Spending weeks being forced to farm SW

Not sure why you MUST farm spirit shards? You can choose how you play the game. The way I play has nothing to do with spirit shards. Whatever you WANT them for, you don’t NEED them.

With you’re reasoning, I’m FORCED to play sPvP in order to get the rank 80 emote that I obviously MUST have or the game will be unplayable….

I tried the Windows circle thing and it was subpar. Especially since Ctrl is used as a combo key and my object name visibility key that I use constantly. It’s distracting from the actual game. I shouldn’t have to distract myself from the game to find the cursor.

Yes let’s just skip this stage we’re in called game development and polishing and release a broken game.

Elite specs are inherently pigeonholed by making you fill up a trait slother mandatory. They won’t take over because they can be as diverse as the base classes.

If you were there for the beginning of the game you have the honor of snagging an interesting name or two. I got the name “Sergeant Grumbles” when the game released but deleted that character and someone else came along and grabbed it at some point in time.

Just try to be original, and don’t get too obsessed with one and only one possible name for a character

I usually think up one name then take some time thinking of a last name or a prefix to suite the name and the character.

No reason to wipe the names just so you can have some boring unoriginal name. Did I cry when I couldn’t name my character Ian Boyd? I should’ve, but I didn’t. It’s okay.

Thief or Ranger?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Mo Mo.1947

Mo Mo.1947

WvW
Ranger is pretty all around, and can serve a purpose in group battles. Thief isn’t the most useful in group battles, and is more about solo or small group play. If you want to excel in small group or solo play, both ranger and thief are good for that, but thief has more options when it comes to solo or small group play, imho.

If you want an all-arounder, go Ranger. Really ranger can be an all-arounder in any part of the game… But if you want to really focus on small group play in WvW thief would be better.

PvE
Ranger is more survivable in PvE, imho, and the pet is a great way to distract enemies and ball them up so you can smack em dead fast without taking much damage on yourself. For a reliable casual PvE experience, go ranger.

Thief is really fun in PvE, can be quite effective with things like the sword 3 skill, and is the quickest at moving around the map due to a wide selection of teleportation skills and some speed buffs. If your gear isn’t up to your level you can be a bit squishy though.

In General (PvP thoughts included)
Ranger you can seriously play generally the same way in any part of the game, be it PvE, PvP, or WvW. Thief really has to change things up to be optimal in each gamestyle. When it comes to PvP, it’s all about what you can win with.

For example I main thief and ranger mostly and do well with my thief in both WvW and PvE, and really enjoy doing map completion with my ranger, but I actually use a necro in PvP, because that is the class I’m able to win with most.

If you want to be successful in PvP, you really have to just try out the different classes until you find something that clicks. It may be a character you already have. If you think ranger or thief is your PvP go-to, I’d try out both on a newbie character, just going into PvP and then remaking it into the other class to try them both out before making a decision. Otherwise you may find that another class entirely is your forté in sPvP. If you already have a class you do well with in sPvP, don’t worry about sPvP when making your decision. Stick to what you win with in sPvP and don’t try to make a class work. Don’t work for a class in sPvP, find the class that works for you.

Conclusion
Otherwise, for a consistent playstyle, go ranger. If you like to mix it up and fool around a bit with stealth trollery, and aren’t afraid to get your kitten kicked from time to time, go thief.

HoT no WvW love?

There is a new WvW Map that replaces the current borderlands maps. That’s HUGE change. Also they mentioned the current borderlands maps will come back with some changes. Meaning there will be at least two types of borderlands that could rotate weekly or seasonally or something. That’s a huge change!

WvW is an end in and of itself. You don’t need much change to completely revitalize it because it’s not about the map, it’s about the players on the map. Changing maps just keeps the ideas fresh so people don’t fall into a trench of meta stagnation.

Changing up the map is a HUGE change that can revitalize the entire game, not to mention how much specializations themself will alter the state of play in WvW.

Legenday Backpiece Worry

Legendary backpieces are not required to play and enjoy the game, so no you’re not forced to do anything related to crafting them. Legendary pieces are the same strength as ascended backpieces so you are only “forced” to do the minimum necessary required effort/gold expenditure to get an ascended backpiece with the stats you desire.

Downed skills balance (sugestions)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mo Mo.1947

Sounds like you need some more health, toughness, or healing in your build so you’re not near death whenever you down someone. Go less glass cannon or avoid damage better and you should be able to have enough health to either beat dead a downed necro or stomp it. Equal balance in downed state would throw off the balance of the classes when they aren’t downed.

So before the physics changes they weren’t actively working on it because not many people played it the second time around(according to ArenaNet’s metrics)and now it’s because of physics changes?

Or nah?

I didn’t play much because,

1. I didn’t have time in the short amount of time it was released since I am a casual player, and also because,

2. I recall that they released SAB v2 during the same period of time as a WvW event. (Or if not WvW then some other time-limited event) I had to choose between the two events and the other event required more of my time.

If they think not enough people are playing, then GIVE us CASUALS a BIGGER time window to play it and DON’T release it at the same time as other limited time events!!

I really wanted to play SAB a lot more but I didn’t even get the first part done let alone get a chance to do part two.

SAB to me seemed like the kind of thing I would play even if the rewards weren’t huge. I don’t know why it can’t be a seasonal event in itself for the summer every summer for at least a months time.

Like how we have Halloween and Wintersday.

I know they like to make new stuff every year for those but they really don’t even have to do that much. GW1 seasonal events were largely the same every year with just a few little changes and I was perfectly happy with those seasonal events.

Megaservers and upcoming WvW changes

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Mo Mo.1947

In my opinion, they’re better off scrapping the entire server system for WvW and do a type of 3-way faction thing. Something like a cross of ESO and Factions.

Really bad idea on many levels

Yeah because fighting the same people over and over is going so well. Allowing for a mass server change won’t fix that as you’re not dealing with the source of the issue.

Lol you dont get it do you.

What you have suggested is just EOTM. So if that is what you want, you know where it is.

No. EotM is what it is because of the relative close points to cap and that it offers no incentive to defend. There’s no difference between winning and losing. If it was part of the regular WvW maps in place of the copy and pasted borderlands, you’d see a much different map than you do currently.

There’s no incentive to defend is right. EotM doesn’t award points to your home server and hardly does anything else for it either. Thus the only reason to play EotM is for personal gain, aka continually capping points by letting your points be capped and refreshed.

Even if you put it on a larger map, it would still be a personal gain play with no incentive to help your team win. Megaserver WvW would have the same shortcoming as EotM regardless of the size or layout of the map.

Server transfer sales support WvW upkeep. And prevent some level of match manipulation. You’ve already got tons of people who got spy accounts when the game was on sale. No need to bring more chaos in by letting people do a chaotic mass shuffle. If everyone was transferring all at once every server could become a mix mash of random people who have never played together before. I don’t think that would please the majority.

Why can't I hold all these Spirit Shards?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mo Mo.1947

The only other things you used skill points for besides MF were things you now get just from leveling up and using help points. If you came this far not complaining about extra skill points, you should consider you now have more of what you had before since you would’ve likely used some of your skill point scrolls for getting actual skills on some of your characters.

Just do whatever you have been doing with extra skill point scrolls up to this point. And if you were hoarding them, don’t complain like your situation has changed. Take the initiative and trade your shards in for sellable items so you can get more gold to buy whatever you like.

Guilds who run 100% rep

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Mo Mo.1947

Mo Mo.1947

100% Rep guilds are garbage. If they were a good guild they wouldn’t need to ask you to rep all the time because their members would WANT to rep most the time.

Definitely steer clear of scrubby influence-mongering guilds that have nothing better to do than demand 100%.

All the “legitimate” arguments for why a guild would ask for 100% are just legitimate excuses for not being able to run the guild properly.

You should rep the guild when you do things with them, and rep them when you want to support them passively by playing the game under their tag. If you find another group with other shared interests, you should rep them the same way you rep the first.

All of this is of course, courtesy. There’s no moral code of honor that says you HAVE to do anything regarding the guilds you are in.

Can't we get ALL selectable stats for betas?

in Revenant

Posted by: Mo Mo.1947

Mo Mo.1947

So tons of people are complaining about revenant not doing as well as they want and I’m looking at this new class thinking gear might be a big issue. Different playstyles need different gear, and I think this beta isn’t giving revenants the gear they need for certain testable playstyles.

I think the “test” aspect of this beta test would be more testable if we could select any of the armor/weapon stats available as options for lvl 80 characters. Especially considering the way traits work now where you have to boost stats with your gear only.

Sinister, Zealot’s, and Nomad’s aren’t available options and I think that at least one of those would be pretty viable on a revenant.

You do need to keep in mind European servers vs NA servers. You can’t guest or share a megaserver with NA if you’re on EU, and vice versa.

This is something I discovered trying to use the “Join In…” feature with someone in my party. It didn’t let me visit their instance because they were on a EU server.

Why are Revenant's traits SO bad?

in Revenant

Posted by: Mo Mo.1947

Mo Mo.1947

the dps sucks on revenant. going as offensively as physically possible at this point in time, i swear it felt like i was doing negative damage. i want a dps option for traits, and a dps legend to try out, or at least a decent condi set up. if i wanted to play a healer i would go to a different game.

Or you could play a different class? Not everyone will like the playstyle of the Revenant or have an affinity for making it most useful.

If all you want is DPS why not just play the classes that are already doing a great job of it. The Revenant won’t be everyone’s favorite or main class. There are 8 classes already and I don’t like playing every single one of them. Like seriously. Why does every class need to be a pure DPS build for you? Just don’t play the ones that aren’t set up for that. Nothing about Revenant screams high DPS. You shouldn’t be surprised by your experience.

Also you’re playing with Celestial armor and weapons if you’re going with the armor it starts you with. That’s gonna bring down your damage as well.

Why use 3rd Spec slot for Elites?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Mo Mo.1947

Mo Mo.1947

This is strictly a user interface thing. The third slot might as well be the first slot on the list. The only thing that matters is that you can only equip 1 elite spec.

Once you are level 80 the order of your specs doesn’t matter.

1st – 3rd slot are the exact same thing when you’re not talking about elite specs. Just like how each spec has 3 traits you can choose from, and they are all available at once so thinking of them as a progression is completely moot once you are at level 80. Instead of making trait choices a line connected with bolts of lightening they could’ve just as easily made it a circle with 6 points on it. 3 for the minor traits and 3 for the selectable traits.

Not sure why anyone would mention lore when talking about something that is strictly a user interface issue.

If you talk about lore regarding the trait selection window you might as well be trying to figure out the lore of the log-in screen or the lore of the mouse cursor.

To my knowledge, arenanet has never stated anywhere or even implied anywhere that all new elite specs will get a unique weapon that isn’t shared by another.

Please do prove me wrong though. I’m quite curious where people are getting the idea from.

I’m curious as well since you’re the first person to say two different specs could get the same weapon. Everyone else has been speculating on the premise that no two specs get the same new weapon type.

I’d like to see a renewed link to what spawned the idea.

Given that this is the only thread of its particular kind, complaining about auto trait assignment, and that most people would reason that going around collecting hero points and leveling a bit more would get them to what they desire faster than deleting characters and starting FROM SCRATCH, I’d say this aspect of the trait update had the most minimal negative impact on the playerbase of all changes to the games they’ve released so far.

Traits are completely unnecessary before you hit level 80. A few traits are nice and all but it really doesn’t affect gameplay at lower levels. If you are struggling to play effectively workout traits before max level, you need to buy better armor and weapons that address close to your level.

The pregame (before max level) is easy mode as long as your gear isn’t underleveled.

The new maps, new specialisations, masteries, exploration content – all of which are being implemented based on community feedback and requests, do not sound like fluff to me. Sound like exactly what expacs normally contain. I can name plenty of expacs that have contained far less.

Let’s not forget the entire expac was based on community request and required them to change their business model.

I don’t understand why someone would come in here asking for their utility options to be limited when some classes already have enough utilities that are close to mandatory.

Fall damage is a niche situation that only occurs in certain kinds of gameplay situations. People can be running a variety of builds in those situations and utilities are significant to rounding out a build. Fall damage isn’t a build, it’s a situation.

Fall damage reduction has been a trait for 3 years. Any difficulty you’re facing incorporating it into your trait setup now with the new trait system would only be more aggravating if it was stuck on one particular skill out of the entire skill pool…

Given the price of other MMOs including the upfront cost and the monthly subscriptions for some of them like WoW, I just don’t think it’s unreasonable for ANet to ask you to spend more than $60 total on a game that they’ve been putting years of work into. You paid $10 when the accounts were on sale then you’ll pay $50 for the expansion.

You’re getting a heck of a deal, friend. If you didn’t plan to spend even $10 more on the game ever again I’d say they’re not losing much. Not quite even 6 months playing the game and you don’t have an alt you could sacrifice if you really wanna play Revenant? You can’t have made that much significant progress on all 5 characters.

If you have then just spend 100 gold on buying a character slot.
