[SPOILER] Question about Taimi's machine

in Lore

Posted by: Moonyeti.3296

Moonyeti.3296

That’s really confusing, as you said, why would he bring it to Primordus, and why would the machine have a clearly visible energy link to Prim. Also, can Balthazar, god of fire, would be fine if he absorbed Jormag’s magic (ice magic)? Or does the dragon energy has no element when in its pure form? I’m guessing Balth got overwhelmed by the power, not knowing that he was absorbing two polar-opposite magics and got destroyed (if he really is gone though).

Your theory about taking it to the volcano so the player can’t follow him makes sense, but this is still really confusing

Balthazar isn’t dead, he vanished but the devs mentioned that we have not seen the last of him. Also, Balthazar is the god of fire, but the gods use divine magic that seems to be immune to dragon corruption, so he could probably use the magic from whatever dragon happened to be feeding it into the machine.

And yeah, it is STILL confusing at this point.

I’d really go for GW1’s PC.

The reason is, aside from all the OP stated, he also fought powerful shining enemies, to learn really powerful spells and skills. He was truly the leader of all that happened, and could gather friends and powerful heroes.

In front of him, GW2’s PC is a lame guy used as a doormat by most of his friends, isn’t truly respected, has Taimi explain him what to do all the time, and provide him with tech to fulfill whatever he cannot do. Left alone, that poor guy could only wipe in front of each and every people on Tyria that is more powerful than him, like Jennah, or Valette Wi for Mesmers. He’s merely a doll in a coconut following the stream of events, and obligingly performing whatever Taimi tells him to do.

I think you may be forgetting about Kormir.

[SPOILER] Question about Taimi's machine

Moonyeti.3296

The plan was originally to use the machine to pit the energies of Jormag and Primordus against each other, so the machine was set up for that purpose when Balthazar stole it. When big B then gets inside the machine and uses it, he is intercepting that energy for himself. Since he had it right next to Primordus, we saw the effects on Primordus, but the same thing was happening to Jormag far away. When the machine was on it was working on both dragons at the same time. Now, if it works at such long ranges, why would B bring it right next to an elder dragon? I am guessing because B had a base of operations already set up nearby, and since the player couldn’t immediately follow him into the volcano it worked as a stalling tactic.

You can type /jump in guild wars 1 to make your hero jump

Also you do not need the newest mastery to complete the map. I did not get my new mastery until I finished mapping it. Where there is a will there is a way.

Yeah, if you are doing all the achievements that is one thing, but if you are just completing the map and story IMO the new mastery isn’t really even that helpful. I had the mastery points to spare so I unlocked it well before I finished the map, didn’t really use it for the story steps at all.

The new mastery is awesome, but not needed.

two words, thermal tubes.
You can get from the submarine to Rata Arcanum in a few seconds if you’re willing to jump in them:

so here you go, a map, please forward it to everyone who says the map is hard to navigate.
Thermal Tubes take you literally everywhere

No, there are places like Golemancer’s Tomb and Druid’s Grotto that are very difficult to find / get to. And when the events happen there, a lot of people don’t bother because of that fact.

Golemancer’s Tomb is easy with the tubes as well. Start at the waypoint at the merc camp. Take the tube a few feet away that shoots you west toward the center of the map at Titan’s Throat. Where you land you can see another tube just across the lava river, take that to just north of the tomb.

For the druid grotto, the trick is getting to know which ledge you drop to from above. Again starting at the merc camp waypoint, run west to the nearby cliff and fall off. There is a series of ledges as you fall down the cliff, one has a particularly flat and featureless surface. If you land on this ledge it leads back north east through a cave that goes to Druid’s Grotto. The trick is identifying the cliff face the first time, but once you know what you are looking for you can get to druids grotto very fast from that waypoint.

Question about the device

Moonyeti.3296

They aren’t dead, Primordus and Jormag were put in their ‘pre-awakening state’ which to me, sounds like they were put into a hibernation. Taimi’s machine can kill the 2 elder dragons by forcing their energy to interact with the opposite dragon, but we realised at the last second that if we kill anymore dragons the world will be destroyed. Then Balthazar steals the machine and uses it against primordus. Since we don’t want the dragons to die, we are fighting against Balthazar to make sure he doesn’t destroy the world by killing a dragon.

Yes but how?

How does this machine harness magic energy that is unique to each dragon and force itself against each other?

I dont want to reach about the balance because thats obviously something Anet has for the future but are we not suppose to know how things work?

If your a cook and a guests ask me ( the waiter) whats in your special, i should know whats in it right?

I understand the base points of the story, dragons bad/ god of war bad/ killing dragons bad- im just no under standing the how.

How many ex-machina ghosts things will pop up to help us for no real reason? The commander literally says something like “tami im helping my ghost friends out” and taimi is like ’HUH" and im sitting here watching it like HUH?

For instance Queen Jenna made the Bayonettes to help protect Tyria, scarlett turned them against us. Thats another cases where we are behind tech wise to the enemy.

Here we are again where we have this device uses dragon magic of sort against one another. Can we not use this for other things? The other dragons are absorbing the magic to make there minions stronger.

Can we not do anything with it?

After Zhaitan and Scarlett i simply have more questions about the story then anything else.

For instance Braham does some research and finds a lost artifact, boom can hurt jormags tooth now.

Taimi creates a device that can kill 2 dragons?

We have engaged into battle with a god, we were a wolf spirit for a norn PS level and we were super OP so ill take a guess and say we shouldnt be able to fight a god 1 vs 1 and win it but we ran in there and did.

We fought a god so we could get this machine which can kill 2 dragons …… how does it do that?

How? By Anet pulling things out of nowhere just to have shocking reveals and the like. The same way everything else has worked since HoT basically. Come up with a gimmick and retrofit the story around it.

Thank you for all the dragon insight (stuff I already knew), but still no answer to the important questions about the Gods and the Eternal Alchemy and what the dragons have to do with either.

That is because only the devs have this knowledge. There has been a ton of fan speculation about the 6 orbs being related to the 6 gods and / or 6 dragons, but nothing directly correlating everything has been put in the story yet. Is the number 6 coincidence? Are the dragons some kind of reflection or counterpoint to the gods? We don’t know. We know the dragons were on Tyria long before the 6 gods, but that doesn’t really say if they are or are not related to the 6 gods in some way.

What did kasmeer do to make Marjory mad at her is Lady Kasmeer Meade must been working for him cause she know his mirror. It was special—enchanted by Lyssa herself. Is the queen lyssa ?

If the Queen is Lyssa, then who is Blaine? (the dumb butt from the well)

Blaine is the Rat King, the rising star of Tyria. Who do you think stole Balthazar’s power in the first place? That’s right, Blaine.

Legendary Armor: Feedback [merged]

I understand it is to be a time sink, but as someone that finds it difficult to schedule enough time in one sitting to even get in a raid, let alone do them enough times for the reward I wish there was another avenue. I don’t mind spending the long time, as long as I can do it in short sessions. But thankfully the legendary is never needed to complete content, I have made do just fine with ascended and exotic thus far. So if it remains a decision to keep the armor locked in raids, bummer, but I can live with it.

[spoilers] Dragons + Eternal Alchemy = logic?

in Living World

Posted by: Moonyeti.3296

Moonyeti.3296

Okay, let me sum things up, and please correct me if I got something wrong:

  • The Eternal Alchemy’s structure, as displayed to us, is defined by the realm of life (i.e., Tyria and any other possibly existing worlds/planets) in its center, surrounded by all the other orbs, which represent the dragons (?).
  • We defeated Zhaitan and Mordremoth, and then discovered that, everytime we kill a dragon, the others absorb its powers.
  • Taimi’s ancient apparatus, which she modified, was supposed to kill Primordus and Jormag by “letting their powers clash” and thereby cancelling one another out, correct?
  • Then Taimi discovers that, by doing so, the Eternal Alchemy would become unstable and implode, thus killing all life.

I don’t understand the logic in any of this.

  1. Why didn’t the world collapse when we killed Zhaitan and Mordremoth? By said logic we would already have screwed up the Eternal Alchemy. Is it just the method that Taimi intended to use that would have led to the world’s destruction? If so, that means we can still try to defeat Primordus and Jormag by natural means, i.e. by killing them in combat, right?
  1. I always assumed the surrounding orbs in the Eternal Alchemy’s model were the Gods, not the dragons. So which one is it? How can the dragons be those “orbs” when they are located in our world, not in “space”? I mean, the Gods made sense since their “physical presence” on Tyria was provided by them “visiting” our world in the form of avatars, which is not the same as with the dragons (unless the dragons are Gods, too, like the “corrupted part of the patheon”).

Someone enlighten me and put some logic and the seemingly illogical developments we were presented with in LWS3.

We did screw things up by killing Z and Mordy. The layline anomalies, all the excess energy overflowing everywhere, the dragons minions getting powers from other elder dragons. We didn’t see immediate bad things happening after we killed Z, but by the time we get to post mortem Mordy we can see the bad effects increasing. With every Dragon death things get worse, what is happening is we are now at a tipping point where the ‘get worse’ is total annihilation.

Lazarus was really Balthazar in disguise. We unmask him and he steals the machine Taimi was working on to use the elder dragon’s energy against each other. Taimi has a tracker on the machine, so we know where it is, the big volcano on the fire island chain. We go there in a submarine and discover the druids are angry with Balthazar and us disturbing their home. We convince them we mean no harm so they tell us Balthazar went into the volcano and give us magic fire protection to follow. We find Balthazar has the machine set up right next to Primordus and uses it to try to steal the elder dragons energy for himself. We the hero and Taimi think this could destroy the world so we smash the machine with him in it. We stop his plan, but he vanishes before we do anything else to him. Destroying the machine also put Jormag and Primordus into hibernation.

I doubt DM surfaced subsequent to us going to EB. When was Zinn around? I get the feeling he was contemporaneous with Oola, so quite some time ago. And per his voice recordings, he’s the reason the DM cavern is terraformed. (Per the Druids, not so much. But either way, it’s an established ecology that has been there a lot longer than the past year or less).

I don’t know the average lifespan of an Asura, but… Zinn (and M.O.X., and Z.O.X. etc.) are all at least 250 years old; they existed in GW1.

They don’t live that long, Zinn is long gone. Asure live just a bit longer than humans – like 5 – 10% longer.

What vine? and who’s speculating that?
first time I heard we and grenth were distracted from balthazar by a vine.. when was grenth next to us, when was there a vine.. what are you even on?

The vine the druid uses to pull the Asura up the hill at the beginning of the map. Likely missed the connection, so OP probably assumed Melandru did it.

(The wild card is what we experienced in the instance. If it wasn’t just the destroyers near us who died, but all destroyers, everywhere? And the same thing happened to the icebrood? There might suddenly be a lot of free real estate up north.)

I’m actually a bit curious about this:

Why did those destroyers suddenly die? Both mordrem and risen have remained after the deaths of their Elder Dragons, one being the death via weakness like Primordus and Jormag was being threatened by, and Primordus was only paralyzed at the time of all those destroyers’ deaths.

That would beg the question of why. Why would minions go inactive when their dragon is merely asleep but stay active when said dragon is dead?

Nothing actually has told us that their minions went inactive when the Elder Dragons slept. It could have been a centuries long war of attrition against them every time, until only a single champion lying in wait (their herald like the Great Destroyer) remained.

The Eye of the North manual even mentions destroyers as being a very real and current threat in the Depths, even before the Great Destroyer rose with an army in masse. So for all we know, those herald champions never did hibernate too (except Drakkar, being encased in ice and all) but simply waited patiently, acting only enough to not draw attention.

I am curious about this as well. I can posit a theory that the method of this particular forced hibernation (or whatever we are going to call it) by using Omadd’s machine with a god inside was similar in effect to the natural cycle ending, but the method itself being so unorthodox that there were some anomalies. In this case the anomalies being the destroyers going inactive where in the natural cycle perhaps they do not. That would need something in game to give this theory any weight though, and there is as of yet none.

Or maybe this is only the nature of this Humans in Guild Wars. Running away when their friends need them. I mean pulling a Logan would be no surprise to me. But what really makes me angry. She attacks the Commander for not inviting her. But then by the first sign of danger runs away. AND THE COMMANDER JUST TAKES IT! If we stay such a beta character I will give the future LW episodes the middle finger! I want my character to talk back to such kittened up behavior!

I’m pretty sure that was “affectionate teasing”, as in, “yo, I know you want me here, but I feel a little sad that you didn’t actually visit to ask me, hmmmm?”

It’s said in a way that fits well with the character — consider her behaviour around the interrogations at the party in LS2, that sort of thing. It’s the way she would gentle chide someone she likes, because they did something pretty minor but still a bit sad.

Definitely this. It is made obvious by the commander’s reaction. Just a light hearted back and forth between two people that haven’t seen each other in awhile. Kind of like when people downplay important things for humor. “Long time no see! What have you been up to?” “Oh, not much, just keeping busy since I got back from the first manned Mars mission.”

They clearly were not even remotely upset with each other. I fear for basic human communication if that many people can’t understand this.

Zhaitan's Weakness

in Living World

Moonyeti.3296

Retroactively looking for Zhaitan’s “weakness” is futile IMO because the whole concept was one of HoT’s worst kitten pulls, overshadowed only by Mordremoth’s weakness being one of its own domains. That’s like saying we can kill Jormag by throwing snowballs at it, or Primordus by holding a lit match to its tail.

I know the vanilla story gets flak here, but IMO it beats the pants off anything that came afterwards in terms of actually feeling like a massive concerted effort instead of “go wherever and do whatever some gasbag brat who singlehandedly knows everything and has absolutely unlimited resources and contacts tells you to”. Zhaitan didn’t have a single simplistic killswitch, defeating it required a multi-pronged approach of tackling its supply of corpses and magic, its eyes and mouth, and the corrupted Source of Orr, and that was information from multiple sources that we actively participated in acquiring.

Yes! For all of it’s faults, the personal story got this right – the campaign against Zhaitan felt like a campaign. There was build up, multiple fronts of attack, and for all the flak it got, I like that we killed him with an airship instead of walking up to him to give him a beatdown sword and board style, as it felt like the final push of an army, not a handful of dudes. (Yeah, I know there were only a handful of dudes on the airship, butI could easily imagine the presence of more on the ship, or on other nearby ships helping)

The base model of the Tamini is a horse, right?
Remove the upper part of it and re-work it to an actual horse part.

Can’t be that hard really.
And as for the ‘’armor, clothes’’ part as you said, I’m pretty sure they created the base model of the Tamini, without the armor and clothes, surely it can be easily removed.

Of course it’s a computer made 3D concept, not an actual skin or bone constructed… why would you even think games have to skin animals and use their bones for the actual GAME 3D model?! lmao,
But oh well, I don’t really want to start a flame war between your wall of texts.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic or not, but if not- ‘skin’ and ‘bones’ are actual terms for the visible surface of a 3D model and the animation framework for the 3D model, respectively.

I suspect Mr. E was watching out for Balthazar making an attempt at the Elder Dragons’ Magic and Balthazar didn’t want to tip him off out of fear that he would interfere with his plans.

I also suspect Melandru and Lyssa are in on this due to a vine capturing the guy with the tracker to Taimi’s device and Balthazar having Lyssa’s mirror.

As for where those two are hiding:

1. Melandru is likely posing as the Avatar of the Pale Tree and trying to throw the Sylvari(which she connected to her Realm of the Gods AKA the Dream) at the Elder Dragons in order to gain the Dragons’ Magic. Her attempts to keep Scarlet and us from The All is due to her not wanting anyone to interfere with the Gods’ plan to steal the Elder Dragons’ Magic due to morals.

2. Lyssa’s location is hard to decipher yet most fans assume she’s Jenna and Anise.

My take on the vine was that was the Druid, not Melandru. You follow the Druid’s voice to find him and when you do that’s when the Druid basically tells you to now GTFO or else.

I don’t see it as unhealthy from your example. I see it as both parties expressing their viewpoints in a positive way. Kas feels she was sidelined, and raises her concerns calmly. Jory rationally counters with the fact that she (Kas) has a point, but this was an exceptionally unique case (leaving with Laz without conferring with Kas first). Both are correct. Jory wasn’t just dismissing Kas at all, she was just showing the other side of the coin.

Now the other problem is that since they both have limited screen time, and their relationship is a big part of their character arcs, that means the relationship stuff always happens in the thick of things. The effect of this for the players is to leave us with an impression of an unhealthy relationship. Anyone more focused on domestic disputes than these crazy world changing events going on in their immediate vicinity will come across as having unhealthy priorities. I don’t believe that is the intention, but it certainly is the result at times.

Kasmeer Meade is my favorite character. I’m rooting for her to ascend back to nobility and marry her love. It’s disappointing to keep having her have confidence problems.

Caithe runs a close second.

In regards to Kas, I am guessing you are happy with her name plate change in Ep 5

So why did "Lazarus" help us protect Aurene?

His plan was foiled for now, but since he just disappeared into the mists, who knows what he might do next.

We never saw the body. Also, we know that Lyssa is also in on this, from the mirror sequence. So … it’s not impossible he just waypointed out, instead of death, IMO, and even if we did pop him off, we got five other gods with at least one “involved” in the situation actively…

Just providing alternative, but assuming Lyssa is in on it just because of a mirror might be preemptive. Balth’s says something along the lines of “They laughed at me” or something which implies that there may be some sort of god vs god conflict going on. For all we could know, Balth picked a fight with Lyssa, pillaged the mirror and left on this quest to get more power.

He passive-aggressively steals his girlfriend’s mirror when she dumps him then leaves the country. The god of war has fallen on hard times, indeed.

Could it be? (SPOILERS)

Dearest Balthazar,

I am writing in regards to recent events here on Tyria. As you may have heard, Zhaitan and Mordremoth have met an untimely demise at the hands of the local fauna. Kindly requesting your assistance in resolving this matter before the balance of energy becomes too unstable.

Yours,
Primordus

"Lazarus" and Bloodstone[picture&spoilers]

Actually, the gods did not create the bloodstones going by the lore found in Arah path 4. The Seers did. The gods collected many artefacts, including the bloodstone, but didn’t create them.

Interesting, they apparently changed the lore between GW1 and 2, maybe to flesh it out more. The GW1 wiki still states that the Six Gods created the bloodstone: https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Bloodstone

Yeah, the retcon is that the seers did it, but the seers are connected to the 6, so the old lore was right… from a certain point of view…

The eventual explanation will not be satisfying, as they forced everything to fit just so they could have a ‘shocking’ reveal. I still hope they fill in the explanations, as it will help. It feels too similar to season 1, where things only really made sense posthumously and by that time the bad impression was already made.

All I’ll say is that this picture sums up my feelings about Marjory and Kasmeer’s interactions pretty nicely. If only there was an impatient toe-tapping emote.

Or a check your watch emote

The map design is fantastic, I absolutely love the new mastery and hope to see it used more in the future. This is a great example of how the mastery system should add new things to the game.

The story presentation is also pretty good, and showing improvement. Not a long time just standing around listening to people if I don’t want to, but plenty of opportunities to do so if I want the added dialog.

The story itself still needs a lot of work in my opinion. Big reveal itself was ‘ok’ but the motivation is paper thin and feels forced and artificial.

Something that took me too long to figure out but made navigation much easier – the waypoints each are on one of the 3 map levels. So if you need something on that level, use the waypoint on that level, even if it is not ‘close’ (map wise) to where you want to go. It made my life a lot easier once I realised that.
