter the cave of bandits in the northwest of the map. One of the first traders after the vista has the stone for free.

Don’t forget that your GW1 account after linking has the same email and password as your GW2 account.
And you can get the benefits of linking only if you have the extension Eye of the North on your account of GW1 (I have not seen that you own it, therefore I’m adding this too). You can get achievements only when GW1 has that chapter too.

While a huge mail might raise a few eyebrows in the security reviews, that alone would not be at all likely to cause you to be suspended.

Your phrase ‘would not be at all likely’ is worrying, given its implications.

There are humans checking the facts and humans sometimes make mistakes.
Don’t get yourself into a frenzy about this. Usually sending money or mats to friends is no problem. I am sure that there are more telltale signs to point out gold sellers. Sending something via mail is and should not triggering a ban.

I guess, yes. If a server chage is possible for free after all characters are deleted, it must be because there is nothing left to be changed to a different world. So the bank will probably go with the last character.

Yes, that should be okay. Usually you can tell your email that a mail from special addresses are never considered to be spam. You have to tell your email system that this email address is ok. The problem of not receiving mail from them should be ok then.

In any case where you have problems, you should make up a ticket. They can tell, which addresses should be cleared form the spam. And most of all they can help with any individual problem to get into the game.
It may take some time, but until now they solved ANY problem that I had.

I’m European, but there are many European names that don’t use their countries native set of letters. I don’t know why I should show off my origin anyway. It’s my real christian name, that I tend to use, whenever possible for a display name in games. For characters and account names I prefer different settings. That satisfies my own security needs.

Look at your account / security tab on this page. You should see the IPs from which your account has been accessed. If you have some from strange places (for example China, while you live in USA), you should delete those IP ranges and you should do as Jinx has suggested.

For changing the email address as for anything else you want, you have to contact support. You don’t have to make a support account. Just choose which email address you would like to use and submit a ticket. The answers will be mailed to that email address too and you will be able to add informations later that way as well.

As such a limit is a protection against Gold Sellers, I wouldn’t like this information made public. The bad guys like to have those informations too, in order to circumvent it.

At the same time I guess it might not be the only limit for mailing. I think I encountered a limit in sending to many mails in to short of time. Other limits might be thinkable too.

Ingame tickets don’t give answers. That is already given as a hint when you submit a ticket.

The achievements are done according the server time settings, but they are shown to you according your PC’s time settings. If you check and correct these time settings the two settings would fit again and you will earn the achievements you are looking for.

But I was thinking along the lines of moving things from account to account, while both accounts belong to the same guild and are residing on the same server.
For character to character transfers we have the bank.

I mailed too between my 2 accounts, because you will have to build the guild up for having a bank there. But if I would run into any troubles, I would choose the guild bank.
I added that only, so that everybody can see, that I see the problems, limitations and probable solutions. Nothing is perfect though.

Why don’t you use a guild for exchanging stuff and money between your accounts?

I bought both accounts I own online.
Most of the game is download anyway.

But I think that modern games always offer an option to choose the folders. And by choosing folders, you can select the drive as well. I always put Games in special Game folders.
Modern games for Windows try to put safes, configs and screenshots in special game folders within “my documents”. I think this might be changed sometimes too, but I’m to lazy to do that.

Usually the location declared by the ISP and the place you are residing are not the same. Mostly it is close, but it can be about 200 km away too. I’m from Germany and I get told I’m either Cologne or Frankfurt. So don’t worry, if it is the same country but somewhat distant to you.
When you get some IP from China, I would be worried. Maybe I would be worried if it is not Germany (in my case).

In both cases write one ticket to support to get them to help you out. You just need a working email. You don’t need the account to reach them, but you have tp provide some information to establish that you are the legit owner.
